I am forever moderately amused by the fact that I have a biology degree but somehow wound up with a biologist OC whose specialty is not at all what mine is.

like, don't get me wrong, I love amphibians and reptiles. I used to volunteer for a summer camp where I got to show off amphibians and reptiles to kids and tell them all about the creepy crawly critters.

but my specialty is microorganisms. the macroorganisms I've done the most schooling in are invertebrates, in particular molluscs. which are not the purview of a herpetologist.

but character development just sort of happened and now I have a herpetologist OC.

Wanted to add on to the "Gabby avoiding sleep at all costs" thing with doodles I had made earlier today oop

TWs - SH (technically), blood, panic attack

... Gabby has reoccurring nightmares after the events of Chapter 3. He can't get out of his head the face he saw in that one tape while he was hallucinating... And it doesn't help that his mind keeps twisting it into something worse and worse every time.

He wakes up in a cold sweat. Trembling. Breathing heavily. His heart thumping hard in his chest. And he wants to scream and sob. But he can't. He doesn't want to wake up the kids.

He's found... Ways to cope. Even if they aren't the safest. It hurts for a while, but at least the toys get the rest that they need.

So uh ... Yeah. When he does get some rest, it's... Usually short-lived. He really tries his hardest to hide it from the kids, not wanting to put another burden on their shoulders, but uh...

Yeah. Catnap ain't having any of that bullshit.

Edit : I'm realizing how ironic it is that Catnap is the one that knows about Gabby's nightmares and wants to make sure he gets rest when he was literally the being behind said nightmares in the first place 💀

Finally revealing one of my other blorbos, Niccolo Sonata! A mixed genre troll who poses as a Pop Idol up until world tour

He's a complicated bag, he's half rock half classical, his mother kind of low-key hates him, and his dad does care but is kind of paralyzed with various anxieties that comes with the fact that Niccolo is half classical (worried about his constitution and his wings) and things related to his mother (she doesn't want Niccolo to become like his dad and puts a lot of restrictions on him)

Both of his parents don't really know what to do with him, and he doesn't know what to do with himself.

He has a lot of internalized hatred towards himself and the two sides of his musical families, plus he is a secret third genre (symphonic rock) which he doesn't fully understand. He got picked on a bit in Volcano Rock City, they're a lot rougher than he's used to so he just kind of took it, which is why he looks so roughed up in one pic and the other he says they hate him in VRC

Again he's really complicated even tho he doesn't look it, if you have questions about him lmk

The family was out traveling while Rhonda rested at their nearby shelter. Jade and Lief conspired amongst themselves to get John Dory a surprise gift for his upcoming birthday. They journeyed alone to gather the materials to craft said gift and ran into... A problem shall we say.

It's late at night when Lief finally returns to their campsite, alone, a massive gash on his forehead and a strip of cloth from Jade's dress.

When asked exactly what happened Lief can't fully remember due to his injury, all he knows is that Jade is the reason he's still alive now, and he feels fully responsible for her disappearance.

From this point forth John Dory doesn't allow Lief to travel without him for fear that he'd lose his son like they'd lost Jade, believing her to be dead after he was unable to find her out in the woods.

And so they continue to travel with the slight hope of finding Jade, but moreso in finding where the Pop trolls have now settled, some rumors going around that they may still be alive somewhere in the dense forest...
