^^^^ I highly recommend you guys to check this post right here !
It explains in detail who (and/or what) is Bloody Bunny, what's currently going on with 2Spot, and the speculation on why the Dark Rabbit DLC is still late actually does make sense !
So shout out to @thatbloodybunnyfan !
Bloody Bunny, Dark Rabbit DLC, 2Spot Studios news/speculation
Tldr; a brain dump containing some background on Bloody Bunny, speculation on the very late Dark Rabbit dlc for the switch game, and what could be happening at BB's parent company, 2Spot Studio. The main questions we're asking are: who is Bloody Bunny, what's going on with the dlc, and what is 2Spot trying to do with their character?
(might wanna grab a snack, it's a long one)
Sorta speculating on why 2Spot seems to be down on hard times and why they're not releasing the DR DLC.
Now first of all, the most important thing to know about their darling face of the company, Bloody Bunny, is that she was a character created to sell to a specific niche that caters to "cute with edge" fans of a certain demographic. This character has been around since over a decade ago and going on 2 decades in a few more years, going by the oldest BB material uploaded to youtube. She could be older than this. So she was made to be an appeal character not unlike Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma, and other sort of mascot types.
I believe what happened was BB wasn't fortunate enough to blow up and be profitable in the manner 2Spot wanted and their marketing tactics were quite expensive; opening a character store/café in their place of origin (Thailand) to large scale character photo kiosks also only seen there, and recently some high budget animation and of course the video game based on that. Before the latter two, they also were involved in at least 2 other animated shows, being "Bloody Bunny: Don't Be My Enemy" and the Ayupan crossover featuring a different character, Ayupan.
I'm unsure of the current state of 2Spot right now, but am aware they've gotten into selling nfts and cryptocurrency* (*BONY coin; unconfirmed) based on their Bloody Bunny characters, which is pretty bad. As we've seen, crypto ultimately is a highly unreliable and characteristically volatile business venture, the likes only people trying to make money end up doing. I can only come to the theoretical conclusion that 2Spot have gotten pretty desperate at this point with their decade+ old character/IP failing to make a decent return on investment, which could be why they've headed into nfts now.
Perhaps the company once had the budget for all the marketing up until now and may be on the verge of defaulting, which could possibly be a reason why the promised Dark Rabbit dlc for their Bloody Bunny game has not released in the 2 years since the game's debut and subsequent dlc announcement. They could be unable to afford the rest of the game, basically.
This is all just my theorizing and speculation, but if all this is true, it's a shame because the dlc looked promising and honestly i adore Bloody Bunny. 2Spot created her long ago and never stopped believing in her and the potential she has to be a well known character. It's more than evident in how long they've tried to market her and the vast amount of iterations she's had over the years.
I must make note of what i reckon is the high point of BB's marketing, which most definitely was the Riff Studio animated feature and the game based off of it. They reached acclaim the likes of which I think their other marketing efforts didn't. I never didn't enjoy the statement both the new animation and game made, which was essentially Bloody Bunny is the best character. You could see it almost like a bold take of 2Spot vs Sanrio vs Hasbro vs San-x, (Bloody Bunny vs Hello Kitty/Bye-Bye Kitten vs My Little Pony/Razor Mane vs Rilakkuma/Serious Kuma) with obvious references to Disney and others in the mix (evil Winnie the Pooh dolls, Dizzyland, Kikkys/Skull Minions resembling Mickey Mouse, evil Teletubby dolls, etc) And hell, the fact the only character who could hold their own against Bloody Bunny was an evil version of herself (Dark Rabbit, also by 2Spot) is saying something, though both bunnies themselves take quite a bit from shonen anime tropes. I just really love the message they were getting across about the characters and it reminded me so much of the old Ty the Tasmanian Tiger ad where Ty put Spyro, Crash, Sonic, and other well known video game characters in the hospital and visited to intimidate them. Such a fuckin jock thing i find highly enjoyable, and from Ty's success, it clearly works as effective marketing. Ty went on to have 3 amazing 3D games and a fourth, 2D game from actually giving its ad credence by being a really good game/franchise on levels with Crash and the others. Suppose the difference is Ty wasn't an appeal/gimmick character, but a game character with more content backing him. But maybe one could argue that there are other games that didn't quite land, similar to Bloody Bunny not landing as an appeal character, but i compared Ty and BB solely from a piece of their respective marketing that struck me as alike; Ty beating up other characters and BB doing the same, giving a clear message that they're the better characters. It's bold and i live for that energy 100%.
I think 2Spot went the right direction incorporating this attitude into BB, but it seems BB is failing to meet their needs as a company despite all the attempts and effort to put her out there. I'll end this speculation piece by declaring my loyalty to this character and a promise that if her owners end up losing her, there is a good place for her to go. I still believe in Bloody Bunny just like 2Spot does and have believed in her ever since first sight. She has great potential and more than has the audience to catapult her into the mainstream, but hopefully also has the fortune to get to where she must be.
P.S. i would LOVE to be proven wrong on any aspects of these theories just so we all have the correct information. I'll reiterate that this is all speculation and although the BB marketing materials all exist as well as the nfts, the motives i mentioned here for them aren't necessarily the actual ones. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes at 2Spot and their associations and i know there's BB fans playing the game who want their DLC, myself included. If i could shed even some speculative light on Bloody Bunny's frankly convoluted history and whereabouts, i think it'd be helpful to BB fans.
This was quite a lot so if you made it this far, thank you so much for reading !!!!!!!!!!! If you like Bloody Bunny and want her to do well, feel free to spread the word.
As for this blog, I'll be posting mainly game clips harvested from my copy of the game throughout the year as well as other BB goodies in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit (2023). If that's your fancy, then stay tuned!
Until then, bloody bunnies. Thanks again!
