ok buckle up i have a lot of rambling i have to do about constanze amalie von braunschbank-albrechtsberger from little witch academia and none of it is organized everything is stream of consciousness straight from the heart so im gonna put it under a readmore to spare your dashboards thanks <3

ok ok ok. whats up. i just watched episode 18 and nothing more so if anyone happens to have information that would ruin all of this ummm please let me live in blissful ignorance. if not. where do i begin.

it means. So Fucking Much to me that constanze is mute. i cannot even...i can’t describe how emotional and joyful it makes me that this character does not speak. why? because she has a friend group. she is treated so respectfully. her friends understand her and respect her boundaries. even those who aren’t close to her (yet) like akko never push her to communicate in a way that is skewed toward their comfort; instead, they make an effort to communicate with Her. they do not think it’s weird that she doesn’t speak. they do not force her to speak because it would be easier for them. they do not comment on the fact that she doesn’t speak at ALL.

not only that, but constanze has different kinds of communication aids, all of which are REALISTIC! she doesn’t have some like magical voicebox or something that virtually negates her muteness. she has a handheld chalkboard to write out short sentences/phrases if she cannot communicate exclusively nonverbally. she has robots that also speak in complete sentences, but it’s not like she’s communicating at length using them -- for one thing, they have a limited range (see: they are able to point at the mixer in the kitchen and say “i want that” but not explain that they want it for their wild hunt ship), which makes them comparable to, say, a gotalk, which many people use irl. for another thing, they are not directly linked to her brain, so she’s not using them to “speak,” but rather only to assist in her communication (see: akko shows the robots her idea and they dismiss it, but constanze herself goes so far as to implement akko’s idea into the ship because she thinks it has potential, demonstrating that she is separate from her robots despite programming them).

now, the fact that episode 18 follows constanze specifically and shows some sort of character arc happening to her (learning to accept help when she needs it rather than working alone all the time) made me sort of nervous, especially at the end. i mean, i LOVE that the episode was about her, because she's my favorite minor character (and now i think she's my favorite character PERIOD, but i digress), but when akko thanks her and she thinks about how to respond...i'm sure this was intentional? but she acts like she might be about to say something. and i was SO worried that this might happen because, for all the good representation we've seen so far, it can't be PERFECT, right?

no. she doesn't speak. this isn't some inspirationy "overcoming your disability is a character arc" bullshit. instead, she does something that i think is more meaningful overall to her character and the development she's gone through over the course of this episode: she gives akko a genuine smile. and it's adorable. and THAT'S how you do a mute character.

If the type is The Most Knowledgeable And Smart In Their Group But Still A Complete Idiot then yes, definitely, I have a type lmao - seriously tho I dunno if this is specifically about DGM (Lavi and Wisely are pretty similar) or if it’s a general thing, but as far as Wisely goes you might not believe this but over half of the reason why he’s my fave is that he suffers from chronic migraines and I Hard Relate

Haha nah it never got to that, it didn’t take too long for them to teach him to keep his own temperature under check - the fun thing about this actually is that Todoroki’s Tai’s fave hero (Bakugou still can’t believe this rip him) (it’s because with how Tai can lower and raise temperature their quirks are sorta similar) so if anything like that had ever happened Tai would have imploded, probably

For information sake, Mako’s fav hero is Gang Orca! Of course without counting their dads, that goes without saying

Nearly as much as Mina does haha Kaminari’s Tai’s fave “uncle”, actually, since just like Bakugou because of his electricity Kami barely feels the heat so Tai never accidentally hurt him even back when he still couldn’t control himself at all! On a related note Mako’s fav uncle is Tetsutetsu - when she first saw him she was convinced he was a shark too and she was kinda sad when she found out she was wrong, but she still treats him as if they were kin lol if one of Tetsu’s visit goes by without him going “she’s mine now” even once then something’s wrong haha

Ahhh I’m glad you liked them!!!! And they didn’t actually have to deal with that, Mako was adopted when she was four and Tai when he was seven!

I don’t mind one bit so go for it, but I can’t promise the stuff will actually be part of the quirk in the end - I already got ideas for it, but it’s not important since I don’t know if I’ll ever draw them older, and right now both she and the quirk aren’t developed enough for her to do more than what I mentioned!

(If she’d been with her biological parents they would have told her what to expect from it/she would have known watching them, but since she’s adopted and neither Baku nor Kiri have ever known a shark before they’re kind of going at this blind haha it’s gonna take a lot of googling and trying stuff out until they find something that works, once she’ll start training)
