Never apologize for wearing what makes you comfortable and happy. Never apologize for choosing to live your best life. When I started high school, I had to choose clothes for the first time in 9 years. Before I went to a private catholic school and just had to deal with whatever uncomfortable hand me downs I had. My first months of school, I wore tshirts and jeans every day. I spent half my time in class feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. The collar of my shirt felt constricting, jeans were either too tight or too loose, nothing I wore felt right. I was hyper aware everyday of how my clothes were sitting on my body. I was used to this when wearing a uniform for 8 years but even my own clothes somehow weren't right. The first day I wore one of my "outfits" was for the crazy day at Spirit Week. I wore a lot of bright colored layered tank tops, skirts, leg/arm warmers, and some colorful hair pieces. For the first time I felt comfortable at school. I felt confident in my body. From that day on, I started wearing my own fashion. Rainbow pieces, skirts or tutus, tank tops with colorful jackets. I had always loved Harajuku fashion and I pulled most of my influences from that. Colorful spiky hair pieces, tons of necklaces and other accessories, lots of layers and colors. Each time I needed a confidence boost, I would do more, try a new outfit, do crazier makeup. It allowed me to express myself in a way I couldn't put words to. It has been 14 years since then and I have never looked back. I have never been happier. Wearing Harajuku fashion has given me thousands of memories and friends. It has given me confidence to follow my dreams. It has given me chances to meet my idols, be on TV, even meet famous people. It has opened the doors for my own shop, for new ventures. It has made countless dreams come true, ones I didn't even know I had until they happened.
