A New Beginning: Chapter 1
Soulmate AU - Savannah is a 21 year old woman, after a family tragedy she moves to New Orleans to attend Tulane University for her 3rd year. She seems like a normal college girl, going to parties, many lovers, beautiful, kind, but what no one knows is that she is supernatural sexual fantasy. She has one large secret, while traveling to her new home she made a pit stop in Mystic Falls, and had the night of her life with the man whose aura was the brightest she had ever experienced. A month later, she walks through the streets of New Orleans experiencing the fun of her new home only to be abducted.
PROLOGUE
Savannah POV
The last 6 months have been a whirlwind of events. After fleeing from my home state and quickly enrolling in Tulsa University for my 3rd year as a Psychology major, I am ready to look forward into the future. I am ready to meet new guys and have fun again. I am tired of being sad and crying all the time waiting for time to rewind and I can go back to happy times with my family, but life is unfair.
1 month ago, I made the decision to stop wallowing in on myself, and to get back into school. 1 month ago I had the best night of my life, I met a guy. No, I met a man named Nik. I went out to the bar ready to spend my night in another nameless man's bed drowning myself in the feelings to forget my emotions. Then this man came to me and introduced himself as Nik, and when our hands touched I felt sparks.
My mama always used to tell me that when electricity shoots through you where a person touched, it means they are your soulmate, I wish I had remembered that, it would have made life much more understandable.
After the sparks, came the drinks, and the smooth talking. Next thing I know is I am having the best sex of my life, and its like part of my soul opened up. I never wanted to tell my family what I had done for them, so they never knew I was a succubus. My mama’s stories of soulmates never made sense to me as a human, but when I awakened in this new life as a succubus I used to dream of finding my soulmate or soulmates.
First the sparks, then the aches, and then the physical connection finishes the bond and once the bond is complete the two halves cannot be separated for long without there being extreme pain. Soulmates become each other's greatest weakness’ and their greatest strengths.
Walking down Bourbon Street, I enter a bar called Rousseaus. As I sit down at the bar, I notice these girls in the kitchen immediately turn to look at me. I subtly sniff the air and smell the scent of witches. Hmm thats fun, I heard of the supernatural community being quite large in New Orleans it was one of the reasons I chose this place to be my new home.
I sit down at the bar, ignoring the stares, and see this cute little blonde walking my way.
“Hi, my name is Cami. What can I get for you today?” she says in a very friendly voice.
“Hello darlin, rum and coke please” I say to Cami, who gets a small blush.
“You ok? Your eyes hold a lot of darkness in them. Sorry, psych major, I tend to let my mouth do the talking before my mind does the thinking” Cami said with a small chuckle.
“That’s alright darlin. I came to New Orleans to start over” I say with a smirk on my face, looking her right in the eyes I ask, “What school do you go to, darlin? I would love to visit you.”
Cami lightly giggles and blushes while saying, “I am a psychology graduate student at Tulsa University”
“Hmmm...well would you look at that. I happen to be a psychology undergraduate student” I lean forward and whisper into Cami’s ear, “maybe you can help me study” I wink and down the rest of my drink before getting up and walking out.
As I wander down the street, letting the emotions of everyone surround me and envelop me. God I love places where people drink, so much sexual energy for me to feed off. Out of no where I get a strong aroma of cinnamon and sex from an alley ahead of me, it is like a large beacon telling me to go near it. Walking down the alley, I whip around ready to get a look at the intruder's aura before I can. I feel a rag pressed to my mouth and within seconds I feel myself being carried out of the alley before the darkness welcomes me.
I wake up with the largest headache known to man. God, this is worse than when I was human and went on a camping trip with a few friends, and drank 2 bottles of tequila by myself.
“Oh good, you’re awake,”
“Who are you and why am I here?” I demand.
“Sophie Devaraux, you are here because you carry special cargo that the witches of New Orleans need.” she says with a malice intent in her eyes. What the fuck is she talking about?
“What the hell are you talking about?” I say with fury while staring her in the eyes..
“Before my sister died she had a special talent of knowing when a woman is pregnant,” Sophie said.
Fuck. Sophie is hunched over and her eyes are a little bloodshot. If her sister is really dead, the way she is acting is as if she was her only family, meaning she has nothing to lose now. People who have nothing to lose are the most dangerous people, and if what she is saying is true, then I am even more fucked. I can’t believe I didn’t even notice, I guess that would make sense then why I haven’t felt any pain. I was almost 100% sure that Nik was my soulmate, until I woke up in the morning and realized he wasn’t there. I was so sad, I almost cried. The sex was amazing, he was an amazing talker and it seemed like we really connected, but when I woke up without him and left him a note with my number with no response, I just assumed it was a fluke.
“What the hell are you saying right now? There is no way that I am pregnant, sorry but you have the wrong girl. Even if I was, why the hell is my baby so special?”
“No, you are definitely the right girl, there are only so many succubus’ in NOLA. My sister did not die for anything! You are also the only succubus to be impregnated by an original vampire,” she says with disdain.
Fuck, fuck, FUCK!! I thought I saw something weird in his aura, but he said all the right things at the right time, and all the tingles were there.
“Wonderful, now let me the fuck out of here now. I may be carrying an original baby, but you messed with the wrong girl,” I say with sarcasm and anger. As I look into Sophie’s eyes I try to let my aura do the work. If I can connect my aura with hers, then I can make her feel like she needs to protect me and help me, but for some reason I can’t seem to feel anything. I can see her aura, but I cannot seem to make hers connect with mine, in fact I can’t even feel what she or anyone around me feels. I haven’t noticed because I was so busy trying to figure out what the hell I am doing here.
“What have you done to me?” I say trying to fake anger, but in reality I am very scared. I haven’t been this vulnerable since I was human, and there was a reason I sold my soul to be what I am today.
“While my sister was doing the spell to make sure you were pregnant with the original hybrids baby, I did a spell that bound your powers, you are now average like the rest of the human population, and a little something else” Sophie says with malice and a smirk on her face.
“What else?” I say with fury dripping into every one of my words.
“What the fuck have you done to me, bitch?! I will kill you when this is over, my face will be the last one you see before the darkness takes over!” I yell at her.
“Well before that can happen, our guest has arrived,” Sophie says with a sense of calmness, but I can see in her aura that she has a twinge of scaredness.
Who the fuck is she talking about now? I swear to God, I am so done with this all. I found I am pregnant, I am not a full succubus anymore, and now I am trapped with the witches. God knows what else means to Sophie in terms of what she has done to me! Even though I just found out that I am pregnant, I cannot help but feel connected to the baby already.
I rub my stomach while thinking this baby is the only positive thing that has happened to me tonight. I always dreamed of having a big family with my soulmate or soulmates. My dreams didn’t necessarily have this exact scenario, but oh well this baby will be taken care of that they will never have to go through what I did. As I continue to daydream about my baby and if I will ever be able to find Nik again, I am interrupted by a pair of witches.
“Get up!” one of the henchmen demands.
“Excuse you, I am not going anywhere,” I say with a hand on my stomach.
Before I can say anything, I am grabbed by my upper arm, ripping my hand off my belly while being dragged out of whatever room they had me in. They take me to another area of whatever this place is, and I am confronted with a sight of a handsome man, oh dear not again.

Bonds
TITLE: Bonds
CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 2 / ?
AUTHOR: brightsun-and-darkmidnight
ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki assuming your nephew is your son. He’s not totally wrong, though, since you’ve been the boy’s legal guardian for a couple of years now. Plus, you do play a convincing “mother” role. (more to the imagine in link)
RATING:  M (Swearing, maybe some violence and MAYBE some smut)
NOTES/WARNINGS: I don’t want to give too much away but obviously adoption takes place.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: In Raelynn’s POV. Immediately set later in the day of when Raelynn saw Loki in the park at the end of the first chapter.
My Ao3: brightsun_and_darkmidnight
LENGTH: As usual I will try to keep to my 3,000 words per chapter.
*FINALLY..Read the warnings. Once you agree you can handle it...
 ~ ~ ENJOY  ~ ~
Raelynn sat at the table with Travis.
He was talking about the animals he played with at the park.
"The ducks really liked the pellets better than the bread. The squirrels couldn't talk much because they are getting ready for winter, could we get some nuts for them?"
Raelynn smiled, "yeah we could stop by the store tomorrow."
Travis looked at her odd. "You okay?"
Raelynn laughed a little. "I'm okay. Why would you say that?"
"Since seeing Loki you've been weird. You've told me how he is a good friend many times before, but thats the first time I've actually seen you two talking…"
Raelynn shrugged, "Just sort of fell out of contact is all. It was nice seeing him today though."
"Would you want to see him again?"
Raelynn's heart leaped at patching things with him and maybe telling him her own confession.
Then her heart crushed itself with how she left him behind. How she would ignore him after a while.
Raelynn looked to Travis, her nephew.
She didn't confess to Loki due to having to take custody of him. A relationship with her was now a relationship with a child. It wasn't just about her anymore.
She shrugged with a tight smile, "we will just have to see what happens. Maybe we will see him again."
Travis shrugged standing up, taking his plate to the kitchen. "I hope so. Natasha is cool and all, but she's your only friend. You need more friends."
Raelynn was quick to her own defense, "I have other friends!"
Travis rolled his eyes, "my friends' parents don't count. You only have Natasha."
Raelynn watched Travis carefully, "Why such an interest in my friendships?"
Travis shrugged, "You always encourage me to make friends. But you only hang out with Nat."
Raelynn cleaned the table. "It's okay to have a few really good friends. Natasha is a really great friend." Raelynn chuckled and ruffled his hair, "Don't worry about me Kido."
Travis pushed her hand away with a laugh, "stop that."
Raelynn ruffled his hair again. "Shower time. It's going to be past your bedtime by the time you are done."
Travis made a face, "Can't I shower in the morning?"
"I just cleaned your sheets a few days ago. Shower before bed."
Travis rolled his eyes, threw his head back dramatically as he turned towards the bathroom.
Raelynn typed a message to Natasha to see if she could call soon, then continued doing the dishes. Her phone went off from a message, but she waited until she heard the shower running to call Natasha.
Natasha answered quickly. "Hey, whats up?"
"I saw Loki today."
"Tell me more."
"I took Travis to the park today so he could feed the ducks. I sat on THE bench. Then Loki greeted me. It was nice. He met Travis today too. Obviously, since I took him there… He seemed really good with Travis…… anyway! Travis said I've been weird since seeing Loki and that I need more friends. Apparently, his friends' parents don't count."
Natasha chuckled a little. "Travis in the shower?"
Raelynn let out a few breaths of laughter. "Yes he is."
Natasha's grin could be heard. "So he was good with Travis?"
Raelynn sighed, rubbing her face. "Yes. I mean, I think? He was really nice to him. He was shocked at first, but he was very polite."
"I know you didn't want to put Loki in the situation at the beginning, but what do you think now?"
Raelynn inhaled deeply with a frustrated groan, "I don't know. I do wonder what it would have been like to have him there… but, It was extremely rough in the beginning. Poor Travis didn't understand what was going on. He was four when I got custody. You know how it was."
"I do. And you are a great mother figure for him."
"I swear, if it wasn't for you to talk to and the help I got from Clint… I'd still be struggling. Well, worse than now."
Natasha perked up, "Laura is still waiting for you to bring Travis over again. You could drop him off and we could hang out."
"I don't know…"
"Raelynn. When have you had a day to yourself? You barely let the kid out of your sight. You have his friends come spend the night at your house. Has he ever stayed at a friend's house?"
Raelynn paused for a moment, "well no."
"I get you are his guardian now but you have to have some time to yourself. Time away from work, from motherly duties, from everything. We will get Tony to throw a party."
"I wasn't much for big crowds. I'm fine, I don't need to get out."
"Maybe some cuddle time with Loki?"
Raelynn blushed, remembering how Natasha would purposely wink at them when they would be cuddling on the common room couch. "I can practically see your wink and smirk. -That's never going to happen again anyway."
"Never know.. I know you daydreamed about it at least once today."
"Whatever Natasha."
Natasha laughed, making Raelynn smile.
She heard the shower shut off.
"Alright, I gotta get Travis to bed. You know he gives me a hard time getting up in the morning."
Again, Natasha's smirk could be heard as she sing-songed, "I bet Loki would read him to sleep."
Raelynn dreamed of that happening multiple times, but it would never.
"Goodnight Natasha."
"Try to have a goodnight. We can talk later. Night."
Raelynn set her phone on the counter with a sigh. She finished putting away the dishes when she heard Travis walk into the kitchen.
Raelynn turned with a smile, "Ready for a story?"
Travis yawned, "Yeah."
After reading to him and he was in the embrace of sleep, Raelynn showered and tried to rest as well.
With her alarm blaring loudly, she woke up slowly. Touching her alarm, it shut off and told her it was definitely time to wake up. She groaned getting out of bed, hating her mind for keeping her up. Getting up, she heard the multiple alarms for Travis, knowing he was still sleeping... Raelynn went to wake him up for the first time.
Between getting herself ready, she went into Travis' room every 5 minutes, and got the table ready for breakfast.
She went back into Travis' room and he was laying in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Raelynn sighed, "Come on Travis, get ready. You gotta eat and I gotta get you to school."
Travis sat up and swung his legs over. "Today is Friday, right?"
Raelynn nodded, "yes. You got the weekend off after today. Maybe your friends could come over?" She watched him get a little sadder. "Something wrong?"
"No."
"Travis, what's going on?"
"John is having a slumber party Saturday. And I know you wouldn't let me go, so I didn't ask."
Raelynn felt her stomach sink. "Maybe-"
"Just get out of my room. I don't want to hear any lies about a 'next time.'"
Raelynn turned slowly as she nibbled on her lip. She sighed heavily once sitting at the table. Knowing she was over protective, but acknowledging the issue did not stop her worrying. She rested her head in her hands, contemplating on what to do.
Travis sat down at the table with a huff, not saying anything.
The ride to school was quiet too.
Before he got out, Raelynn turned. "I'm sorry. I am just worried about you."
Travis jaw tightened, "I know."
"We will go to the store after I pick you up, get those nuts for the squirrels. Sound good?" Raelynn offered a smile.
Travis crossed his arms. "I guess."
Raelynn let her face fall. "Alright. Have a good day kido."
Travis left without a word, slamming the door.
Raelynn watched him go inside the school before sighing and going back home.
She felt terrible but also rightfully worried.
Travis was under her care now. She didn't want anything to happen to him and most importantly she didn't want him to feel unwanted. She also wanted him to have good friends and be able to talk to her.
She apparently had already made a wall of communication errors.
Raelynn rested her head on the steering wheel. Shut the car off but did not get out. "Fuck."
She dialed Natasha's number, hearing her voice after a ring.
"Travis admitted that there is a slumber party tomorrow night but didn't tell me because I would say no. I feel like an ass hole…"
Natasha sighed, "well. I get you want to make sure he feels wanted but I think you are holding on a little too tight. You gotta let the baby bird learn to fly."
Raelynn groaned. "But how?"
"You could buy one of those watches that is set up for tracking steps and hooked up for messages."
Raelynn tilted her head in thought. "Isn't that…. A little much?"
"You would feel more at peace with it and Travis would be able to have some breathing room."
Raelynn pushed her lips together. "I suppose."
"I could hang out with you tomorrow while he is with his friends?"
"That sounds nice…"
"You don't sound thrilled. He will be fine Rae."
"Okay. Okay. I am supposed to take him to the store to get nuts for the squirrels. I'll let him pick out his own tracking device."
Natasha laughed a little. "Well that's basically what it is."
Raelynn forced a nervous laugh. "Well first I need to call and make sure its okay for him to go. Ya know? He probably did not tell them he was going."
"Probably a good idea. I'll talk to you later. Call the parents."
Raelynn took a breath, looking at her phone. Anxiety took control of her mind and body, all the terrible scenarios and horrible questions of "what if" plaguing her mind. Her stomach felt ill at everything.
She couldn't back out now though.
Natasha wouldn't let her live it down…. As well as feeling bad for Travis.
Raelynn imagined how happy he might be, which settled a miniscule amount of worries.
Raelynn called the mother of John. Unfortunately for Raelynn it went well, John's mother was ecstatic to have Travis over. She promised everything was fine and he would have fun, apparently there were many activities planned for them. Of course Raelynn thanked her for the assurance he could spend the night.
"Yeah, I could pack a bag incase he does stay." Raelynn did not think it'd go that far.
After hanging up Raelynn sat at her computer, researching different ways to keep in contact with Travis. She assumed, but it was confirmed, Travis would need a better phone. His simple flip phone would not work. Perhaps she could just get him a smart phone? Raelynn sat back with a sigh. Travis lost things constantly, Ofcourse he would need the watch too. The watch would stay on him, not the phone.
She sat at her desk and decided to get some programming done for her clients while she waited for school to be over.
Once Raelynn had Travis in the car she held casual conversation with him, he was obviously upset. They got into the store, picked out some nuts for the squirrels and got a few other things for the house. Then Raelynn looked at the snacks in front of her.
"So I called John's mom…" Raelynn hid her smile at Travis' instant attention. "I asked if it was okay for you to go over for a little. She said she would love to have you over. There is something else we need to shop for though…"
Travis's smile was threatening to crack his face. "What?"
Raelynn put a box of new crackers to try in the cart. "Well… you know how I don't like you going too far. I'm going to get you a smart phone with a watch. I'm going to buy a watch for me too. The watches will show notifications like calls and texts so we can keep in contact."
Raelynn looked to Travis who was excited.
"I get a smart phone?"
"You need to promise me you will update me regularly."
"I promise!" Travis exclaimed as he held his pinky out.
Raelynn smiled as she wrapped her pinky around his. "Let's go to the electronic store. They'll have more options."
Travis took his pinky away with a raspberry blown. "You just wanna look at the new stuff."
Raelynn rolled her eyes with a grin. "Well duh."
They picked out watches, a new phone for Travis, and Raelynn made sure to get a case and glass screen protector for the phone. She might have purchased a new video game… or few.
Arriving home Raelynn felt uneasy as Travis was excited about his phone. She set it up for him and made sure the watches worked. Feeling a little better once notifications worked. Travis smiled widely as she gave him the new devices.
"If you have questions, just let me know. Phones are capable of a lot. But its mostly important you know messages and calls."
"I got that part Rae Rae. You showed me two times and made them the lock screen thingys. I promise to check in."
Raelynn looked to the watch, tapping into it with her own watch… At least it worked.
"Alright Kiddo. You ready for the park? Those squirrels will be excited."
Travis grinned, grabbing his jacket, "Ofcourse."
Raelynn let him play with his phone in peace in the car ride. Once at the park Travis excitedly gave squirrels a few nuts each. Then he saw a friend and showed them his phone. They seemed to exchange numbers and talked huddled together over the devices.
Raelynn sighed as she watched them. Tomorrow was going to be hell on her nerves.
"May I sit here?"
The voice was familiar, like a fond memory.
She smiled at Loki.
"You may."
He sat on the bench, making butterflies flutter out of control. Though he sat at a distance of a stranger, not like the treasured memories she had. Silence enveloped them, and awkward feelings weighed on Raelynn. The urge to grasp his hand was still fresh in her mind from over three years ago.
Loki sighed, "I admit, it has been a long time since I have sat on this specific bench."
Raelynn smiled, "they put a new playground over there. Travis likes the jungle gym."
Loki looked to the playground, then to Travis who was handing nuts to the squirrels with the friend. "Apparently the little critters too."
Raelynn grinned, "he loves animals. Very good with them too."
Loki's smile never left and his eyes were warm, "can he talk to them? Like you with electronics?"
Raelynn nodded, "yes he can. We come here often because he likes the animals that are here and the pets that pass through."
Raelynn smiled briefly then looked elsewhere out of the awkward silence. She played with her hair, longer since three years ago, it has been trimmed a few times and would be needing it done again.
"I. Uh. I'm sorry. I feel like it needed to be said."
Raelynn glanced at Loki who observed her with those gorgeous green eyes. With the look in his eyes, he was vulnerable, watching her carefully. Like in the past when he could only listen to her words of comfort. Raelynn sighed turning towards Loki, letting him know he had her attention and sincerity.
"I feel terrible that I treated you the way I did. I should have gave you the opportunity to be involved after I left. But I was a coward. I didn't want to…" Raelynn sighed as tears welled in her eyes. She looked away and blinked until the emotions passed enough to speak again. "Its not just me anymore. I have to take care of Travis now. And he has been my priority since the beginning. He still and will always be my priority. Sometimes his needs are met before most of my own, especially before any of my wants and desires. You are an amazing person, you did not deserve the way I treated you."
Loki slightly smiled. "I appreciate your apology. I fully understand children come first, they always should…"
Raelynn watched his tongue lick at his lips before they parted. His eyes showing many thoughts but his mouth told nothing. His mouth closed and Raelynn worried that was all he would say. He looked to his lap at his hand causing her to wonder if some thoughts were of his past.
"Perhaps… If you are willing -If its okay. We could try to start over? Be friends again."
Raelynn's heart leaped. He knew she was attached to Travis now and it couldn't hurt to get close to him again. ...Right? She smiled after a moment of staring at Loki for so long. "I would like that."
Loki smiled and his eyes lit up to a bright green. "I would too."
Raelynn glanced to Travis who met her stare, which faltered as he glanced to Loki. Then grinned, running off to the playground with his friend.
"He seems full of energy." Loki spoke seeing Travis running around.
Raelynn sat back on the bench. "Yeah. All the time. Except in the mornings. He is a completely different kid."
"I can agree that the mornings are not desirable."
Raelynn laughed, "I remember you were so grumpy before your morning tea."
Loki turned to her, "and I remember you, who insisted on talking my ear off despite my lack of tea. Every morning."
Raelynn shrugged with a smile. "By the time you would wake up I had two cups of coffee already. You were usually the last one awake."
"I still have no idea how you function on less sleep than I need. We would stay up until the same time before we went to bed. You would always be up before me."
Raelynn laughed at Loki's face of disgust and disbelief. "I don't know. I've never needed much rest."
Loki’s eyes softened and a sweet smile pulled his lips, making Raelynn smile back.
Nothing needed said. Their bond was back, and Raelynn pondered…
It never felt broken.

pt. 4 Go Home. Play Music. Feel Better. - Michael Cera Palin
“Ohoho, look who decided to show up,” you said to Tsukishima as he moved to sit beside you in the lecture hall.
Tsukishima gave you an exasperated look, “class didn’t even start yet. Also please don’t take on those idiots’ mannerisms.”
“Why not? I think it’s fun. And completely unrelated, but want to come to the store with me after class? Bokuto recommended me this hair gel and I’ve always wanted to try-”
“Please stop,” Tsukishima turned to face the front of the class as you broke out into quiet giggles.
“Seriously though, I didn’t get to eat breakfast this morning so I’m gonna get something at that cafe near our apartments if you want to join.”
This wasn’t a date. Tsukishima knew this. That didn’t stop his heart from beating a tad bit faster or the apples of his cheeks growing rosier.
Tsukishima shifted his arm to one of the uncomfortable arm rests of the seat, leaning his head against his hand to hopefully help cover any of the heat on his cheeks, “yeah, I’m down.”
“Cool,” from the corner of his eye, Tsukishima saw you give your own small smile as you turned to focus on the professor about to start the lecture.
This wasn’t a date.
~~~~~~
Class dragged on, but soon enough you and Tsukishima were making the short journey to the cafe.
“Did you finish the paper for that class?” Tsukishima asked.
“What paper?”
“The one he assigned last week? Due on Wednesday? The one on that civilization-”
“Wait, no, no, no. That paper’s due on the 18th.”
“y/n…” Tsukshima slowed his pace to look you in your eyes, “Wednesday is the 18th.”
You let a quiet “fuck” slip from your mouth as you faced forward, moving quickly to the cafe now only a few shops away, “then no, I haven’t even started it.”
“Yeah that seemed pretty obvious,” Tsukishima said with a smirk.
“He never mentioned it again! I can’t keep track of everything!”
“Yeah, not even the date apparently,” Tsukishima snickered, opening the door for the two of you.
“Alright, listen!” Tsukishima’s laugh only grew louder, “I thought this class was gonna be fun and easy, and now I have to write a paper in like two days. Disgusting,” your attentioned moved to the menu hanging above the register.
“It’s short, you’re being dramatic.”
“Fuck you,” Tsukishima let out a startled laugh while you moved forward to give your order and pay then stood off to the side waiting for Tsukishima to do the same.
Tsukishima silently pointed to a table off in the corner that was free, “what is your major anyway?” he said as the two of you settled down into the seats.
You told him your major with a small shrug, “Nothing too special, but I liked it in high school so I figured I’d just keep up with it. Are you actually archeology or are you also just in this class for the hell of it?”
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, “Yes, I’m an archeology major, but this class doesn’t count for much since it's pretty entry level.”
“So what you’re saying is that you’re good at this stuff?”
“I’m not writing your paper.” “I wouldn’t ask that!” you said with a frown, “I was wondering if you could at least help me though. Read it over, give me some advice, make sure it’ll give me a decent grade, stuff like that. Come on, I’ll make you cookies.”
Tsukishima paused for a moment, “What about a strawberry shortcake?”
“I mean I’ll have to go to the store…” Tsukishima continued to stare at you, “but fine! Yes, I’ll make you a strawberry shortcake, you bastard.” You mumbled the last part under your breath as you got up to get yours and Tsukishima’s orders.
Making a cake would be a small price to pay for a good grade in a class you honestly didn’t care about. Spending time with Tsukishima didn’t hurt either.
“Get as much of it done as you can tonight, I’m done with class pretty early tomorrow so we can work on it together at my place whenever you’re free,” Tsukishima gave you the short rundown as you place the food on the table.
“Why don’t we do it at my place? You have like three roommates. I have Yachi.”
“Good point, text me tomorrow when you’re good,” Tsukishima said with a small nod.
~~~
It was a little past one on tuesday when you decided to text Tsukishima.
To Tsukishima archeology:
hey im walking home now so feel free to come over whenever
From Tsukishima archeology:
alright ill be there soon
You slid your phone back into your pocket, trying to turn your focus on the music flowing through your headphones and not on the lanky blonde that would be spending the rest of the day in your apartment.
You saw Tsukishima at least three times a week and most of that time was spent alone with each other in class or recitation, but this was… different. You were going to be actually alone with the guy. No distractions from a professor or a friend or a cafe worker calling out names. And okay Tsukishima was mildly attractive… Okay he was attractive but you wouldn’t let that come between you and the new friend you made in the snarky asshole.
It's not like anything would happen anyway. Tsukishima definitely didn’t like you like that, and no amount of daydreaming him confessing to you would make it come true (even if it was a very nice daydream).
It wasn’t long before you made it up to your apartment. Yachi had a late class today so you weren’t expecting her back until tonight, hopefully after Tsukishima had already left. It wasn’t that you didn’t want Yachi to know… but Yachi had already been making assumptions and Tsukishima coming over to “do work” alone in your room would do nothing but feed her imagination (even if it was the truth).
In the middle of eating a quick snack, Tsukishima sent you a text saying he was at your building.
You scrambled down the staircase of your building to meet Tsukishima who was waiting (somewhat) patiently on the stoop of your building.
“Finally,” he muttered as you widened the door for him to pass.
“You gave me no warning! Should’ve left you out here longer.”
“Should I just leave then? Seems like you don’t want me here so I’ll just-”
You put your hands on Tsukishima’s back, pushing him further into the building, “Nope, you’re helping me. You already agreed, no backing out.”
Tsukishima let out a dramatic sigh, now trailing behind you, “Did you at least start it?”
“Yes, in fact, I did. Almost done too, just need one more paragraph to push me over the word minimum.”
“What am I supposed to do in the meantime? I thought I was just gonna read it over?” Tsukishima asked as you let him into your and Yachi’s apartment, leading him to your small kitchen table.
“I dunno, dude; do other homework, work on your own paper, pick an album to listen to,” you gestured lazily towards your bedroom door, “all my vinyl is in the crates to the right.”
You could tell Tsukishima tried very hard to hide his excitement, “well, I already submitted my paper,” he ‘casually’ slid his backpack off his shoulders and made his way to the door you just pointed out.
You followed him over, showing him the milk crates you were talking about, your record player sitting on the dresser nearby.
“If you're gonna be sitting here, I’ll work at my desk,” you gathered your laptop and the notebook you had used to organize your paper, settling at the small desk, “if you need any help let me know.”
Tsukishima gave you a small smile and proceeded to get down on the floor to sit cross legged, flipping through the crate closest to him.
The two of you continued in silence for a while until Tsukishima gave a light poke to your shoulder, a recognizable album in his hand.
“I’ve never actually used a record player, so can you…” he trailed off, pushing the album towards you.
You tried to contain your amusement. Tsukishima clearly did not want to be asking you this, but you were glad he took this route instead of trying it and scratching up your records.
“Yeah sure, good pick by the way,” you got up from your desk chair and took the album, sliding the sleeve out to get to the vinyl itself, this one in particular being a bright blue as opposed to the typical black.
You ran him through how to handle the records and how to work your particular player so he would be able to flip and change the records whenever, and soon enough the beginning of Just Friends’ album Nothing but Love began to play.
You smiled again, making your way back to your desk to finish up your paper while Tsukishima went back to sitting on your floor, alternating between listening to the music and playing on his phone.
By the time the album came to an end you placed your laptop in Tsukishima’s lap, “be gentle,” you said, moving to grab an album at random and replace the one coming to an end.
“I’m not gonna promise anything,” he replied, adjusting his glasses to begin reading your paper.
You wandered off to the kitchen for a glass of water, not wanting to be in the room while Tsukishima was judging your writing.
“It’s not that bad!” Tsukishima called from your room, you walked over to lean in the door frame, “I marked some stuff you should reword and you should probably include that thing he mentioned a while ago…” Tsukishima continued to talk about your paper, flipping through notes to bring up examples and point out which parts he found errors in.
“But not bad?” you questioned again with a small smile, taking your laptop back.
“Not great, but not bad,” he said getting up to get his own stuff from the kitchen.
“I’ll take it!” you took it as a win when you heard Tsukishima’s laughter from the other room.
~~~
It was well into the evening by now, Tsukishima had helped fully finalize your paper a while ago but the two of you continued to talk and do work in your room. At this point you knew Yachi was going to be here soon. You would have to kick Tsukishima out now if you didn’t want her to notice just how long the boy had spent here and that just seemed rude and unnecessary (plus you didn’t really want Tsukishima to go just yet).
“Did you want to just stay for dinner? Yachi said she's picking something up, so if you want anything speak now.”
Tsukishima paused shortly at your question, “where’s she stopping?”
You relayed your and Tsukishima’s order to Yachi hoping she’d get home soon so you could have a proper meal.
You and Tsukishima were back to the floor, sifting through albums and talking over the music in the background.
“I wish you had A Flourish and a Spoil,” Tsukishima said, examining the art of one particular album.
“By The Districts?” Tsukishima’s eyes darted over to you, making you laugh, “I have that one, just probably got misplaced if it’s not with the D’s,” you took a minute to think back to the last time you had listened to the album, trying to place where it currently was.
You hauled yourself up and went to your dresser. Beside your record player was a short stack of albums you had been listening to the other day but were too lazy at the time to properly put away. Sure enough, the dark album art peaked from the pile.
You took the whole stack over to your crates, passing the album to Tsukishima’s waiting hands.
“We’re listening to this next,” Tsukishima said, eyes roaming the back of the album, examining all the details.
“We can definitely do that,” you replied, sorting the albums, “but Yachi’s gonna be here soon so you good with waiting a little bit?”
He gave you a small nod and the two of you resumed your quiet activities with the current record coming to an end. It wasn’t long after you heard the apartment’s door open with Yachi making her presence known.
The three of you sat around the small kitchen table, eating your food and talking about your days. You tried to ignore all of Yachi’s “subtle” looks in favor of asking about the class she just got out of.
“I hate that it lets out so late!” Yachi complained, dropping her head to the table, “I’m so tired and the walk home gets scary in the dark.”
“You can always ask me or Yamaguchi to walk with you,” Tsukishima said, looking up from his food, “if you’re really anxious we really wouldn’t mind, it’s a short walk.”
“Tsukki!” Yachi let out a cry, tears gathering in her eyes, “don’t listen to them, you’re so sweet, I love you.”
“Wait, listen to who-” Yachi interrupted his questions by giving his stiff posture a hug, “what are people saying about me?”
Yachi continued her hug, Tsukishima slowly raising a hand to pat her back, “nothing, nothing, it doesn’t matter anyway.”
You laughed at Tsukishima’s confused and irked expression, clearly not knowing how to interpret Yachi’s words.
Yachi removed herself from Tsukishima, “well, I am exhausted, goodnight,” Yachi said, giving you both a smile.
“Goodnight, Yachi, see you tomorrow,” you said, Tsukishima giving his own goodnight before turning to look you in the eye.
“It’s time,” he said, quickly cleaning up your plates and then heading to your room.
You laughed as you trailed behind him. He was already setting up the vinyl so you settled on your bed, letting your back fall into the comforter sitting atop your mattress.
The opening beats of the first song gently filled your room, quiet enough to not disturb Yachi but loud enough that the thumping drums still hit in your chest. Tsukishima turned around and you patted the spot beside you. He seemed to hesitate for a second before making his way over, letting his body lay beside your own.
“I used to listen to this album all the time in high school,” Tsukishima said to the ceiling. You turned your head to look at his side profile, “I think at the time it was just cause I liked how it sounded,” he paused for a particular chorus to pass, “but now I actually listen to it.”
You turned your head back to the ceiling, “I get that. A lot of albums have changed meaning for me over the years. This always felt like a new beginning though.”
Tsukishima hummed beside you. You let the music fill the room, you and Tsukishima each focusing on the lyrics of each song and how one connected to another.
Side A came to its gentle end, so you got up to slowly flip it, not wanting to break the calm atmosphere your room held at the moment. You took your spot beside Tsukishima again, trying not to disturb him.
“God, this album slaps,” Tsukishima mumbled under his breath at the crescendo of the song, making you break out into a laugh. Tsukishima surprisingly let out a chuckle of his own, “what? You know it's true.”
“I know, I know,” you let your giggles peter out, “I feel like you have to save that for Young Blood though.”
“It can be applied in a variety of places, don’t go around constricting me.”
“Fair enough,” you smiled at him, scooting your legs further on the bed to get more comfortable.
Young Blood, as good of a song as it was, was eight minutes long and by the final words of it, you could feel yourself drifting. It started with just resting your eyes, but soon your body was trying to catch up on the lack of sleep.
As your mind was shutting down, you heard a soft snore beside you. I’ll deal with this tomorrow, you thought to yourself before succumbing to the warmth of your room and the body beside you, letting the final song of the album lull you to sleep.
