Getafix is so underrated as a fantasy sorcerour.

There are two theories for why the franchise isn’t much popular in the US the way it got in other countries: one is that the anacronic jokes regarding views of italians (Romans), Spaniards, Irish, Norse (Vikings), English and Scots (Britons), and in one story a racist joke with a black character, while more naturalized in Europe, would stir more controversy in America.

And the other is that there are some paralells between the Romans trying to conquer Asterix’s village and the US government desire to control the western world, wich is a critic that to this day is unconfortable for most US comic readers and audiences who mostly receive the narrative of being the “world’s heros”.

Maybe both theories hold true, maybe both are wrong, we don’t know for sure.

Also: the franchise has a theme park in Paris called Parc Asterix.

The idea was inspired by the Disney Theme Parks, and is the second biggest theme park of France, getting behind only Disneyland Paris.

So @ariel-seagull-wings reccomended four movies,and I knew instantly I wanted to watch Allegro Non Troppo .....Problem is I couldnt find the film either completed or with subtitles .So I went with my second choice :!2 Tasks of Asterix

So ASterix is one of those franchises adored all over the world......Except in America ,and I'm an American .For some reason it just never has become a big deal over here ,and while I have seen people talk about it ,I have had no personal experience with Asterix .....And thats why I chose it,I wanted to know why Asterix is so beloved

Oh and I watched the English dub cause it was on Amazon

So the plot of this 1976 film is simple ,a bunch of Gauls are giving the Romans trouble ,so the Romans theorize the Gauls might be Gods .Julius Ceasar says they must prove it ,by having the warriors Asterix and OBelix accomplish 12 impossible tasks akin to those Hercules did

...Well I enjoyed this a LOT . I think if like me ,your not familiar with this franchise its a good watch.It lays out everything you need to know: The Gauls have a potion that makes them invincible ,Asterix is the best warrior,Obelix is his buddy who fell into the potion as a baby and Julius Ceasar is our bad guy ,this is all said in the opening scene and then the film can focus on the humor ,and I gotta say the film does make me wanna check out more Asterix stuff

The whole film gave me a Looney Tunes vibe,with Asterix remindindg me of a less sassy less intentionally antagonistic bugs Bunny and with a dose of Popeye

The animation is good,its a lil rough but I think the film looks very good

For a 70's Dub the voiceacting is pretty darn good ,and I think the performances of Sean Barrett (Who I know as the voices of The Dying Master in Dark Crystal and Tik Tok in Return to Oz ) as Asterix and Michael Kilgariff as Obelix (Who I know for voicing the General in Dark Chrystal and for a few appearences in Doctor Who most notably as the Robot in Tom Bakers first story Robot ) are reallly spot on,I really liked their performances

Julius Ceasar was a fun villain ,the side characters were enjoyable (My fave being Getafix ) ,theres some metajoke I loved ,I like the diffrent tasks ,but by far the funniest scene for me was their most difficult task,a task that drives people mad.....Getting a permit .Its a whole sequence of these warriors dealing with beaurocracy ,it had me in stitches

Overall this was a very good time so highly reccomendedc

You ever think about how like, asterix and obelix will just sleep wherever the fuck they want? Just out in the open? Just plop themselves down when they’re tired and sleep? They literally fell asleep in a Roman camp because it was too dark to tell and they didn’t give a shit Nobody is keeping watch, they don’t prepare for wild animals or bandits or anything they just go “well time to sleep” and go to sleep. Sure they Prefer a bed if they can get one but it really doesn’t seem to bother them much at all to sleep on the ground Also that time obelix fell asleep in a tree while they were waiting to catch someone. Legit just lying there on a branch 10 feet off the ground and took a nap. Could’ve fallen off and nobody would’ve been able to help him but he didn’t give a shit, it was late and he was sleepy Also they don’t even have blankets or pillows or anything half the time! And asterix wears a sleeveless tunic while Obelix is shirtless! These two just don’t get cold at all huh, just sleep when it gets dark right there under the stars on the dirt To top off how little they care about where they sleep, one of the tasks in 12 tasks was to spend the night on a haunted battlegrounds that scares people so badly they die and they just do it. Sure obelix woke up for a bit but they were fairly well rested by the end. AND it had just been raining. They’re already soaked through, the ground is probably muddy as heck and asterix just goes “oh? Sleep here on this haunted plains? Sounds good to me I’m tired!” Literally no shits, just fuckin went to bed and then yelled at some ghosts for being loud

hello ⚘️ this anon is not about ceasar 💓 I want know is that true that uderzo and Goscinny they didn't like asterix cleopatra comic and they hated asterix and 12 tasks because its weird they wrote comic than they hated . peace ⚘️

I’ve never heard of such things.

What I know, for Astérix and Cleopatra, is that Uderzo and Goscinny both had the idea to make this comic after the two of them watched Mankiewicz’s Cleopatra in 1963 in theaters. You can see how the cover from the comic and the movie poster are very similar, and it’s not only the cover. The book itself is very largely an extended parody of the movie, so I think both authors had a lot of fun making this comic. However, I know that Uderzo disliked the movie Astérix & Obélix : Mission Cleopatra. Ironically enough, this movie was the one the fans loved the most and the other live-action Astérix movies flopped after Mission Cleopatra.

As for the Twelve Tasks of Astérix, I’ve never heard of Goscinny and Uderzo disliking the movie. It would be strange considering the fact they both wanted this movie and they both worked for it. They were so keen on having Astérix on screen and they weren’t 100% convinced by the first two animated movie so they decided to work on The Twelve Tasks. They were both behind the writing and the realization of the movie, and they pretty much gave everything they had for it was their dream and I think they were happy with the result. They can be proud and happy, this movie is a true classic for Astérix fans and, I believe, the best Astérix animated movie (in 2D).

That’s why I believe Goscinny and Uderzo had no dislike for Astérix and Cleopatra, and The Twelve Tasks of Astérix. If someone knows something I don’t, if I’m mistaken, they’re free to add their own comment to this post!

I thought Caius Tiddlus from The 12 Tasks of Asterix and Droopy from Tex Avery's cartoons were very similar, they both speak in monotone and seem to be teleporting around.
