Ooh what about "You needed a ride home so I gave you one, but now we're stuck in traffic with nothing to do but talk" for lighting sparks! I'm so so so excited for literally everything you write for it ahhhh
I neglected this for far too long. So please be kind if it’s a little iffy.
Light the Sparks Masterlist
~~~~~
Elide stood just inside the doorway as she waited for Lorcan to bring the car around. He told her it was a big black 4WD and that he’d only be a few minutes. Elide tapped her foot nervously, she had asked him again if he didn’t mind dropping her off telling him she was fine to get the bus. But when they had got to the door the rain showed no sign of letting up and Lorcan had insisted. Putting people out of their way was not Elide’s favourite thing to do.
A big black car pulled up and Elide darted out into the rain, biting back a squeal as the thick heavy raindrops landed on the back of her neck. As she got closer she saw Lorcan reach over and open the door for her. It took her a moment to literally pull herself up into the absolute tank of a car, she even lost her balance for a moment but managed to keep the transition smooth.
“What’s your address?” Lorcan asked.
Elide was wiping at the wet hair that was sticking to her forehead as she quickly told him. He put the address into the screen on the dash and they both waited for an awkward moment as the GPS calculated the route, but then before too long Lorcan was pulling out onto the road.
For a few long moments neither of them said anything, just the sounds of the moving car and the rain were the soundtrack for their drive.
Elide cleared her throat. “So, you go to that place often?”
“No, that was the first time actually,” Lorcan said. “It was Fenrys’ idea.”
“I don’t mind it, drinks are a bit expensive but they taste good,” Elide said.
“Yeah, the whiskey was good,” Lorcan agreed.
Then there was the silence again, Elide wasn’t going to let it last, so she asked,
“How long have you been a firefighter?”
“I started my training straight out of school,” Lorcan answered.
Elide was preparing herself to ask another question but the Lorcan surprised her by asking one instead.
“I know you work at the school, do you teach?”
“No, I’m a teacher's aide,” Elide explained. “Aelin got me the job.”
At the mention of Aelin’s name she saw Lorcan’s lips tightened almost imperceptibly. This animosity between them was a mystery to Elide, especially where it had started. It would be rude for Elide to ask directly, but she couldn’t deny she was curious. Really, she found their interactions amusing. Again silence fell between them, Elide was wracking her brain for something else to ask when they turned another corner and she groaned. In front of them was a very long line of cars. Without traffic she would be home in 5 minutes, but with this, who knew.
“I’m so sorry,” Elide said.
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Lorcan muttered.
“I already ended your night early, now I’ve got you stuck in traffic. I feel pretty terrible about it,” Elide admitted.
Lorcan lent back as they moved at a snail's pace. “I was done at the bar, and I think I would have ruined the night for the rest of them after your quick save there.”
Elide laughed a bit nervously, “I hope you didn’t mind. I didn’t think too hard and I thought that might be the quickest way to deter someone.”
Elide watched his face and she saw the small hint of a smile ghost his lips.
“You did good. Thanks.”
Elide tried to keep in her laughter as she remembered what the woman had insinuated, but she couldn’t help it. “Aelin really went there, huh?”
Lorcan didn’t say anything and Elide swallowed the laughter that threatened to bubble out of her again. She should cut him a break, she didn’t want to increase his broodiness, and he was doing her a favour afterall. They crept forward a little closer, silence filling the car.
“Music?” Elide suggested casually.
Lorcan nodded and pushed a button on his steering wheel and the radio turned on. A pop song played that Elide didn’t know, starting from half way through. She looked out the front windscreen, the rain pelted down and the wipers flicked up periodically to sweep it away, the lights of the cars around them glowing.
Ads played then another song started, this one Elide knew.
I would be complex
I would be cool
They'd say I played the field before
I found someone to commit to
Elide liked this song, and had she been alone she probably would have sung along. But she wasn’t about to expose Lorcan to her sup-par singing, especially when...
There was a tapping noise and Elide turned towards the source. Lorcan’s fingers were tapping on the steering wheel, along to the music. Elide turned back to the front but kept watching him from the corner of her eye.
I'd be a fearless leader
I'd be an alpha type
When everyone believes ya
What's that like?
Lorcan kept tapping his fingers, and then to Elide’s complete shock she heard him mumbling the words under his breath, his voice so low.
I'm so sick of running
As fast as I can
Wondering if I'd get there quicker
If I was a man
And I'm so sick of them
Coming at me again
'Cause if I was a man
Then I'd be the man
Elide grinned.
~~~~~
“You a fan of this song?” Elide asked and Lorcan startled, his mouth immediately clamping shut. He hadn’t meant to start singing, he hadn’t realised what he was doing.
Lorcan shrugged, “It’s on all the time.”
“That’s not what I asked,” Elide said simply.
Lorcan cleared his throat. Damn him, she had been so still and quiet he had practically forgotten she was there as he had been so focused on the traffic. He had zoned out almost completely, after work, the crawling pace of the cars and sound of the rain filling his brain. “It gets stuck in my head. It’s hard not to know the words.”
“If it's any consolation I like it too,” Elide said, and he could see her smiling.
“I didn’t say I liked it,” Lorcan said.
“Sure, sure,” Elide said. “But I do have a playlist, I could give it to you.”
Despite himself Lorcan felt his lips twitch up. “I’m fine thanks.”
“If you change your mind please let me know, I’d be more than happy to share,” Elide told him.
Lorcan cut her a glare that probably would have sent lesser men running, but Elide just smiled at him. His heart flipped. Lorcan quickly looked back at the road, back to focusing on the traffic.
They had entered the very nice part of town. When the team had been called out to jobs in this part of town the homes had always been swanky and looked expensive. He was surprised Elide could afford a place here.
“I apartment isn’t mine, well it is but I kind of didn’t pay for it,” Elide said as if she had read his mind. “My parents were insistent that I live here if I was going to be stubborn about living by myself in the city. And with my ankle they didn’t want me to end up in a place like Aelin’s with no elevator, so I thought I might as well.”
Lorcan had noticed Elide’s slight limp, she hid it pretty well, but he wasn’t going to ask about it. That was something that seemed a little too personal, but since she brought it up he opened his mouth to ask the question when the GPS system spoke instead.
Destination on right
Lorcan scanned for a park, but the street was full.
“I’ll just jump out here, we’re practically stopped anyway,” Elide said as she gathered up her things.
“I can —“
Elide cut him off. “It’s fine, Lorcan. The door is just there. Thank you again, it was a pleasure being your girlfriend. Bye.”
She was out of the car before Lorcan could even say his own farewell. Elide turned and waved when she hit the path and waited for Lorcan to wave back before darting into the foyer of the apartment building. She was through the door when he realised he’d once again lost the opportunity to get her number, maybe ask her out for a real drink.
There was a beep from behind him and Lorcan realised he hadn’t moved since Elide had got out of the car. He took his foot off the brake, using that momentum to ease the car forward. He didn’t know why the car behind him had bothered to let him know he’d fallen behind, no one was going anywhere fast. Just like him and Elide.

Duke Reviews: Alice In Wonderland
Hello, I'm Andrew Leduc And Welcome To Duke Reviews, Where Today We Are Continuing Our Look At Disney...
youtube
By Looking At Walt Disney's 13th Animated Feature (And One Of My Favorites), Alice In Wonderland...
This Movie Sees Young Alice (Voiced By Katherine Beaumont) Following A White Rabbit To The Merry, Topsy Turvy World Of Wonderland, Where A Person Can Grow Big Or Small Or You Could Run Into Funny Creatures Like The Mad Hatter Or The Cheshire Cat...
So, What Are We Waiting For? Let's Journey Down The Rabbit Hole As We Watch Alice In Wonderland...
The Movie Starts On A Summer Day As Alice Is Listening To Her Sister Read From A History Book To Which Alice Is Bored From...
Wandering Off Without Her Sister Noticing, She Lays Down On A Riverbank Wishing That She Had A World Of Her Own Which Leads To The First Song...
And For Song To Start This Movie Off, It's Okay But It's Not My Favorite Song Of This Movie However, We Do Get To A Song I Do Like Directly After This One...
It May Be Brief But I Do Like I'm Late For What It Is And I'm Also Glad It's Short Because Having One Song Directly After Another Can Be A Problem In Some Films...
Crawling Into The Rabbit Hole, Alice Soon Finds Herself Going Down,Down,Down The Hole Until She Catches Up With The White Rabbit Until He Enters A Large Hallway With A Small Door That's Barely Big Enough For Alice's Head...
With The Doorknob On The Door Suggesting That Alice Drink The Bottle Marked Drink Me On The Table To Shrink Down To The Door's Size, Which She Does...
However, When She Goes To Open The Door, He Admits That He Forgot To Tell Her That He's Locked...
But Luckily A Box That Says Eat Me Appears Which The Doorknob Says Will Help Her Reach The Key However, When She Does She Grows Too Big...
Weeping Hysterically, She Drinks The Drink Me Bottle Again To Become Small, She Goes Right Through The Doorknob And Into A River Of Tears Which Is Where She Meets The Dodo Who Sings Our Next 2 Songs...
And While The Sailor's Hornpipe Song Is Short Like I'm Late, The Next One Which The Caucus Race Song, Is A Good Song And Really Makes You Want To Run Around The Room...
Running Into A Thick Forest, Alice Meets Tweedle Dee And Tweedle Dum Who Do Another Short Song...
It's A Cute Song, But I Think I Prefer The Version Done In The 1985 Version Sung By Edie Gorme And Steve Lawrence...
youtube
(Start At 0:09)
But We'll Talk About That One On Duke Reviews Xtra On Thursday And Friday...
But Hearing About Alice Being Curious, They Tell Her The Story Of...
youtube
(Start At 0:34)
And I Love This Sequence The Song Is One Of The Best In This But The Ending, Of Course Is Very Sad...
Getting Up To Leave The Two Boys Stop Her As They Attempt To Tell Another Poem Called You Are Old, Father William As Alice Sneaks Away...
It's A Cute Song For As Long As It's On Screen But Again For A Better Version I Refer Again To The 1985 Version Where It's Sung By Sammy Davis Jr....
Coming Upon The White Rabbit's House, She Goes To Talk With Him Only For Him To Confuse Her With His Housemaid, Mary Ann...
That's Because She's Not In Wonderland But On A Deserted Island With 6 Other Castaways...
Ordering Her To Fetch His Gloves From His Bedroom, Alice Gets Them Only To Eat A Cookie That Makes Her Grow So Big That Her Arms And Legs Are Sticking Out Of The Windows And Doors...
Going To The Dodo For Help, He Gets A Chimney Sweep Named Bill To Rip The House's Chimney Off, But Bill's Scampering Causes Soot To Rise Inside Which Makes Alice Sneeze And Shoot Bill Out Of The Roof Like A Cannonball...
Having No Other Option, Dodo Decides To Burn The House Down Which Leads To Another Short Song...
It's A Cute Song, But There Are So Many Short Songs In This Movie They're All Starting To Sound The Same...
Luckily Though, Alice Finds A Carrot In The Rabbit's Garden And Eats It, Shrinking Down In Size To 3 Inches...
Going Into A Garden Of Flowers Where The Flowers Are As Tall As A Tree, They Come To Life And Entertain Her With Our Next Song...
youtube
(Start At 0:05)
And It's One Of My Favorite Songs In This Movie...
It's A Fun Song Which Shows The Different Types Of Flowers And Bugs In Wonderland With My Favorite Being The Rocking Horse Fly...
But Their Attitude Changes When Alice Reveals Herself To Be Not A Flower Which Then Causes Them To See Her As A Weed...
After Being Shooed Away By The Flowers, We Move Into Our Next Song As Alice Meets The Caterpillar...
Who Despite Her Best Efforts To Ask Him How To Grow Tall Again, Continues Interrupting Her And Instructs Her To Recite Various Bizarre Poems...
Eventually Growing Angry At Alice's Displeasure Of Being The Same Height As Him, He Becomes A Butterfly As He Tells Her That One Side Of The Mushroom Will Make Her Grow Taller And The Other Side Will Make Her Grow Smaller...
Eating One Side Of The Mushroom, Alice Grows Back To Her Normal Height After A Pointless Scene Involving A Bird That Just Wastes Time...
Wandering Through The Woods, We Get Our Next Song As Alice Meets The Cheshire Cat (Voiced By Sterling Holloway)...
youtube
After That Encounter, We Get My Favorite Scene Of The Movie And Favorite Song Of The Movie As Alice Meets The Mad Hatter (Voiced By Ed Wynn)...
Disney Showcase: Ed Wynn
Other Characters He's Played For Disney Other Than The Character He Plays In This One:
The Toymaker In Babes In Toyland
The Fire Chief In The Absent Minded Professor
A.J. Allen In Son Of Flubber
Uncle Albert In Mary Poppins
Ed Parker In Those Calloways
Mr. Hoffstedder In That Darn Cat
And Rufus In The Gnome Mobile (Which Was His Final Performance Before His Death)
Going Back To The Story, There Is Also The March Hare (Voiced By Jerry Colonna, Who You May Remember From Casey At The Bat From Make Mine Music) And The Doormouse
youtube
After That Song, They Maniacally Go About The Table, Offering Alice Tea Without Actually Giving Her Any Until The White Rabbit Shows Up, As Hatter And Hare Attempt To Fix His Watch Only To Destroy It As They Send The Rabbit Flying Through The Air...
With Alice Saying...
She Tries To Go Back Home Through The Tulgy Woods, Where She Confronts Many Creatures But Doesn't Find Her Way Home Which Causes Her To Cry As We Get Our Next Song As Alice Cries..
It's A Sad Song But I Don't Know, I Just Don't Care For It...
Finding The Cheshire Cat Again, He Tells Her That The Only Way Home Is Through The Queen Of Hearts, So He Creates A Shortcut To The Queen's Maze Where We Get My Second Favorite Song...
youtube
Which Leads To My Second Favorite Scene In The Entire Movie, The March Of The Cards, And This Scene Is Just Amazing And Full Of Color As We See The Cards March, It Is Honestly A Spectacle To See...
With The White Rabbit Announcing The Arrival Of The Queen Of Hearts And The King, The Queen (Voiced By Verna Felton) Notices The Painted Roses Which Leads To Our Next Song...
Finding Out It Was The 3 Painters, She Has Them Ordered To Be Beheaded Before She Meets Alice Who She Invites To Play A Game Of Croquet With Her...
But As They Play The Cheshire Cat Appears And Attaches The Queen's Croquet Mallet To The Bottom Of Her Dress, Believing That Alice Did It The Queen Is About To Order Her To Be Beheaded.
But With The King Demanding A Trial, The Queen Starts The Trial Of Alice...
youtube
Having A Frantic Chase All Throughout Wonderland, We See Various Characters From Alice's Journey Through Wonderland Until She Ends Up Back In Front Of The Doorknob Who Is Still Locked...
Asking To Get Out Anyway, The Doorknob Laughs Saying That She Is Outside, Showing Her That She Is Actually Asleep Under A Tree In The Park And All Of This Is Just A Dream...
Saying To Wake Up As An Angry Mob Grows Closer And Closer, Alice Eventually Wakes Up To The Sound Of Her Sister's Voice As They Walk Home...
And That's Alice In Wonderland And Despite Sometimes Having Songs Coming One After Another, It Still Is One Of My Favorite Disney Animated Movies..
The Story Is Very Adventurous, I Love The Characters, Most Of The Songs Are Good, I Love Ed Wynn As The Mad Hatter, I Love The Queen Of Hearts As The Bad Guy, It's Just A Great Disney Animated Feature Altogether And I Say See It...
Be Sure To Check Out Duke Reviews Xtra This Week, As We Look At Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland, The Burton-Less Sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass And The 1985 TV Version Of Alice In Wonderland That Was Done By Irwin Allen...
Till Then, This Is Duke, Signing Off...

4. This list will be a bit more laid back since I covered a lot of the most important songs in the last list sooo
5. since i covered his best and most “important” tracks in the last list theres not many left but ill probably include his REALLY early like pre debut fetus tracks with his underground rapper friends, tbh I personally don’t think they are the best but you can definitely see how he grew and where he started from
6. enjoY! and reblog kekeke
7. THIS IS A LONG ASS LIST AND I FUCKING ANALYZED EACH SONG SO I EXPECT YALL TO READ AND APPRECIATE NAMJOON GODDAMIT
8. you can always go to BTS’s official soundcloud for unofficial official tracks yeet
9. titles with stars are ones i recommend ( i should of done this for part one yikes)
1. Voices by Rap Monster ⭐
from his first 2015 mixtape RM > Check out the full album here >> X *you can refer to more mixtape songs in my previous list
I feel as if this song is the closest a fan can get with Kim Namjoon. Just listening to it you feel a bit relaxed and almost a bit sad when you start listening to the first half of the song. This song reflects a person’s tender emotions and voices that run inside of someone’s head when they are confused. I remember listening to this 2 years ago and towards the end Namjoon starts screaming out all his pain and I started crying. C R Y I N G
Namjoon had a really smooth life up until he started pursuing hip hop. He was a beyond smart student and had a happy family so why the hell would he be depressed? He had his whole life ahead of him right?
But this lyrics totally breaks that facade down
“ I didn’t have any dreams just like my lyrics, every day in that way the functions and equations that couldn’t give me an answer in the end those things became uncountable injuries “
Despite having such amazing grades Namjoon did not know what the hell he wanted to do with his life, he didnt want to go into something academic despite being good at it, he was lost in life and his academics could not make him happy but instead hurt him even more.
“ thought I could catch the mirage known as happiness but the me in front of my desk wasn’t happy even for a moment without my mom knowing, I put a sheet of white paper between the pages of my workbook “
This verse totally broke me apart. He wanted to be happy while being in school but school sure as hell did not make him happy. His parents looked up to him as some smartass freak but without them knowing he started writing his own lyrics to cope with his hardships.
“my identity that I wrote down matched to the drum and bass a different, relaxed feeling compared to when I got my report card even when I was #1 my heart couldn’t relax”
The music brought out his true inner feelings, music brought out his true personality rather than when he was almost robot like studying with no self-identity. Despite being number one in class he still felt an emptiness that only music could fill.
“even as 7 years passed... still making my mixtape by myself in one corner of my room some say I’m fake, okay, I admit it, my dark past I can justify it, but I won’t, so that kind of problem won’t happen again the pedal that I stepped on for 7 years has finally been oiled “
Namjoon has been writing music and tried to get recognition for 7 years, despite Bangtan getting fame he is still lonely writing his own mixtape in a dark corner, kind of pathetic ehh idk, in his mixtape interview his dark past was his problematic sayings and actions. He felt the need to appropriate culture in order to rap. He then figured out that music and culture had nothing to do with eachother, music is for everyone. *I’m fake*
And finally after all the hardships after 7 years he is finally started to receive praise and attention!
2. WE ARE BULLETPROOF PT.1 by: Rap Monster, Supreme Boi, and Iron ⭐
Composed 6-7 years ago when Namjoonie was about 15 or 16 THIS SONG IS FUCKING BOP.
2 of Bangtans were also first members are featured here: Supreme boi (yall probably familiar with him) and Iron! (i hope iron never affiliates with Bangtan ever again tho we dont need a criminal around them yikes)
3. Hook by Supreme Boi, Iron, and Namjoon (also the track used in Yoongi’s all i do is win)
Extremely old and pre debut, but old is gold
Probably one of Namjoon’s only ‘diss’ song, he usually doesnt diss others while he raps tbvh
4. Seventeen by Rap monster
I FEEL LIKE I SHOULDNT MAKE FUN OF HIM BC 15 YEAR OLD NAMJOON AT THE TIME WAS PROBABLY REALLY PROUD BACK THEN BUT HE LOOKED SO FUCKING FUNNY BC DAMN THAT HAIR AND HIS VOICE SOUNDS LIKE A CHIPMUNK BUTHUSDHUFUFSUD
5. SKOOL OF TEARS By: Rap Monster, Suga, and Jin ⭐
Absoloute MASTERPIECE! FIRST OF ALL THE ORIGINAL TRACK IS FROM SWIMMING POOLS BY KENDRICK LAMAR AND I LOVE KENDRICK! SECOND, THE RAP FLOW SOUNDS AMAZING NAMJOON IS GOING SO HARD AND DAMN YOONGI BACK AT IT AGAIN! ALSO CREDS FOR BABY BOY JIN FOR SOUNDING SO BADASS HERE BUT HERE IS WHY I LOVE THIS SONG!
I think its absolutely amazing how Namjoon especially writes song towards youth suffering in school, it takes a lot of guts to write against a society that has been around for decades.
“ This is a ring called a classroom This is a stadium with no referee only an audience You know there will never be a victor everyone will lose There will be no victor everyone will lose”
“ That’s right, in the end school is like another mini society A jungle made carelessly by adults They made the weaklings weak, they made the strong powerful Of course since they were strong they made the weak suffer A society built on the teachings that friends are only for pretend The morals of adults made us step on the weak to rise to the top “
Its clear to see that Namjoon has suffered in school but also isnt afraid to address the truth.
6. Expensive girl by Rap Monster
( I FUCKING DISCOVERED THIS SONG WHEN I WAS LIKE 11-12 AND I NEVER WANTED TO PUT THIS HEAR BUT YALL LIKE FOUGHT ME TO ADD THIS TO THE LIST GODDAMIT I HATE YALL I GOT LIKE HATE MAN OKAY)
“Take it off now girl just take it off (I’m a master, baby with your bra)Take it off now girl just take it off (I can help you slide those panties off)(..I’m a beat that pussy like you never ever felt before)x2″
7. Converse High (original version SUNG by Rap Monster)⭐
Yall probably heard Bangtan’s Converse High but here was the original version written by Namjoon that was rejected bc of the swearing omg damn joonie, BUT HE SINGS SO BEAUTIFUL IN THIS YESS
(funny story in seventh grade when this came out it was the last day of school and i requested my teacher to stay after school late so i could finish listening to the whole thing)
8. Suicide by Rap Monster
Rapmon wrote this mixtape in the point of view of a baby in his mother’s tummy. The baby’s parents are high school kids who are forced to go through abortion.
*this song was deleted bc of copyright and also the source of it is unknown but hey ITS IN ENGLISH AND DAMN NAMJOON RIGHTS DEEP SHIT*
(tf is namjoon doing u good)
9. What am I to you by Rap Monster from the 2014 Dark & wILD ⭐
if you DONT KNOW THIS SONG I SUGGEST YOU RETHINK YOUR LIFE DECISIONS BC LOWKEY HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST INTRO’S TO A OFFICIAL BTS ALBUM (gif is from the live ver of this song and he started crying ok)
So Namjoon used to have a girlfriend who “mistreated” him. Tbvh we really don’t know what happened but on problematic men he said it wasnt anything serious it was just she would neglect him and not spend enough time but also hang out with other men.
(gif aint mine so gif blogs dont come at me)
But clearly the lyrics of this song are very emotional but the real reason why this song is a masterpiece is because of the rise of emotions.
It starts off slow and cute, Namjoon mentions how he loves the girl and how their love is pure and innocent, throwing cute love phrases and the song sounds so soft, hopeful, and romantic. But in the middle the music starts to get more serious and Namjoon starts to question the relationship. He feels as if the girl thinks of this relationship as more of a task and a job, and slowly as the song comes to an end NAMJOON STARTS FUCKING SCREAMING AND BELTING! ALL THE EMOTIONS BUILD UP AND HE STARTS SCREAMING “WHAT AM I TO YOU GIRL WHAT AM I TO YOU I DO LOVE YOU CRAZY UH DO YOU” LIKE IT WAS SCARY I WAS CRYING IM LIKE NAMJOON WHO TF HURT YOU
10. Always by Rap Monster ⭐
This song is more recent and farely well known but I still felt the need to put this masterpiece here. Namjoon said not to worry about him as the lyrics are really sad and almost ???SUICIDAL??? but he said he wrote this when he was stressed last year. Its kind of a self questioning song about life and your purpose. I cried when it came out. well i always cry when i listen to namjoon is it a surprise.
I'm honestly in tears because this song goes to show how hurt Namjoon still is even after all these years. Even after all these awards, fans, and accomplishments. Depression still hurts after a long time. I can tell that this song was talking about his past. This song literally made me realize Namjoon was questioning his existence and I wanna hold him so badly. Guys...we could of lost Kim Namjoon. My absolute favourite human being in the entire world who saved my life. He is a human being who does not deserve such pain but I am so proud he endured it so well and look how far he came. One of my favourite verses "I live for the sake of understanding this world, but why hasnt the world tried to understand me atleast once" Its a really vague phrase which is why I like it. WORLD could mean destiny, fate, life, even parents. He tries so hard to accept his life, to understand his parents wishes, sacrificing his own happiness yet fate decides to only give him the worst. "Dad please listen to me" "dead dad, your dead to me," Talking about how his dad wouldn't let him rap. I remember him mentioning that his dad once told him all that education he worked hard for was for nothing and I can’t imagine how sad Namjoon felt in that moment. "I would tell god if I ever meet him, i would hold him by the collar and tell him this life is like a coffee I never ordered" A pretty sad and a bit confusing verse, maybe leading to why Namjoon eventually became an atheist. Namjoon was in so much pain he didnt want to be born. "I wished I was dead...... I wished “Someone would kill me" No Namjoon never utter such words. My joonie mini I hope you are better and hopeful now, look at how far you came, your so successful and loved, and you made your family proud. Dont ever doubt yourself and even think about death, just keep living happily and moving forward. He honestly felt lost in this point of his life and still continues to feel lost. Namjoon you have such in important role and your existence was destined. You were born for a reason. You were born to change lives.
11. J-Lim ft. Rap Monster & Iron - Ashes
12. TIPSY BY RAP MONSTER & SUPREME BOI
Namjoon wrote this in the beginning of his rap career when he was still trying to find where he stood as a rapper. He mentions how he isnt doing this for the fame or money and he isnt the next Nas or Tupac he just wants to rap for the love of it.
13. Rap Monster of 방탄소년단 (BANGTAN),Supreme Boi,i11evn,Marvel.J - You can't do that
*i suggest you skip ahead to 1:30 for namjoon fire verse, shade intended*
14. RAP MONSTER of 방탄소년단,Suprema,Marvel.J,Kyum2 - Rollin
I also recommend you to skip ahead to 2:40 BC DAMN BOY GOES HARD
But tbvh pre debut namjoon squad (supreme boi , young jeezy, iron are hella problematic and say the n word in this and still do so im like yikes im happy nam left you) “ They pissed, now rape me" bitch whet
yeah im just here for namjoons verse bye

16. Rap Monster- Thinking Bout you
Joonie Mini Representing Biggie smalls eyyy!
17. Glory By Rap Monster
"I'm a dick? Yeah, when you disturb me, I grow bigger" SO FUCKING DONE
*there was lowkey lowkey controversy bc he said he tore 4 hymens BUT DETECTIVE LAMI FIXED IT*
In the beginning Namjoon says that people looked at him pitifully because he joined BTS, the Underground rappers were disappointed with him which led the Underground rappers to leave him, which has ripped his hymen. Not 4 hymen of random girls. 4 and "I" sound the same in Korean
it's a bit weird but in this case he is talking about himself all the hate people showed has ripped his hymen symbolizing his innocence for music.
18. NAA BY RAP MONSTER
tHE ORIGINAL BEAT WAS DEUCES BY CHRIS BROWN I WAS DYING
19. REGULAR VOICE BY RAP MONSTER ⭐
A really sweet and open-minded song about Namjoon wanting a “regular girl” “Height? I don’t care. Age? I don’t mind it. When you say, “I’ll only look at you” then I’m okay. Whether your skin is light or dark it doesn’t really matter, our love is deeper than that. “
I feel as if idols are pressured to have certain ideal types and say them out in the open, Namjoon had bad influences around him *underground rappers* which also influenced his negative sayings towards certain things but he wrote this song all alone at a young age which shows that his intentions are pure, and ever since he apologized for his wrong doings you go joon.
his voice sounds like sex
20. DREAMING BY RAP MONSTER
FETUS CHUBBY WTF HAIR NAMJOON IS BACK
okay but seriously you can see that despite being young he put a lot of effort and thought into this song!

Ten Questions, Ten Answers: Kdrama Edition
I was tagged by the lovely Sofia @floatingdownthemoonriver Thank you so much much for tagging me!
1. Do you have any actors/ actresses who you think are over rated? Along with their works? Anyone where you just don’t see the mass appeal?
Ji Sung. I don’t even know why. Sometimes about him just doesn’t click with me. The only drama of his that I’ve completed was Protect the Boss. I’ve tried watching other dramas where he’s the lead and I can’t bring myself to get past the first episode. I have nothing against him, I just don’t see his appeal.
2. Are there any dramas you liked but would tweak certain aspects of to make them perfect? If so, which ones and what would you tweak, change or add?
If I could change anything it would be the ending of Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi. It has an open ending where you're left with the feeling that Ok Da Jung and Nam Jung Gi ended up together, but I would make it clear by adding a kiss scene.
3. Top three favourite actresses?
Kim Seul Gi – she’s my all-time favourite actress. I’ll watch her in anything. I watched an episode of Happy Together just because she was a guest. I really want to see her as the lead in drama. She’s leading lady material. She’s wonderful in everything she does and needs more recognition.
Yoo In Na – She’s flawless and she needs more main roles. She’s also leading lady material and needs more recognition. If I could give casting directors one piece of advice, it would be to stop casting minors opposite adult men and cast these two instead.
Lee Sung Kyung – She can take on such different roles and slays every time.
4. What’s the drama world you would like to live in? Is it a goblin world, a mermaid world, a world with a royal monarchy, a world where you could be a ceo at the age of 20 just because of the golden family business? You can include general setting or houses you wouldn’t mind staying in.
I wouldn’t mind being a chaebol heir but I wouldn’t want to be the eldest that inherits the company because I don’t like being the center of attention. I’d want to be someone like Min Hyo Won in Laurel Tree Tailors who gets to have a good job in the company without being in the spotlight.
5. Top three dramas where you loved the fashion/ outfits/ costumes?
Legend of the Blue Sea – Jun Ji Hyun can wear anything and still look flawless. I really liked the costumes in the sageuk part and the mermaid costume.
I really like everything that Lee Yoo Ri’s character wears in Father is Strange. It’s so classy and elegant. I also love that it shows wearing glasses as glamourous and makes me feel happy about wearing glasses.
I loved the outfits worn by Gong Yoo as Kim Shin in Goblin.
6. Top three dramas where you did NOT love some of the fashion/ style choices made?
Beautiful Gong Shim – I hated that Minah had to wear a wig for so long. I hated that they made Gong Shim wear unflattering clothes, which made her like a child for most of the drama. They did nothing to show Minah’s natural beauty (except for the last episode where she looked flawless.)
Kim Tan’s ugly sweaters in Heirs.
Kim Joo Won’s infamous sequinned track suit in Secret Garden. It was just hilarious.
7. Who’s your dramaland hubby/ wife? (mine’s baek in ho ;p) your dream partner? Who is it. Your dramaland soul mate?
That’s an excellent question. I’d pick Kang Hyun Soo (Smile, You) or Jung Joon Hyung (WLFKBJ).
8. Any dramas you thought had wasted potential?
The K2. It had so much potential but I felt like it fell short in every possible way. My love for Ji Chang Wook couldn’t save it. Song Yoon Ah’s brilliant performance couldn’t save it.
The Heirs. They had a stellar cast of top actors and they wasted it. They could have done so much with it. First of all, why did both male leads have to be jerks? Second of all, why did the main pairing have to have such an unhealthy relationship. The side couple is the only thing I liked about this drama. They even wasted BTOB and VIXX cameos. If you’re gonna have a kpop group make an appearance in a drama at least tell the audience who they are and let us hear a full song. I didn’t even know who these groups were until much later when I watched N in Sassy Go Go and Sungjae on WGM.
9. Two dramas where you loved the ost?
Descendants of the Sun is my favourite OST in kdrama history. It’s the first drama where I loved every single song. I remember waiting for weeks for the K.Will OST to be released. I still listen to it regularly. My favourite songs include: Always – Yoonmirae, You Are My Everyting – Gummy, Talk Love – K.Will
The second OST that sticks out to me is Uncontrollably Fond. The drama wasn’t my favourite but the OST was outstanding. My favourite songs include: Picture in My Head – Kim Woo Bin, Don’t Push Me – WENDY & Seulgi, Only U – Junggigo
There are also specific songs that I love:
- You’ve Fallen for Me – Jung Yong Hwa (Heartstrings). This is how I discovered CNBLUE and it will always have a special place in my heart - Listen to My Heart – Melody Day (Tomorrow’s Cantabile) - Forever Love – HEABIN (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim) - Shiny Boy – JOY (The Liar and His Lover) - Honourable mention to the instrumental OST of Signal.
10. What do you think is the most iconic kdrama?
I had a tough time coming up with an answer for this one. It ultimately came down to Secret Garden. I’ll admit that it’s not perfect but it was my first kdrama; therefore, it will always be special to me. This is the drama that started. It’s only right that it gets the title of most iconic from me. It has all the classic kdrama tropes plus fantastical elements. You have the jerky CEO male lead who falls in love at first sight with a strong independent female lead who initially wants nothing to do with him. This drama takes the gender bender trope to another level when the leads switch bodies. Shall I remind you of the iconic coffee foam kiss scene that was recreated in Reply 1988? The OST still gives me all the feels. Yoon Sang Hyun will always be Oska to me. I still wish for Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won to be reunited in a drama because their chemistry was off the charts.
I tag @seokjinings @haeyeongs @jok-ie @nabongsun @bcwaldorf @sleepypie1212
1. Do you ever get second lead syndrome? If so, who is the second lead that you felt for the most, that you loved way more than the lead? Who is the second lead that deserved a better ending?
2. What book/movie would you like to see adapted into a kdrama? Who would you cast as the leads?
3. Who are your top 3 kdrama OTPs?
4. What is your favourite kdrama trope? Name your favourite drama with that trope.
5. Does the OST influence your enjoyment of a drama? Are there any dramas that you’ve watched because of the OST?
6. Who is your bias and who is your bias ruiner?
7. What is a drama that you think everyone should watch? (An essential drama for every kdrama lover.)
8. Who are your top 3 female leads?
9. Create your own love team. (A pairing that you would like to see in everything, or a couple that you would like to see reunited.)
10. Pick an actor and an actress that you would like to see as the leads in a drama? (Your dream pairing, they’ve never worked together before but you think they would be great together. Mine is Kim Seul Gi and Kang Ha Neul.)

The Mom Ch. 2
Fandom: BIGBANG/ Choi Seung Hyun
Synopsis: Crying Conundrum
Warnings: more fluff, with a tiny hint of angst
Author’s Note: I’m not entirely sure I’m happy with this chapter... but it is what it is. :) I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. This story contains fictional representations of real people. None of the events are true. This is from an American standpoint, so some of the situations may not happen the same way they might in Korea. I make no money from the writing of this fictional work.
Masterlist
Two weeks into the life of the twins and things were beginning to get marginally easier. Even though both you and Seung Hyun were both sleep deprived, you had at least settled into a bit of a schedule.
3am – first feeding 6am – second feeding 8am- wake up/playtime 10am- nap 12pm- lunch 2pm – nap 5pm- dinner/playtime 8pm- bedtime feeding 12am – night feeding
And so it went, day in and day out. Of course, it didn't exactly flow like clockwork... but so far it was working well for the four of you.
Seung Hyun's mother came in every day around seven in the morning. So as soon as you had finished feeding the babies, she usually had breakfast waiting for you. And, as annoying as it could be sometimes, you had to admit that you were going to miss her when your thirty days were up.
You were currently laying in bed and feeding Seung Min while your husband held Sung Ja as she impatiently waited for her turn to nurse. He was sitting in “the chair” about three feet away from you & you tried not to laugh as he attempted to coax his crying daughter.
"Come on..." he murmured. "Work with me here. You're supposed to be daddy's little girl, right? Please don't cry.”
“You know that won't work.” you couldn't help but chuckle. Seung Min cooed, blowing a bubble of milk before he nuzzled his way back to the breast.
“I know...” Seung Hyun sighed heavily. A few moments later he began humming softly, which was enough to get her to stop fussing.
“What on earth am I going to do when you leave next week?” you asked him seriously. There were a slew of fan meetings scheduled that was going to separate you from him for the first time since the twins birth. Needless to say, you were not thrilled with the idea, but you knew that there was nothing that could be done about it. “Your singing is sometimes the only thing that will calm them down.”
“I don't know, gongju-nim.” he said, frowning. “But we'll think of something. Don't worry.”
After Sung Ja was finished eating, Seung Hyun helped you tuck the twins back into the crib. The babies weren't exactly asleep, but they were what he laughingly referred to as “milk drunk”, and they usually took about twenty minutes until they were totally awake.
The two of you walked downstairs hand in hand & into the kitchen to have breakfast. Little did you know that Seung Hyun was still mulling over the problem you had posed to him earlier. You did have a point. There had been times when the twins had been a crying, screaming mess and the only thing that would make them stop was the sound of his singing. Somehow he had to figure out a way to help you out while he was gone.
After breakfast was finished, both Seung Hyun and his mother had left the villa. He went to work and she was going out to shop for some groceries. This was one of the rare times that you were actually left alone with the twins. And, while it was still a little intimidating, it was also one of your most favorite times.
You were sitting in the rocking chair in the nursery with Sung Ja in your arms while Seung Min happily sat in the swing, rocking side to side slowly. Looking down at your daughter, you noticed just how much she looked like her father. Both twins did, actually. They both had Seung Hyun's jet black hair, deep brown eyes, and high cheekbones. In fact, the only thing that singled them out as not being purely Korean was that they had slightly less of a tilt in the shape of their eyes.
That didn't seem to matter to him though, and it certainly didn't matter to you either. In your eyes, the twins were the most adorable, perfect children in the entire world. (Apart from their cousins, of course.)
You thought idly about something you'd told Seung Hyun long ago... that there must be some sort of magic to the Choi genes to produce such beautiful children. That thought made you chuckle and you looked over to Seung Min in the swing, watching him wave his tiny fists in the air.
'I'm so lucky...' you thought to yourself. 'I only wish mom and dad were around to see this.'
The sudden wave of sadness that hit caught you completely off guard. How had your thoughts turned on you so quickly? You felt an unexpected, heart-wrenching stab of grief. Your mom...she never got to know Seung Hyun... Your dad never knew that you were happily married … and they would never see their grandchildren. You tried to blink back sudden tears, failing miserably. So instead you just let yourself cry. You cried for the loss of all the could-have-beens that you had tried not to think about in the years since your parents died. You cried at the fact that your children would never know the love that your parents would have undoubtedly given them. And you cried for yourself... because, even though Seung Hyun's mother had been more than supportive, she still wasn't your mom.
What felt like hours later, but was probably just fifteen minutes, you noticed the twins cooing at you in unison. The sound was like music to your ears and snapped you right out of your self pity. Hurriedly, you scrubbed the tears from your cheeks.
"They would have loved both of you." you told them softly as you reached out to stroke a finger across Sung Ja's rosy cheek. The little girl squirmed and kicked her feet at that, making you think that it must've tickled.
Looking around the nursery, at all of the personal little touches that your 'brothers' placed in the room, you knew that you were still adored. Even if your parents were no longer around, the amount of love and acceptance you'd found here in Korea was almost beyond measure. Yes, the twins might not grow up knowing their grandparents, but you knew that they would be among the most spoiled and beloved children in the entire country.
Little did you know that halfway across the city, your husband and brothers were trying to come up with a solution to your little problem.
“So, let me get this straight...” Jiyong said, lazily twirling himself around in the swivel chair in the studio. “You're worried because we're leaving & you don't think ________-ah can handle crying babies without you? I mean... she's is a trained Nanny, for heaven's sake.”
Seung Hyun just shrugged. “All I know is that my singing is sometimes the only thing that calms them down. How am I supposed to do that if I'm not there?”
“She could always call you if she gets desperate.” Seungri offered.
“That's too impractical.” Seung Hyun said. “What if I'm on stage? Or asleep? Or 40,000 feet in the air?”
“Good point.” the maknae agreed with a sigh.
“She could always play some of our music for them.” Youngbae told him.
“Yeah, but... you've got to admit that a lot of our stuff isn't exactly meant to be soothing.” Daesung laughed.
Jiyong let out an over dramatic sigh. “It's a shame that we're not internationally famous idols with access to a recording studio and editing software. Otherwise we could just... oh, I don't know... cut our own lullaby tracks or something.” he said his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Leader-nim, that's brilliant!” Seung Hyun yelled in excitement.
“We do this on one condition though...” Jiyong smirked.
Seung Hyun said nothing, just quirked up one eyebrow and motioned for the other man to continue.
“If you get to spend this morning recording lullabies for the twins, then I want to do one too.”
“Deal.” Seung Hyun said with a wide grin.
“Oh, me too!” Seungri said excitedly.
“And me!” Daesung agreed.
“I want in as well.” Youngbae said, practically bouncing in his seat from excitement.
“This is insane...” Seung Hyun muttered. “Bigbang, the lullaby album.”
“Hyung!” Jiyong said, sounding appalled. “We're gonna have to come up with a better name than that.”
After your little cry fest in the morning, the rest of your day passed relatively smoothly. Or... as smoothly as it could with two week old twins. Just after you'd finished eating your dinner, you were surprised to see Seung Hyun pop his head into the bedroom. Usually he was home much later than this.
“Hi there.” he told you with a smile as he walked into the room. “Do you think that you're up for some visitors? The guys are downstairs.”
“All of them?” you asked in slight shock.
“Yeah.” Seung Hyun chuckled, helping you up out of bed and into a robe. “I think they were going through baby withdrawal.”
You laughed at that as the two of you walked down the stairs. But as you rounded the corner into the living room, you saw that he had apparently been right in his assumption. Jiyong was holding Sung Ja with Youngbae standing beside him, both of them cooing at the baby girl. Looking over, you saw Daesung with Seung Min in his arms as Seungri made silly faces at the boy.
“I'm beginning to wonder if any of you wanted to see me or just the twins.” you laughed, walking into the room.
After exchanging quick greetings, half hugs and cheek kisses with your brothers all around, Seung Hyun pulled you over to the De Sede chair. He sat down and gently gathered you into his lap, wrapping his arms around you tightly & snuggling his nose into your neck.
“Seung Hyun... the twins...” you sighed.
“They're fine, ________-ah.” he told you. “Let the guys have their fun and let me have mine.”
His body felt so good against you that you didn't even try to argue his point. So, for the next few minutes you just enjoyed the peace and quiet cuddled into your husband's warm embrace. It wasn't until Jiyong cleared his throat that you looked up.
“Wait... where's Sung Ja?” you asked.
“She fell asleep.”
“So did Seung Min.” Seungri said with a laugh.
“So we took them upstairs to the nursery and tucked them in.” Youngbae told you.
“You're welcome.” Daesung finished, smiling.
You couldn't help but laugh at the exchange. “Thanks, guys.”
“We have a present for you, yeobo.” Seung Hyun said quietly.
“A present?” you perked up, making him chuckle quietly.
Jiyong held out his hand towards you, handing over something vaguely square shaped.
“A CD?” you asked, curious. Looking closer at the case, you saw that it was packaged similarly to the MADE album... only this said STOP in bold white letters. Peering closer you saw that in parentheses under that, in smaller font, was written: (crying)
“It's something that you can play for the twins while I'm gone.” your husband explained, placing a kiss to your cheek. “Hopefully, it will do the trick.”
“Hyung recorded five tracks, then the rest of us did one each and there's two songs with all five.” Seungri told you.
“This is...” you smiled, turning it over in your hand. “This is a great idea!”
“Yeah, I know.” Jiyong agreed. “It still needs a better title though. But it's the best we could do on such short notice.”
Once they had all left to go home, around an hour later, you tiredly climbed the stairs. You knew you'd have to give the twins their bedtime feeding before you could sleep though.
You both walked into the nursery and over to the crib, each of you picking up a child. Seung Min opened his eyes and scrunched his face at his father.
“He’s wet.” Seung Hyun said.
“How do you always know?” you asked him as you carried your daughter over to the rocking chair so you could nurse her.
Your husband shrugged. “The only time he makes that disgusted face is if his diaper is dirty.”
You watched as he whisked his son out of the diaper and into a clean fresh one before the baby even had a chance to start crying. “He’s hungry, too, when you’re done with Sung Ja.”
“I figured as much.” you chuckled. She was already starting to doze back off, her suckling growing weaker as she slipped into slumber. “I think she’s done.” you told him, and you swapped twins.
Seung Min attached himself to your other breast as though he’d been starving for weeks and you hadn't been feeding them at all. Putting a cloth over his shoulder, Seung Hyun patted gently at his daughters back till she burped, then cleaned her face off. A fresh diaper for her, and she was swaddled and placed in the crib, probably already dreaming.
“You've certainly gotten the hang of this Daddy thing pretty quickly.” you observed with a smile.
Seung Hyun plopped tiredly onto the ottoman directly at your feet. “Well I did have a little bit of practice.” he said, referring to his niece and nephew.
You rocked and hummed to Seung Min, still eagerly feeding at your breast.
“Is he ready to go back to bed?” he asked, and you glanced down.
Seung Min's tiny brow was wrinkled in fierce concentration, and he still sucked strongly,
“I don’t think so, yeobo.”
He nodded and made himself comfortable, & you watched as he fought away sleep. It was very late, and the day had started much earlier for both of you.
“You don’t need to wait up.” you said, a yawn catching you off guard and garbling your words.
Seung Hyun's lips quirked before he yawned too. “I can put him to bed when he’s done. Let me do it while I still can.” he stifled another yawn.
You shrugged as you guided the baby into switching breasts. Sung Ja hadn’t fully drained the first and Seung Min was still hungry. After a while he fell asleep still nursing, and you eased your nipple out of his mouth, covering yourself back up. You caught Seung Hyun's eyes on your breasts for a moment before he stood up to retrieve his son. “I’ll take care of him.” he said softly.
You didn’t argue, and by the time the baby had been burped and set back in the crib beside his sister, you were already up and at the doorway.
“Sleep well.” Seung Hyun told them quietly, taking your hand and leading you across the hall to your own room.

Music, language barriers and prejudice.
As westerns, we have grown accustomed to listen to music which comes from United States or England, and this is the way it's been for decades. We consume english lyrics on a daily basis, almost all the songs on the radio are in english and even if we don’t know the exact translation for a song we just sing it because it isn’t something we’re aware of, in fact, a lot of adults, especially our parents or older people don’t pay attention to the meaning behind a catchy song, they know part of the lyrics by heart and we’ve been raised almost the same way. Personally, I think there’s a difference between the previous generations and the actual one due to the fact that we have the technology and devices to look for a translation, a way to listen to more songs or the whole album and even different artists that are similar to the ones we listen to, but even when we have the tools to expand our musical knowledge and experience distinct genres, it seems like we don’t want to get out of our comfort zone. What do I mean by this? A topic that wasn’t so present in my life until now that I realized how important is the issue of language barriers, prejudice, ignorance, and in some instances, racism.
I was part of the audience who only listened to anglo music no matter the genre, I was always open to new recommendations but only in english. If someone wanted to make a suggestion about an artist from Asia, for example, I would act like I didn’t care because I strictly consumed mainstream american popular music, everything else in another language was odd or weird for me. My friends and my parents were also used to listen to american artists but my little world that revolved around this language changed drastically one day when I decided to give korean music a try. I have to admit that I was prejudiced against this genre, everything I imagined the famous called “K-pop” would be...it wasn’t. I don’t know what I expected, I guess my ignorance was waiting for something childish or related to anime opening theme songs, but I discovered something really different, something that helped me understand a whole culture and a hidden form of racism behind prejudices that weren’t only mine but shared with more people. I came across different questions, ignorant questions, who remarked our misguided notions about east asia's music, in this case, from South Korea. Here are some examples that I heard after I told some friends I started to listen to that kind of music. “How do you understand it when it isn’t in english? Do you know what they’re saying?” “All I hear is /ching-chong/” “They all look the same, how do you know who’s who?” “Why do men wear so much makeup? Are they gay?” “Can you start listening to normal music again?”, and the list doesn’t stop. People usually make fun of asians, this is an issue regarding racism and it’s a deeper topic because stigmatize a whole race, but when it comes to music it looks like some of us considered Asia and its people a different species just because they speak a different language, me included when I acted like it was something to be mocked.
The big question arises after I took enough time to check more than just Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. That was the first song I heard back then, and a lot of people disliked this song because they found it ridiculous, others loved it because it was a different sound and had a choreography that I bet it’s still on our minds. But I had to ask for recommendations, soloists, groups, and not only the pop genre but indie, r&b, hip hop and rock. That was the moment when I felt ashamed of myself for staying in a box and of course, of making fun of young people that listened to these performers. It was hard for me because I wasn’t used to the korean language, I didn’t know what the songs meant but as I had the tools to look for the answers I used them and I figured out that you don’t need to understand the lyrics at the first listen to like it or to feel the vibe because that’s what music is about; entertainment, having fun and making your life easier when you press play. That’s when I stopped worrying about not knowing a word in a language that wasn’t english or spanish and I enjoyed the music and the effort behind every release.
I realized korean music isn’t different from what’s made in America and it has nothing to envy from them. Firstly, korean companies actually work with american producers and vice versa. Many artists, such as Bruno Mars, have written for korean groups and soloists, american producers have also worked with them to release albums always looking for different styles and genres depending on the company and the artists. Another reason why people dislike korean music is mostly because they think the lyrics don’t mean anything, of course even in english songs we’re going to find songs that have a repetitive chorus and not a deep message to express through it but many of these korean singers actually write about social injustice, mental illnesses, suicide, lgbt topics and issues that are really delicate in Korea, considering that it’s a country which is not as open as we are regarding what was mentioned before. In addition, companies train them to be a complete performer, they not only sing but also dance, rap and have to learn different languages to communicate with fans all over the world and when western shows recognize them giving them awards (which rarely happens because the american industry is also racist when it comes to artists from other countries). And we could say that this type of music doesn’t sell or its singers haven’t achieved anything to be relevant nowadays, the truth is, in my personal case, I didn’t know how powerful they were until I read straight facts about the most successful and best-selling korean groups for the past fifteen years, for example we can find groups who have sold fifty million records and more like soloist IU, the groups SNSD and 2NE1; also groups who have sold twenty million records or more like EXO, Wonder Girls, f(x), BTS and more; but the most important achievement related to best-selling artists is probably the group BIGBANG who has sold more than one-hundred million records. At the last Billboard Awards the group BTS was the first korean group to win an american award, which brought a lot of recognition to other groups and musicians, who also felt proud because the topic about prejudice is known by most of them. To conclude with this part of the post I want to remark the situation of korean music (and international or non-english songs) not being nominated to any shows like The Grammys. We live in a world who revolves around american celebrities, music, movies and more; we consume what they sell because we haven’t looked beyond our reality and eyes. You’re wondering what was my purpose when I decided to write about this, it’s simple and we talked about the appreciation that an artist receives by putting in perspective their nationalities. Does “being american or british” have anything to do with the recognition that a musician gets? Or the talent that a performer has? Is music sung in english better than the one made in other languages? Or is it because we’ve grown in a side of the world that is constantly revolving around the western culture and ignores everything that happens in other continents because they realize their industry isn’t better or a competition to them? It’s up to you to decide, and as a person that loves music, I understand that it is for everybody and you’re not forced to like a certain genre or artist; everyone is entitled to their own tastes. But making fun of it just because it’s not your style or making assumptions based on ignorance about a topic into which you don’t have insight won’t help to change our perspective on different music styles nor expand our musical knowledge. I educated myself about it and I hope I get the opportunity to discover music from all over the world because it’s important to bear in mind that language barriers, prejudice or ignorance shouldn’t stop us from enjoying songs. Korean artists were only one example from many others that exist, there are a lot of musicians from other countries that we should give a try, and sure, english songs are popular without any doubt, but there’s more than that, so much more than that.
To finish, I would like to share with you different styles seen in korean music nowadays.
