It always entertains me to run up to Banshee and hear him say "I know that gun" while I'm standing there with (usually) a bow, glaive and sword equipped xD.
Like I'm just picturing my guardians standing there looking down at the sword in their hands going "Yes grandad, this is a gun, can i have some upgrade modules please?"

Okay the last one was very angsty so this one will be fluffy! I don't really use this weapon, but how about a player/hunter who uses glaive getting some help from Erik in taking care of their kinsects! I feel like if I used glaive I'd get very attached to my kinsects and would want to take the best care of them possible! And who better to assist than resident biologist and bug aficionado, Erik! ~ woodworks
I don't really use this weapon either XD the only reason I would is to get attached to my insect pals. Hope you enjoy!
K/N = Kinsect's Name
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tiny Wings, Big Heart
You are a new user to the insect glaive and now the proud parent of a kinsect. But with anything new, you need some pointers. Who better to assist you than bug boy Erik?
Tumblr media
The setting sun painted the tents of camp in a warm orange hue, light catching on the canvas flaps and stirring shadows across the walkways. The air was still, except for the gentle fluttering sound of wings—a familiar, rhythmic hum that followed you everywhere these days.
Your kinsect—small, sleek, and an iridescent green—hovered loyally by your shoulder, chirping and trilling in its usual way. You’d given it a name, of course. K/N. And you were convinced it had a personality of its own. Playful. Fussy. Mischievous. It reminded you of a cat that could fly.
Today, K/N was twitching oddly mid-flight, tilting sideways like its wings weren’t syncing properly. You frowned.
“…That’s not normal, right?” you murmured, watching it spiral in a wobbly figure eight.
You bit your lip, heart tightening with guilt. Was it the dust from the Oilwell Basin? The frigid gusts from your last hunt in the canyons? Had you overworked it?
One name came to mind before you even realized it.
Erik.
Biologist. Monster expert. Resident insect whisperer.
And—though you’d never say it aloud—a walking heart hazard. With his soft voice, freckles that dusted across his cheekbones like stardust, and eyes that gleamed that light green shade when he was excited about his research… you may have spent more time watching him than you'd admit.
Totally for professional reasons. Of course.
With K/N buzzing uneasily by your ear, you squared your shoulders and headed toward the quiet side of camp, where Erik usually retreated after missions.
You found him sitting on a crate beneath one of the high rock outcroppings, hunched over a battered field journal. Just his usual half-undone shirt collar and windblown silver hair falling in wisps over his forehead. A container of sample vials sat beside him, glinting in the light.
His head tilted up slightly at your approach. You could tell he heard K/N first.
“You’re back early,” he said softly, closing the journal and looking at you—then your kinsect. “It’s flying oddly.”
Your heart jumped. “So I’m not imagining it.”
“No.” He rose fluidly, already moving closer. “Bring it here.”
You held your arm out and K/N landed with a tired little chirp. Erik’s hands were gentle, his touch light as he inspected the tiny wings and joints.
“It's not serious,” he murmured. “Slight joint stress, maybe from the last aerial maneuver you used. You’ve been vaulting a lot lately.”
You flushed a little. “You… noticed that?”
“I watch all of you in combat,” he replied matter-of-factly. “It’s my job.”
“Oh. Right.” You tried not to be disappointed that he wasn’t watching you specifically.
Erik glanced at you from the corner of his eye, and for a moment, you thought you caught a flicker of amusement in them. “I also... happen to know you name your kinsect. That’s not in my job description.”
Your mouth parted. “You heard me talking to K/N?”
He nodded. “Quite a lot, actually. You scold it like a pet, and then apologize immediately after.”
“Hey!” you laughed, embarrassed but smiling. “It has feelings!”
“I don’t disagree.” He turned back to K/N and gently stroked the shell of its thorax. “They’re incredibly sensitive creatures. Highly attuned to their hunters.”
You went quiet, watching his fingers trail along K/Ns wings with such care. He was so serious, so precise—and yet so… gentle. You couldn't help but watch him with the same kind of fondness you gave your kinsect.
“I guess I’m just nervous I’ll mess something up,” you admitted. “I’ve never used glaive before. But I love it now. And I love K/N. So, I just want to take the best care of it. Of all of my kinsects yet to come.”
Erik glanced up, his expression softening. “You haven’t messed anything up. You’ve bonded with it. That’s rarer than you think.”
He paused, then added, a little more quietly, “That kind of trust… it’s something you have to earn.”
Something about the way he said it made your chest ache.
You sat beside him on the crate, just close enough to feel the warmth of him. “Do you think... you could show me how to take better care of them? Maybe, like… maintenance tips?”
He turned to you, the faintest smile tugging at his lips. “You’re asking me to help you spend time with a creature you already care for deeply.”
“Yeah,” you replied, heart thudding. “I guess I’m asking you to help me take care of something I love.”
Erik blinked slowly, eyes searching your face.
And then he smiled—genuine, soft, like the first breath of warmth after a long storm.
“I’d like that.”
He reached into his bag and pulled out a tiny brush and a set of micro-tools.
“Let’s start with wing oiling,” he said. “And after that… I’ll show you how to read their body language.”
You beamed, feeling K/N buzz happily as if it could sense your mood.
Maybe the glaive wasn’t your original weapon, but it had brought you something unexpected: a kinsect companion that needed you… and an excuse to sit close to the kindest person in camp.
And maybe—just maybe—he was starting to need you too.

I think the purely in-game reading of gwyndolin betrays the out-of-game reading which is an obvious 'trap' situation, that is to say, a trans woman written by someone who either doesn't know what a trans woman is or has reasons to avoid the concept. Out of all the unreliable narrators of dark souls, miyazaki is but one of them.
see my previous post for why i don't agree with your interpretation of the "purely in-game reading"
i also really find this perspective quite shocking; what about Gwyndolin strikes you as insensitive or ignorant? just because she has an identity that isn't exactly yours? i feel like this is binarist at least... it's similar to how people say that GGACR's Brigitte and Testament were transmisogynist stereotypes and were corrected in Strive; that is the transmisogynist position...
also just look at how Dark Souls is written. virtually nothing in it is assumed from our world; everything that enters its cell of meaning is subjected to complex critical assessement. it is demanded of everything that it be fully explicable in terms of the world of Lordran and not in terms of earth. even the existence of a glaive, which we have in our world as a common weapon and would not startle any player more than a sword or shield, is rigorously explained as arising from Gwyn's knights' conflict with the Izalith demons, demanding special weapons that can stand up to large enemies. of course in this setting you won't just get a normal transgender woman with the same relationship to gender as us. the demand it makes of us is to interpret gender in light of Lordran's own system of meaning, and locate Gwyndolin within it.
the games have gender and hormones sliders ffs XD
because calling it a gender slider ASSUMED TOO MUCH! so in the next game they called it a HORMONE SLIDER!
no one was ever that careful with their game!!
by the way, on Miyazaki, let me defend him a little bit: i won't be able to find it too easily (translations kept getting made and hosted on some google doc that later disappeared) but there was an interview with him on some kind of gaming show that had twitch-like viewer comments that they'd respond to. the topic came up that everyone was saying who their waifu would be (and they all hade cute bynames for their favourites). Miyazaki acts embarassed: 'i didn't know i made this type of game...' then he's looking at the chat and he reads it out: 'otokonoko... otokonoko... who do they mean?' the interviewer explains that they mean Gwyndolin. he says: 'i don't understand, Gwyndolin is clearly male... he has a male voice actor...'
this line has fascinated me so much, for over ten years... look at it... he can't be an otokonoko, says Miyazaki. because he has a male voice. what did he MEAN!!!!!!!!!!
i've started to think that he was actually joking, like playing dumb. as if he didn't even know what an otokonoko was and thought they were pretty young girls :) i'm not sure... i would have to hear the tone of his delivery, etc... in effect learn Japanese (because i'll never trust someone else to tell me!)... maybe one day i'll understand. in any case, Miyazaki's views are probably strange and complicated. we do not know how we got Gwyndolin out of them; but we did, and that makes all the difference.

Same. I’ll have to play close attention when I play MonHun Wilds next year on how different the ecology of the monsters’ nest compared to the rest of the ‘stage’ XD
We don’t truly know much about elder dragons so, at the very least, we can play with it hahahaha
Yeeessss. It’s like kids going ‘when I grow up, Imma be like dad’ and grow up sharing similar taste, clothing or even just hairstyle.
Absolutely. Desmond thinks he’s just one of the ‘dudes’ (dudes here being normal dragons) because he has seen bigger and more furious looking dragons.
He doesn’t think about how his size makes him faster than most of those ‘bigger’ dragons and his looks counts as too eerie and bordering on horror and fear.
His children prefers to be called little silent deaths than their actual dragon names (or worse, mutated [whatever dragon name humans call them]). They take pride in being remembered as their papa’s children.
Oh yes. Desmond would definitely have almost perfect memories when it concerned his children. He cared and nurtured them until they decided to do something they wanted. He even keeps track of when his children last visited him because they were more or less creatures of habit.
…. I mean
If you want to screw up with HTTYD’s world… Desmond could have brought ‘baby’ Qurio with him when he was transferred as a baby Malzeno. They grew up with him AND…
The Qurio has a more symbiotic relationship with Desmond in this one because they had to adapt to a foreign world.
Not only that…
These Qurios could be the reason why Desmond’s children grew up to be more like him!
Been thinking about a “Des getting yeeted into another world as an animal” crossover that I don’t thinks been done yet. How to train your dragon (the movie/tv series not the book for this time) and he’s a dragon, but with a twist: he isn’t one from the series, he’s a dragon from an entirely different world: monster hunter. He has become a malzeno (can’t remember if it’s spelled right , also I’m thinking of the vampire one not primordial but it rly doesn’t matter much) hope u feel better soon!
Desmond would have a lot on his plate.
For one, he would have to get use to being a dragon.
Another would be trying to get used to his new body while being in a world he has no prior knowledge of.
But hey…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least he looks cool
Also, just imagine Desmond being a baby Malzeno first and having to grow up trying to survive both dragons that want to eat him and humans who want to kill him.
Tumblr media
It’s not like every human is like Hiccup or the Berkian tribe.
By the time he had become an adult dragon, he would have garnered the same dread and fear that a Malzeno had in its natural habitat.
He’s known as the guardian dragon, attacking any and everything that dares to attack him and his kin. Dragons themselves either bow to him or run away from him.
Hatchlings and juvenile dragons tend to follow him around because they know he will protect them and teach them how to hunt for food.
Desmond didn’t really planned any of these.
At first, he was just trying to survive.
Then he saved a baby dragon that had fallen behind and it followed him after it was fully healed.
From there…
Desmond sorta maybe got his own Brotherhood.
A dragon Brotherhood.

Big Berserker lady, bad puns and a lot of Blast." COLORED (MHW)
featuring my buff "Half-Giant" lady Beth Ravencoft and some random hunter fellow.
Got around doing my little "MHWilds character creation-inspired update thing for Beth in MHRise as well, she came out pretty great in this game as well(I do wish the glowing Halloween eyes were here too tho XD )
Gonna be honest, this might upset a few of the more odd MH tribalists, but I kinda prefer Rise overall, it's mostly the movement and combat really, it's frenetic DMC-like energy really speaks to my crackhead playstyle XD
I do hope the DualBlades Areal style does return in Wilds(i know it wasnt introduced in Rise but you get what I mean), loved hanging with the Glaive fellas in Rise...hope they get an areal style as well since apparently they work differently ingame from what Ive seen.

Good to see a fellow monster hunter world and iceborne player. What weapon do you main?( Personally I like the duel blades)
Insect glaive. Though duel blades are my secondary, I switch once in awhile lol. I've tried the bigger weapons but they just don't do it for me. Sure they do more damage but I feel slow, like I'm lumbering around trying to get a hit on the monsters and just end up failing my charged attacks XD My playing style is more speedy and I like the aerial combos of the glaive

“Is there a problem?”
With a start, Shard looked up from the sword in his hands. It was a beautiful weapon, the hilt fashioned to look like a dragon curled around it, its outspread wings forming the crosspiece. The blade was long and sharp, glistening in the sunlight. But...his hands felt dirty just touching it.
“Why do I need sword lessons?” he asked in a small voice.
Glaive raised an unimpressed eyebrow, looking him up and down pointedly. “Because you look like you barely know which end to hold. You said you were raised by a priest?”
Shard stiffened. “What of it?”
“I highly doubt your priest spent much time teaching you the art of war,” Glaive said dryly. “Therefore—lessons.”
“War?” Shard's voice came out in a high squeak. He hastily cleared his throat. “But...I thought we were supposed to be ambassadors! Aren't we supposed to prevent war from breaking out?”
Glaive let out a mirthless laugh as he turned to pick up his own sword from where it lay on the table behind him. The scar on the side of his face stood out in sharp relief, starting at his jawline and just tweaking the corner of his eye before disappearing into his hair. “What makes you think we're always successful?”
The last shred of hope bled out of him, and Shard's heart fluttered down to his toes, deflated. There was no getting out of this. No sitting on the sidelines. No running away. His fingers curled around the hilt, and he almost thought he could feel blood on his palms again. He could almost hear the screams.
“I don't want to kill anyone,” he whispered.
“Good.”
When Shard dragged his gaze upward again, he found Glaive watching him keenly. His eyes, usually half-lidded and almost bored, remained fixed on Shard's face, as if he could read more than the mere words Shard spoke.
“All the more reason to learn how to fight,” Glaive said. “I would be more reluctant to teach you if you'd come here eager for bloodshed. That's not what we're here for. We are here to protect. To negotiate. Even if sometimes we must negotiate with steel rather than words.
“Be slow to draw your sword,” he continued with a curt nod. “But do not leave it in its sheath when there are lives it could save.”
Shard felt his eyes drawn to the glistening blade once more. For a moment, he almost thought he saw bodies reflected in the metal. Bloody bodies littering the hillside, eyes staring back at him in horror....
He swallowed hard. “But what if...what if I lose control? What if I can't stop myself?”
He looked up at Glaive, and he thought the older man's eyes softened slightly, like he knew the fear that clenched Shard's heart. “Control is one of the things I will teach you, Shard. Don't think you're the first man to walk this path.”
For the first time, Shard realized he had no idea how old Glaive was. In that moment, he seemed as old as the mountains, as old as the trees. Had he stood in Shard's shoes, once upon a time? Did he know this heavy weight?
“Fear not,” Glaive murmured. “I will ensure that you do not set foot on the battlefield again until you know how to fight...and how to put away your sword.”
Shard found himself straightening, his head lifting to meet Glaive's gaze. Perhaps there was still hope.
The Chesterton Challenge: Day 21
Welcome to Day 21 of the Chesterton Challenge! Already the end of our third week, if you can believe it! Make sure to explore the creations linked in the notes of yesterday’s post.
Today’s Optional Prompt is: War
Because Chesterton wrote a lot about war, whether it was WWI, the Battle of Lepanto, the war fought by King Alfred, or the war fought over Notting Hill in the far-future year of 1984. The concept offers plenty of potential for creative pursuits--write about a fantastical war, or about a simple war of ideas, war with yourself about what to create--however you want to interpret it!
Whatever you create, make sure to show us or tell us about it by reblogging or replying to this post. (Don’t forget: anyone is allowed to join in the fun at any point during the Challenge.)
Now go forth and create!

OC Bio: Rudie-7.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhhh, the noble art of Gambit. One of those game modes i'll fixate on for a day or two at a time then not play for weeks. But when i fixate, i bring out Rudie. Inspired at first by me soaring through the air and getting a quad-kill as an invader mid-glide while eating a burger, Rudie's grown into her spot in my OC line up as "The chill one". She's not an ex-Warlord-turned-Iron Lord like Jackson, a fanatical befriender like Aoife, an archaeologist-slash-hive-fetishist like Lissan. Rudie's just a chill dude. A laid-back gal. An alright fella. And an absolute fucking mote fiend :P
His short deets:
Name: Rudie-7
Nickname(s):
Pronouns: He/him/she/her.
Ghost's name: Sparko.
Ghost's pronouns: Zey/zem.
First resurrected: Just after the Great Ahamkara Hunt.
Her long deets.
Not long after the conclusion of the Great Ahamkara Hunt, Rudie trudged into the Last City from the a village[1] deep in the wilds and immediately became aware of the atmosphere swallowing his fellow Guardians. Guilt over the Hunt was rife, the mood near-universally dour and depressive, with nothing to really allay it. And that gave her an idea. Back in her old village, Rudie had helped run a public house for some time. He got nothing out of it loot-wise, but being able to help people feel better tickled a certain itch in her head. After a while in the Last City's dour enviroment, all he thought was: "How hard can it be?" As it turns out, not particularly. Staking her claim on a hall on the outskirts of the City, left half-collapsed and abandoned after the Battle of Six Fronts, Rudie set about converting it into his own little speakeasy. She hadn't legally acquired the building, and quite frankly he didn't care to. She'd noticed pretty swiftly how little the Vanguard & other City leadership were doing for the Guardians traumatised by the Hunt, and that lack of care got them in Rudie's bad books pretty quickly. So if they weren't going to do anything, she would. It took her a few months to finish repairing the hall, putting out feelers for supplies and acquiring security systems, but eventually her speakeasy opened its doors, catering exclusively to Guardians. For being a fairly remote illicit establishment the place did rather well for itself, quickly turning a profit and garnering a whole host of regulars who wanted to escape life for a while. Rudie ran his bar singlehandedly for years acting as both bartender and bouncer, him & her ditz of a Ghost becoming somewhat well-known in the Last City's underworld. Not the most glamourous of roles for a Guardian, but she was happy with it. He never had much of a desire to leave, why do that when he could help people? He ran his bar (which she never ended up naming, most just referred to it as "Rudie's Place") with minimal interference all the way up until the Red War. He abandoned the place reluctantly, heading out of the city in a refugee caravan. She tried to keep up her role as bartender while on the road, "sourcing" several different varieties of intoxicant for both recreational & medicinal usage. After laying low throughout the war, Rudie returned to her old haunt, thankfully out of the way enough to not get touched by the Red Legion's bombardments, and carried on business as usual. He continued quite happily for about a year, until a certain meretricious rogue showed up in the Last City touting a new scheme that caught Rudie's attention...
FOOTNOTIES:
[1] Not the same village as Torre, for clarity. Ooooooooookay then. God this one took a while. I blame Iron Banner restarting my love of Crucible & me subsequently becoming a PvP glaive main(ish). Seriously those things are so much fun with Astrocyte. That aside, i did have to remake a lot of this on the fly, Rudie's one i only wrote pretty fragmentally before now. Happy to get this done, hoping having her on my mind makes me wanna play gambit more xD ^^ Thanks for reading <3 -'Stag

I was curious, how did you come up with "Quicksilver Dancers" for Prima and Prompto's ship name? And how has Prima herself changed, design or story wise, from when you first created her compared to now?
For Penna and Prompto, their ship name I chose was "Guns n' Potions" XD
hi hi! thank you for the ask, friend! 💖 guns n' potions is great -- sounds like a video game title, which also goes wonderfully with prompto's being good at games. 🙂‍↕️
when i first came up with primam and her twin brother, tandem, the thing i wanted for them was "the first (primam) dance (chorus)", and "the last (tandem) dance".
so with prompto's name being a bastardized version of "quicksilver", they become "quicksilver dancers".
fun fact: primam doesn't really dance
prim has gone through...a design. but her current default design has been largely the same since the first redesign when i asked friends and the initial response from one of them was "not nomura enough" -- like okay, i can fix that.
Tumblr media
initially, her hair was going to be more on the gray-silvery side, but i liked the way white looked better. the skintone represented here was never meant to be so light, but i committed to the color i chose because i actually didn't have that many markers to use back in 2017.
Tumblr media
the 2018 redesign above, and the 2021 spread below.
Tumblr media
as far as her story goes, she and her brother have always been a combative unit together. they were initially kingsglaive, but the more i got into the lore, the more pissed off i got about the game's lack of or just information being in generally inaccessible locations outside the game.
so she got turned into a noble as well as several of my other kingsglaive characters. from there, i expanded upon the royal council and the noble families in general. house chorus being the arm of the king: "we are the blade ever pointed at the enemy when the king can no longer fight himself."
she was meant to have been more capable with other weapons, but it's really just the mace, and if worse comes to worst, daggers. she's not a slouch when it comes to other weapons, she's just better at magic. her brother is the weapons expert compared to her.
anyway...also being arm of the king, "ever within arm's length", she and her brother were assigned to go with noctis to public education to keep them within that role. similar to ignis being the chaperone and the one who is conditioned and groomed to be noctis' advisor. originally, they just went to the same school, but learning more about the glaive, i went, "ah, this doesn't work."

Alrighty—time to list all of my ROTTMNT OCs :D
(This is mainly just for myself but y’know xD)
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
~Turtle/Hamato OCs~
Beatrix ‘Bea’ (posted) - second youngest, wood turtle, uses kamas, shadow ninpō (kinda like Mac’s powers in LMK),
Cynthia ‘Cyn’ (posted) - second eldest, leatherback sea turtle, uses a soshiki axe, short version of the explanation is ninpō: force fields,
Giovanni ‘Geo’ (posted) - Mikey’s twin, eastern mud turtle, (jumonji) yari, super speed + lightning ninpō,
Artemisia ‘Art/Artie’ (not posted yet) - eldest, humanoid [experiment] (pretty much just made entirely by Draxum w/ some of Splinters DNA), uses a naginata, metal bending ninpō (think of Toph from ATLA), has four arms, blue hair and has to put up with too much crap [/hj],
Andrea ‘Andy’ (posted) - Leo and Don’s triplet (mainly second youngest), map turtle, uses a glaive, clairvoyance ninpō (future sight and seeing people minds/memories and all that), blind
(^ both are (supposed to be) yellow)
Kaida ‘Kai’ (posted) - second youngest, diamondback terrapin, uses a kanabō, gravity manipulation or shapeshifting (like Nimona and Maui) I haven’t decided yet, has a prosthetic arm,
Levina ‘Lev/Viney’ (posted) - youngest-second youngest (same age as Mikey), painted wood turtle, uses kunais (that are chained/roped together), her ninpō is being able to bring her drawings to life (whether they be animate or not) with her weapon which can turn into a pen, pencil, or paintbrush (eventually she learns to use her ninpō without her weapon),
With these guys, they all have their own universes but sometimes two or so of them are in the same universe. But they all rotate around in my brain about who I’m fixated on so expect many different drawing of all of ‘em lmao-
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
~Others~
Adela ‘Adel’ (not posted yet) - 15-16, human (yokai? Haven’t decided yet-), has known the turtles as long as April, homeschooled,

Anika (note posted yet) - 15-16, sugar glider mutant, lives with Ginger and her family, also goes to the same high school as April, works at Run of the Mill as a waitress,
Cadell ‘Dell’ (haven’t really done much with her just yet lol-) - around 45, ghost, kind of a mother figure to the turtles lol, they go on silly adventures together,
(I will add to this if I make more prominent OCs that I’m planning on sharing or want to put more about the ones on here)
I have too many characters—

heya, I’m a big fan of your prince of death story! I’ve made a few comments under the guest name “Myself” (probably more memorable as the guy who never shuts the fuck up about wholesome Vyke and Lansseax content, sorry about that), But then I remembered I had a Tumblr I had only used once before! If it’s okay, I have a few questions about Vyke and Lansseax’s relationship, and their history:
You’ve already explained to me in a comment reply how they met, but how did they become a couple, and who initiated it? (I’d personally imagine Lansseax, Vyke doesn’t seem like he’d be the forward type. I also imagine Lansseax made a big show of it to embarrass Vyke)
2. when all hell isn’t breaking loose, how do they normally spend time together? Or is Vyke the “brooding silent type who is begrudgingly hugged by his much taller girlfriend in public”
3. does Lansseax ever force Vyke to go flying with her? I’d imagine that would be terrifying weather or not he’s afraid of heights (although *I* am afraid of heights, so that may be a bit of a projection)
4. (Based on a funny mental image I had at one point) Being a dragon, was Lansseax ever confused about alcohol, so Vyke, humoring her, decided to take her to a bar, but then he had to deal with an absolutely trashed dragon for the next few hours?
5. despite Vyke having the personality of a homeless cat, his wife and best friend are social butterflies. Do either of them ever drag Vyke to social outings and he ends up being the guy just awkwardly standing there doing nothing?
6. Not really about Vyke and Lansseax per se, but it is by extension I guess: what’s Vykes dynamic with Fortisax? I imagine they would at they very least be friends, because in his boss fight Vyke uses Fortisax’s Lightning spear but not Lanssex’s glaive
7. how does the rest of the dragon cult view their relationship? Do people just think “lucky bastard” about Vyke, do some people think that while others think Vyke is just trying to gain favor in the cult?
8. how would Lansseax react to someone hitting on Vyke? Would she be upset or just find it funny?
9. has Vyke ever asked “would you still love me if I was a Wyrm”, )referring to the magma worm) as a joke? I definitely would, bad puns are the best type of humor
Absolutely love Prince of Death, it’s right up there with Incidence (a Deltarune story by Jungle Dragon) with being my favorite. Thank you for your time and sorry to bother you with more questions about Vyke and Lansseax XD
Hi, thanks for the ask!
Lansseax: Vyke, what was it your people call that thing you do? With the rings? Vyke: ... What? Lansseax: You know, the mammal pair-bonding ritual. Vyke: You mean marriage? Lansseax: Yes, that. Lansseax: Do you want to get married? Vyke's brain: sdfghjkjbvvvjd;ss Vyke: Sure.
In all seriousness, Vyke is a very blunt and practical guy, and Lansseax is pretty direct in going after what she wants. Once they started making a point to spend time together and realized that they wanted to continue doing so, neither of them saw any reason not to make things official.
Vyke generally doesn't get involved with Lansseax's social life. But she's constantly trying out new hobbies, and he likes hanging around and asking the occasional question while she's working on her current project. They've settled into a comfortable compromise where Lansseax doesn't try to make Vyke pretend to be social, and he finds other ways to spend quality time with her.
In this continuity, Lansseax cannot change forms at will. When she turned human, that was permanent. If she somehow turned back into a dragon, that would be permanent. Her Crucible wings allow for something closer to old-school Superman's "leap tall buildings in a single bound" than to true flight. I suppose Vyke could theoretically hold onto her while she goes springing across the rooftops, but the danger of getting dropped would be very real, and Vyke's dignity wouldn't allow for it anyway.
Lansseax actually has a pretty high tolerance for alcohol, being nearly seven feet tall. She was the one carrying Vyke home after their first time at a bar together -- he quickly learned not to try to keep up with her drinking.
Vyke is obligated to go to the occasional Cult celebration, but he never stays too long. Godwyn and Lansseax have both learned that he'll just stand in a corner if he's forced into social events -- if one wants quality time with Vyke, it's best done one-on-one.
Out of all their sister's knights, Fortissax tolerated Vyke the most. Unlike Lansseax, Forti was there for Godwyn, and didn't care for humans as a rule. But Vyke is a very dragonish human, and he's not flakey and talkative like most humans, and he didn't try to force a friendship with Fortissax (the worst possible thing one could do). They eventually warmed up to him a bit, to the point where they could sit quietly and brood together, or have the odd sparring match.
Vyke and Lansseax are an institution. Their relationship predates the Dragon Cult, and Vyke was technically the first member. The other knights see Lansseax more as a mother figure (or more rarely, an object of courtly love), and Vyke as something between a godfather and an older brother.
You know, I never considered Vyke having other suitors. But following the second war against the dragons, he would have been considered quite the catch -- the slayer of Gransax, and a close friend of Crown Prince Godwyn. He probably had a small horde of suitors chasing after him for a bit. Lansseax would have bristled at first. But Vyke is like a solitary bird of prey that mates for life and would probably just curl up and die if something ever happened to his One Person. Half the time he wouldn't even notice if someone else was flirting with him, and when he finally picked up on it he'd just be mildly bemused. Nowadays Lansseax would just find it funny.
