Doug Walker
Really scared that, because of his Smiling Friends appearance alongside the likes of fellow cringelords/friendly lolcows like Chills, the #ChangetheChannel buzz about Doug Walker and the people he's hurt is going to resurface in a new way --with people 'clapping back' with how Linkara or Allison Pregler or whoever else is "also cringe" and therefor what happened in 2018 is " nothing ". No one cares/should care that Doug Walker is "#cringe. That's not what people (in the know) were mad about back when and that's not what people are still mad at him for now. It's because,
in trying to deflect from drama he was in with his former employeefriends, Doug and his company publicly outed a dead person as a sexual predator, who's death and legacy they were protecting+monetizing, did NOT protect the victims of said predator, and all to make his critics at the time seem like the actual bad guys when in reality they, unlike Doug and co, didn't know.
and THEN Channel Awesome proudly acted like they had not only not done anything wrong for how they both protected and outed JewWario but also like they owed no apologies ever.
They (Doug and CA) went as far as to rope Double Toasted into this by having Brad Jones say on their show "Logan Paul filmed a dead body and he still has a career" and "apologize, even if you don't mean it". Brad and his wife went on to claim that the Not So Awesome crowd had doxxed and swatted him, which is an absolute lie.
No amount of badfaith Doug-reviews, Linkara barking back at RalphtheMovieMaker, Marzgurl's beef with Vic Mignogna or whoever in the breadtube sphere supported Keffals cuz they don't/didn't know of what she did compares to Channel Awesome.
Channel Awesome and the #NotsoAwesome stuff that went down in 2018 maybe started out as '' drama '' but through NO ONE's fault but CA's own it escalated into outright scandal where Channel Awesome is absolutely in the wrong. They (Doug, Brad Jones, all the rest of the CA team) should not be allowed cute cameos on any shows. They are not 'just as cringe' as whoever you were thinking of. They are cold-hearted egomaniacs who use and misuse other people.
In an age of fraudsters, criminals and every other streamer being some degree of awful predator or bigot, sure; maybe Channel Awesome being '' just '' complicit in hiding a predator and being a shitty friend/employer is 'small potatoes'. That doesn't mean it's okay.
If MrBeast gets flaq for existing, cr1tikal gets flaq for centrism, Vaush gets flaq for being Vaush and even Lindsay Ellis flaq for elitism, than you ought to hold Channel Awesome to that same standard.

back in probably 2014 i ran into thatguywiththeglasses at a dunkin donuts. He was driving a silver 2003 pontiac grand prix. I wish i could tell you i said something really killer to him but the truth is at the time i really liked his videos.
In retrospect, however, "I ran into thatguywiththeglasses at a dunkin donuts and he was driving a silver 2003 pontiac grand prix" feels like the most brutal takedown i could possibly come up with as a lie except its entirely true.

sorry but the way youtubers went from really bad channel awesome skits as a way to interact with one another as fictional characters in a fictional space, to making everything more reaslistic acting-wise but also fake in a funny sorta sitcom-y way. the evolution of youtube content creator acting, is good. I don't even know who DDW which stands for Douglas Darien Walker which is the full name of Doug, better known as thatguywiththeglasses, is anymore. What even is a youtube? Broadcast yourself(tm)? I don't even have a color tv. In fact, I've not lived on this earth since 399 bc, when nothing was going on except my brother Tony killed me with a rock because I said Socrates, uh, yeah, I did vote for his death.

sometimes i get worried that i'm too obnoxiously vocal and opinionated about games and stuff and can come off as a contrarian hipster but then i remember that back in the thatguywiththeglasses days spoony sold a t-shirt that was literally just a blank white shirt with "FINAL FANTASY VIII SUCKS" printed on it and i feel better about myself

recently i had a conversation with the hot guy at the comic shop about the thatguywiththeglasses hookerverse, a fanfic au from the tail end of the old livejournal days where we wrote channel awesome affiliates (the nostalgia critic, lindsey ellis, linkara, etc) as sex workers for some fucking reason.
i was talking about this one fic where a writer tries to process her feelings about religion through this very weird lens and hot comic book guy said 'I think that's the most sincere art there is. When your biggest possible audience is like 6 people on a dying blog site, you probably can't help putting that much of yourself into your work. It's honestly kind of beautiful.'

Reading through the updates on the Lily Orchard critical tag it appears that "grooming" (according to Skeleton-bats-something) = agreeing with someone's opinion or perspective now.
Not the actual grooming Lily Orchard herself has been accused of (sexual or otherwise). Being persuaded or listening to a person trying to inform you of their view = grooming now. Okay.
So yeah that means all the vetted fundraiser accounts I follow, Decolonizetheleft, Quinton Reviews, Breadtube, all the former ThatGuyWiththeGlasses reviewers have all 'groomed' me, I guess. I have been groomed by Sai scribbles for agreeing with some of her takes despite not following her. She's groomed me despite us never having talked. Also, btw anyone who still likes VivziePop stuff is being groomed by her and Spindlehorse. That's how it works now.
(this is why heavy words and loaded topics need to be handled by people who know what they're doing. Maybe don't address something as 'grooming' unless you can tell grooming is going on, especially not to victims of it)

I've been watching a lot of Todd in the Shadows lately, and I can't figure out why I'm so entertained but I am.
His stuff is so different from the other former Channel Awesome hosts. He's not really playing an OTT character like Linkara, or Doug Walker with the Nostalgia Critic, or Brad Jones with the Cinema Snob. Or, to a lesser extent, The Dom and Phelous. If he's closer to anyone else from the channel, it's probably Luke from Rocked in that both are just genuine music fans that have very honest opinions. But there's something about Todd's scathing sarcasm that I just find delightful.

He...does. Which is kinda why his video isn't very good. It feels mainly like an attempt to ride the Hbomb coattails. Like, let's be clear, his pop music reviews also aren't very good (what finally made me lose all respect for him as a reviewer was when he said that Childish Gambino's "This is America" was getting too much credit for being serious art about race because he remembered Donald Glover from when he did internet comedy skits), but an actual takedown video is not in his wheelhouse.
But yeah, Hbomb is in many ways a reformed debate bro. Todd is a man who built his brand off of whining about Justin Bieber. Considering he says he's had this video in the can for months waiting for Hbomb's to come out, it's not very polished or good. The biggest issue is that he frames it as a list of "times this guy has lied" and then as he goes through them he has to admit, "I actually can't prove a negative, there are a few times he's contradicted established facts but a lot more where he's said something that I just can't confirm despite looking very hard"
Like, his video is more accurately a list of him saying "citation needed", but he vastly oversells his hand and what he's actually got on the guy because the way he makes videos is still very much informed by his history of his time on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses and the "angry" review style. It feels kinda in bad taste to me, frankly.
I thought Todd in the Shadows just reviewed pop music and the like

Nostalgia Critic really was the backbone of thatguywiththeglasses, for more than just namesake. For over 10 years he had made a new movie review every week or 2 weeks, meanwhile other critics had more lax schedules and more time to put in their videos for research. So people would come to the website every week for NC and see in the sidebar another critic had made a new review with a wacky thumbnail. So when Doug decided to end the NC without telling anyone it basically meant people wouldn't be coming weekly to see new critics because even critics heavily featured in crossovers with the Nostalgia Critic didn't have nearly as consistent schedules.

#ChangeTheChannel
While I am a fan of many bands, there is another fandom I am more actively involved in. A fandom that felt as inconsistent as any bands’ fanbase is but for a cause built on community involvement. I have been a fan of Channel Awesome since it was still called ThatGuyWithTheGlasses. The site introduced me to a broad range of interesting reviewers. Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic) helped me both relive nostalgia and take a look at 80s/90s American nostalgia. Todd In The Shadows taught me a lot about music which has helped me understand why I like or dislike songs. Tony Goldmark (Some Jerk With a Camera) amazed me with the end of his Escape From Tomorrow review. Allison Pregler (Obscurus Lupa) introduces me to The Evil Dead. Lindsay Ellis (former Nostalgia Chick) completely reformed my approach to and understanding of film analysis. These people changed my approach to film, TV, music and more.
It was therefore a shame when Allison and Phelan left. At the time, I didn’t get too invested in why they left because I often overlook drama. Then Lindsay left and my understanding was that she didn’t want to be a female counterpart to somebody else anymore. In the last month, the truth about what is happening/has happened at Channel Awesome is being revealed and it is no longer right to blindly defend the site. Their history of mistreatment and double standards can’t be overlooked anymore but those involved are refusing to discuss it via blocking people and removing posts on the Official Channel Awesome Facebook Group. The information released so far regarding CEO Mike Michaud cannot be overlooked out of ignorance anymore.
With today’s news of Linkara and Suede leaving the site after revealing more of the site’s history, it is the slow end to the site that gave us so much but at the cost of those it lead us too. Todd in the Shadows is gone from the site as of this week, Kaylyn Saucedo (Marzgurl) left some time ago and has played a major role in bringing a voice to this movement alongside Allison, Lindsay, Jacob Chapman, Holly Christine and more. It appears to be the beginning of the end of the site and one can only hope that those who are unable to leave find success when the site does fall. To the countless reviewers fighting to be listened to right now, the site promised a community. If it has failed to provide that, the fans will build it instead. Those who stand by you are not going away.
