When the male hashira remember they have rights and proceed to yell the most absurd thing and when they look back at their s/o their s/o is running away like they don’t them
This was a bit confusing but I hope I was able to capture what you meant;
| Freedom of speech |
Featuring; Shinazugawa Sanemi, Tomioka Giyuu, Iguro Obanai, Gyomei Himejima, Kyojuro Rengoku and Uzui Tengen.
Shinazugawa Sanemi
It wasn't uncommon for Sanemi to yell. He was a bonehead, after all, and true to his nature, the things he yelled were often absurd and completely unprovoked.
Whenever he did, you'd glare at him, hiding your face in embarrassment, while he’d scoff and swing his sword over his shoulder.
"I can do whatever I want," he’d shrug.
Today, however, was your breaking point.
As you walked down the street together on your way back from the market, Sanemi abruptly stopped and yelled at the top of his lungs, "I’LL TAKE ON ANYONE WHO SAYS PINEAPPLES DON’T BELONG ON PIZZA! COME ON!" His sword was out, waving it around invitingly at imaginary challengers.
Before he could even turn to you for backup, you were already halfway down the street, distancing yourself from him as fast as possible.
"He's not with me…" you muttered to the curious onlookers, speed-walking away from him at an inhuman pace.
Tomioka Giyuu
Giyuu was socially awkward, painfully so. Whenever your friends came around, he’d retreat to his room and wait for them to leave so he could hang out with you again.
Sometimes, though, he’d get bored and hang around the hallway to snoop in on your conversations. “Eavesdropping? I was just patrolling the house, Y/N…”
“What…?”
One day, he overheard your friends gossiping about him.
"Your boyfriend's pretty weird, Y/N…"
"Oh, come on, guys. He's just introverted."
"Still, you should be careful. He looks like the social-recluse, no-friends, ends up murdering you type."
Out of all the things they said, the words no friends echoed in his mind for the rest of the day.
By the time the two of you went on your evening stroll, the tension had built up so much that he suddenly stopped, startling the few people nearby.
"I HAVE FRIENDS!" he yelled, his voice loud and firm.
The onlookers gave him strange looks before continuing their strolls.
You sighed and cringed, grabbing his arm. "Stop eavesdropping on my conversations, Yuu…"
Iguro Obanai
Sightseeing with Obanai was supposed to be a quiet, pleasant activity. With Kaburamaru draped over his shoulder, he was unrecognizable to the townspeople in the secluded tourist city.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at the look of shock on his face when people bumped into him on the busy streets, shoving past without even apologizing. Back home, no one dared get within six feet of him, let alone touch him.
"Welcome to the life of a regular person, Guro…" you teased, grinning.
He narrowed his eyes at you, clearly unimpressed.
But when someone pushed past him so hard that he stumbled to the ground, his patience snapped. Hashira conduct be damned.
"YOU FOOLS HAVE NO SPATIAL AWARENESS!" he roared, standing up. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING BEFORE I MAKE YOU REGRET IT!"
The street froze in silence as everyone stared at him. Dusting himself off, Obanai adjusted his haori and glared back at the onlookers.
When he turned to look for you, you were already across the street, wearing sunglasses and shaking your head.
"We’re letting the crazies in now?" you whispered to a nearby stranger, who nodded in agreement.
Gyomei Himejima
You rarely got to see Gyomei like this, but on the rare occasion he fell sick, it was like he became an entirely different person.
Delirious and feverish, he clung to you like a lifeline, spouting random phrases that ranged from philosophical musings to utter nonsense in an entirely different language.
"Anima mea tuam desiderat," he murmured one moment, his voice full of emotion.
"Oh, Gyo…" you sighed, brushing his hair back fondly.
Eventually, you realized this was out of your control and decided to take him to Shinobu. It took eleven of her assistants and you to haul his enormous frame to the Butterfly Mansion.
As you sat by his bedside, you sneezed from the overwhelming smell of medicinal herbs.
"Excuse me," you mumbled, wiping your nose.
Gyomei suddenly bolted upright, his voice booming "THE SOUND OF Y/N'S SNEEZES BRINGS ME PEACE!"
You froze as the assistants burst into barely contained giggles.
Horrified, you sank lower into your chair. But when you looked over at his delirious, innocent smile, you couldn’t help but smile back at your poor sick baby.
"You know what? Hell yeah," you said, leaning back in your chair.
Kyojuro Rengoku
You knew what you were signing up for when you dragged Kyojuro to the local festival. Excitable and loud, he had a tendency to make everything an event.
What you didn’t anticipate, though, was how far he’d take it this time.
As he bit into a skewer of dango, he suddenly stopped, turned to the crowd, and yelled at the top of his lungs "DELICIOUS! BUT NOT AS DELICIOUS AS MY BELOVED Y/N!"
The crowd immediately erupted into “aww”s and applause. Some even started whispering about how lucky you were.
Mortified, you grabbed his arm, trying to tug him away. "Oh my gosh, Kyojuro, why?"
But his boisterous laughter only drew more attention.
“I only speak the truth, my love!” he declared, pointing dramatically toward the festival lights.
By the time you managed to drag him away, you would never bring him to another festival.
Uzui Tengen
He's had too much to drink again, everyone in the restaurant has been giving you dirty looks for the past twenty minutes.
"Uzui please...this a public space"
He ignores you, laughing louder at his own stupid joke he made earlier.
"Its true y/n! I would dog walk all the hashira! especially Tomioka, he looks very subservient!"
The restaurant went dead silent.
People stared at him, unsure whether to be horrified or amused.
By the time he turned to look for you, you had already scooted your chair over to another table.
The man you were now sitting next to gave you a questioning look.
"I have no idea who he is," you said flatly, refusing to meet Tengen’s gaze.
Omg, ya'll wouldn't believe the amount of time I spent thinking up ways for them to yell absurd things but still be in character. Because lets be for real, in what world would Gyomei yell out something like that if he wasn't not in his right mind 😭

see youve been doing a lotta theboys ship reqs recently HUGE kudos to u got damn, and i love how u write them sm !! hope u dont mind one more ^^ (fine w p much anyone except homelander or deep)
im an anxiety-ridden autistic bi british tguy with a pretty hefty male lean, 5'6"-ish, long hair thats shaved on one side , lotsa face piercings , pretty hairy , scruffy jaw , got a "would be a bear if i hit the gym more often" kinda build . i wear shades 24/7 bc i hate eye contact and bright lights . i generally dont bother picking out an outfit but when i do i lean towards a kinda 50s greaser vibe even tho i dont have a bike or anything
im a recluse and not particularly social , i end most conversations quickly but politely tho i dont let myself get walked over . i do like going for walks , particularly walking my cat , or otherwise hauling something around , its a good workout , but most of the time im indoors and just drawing/animating (what im attending uni for) or playing games . i prefer talking online to in person cause of low social battery , even for family n close friends .
im insecure but otherwise i think j have pretty good self-esteem , and tho im not diagnosed im like 95% sure ive got covert narcissism , i see most people as below me in some way but i dont express this obviously . a lack of attention , particularly online , is distressing and upsetting , and i get defensive very easy . i THRIVE on the feeling of caring for or protecting someone both bc it feeds this and is the only time i can power through my social anxiety .
uhhh cat lover , marine life lover , would spend the rest of my life in an aquarium , would rather be a shark than a human , dont like getting dressed if i dont have to , nail biter , dragon fanatic , would probably be a supe given the chance
hope thats not too much , and thank you !
Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope you like this. ♡
I ship you with...
Frenchie ♡
Boyfriend
GIF Source: @samuelroukin ★ (link)
You and Frenchie meet while you're walking your cat. Frenchie is a huge cat guy (I will die on this hill), and though he hasn't had any of his own since his early twenties, he still makes it his mission to interact with them as much as he can. Cat on the street? Gets pet. Cat in those windows of veterinary offices that you can walk into if you don't seem too shady? Gets pet. Cat in a house the coup is raiding? Gets pet, and moved to a safer location.
So, when he sees your cat being walked, the dude has to go over. Plus, not gonna lie, even in NYC, it's pretty uncommon to see cats being walked, especially down the street that the boys' hideout is located on.
He uses small talk to warm up the awkwardness that comes with a random French man coming up on the street to pet your cat, and eventually asks if you'd ever want to go on a walk sometime. While he initially had his eyes set on your cat, when the guy looked up at you, he immediately saw that you're really, really cute. He has a weakness for facial piercings and for general "scruffiness", so add that on to the cat and the general reservedness? Bro's set.
Through that, you start hanging out a lot and getting to know each other. Frenchie's not a texting person, so you two tend to call a lot, and have a lot of cute but low-key dates, like cooking meals for you at his apartment and playing video games.
And, on that note: Frenchie absolutely sucks at video games, but he has fun playing them with you. While Frenchie is very spatially aware in real life, he is not in online games — bro would get absolutely flamed in any CoD lobby — but would have a blast going through your video game of choice by your side.
You would have to help him with the controls... a lot... but it would be worth it.
Frenchie doesn't really believe in "rushing in" or "waiting too long"; he just makes it official once he feels like it's right. After 2 – 3 months with you, he'd ask if you'd like to be together upfront.
And, once you are: you two would be very, very happy together.
Frenchie's a very intuitive person, and while he wouldn't make any assumptions considering your diagnoses/suspected conditions (he's not about that life), he would catch on to your need for attention and care.
Since he's not really a texter, he'd either call you or send you voice notes to say good morning, good night, tell you about something that reminded him of you, etc.
Is your #1 fan concerning your art, and is endlessly in awe of what you do. He would constantly show your work off to the coup, and would definitely commission you for artwork when your schoolwork slowed down (no, he won't accept free shit, he will commission you, point-blank).
Considering Frenchie's been through a lot, you being a caring person and a "protector" would do wonders for the relationship. While Frenchie's a protective guy himself, the dude wants some time to slow down and be taken care of, and would love anything you did for him and reciprocate it completely.
Is a huge physical touch guy, and as long as you were fine with it, would always have an arm around you, his hand in yours, etc.
Also would definitely love to be the little spoon with you, especially because you're very close in height (he's about 5'8).
Is a big gift-giver, and would always purchase anything he saw that reminded him of you, whether it's a shark stuffed animal, or one of those seashell necklaces that street vendors sell.
Also, he's a bit freaked out about marine life — the vastness of the ocean really, really freaks him out, partially because of a near-drowning accident he had as a kid — but would always go to aquariums with you and try to find aquatic spaces to do stuff.
He would do the ocean, but as much as he loves you, he's probably gonna try limiting that to special occasions.
Would 100% spoil your cat, and if you were up for it, adopt one for you two to co-parent.
Also doesn't have many reservations about moving in "early" — again, timestamps aren't really too important to him — and would especially encourage it if it helped any student finances.
On that note, the guy cannot do structured and organized learning, so he would always brag about your postsecondary education and do everything to encourage you, whether it's bringing you your favorite snacks while working on end-of-the-year projects or rubbing your hands and back after finishing an art piece.
He wouldn't hide his work with the Boys from you, and honestly, would encourage you to get involved, particularly through artwork anti-Supe propaganda, especially aesthetic pleasing ones, have been lacking nowadays. He'd be open about his work and introduce you to the boys before you became official.
And that brings us to...
The Boys ☻
Friends
GIF Source: @yocalio ★ (link)
So, it's corny... but you and Butcher definitely both bond over both being British/from the U.K. You're one of very few people who were able to immediately understand both his accident and what he was referring to in British slang upon first meeting.
Plus, the guy likes you, even if he doesn't talk to you much. He respects reserved types a lot, and appreciates you leveling out Frenchie's chaos instead of blowing it up (...most of the time).
He wouldn't make an effort to get super close to you — let's be real, he's got a lot of shit to deal with — but would probably invite you out for drinks every once in a while.
A dealbreaker for Frenchie is whether you get along with Kimiko, and fortunately, you two do. While you're not extremely close — you're both pretty introverted, and Kimiko never wants to feel like she's prying — Kimiko really, really likes you, especially when she sees you drawing. She's quite the artist herself, and is fascinated by not only your amazing work, but by the fact you're going to college for it.
Whenever you stop by the hideout, she wouldn't communicate with you much, instead opting to just enjoy your company in silence.
And, if you bring art supplies, she would be so down to parallel-play with you and her drawing side-by-side. While she's not academically trained, she is extremely good at drawing landscapes, and would be very intrigued by your art, as mentioned.
Also would draw you as a present, which would be very cute, even if not fully anatomically correct.
M.M. would like you a lot — he vibes with the shades the first time he sees you — and I feel like you two would be the closest out of the coup. While him encouraging you to would be a bit... annoying... the guy really enjoys your company, and would bond over your shared love of cats.
Would also ask you a lot of questions about cats, because his cat is getting a bit too pudgy and might need to take some strolls downtown.
While you'd be close, he wouldn't ask to hang out with you too much outside of the coup, instead having most of your fun during late nights, considering he's so busy; he'd probably order a pizza for you, Frenchie, and Kimiko and talk with you, and play video games on the very rusty-crusty-dusty XBox that they got to placate Hughie.
Also: he's killer at FPS games, and if you play one with him, y'all will immediately become best friends.
Hughie, Annie, and you wouldn't be super close, but you wouldn't be on bad terms either.
Hughie, quite honestly, would be intimidated; as a ball of social anxiety who tends to seek out more talkative types (E.G. Robin and Annie), he tends to overthink with more quiet people who are less easy to read, and your shades can make it pretty hard for him.
However, your art would definitely lead him to talk to you more (albeitly awkwardly and only in passing), and, if you or Frenchie mention that you play video games... he would try engaging in a yap session with you.
Yes, yes, it's not a stereotypical, "cool guy" game, but Hughie is a huge fan of Minecraft — he's an excellent architect and has actually made tons of custom maps for people to download — so if you play either (or you don't give him a hard time about it), he'd open up to you a lot more.
As for Annie, she just... can't really get a vibe on you. She thinks you're a pleasant person and respects you (she has a lot of admiration for people who go into the arts), but she's someone who believes to be able to "vibe-check" people pretty easily, and because she can't on you, doesn't really know where to go from there.
She wouldn't want to pry, so she wouldn't push you to open up yourself, but if she got more glimmers of you — whether it's through overseeing you and Kimiko drawing, or catching you and M.M. playing on the XBox — she'd spark up a lot more conversations with you.

On bimbo harems:
Doesn't even need the bimbofication to reach that point, you get the same scenario in normal porn.
For bimbofication scenarios to be good they have to focus on the fact that the characters were changed by bimbofication, and the contrast between their old personality and their new exaggerated body, extreme sex drive, sluttier personality, possible IQ changes.
If you can cut out the pre-TF part of a bimbofication story and you can't tell from the remaining parts that it's bimbofication, it's useless.
/d/, 2021.
On IQ:
IQ tests are usually based on linguistic, spatial and mathematical intelligence, as well as logic puzzles. It's pretty common that people who're bad at these things have good intuition, social intelligence, musical intelligence, visual intelligence or what have you.
Whether or not you have cognitive impairments is decided not by an IQ test score, but by whether you are functional or not.
Someone with an IQ test result of 69 could be hopelessly inarticulate, their head might swim at simple multiplication or they might not be able to grok rotating 3D objects, but this does not mean they're not fun to be around, kind, well-socialized, with talent for art and with common sense.
Conversely, you could have someone with an IQ of 118 who's rotten at interpersonal cues, who has an aggressive and suspicious personality, who has no eye for beauty and who doesn't care for or about other people.
It's number 2 who'll be living in a dump and coming off as an actual retard and not number 1.
Intelligence is really wide, but seeing as it's mainly low linguistic and mathematical intelligence that gets people off here, you see a lot of low IQ scores [in bimbo transformation sequences].
/d/, 2019.
On IQ-2:
What I'm trying to say is that you can have someone who's "bimbo stupid" without actually having a retard who can't wipe their own ass, because low IQ doesn't necessarily suggest low functionality.
There's measurable intelligence and there's practical intelligence, and I think the perfect combination is someone who's dumb as a bag of sand but still has enough positive qualities and competences to be a functional adult if only by the skin of their teeth.
/d/, 2019.
On IQ-3:
IQ measuring is hard to do in a scientifically responsible way due to fundamental differences in conception of intelligence and the immense variation in practical intelligence not just down to the individual but also the situation.
Add to that the instinctive human desire of "Grug have bigger brain than you", and you have a volatile cocktail where no one even agrees what it is they're actually supposed to be studying.
/d/, 2019.
On intelligence loss:
I really like emphasizing the loss of intelligence as that has been the one consistent aspect of the fetish in writings about it going back over twenty years now. Though I personally like portraying it in a more cute fashion, I'm usually taken out of the writing when they start talking like cavemen instead of valley girls. I've written both "cartoonishly dumb" and "realistically dumb" bimbos and I love both. When writing the latter I usually end up making their personalities a little meaner, not always cruel but definitely less considerate, and make sure to emphasize a growing interest in vapid things. Though it's not uncommon for both versions to come out saccharine sweet trophy wives. The cartoonish camp is often written with an awareness of their stupidity while the realistic camp is not.
/d/, 2021.
On the portrayal of stupidity:
I do like the dumb bimbo stereotype, but more like "you got the answer wrong but you did all the math right" dumb. Like capital of Texas is T dumb. Stupid, but understandable.
/d/, 2021.
On writing bimbospeak:
Avoid words with more then two syllables, use slang whenever possible, always use sexual innuendos and slang where possible, you seem to have the California valley twang accent in mind already which is good.
/d/, 2021.
On bimbo appearance:
Fake/Big tits are not required for a bimbo you goddamned coomer. It’s part of the core aesthetic but it’s not REQUIRED. Just like a tomboy doesn’t need to be muscular or have short hair, it’s about the soul of the thing… the essence of bimbosity.
/tv/, 2022.
On the appeal of fake tits:
It's a perverse act, they're obviously fake and cartoonish turning them into living sex dolls. It's all about self destructive decadence. I dunno how else to explain it.
/tv/, 2020.
On interacting with/picking up bimbos:
Contrary to popular belief, it's actually not that hard, nor it requires some special amounts of money or high status. Sure, these things help, but that applies for all women. Bimbos are still somewhat of a no-no in society eye's and are usually happy for an actual honest interest beyond their looks. I would even go that far and say that bimbos are easier to get for relationship if you know what you are doing. Also from experience, these girls are usually more direct, honest but also with way more drama.
I used to fuck a lot of bimbo hookers in Singapore. They love chit chatting. You treat them human and their eyes light back up.
/tv/, 2020.

🍐 : how intelligent is my muse overall? are they smarter than the average person, or less than? are they primarily self-taught, or did they acquire most of their knowledge in school? are they more street smart or book smart?
Fruity Headcannons || Accepting
Dan's an individual who thinks he's less smart than he is, constantly bashing himself in this department. He's not 'smart' and his IQ is nothing special and the lack of a formal education seriously didn't help him develop in the slightest. So its safe to say he's far from book smart and compared to the average person some might assume he's as thick as a brick with how out of touch he usually is with day to day details.
However a fact he tends to ignore is that most if not all life skills he learned were self taught via survival instincts, when something failed, he'd try and try again until it was satisfactory knowing that he'd be in danger if he let it be. Once he eventually began trying to adapt to society, while he was still self reliant to learn it was mostly a case of him trying to mimic motions and actions he'd see others do. In fact its how he learned how to write, copying hand motions from others he watched. He didn't understand the words written most of the time not until he had someone explain things to him.
As a result Dan is a strong spatial learner. able to quickly learn and adapt to most things with a visual aid, especially in physical actions with his ability to mimic people's motions pretty decently. In other cases even if he doesn't understand something entirely, he'll usually try to apply his own form of logic to fill the gaps. So its not uncommon for him to pick up some skills with their fundamentals incredibly quickly only to then mess it up and struggle to develop further past the basics because he's missing some core information from his own impatience or lack of understanding.
However if someone is taking the time to guide or explain things to him it goes a long way, so his ability to learn isn't something to be scoffed at. He'd be easily viewed by most as someone with no talents and yet he'd likely be able to reach a similar level of skill to an expert with the right guide assisting him. Especially considering he usually is always eager to learn something new though depending on the subject he won't be able to completely wrap his head around it. For example, He's fond of technology and the wonders it can do, yet he doesn't have the patience to learn the fancy 'gizmo jumbo' so he'd rather watch someone else make things and explain them to him, than attempt it himself.
During his years wandering mobius and the realms, he's come incredibly far in comparison to where he once was, now able to think, feel, act and most importantly understand most interactions even if he still doesn't agree with all of them. Yet his biggest issue in terms that hinder his 'intelligence' is his own confidence.
When he becomes convinced about something, its almost impossible to change his mind on the subject. Challenging him on it usually results in him shrugging off whatever objections someone may have and proceeding with it anyway, convinced this his way is the right way. This applies even to his day to day activities such as rules and laws, he views them more as guidelines rather than actual things he needs to obey at all times. After all they were made by regular people when they were created. Not someone like him, so suddenly whatever they're talking about doesn't apply to him and just going along with what they want is more of a gesture of common courtesy than mandatory.
If its within his own sense of 'reason' he'll happily break every law in the book without a care in the worst case scenario, after all, there's not too many people he's aware of that could make him stand down either through force or reason.
#path_of_the_lost#memes#chaosworthy#headcannons#(At his core he's a stubborn fool)#(But with some logic and adaptability at his side he's not an idiot either)

Heroes Never Die
Today’s the day.
The first thing that crosses Ochaco Uraraka’s mind as she is pulled from her deep slumber was those four words. Everything that she accomplished these past three years all was leading up to this very special day. Graduation. All of the blood, sweat, and tears were all worth it in her eyes. She’s finally going to walk across that stage, get handed her diploma by Principal Nezu, and walk her happy self back to her seat.
And damn that’s gonna feel so good.
She pulls herself from the comfort of her bed and commences her usual morning routine. As she’s finishing putting on her clothes, she notices that her phone has a notification. As she grabs it off her bedside table, she remembers that she doesn’t have a cheap flip-phone anymore, but a new-ish smartphone, courtesy of Momo. She fumbles with it, not used to how heavy and how big smartphones can be until the screen turns on and shows her that she has two new messages from her boyfriend of two years: Izuku Midoriya. One text was the usual good morning message, while the other was a question about their fellow classmate Yuga Aoyama. She giggles at the following text as she shoots off her good morning message.
We never really found out if he’s really French, haven’t we?
Another message pops up on her screen. It’s from her close friend and classmate, Mina Ashido. When she read the text, a giant doofy smile crept on her face. She sends back: “Yeah, today is the day! In more ways than one (^0^)”
Mina’s energetic message reminded her about the small red velvet box sitting on her bedside table. When opened, it reveals a beautiful gold ring. Nothing fancy. No diamond. No special writing. Just a golden engagement ring. A very expensive golden engagement ring. Ochaco can still hear her wallet wail in pain. Before she leaves her dorm room, she opens the box to take a quick look.
Anxiety waterfalls through her body, and her knees dare to crumble beneath herself as she gazes upon the ring. She hasn’t even asked the question yet, and she’s still nervous.
These past few weeks were hell for her. Constantly trying to hide the box whenever Deku would visit her room. Keeping Mina’s mouth shut. The sudden bouts of anxiety and stress whenever she thought of proposing. Keeping Toru’s mouth shut. Graduation. Keeping both Mina’s and Toru’s mouths shut. Needless to say, Ochaco feels extremely exhausted, but she remains determined.
There is no big villain.
There is nobody in need of saving.
No burning building.
No hurricane.
The only thing standing in her way is herself.
She finishes her morning routine and prepares herself for the day ahead of her. Graduation is at 4:00 PM, and the after-party is at 7:00 PM. Eight hours until she walks across the stage in front of all of her classmates and loved ones, and eleven hours until she asks the most stress-inducing and important questions of her life.
Before she steps outside her room, she takes one last look at the place she called home for three years. With a smile and a confident attitude, she closes the door behind her.
However, just as she steps outside her room, disaster strikes. In a blink of an eye, her legs entangled with each other, and she loses balance. Gravity takes over. Instead of facing the wall, she now finds herself facing the floor. She closes her eyes, and anxiously waits for impact.
You gotta be fu-
Rather than having her nose break when her face mercilessly hits the floor, Ochaco realizes that she had been falling for quite a while. Or at least she thought she was. She opens her eyes and sees that the floor is not getting closer, rather it stays static.
“Ochaco! Are you okay?”
A familiar voice brings her to finally notice the two muscular arms holding her torso and waist. She’s been held by these arms enough times to deduce who they belong to. If this was two years ago, she would have blushed madly, and he would follow suit. But now, she just smiles.
Today is going to be a very good day.
Only three senses that the leader of the League of Villains, Tomura Shigaraki, still retained. His taste, hearing, and touch. In his mouth, all he could taste is the metal of his own blood. Darkness blinds him. He doesn’t know if he’s just in a dark room, or if that crazy bitch removed his eyes. His hands and feet ache, but even he knows that it’s just phantom pain. He remembers when she meticulously cut his limbs off. The sounds as the knife grind and cut against his bones.
The horrific glee in her voice as she sang to herself. And the sickening crunches and slurps as she consumed every ounce of his blood as she could. He can’t even scream, she sewed his mouth shut. She said that she doesn’t want any backtalk during her meals.
He doesn’t know what time it is. He has lost all sense of spatial awareness. And that’s why he tries to scream whenever he hears that door open. The echoes of footsteps bounce off the walls and stimulate Tomura’s eardrums. Giggling circles around him. He feels his heart thump in his chest, desperately attempting to break free of its boney prison.
The giggling stops right in front of him, and Tomura can feel her breath on his face.
“Oh, Tomura~” the demon taunted. “Today’s the day.”
All Tomura can do is groan and moan in response.
“Oh, you don’t know what today is? Haven’t you been listening to me, dummy? I always talk about it during dinner.”
He feels her presence inch ever so closer. A murderous intent fills the air. A sharp pain stings his neck. He can feel his blood steadily flow out of the wound and run down the knife.
The hellish woman whispers in Tomura’s ear. “Today’s the day where I start spending the rest of my life with the two people that I love. Which means…” Her voice changes from being playful to serious. “... I’m finally done with you.”
Tomura failed to scream as he felt the knife quickly slash his throat and blood splashes everywhere. He becomes light-headed as no matter how many times he gasps for precious air, the oxygen just escapes through his open trachea. There is no coming back from this.
Throughout all of this, she laughs as if she’s watching a standup comedy show.
Eventually, his body stops writhing in a desperate attempt to save himself. His muscles relax, and his chest falls. Before his hearing fails him, he can hear his killer say something that would have made his skin crawl if his nerves weren’t dead.
“You had such a wonderful Quirk, Shiggy. It’s a shame you were such a disappointment.”
After she utters those words, Tomura Shigaraki becomes deaf to the world around him. The only thing he can hear is his own mental screams as he is collected by the Reaper and enters the great unknown.
The rest of the day flew by Ochaco faster than she anticipated. First, she ate breakfast, and the next thing she knew, she was already in the UA girl’s locker room, sitting down on a bench in her traditional yukata. Her fellow classmates' voices conversing with each other become muffled to her as she focuses on the open red velvet box in front of her.
Can I really do this?
A sudden tap on her shoulder pulls her out of her dazing, and she turns around to see a certain green-haired, frog-quirked girl. Ochaco smiles at her close friend, and Tsuyu Asui returns the smile with a small “ribbit.” Ochaco remembers the first time she really talked to Tsuyu when they were only first years. Small fledgling heroes in training. Not knowing what the next three years would bring to the table. Talking about who they looked up to, getting to know each other, and, most importantly: why they want to be heroes.
And if Ochaco knew anything, it’s that Tsuyu can read people like open books.
“Cold feet? Ribbit,” she asked.
Case in point.
In the past, such a question from her would elicit an extreme reaction. She would usually bury her face in her hands and accidentally activate her Zero Gravity and float towards the ceiling. But now, the only thing that Tsuyu would get out of her was a small blush, or if the question caught Ochaco off guard: some mild stuttering.
“Isn’t cold feet supposed to be before the wedding?”
Tsuyu shrugged and took a seat next to Ochaco.
“Same idea. Are you having second thoughts?” Tsuyu asks her friend.
Ochaco just sighs and shakes her head. “No, it isn’t that, not at all. I know… I know I want to do this.” The box in Ochaco’s hand starts to shake as her body fills with anxiety. “I love him. I really really do, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him, but…”
Tsuyu tilts her head in curiosity.
“But…? Ribbit.”
Ochaco faces Tsuyu and looks at her directly in her eyes. A serious look adorns her face.
“What if he says no?”
This one sentence stops all activity in the locker room. Everyone looks at Ochaco as if she suddenly grew two heads. Not uncommon for someone in their society, but certainly different. Ochaco felt all eyes on her and sheepishly closes the ring box. Embarrassment filling every fiber of her being. Desperately trying to escape the silent judgment from everyone in that room, she quickly put the ring box in her bag and gets up and fast-walks her way to the door.
Still feeling the gaze of every girl in the room, she turns around and faces her baffled audience. Everyone had a different reaction. Mina just keeps letting out small chuckles and laughs, holding her hand to her mouth as if holding back a monster from getting into a medieval city. Having her mouth hang open as if to say something, Momo Yayorozou did not find the words to which to object the objectively insane question she just heard. Ochaco cannot figure out what emotion that Toru expressed. Jiro just rolls her eyes and continues to idly play with her ear jacks. Finally, Tsuyu’s eyes transform from a deep green to a sheet-white.
Ochaco laughs and scratches the back of her head. “Ha, um, stupid question?”
“Very,” all the girls said at the same time with varying tones.
“Right, right,” Ochaco mutters to herself.
At 3:45 PM, Ochaco sits in the hallway directly outside the reception hall. Just fifteen minutes, she and the rest of her class will walk out and officially become alumni UA. She originally thought that proposing to Izuku would be the most stomach-churning and world-flipping event of that day. But, the thought of going onto that stage in front of all those people made Ochaco’s legs wobble and turn into gelatine. She fiddles with the ring box as she thinks about the next few hours.
She’s a hero! Why is she getting stage fright of all things?! She’s taken down bigger and badder villains that any normal person can dream of. She’s gotten her arms broken, ribs cracked, brain rocked, jaw dislocated, and so much more, and this is what is doing her in. She’s so focused on making that inevitable walk across the stage that she doesn’t even realize that Izuku Midoriya is right behind her.
“Ochaco, are you feeling okay?”
For the second time that day, Ochaco is caught off guard. She faces her boyfriend, wearing his hero uniform, and with speed never seen before, she hides the ring box in the folds of her yukata's breast.
She replies, “Oh, D-Deku! Just experiencing some stage fright, that’s all.”
Izuku tilts his head downward, his gaze aiming at Ochaco’s covered chest, and puts his hand on his chin. Ochaco notices this, and the internal struggle begins.
Did he see the box?!
She snaps her fingers, reeling Izuku out of his deep thought.
“Hey, hey. Eyes are up here, Mister,” she says as she points her index and middle fingers to her eyes.
Izuku’s face turns a deep red and waves his hands in front of him. He stammers out, “N-no! I-I wasn’t…!” He stumbles on his words and desperately tries to explain his mistaken lecherous gaze. Ochaco, however, just smirks and crosses her arms across her chest.
She giggles and punches Izuku’s arm, holding back her true strength by a large margin. “I’m joking, you dork.”
However, rather than returning a less than witty comeback, Izuku’s eyes narrow, and he goes silent.
Ochaco frowns. “Aw, come on, Izuku, I didn’t punch you that hard…”
As if just realizing that she was standing next to him, Izuku snaps back into reality. Confused, he looks around the hallway, as if he is looking for someone.
“Something’s happening…” he mutters.
Ochaco’s head tilts to the side, perplexion written on her face like words on a page.
“Um, Deku?”
Izuku doesn’t say anything.
“Izuku, is it cold again?” she asks.
Izuku turns his body to face Ochaco, his face panicked and tense. When seeing the look of utter anxiety on his face, Ochaco finally starts to put the pieces together. She recognizes that look, the way his body shakes, his eerily silent panic, the small flickers of green lightning enveloping his body.
It’s the way he reacts when All for One is near.
Joining him, Ochaco scans the immediate area as well. Her gaze bouncing off the doors, crawling through the floor and touching the ceiling. The two didn’t speak to each other, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t communicating. They position themselves back-to-back and hold hands. As careful and as silent they can be, they make their way down the hall. They have to warn the others. Ochaco feels Izuku’s hand squeeze hers, and she squeezes back, reaffirming that they’re in this together.
Izuku’s presence only calmed Ochaco to a certain point, however. Her heart beat like a giant gorilla striking a wooden gate over and over again. It dared to burst out of her chest. She still fears All for One. Facing Tomura Shigaraki at the end of her first year left her scarred and horrified at the power of the madman.
Her gaze went everywhere, making sure that nothing moved. Floor. Doors. Ceiling. She repeats this routine. Floor. Doors. Ceiling. Again. Floors. Doors. Ceiling. Again. Floors. Doors. Toga. Ceiling. Once mor-
“Hi, Ochaco baby~” Himiko Toga’s face had always been described by documentations by heroes to represent the dark side of the human condition. That face is currently smiling with its sharp vampiric-like teeth and bright golden eyes directly at Ochaco.
Not having time to be scared, Ochaco’s hand glows pink and activates Zero Gravity on Izuku.
“Deku!” she yells.
Izuku’s body lights up with his signature green lightning. With a swing of her arm, Ochaco flings Izuku around her body like a whip. With his leg bent to deliver a devastating kick, Izuku flies through the air and screams, “Smash!”
Himiko should have been sent flying through the wall with at least a few broken bones. She should have been knocked out from the force of the kick. Instead, there stood Himiko, her face still cracked with the same deranged smile, holding Izuku’s leg in midair.
“What the-“Snatching her hand, Himiko interrupts Ochaco’s train of horrified thought.
“Ochaco, run!” Izuku screams.
Himiko screeches out a laugh that makes nightmares seem like fluffy teddy bears in comparison. “Let’s go, my loves, to a place where…”
The hallway began to twist and turn around the three. Ochaco’s soul feels the hammer of dread striking it over and over again as she sees the world around her literally revolve around her.
“... we can…”
Ochaco feels the temperature around her rise to levels higher than normal. Her forehead produces beads of sweat.
“... be alone forever!”
The building around them crumbles and withers away into nothingness. The sun shines in through the cracks, and Ochaco finds herself in an unfamiliar place.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it, my loves?” Himiko’s voice slithered its way into Ochaco’s ear. “A place where nobody will bother us ever again.”
Ochaco, becoming tired of this three-way dance, finally sees her opening. With a swift kick to Himiko’s gut, she finally freed her hand from the devilish villain, pulling Izuku, still stranded in mid-air as his leg is still held hostage Himiko, from her grasp as well. Ochaco and Izuku then gained some distance from Himiko, hearing her cackle as they dash away.
Spotting a desolated wall, Ochaco, and Izuku mad-dashed to take advantage of their newly discovered cover. Once there, the duo slammed their backs to the wall and took a moment to catch their breaths. Other than her lungs hurting like hell, Ochaco felt a sense of pure fear emanating from Himiko. When she smiled at her and called her “baby” she swore she would have fainted if Izuku wasn’t there. But it wasn’t just that. There was something else...
“Deku,” Ochaco finally got out between deep breaths, “What percentage was that kick?”
Clutching his chest, he lets out an exasperated, “40%.”
Ochaco’s widened her eyes at this revelation. A 40% charged kick from him would incapacitate any villain that didn’t have some sort of defensive Quirk.
Ochaco felt her entire body shiver and quake. “Izuku, she shouldn’t be standing. She shouldn’t even be conscious, how did she even-”
“She has it…” Izuku cut her off. “She has All for One.”
Ochaco couldn’t believe what he just said.
“But, Shigaraki…”
“Shigaraki’s dead. She killed him and consumed his blood. I can feel it in her, but… where are we?”
Ochaco hadn’t even thought about it, but when she looked up, her head felt weightless. The sky wasn’t blue as one would expect, it was a fiery red as if it was set ablaze. And the white things floating high up in the air weren’t clouds, they were ash. Her gaze then scanned her environments, she couldn’t stand to keep looking at such an unnatural sky. Buildings were scattered about, but most of them were dilapidated and destroyed. She can recognize some of the buildings like the ones found in Shibuya, but what bothered her was the lack of life. No human in sight, not even any animals.
“Deku… I don’t think we’re home,” she said with a small crack in her voice.
“... A man with a unique Quirk was on the news the other week… he went missing, and there was only a pile of dust left at his apartment.”
“Shigaraki went Quirk hunting?”
Izuku nodded. “Yeah, after graduation, I was gonna start following the case. But… the Quirk always bothered me. It allowed the man to go to alternate universes.”
Ochaco peered over the wall to see if Himiko was in sight. “Okay, but Toga didn’t turn into Shigaraki or that guy when she brought us here.” Her eyes bolting left and right, vigilantly keeping a lookout.
“But what if it was enhanced?” inquired Izuku.
“But All for One doesn’t enhance power, right? That’s One for All,” shot back Ochaco.
Ochaco jumps back down from her lookout position and lands on her bottom. In turn, Izuku jumps in to take over lookout duty.
“That’s true, and she ran out of my blood a long time ago. I think she’s been using Quirk Enhanc-!”
“Okay, but could an enhancement drug do that?” Ochaco asked. “And even so-gah!”
A deep stabbing pain penetrates Ochaco’s shoulder. A pain she is well familiar with. Currently lodged into her shoulder is a knife, and perching on the wall, grabbing Izuku by the throat, is the knife’s owner.
“Wow, Izuku baby, you hit the nail on the head.”
Seeing her boyfriend in the madwoman's clutches, the thought of Himiko using Tomura Shigaraki’s Quirk, Decay, races through her mind. Ochaco dashes to Himiko, arms outstretched, and her mind on autopilot. She needs to free Izuku from her grasp and fast. Himiko flashes her a smile and hurls Izuku at her. Ochaco hears the whump of Izuku colliding with her abdomen. The pain settles in only less than a second later. Her momentum and direction reverse. As if instinct, she wraps her arms around Izuku’s body, ignoring her body’s own cries of pain as she holds him close. They both hit the ground and groan in pain.
“I chose this universe just for us, my loves!” Ochaco hears Himiko scream out. “Nobody will ever bother us!”
Whistling fills the air, and Ochaco observes as eight knives fly through the air. With a tug on her arm, she is pulled away from airborne assailants by Izuku. One only grazing her calf, producing small traces of blood. She then watches as Izuku makes a mad-dash towards Himiko. Ochaco can only make out the traces of his lightning trail as she follows his lead. Ochaco touches every pebble, rock, and brick and activates her Zero Gravity on them. They all float behind her as she wills them to follow her. She catches up to the fight and watches on as Izuku and Himiko exchange blow after blow.
“Smash!” Izuku yells as he lands a direct hit on Himiko’s face. She laughs in response and returns his strike with a swift swipe with her knife. Himiko dances around the battlefield making wide swings and swipes with her knife. Ochaco can tell that this fight is all a dance to her. A duet in a theatrical production between the main character and his lover. While Izuku bounces back and forth, dodging left and right repeatedly, only making precise strikes where he has an opening. None of these strikes makes a difference, however. Himiko just laughs them off as his fist would bury itself into her flanks. Ochaco is getting really sick of that damn laugh.
Ochaco yells out Izuku’s name and puts her fingers together and shouts, “Meteor Smash!” Then, the debris that she touched come flying at Himiko at exactly 9.8 meters-per-second. Izuku takes heed of Ochaco’s warning and bolts out of the battlefield like a bat out of Hell before the onslaught from Heaven destroys the ground that Himiko stands on. The sound of metal and concrete hitting earth fills Izuku and Ochaco’s ears. The dust from the impact rushes to Ochaco and Izuku. Izuku returns to Ochaco's side just seconds after impact.
“She’s alive, right?” Ochaco asks, a hint of uncertainness plaguing her voice.
Izuku nods his head. “A 50% hit from me only inconvenienced her. She should be alive.”
Then, an explosion from the rubble shakes the earth beneath their feet, and from said rubble rose Himiko Toga, still with her everlasting grin.
“Damn it, she isn’t dead.” Ochaco sighs.
Izuku looks at her incredulously. “You do know we need her to get back, right?”
Ochaco waves her hand, dismissing his question. “Yeah, yeah. I just really hate her.”
By the time Ochaco turns back to face Himiko, she discovers that she disappeared. Gone without a trace. The two then go back-to-back once again, covering each other’s blind spots.
“Oh, Ochaco baby. I’m hurt.” Himiko’s voice surrounded Ochaco and Izuku. “You know just how much I love you, baby.”
They look all around, trying to pinpoint her position. Where is her voice coming from? Where the hell is she? These questions keep invading Ochaco’s mind as she scours the wasteland of this dead Tokyo.
“I love you so much, Ochaco baby~ I knew this from the first day we met! At any chance I got, I would drink your blood just so I can be the person who I admire most. It was so lonely just having your blood, though. I also need Izuku baby’s blood. We’ll all be together forever!”
Ochaco grits her teeth and stomps her foot. “You’re delusional, Toga!” she bellows, “Even if you do kill us and drink our blood, you’ll run out eventually!”
Once again, Himiko's laughter echoes off of the abandoned buildings around them. “Oh please, Ochaco baby. With this amazing Quirk, I can go to any universe I want to and find you two again and again. If I run out of Quirk Enhancers, I’ll just hop on over to another universe and get more! I can’t lose. Especially not to you! My enhancers give me a boost for twenty-four hours, so I’m never losing this fight! We will be together forever, all because of your Quirk, Ochaco baby.”
My Quirk?
“Release.”
Ochaco’s life flashes before her eyes as she looks up towards the sky and realizes what exactly Himiko meant. There, floating directly above her, are many knives. Before she can even gasp, gravity regains control. The cloud of knives descends at exactly 9.8 meters per second. Each knife looks like a raindrop, and all Ochaco can do is stare. Her body screams at her to move, to do anything. But just like a deer in the headlights, all she can do is stay put as her brain tries to comprehend the situation.
It all happened so fast.
Her mind blanks at the memories of the past few seconds.
She doesn’t know why Izuku Midoriya is kissing her, and she doesn’t know why he says, “I’m so sorry. I love you, Uravity,” in such a weak and diminished tone when he pulls away. She sees his eyes welling up in tears as they usually do, but the green in his eyes… they were soulless. His hand on her cheek releases its grip, and his head slumps forward, allowing Ochaco to see eighteen knives buried in his back. She puts the pieces together.
“I...Izuku?”
She inches closer to him.
“Deku?”
No response.
“Deku, please. Izuku, honey. Please.”
She reaches out and brings him closer. His head lies on her lap. When she strokes his cheek, she finds no warmth.
“No. No. No. Y-you can’t do this, Izuku. Izuku, you can’t- you just can’t.”
She shakes him.
“Deku. Wake up.”
She shakes him more.
“Deku, please. Wake up.”
His eyes never open.
Ochaco’s sight blurs from the tears welling in her eyes. A scream escapes from her throat, and it dares to shake the Earth beneath her, only because her world has been shaken to its core. Something in her chest leaves, but she doesn’t know what. A small thump to her left, and she sees the red velvet box open in the corner of her eye. The ring no longer shone like before. No light reflected off of its magnificent surface. Only dust and rubble stuck itself onto its golden sheen, like a cancer.
Her head feels light, and her stomach turns because of the gravity and reality of the situation. Her eyesight becomes even blurrier, but it’s not because of the tears. She’s starting to lose consciousness.
Her head hangs. Her eyes become heavy. The last thing she sees before the world turns dark is Izuku’s soulless face. She succumbs, not even caring that Himiko could be anywhere around her.
When Ochaco opens her eyes up, she can’t lie and say that the situation she found herself in isn’t confusing. There, in front of her, is Izuku Midoriya. There is no blood dripping out of his mouth. No knives lodged into his back. His eyes are a bright green rather than dim and soulless. He smiles at her.
He greets her with a simple, “Hey.”
“Wh-wh-what the hell…?” she replies, astounded by the scene in front of her.
She takes her time to look around her. For as far as she can see, there is only darkness all around her. She turns back to Izuku and asks, “Am I… dead?”
He shakes his head. “No, you’re still alive.”
Ochaco’s face becomes dark. “But… you are, right?” She can feel the tears rearing its ugly head again. She tackles Izuku, but he doesn’t fall over. She wraps her arms around his torso and buries her face into his chest. “This wasn’t supposed to happen!” she screams. “W-w-w-w-we were supposed to graduate today, I was going to propose to you at Momo’s party, and-and-and we were going to get good jobs and then we were supposed to get married at the botanical gardens and-!” She tilts her head up to meet his eyes. “You were supposed to be the new Symbol of Peace. Deku, you were going to save the world. We were gonna be the greatest hero couple, remember?! H-how am I supposed to do this alone? I need you! The world needs you!”
Izuku hugs her back. She can feel how warm he is.
“I know, Ochaco, but… things change. You know? We knew this on our first date, remember? Hero life is unpredictable. We put our life on the line to save others. I’m just…” She sees that he’s starting to cry as well. “I’m so sorry. I’m sorry that I can’t be with you anymore.” His embrace tightens around her. “You have to be the Symbol of Peace now, Ochaco.”
Ochaco’s eyes widen in shock. All of the puzzle pieces fall into place. Izuku used to tell her about the plane of existence that One for All resided in. Talking to past users.
She remembers how One for All is transferred from user to user.
She remembers the kiss that Izuku gave her before he died.
“Izuku…” she mutters.
“I’m sorry, Ochaco. I’m sorry for putting this burden on you.”
She feels breathless, but somehow, she feels safe. Even in this ethereal plane, she can feel the power flowing within her veins.
“It’s okay.” Her voice cracks just slightly. “Is... is there anything I need to know? How to use it?”
Izuku stays silent but only for a moment. “It’s different for everyone, Ochaco. But you’ll find out.”
He smiles at her and then hugs her tighter without any warning.
“Thank you so much for always saving me, Ochaco.”
A beat of silence permeates through the endless void until Izuku lets go of Ochaco. His face is shaded with a deep red. Ochaco chuckles a bit, she hasn’t seen him like this in years.
“Oh my gosh oh my gosh I’m so sorry Ochaco was that too creepy or cheesy I really don’t know it was like in the moment and I don’t know and just-”
Ochaco’s eyes once again well up with tears, but happy ones. She cuts him off with a smile.
“No, Izuku. It wasn’t creepy at all! Or cheesy! I’m glad you think so. Because I do too,” she says.
Izuku stops his worrisome look and smiles back at her.
“Thank goodness,” he says back.
Ochaco can feel the space around her start to break and dwindle. The world is changing once again. She feels like she’s waking up. She gazes upon Izuku’s face, who was still smiling.
“Ochaco,” he says, “You’re the Symbol of Peace now.”
Ochaco must have blinked. Because Izuku wasn’t there anymore. His smiling face transformed into a calm and lifeless frown. She knows where she is.
She isn’t with Izuku anymore. She’s awake.
She’s with her again. She can feel her presence looming over her.
“You feel it now, don’t you, Ochaco?” Himiko’s words drip from her mouth like venom from a snake. “You fought so, so hard, and for what?”
Ochaco doesn’t even look up to face her. Not even to confirm her position.
She doesn’t have to.
She already knows where she is.
She stands seven meters from her. She is standing straight up. There is a knife in her hand.
She knows where everything is.
384,400 kilometers away directly above her head is the moon, and 151.52 million kilometers away at a 45-degree angle is the sun. She feels them. Every planet in the solar system and every star in the sky. Every galaxy in the universe. She knows where they are.
She feels everything.
She feels their gravity.
She feels Himiko’s gravity.
Himiko continues. “To live in a world where everything is taken away for no reason? No reason at all?” Ochaco feels her getting closer. Ochaco feels Himiko raise her arm that she holds the knife in. “Don’t you think it’s so unfair?!”
She throws the knife. It flies through the air. Cutting the small oxygen particles in its path. However, before it can hit its target, it stops. Ochaco’s tears stop flowing down her face, and her eyes stop producing tears. Now, they produce energy. Her brown irises struggle to escape their prison and bleed into her corneas. Streaks of green and pink lightning escape her body. The ground around her cracks and crumbles, and the rubble floats around her body.
“I trust your decision, Deku,” she whispers to the body she holds in her arms. She carefully lays Izuku’s former vessel in this physical world down and kisses its forehead. She then stands up and faces her opponent.
Toga’s look on her face is a mix of bewilderment and terror.
“What the fuck?! What did he do to you?!” she screams at Ochaco.
Ochaco says nothing and grabs the knife that is still floating in midair. She winds up and throws it back at incredible speed. She sees it lodge itself in Himiko’s hand. She watches her scream and clutches her hand in pain.
“What happened to you?!” she continues to scream at her. She produces another knife and throws it at Ochaco, and once again, it stops right before it could slice into Ochaco’s face and skull.
Ochaco looks at the rubble, flying around her like a shield. She nudges one of the rocks slightly, and from that touch, that rock falls to the earth and craters the small patch of dirt it landed on. It continues to bury itself deeper inside the earth and shows no sign of stopping.
She looks up and faces Himiko once again.
“I’m the Symbol of Peace now, and gravity is mine to control.” With lightning speed, she snatches a rock from her shield and hurls it at the sky. As she feels the rock’s gravity gets farther and farther away, she feels Himiko’s gravity is closer and closer. Before Himiko could reach out and touch Ochaco, reducing her to dust, she suddenly becomes weightless. Along with the rubble around her, she floats precariously in midair.
“It’s no use, Himiko,” she says to her in a cold voice, “You can’t win anymore.” She gets close to her face. Looking her into her crazed yellow eyes. “You said, there isn’t anybody living on this Earth, right?”
“Yes, Ochaco, baby! This was the only one I could find! We can be alone here! Please, baby. Just let me put my knife into your heart and drink your blood. Please, baby. We can be alone together. Forever. Please…” Himiko didn’t stop her insane ramblings.
Ochaco grinned. “Good.”
384,400 kilometers above her, she feels a new gravitational pull. It’s strong. Just the way she planned it to be. Himiko suddenly stops her ramblings, and her eyes look up in horror. Ochaco feels a sense of excitement and pride at how scared Himiko is. Ochaco doesn’t need to turn around and see what she’s looking at. She already knows what’s happening.
“You see it, right? The moon? It’s disappearing. Warping. Being crushed into a small one-dimensional strand. All because of that rock that I threw. I don’t know if you dropped out of school before you learned this, Toga, but everything has their own gravitational pull. You. Me. Everything.”
Ochaco continues, “The smallest rock can become a black hole if its gravitational pull was powerful enough.”
Himiko’s eyes widen. “You bitch…”
Ochaco grabbed Himiko by the arm, her vice grip threatening to break it.
“Now, listen here, Toga. You’re going to bring us back to our original universe, and if you don’t…” Her grip tightens. “I will make your life a living hell, okay? Make your decision quick. We only have seven minutes before the black hole destroys the Earth.”
Ochaco sees Himiko’s face twist and contorts in anger before; finally, the light in her eyes gives in. “Okay…” Any confidence, any bravado she once had in her voice, has sucked into a black hole. “You win.”
Satisfied, Ochaco turns around and walks back towards Izuku’s body. She picks him up and curls him inward. For a second, she hopes that Deku isn’t truly gone. That despite all of the reality saying that Izuku is dead, he would get right back up.
Reality, however, doesn’t work that way. It is cruel and unforgiving, and Ochaco knows that. Ochaco stops and picks up the ring box as well. To her, it is the heaviest object she’s ever had to lift. She walks back to Himiko, who is staring daggers at her. Himiko then rolls her eyes and activates the Quirk.
Once again, the world twisted, turned, and spun around them. Buildings restructure themselves. The air cools down, no longer the oppressive heat on the other Earth. The gravities that she felt on the other Earth disappeared, and new, familiar ones took their places. Once the world stops spinning, she looks around and finds herself on her graduation stage.
Murmurs and gasps deliver from the audience in the stands and Ochaco’s classmates in the seats. Toshinori Yagi, the former Symbol of Peace, runs up to her.
“Young Uraraka, what happened?” he asks, gazing upon Izuku’s body.
Ochaco simply looks up and meets his eyes. Toshinori’s expression goes from surprised to saddened in a split second. He does not say anything else. He only nods. She gives him Izuku’s body and turns to Himiko, who is still floating.
“You lost. You’re going to Tartarus,” she tells the madwoman. Himiko grins, however.
“Don’t think that our fight is done, Ochaco baby. I’m still enhanced. I could just touch you, and your head will just disintegrate!” Himiko’s arm lunges forward and grabs Ochaco’s face. “Die!”
Nothing happens.
Himiko’s eyes widen once again. “Wh-what?”
Ochaco grabs Himiko’s arm once again and pulls her hand away from her face.
“You’re twenty-four hours are up. When I grabbed you, I intensified your personal gravity. Time sped up for you.” Ochaco tightens her grip around her arm. She feels the bones crack in its grasp. Himiko screams in pain. “You’re never going to hurt me or anyone else again!” Ochaco feels her body light itself on fire with rage. This person. This villain. This monster took away the world’s greatest hero. Her hero. Green lightning crackles around Ochaco; she can feel the immense power flow through her body and into her fist. With her free hand, she throws a devastating punch, connecting with Himiko’s face. Himiko flies towards the ground and is buried into the stage.
Ochaco looks into the crater with disdain and disgust. She sees Himiko, laying there, chuckling to herself and whining in pain. She closes her hands together and says, “Release,” lifting her gravity spell off of Himiko. She doesn’t even react to her teachers, who run up to her and try to talk to her. She looks down at the velvet box, opens it, sees the ring sitting there alone, and trembles to her knees. She clutches the ring box close to her and cries as tears roll down her face.
“Miss Uravity? Who’s this?”
Ochaco looks down at her protege, Atarabo, and smiles. She’s only fifteen and just about to graduate middle school. Her Quirk? She can lift anything smaller than her. An odd Quirk for sure, but Ochaco saw the potential in her. A fiery go-getter who believes in making people happy. It reminds her of the person who they’re currently visiting.
Ochaco’s gaze switched from Atarabo to the gravestone in front of her. There it reads: Here lies Midoriya “Deku” Izuku. A loving son, boyfriend, and classmate. The greatest hero who has ever lived.
“This… this is the greatest hero who’s ever walked this Earth, young Atarabo.” She kneels down and places her hand on the stone.
“But, Miss Uravity! You’re the greatest hero in the world! You top popularity charts, like, every week!” Atarabo exclaims.
Ochaco laughs at the eagerness of her young protege. “Atarabo, I’m only the most popular hero because of him, and he became the greatest hero of all time because of me.”
“Who is he, Miss Uravity?” she asks.
“He was my friend. My best friend, actually. We met on the day of our entrance exams. I saved him from,” she takes a second to chuckle to herself, “Embarrassing himself. And he saved me that same day. Then we went to class together. We trained together. He saved me. I saved him…”
“Did you love him?”
Ochaco turns to Atarabo. “Yes. I love him very much, and he loves me too. He… died on our graduation day, and he gave me One for All. Atarabo, do you still want to be a hero?”
Atarabo nods her head with extreme vigor. “Yes, ma’am! More than anything!”
Ochaco smiles at her enthusiasm. “Then I won’t lie to you. Heroism is a dangerous job. You can easily lose your life. And one day, I will too. Once I give you One for All, my body will start to wither away. I’ll lose my Quirk. I’ll become weak, and then I’ll die. Leaving you to become the next Symbol of Peace.” She can tell that Atarabo is about to cry, another thing that reminds her of Izuku. She reaches out and grabs her shoulders. “But, Atarabo, it’s okay. I’ll never truly die. You will carry on my Quirk, my legacy, as I do with One for All's past wielders. I will always be with you, just like Izuku is always with me. Heroes never die, Atarabo. The memories of us live forever. In the heads of our family and friends, and in the static time that those memories live in.”
At this point, Atarabo’s face is an ugly mess of tears and snot. “But… but when you die, will I see you again?”
Ochaco only smiles at her. “You will. One day.” She pulls Atarabo into a tight hug, letting the tears flow down her green and pink hero outfit. As she hugs her, she pulls out an old and withered red velvet box. She opens it, and the ring inside almost blinds her, but she doesn’t flinch. However, her tears do start to blur her vision.
I will see him again. I still have to ask him one last question, and that is going to feel damn good.

Crown of the Ivory King is the Dark Souls Series’ Low-point
Ever since the release of Dark Souls 2′s final installment, the Crown of the Ivory King, it’s been attended by a very vocally supportive playerbase. I’ve found it baffling and, despite lurking forums and attempting to coax out explications about why the heck people think it’s so great, I’ve hardly come any closer to understanding the reception. It’s fine, I think, to shrug and say you just have a thing for snowy levels. When that’s made into more than a hyper-subjective admittance, and becomes statements which denigrate Dark Souls 2′s main material (see: comments everywhere that the DLC is supposedly a significant step up from the “B-team”’s work (note that this supposed “B-team” is an imaginary group gamers have conveniently heaped their scorn upon when they’ve found Souls-stuff to be lacking)) . . . then I get kind of annoyed.
With the Boletarian Palace, Demon’s Souls set the standard for me where fortressed layouts in the series are concerned. At the risk of seeming to treat the Boletarian Palace as a case of insuperable level design, I’m going to quote a few bits here from prior essays concerning it, and hope that it instead demonstrates that its better qualities come from reproducible design decisions:
An uncommon attention was paid to the worlds’ furnishings. One noticed, making their way through [the Boletarian Palace], that rickety palisades were erected on the grand introductory staircase, here and there a discarded carriage with maybe a horse corpse; in small, pocket-like refectories were rows of beds, and tables bearing cups, candelabras, and bowled edibles; outside of these cells were carts harboring casks of wine and buckets; or that on a long wall-walk was a somber parade of trebuchets, and adjacent to this was an attic for carts loaded with to-be-launched boulders. There was a sense that everything was in its right place, and to weave through these environments was to experience a world that innately lent itself to textured terms of engagement. Running up a series of staircases peppered by barrels full of explosive powder, and haunted by torch-wielding madmen, meant grappling with an incendiary challenge, yet the challenge was holistically ingrained in the objecthood of that world. In that way, spatial dealings, navigational or combative, acquired a flavor of believability.
Additionally, Demon’s Souls ran counter to an extant strain of design in action-adventure games that draws a distinguishing line between “combative spaces” and “non-combative spaces.” The least gratifying cases of this strain induce a monotonous awareness of compartmentalization, of there being a manner of space for fights — most often resembling an arena accommodating the spectacle of performance (God of War and its progeny come to mind) — and a manner of space for sites between fights. What made Demon’s Souls a categorical outlier was that conflict could happen anywhere; and that, when conflict did happen, the architecture supplemented it.
. . . the Boletarian Palace’s magic was that its architecture discretely realized and blended the inherent themes of defense, housing, and storage. It both came across as a convincing place (again, “convincing” or “realistic” does not mean that the subject has a 1:1 ratio with reality) and engaged the player with design permutations that took hold of the surroundings, like groups of crossbow-firing soldiers blocking the way on a bridge, or darkly spear-throwing creatures in a dim room meant for storing carriages.
Rather than a stony maze with apposite ornaments thrown in, the Boletarian Palace felt like a castle first and foremost, with encounter design that naturally tapped into its abundance of nooks, sharp angles, and verticalities.
If we’re looking at Eleum Loyce -- which can be more or less separated into a fortified area, a residential zone, and a subterranean network -- I think the pervasive problem is that practically none of it has any suggestive power. Suggestive power is a consequence of the level design per se and the clothing it wears. So when nearly all there is to see is the most spartan of stonework (and not even skillfully texture-mapped stonework) and white mounds, engaging level design is vital. Most of the interiors have been reduced to bare, non-functional cubes, and exteriors largely are bluntly laid out paths where you pick off a line of enemies one by one, sometimes including peripheral retainers. It all has the flavor of a beta zone for developmental testing, and it feels terribly wrong that perhaps the sole memorable detail is a frozen fountain early on.
Since this doesn’t really lend itself to interesting encounter design -- there is no ambiguity or mystery to the space, no way to treat it as anything other than a sequence of immediately explicable containers -- and the majority of enemies are super-sturdy soldiers coming in a few flavors, many combative interactions play out as the melee-oriented player leading an alerted bunch of foes to a chokepoint and picking them off with strong attacks. For as much as I could criticize the aesthetic fumbles of the prior two DLC installments, their layouts had definite dynamics: Shulva’s staggered array of towers (some manipulatable), and Brume Tower’s tiered floors skirting circular shafts.
They also featured neat miniature gimmicks that could be engaged to lessen the danger of a given area: destroying sarcophagi in the Dragon Sanctum to make the ghostly sanctum knights assume a corporeal, and practically pregnable, form, and collapsing Ashen Idols speckling the Tower to halt the healing and reappearance of adjacent enemies. It’s hard to really say what Loyce’s comparable gimmicks are. There are, for a while, snowy winds blasting around the fort’s exteriors, but these winds only have a remarkable effect on your range of sight in the optional (and much-hated) Frozen Outskirts (this is, in fact, one of the Outskirts’ few virtues). There are also coats of ice making certain chests inaccessible, but once they’re shattered upon talking to a Lore-Dispensing Character it simply is a matter of backtracking and opening them up in a classically obsessive-compulsive manner (more interesting would’ve been the option to melt the ice by using pyromanic spells).
What little conspicuous level design exists in Eleum Loyce does stand out on its own terms. When you come upon the abandoned residential zone, you must navigate several columned arcades, being careful about the obscured, spine-backed ice rats and, a level above, a spell-casting witchtree spirit or two. Between this triangulation of elements you’ll find yourself using the arcades for cover while also trying to not let their dense arrangement hinder your movements or attacks. It’s basic stuff, and brief, and it’s good (it gets even better when you’re invaded by a black phantom NPC) -- it works on a level beyond shoveling baddies into crates and along straight paths. You’re conscious of an architecture. Disappointing, then, to find that the knotty little complex of residences is really a paltry couple of empty boxes with a useable staircase in one. So much for expanding on that aspect of the city.
Another similarly brief moment happens later on inside a dim, high-ceilinged hall separated by three floors built of wooden planks. The first of these floors is the most interesting. On it, you’ll juggle seeking shelter from two spell-casters by emerging onto nearby balconies, and taking care of a soldier on each balcony itself before you’re ganged up on by pursuers from the hall; and once you’re back in the hall to take of whoever remains, you’ll have to mind the several holes which break up the wooden flooring and lead to deadly drops. As with many cases of fine level design in the series, it demonstrates how an engaging sense of pressure can be exerted on players by aligning simple, but not overly simple, architecture with complementary enemy positions.
Eleum Loyce has been commended for having several loop-around shortcuts that lead you back to prior locations. These commendations haven’t taken into account why this series-trope has excelled when it has excelled, though. To be sure, Eleum Loyce’s shortcuts function as any shortcut should: they expedite the process of repeat attempts at navigation and impart a sense of incremental progress. But beyond this there’s not really any epiphanic or retrospective spark to the loop-arounds. Eleum Loyce’s overall layout is so diffuse and architecturally generalized -- if you compare the two screenshots below you’ll see how visually similar the city’s explorable portions are to its unexplorable portions -- that you’re never learning about its organizational character or seeing charismatic structures reappear. You’re just opening a door or taking an elevator. And, you know, that’s fine. But it doesn’t warrant special praise.
And then there’s the unpleasant friction of the Frozen Outskirt’s conceptual strength versus its actual strength. As each DLC installment has had mechanical gimmicks (some, uh, ostensible), each has also had an optional gauntlet catering to multiplayer efforts. These have been pretty uniformly terrible -- I called Shulva’s an “utterly reduced ‘path with enemies’” -- and are solely concerned with throwing as much densely packed shit at the player(s) in the tightest possible, and least imaginatively suggestive, spaces. As I wrote in the same essay, “There is no design goal here except, ‘Swamp the player who should have assistance to divide the streams of projectiles and the soldiers' advances.’” A slight exception, the Frozen Outskirts offer the novel idea of dislocating players by having the snowdrifts oscillate between visibility and near-invisibility by way of periodic snowstorms. If this were left on its own, if the challenge were one of pure navigation -- having to find one’s bearings and using several ruinous sites as guideposts, and fighting or running away from a few hostile adventurers -- I really think the Frozen Outskirts would be great. All of this potential is squandered by tossing what essentially amount to mini-bosses at players, with no options for even the tiniest bit of cover among the stretches separating the ruins (recalling Elana’s chief design failure), and so the overall experience is demoted to that of a frustrating slog.
I think what makes Eleum Loyce the series’ low-point for me is its formal vapidness + its very positive reception. I feel bored and alienated. It’s hard to not think that people have been poisoned to believe that what is most remarkable about these games is the element of challenge. Eleum Loyce is, to me, a snubbing of everything I’ve enjoyed about exploring these games’ places. All curious details have been scrubbed out and what remains is a base obstacle course of cartoonishly themed enemies -- ice-coated soldiers, some with crystals bursting from their backs -- with the ultimate signifier of Prepare to Die challenge at the end: a bunch of knights in a huge arena protecting an even bigger knight, who epically emerges from Barad-dûr’s peak to a tritone and can make his sword be the biggest sword.
Anyway. That’s what I think. What do you think?

Abstract
Motivated by a series of reported experiments and their controversial results, the present work investigated if volunteers could causally affect an optical double-slit system through mental efforts alone. The participants task alternated between intending the increase of the (real-time feedback informed) amount of light diffracted through a specific single slit and relaxing any intention effort. The 160 data sessions contributed by 127 volunteers revealed a statistically significant 6.37 sigma difference between the measurements performed in the intention versus the relax conditions (p = 1.89 × 10−10, es = 0.50 ± 0.08), while the 160 control sessions conducted without any present observer resulted in statistically equivalent samples (z = −0.04, p = 0.97, es = 0.00 ± 0.08). The results couldn’t be simply explained by environmental factors, hence supporting the previously claimed existence of a not yet mapped form of interaction between a conscious agent and a physical system.
Discussion
The five experiments testing a consciousness-related form of interaction with a double-slit system resulted in a 6.37 sigma effect, successfully replicating the anomaly found by previous studies. In contrast, the control sessions conformed to the null hypothesis, showing that the obtained effect cannot be reduced to methodological or analytical artifacts. The effect neither can be explained by a temperature increase in the experimental room as shown by experiment 0 with a lamp producing more heat than a human body does. Experiment 0 also excluded possible artifacts caused by the participant/control sessions order. Care was taken in order to isolate the experiment from mechanical vibrations and electromagnetic waves, as well to monitor the magnetic field and the temperature over different places. The same differential analysis procedure resulted in no significant results for the monitored environmental variables, discarding those physical processes as the primary causal sources of the light measured intention/relax differences. The participants intended the feedback magnitude increase, which in turn was linked to a specific feedback variable and a test hypothesis. The variable was built by taking into account a model which predicted the most sensitive wavenumber regions in the case of a legitimate interaction. With this method, the participants indirectly intended the increase in the amount of light crossing through a specific slit. The results indicate a flexible interplay between the two degrees of freedom ψ and φ to achieve the desired variation, revealing a goal-oriented characteristic for the ψφ-interaction. As the light luminosity is conserved, the interaction can be pictured as Maxwell’s demon kind of influence, where intention plays the demon’s role by “steering” some photons to the desired left/right slit. 11 The observed effect cannot be explained as the consequence of a measurement taking place in the participants conscious awareness. If that were the case, one should expect to see a decrease in the interference component followed by a 50/50 balanced slit intensity ratio. Differently, the results reveal a probability modulation enhancing the light passage through the desired slit. Thus the presented results don’t provide a solution to the quantum measurement problem (a similar view is shared by [26] on commenting about Radin et al. conclusions). According to the experimental evidence, it is more reasonable to label the effect as an interaction adding complex numbers to the path amplitudes, which by interference leads to a change in the outcome probabilities. Instead of challenging the quantum mechanics framework and the traditional objective interpretations, the results are suggestive of a standard-model violation, pointing to the existence of a still to be elucidated fundamental force field. A pertinent question to be addressed is: if such an effect really exists how could it have lasted consensually undetected in spite the technological breakthroughs of the last century? First, it’s reasonable to expect a small cross-section; an effect too small it could go unperceived in people’s daily lives, that needs proper amplification and a group of people to be statistically detected in a controlled setting. Second, by being a function of the conscious agent subjective condition, it may rely on a specific state of consciousness and an individual skill to promote it, thus not being consistently obtainable by anyone in any situation. In particular, if the effect happens to be catalyzed by states opposed to rational faculties such as thinking and the use of language, it may lead to a paradoxical situation: the more one tries to exert control in a pragmatic approach, the less they cause the phenomenon. The third reason can be argued as a consequence of the sociocultural process described by [27, Chap. 1] that led physicists to shift from philosophical interests to a more pragmatic approach motivated by post world war II military interests. While it was not uncommon to watch the quantum physics founding fathers discussing topics such as consciousness and mysticism, after the post-war technological race, the interest in such topics not only became old-fashioned but something to be avoided while following a “serious” career path. As a result, the current consensus defends that consciousness is not necessary to describe the physical world, while not introducing consciousness per se in their experiments. Compared to the previous efforts to probe the phenomenon using random number generators, the double-slit system has the advantage of providing interference information across a spatial dimension as opposed to binary outcomes. Having more information available makes it more sensitive to the investigated ψφ-interaction. Moreover, as opposed to the usual random number generator physical processes, it allows final state interference, which allows the phase difference φ to play a role in the probability modulation. Regarding the double-slit variable of interest, the use of Fourier transformed variables is suggested in order to benefit from the full CCD frame instead of using the fringe visibility three pixels (the central maximum value and its adjacent minima). Future improvements to the current double-slit setup can be achieved by focusing on strategies to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in the interference pattern measurements and to provide clearer feedback information. From the theoretical side, refinements in the interaction model can be sought in order to provide sharper variable predictions. Regarding the profound implications in the event that the observed effect is confirmed as a legitimate anomaly, replication efforts are highly advised.

A Chat With Grounded Concept Resident Pablo Mateo About His Adventure With Techno-- Telekom Electronic Hammers
Unless you stay in Berlin, there is actually a possibility that you have not yet been aware of Pablo Mateo, but that's very soon to transform. The Berlin-based selector and developer, that is actually a citizen of the urban area's approved Ground Concept techno celebrations, has actually just released, his debut album on Len Faki's Amount trace.
It is actually a praiseworthy job that, after his previous launches on Marcel Dettmann Records, LACKREC, Dred Records as well as Perish Orakel, features an especially atmospherical, experimental-edged approach to techno. Once the release is out, TEB senior editor Sven von Thülen met with him to locate out additional concerning his creation methods and the tests that he is actually looked at on his long route to global recognition.
You have it minor comfortable below. Are you the sort of manufacturer that is actually a lot more efficient when you can fall out of the bed as well as land in the studio? I enjoy the concept of having my own musician workshop, certainly not only a studio space. Specifying my studio up in your home was a real game changer for me. Prior to that I was actually always in a studio complex. For some time, I truly treasured having the capacity to bang it out as noisally as I really wanted, whatever time of the day it was. Ultimately, I recognized that I required a various setup to actually be actually able to produce songs in the method I yearned for to. I need to have an informal atmosphere. I can easily nerd out and also issue on my own along with tiny audio information and after that recoil and most likely to yet another space, rest, checked out a publication as well as widen my focus once more. That is actually definitely essential to me.
Just how did that relocation influence your way of generating as well as your audio? I learned a load concerning sound once I was compelled to create on a reduced loudness level. Also because of the speakers I bought when I relocated, which are actually very crystal clear and also permit a very spatial paying attention experience. Developing a man-made space is actually one of my greatest objectives as well as passions. Bodily modelling is actually absolutely interesting. I think you can hear that in my songs, particularly on my launching cd. My rational hearing capabilities and also my audio design and also post development chops have actually developed a whole lot over the final 2 years. I definitely immersed myself in the entire process and in every parts of audio. Consequently, I began to perform a considerable amount of engineering and also mixdown help others, too.
Somehow, I constantly assumed of you as a developer who strolls the great pipes in between dubby house as well as techno; tech-house if you will. Your debut album, Odd Reflections Beyond The Skies, now completely welcomes techno. I constantly thought about on my own as a techno producer. If you pay attention to my album, you may listen to that, for me, beat is actually certainly not the defining character of a keep track of being a techno monitor or even not. For me, the way you create your music describes it. If you inevitably function along with devices, you are bring in techno. I could possibly simplify enjoy this: If you can not recreate your popular music and also its own feel with a heart band, then you are bring in techno. Technology goes to the center of it. I am actually a synthesis nerd. That's what's intriguing to me.
I expect that my expectation that your outcome had an emphasis on home was a misconception. I obtain where you're coming from. I examine my old reports as studies. They were actually all stepping rocks to lastly manage to produce my noise; my own music voice. 2 of my largest impacts are Basic Stations and also Omar S, as well as up until recently you could really hear that.
Prior to your cd, you 'd only discharged on a crack EP with Juxta Role on Body. It's type of uncommon to discharge an album just before a solo EP, isn't it? I fulfilled Philipp Welzenberg, the tag supervisor, in a comical instant. His cars and truck had just been actually towed due to the police, as well as he was pretty pissed off. I was actually trying to make tiny talk, yet he had not been possessing it in any way. He really did not mince phrases when he informed me that he is actually means as well pissed off at the moment for check chat. That actually amazed me. The way he handled his aggravation. It was true. The next opportunity we satisfied, our team performed talk, as well as I discovered that he was working with Figure, and also he knew some of my launches. From there it was actually a quite all-natural advancement. Ultimately, I gave Philipp a demo along with six tracks as well as, after paying attention, he and also Len were like, "Let's create an album!"
That have to possess believed great to hear. Were you amazed? It was actually terrific. They were actually the initial individuals to ever before inform me, "Do what you prefer. Our team enjoy to possess you, you embody our more experimental edge. Permit's do this!" They really did not wish to rename shit, they didn't also prefer me to edit or even change just about anything. After whatever that had happened in the past, this was actually therefore recovery.
What perform you suggest? A number of years back, I possessed the provide to offer a cd for a major techno label. I was on seventh heaven. I began to purchase tools, as well as for an even though, I truly thought I am only an in far from my huge break. When all of it dropped through, also after being reassured for one-and-a-half years that it wouldn't, I was actually really wrecked. Yet the fallout of this entire mess, which wasn't merely a company trait however also meant the edge of great friendships, possessed a break in the clouds.
Positive side, as in you took it as a course you had to discover? Absolutely. It was a reality examination. And I needed that. This whole instructed me to trust myself more. I asked myself, "Why am I making songs? What perform I yearn for avoid it?" Currently I know what I prefer, and also what kind of surrounding I would like to be actually component of. Enjoying my goals smash produced me a lot more devoted to my songs-- to finding out much more concerning the devices I use. One of the traits that still gets me often is that I had actually entirely approved this tip, this misconception that somebody will happen and offer me my major advancement. Often I ponder what would've occurred if I possessed only self-released all the keep tracks of that were actually blocked out for that album.
I think it's completely easy to understand that you will begin to hope a bit in the illumination of a provide that thought that a prospective activity changer. Yeah, possibly. I fell target to my own narcissism. All of it sounded therefore remarkable, to become part of this large point, that I shed on my own in a fantasy. I distributed whatever I had-- all my tracks. I went all-in without hesitating. Remembering, this is the a single thing that truly frustrates me.
What was actually different when you began to work with Physique? They offered me carte blanche. Every evening from late spring to early fall, two planes lift off from airports in the western United States and fly through the sunset, each headed for an active wildfire, and then another, and another. From 10,000 feet above ground, the pilots can spot the glow of a fire, and occasionally the smoke enters the cabin, burning the eyes and throat.
The pilots fly a straight line over the flames, then U-turn and fly back in an adjacent but overlapping path, like they’re mowing a lawn. When fire activity is at its peak, it’s not uncommon for the crew to map 30 fires in one night. The resulting aerial view of the country’s most dangerous wildfires helps establish the edges of those fires and identify areas thick with flames, scattered fires and isolated hotspots.
A large global constellation of satellites, operated by NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), combined with a small fleet of planes operated by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) help detect and map the extent, spread and impact of forest fires. As technology has advanced, so has the value of remote sensing, the science of scanning the Earth from a distance using satellites and high-flying airplanes.
The most immediate, life-or-death decisions in fighting forest fires—sending smokejumpers to a ridge, for example, or calling an evacuation order when flames leap a river—are made by firefighters and chiefs in command centers and on the fire line. Data from satellites and aircraft provide situational awareness with a strategic, big-picture view.
“We use the satellites to inform decisions on where to stage assets across the country,” said Brad Quayle of the Forest Service’s Geospatial Technology and Applications Center, which plays a key role in providing remote-sensing data for active wildfire suppression. “When there’s high competition for firefighters, tankers and aircraft, decisions have to be made on how to distribute those assets.”
It’s not uncommon for an Earth-observing satellite to be the first to detect a wildfire, especially in remote regions like the Alaskan wilderness. And at the height of the fire season, when there are more fires than planes to map them, data from satellites are used to estimate the fire’s evolution, capturing burned areas, the changing perimeter and potential damage, like in the case of Montana’s Howe Ridge Fire, which burned for nearly two months in Glacier National Park last summer.
Global fire picture from space
In January 1980, two scientists, Michael Matson and Jeff Dozier, who were working at NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service building in Camp Springs, Maryland, detected tiny bright spots on a satellite image of the Persian Gulf. The image had been captured by the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) instrument on the NOAA-6 satellite, and the spots, they discovered, were campfire-sized flares caused by the burning of methane in oil wells. It marked the first time that such a small fire had been seen from space. Dozier, who would become the founding dean of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at University of California at Santa Barbara, was “intrigued by the possibilities,” and he went on to develop, within a year, a mathematical method to distinguish small fires from other sources of heat. This method would become the foundation for nearly all subsequent satellite fire-detection algorithms.
What was learned from AVHRR informed the design of the first instrument with spectral bands explicitly designed to detect fires, NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, launched on the Terra satellite in 1999, and a second MODIS instrument on Aqua in 2002. MODIS in turn informed the design of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite, VIIRS, which flies on the Joint Polar Satellite System’s NOAA/NASA Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites. Each new instrument represented a major step forward in fire detection technology.
“Without MODIS, we wouldn’t have the VIIRS algorithm,” said Ivan Csiszar, active fire product lead for the Joint Polar Satellite System calibration validation team. “We built on that heritage.”

The instruments on polar-orbiting satellites, like Terra, Aqua, Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20, typically observe a wildfire at a given location a few times a day as they orbit the Earth from pole to pole. Meanwhile, NOAA’s GOES-16 and GOES-17 geostationary satellites, which launched in November 2016 and March 2018, respectively, provide continuous updates, though at a coarser resolution and for fixed portions of the planet.
“You can’t get a global picture with an aircraft, you can’t do it from a ground station,” said Ralph Kahn, a senior research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. “To get a global picture, you need satellites.”
The MODIS instrument mapped fires and burn scars with an accuracy that far surpassed AVHRR. And after nearly 20 years in orbit, the optical and thermal bands on MODIS, which detect reflected and radiated energy, continue to provide daytime visible imagery and night-time information on active fires.
VIIRS has improved fire detection capabilities. Unlike MODIS, the VIIRS imager band has higher spatial resolution, at 375 meters per pixel, which allows it to detect smaller, lower temperature fires. VIIRS also provides nighttime fire detection capabilities through its Day-Night Band, which can measure low-intensity visible light emitted by small and fledgling fires.
The first moments after a fire ignites are critical, said Everett Hinkley, National Remote Sensing Program Manager for the U.S. Forest Service. In California, for example, when intense winds combine with dry fuel conditions, the response time can mean the difference between a catastrophic fire, like the Camp Fire that consumed nearly the entire town of Paradise, and one that is quickly contained.
“Those firefighters who are first responders don’t always know the precise location of the fire, how fast it’s moving or in what direction,” Hinkley said. “We’re working to try to give them real-time or near-real-time information to help them better understand the fire behavior in those early critical hours.”
Responders increasingly turn to the GOES satellites for early, precise geolocation of fires in remote areas. On July 2, 2018, for example, after smoke was reported in a wooded area near Central Colorado’s Custer County, GOES East detected a hotspot there. Forecasters in Pueblo visually inspected the data and provided the exact coordinates of what would become the Adobe Fire, and crews were sent quickly to the scene. The fire detection and characterization algorithm, the latest version of NOAA’s operational fire detection algorithm, is in the process of being updated and is expected to further improve early fire detection and reduce false positives.
“The holy grail is that firefighters want to be able to get on a fire in the first few hours or even within the first hour so they can take action to put it out,” said Vince Ambrosia, a wildfires remote-sensing scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California. “So it’s critical to have regular and frequent coverage.”
Remote sensing data on wildfires is accessed in many different ways. Among them, NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System, or FIRMS, uses MODIS and VIIRS data to provide updates on active fires throughout the world, including a rough location of a detected hotspot. Imagery is available within four to five hours.

Smoke and public health
Of course, where there’s fire, there’s smoke, and knowing how wildfire smoke travels through the atmosphere is important for air quality, visibility and human health. Like other particulate matter in the atmosphere, smoke from wildfires can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause a range of health problems. Satellites can give us important information on the movement and thickness of that smoke.
Terra carries the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument, a sensor that uses nine fixed cameras, each viewing Earth at a different angle. MISR measures the motion and height of a fire’s smoke plume, as well as the amount of smoke particles coming from that fire, and gives some clues about the plume’s composition. For example, during the Camp Fire, MISR measurements showed a plume made of large, non-spherical particles over Paradise, California, an indication that buildings were burning. Researchers have established that building smoke leads to larger and more irregularly shaped particles than wildfires. Smoke particles from the burning of the surrounding forest, on the other hand, were smaller and mostly spherical. MISR’s measurements also showed the fire had lofted smoke nearly 2 miles into the atmosphere and carried it about 180 miles downwind, toward the Pacific Ocean.
Scientists also closely monitor whether the height of the smoke has exceeded the “near surface boundary layer,” where pollution tends to concentrate. Wildfires with the most energy, such as boreal forest fires, are the most likely to produce smoke that goes above the boundary layer. At that height, “smoke can typically travel farther, stay in the atmosphere longer, and have an impact further downwind,” Kahn said.
The satellites have limitations. Among them, the heat signatures the instruments detect are averaged over pixels, which makes it difficult to precisely pinpoint fire location and size. Interpreting data from satellites has additional challenges. Although thermal signals give an indication of fire intensity, smoke above the fire can diminish that signal, and smoldering fires might not radiate as much energy as flaming fires at the observed spectral bands.
Up close with airborne ‘heat’ sensors
That’s where the instruments on the Forest Service aircraft come in. Data from these flights contribute to the National Infrared Operations Program (NIROPS), which uses tools developed with NASA to visualize wildfire information in web mapping services, including Google Earth. NASA works closely with the Forest Service to develop new technologies for the kind of thermal sensing systems these planes carry.
Each NIROPS plane is equipped with an infrared sensor that sees a six-mile swath of land below and can map 300,000 acres of terrain per hour. From an altitude of 10,000 feet, the sensor can detect a hotspot just 6 inches across, and place it within 12.5 feet on a map. The data from each pass are recorded, compressed and immediately downlinked to an FTP site, where analysts create maps that firefighters can access directly on a phone or tablet in the field. They fly at night when there’s no sun glint to compromise their measurements, the background is cooler, and the fires are less aggressive.
“Every time we’re scanning, we’re ‘truthing’ that fire,” says Charles “Kaz” Kazimir, an infrared technician with NIROPS, who has flown fires with the program for 10 years. “On the ground, they may have ideas of how that fire is behaving, but when they get the image, that’s the truth. It either validates or invalidates their assumption since the last time they had intel.”
The infrared aircraft instruments fill some of the gaps in the satellite data. Field campaigns, such as the NASA-NOAA FIREX-AQ, now underway, are designed to address these issues too. But scientists are also looking to new technology. In 2003, representatives from NASA and the Forest Service formed a tactical fire remote sensing committee, which meets twice annually to discuss ways to harness new and existing remote sensing technology as it relates to wildfires. For example, a new infrared sensor is being developed that scans a swath three times wider than the existing system. That would mean fewer flight lines and less time spent over an individual fire, Hinkley said.
“The takeaway really is that we are actively investigating and developing capabilities that will aid decision-makers on the ground, especially in the early phases of dynamic fires,” Hinkley said. “We’re not just resting on our laurels here. We understand that we need to better leverage new technologies to help keep people safe.”

He’s not too burly for a Dwarf, nor too light (though he is not the perfect standard either, in terms of what Dwarves find attractive, but this is food for some other time...). Though taller than most Dwarves, Thorin’s length puts him at a disadvantage on jumping and running, though he runs at an above average speed for a Dwarf. It is uncommon among Dwarves to be able to swim, and Thorin is no exception. He holds a certain fear for (deep) waters as much as he dislikes the absence of solid ground underneath his feet. Stretching, dancing, stealth: Thorin, like many Dwarves, can come across as a little clumsy (if not stiff). A Dwarf’s physical build is different than that of Men or Elves, or even Hobbits, who are shaped more in proportion than Dwarves who are known for their short and stout appearance. Touch sensitivity: High scores on both, as Thorin is often one to spend very long periods of time without being touched or touching someone else, so when he does engage in such acts, he often experiences them quite intensely (even the most innocent touches).

SIDE NOTE: While gifted with the wealth of being born into a royal family, Thorin has never really been one to excel at his studies or teachings (this is also the case in his modern verses). Often, his knowledge is at an average level, though he does score high on things that involve creativity. He has a heart for music, playing the harp since he was little (piano in his modern verses), and has always been quite fond of reading as well. Sometimes he sings, but barely ever in the presence of others. He’s very self-conscious, and considers his arts to be very intimate. While he excels at the arts, he has never been very good at drawing. If he wishes to create something, he often creates it from an image he has in his mind and further adjusts it until it looks well enough. Thorin is too serious to be a proper (or a good) comedian. He doesn’t know many jokes, nor does he like a lot of jokes. He doesn’t have a feeling for finding the right time to make a light-hearted comment or a silly joke either. Thorin much rather prefers to be silent, which often leads people to believe he’s a party pooper.

EMOTIONAL COMPREHENSION — 8 / 10.
TENDENCY TOWARDS PANIC — 2 / 10.
GENERAL EMOTIONAL STABILITY — 6 / 10. SIDE NOTE: While raised as a prince and the heir to a throne, Thorin often feels like he’s not as good at communicating with others as he wished. With his own kin, it’s less of a struggle than with those of a different kind. But as Dwarves rarely meddle with other peoples, he doesn’t really find any worries or troubles with this slight struggle in communication either. In the end, it’s often only the Elves who make it most difficult for Thorin, who sometimes also struggles with himself. While he may appear as confident, he is also incredibly self-conscious and often spends more time doubting himself than one could possibly imagine. As introverted as he can be, Thorin spends a remarkable amount of time by himself (even when among others) Dragonsickness throws a lot of dirt at putting numbers on (most of) these stats, because it often tumbles things around completely. Thorin may lose his ability to (want to) communicate with others, he will feel so little empathy where usually he feels plenty for his kin or his emotional endurance an stability can plummet to a point where he could just weep or get angry over trivial things. Where he usually knows how to cope with his emotions or struggles, the Dragonsickness might just sweep the ground from under his feet and have him drown. Or it might create such frustration and greed within his mind, he becomes a cruel little goblin pushing his people into neglect or even slavery instead of the proud and caring Dwarven King he’s ought to be. Lastly, it also causes Thorin to grow much more prone to panic, and general emotional instability. Emotional intimacy: Thorin often has a high need for intimacy of the intellectual and emotional kind much rather than the physical kind, but he will always remain introverted which continues to make it difficult for him to be completely transparent with his partner. With his friends, he is as emotionally intimate as is necessary. He might vent or share an opinion or a thought, but you’ll hardly ever find him weeping on one’s shoulder, seeking comfort or admitting how he truly feels. Though, when Thorin loves (or hates), he loves (or hates) genuinely...

Training Fundamentals: Safe Ascent Procedures
Although we’d often like dives to last longer, as the mantra goes, we must ‘plan the dive and dive the plan,’ making our way back topside at the appropriate gas level or no-decompression turn points. And when it’s time to head to the surface, it’s important to follow safe ascent procedures.
Most training agencies feature some common steps for ascent procedures in their initial dive training courses. What are they? And, more importantly, how might you apply them in different scenarios?
The PADI and SSI systems feature lots of overlap and few differences in the Venn diagram of ascents. Within the PADI system, for example, the pneumonic STELA is often used. But what does it mean?
Step 1: Signal to your buddy
Make a final confirmation to your buddy that the dive is ending and you’re both ready to ascend. Signal ‘up’ and wait for their confirming signal in agreement before proceeding. You should ascend together at the same rate.
A signal is also a way to confirm that you’re in the right area for an ascent. You may intend to ascend using the boat’s anchor line as a reference. On a wreck dive, you may be ascending up a shot line to a surface buoy. In a free- ascent, you might need to swim away from the reef into the blue to facilitate a safe boat pick up. And when shore diving, you’ll want to signal for that final turn toward the beach or shoreline.
Be clear with your buddy. Signal clearly where you’ll ascend, whether indicating an anchor line or a swim away from the reef. Take a compass bearing if required and wait for agreement. Be sure you’re both on the same page — it’s not uncommon for buddies to become separated during the final stages of the dive due to distraction or a lack of communication on the final ascent.
Step 2: Time and gas
If all has gone to plan, this should be a formality. First, double check with your buddy that you’re both within agreed-upon time limits for the dive. On most recreational dives, this means confirming you’re safely within your dive computer’s no-deco limits. If you’ve inadvertently gone into decompression, you’ll need to perform the required stops in accordance with your dive computer’s instructions. If you’ve stayed too long in error, follow your contingency plan with your buddy – whether that’s table or dive-computer instructions.
Check your gas. As with no-decompression limits, if you’ve planned and executed your dive correctly, you will plenty of gas for your final ascent, safety stop and surfacing. If there is a problem, implement your contingency plan. Either way, signal your buddy so you both know your situation.
Sometimes, at this stage, divers may deploy their DSMB when necessary. Others may deploy during the safety stop. Listen to the briefing for environmentally appropriate procedures. If a buddy team is going to deploy a DSMB, agree on who will be doing that with your buddy before the dive begins.
Step 3: Elevating
You and your buddy have agreed to go up and you know where you’re ascending. You’re within planned time limits and have the appropriate gas reserve. Moving shallower in the water column will mean the gas inside your BCD or drysuit will begin to expand. Elevate the appropriate area to the highest point and vent the expanding gas, which may mean holding the LPI hose of your BCD or wing in your left hand. If you’re using a drysuit, ensure that the exhaust valve is open sufficiently for the ascent. Get in the habit of stowing or clipping on any accessories you don’t need to leave hands free.
Similarly, when using a shot line or anchor line as a tactile reference, take the line in the right hand. Leave your left arm free to vent your extended LPI hose, reach over to your right shoulder dump valve toggle, or raise your drysuit exhaust valve.
Step 4: Look
Look where you’re going. Water movement, changes in visibility, light, movement of boats, and other divers can all be potential hazards above you.
Some agencies recommended that you raise your right arm to protect your head as you surface. Others suggest grasping your weight system with your right arm prior to tilting and ascending, in case it’s loosened as your exposure suit compressed under pressure. Much will depend on how and where you’re making your ascent.
If you’re leaving a reef for a boat pick-up, swim into the blue. This allows the boat more space to pick up divers without drifting close to the reef and potentially causing damage. Be aware of boat traffic above you. Sound, which travels four times quicker through water, can give the impression that boats are directly above you. Be sure to look around.
If you’re ascending up an anchor line or shot line, watch for those ascending above you, as well as any who might be descending along the same line to begin their dive. It’s common dive etiquette for ascending divers to have right of way and descending divers to make their way around, leaving the line if required. However, leave as much space as you can — it may be difficult (or impossible) for other divers to leave the line if there is a current. And expect the unexpected — not every diver is as polite as they should be and it’s not uncommon to receive the odd nudge or kick from divers who lack spatial awareness.
Step 5: Ascend
Monitor your speed as you go up. Guidelines vary from 60 feet (18 m) per minute to a more conservative 30 feet (9 m) per minute, with many recreational dive computers favoring the latter. Understand your computer’s display and how to decipher the information. Mount your computer somewhere you can read it during your ascent to monitor the rate. If you feel you’ll struggle, link closely with your buddy and ascend no quicker than they do. If you’re diving with a guide, stay slightly behind them on the ascent and ascend no quicker than they do. If you’re diving independently with a buddy, stay close and ascend at the slowest member’s pace.
Adjust your buoyancy at regular intervals during ascent. Let the equipment do the bulk of the work though — you shouldn’t have to kick hard to ascend. Level off at 15 feet (5 m) for your safety stop. Stay neutrally buoyant and be aware of other divers. Confirm your gas supply again and confirm to your buddies all is ‘ok.’ If you’ve made a free ascent in open water, there may be water movement, so be mindful of your surroundings.
During the safety stop communicate how many minutes you have left: three, two, one. Finally, when all divers have confirmed that they’ve completed their stops, together you’ll make the final ascent to the surface.
The last 15 feet (5 m) of the ascent is arguably the most important as there is the biggest proportionate pressure change. Stay close to your buddy. Ascend at the same rate. Monitor your ascent rate. If your team has one DSMB displayed at the surface, stay close to the person with the buoy. That’s what boat traffic is looking for, not necessarily your bubbles. Surfacing several feet or meters away will leave you vulnerable.
Finally, as you breach the surface, establish positive buoyancy and signal to the dive leader that you’re ok. Where possible, retain your mask and air source, ready for your exit.
There are numerous variations and individual preferences on safe ascent procedures. However, listening to the briefing, agreeing on protocol with your buddy, having a plan in place, and being aware of your surroundings will help you ascend safely with no unnecessary drama.

Why Does Cannabis Make Music Sound So Good?
You shut your eyes and take a breath from your vaporizer because the music starts to play. You’ve listened to the record on many different occasions, but this time that the person notes, rhythms, and melodies seem to resonate with a specific richness, intensity, and gravitas that together provoke your senses on a completely new level.
As Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac previously said, “If you have been working on something for a couple hours and you also smoke a joint, it’s like hearing it again for the very first time.” The connection between audio and cannabis has a rich history, dating back to the development of jazz from the early 20th century. Many leaders within this improvisational art form were regular users of cannabis, such as Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie.
But why does audio sound reallygreat when you are high?
While scientific study investigating this subject is uncommon, there are several hypotheses that attempt to describe the gratifying duet that’s cannabis and audio.
How Cannabis Can Aid Music Production
A few theorists postulate that cannabis’ effects on someone’s sense of timing may be responsible for its appeal among musicians. Previous studies have shown that cannabis speeds our inner clocks, making external “real world” time seem to pass slower. For instance, 1 research revealed a 15 second time interval was “enlarged” to a mean of 16.7 seconds while under the effect of cannabis (while sober controllers correctly estimated this interval).
One study revealed a 15 second time interval was “enlarged” to a mean of 16.7 seconds while under the effect of cannabis.
“If you check into the literature on timing, it seems to be the the brain systems that are affected by cannabinoids are producing a state of mind where there seems to be a slower backward counting,” says Jorg Fachner, professor of music, wellness, and the brain at Anglia Ruskin University in the uk. “And that means your timing components, the time frames that you’re overseeing, seem to be expanded. So those who are improvising seem to get a little more time to postpone the melodic improvements in improvisation and to fine grain the patterns.”
Indeed, some anecdotal reports suggest this subjective expansion of time gains an improvisational art form like jazz as artists can mentally squeeze notes in a specific number of musical bars. These claims, but have yet to be substantiated by empirical research.
Why Cannabis Makes Music Sound Better
How can this change in timing affect listeners consuming cannabis?
Focus and Care
Based on individual user accounts, alterations in inner time can change our attentional spotlight, facilitating changes in sensory perception.
“When your time understanding changes, your focus of attention changes,” says Fachner. “So when you put on a stereo headset you may have an improved capacity to select certain info and dismiss other information, which could help differentiate the person sounds a little more intensively.”
Based on Fachner, this improved attentional focus to see “the distance between the notes” leads to music that’s perceived to be ” more lively, far more tidy, and much more different”
These anecdotal changes in understanding also have been demonstrated to have possible neurological underpinnings.
Back in 2002, Fachner ran a research investigating the connection between cannabis use, music understanding, and changes in brainwave activity. Employing an electroencephalogram (EEG), a device capable of detecting small changes in electrical activity throughout the brain, Fachner first quantified the subject’s cognitive activity while sober (both without and with the existence of audio).
In order to reduce biases in behavior that may arise from an artificial lab setting, the experiments were conducted at the comfort of a living space. The selected music consisted of three songs that included ensemble chamber music, folk-punk, and a Beatles cover. After a 30-minute rest interval, participants then smoked cannabis containing 20mg of both THC and listened to same audio while their brainwave activity was captured.
The results indicated that music-listening cannabis users undergone changes in cerebral, right temporal and left handed cortices–brain regions that have previously been connected to attentional strategy, auditory processing, and plasma processing, respectively.
More especially, the parietal (attentional strategy) cortex showed stronger activity in a specific frequency range called alpha. Interestingly, previous EEG studies have shown that pupils who are gifted in mathematics also show comparable gains in alpha patterns within this brain area while solving problems, indicating that this activity pattern may be indicative of more effective information processing than the average individual.
“One of those interpretations that I had from this information is that when it has to do with focus, subjects were focusing a little more on the noise, which this focus also required less mental ability,” says Fachner. “So it’s much easier to listen to focus, and to relax.”
In addition, greater activity in the perfect temporal brain area has been also detected in stoned music-listening subjects. Because this field is primarily responsible for processing sensory information, these findings further demonstrate a change in neural processing system could underlie shifted music understanding.
Visual Impact
Fachner also detected cannabis-induced modifications from the left occipital area, an area in the rear of the brain that normally processes visual information.
“When you listen to music, it consistently has a spatial dimension to it,” he says. “We need to understand where the noise objects are coming from–that is evolutionarily important. And of course the visual facilities process this.”
Changes within this visual processing may be connected with person reports of synesthesia, or the mixing of various sensory programs, while intoxicated. For example, “there are people that say they’ve improved visual imagery to the audio” after smoking, ” says Fachner.
While high on cannabis, “you tend to shift your focus more rapidly if it’s an interesting-sounding piece of music.”
Jorg Fachner, professor of health, music, and the brain at Anglia Ruskin University
Yet, it’s essential to be aware that this EEG study only analyzed four topics, each of which may have different perceptual approaches for listening to audio and varying tolerances to cannabis. Therefore, the consequences lack adequate statistical vulnerability to produce wide-reaching claims concerning the intermingling of both cannabis and audio on a neurological level.
Performance
Fachner also suggests an alternative explanation for cannabis-induced changes in audio perception that involves disruptions in memory processing. While high on cannabis, “you tend to shift your focus more rapidly if it’s an interesting-sounding piece of songs,” he says.
Because you’re rapidly shifting focus and assimilating more info than you possess the capacity to retain, you end up “draining” your short term memory more often. As a result of the “compressed” memory, your protagonist is believed to be more present, more in-the-moment together with the audio, and can cultivate a larger emphasis on each individual noise.
Stated differently, “A subject becomes less able to incorporate past, present and future, his awareness grows more focused on present events; these cases, consequently, are experienced as prolonged or ageless when they appear isolated from the continual development of time,”wrote Frederick Melges, a psychiatrist at Stanford University.
In summary, “we have a distinct acoustic space we perceive, a different time scale to its auditory events, and a different focus strategy for focusing on what is happening in the songs,” says Fachner. “And that seems to be attached to what’s occurring at the beginning of cannabis action”
Future Research and Application
The auditory enhancing consequences of cannabis may also have possibly therapeutic applications. Fachner notes according to his results and anecdotal evidence, cannabis could help those with hearing impairments fine tune their listening capability, more effectively distinguish the origin of sounds, and also hear higher frequency sounds clearly.
“You get a different understanding of the acoustic space, and the higher frequencies give you more info concerning where the sound source is from the room,” says Fachner.
Yet, scientists continue to face many barriers in their own capacity to test this and a number of the other hypotheses put forth encompassing cannabis and sensory processing. Regardless of the decriminalization of cannabis in many nations across the nation, it’s still difficult for scientific research involving controlled substances to transparent scientific examination boards.
But despite these setbacks to the scientific understanding of cannabis’ transcendent influences on the musical experience, many users have a tendency to agree this partnership reveals no signs of slowing.
