I started responding to this, got annoyed about something on my phone, and closed my computer. Ya know, like an adult. Anyway, fun little squishy balls is the only way to go.

Now before I say anything, no one come for me. These are my headcanons. I’m allowed to have my own opinions, and you are allowed yours.

I think that soft sweet boys can be hard doms too. I think if you communicated about it and discussed it, Namjoon could, Hoseok could, and maayyyyybe Jimin could. I don’t really see any of the boys as exclusively hard doms. In my HC, and what I’ve discussed with my friends, I mostly see Jin as a sub or the softest little soft dom if you asked really nicely. Yoongi is a switchy baby, but sub Yoongi makes me weak. Hoseok and Namjoon, I personally see as a dom, but I love reading fics with them as subs when they’re written well. Taehyungie, our little demisexual boy, is a switch in my brain. Jiminie is whatever he needs to be. Jungkook likes to pretend he’s a dom on stage, but he’s just babie. @taetaesbaebaepsae said it best “service top at best.” Additionally, to quote another Noona friend, @illneverrecover “not every sexual encounter has to have dom/sub or top/bottom dynamics”

I also think that fanfiction often portrays people as “hard doms” when really they’re just assholes. For some of my thoughts on hard and soft doms and some of my experiences, see below the cut.

The line between soft and hard dom blurs with the growth of the relationship. You are able to push boundaries or change dynamics as you get to know one another and negotiate your limits.

So my Dom considers himself a soft dom most of the time, and I do to. His is not so much a caregiver, but his is caring. He is definitely a pretty quintessential “Daddy Dom and Sir combo” to me with a smattering of Master/Owner tendencies. Our dynamic has changed big time since our relationship started because I am more comfortable.

When we first started seeing each other, he was much much softer. He slapped me across the face when I specifically asked for it. He spanked me softly, nothing too painful. Partially because we were new partners and partially because I was new to the sadomasochism with a partner scene. I did a lot of age regression at the time as escapism and a coping mechanism, and he bought me lots of fun toys, coloring books, and things that littles like to play with. We watched movies together, had vanilla sex, and played games together. He was a more caregiving dom, and I was a more babygirl sub. Granted, we still do those things because we’re in a relationship, but now we do other things too.

Now that we’ve been together for a while, we have pushed boundaries. We discussed how I felt and if I’d be willing to try things before we pushed the boundaries. The first time we pushed boundaries, we did some heavy impact play which I had never done before, and I LOVED it. I don’t love it all the time, but I loved it with him. Then we did some other things with bondage, impact, sadomasochism, and punishment that we found did or did not work for us. We’ve recently talked about a few other new things that we’d like to try, but the most important part of it is that we talked it out. Those are the things I don’t really talk about here because people have very strong opinions about the nonsexual D/s relationships that involve service and stuff. I have a few hard limits that he knows. He will never ever cross my hard limits. Soft limits can be pushed so long as there is communication before, during, and after.

I’ve gotten off track. Anyway. My Dom considers himself a soft dom, but he still spanks me, slaps me across the face, ties me up and leaves me in a room while he goes to do work, calls me a slut/whore, canes me, flogs me, paddles me, chokes me. So he does the “hard dom” stuff while still taking complete and total care of me. He holds me in his arms, tells me he loves me, takes long hot showers with me while I sit on the floor and just let the water run over me, watches anime with me, brushes my hair - all as before and after care. That is what I need from a dom. I need to be taken care of and felt that I’m loved. I think that that piece is left out of fanfiction a lot, even with “soft doms” or “hard doms.” Sure, if you want him to slap you across the face in your fiction, that’s fine, but maybe like...also have him make sure you’re into that and draw you a bath after or something. Ya know?

The dynamics of domination and submission are so much more complex than they are often portrayed in fanfiction. It takes communication and rules and growing pains. I’m afraid that people read these fics about like JK being a hard dom on the first night that he meets someone and thinking that’s okay. It’s not. There is no established relationship or dynamic. If some random dude at a club was calling me or one of my girls, gays, or theys a whore or tried to do bondage with them, I’d slap him across the face in a very non-sexual way.

I have a lot to say on the topic, clearly. And the education piece of bdsm is missing from this community. I don’t claim to be an expert because I’ve had had like 3 doms in my life, but I do know there are a few basic ground rules of entering into a BDSM relationship. If anyone has stuck around this long and cares to hear more on the subject, let me know. I am happy to talk forever about it.

You hated it, how even after all these years, just a string of words, a smell, a nightmare, anything that reminded you even slightly of that time could send you spiraling; amp up your heart rate, disrupt your breathing, force tears to your eyes, and steal your ability to speak.

It was rarer, these days, for that all consuming feeling of dread and fear to overtake you. Time would never heal this, but it was easier to push it to the back of your mind, to go through the motions of your day to day like a semi-functional human being, with the trauma of days long gone buried securely behind multiple thick walls.

So rare, in fact, that you had never brought it up to your lover. Its not that you didn't trust them, far from it. Your conversations had merely never turned in that direction, and there was never a right time to just bring that up. You kept telling yourself that it didn't matter, that it was long in the past and you hadn't even had an anxiety attack in ages anyway.

But now, here you were, curled up in your bed, blanket wrapped tightly around your shoulders in an attempt to hold yourself together.

Your door opened and fear shot through you like cold fire, for the briefest of seconds you were that same scared little child again, expecting to see your abuser as your eyes shot to the source of footsteps. Relief washed over you like a warm wave as you saw it was not them, but your lover, their eyes full of barely concealed concern as they rushed to your side, taking your hands in theirs and searching your eyes.

"Whats wrong?"

You opened your mouth, but no words came, only a choked sob as tears spilled down your face. Your tongue felt like lead in your mouth, your jaw wired together by anxiety. Their grip on your hands tightened.

It was time. You needed to tell them. You wanted to tell them. And so you took a deep breath, and told your story as best as you could.

He's almost relieved, in a way, that you're opening up to him

It explains so much, and he's kicking himself for not realizing sooner, for not seeing the signs, certain aspects of your behavior, for what they were and putting two and two together

Feels like a terrible boyfriend for not noticing and leaving you to deal with this on your own

But you're not on your own anymore

he may not totally understand your situation, but he's no stranger to traumatic childhood events himself

Makes it clear that he is going to support you and support you hard, making sure you know you can talk to him about this any time

He never brings it up first, but is always ready to listen

All in all yall already know he's perfect boyfriend material and this is no exception

His hand mouths kiss your palms to try to comfort you

Pulls you into a giant hug when you finish speaking and kisses your tears away

Oh shit but wait maybe you don't want to be touched right now? Thats a thing right?

Doesn't have any knowledge on this but he's trying ok

Is very open to any changes that come to your dynamics because of the new found news

Like completely stops initiating sex because he doesn't want you to feel pressured

And just all in all starts treating you like you're fragile

Its sweet, his heart is in the right place, but that isn't what you want of course

Well, he heavily suspected. I head canon him as an abuse survivor himself, and he recognized the signs

Knows how difficult it is to talk about, so he was just waiting for you to feel comfortable enough to bring it up

Lowkey relieved, because even though its horrible, having someone else who understands that particular brand of trauma is rare

Especially for him since he's never opened up to anyone else like he has you

But he's also fucking furious

We all know Sasori views people as possessions

And even though he loves you more than anything else in the world, he still feels that way about you too, to a smaller extent, but its there

So the thought that someone did that to something of his?

Oh he mad

But he has enough wherewithal to not let you see that burning rage while you're upset and confiding in him

He listens attentively, and gives you as much comfort as he can until you calm down

Finds some way to weasel out the identity of your abuser without upsetting you(ya boi is manipulative af)

Later has one of his spies hunt the person down and capture them, and then sneaks off and takes his sweet time to make them regret ever even looking at you

Might tell you about his own abuse sometime in the future. Maybe.

Kakazu:

Its not often that Kakazu feels the need to put effort into holding back his anger

But this is one of those times

Because he is livid

He has always taken extra joy in collecting the heads of child rapists for bounties

He may be immoral in regards to most things, but that is a line that should not be crossed

And to think about that happening to you makes him want to kill

Makes a vow to himself as soon as the words leave your lips, that he will find the scum that did this and destroy them. Slowly. Painfully.

But for now he listens, holding you hands with as much gentle care as he can muster

Kakuzu is at a loss for how to handle delicate, emotional situations like this. But he tries, for you.

Wiping away your tears and holding you softly, allowing far more cuddles and gentle affection than he normally would that night

He feels that acting different around you after would be an insult to your ability to handle a problem you've been dealing with for years

But he can't help but be a little easier on you, letting you get away with more back talk or general acts of affection than usual

He may even surprise you with a few small gifts

That necklace you were eyeing in the last town? That new album by that group you like that just dropped? A collectors edition of your favorite book?

As much as he hates spending money, he just can't help himself

Afterall, the fact that you trusted him, him, with this information makes him feel a bit squishy inside

Hidan:

Another one for team "I'll fucking kill them!"

But much more upfront about it

Unlike Sasori and Kakuzu, he does not have the sense to not let his rage be know to you while you're telling him

But then he sees how you shrink, how you curl further into yourself, how you start crying that much harder

"Fuck, baby, I'm sorry. I'm not mad at you."

Once you calm down, you have to explain that him being angry and aggressive does not help when you're fighting off these memories

He feels like shit for upsetting you further

Go easy on him. You're the first person he's ever cared about. He's emotionally stunted but hes trying

Kind of just shuts up and let's you talk after that

Is lowkey amazed that you were hiding all these awful feelings this whole time

Is also lowkey amazed that you were able to function and seem so normal with them

Holds you close when you finish, and in the most serious, calm tone you've ever heard from him, promises that no one will ever hurt you like that again, and that he will make this person pay

They aren't worthy of being a sacrifice to Lord Jashin.

But you best believe Hidan will make them suffer

Konan:

Sad girl is sad

Also not surprised, she knows how common it is for these things to happen

She's dealt with sexual harassment hersef

But her heart aches for you

Holds you tight, letting you cry into her shoulder and cling to her as much as you want

Soothingly stroking your back or arm or petting your hair as you let it all out

She can relate to many of the feelings you share

Is literally the only one who thinks to ask if you have any triggers

Not quite as supportive as Kisame, but still validates your feelings

"Its ok to be angry."

"You've been so strong."

"Be gentle with yourself."

Doesn’t let it affect your relationship

But she is more understanding if you get in a mood

If you're being especially irritable or pushing her away, she may ask, "are you ok?" and give you a look

Its frustrating but also helps ground you

You've been hiding this pain from him all this time… why?

Finding out something so terrible happened to you, seeing how deeply its hurt you, has him crying right along with you

Feels helpless that he can't make it better

"I should have been there to protect you."

"Obito, we didn't even know each other."

"That's irrelevant."

Is super comforting though, kisses your fingers and plays with your hair and tells you how much he loves you

Very eager to do anything in his power to make you smile

"Is there anything I can get you, baby? Do you want a glass of water? Tea? Sake? How about some ice cream? A foot massage? New kunai? A private island? Want me to kill all the world leaders tomorrow?"

He's excessive but its cute and makes you laugh

Is the only one considerate enough to actually ask if you're OK with him killing your abuser

If you say yes, he'll also ask if you want to watch

There won't be anything left of the person after Obito is done with them. No blood. Not a scorch mark. Not even a stray skin cell. Nothing. He completely erases them from existence.

-there’s actually some logic to it, Michael read somewhere that doing something scary makes endorphins or something and creates a bond faster

-so there you are, in the forbidden forrest with two Slytherins who are asking a BUNCH of questions because they actually want to get to know you

-there’s a sound and somehow Michael is the toughest of the three of you and ends up laughing his ass off at you and Luke

-but you look pretty scarred

-they push you between them and hug you, which actually makes you feel pretty safe

-”you guys totally planned this.” you mumble against Luke’s chest

-sneaky snakey boys

-but yeah, you three get the fuck out of that forrest because Michael can only pretend to be 100% relaxed for so long

-they also know a number of secret passages in the school and you end up in one

-just sitting on the ground talking, backs against the walls

-they’re not as scary as you originally thought

-you end up talking about why neither of them ever go for Hufflepuffs

-”puffs are too sweet and innocent.” Michael explains, “we might be assholes but we usually don’t see a reason to ruin that.” “so what makes me different?” “you’d be more than a fuck.”

-Michael smacks Luke lightly because Luke’s gotta stop being such a dick

-”we’re on our first date-” “you like us.” Luke interrupts.

-its true. he might be a sneaky, snakey dick, but he knows when girls like him and you like him

-he’s staring you down with that classic Slytherin smirk and he knows he has you exactly where he wants you

-”bet you’re not that innocent.” he continues, “after all, you’re here, with both of us.”

-you could swear he’s about to kiss you but this asshole wants you to close the distance, he wants you to want it as much as he does

-Michael’s watching the whole thing with a smirk because this is Luke’s move.

-then you do something that surprises both of them

-you grab Michael and kiss him instead

-he immediately pulls you onto his lap so you’re straddling him

-he is grinning against your lips

-his hands move to your ass and that makes you pull away while he smirks up at you

-Luke’s getting kinda pouty for obvious reasons

-you give in and move so you’re straddling Luke

-and for some reason, you wait for him to kiss you which completely flips the usual power dynamic for him but he can’t help himself as his hand tangles in your hair and he presses his lips against yours

Summary: Robin explains his proposition to Regina.

It had been 5 years since Robin had seen Regina Mills. She had worn suits every day over the year long court battle and always looked so put together, despite having a toddler at home. He always commended her for that. She seemed so strong, until the verdict that was. He watched her break down into Daniel’s arms, looking more devastated than he had ever seen anyone.

Now, she looked a lot more relaxed. She was wearing a pair of lounge pants and a long-sleeved shirt, her hair shorter. God, she was more beautiful than she had any right to be.

“I don’t understand,” Regina said, pulling him out of his thoughts. “I tried for over a year to get him back. It’s impossible.”

“A lot has changed.” He stuffed his hands into his pockets. “I’ve been taking care of Henry for the past 4 years.”

Regina tilted her head. “I don’t understand. Emma was the one that got custody after the case.”

“Emma died a year after the verdict.”

Regina’s eyes widened and she stepped away from the door, gesturing for him to come inside. He stepped into the house, looking around the comfortable yet meticulously decorated living room. On the mantle piece above the fire place were a few pictures, some of her and Henry, but most of just him. He had never seen baby pictures of his nephew. It was hard to think that he had once been a squishy little baby. In the pictures where he was held by his former adoptive mother, he was looking at her with all the love in the world.

“What happened?” Regina asked.

“It was a car accident, her and my mom were in Spain together.”

“Was Henry with them? Is he alright?”

Robin had to hold back a laugh. There was so much he wanted to tell Regina, but his lawyer had advised him against it. “No, Henry was with my sister in California at the time. Emma barely took care of him anyway.”

Hurt filled Regina’s eyes and he couldn’t blame her. “So, you have custody of him now?”

“That’s the problem. After the accident, my father was given guardianship, but he was barely around to take care of him. Mary Margaret was doing her best to help, but she was just starting college. So, I took over. Henry lives with me.”

Robin sighed. Admitting his faults wasn’t his strong suit, he was pretty sure it wasn’t anyone’s.

“Henry is a very smart little boy. He’s the type to do tons of research and ask for help when it comes to answers he can’t find. We spend a lot of time reading books or going over Google.” He let out a tiny chuckle. “I’ve learned more with him, than I did over my 4 years at Vassar.”

Regina shifted uncomfortably. It should’ve been her bragging about his accomplishments and he knew that. “That’s great.”

“The thing is, he’s starting to remember things. A lot of it is hazy. He can’t remember Emma at all, but he talks about you.”

“Me?”

“He says he remembers crying and holding onto a woman with dark hair. That you gave him lots of kisses and told him it’d be okay.”

Regina bit her lip. “That was the day he was taken away from me.”

“I figured. He’s been asking about why we don’t have baby pictures of him and where he was those first few years. I’ve done my best to explain. I’ve been doing my best period, but I know that Henry needs more than me, he needs a mother. Not just any mother…he needs you.”

“Well, that’s what I argued for two years. Your family didn’t care, they ripped him from me.”

“They were wrong. Mary Margaret and I tried to talk some sense into them, but nothing worked. You have to believe me, I never wanted this.”

“I don’t see how I can help you. What are you trying to say? You want to convince Leopold to give me custody? He wouldn’t do that 5 years ago. What’s going to change now?”

Robin let out a deep breath. “I’ve been fighting for the past couple of years for my father to let me adopt Henry. He’s called me “Dad” a few times and I can tell he wants to on a permanent basis. The issue is, Leopold doesn’t think that I can do it alone. He’s old fashioned, extremely so. Even though he’s a single man, he knows that one day he’ll die. He wants Henry to have a mother and a father, like he would’ve had if my mom hadn’t died alongside Emma.”

“So…what are you trying to say?”

“If we got married, he’d let us both adopt him.”

Regina’s mouth dropped open and for the first time since he met her, she truly seemed speechless. He couldn’t blame her, he knew that this wasn’t the most conventional way. Robin had gone over it a million times in his head before he decided to open up this can of worms. He wanted to do the right thing for Henry and this was the only way he was going to be able to do it.

“Marry you?” Regina asked incredulously after the shock wore off. “I barely even know you. I hate your family.”

“I know, and I don’t blame you. I’m not doing this for me, I wouldn’t expect us to even share a bed. It’s all for Henry.”

“You honestly think your father is going to let me adopt him again? After everything he did to take Henry from me?”

“I’ve discussed it with him. It was never about you, he didn’t want to hurt you and Daniel personally…”

“Well, he did! This entire thing ruined my marriage. I’m assuming you know that, or else you wouldn’t be here.”

Robin sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I hired a private investigator to look into you. I’m aware.”

“Of course.”

“Look, Leopold isn’t a great guy and that’s why I took Henry. He’s getting sicker by the day and I know he doesn’t have much longer. I want him to consent to the adoption before he dies, or else there’s going to be an uphill battle. He’s made it clear if I don’t get married before he dies, Henry will go with Mary Margaret and her husband. Which I know they would do, but it’s not what they want. They’re still young, not even ready for kids of their own, let alone an 8-year-old.”

Robin could tell that Regina was actually considering it, which both surprised him and didn’t at the same time. He wasn’t asking for himself, he was asking for the little boy that they both clearly loved with everything in him.

“You’re sure your father approves of me?”

“He knows at this point, he can’t be choosey.”

She rolled her eyes. “Gee, thanks.”

“You know what I mean. Look, I love Henry. As much as I wish they hadn’t taken him from you, he’s become my entire world. If I lost him…I don’t know what I’d do.”

“Well, I already did.”

“And this is your chance to get him back. This marriage doesn’t even have to be forever. It’s just until my dad dies, then we can work out custody and all of that.”

“You’d be willing to split custody with me?”

“It’d kill me not to see him every day, but I want to do what’s right for him. That starts by marrying you.”

Robin reached into his pocket, pulling out the black velvet box that had been burning a hole in it the 5-hour flight. He knew it was a long shot, but he had to pray that it would work. Flipping open the box, he revealed the diamond that he had selected.

“Regina Mills, will you do me the honor of becoming my nephew’s mother…again?”

Lance is the first person to figure out how to modify his Bayard. He also has the strongest connection to any of lions- his qualities as a leader go completely noticed and Kollivan gives him a nickname (its a very offhanded comment after a particularly harrowing meeting where the aliens were threatening war because voltron worked with the blade but Lance had stood up and calmly but FIERCELY advocated for the BoM)

The name pretty much translates to a rough form of “Honorary Family Member” and “One of Us”

The other blades give him “Looks” but he gives them “His Own Look” and soon enough most of them call Lance by it and he’s hella confused hut it sounds cool so he rolls with it.

Coran pulls him to the side though and explains, and Lance doesn’t cry then but in his room he does because “WOW’

In return for the gesture he makes it a point to refer to the blades as “part of the team unconditionally” and he fights tooth and nail for them to be accepted by others. He really doesn’t know how else he can return the gesture because it means that much to him...

He fights like a Blade now and it shows and he summons his bayard back because thats something he been secretly working on- not only that but he took off from the idea of modifyinghis weapon of choice to making an entirely different weapon in this case somethng more ideal for close quarter combat.

By the end of it, the whole team realizes they’ve missed something. something BIG.

Because Lance is huffing and puffing and moving lifeless bodies out of his way like their simple annoyances- he flicks his bayard back to his side and gathers up whatever got dropped. Someone wearing the blade armor and helmet comes barreling through and puts him in like..this weirdly friendly headlock- saying things like “Atta boy! You did a decent number on them kid.”

Kollivan shows up, gets a brief description- he grins, a full toothy grin thats sorta unnerving on a normally stoic face. He claps Lance on the shoulder and unlike the weeks/months prior Lance doesnt sway or bow over he just laughs and nods along easily morphing into the conversing galra.

needless to say- the team as a whole gets a little whiplash...
