okay so the thing is, i think incorporating nursery rhymes into a bollywood song IS a fun and funky idea and a cool concept, but it was executed soooooo poorly in s*lm*n kh*n’s new song. the song is so ugly and there’s no natural flow between yo yo honey singh and devi sri prasad’s verses. the nursery rhymes weren’t incorporated in a pleasant or creative way, they just sound randomly thrown in there. this song was created to go viral on purpose and i hope it flops.

LOST IN FAME
since you guys most voted for an angst fic with a good ending, here it is !
the aesthetic and writing is kinda bad but i was tired lol sorry, xo 💋
summary : joost is at the height of his career, but he feels increasingly isolated and unable to cope with success. he let his life fall into pieces just to work and that leads to a really bad situation where his relationship with you is at the breaking point.
Tumblr media
Joost sat in the dimly lit studio, fingers hovering over the piano keys. The city’s faint hum barely penetrated the thick walls, swallowed by the oppressive silence. Hours had passed, and the blank page before him taunted his fruitless efforts. The spark that once ignited his creativity felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the weight of expectations.
His phone buzzed, its screen lighting up with a message from you.
Y/N: Are you coming home soon?
Joost sighed, tension building in his temples. He knew he should go home, but the relentless pressure to produce another hit song, another chart-topping album, kept him chained to the studio. He typed a terse reply.
Joost: Not yet. Busy.
Minutes later, another message arrived.
Y/N: It's been hours. We barely see each other anymore.
He ignored it, trying to refocus on the music. But the silence was too loud, and the weight of his isolation pressed down on him. Another hour passed before his phone buzzed again, this time with a call. Reluctantly, he answered.
“Hey,” he said, voice flat.
“Joost, it’s late,” your voice held a mix of concern and frustration. “You said you’d be home soon.”
“I’m working, Y/N. I told you I’m busy,” he snapped, his patience fraying.
“You’re always busy. When do we get time together? When do I get to see you?”
Joost’s frustration boiled over. “Do you think I want to be stuck here? Do you think this is fun for me? I’m doing this for us.”
Your voice softened, but the hurt was evident. “It doesn’t feel like it’s for us anymore. It feels like you’re choosing your career over our relationship.”
He slammed his hand on the desk. “I’m trying to build something here, Y/N. Something that matters. Why can’t you understand that?”
There was a long pause on the other end. When you spoke again, your voice was barely a whisper. “I miss you, Joost. I miss us.”
A pang of guilt twisted in his chest, but he pushed it down. “I’ll come home when I can. Don’t wait up.”
He hung up before you could respond, tossing the phone aside. He tried to return to the music, but the conversation lingered, a dark cloud over his thoughts. Eventually, he packed up and drove home, the silence of the empty streets amplifying his guilt.
When he walked into your apartment, you were sitting on the couch, eyes red from crying. You looked up at him, a mix of hope and sadness in your gaze. Joost avoided your eyes, dropping his bag by the door.
“You’re home,” you said softly.
“Yeah,” he muttered, heading straight to the kitchen. He poured himself a drink, the silence between you two stretching painfully.
You followed him, your voice trembling. “We need to talk, Joost.”
“Not now, Y/N,” he said, downing the drink. “I’m exhausted.”
“But we need to,” you insisted, your voice breaking. “I can’t keep doing this.”
Joost turned to face you, his frustration boiling over. “Doing what? Supporting me? Believing in me? Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?”
Tears welled in your eyes. “I do support you. But it feels like I’m the only one trying to keep us together.”
He scoffed, pouring another drink. “Maybe because you don’t understand what I’m going through. The pressure, the expectations. You have no idea.”
“That’s not fair,” you whispered, tears spilling down your cheeks. “I’ve been here for you every step of the way. But you’re shutting me out.”
Joost stared at you , anger and guilt warring within him. “I can’t deal with this right now,” he said, turning away. “I need to work.”
“Work?” your voice was filled with disbelief. “You’re always working. When will you make time for us?”
“I don’t know, okay?” he snapped. “I don’t know.”
your shoulders sagged, your face crumpling in despair. “I love you, Joost. But I can’t keep feeling like I’m not important to you.”
Joost felt a stab of panic. “You are important. But this is important too. I can’t just drop everything.”
“I’m not asking you to drop everything,” you pleaded. “I’m asking you to make room for me, for us.”
He rubbed his face, exhaustion weighing heavily on him. “I don’t have time for this right now, Y/N. I need to sleep.”
You watched him for a moment, then nodded, defeated. “Fine. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
Joost mumbled something noncommittal and headed to the bedroom, leaving you standing alone in the kitchen, tears silently falling.
Tumblr media
The next day, Joost was back in the studio, but his mind kept drifting to your words, your tears. The guilt gnawed at him, but he buried it under layers of work. He couldn’t afford to falter now, not when so much was riding on his success.
Days turned into weeks, and the distance between you two grew. Your attempts to reach out were met with cold indifference or outright frustration. Each argument ended with Joost storming out or shutting down, leaving you more heartbroken and isolated.
One evening, Joost came home to find you packing a suitcase. Panic surged through him. “What are you doing?”
You looked up, eyes red and swollen. “I can’t do this anymore, Joost. I’m leaving.”
His heart dropped. “You’re leaving me?”
“I don’t want to,” you said, voice trembling. “But you’ve already left me. You’re here, but you’re not present. You’re always somewhere else.”
“I’m trying to make a future for us,” he argued, desperation creeping into his voice.
“But at what cost?” you cried. “I’m losing you, and I can’t keep fighting for someone who doesn’t fight for me.”
Joost felt something crack inside him. He crossed the room, grabbing your hands. “Y/N, please. Don’t go.”
He pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize how much I was hurting you.”
You clung to him, sobbing softly. “I just want us back. I want to feel like I matter to you.”
“You do,” he whispered, guilt and love crashing over him. “You matter more than anything. I’ve been so blind, so focused on my career that I forgot what really matters.”
you pulled back, looking into his eyes. “Can we fix this?”
Joost nodded, determination hardening his resolve. “Yes. I’ll make time for us. I’ll find a balance. I can’t lose you, Y/N.”
You studied his face, searching for sincerity. “Promise me.”
“I promise,” he said, voice steady. “I’ll be here. For you. For us.”
You took a shaky breath, then nodded. “Okay. Let’s try.”
Joost kissed your forehead, relief flooding through him. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he was determined to make it work. You would rebuild your relationship, one step at a time.
That night, as you lay together, Joost held you close, vowing never to let his ambition overshadow his love for you again. The path ahead was uncertain, but with you by his side, he knew they could face any challenge together. And for the first time in a long while, he felt a glimmer of hope.

ok nana unsubtly kicked me in the ass about this and i realized they were mostly done anyways so here we go! only four months late!
best stylings 2023 - first half
runners' up
rising - triples
there are two good stages with funky athletic wear, but it wasn't enough to bump it up to the overall category. mcountdown 230216, the show 230221
abyss - woodz
didn't promote it which is a shame, but the variety in the costuming for the different versions of himself is well done and it's a beautifully shot bottle mv.
moody - superkind
you got a fake member you gotta make it spooky!!! he's not real that's inherently spooky!!! anyways this is what i wanted them to do right off the bat some i'm glad they finally got my psychic memo.
golden hour - mark
absolutely fucking crazy. fantastic imagery. i think i talked about it earlier in the year but it's such a stupid and hilarious idea to make a whole diss track mv about a several year old meme and then actually make it strange and weird art. obsessed with it still.
sos - kang daniel
i'm also including the wasteland music sequence here because holy shit when this dropped i lost my mind. i'm always surprised by what kang daniel does bc i can never predict it, which over the last few years i'm coming to enjoy. and i absolutely did not expect him to produce basically an entire wild west mad max movie with equal the production value???? literally how did he do this. how. and then everyone paid it dirt??? it's an amazing mv and one of my faves of the year, the only reason it's not bumped up categories is bc although the styling was actually one of the only times tactical gear has been thematically relevant to a cb, its been so overused that it has no punch anymore, which makes me sad bc the tactical gear was good! and a good choice! and i feel bad saying it has no punch bc it should have!
small talk - kim sungkyu
we love when sungkyu acknowledges that he's annoying and a loser. all these outfits were so losercore. i loved this deviation from form for him; he's normally king wailer supreme, but he does smooth upbeat rock very well and it's a nice contrast with the capital y yearning that's in the bsides. it's only here bc he didn't promote much and i'm mad at him for putting dancing in the mv and then not dancing in any of the stages. mcountdown 230629, music core 230708, inkigayo 230709
ay-yo - nct 127
this is just here for taeyong's urchin outfit. well i'm a bit of liar it is actually a really fun early 00s inspired mv, but we all know the urchin outfit stole the show.
stamp on it - got the beat
i will hear NO slander against got the beat in this house, this was a great mv i love hot women planning a heist.
tricky house - xikers
FANTASTIC debut. does a really great job of establishing a character for them as a group and it's got such unique flavour. kq has made great use of their ateez money and also the lessons that they learned with ateez. i'm excited to see where xikers goes in the future, and since i'm writing this section from the future i can say that i do like where they've gone with full confidence. the only reason it didn't make the top list is bc the styling is kinda average for this era of kpop.
best overall
rose blossom - h1 key
youtube
i was aware of h1key before this but they hadn't really grabbed me, but damn this cb was so good. the mv is a nice mix of story and dance sections. plus a surreal section in the middle! and by virtue of being like the first cb of the year, they got the jump on this alt girl look that would be the dominating look for ggs this year. and i do think first did it best in this case, all the looks are smart with good group synergy and and a lot of creativity; when you do this type of alt-y punky style it's important that there's a diy element to it, which a lot of groups fail to grasp bc stylists are obsessed with luxury branding. h1key manages to avoid that mostly by being flops, but i'd like to believe its also bc their creative team cared about capturing the true spirit of the style.
stages: music bank 230106, mcountdown 230202, music bank 230203, mcountdown 230119, inkigayo 230108
tic tac - 8turn
youtube
honestly i was kinda ready to not like these guys since mnh shat the bed with chungha, but then i remembered that the mnh creative team is very good at their jobs, so here we are. this is one of the few debuts/cbs this year where every single stage was a hit and it was very hard to narrow down to just a few for here; lots of good emphasis on shape and colour and accent pieces with repeated motifs, which was a big part of the fashion in the 00s that they are remixing here. very strong debut especially for so early in the year and i'm looking forward to more.
stages: show champion 230208, mcountdown 230202, music bank 230203, show champion 230222, music core 230211, mcountdown 230223, music core 230225, inkigayo 230226
bonus: this absolutely hysterical 4minute cover (they even got the name bucket hats! not in the stage, but they had them in photos)
sweet juice - purple kiss
youtube
i'm not normally a fan of wes anderson or wes anderson inspired aesthetics because i find them too twee and perfect, but this wasn't too direct in it's inspirations and definitely had the spooky purki flavour. i really liked the uniformity of the costuming, both literally using uniform motifs and using the same fabrics; i really do miss the days when kpop costumes were design to actually be costumes with the group image in mind.
stages: mcountdown 230216, inkigayo 230219, music core 230225, music bank 230224, inkigayo 230226, music core 230304, inkigayo 230305
sour & sweet - bambam
youtube
bambam again proving that he's one of the few idols that knows his shit in terms of interesting styling. also if anyone knows where he filmed the mv/performance vid please tell me i need to know bc its so beautiful.
stages: mcountdown 230330, music bank 230331, inkigayo 230402, music bank 230407, music core 230408, inkigayo 230409,
bsides: music bank 230331, inkigayo 230409,
macarena - blitzers
youtube
i'm so so so glad blitzers got a bit more attention this year bc they deserve it and macarena was so good. perfect culmination of their goofy ass talents and the unusual creativity of their performance + creative directors. i'm even linking the mv teaser here bc its so goofy and offbeat and different. honestly i'd recommend watching as many of the stages as you can find bc they do different intros every time and it's very funny, but unfortunately tumblr has a link limit so i can't link them all.
stages: show champion 230426, music bank 230428, music core 230429, inkigayo 230430, inkigayo 230514, music core 230527
bouncy - ateez
youtube
yea yea yea nobody is surprised so sue me. this was a crazy followup to halazia and proved that ateez can deftly switch between serious dramatic performance and comedic but no less dramatic. i'm very happy to see how much work has been going into the main ateez mvs in the last year because it has very clear and striking direction that fits both their performance style and their creative ambition, as well as their growth as a group. also yea i'm not immune to neon cowboy shit.
stages: inkigayo 230618, music bank 230616, the show 230620, mcountdown 230622, music bank 230623, mcountdown 230629, music core 230701, inkigayo 230702
kick it 4 now - tnx
youtube
tnx had an absolutely banging 2023 and although kick it 4 now is has superior and more comprehensive production, love or die is also a very good cb, and both of them together have shown that they have a really good grasp on the genre of teen listlessness, from two different directions. kick it 4 now has been i think the most successful cb to actually capture the feel of first gen, and the creative team did a lot of extra work in order to pull that off. from all the graphic design to the goofy lil 90s style music show promos, to the styling, they had a clear goal and achieved it. i think it will be quite difficult for any other group to pull it off this thoroughly.
stages: music bank 230609 (the giant lyrics!!!), music core 230610, show champion 230614 (more giant lyrics!!), music core 230617, mcountdown 230622
shooting star + left right - xg
youtube
youtube
we all already know that left right was my most listened song this year, but the fact that the mv was b movie sci fi star trek themed? it's like simon made everything about this specifically for me thank you. xg blew everyone out of the water this year on every front; music, styling, choreography, you name it. i said i wanted groups to commit to their bits and i got it. they were completely unafraid to actually commit to the y2k nostalgia AND to harajuku styling; a lot of groups have weakly pawed at it but always back away due to the fact that harajuku and y2k are not actually 'pretty' fashion trends, which leaves their attempts half assed with no real understanding of why and how those trends happened. xg came saw and conquered the current trend in a way that only a japanese gg can do. my only annoyance is that they tone down the stylings when they promote on music shows, and i know why they do it, so it's not an annoyance at them, it's an annoyance at everyone else.
stages: shooting star - mcountdown 230202, con-tour 230217, the show 230221, inkigayo 230212, inkigayo 230205, con-tour 230224
left right - the show 230228, show champion 230222
circle - onew
youtube
absolute masterpiece. album of the year in every way. it's a profoundly beautiful unpacking of grief and the sadness that comes with acknowledging that things change, and the way that in that change life and humanity and story is eternal. a circle. the theatre imagery combined with the 60s style children's tv show use their similar but contrasting forms to illustrate the same point: something can be eternal and fleeting at the same time, and that heightens its value rather than diminishing it. the promo campaign was so thought out as well, i love the integration of the theatre imagery into the highlight medley and i highly recommend you watch it if you haven't. one of the best cbs from a solo artist in years.
stages: mcountdown 230309, music core 230311, music bank 230317, inkigayo 230319
--
ignore the fact this was almost five months late even though i started writing in like. november. i'm busy ok. it's planting season and i have to send so much post. the choreos post is the next most finished so that will probably be out before the styling second half one.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
2021
The minute you turned 19, you knew what you wanted. Even before you turned 19, you knew what you were, and you knew what you wanted to make out of it. You were hot. Fierce, confident, and eye catching. Everyone knew it, too. You turned heads every time you went to the headquarters, seeing people stare at you out of the corner of your eye.
Before you were of age, though, you never openly exposed yourself in such a way. It was all a tough girl kind of concept. You tended to stay on the neutral, dark, concepts rather than cuter ones. If you were given an idea, you found a way to design it and stick it to your niche. You always preferred to do what you liked rather than being forced into a box with little room to do anything your way; it demotivated you.
As a solo artist, you had lots of creative freedom, being able to write your own songs and even nitpick at how you wanted them to sound. Sometimes you would just need a kickstart or a hint from another fellow producer to get the ideas flowing, and boy, did your mind flow with ideas.
Sometimes you were labeled as ‘provocative’ or ‘controversial’. Some even said you were acting too mature for your age. But it never hurts to get a head start.
When you weren’t music making, you often dabbled in modeling with your partnered companies or for magazines, really, any source of promotion. You felt even more confident while doing so as well, which further boosted your productivity in the studio. It all came full circle.
You tried to do what you like while also balancing music, and you managed to make it work. People looked up to you. Newer groups admired you, your stage presence, how you gave 100% in every single performance that you did, how you wouldn’t settle for anything less than perfect, how much effort you put into practicing.
You idolized your own fair share of groups as well. BTS, Blackpink, Twice; any group debuting for longer than you have, you admired. When you saw Suga crack a smile at your MAMA performance, you nearly broke character on stage, but held it in by letting your heart race and stopping your face from faltering. When Dahyun talked about you during one of her lives, saying you were cool and how she longed for confidence like yours, you nearly fainted on the spot.
You were still a growing girl with people you looked up to, inspired by everything that they do and how you could apply aspects from their performances to yours. You were truly committed to your craft.
You were invited onto a talk show, along with another group, whose name was not revealed to you. Off camera, you heard the footsteps of multiple people passing by, yet you didn’t know who since it was supposedly a surprise for both you and the other idols.
You adjust your mic, the cameras rolling and the MC and group introducing themselves. Though their voices together are loud, you can’t make out what they are saying, only adding more to the suspense. You’re suddenly given the cue by a staff member, walking out and seeing five men sitting together in their chairs with surprised expressions.
You’re equally as surprised, knowing you’ve seen their faces at previous award shows. “Tomorrow by Together?” You point at them, all of them jumping and freaking out at the fact you knew who they were. “Y/N, meet TXT!” The MC says, letting you sit in your chair as the boys calm down.
“Have you two met formally before?”
“I think once backstage, we were on Inkigayo together.” You answer, the event fully coming back to their memories as you mentioned it. “Do you remember our names?” Taehyun asks innocently, watching as your eyes scan over each of their faces before answering. You point at each respective member as you say their names. “Soobin. Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, Hueningkai.” They all cheer and applaud as you dramatically bow towards them and the camera.
“Is there something in particular you like about each other’s music?” The MC asks.
“TXT has a certain flow in their music that manages to get stuck in my head; No Rules and Frost have been playing on loop for the past few days since those are my favourites. And the rhythm and the way each song plays a role within a story is something I really like.”
They all nod, the MC turning their head towards the boy group. “Hueningkai should answer for us.” Yeonjun ushers, patting the maknae on the back. “Yeah, he has your music on 24/7. Nonstop.” Beomgyu adds, only making Kai even more shy.
“Well, Y/N has a really significant, gritty style to her music and a satisfying edge that balances out throughout her songs, so each song is different in its own way. She really pays attention to the role of each instrument in the background and how well they balance together, and her ballads are really well put together because of this. Of course, all of her songs are good, but her ballads stick out even more to me. They’re usually the ones I listen to the most.”
“He’s good.” You say, all of them laughing. “Frost is actually Hueningkai’s song.” Soobin adds. “Really?” The maknae nods, all redfaced and flustered. “That’s why it’s so good then. You did the laugh at the beginning?” He nods again. “I picked it up from you, a little bit.”
“That’s amazing. I loved it, it gave the song the whole like, badass vibe.” You say, immediately covering your mouth. “I’m sorry, I don’t know if I can say that.” They all laugh it off, going back to the topic at hand.
As the interview progresses, you slowly find yourself getting more comfortable with the boys in front of you, laughing and joking around as the questions go on and on. They treat you like a close friend though you’ve only known each other for an hour, and your heart is filled with a familiar warmth as you even fall out of your chair from laughing so hard.
You compose yourself before the interview ends, and when the cameras cut, it goes silent, all of TXT staring at you, and you staring back. Hueningkai is the first to break, everyone else following right after.
━━━━━
the way he looks at her
hyuka had hearts in his eyes the whole time i swear
Y/N ONE CHANCE PLEASE
she is literally slaying so hard and all she’s doing is sitting in her chair
id freak out too if i was in the presence of y/n
IDK IF I WANNA BE TXT OR Y/N
hueningkai finally formally meeting his celeb crush guys the character development is real
━━━━━
You lurked a lot on social media, having your own personal accounts and such. This also meant you saw all those comments about the tension between you and Hueningkai specifically. They weren’t wrong about it; in fact, there was something there between you two that you couldn’t determine.
It was like a chain operated by a crank that wanted to pull you two closer together. You felt yourself drawn to him, and he felt drawn to you, yet you didn’t know why.
“Hueningkai has the biggest crush on you. He has some of your posters hung up in our room and always stays quiet if your performance is on. He never stays quiet for anything.” Taehyun said, which stuck with you the rest of the interview.
During the recording, you couldn’t help but feel your eyes drawn to him specifically, and how he’d already be staring at you when you looked at him. He could feel it too, the crank wanting to turn. You both were resisting against it, not letting the chain pull you two any closer.
He was cute, for sure. His innocence seemed to radiate off of him, and the way it contrasted with your maturity made you wonder why there was such a significant tension between you two.
So while you sat in HYBE’s cafe on the 19th floor, sipping on an iced chocolate while staring down at the streets below, you tried to take your mind off of him. But it was the most fun you’ve had with another group, and you wanted to relive the laughter in your head over and over again for as long as you could remember it, but Hueningkai was always the first person that came back to your mind when you tried to reminisce. As much as you liked it, it also felt like torture.
The doors of the elevator open with a ding, Hueningkai ordering a lime bachaas at the counter, noticing a familiar figure at one of the window seats. He gets his drink, taking a sip before guessing. “Y/N?” You turn around at the mention of your name, noticing Hueningkai who’s waving at you. You wave back, wondering what to do. It’d be awkward to leave it at this.
You nudge the chair out, letting him sit down next to you. “Are you busy?” You ask, knowing it’s late at night but not late enough until practices usually end. “Just finished. Had some dinner.” He’s usually rambling when he’s asked questions, but maybe today tired him out. You can’t blame him, you were equally as drained. “You watched our episode?”
He huffs with a laugh. “Yeah. I saw the comments too. We’re everywhere.”
“Hope you don’t mind. The internet is crazy.”
“I’m aware of that. I don’t mind at all. Do you?”
You shake your head. “I don’t really care.”
A comfortable silence lingers over the two of you. It isn’t awkward in any way, merely the sounds of the machines behind the counter serving as background noise. “You really picked it up from me?”
“Huh?”
“That laugh. In Frost.”
He awkwardly chuckles. “Ah, well, it’s a bit strange to say it out loud but, when I was recording that part, I tried to envision what it was like in your shoes. All… cool and villain like.”
“You think I’m a villain?”
“Wrong word… more like dominant. When we were sent the sample recording, I could immediately see you doing the song as your own, like I could hear you doing the intro itself. When I imagined your vibe, that’s how it came out. Is that weird?”
“No, I love it. I can understand why you think that way. You did a great job, by the way. Really sweet of you to think of me like that. Your performance for that song too, fuckin’ sexy.” You cover your mouth, looking around and seeing no one else around. “Can I swear?”
He nods with a small laugh. “Sexy?” He asks. “If I’m being honest, you looked really fucking hot up there. Just saying.” His face goes warm, partly at the fact you called their performance ‘sexy’, but mostly at the fact you called him hot right to his face with no shame at all. “Are you flirting with me?”
“Take it how you will, I’m just telling the truth.” Your eyes meet his for the first time during the whole conversation. You break first and finish off your drink, his gaze enough to intimidate yet fluster you at the same time. “I’m gonna go now. Hopefully I run into you again.” You get up, about to leave when you feel a hand tugging on your sleeve, stopping you.
“Um, do you want me to walk you back? We live in the same building and all, I just– it’s dark out.” He rambles, a smile creeping up on your lips. “So you’re cute and you’re a gentleman? I really found the one.” It doesn’t directly answer his question, but the compliment has his heart racing faster than before. “Sure. Let’s go.”
As you walk back to the dorms, you manage to make small talk with Kai, filling in the silent gaps when needed. “I do appreciate your attention to detail.”
“For what?”
“When you were talking about my music. I really like hearing other people’s interpretations on them and what sticks out and such. I’ll be sure to write more ballads for you.” You start off, joking around. “I think it’s a bit funny you view me as someone higher and you’re casually hanging out with them right now. The only difference is that I debuted after you did.”
“You flattered me too much already tonight, Y/N. One more thing and I might just faint from your words alone.”
“Pleased to know I make such an impact on you.”
“You’ve made quite an impact on me for a while now.”
Unlocking your door, you tell Kai to wait outside for a moment, handing him a folded slip of paper. “Thank you for the peace, Kai. Goodnight.” You go to shut the door, opening it slightly again. “Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” You add, Kai walking back to the elevator after you shut the door. He doesn’t unfold the slip until he reaches his own dorm, numbers written down.
It was your phone number, words written right below it.
I enjoyed talking to you tonight. Text me whenever, and hopefully we can talk like this again.
His mind goes back to your words from earlier. ‘Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.’
Was it because you called him hot and that he was more secluded on the way back? It was only because he didn’t know what to say after. What was he even supposed to say to that? Thank you? You too?
Before he went to bed, he added your number to his contacts, and hid the note in one of his drawers. He realized one thing, though.
You were definitely flirting with him.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The elevator door opens, Hueningkai alerted by the ding and turning around to see who it was. Your hood was on, yet he still recognized you, messing around and simply staring at you the whole time to see how long it would take for you to notice.
You see him out of the corner of your eye as you put your phone away, sheepishly waving at him as he proudly waves back, gesturing for you to sit with him.
“Do you wanna see something?” He asks, which grabs your attention. You nod, Hueningkai taking out his phone and opening his emails, tapping on something else. He fully reveals the screen to you, showing photos of him modelling for a campaign. He scrolls through them, and you simply sit there, admiring how he glows in every single one.
“God, you look so good in all of them.” You mutter, hearing him giggle as he shuts his phone off. “You’re the first person to see them.”
“Really?” He nods, running his hand through his hair. “I feel so special.” You smile, wondering how his silly demeanour could turn into that in front of a camera. “Do you want me to send them to you?”
“Can you really do that? It already feels a bit illegal just looking at them.”
“No one needs to know.”
You huff, accepting his offer. “If you’re encouraging it.” He turns on his phone again, sending the photos to you with a ding. “Have you been busy today?” He asks, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Writing. Dancing. I’m performing for KBS, so I’ve been rehearsing. Speaking of which, I just had an idea.” He leans in closer, intrigued.
“Could you… record a few lines for me? It’s for my festival performance; it isn’t a lot, I swear. Just some dialogue. Whenever you aren’t busy, of course.”
“I’m available tomorrow.”
“Great! Cool, I’ll text you more about it. You’re on the setlist too, right?”
“Yeah. Just our title track.”
“Looking forward to it already.”
“What song are you covering, anyways?”
“U-Go-Girl, then transitioning to my title.” His eyes widen, remembering the dialogue that would have to be voiced over by him. “Oh.” Thinking about it alone is almost embarrassing, but he takes pride in the fact that he’s the first person you thought of to record such… important lines. “If you don’t want to, I can find someone else–“
“No, no! I can do it, yeah, I can. I want to. Sounds fun.” He cuts you off, sounding almost too excited. “You know what you’re getting yourself into and not just doing it because I asked.”
“Really, I’d be honoured. Playing a part in your performance.”
“Good. I’d have a hard time finding someone else then, anyways. Wasn’t planning on asking anybody else.”
“So I was first pick?”
You pause, looking for an answer. “You’d add your own little Hueningkai flair to it. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but you’re gonna help me make it stand out from the rest. And that’s exactly what I want.” You always had a thing for being different. Different in a good and influential way, in a way where you wouldn’t be compared to others, rather others were compared to you.
You yawn, covering your mouth and letting your head hang to the side. “Today must’ve taken a toll on you, huh?” You feel his sleeve briefly brush against your hood. “Dance was… hard today. I couldn’t get the moves right even though it’s the easiest dance to ever exist, my brain was mush, I was failing to comprehend anything– I did great in everything else but the performing, stage presence part of it.”
“Don’t beat yourself up. We all have bad days, and it’s okay to feel horrible about it, but you learn to move on and improve. Trust me, I should know.” Kai advises reassuringly, his hand having a gentle grip on your shoulder. “Thanks, Kai. I just feel like a bit of a lazy ass not being able to do things at the pace I usually do.”
“You haven’t been overworking yourself, have you?”
“Not necessarily.”
“If you need to take a little break, take one. Better to be conscious to perform than not perform at all.” He jokes it off, even making you giggle a little as well. “I’ll take your advice to heart, Kai. Means a lot that you care.”
“You aren’t lazy, by the way. I’ve seen your performances and judging from how you exceed everyone’s expectations, you are far from that. You’re a hard worker, Y/N.”
“You really know how to flatter a woman, do you?” His face flushes on the spot, instantly a flustered mess. “Like you said, I’m just telling the truth.” He says, mostly spitting out words that he isn’t entirely sure of. “And you pay attention! My goodness, I’ll never find another guy like you. I’ll treasure you forever, Hueningkai.”
“Stop that…” He murmurs, still flustered and warm faced.
“Don’t be embarrassed! I mean it. I’ll never regret ever knowing you and being a friend of yours.” He only hides his face deeper into his hoodie, giggling as you take a sip of your drink. “Don’t fall in love yet, Huening, you should take me out on a date first.” You tease, finishing off your drink and tapping on his shoulder as you get up to leave “Don’t make false accusations, you’ll get in trouble for that.” He follows behind you, throwing away his own cup.
“I really did appreciate the advice, though. Maybe I was a bit too harsh on myself. I promise I’ll try to be more self aware.” You look up at him with a nod as the elevator doors close with a ding, and he nods back, giving you a thumbs up.
When you arrive at your dorm, you finally figure out a time. “Are you free at 3 tomorrow?” You ask. “For what?”
“For recording, duh. Was this not the first thing we talked about?”
“It was actually the second thing.”
“Okay, smartass, that was rhetorical.” You laugh it off, waiting for his confirmation. “Yeah, I am. I’ll take some time out of my practice for it.”
“I can do it sometime else if you’re busy, then–“
“Y/N, I’m practicing all week, it’s fine. You won’t get my recording in time if you were to do it when my schedule isn’t actually packed. I’ll let them know, okay? Don’t worry about it.”
“Fine, but if I get a complaint that pulling you out of practice was unprofessional I’m blaming you.”
He chuckles. “Fair enough.”
“See you tomorrow, then?” You peek your head out the door at him, tiredly staring at him. “See you. Get some rest, Y/N.”
“You too, Kai.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Hueningkai steps out of his practice, following the directions you gave him through text, seeing a few staff members outside the recording booth. They let him in, shutting the door and putting on the given headphones. “Hi Kai. You ready? Need water or anything?” You’re sitting in the producer’s booth at the computer with another staff member.
“I’m good.”
“I’ll play the sample recording for you. Unless you want to go straight into it?”
“Sample.”
Kai had a way of mimicry that you admired. It stayed true to the original, but his voice made it stand out the exactly how you wanted it to, that he got it only after the second recording. You play it back to him, this time layered on top of your main vocals, the part transitioning to your song being the most prominent section where his voice really stands out. “Do you wanna rerecord anything? Personally I think this is the take.”
“Then I’m good.”
You frown at the way he describes himself, even though he isn’t entirely wrong. “Alright, then that’s it. Thanks for coming in.”
“Should I see you later today?” He asks, the other staff member looking at you. “Yeah, sure. Just get back, I feel I’ve taken you for too long already.” Hueningkai begins to tear bits off the lyric sheet, the sound of it reverberating in the room you’re in. You simply watch as he rolls the bits into tiny crumpled balls, leaving them on the stand.
“At least clean up after yourself. You can walk a girl home but can’t pick up your own trash?” You joke, Kai’s ears going red as he takes the bits with him, muttering a goodbye before leaving the room. “You’re close with him?” The staff asks, finicking with the audio.
“Yeah. Why?”
“Nothing. You two seemed to just click instantly. Do you wanna hear how it sounds now?”
As the sky darkens, you wait for a response from Hueningkai almost too eagerly, checking your phone every time it buzzed in your pocket, hoping it was him. You stopped by your rendezvous, just to take a seat and listen to the recording over and over again; it was that good that you wanted to put it on loop and just admire it as many times as you could.
“Boo!”
Hueningkai pounces on you, his hands grasping your shoulders to make you jump. “Kai– do not do that! If I had a drink in my hand right now, I would’ve thrown it at your face.”
“So mean!”
“Reflexes.”
He sits down next to you, leaning in to see what took up all your attention that you didn’t notice him lurking behind you. “Wanna listen? It’s the backup vocals for my performance.” You offer him an earbud as he accepts, playing up until the transition. “And that’s most of it. For now.”
“Feels a little bit wrong to get early access to this.”
“It was only part of it. And now you know how I felt when I saw those photos of you.”
“They’re up now, so nothing to worry about. I saw your messages but that was during water break, so I didn’t get to respond. Figured I’d find you here.”
“I felt like giving up and going back to the dorms. This was a last resort.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t get to even text you afterwards. Slipped my mind.”
“It’s fine. This is all I wanted to show you anyways.”
He pauses for a moment, staring at the ground trying to remember what it was about the KBS festival he was going to say. “Oh! Right, I just remembered I was gonna tell you something.”
“What is it?”
He leans in closer and whispers something.
“I’m dying my hair.”
“Really? What colour?”
“Brown. Then after the festival, black.”
“Are you getting a new concept?” He nods excitedly, his grin unable to be contained. “I will keep my mouth shut. But I’m excited to see what’s to come!”
“I think you’ll like it. We’ll be working on recordings after the festival.”
“Oh?” You were intrigued. “I’ll like it?”
“It seems like something you’d enjoy, at least. I’m hoping you will.”
“Now you have me wanting to know more. You know this is very unprofessional of you, speaking about your group’s plans with another colleague.” You poke fun at him, leaning in. “I’m speaking to you as a friend, not a business partner. And with how much unreleased information we’ve been sharing with each other, it’s safe to say that we are more than just business partners.”
“I feel like a schoolgirl sharing secrets with someone.” You giggle, Kai’s smile growing. “I heard somewhere they call you Hyuka, can I call you that?” Why did the name sound so perfect when it rolled off your tongue? He did his best to stop his face from heating up and replied. “Yeah. You can.”
“It’s cute. I like it.”
He doesn’t reply, avoiding eye contact with you and simply replying with a nod. “You really get flustered over the smallest things, don’t you? Nothing to be ashamed of.”
“Maybe it’s because I can’t believe the Y/N keeps flirting with me. Not very professional of you.”
“Oh, the irony! It’s corroding my heart…” You overdramatize, earning a snicker from the boy seated beside you. “If it makes you uncomfortable, I can stop. I hope you know that wasn’t my intention.”
“I know. And it doesn’t. If anything, my heart beats so fast that I just can’t think of anything to say to you because I’m so focused on the fact my heart is racing in my ears.”
“So you like it?”
“I mean, who wouldn’t want to be called cute by the L/N Y/N? If anything, I’m lucky enough to be talking with you like this.”
“Now you’re the one flirting with me?” You laugh, checking your phone. “I have an interview tomorrow. I’m a bit nervous.”
“Why? You’re always great in interviews. You’re comedic, you’re stylish–“
“It’s one where the MC asks questions to get under your skin. Like a hot seat.”
“Oh.”
“I’m not… I’m not very open with my personal life. I don’t usually talk about it. He might go that far.”
“Can you not cancel?”
“Too late now. I was booked for it but didn’t care to ask what it was about since I was too busy with other things.” You feel his hand rub your shoulder reassuringly, giving you a look that said ‘it’s gonna be okay’. You sheepishly smile, his hand not leaving you for as long as you stay with him. “I just don’t want to get into controversy right before that big performance. It’s gonna ruin my confidence and my performance is gonna be shit and when I look back on it I’m gonna hate myself–“
“Y/N, you’re gonna be okay. Your fanbase would understand wholeheartedly if they are really fans of yours. They would defend you until the end of the line. Have you seen what they can do? It’s a bit terrifying.” He says, making you chuckle. “I get why you’re so nervous, but if the episode is that bad, they’d have a reason to not stream it.”
Hueningkai’s words stay with you the entire night leading up to the interview, where you’re seated in the chair and the cameras are rolling. The questions start off innocent at first, typical questions you’d get on any other interview.
“What is it like being a role model for newer idols?”
“What is your favourite performance outfit so far?”
“Is there a specific place you’d like to go to for a world tour or concert?”
Then it slowly started getting more… iffy.
“Do you have a ghost writer?”
“Did Bighit force you into the ‘sexy’ concept when you turned 19?”
“How many times have you cried over your duties as an idol?”
When it got into relationships with others, however, that’s where you drew the line.
“Have you ever had a boyfriend before?” The MC asks with a shameless smile on his face. “No.”
“Is there anyone you have your eyes on right now? A celebrity crush?”
Your face begins to burn red, your heart pounding so loud and fast you can hear it in your ears, and you’re struggling to spit out logical answers.
“Not in particular.”
“Sunghoon from Enhypen? You two are known to be close friends. Is he your type?”
“Please don’t bring my friends into this.”
“P1Harmony, what was his name… Jiung!“
“I don’t–“
“What about Hueningkai, the boy from TXT? Ever since that interview, people have been endorsing you two as a pair.”
“I don’t think you should be dictating someone to fulfill my relationship status. You have absolutely no power over me and my relationships with others, and God knows everything about me and my friends while you don’t, so keep your mouth shut.”
The whole room goes silent. You’re holding back tears and you want to swear at him so bad, but this seemed to be impactful enough already, so your eyes stare daggers into his soul, as if they pierced through his heart to make it stop beating. “Well, you certainly live up to your fiesty trait.” He laughs off, switching to the final cue card.
At the end, in your dressing room, you’re so overwhelmed with humiliation and embarrassment, the tears that couldn’t escape your eyes begin to flood again as you pull out your phone, the first person to come to mind being Hueningkai.
hyuka
are you there?
hiii!!!
how did it go?
horrible
it all went to shit
oh… are you okay?
can i see you later? same place?
sure, ill be there by 9
Your hood is on for the rest of the day, pace relentlessly fast as you walk into the headquarters. The face ID for the elevator can barely recognize you with how much you’re trying to hold back from crying, and you avoid any eye contact with the staff that join you in the small space. You finally look up when you reach the 19th floor, seeing Hueningkai turned around and looking at you, and you begin to break down then and there.
“Woah, Y/N…” He runs over, catching you before you can fall on your knees. “What happened? What did he ask?” You feel like shit knowing Kai is trying to help you, but you aren’t able to say anything because you’re so overwhelmed with tears and how embarrassing you look crying in front of him.
“Do you want to come to my place and we can talk about it? Or do you want to go to yours? The boys are just practicing vocals so it’ll be just us, no need to worry about someone overhearing.” He’s so extremely patient with you, making you cry even more. You point at him, meaning you want to go to his place, because it was the first thing that came to mind. “But what about you?”
“Don’t worry about me. I’m only worried about you.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
who does he think he is???
i cannot believe the staff did not notice how uncomfy y/n was even after she yelled at them
the fact he just laughed it off like what?
this was so incredibly disrespectful, i dont even know how this show is still up
who is allowing this to be aired theres clearly something wrong with this
he knew he crossed a line and did not care how stupid can you be
i knew there was something off about this
imagine being scolded by y/n id disappear off the face of the planet forever
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You sat quiet in your waiting room, scrolling through the posts on social media all written about you and that damn interview. You knew you were in the right, and you hoped everyone else knew that too. Luckily, they did. They didn’t bash you for anything, their dissatisfaction going towards the MC and the show.
You received endless support and praise for standing up for yourself and putting the host in his place, and you were so incredibly relieved for that. You watched the show broadcasting patiently on the TV in your room, TXT’s title track beginning to play. You were so fixated on it that you almost forgot you were going on next, the staff calling you backstage.
When their performance ends and they come offstage, you clap and cheer for all of them as they pass by, waving at Hueningkai enthusiastically when you see him. “Hyuka!” Even under the dim light, you see him with a tired smile as he runs over to you. “Wow…” He looks at you, eyes trailing over your outfit. “You look good.”
“I could say the same for you.” Maybe it was the lighting, or how nervous you were, but seeing your friend post-performance trying to catch his breath, sweat dripping down his face, his cheeky smile as his gaze with those tired eyes doesn’t waver from yours, you knew it was wrong to be thinking such things. But he looked hot. Really hot.
“I’ll see you in your room?” You ask, and he nods, head turning away first and eyes last. God, he had a gaze that could kill you.
The metronome begins playing in your earpiece once you’re on stage, and you let your confidence take control. Hyuka’s voice plays in your ear, and if you’re being honest, the one thing that usually runs through your mind is thinking about how cool you are to be on stage and performing for such a large audience. Did it make you seem like you were full of yourself? A little bit. Did you care? No.
When the song changes, so does the mood. The lights change colour and are different brightnesses, and so does your outfit. You discard your jacket and the skirt you’re wearing, adorning a matching pair of shorts and a sleeveless shirt, and a fishnet longsleeve underneath. Your title track begins, and the crowd screams so loud you can hear them over your instrumental.
After the rush of adrenaline from being able to make the crowd scream louder than ever, you walk offstage, saying thank you to all the staff as you pass by. You make a quick pitstop to your room, grabbing a few things before trying to find TXT’s. The next performers pass by and give you cheer silently, and you can’t help but smile back despite your exhaustion. You knock on their door, a staff member opening it. “Hi Y/N. How come you aren’t in your room right now?”
“Is it okay if I come in?”
“Is that Y/N?” Someone asks.
“Y/N!?” Another voice asks, who you can recognize as Hueningkai. The staff member moves aside, and there’s Hyuka, standing behind him with that goofy smile on his face. He pulls you in for an unexpected, brief hug, looking at you all thrilled. “Your performance was amazing! You looked so good up there, and the transition and your execution–“ He’s so excited that he just jumps around with glee, and you manage to laugh at his enthusiasm.
You take a seat on the empty couch with a content sigh, Hyuka then sitting next to you. “I loved your performance too. The brown hair suits you.” The colour made him look younger as if he wasn’t already, innocence along with it. “I like it. I wish you’d keep it.”
“You should’ve seen my in my group’s Magic era.”
“Do you have photos? It’s been a while since I’ve last seen it.” He pulls out his phone, photos of him from that time showing up after mere seconds of him typing it in. “You looked so cute! And so much younger…”
“We were both 17 that time, so obviously. I saw your concept during this time too. You looked cute too.”
A part of you wants to believe that he means it. Another part of you is making you think that he’s just saying it to be nice since you do that to him all the time. “So you’re saying that I’m not cute now?” You ask rhetorically, letting him search for his answer. “I’m saying that you’ve always been cute. How’s that?”
“You don’t mean that.”
“I do.” He’s looking at you so sternly that you want to believe him, and the fact he hasn’t broken out into laughter probably means that you should. “Soobin, Hueningkai is flirting with Y/N.” Beomgyu says, making you the first to break eye contact with him. “Don’t make her uncomfortable, Hueningkai.” His leader says, lounging in his chair.
“I think she likes it.”
“I do not.”
“Then why is your face so red? You don’t see me all flustered when you call me cute.”
“Actually, I do. We’re even.”
You both sit there in silence, Hueningkai scrolling on his phone mindlessly, lurking on his social media. He opens his camera to check and fix his hair, but notices you in frame, your eyes shut and head on his shoulder. You fell asleep on him.
He’s frozen in place, unsure what to do. He doesn’t move for as long as your rest on him, merely going back on his phone with a quiet chuckle. He snuck a few photos with you, and looking at them he realized that you were still as cute as he called you, even while you were asleep. When he looked up from his phone, he saw Yeonjun with his camera facing the two of you, fingers tapping on the screen.
“What are you doing?” Hyuka asks, Yeonjun immediately putting his phone away. “Nothing.” He lies, going back to using it as normal. You don’t stay asleep for long, being called back to your room by one of the other staff members. When you leave the room, Kai gets a text from Yeonjun, odd being that they were merely across the room from each other. He opens it to reveal a few images and even a video of the two of you together.
“Look at Hueningkai… Y/N is sleeping on his shoulder. Our maknae has really grown up and his crush is resting with him, they’re so cute. Saving this for when they date in the future.”
You nearly doze off in your own waiting room until your phone buzzes in your hand, a text from Hyuka appearing. It’s photos of the two of you, mostly of you sleeping on his shoulder while Hyuka is on his phone or taking selfies with you.

2022
You were close with Hueningkai. You talked a lot, you hung out a lot, you even did media promotions with him, and you had little inside jokes that no one seemed to get, which made them funnier.
You two also had a tendency to… flirt with each other.
You could never see if he was being serious or not, and he’d never tell you afterwards and just move on. You’d do the same, which was only fair, but you really wanted to know if he meant it. Sometimes you wished he did. Other times you didn’t care.
You did lives together, mostly consisting of gossip and eating snacks, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. You even walked in on him once in the middle of one, and was unofficially invited as a guest.
You did promotional content with each other, and had a lot of pictures together in your camera roll. You almost lost important screenshots and info because of it. But every time you opened your gallery, you smiled, seeing pictures of him and the two of you messing around together reminding that there was more to life than just work.
It’s officially known by everyone, you and Hueningkai were best friends. Two peas in a pod, doing a lot of things together when you both were free. You were being shipped together, and while you were worried it made him uncomfortable, you also kind of liked it. Which begun the spiral of thoughts: did you have a crush on him?
You felt even more like a schoolgirl talking about it with your friends, except you were left alone with your own thoughts. You only flirted with each other about what, hundreds of times? He’d pat your back to calm you down, hold your hand if he noticed you shaking, run his fingers through your hair when you’d ramble, hug you when you need it, wipe off any crumbs that were left at the corner of your mouth…
He had comebacks that made your face go red, snarky replies and comments that made your heart race more than anything else, he looked hot when he was performing, like, really hot, he made sure you were the first person to see his unpublished modeling photos (all of them drove you crazy), he looked really pretty with contact lenses, he was the only person that could leave you stuttering and scrambling for words…
The list went on and on. And the more things you found out you liked about him, the more the answer became clear. You liked him. You liked your best friend.
Sure, he’s told you before that you were his celebrity crush, but that’s different. You liked him on a personal level, a level that could make or break your relationship with each other, and that was what scared you the most. You really liked him, to the point where if he rejected you, you’d go dark for a few days trying to recover.
You wanted to tell him so bad. Every time you tried, your heart would race uncontrollably and you couldn’t choke out a single word. It was almost embarrassing how flustered his simple actions made you, let alone on a livestream.
“I told my sisters about you.” He says, staring up at the clear, starlit sky. “Really?”
“My younger sister is a big fan of you, actually. She debuted this year. Older has plans to, and she says you’re really cool.”
“Tell them I say thank you. What group is your younger sister a part of?”
“Kep1er. Bahiyyih?”
“You did that Tiktok with her, I remember. You guys look scarily alike.”
“We really don’t.” You glare at him, straight faced. Hueningkai looks at you, face illuminated by the lights hidden underneath the plant fixtures. “You look pretty.” He thinks aloud, knowing you heard judging from the expression on your face.
You laugh. “I know.” You expect him to laugh the same, but his face doesn’t seem to change in any way. “Oh, you’re serious.”
“I always have been. You just never see it that way.”
“Oh.” You’re struck with a pang of guilt, cursing yourself internally. “You weren’t just being nice?”
“I meant every word I said. I hope you’re taking me seriously right now.”
It seems like I’m not, but I am. I really am.
“This is awfully bold of you, Hyuka.”
“I really like you, Y/N. How’s that for bold?”
He was being serious, unphased with genuine, meaningful eyes. “You always stayed by my side, even when I was feeling down. You remember the little things about me; my drink orders, the snacks I get, my habits, and merely being able to see you makes my day a whole lot better.”
You’re standing there, mouth slightly hanging, unable to say anything. The words are stuck in your throat, and you want to say something, but you feel like you’re gonna faint if you speak a single word.
“I… I can’t…” You’re too embarrassed to face him, knowing his eyes are on you. “I need to go…” You mutter, hand brushing over his for a second before leaving him unanswered on the silent, dimly lit rooftop.
You’re running down the stairs, mashing the buttons on the elevators, messily typing in your key code, falling to your knees once you step foot in your dorm. You’re coughing so much from your horribly paced breathing, and the pain adds to your tears, slowly trailing down your face.
Why were you crying? You didn’t deserve to cry. You were the one that hurt him, leaving him there because you were a coward. It hurt like hell. You barely managed to clean yourself up, falling asleep the second your head hits your pillow.
Practice the following day was straightforward, but you still felt empty. You would’ve gotten a text from Hyuka already, but the only messages there are the ones from yesterday. It hurts to see it so empty, and you want to talk to him, but what if he already hated you?
Entering the elevator, you run into Taehyun and his hooded mop of black hair. “Hi Y/N.” He greets. You tip your head to greet him, guilty for being able to talk to one of Hyuka’s friends and not him himself. “You should go talk to him. He skipped out on practice today.”
“Does he hate me?”
He scoffs. “Hueningkai could never hate you. You made his life 100 times better, according to him.” He pauses and sighs as the elevator nears the floor to the cafeteria. “Even for a few hours, he really didn’t seem like himself. If anything, he’s wondering if you hate him.”
As the door opens and Taehyun steps off, you get a text from Hueningkai.
im sorry.
forget i said anything.
“Shit.” You mutter, Taehyun eyeing you the entire time until the doors close. It’s one swift ride down to the bottom floor, and again, you run, but this time faster than you did the day before, spamming the buttons on the elevator and going to his floor. You stop in front of his door, knocking on it and ringing the doorbell. “Hueningkai? It’s me.” You say. No answer.
“Hyuka? Please, can we talk?” You plead, not hearing anything from the inside. You spam his messages instead, calling him 10 times before giving up. You then remembered accidentally peeking at him entering his dorm code, but you forced yourself to forget it for the sake of his privacy. Given he wasn’t answering, you forced yourself to remember.
He jokingly scolded you that day before shutting the door, but what did he type before that?
Your faded memory punches in the series of numbers you picked out, the door suddenly unlocking. You look around, seeing an empty hallway before shutting the door and locking it, taking your shoes off and running to his room. “Hyuka?” You call, hearing muffled sniffles from a distance. That had to be him.
You didn’t bother knocking. You opened to door, seeing Hueningkai’s face all messed with tears, puffy red eyes, and his arms clinging tightly to one of his stuffed animals. His eyes widened before he hid his face with a tissue. You walk over to him, helping him wipe his face with the tissues. You quickly get up and rush to his kitchen, refilling the glass of water on the floor beside his bed.
He’s calmed down by the time you get back, accepting the glass and drinking half of it. “How did you get in?” He asks, voice hoarse. “You typed in the code once and I accidentally saw. I took a shot in the dark.” You hold his face in your hands, warming them, wiping away a fallen tear with a stroke of your thumb. He clearly didn’t remember. “I’m sorry–“
“No, don’t be. I’m sorry. You have nothing to be sorry for.”
You sigh, heart pounding in your ears. “I was a coward for running away. It was stupid.” He chuckles. “I don’t even know why I’m crying, I just started thinking of you, and everything I’ve lost, and…” He cuts himself off, knowing he’d start crying again if he said anything else. “I’m right here. You haven’t lost anything.”
You move his hair out of his face, and all you can do is look at him. His post crying face, rosy and glistening, a content smile on his face. “I like you too, Hyuka. Your duality, your laugh, your carefulness, your personality…” You begin to look at the smaller details on his face. “Your eyes, your lashes, your jawline…”
“Your lips.”
The crank holding the two of you finally snaps, and you’re fully drawn to him.
You kiss him, and everything feels just right, sensing his surprise through the noise he made at the sudden action. It’s a first for both of you, so you could be as awkward as you needed to while learning how to kiss each other. But you were fast learners, and you got the hang of it quickly.
He pulls you closer by the waist, holding you close to him as you straddle his hips, kissing you fervently. So fervently that you swear you hear him moan in between a few kisses, and you try not to enjoy it as much as you do. Pulling away for a second to admire him, the way his chest heaves as he’s out of breath, his eyes doing the pleading for him.
You lean in closer. “Do you like being like this?” You ask, forehead against his, lips grazing over his own. “Mhm.” Your hand holds his face again, warm and tempting. “Is this what you’ve wanted?” He nods again. “For how long?”
“Too long.”
His lips are back on yours, dominant and hungry. He was the only one that could restrain you like this, and for once, you didn’t mind not being in control. His kisses move down to your neck, feeling him smirk after eliciting a groan from you.
“You can’t…” You start, feeling him stop and pull away. “People will see. We can’t risk it.”
Being in the industry meant that lying out of hickeys was nonexistent. Dating scandals would come abuzz and the only thing people would ask you for the next few weeks was who gave you that purple mark on your neck.
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
The door suddenly opens, and you’re met with a shaken Beomgyu, eyes wide and jaw dropped. You immediately get off of Hueningkai, putting your hood back on and sitting on the side of the bed, gesturing zipped lips to the poor boy. “Soobin! They’re– they’re… Y/N’s here!” Beomgyu rephrases, a better choice of words than what you assumed he’d say.
“I’m sorry. That was a dick move of me.”
“It was. All I wanted was closure, and I got it, so it’s okay.”
His hand rests on top of yours. “Can I be your boyfriend, Y/N?” You blush, face hot as if you weren’t just making out with him a few minutes ago. “Yeah. Yeah, I’d like that. But what about our label?”
“You’re closer with Bang than I am. Could you talk to him?” You nod, kissing him one last time before leaving, avoiding eye contact with Soobin and Beomgyu on the way out. You bump into Taehyun on the way to the door. He looks at you with a smile, following with an affirmative nod and letting you go.
Taehyun budges through the border of Soobin and Beomgyu at his own bedroom door, Yeonjun peeking over and seeing Hueningkai all red and smiley. “What happened?” The oldest asks, eyes still on the youngest.
“Y/N happened.” Soobin answers, Yeonjun’s gaze locked on the maknae. Maybe it was his older brother genes that he noticed something different than the Hueningkai he saw this morning, but judging from the fact you walked out with your hood on, Hyuka’s shirt being slightly crumpled, his blanket gathered at the footboard, some of his plushies fallen out of place, and slight tinges of pink on and surrounding his mouth, he deduced you two had a little bit of fun.
“Took him long enough.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
2023
Your relationship was smooth sailing as it ever could be with your schedules. A member of your team had to arrange a meeting with Bang discussing the relationship between you and Hueningkai. Keeping it a secret would have been the better option, but knowing Hyuka, he’d still show you off to everyone even if being scolded to keep quiet about it for hours on end.
Bang said he ‘had a hunch’ from the first interview, not showing any objection, but naming the risks and controversies that would come with the publicity of your romance. You two were too lovestruck to care about public opinions, but you still were wary of your interactions with each other, Hueningkai especially, knowing that getting into a scandal only involving himself would bring the group down with him.
You two were content with the way things were, but Hyuka tended to have the mindset of, ‘if it happens, it happens’ despite being so cautious, and you’re sure the staff members at Music Bank saw the two of you being intimate in the halls because your boyfriend just had to kiss your forehead at that time, no sooner or later.
Rumors started to arise, given how close the two of you had become. You were always close, but this time you were much closer. There were a lot of behind the scenes cameras at music shows, sometimes catching the two of you in the background together. Once you were even caught with Hyuka taking a nap on your thighs, and that only further proved the existence of the two of you dating.
The one time you decide not to wear a mask and just your hat, paparazzi caught the two of you holding hands on the way back, those gossip articles really planting all previous evidence as if their life was on the line.
Both of you never confirmed anything to the public. You simply just moved on with your lives as if nothing ever happened. It was brought up in a few interviews, but you managed to avoid answering questions on terms of your relationship, using the excuse of privacy.
It was surprising to everyone when they saw a video uploaded on TXT’s channel titled something along the lines of: ‘Hueningkai’s first date’, you couldn’t remember it off the top of your head. But you did vividly remember officially stating that the two of you were going out, and have been going out for a while.
The feedback was, as far as you knew, positive. Being dubbed as ‘the duo we’ve been waiting for’ or ‘netizens’ favourite couple’, you mostly appreciated the fact that you didn’t receive any threats, and only a loss of some fans. Maybe people just couldn’t handle the fact that you two looked so damn good together.
“What are you watching?” Hueningkai asks from the kitchen, seeing you staring at your phone intensely. “Your interview. You’re throwing away your plushies? But I got you one.”
“I’m keeping yours, of course. I’m getting rid of my hoarding habits, so I don’t really want anymore as gifts. Yours will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m never gonna get rid of it.”
“Can I at least keep one?” He considers it for a moment, then nods. “Sure. Which?” You don’t even have to think about it. “Honey.”
“Really?”
“You let me hold him when you invited me here so I could cry and rant after that shitty interview. So that one will also have a special place in my heart. It was also the first one you offered to me. Maybe when I’m alone and I have it in my arms I’ll think of you.”
“You can have him, since he means that much to you.” The sink turns off, shaking the water off his hands and drying them, going to his room and retrieving his, well, now your stuffed animal. The moment you hold it, your thoughts are flooded with nothing but of Hueningkai, despite the fact he took a seat right next to you, placing an arm around your shoulders.
“Jesus, you look fuckin’ sexy in these photos.” You say, zooming in and saving them to your camera roll shamelessly. “Speak for yourself. Front cover on Vogue? You looked so beautiful in those photos. I’m so incredibly lucky.”
You put your phone down, turning to hear his answer. “How so?”
“That you’re my girlfriend. That I get to be your boyfriend. That I get to see your beautiful face every single day, and that I know little things about you that others don’t.”
You chuckle. “I want to kiss you so bad, but the others are gonna come back soon and God knows we won’t be able to stop.” His hand gracefully holds your jaw, his finger tracing along your jawline to let himself move his face closer to yours. He speaks in a whisper.
“Then don’t.”

I haven't listened to a lot of the podcast yet, so far I like it. But, I listen to a lot of shows and I have always been wondering about them: how do you find the time and energy to do this?
First of all I want to say sorry for letting this rot in the inbox for so long, life has been kinda crazy lately. (I hope you see this answer!)
This is a difficult question, and I feel like it's been simmering in the back of my mind for awhile. For the sake of brevity, I've tried to boil this down to some short points.
I Love Doing It
I love it.
When I was a kid, I'd make up all these fantasy worlds in my head - and my one wish was to be able to explore them with my friends. I'd have these persistent yearnings to wake up in some fantastical adventure, and just be able to experience something new and exciting free from the usual expectations of life.
Obviously, that didn't work out - so playing pretend with my best friends is the closest thing I have, and like I said - I love it, therefore I'm willing to expend a lot of energy on it - often times at the detriment of other parts of my life.
2. My Lifestyle Enables It
I don't want to really get into any personal stuff too much, but basically - I have a good job, I work from home, I have enough breaks in between my work that I can put in some time here and there during work hours to develop the podcast.
Motivation aside - this is a huge part of it. I still ran games when I was busier and had more demanding jobs, but there was definitely not enough time that I would make a podcast out of it (at least, an edited one).
Editing the episodes, making music, trying to maintain the blog takes up a chunk of time that honestly, I wish I didn't have to worry about, and there are still a lot of things I could be doing better. (Promoting, making more music, etc). But I am very lucky to be able to do even this much.
3. Release Schedule
Having a two week release schedule has been essential to push me to produce this. Without that consistent deadline, I think things would have fallen apart.
(I am extremely glad I didn't do a weekly release schedule, I'd have burnt out so quick.)
4. I Crave Validation
Up until probably my mid-20's, I was afraid to share what I wrote. It was a mix of self-consciousnesses, doubt, shame, etc.
What I realized was that I wasn't afraid of sharing my work, I was afraid of sharing my work and having my fears about being a bad writer confirmed.
Ultimately, I realized that the chance to share my work with people, and interact with a wider audience was worth the risk of having people not like it.
Even just being able to say "I am making this thing, you can find it here" is really good for my self esteem. It feels like I'm creating proof of my creativity, instead of just squirreling it away.
So, here we are. It's been worth it - being able to know people are interested in the show, seeing the questions that come in, being able to interact with other creators.
-----
That's it, but anyways hope that at least partially answered the question. Hope it wasn't too rambly!
As always, thank you for writing in - it really does mean a lot to me.

I Want It All
Tumblr media
Hello! This is the first time I have written anything like this…I really do not know how this is gonna go. I was a STEM major in college so don’t expect much lol. Let me know if a part 2 is wanted. I might go full smut, who knows? It's kinda predictable haha.
Tumblr media
The day was finally here.
“Y/N! Let’s go! We gotta be first in line for the VIP experience.”
This was the first time you had seen them perform. It was more than you could ever dream of. You and Sarah had saved hundreds of dollars to be squashed in the pit, but it was worth it. The only thing separating you from the love of your life was a metal barricade…and 8 security guards. You couldn’t get enough of every sigh and gasp he made on stage. It filled your heart (and other places) with the warmth of a heated, luxury car seat. Your gazing expression fixated on those long, strong fingers producing the most satisfying riffs—his voice, so commanding and full, yet so trembly at times.
His calm demeanor always made you feel so at ease. You figured he was a good actor since you’d heard he was a very shy and private person. You’d never know that by watching him perform (especially the performances from 2013 on). He seemed larger than life but there were certain interview moments where he just seemed so relatable. He’s just a guy, like any other. He’s had love, heartbreak, and any other normal human experience. You’d seen photos of him around your age and he just looked like the cute kid at school, but nothing extraordinary. You wondered that if he wasn’t a famous musician, would you be as obsessed with him? Would you still be into him if he had a normal job and just did music as a hobby? After all, you were never into musicians. You were used to dating engineering majors, without a fraction of the emotional intelligence and creativity that he had. You always thought that guys in the arts were pompous pricks. Nothing was worse than a guy who had the same boring take on Pulp Fiction. All the guys you knew that were in a band were in it for the girls, especially the lead singers. They were the worst of all— bonus points if they also played guitar. Yet, your celebrity crush was indeed the lead singer/guitarist of a band. You were convinced that he was a sweetheart, he just seemed too goofy and down to earth to be a dickhead. Was he the exception? Did you just think that because you couldn’t see beyond your obsession?
I mean, he is a very famous lead singer/guitarist in a well-known band. He was used to having girls throw themselves at him. Did he enjoy it? You always thought he seemed uncomfortable by the attention. He sulked in interviews, scanning his surroundings, or saying something cheeky enough to garner a laugh, but not seem like an asshole. He loved to shout “Ladies!” right before that famous riff to get a few screams out of the crowd. In his AM and EYCTE eras, he always placed his arms around his female fans in photos. He was trying to keep up a certain image. You were sure he wasn’t the type of guy to touch a girl without their consent. He seemed too proper, too polite. Could it have all been a farce to make him seem more appealing?
Regardless of his public persona, he was just a human being, who sang and played an instrument or two. He was just a guy.
He was just a guy.
Sarah gripped your wrist and pulled you out of the pit. Even though you paid extra for this meet and greet, you needed to be the first few people at the gate. You could barely grapple with the fact that you were right in front of the stage, let alone that you would speak to the band.
It was all too much.
Well, you weren’t the first ones at the gate but you weren’t too far back in the line either. The line was bustling with screams and whispers. “Oh my god, here they come!”, you heard behind you. Your 5’2 body attempted to peer over the gate. A couple of security guards carefully opened the gates and out came a group of PR people, directing us to form a single file line.
And then you saw him.
The whole band, standing against the hedges that lined the VIP area, was a sight to behold. Jaime, Nick, Matt, and of course, Alex. They stood with their hands behind their backs, giggling and conversing with each other. One by one, fans came up to each of them for pictures and autographs. You clutched onto the AM poster you bought before the show so tightly that you thought it might rip in half. Sarah put a hand on your shoulder to calm you down, but she was just as nervous as you.
“Y/N, it’s okay, we got this.”
There were three people in front of you, then two, then one. Then-
“Next!”, the PR lady screamed. You gulped and stepped forward. This was happening.
“Hi, how are you, what’s your name?”, Jaime asked.
“Hi, it’s Y/N”, you trembled, your whole body visibly shaking. You handed over the poster for him to sign. He was so sweet and genuine. He reassured you with a smile, and you went down the line, repeating the same process with Nick and Matt. They were equally as polite and inviting. Whatever idea you had of band members being rude and disgusting left your mind immediately. These guys were so humble, honestly.
And then you got to Alex.
“Hi, how are you? I’m Alex, what your name?”, he asked with a grin in a deep, Sheffield accent.
You paused for what felt like an eternity. You simply could not fathom your celebrity crush asking you for your name.
“Hi, I’m great. I mean— my name isn’t great. My name is Y/N” you fumbled. Nice one, now he thinks you’re some inarticulate fangirl. Oh wait—
He chuckled as you gave him your poster to sign. “Well, it is very nice to meet you, Y/N. Did you enjoy the show?”
You could just die right there. His crisp blue suit, with his gold chains draping his bare chest void of any tie, was enough to put you into a coma. His hair was so fluffy and perfectly quaffed in the front. He was a vision of heaven.
“Yeah, it was amazing!” you replied with enthusiasm.
“I’m glad to hear that”, he said with a grin as he handed you back the poster. The PR lady took your phone as you posed for a picture with the whole band. You knew you looked like a complete goober but you didn’t care. You met your favorite band, finally. You asked Alex and the lady for a separate picture with just the two of you. He obliged and posed next to you, standing with his hands behind his back and sporting a smolder. You wondered how it was legal to be that devastatingly handsome.
“Thank you! It was great meeting you guys!”
You waved goodbye at all of them while you waited on the side for Sarah to take her turn. Your heart was racing and you had to pinch yourself to make sure you weren’t dreaming, as dreaming of Alex was a common occurrence. But this was real.
“Sarah, we met them, we spoke to all four of them”, you said in shock.
“Y/N, I still cannot believe it. And it just happened.”
You both exchanged photos and giggled over the whole ordeal. You made your way to the parking lot while fangirling over the fact that you both have spoken to and have pictures with the Arctic Monkeys.
It was all too surreal. You went home that night with a smile and your new favorite memory.
Tumblr media
As the weeks passed, you looked back on that moment fondly. The moment your eyes met Alex’s deep brown oceans, you were hooked. You felt relieved that he was so polite. The whole interaction was not rushed one bit, even though there were about 150 people behind you. You felt as if he really took his time with you, to make you feel special. Or was that just a part of his facade? After all, why else would he have taken his time with you when there were so many other desperate people waiting to have the same experience?
It was a crisp Saturday in Autumn. After working your 9-5 that week, you were much in need of an outdoor stroll. Work had just been kicking your ass lately. Demanding clients, more responsibility, and bad management. You needed to get away from it all, even though you never had to actually speak to anyone in person. Still, it felt good to walk away from your laptop and out of your apartment.
As you stepped outside, you felt a gust of wind knock you off your stoop. It was finally getting chilly in the city, and you could not wait for what the season had in store.
You were never much of a coffee drinker, but you couldn’t resist a good chai latte. You strolled down the street to your favorite coffee shop to get your sweet treat.
Something about the season felt different this year. More excitement, more possibilities, maybe something was waiting just around the corner. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking. You had too many negative thoughts swirling around your head constantly so it felt nice to be positive and dreamy for once, even if it was unrealistic.
You turned right onto the street with the coffee shop on the corner. Right before you opened the big glass doors, you halted. Your heart sank as you saw a familiar side profile. You thought you were just seeing what you wanted to see, as your delusions have tricked you before. You blinked as you gripped the handle of the store. People pass you by staring as they use the opposite door to enter the building. They must think I’m a nut.
You are a nut, that’s not him, it can’t be.
You compose yourself and enter the establishment like any other sane person would. You get in the usual long line to order. As you survey the room of the place you frequent at least once a week, you glance behind you to see that your delusion has unfortunately persisted. You shake your head and blink three times—this usually does the trick.
You feel a sense of relief, and you turn back around to confirm that there is nothing to see.
You were dead wrong. Or you had finally lost it. Either way, the frontman of the Arctic Monkeys was sitting behind you at a small table, sipping on a cappuccino and reading a novel.
Shit. What the hell is he doing here?

Yeah bts need to retire ASAP I don't know when it was the last time they looked like they had blood running through their veins. Jimin looks completely SOULESS bro it scares me sometimes. The only gimmick he and jungkook have is pretending to love their fans, not an ounce of creativity left in their bony bodies. Thv will never be anything more than a ig model and not even a good one, he's so mediocre it's painful. Yoongi has been releasing the same album over and over again but he will do good producing for other people. Hobi is talented af but he had like 30 years to develop some kind of personality and failed, it's time to go man. Rm must perceive himself as tyler the creator's afro korean cousin but he's just the corniest lyricist alive. And jin idk he's just jin, painfully unfunny, brings nothing to the table. Honestly I can't imagine anything good resulting from a bts reunion in 2025 and they suck ass as soloists. It's time to let go.
Akdksldn you should make a blog or dm me or something. But bts will NEVER retire omg they will milk their delusional fans DRY. The number of people who will stan through HELL just because they USED to be good will be enough to make them millionaires several times over. Even though they already have enough in the bank to retire, they're just greedy like that.
You ate with the analysis kinda unfortunately, people being like "this is music jimin makes when he's HAPPY" um bro I don't think that's the case I think he's going through some sort of crisis. All of them going through middle age tbh, conscription and fame fucked them up badddd. Taekook on their steady way to onlyfans accounts, yoongi just greedy. You can tell rapline ran out of their creative juices BAD because do you agust d and 1verse (and the cyphers) were so GOOD man wtf happened. As for jin, he needs to put ME in charge because. Actually scratch what I said earlier about bts needing each other, I'm honestly seeing a Huge career for jin, first of all in music as a Norazo type, second of all as a televison darling. Like i just got a vison of him age 45 married with kids and a regular spot on whatever variety show korea gets obsessed with by then.
As for 2025 comeback, sihyuk still milking the hyyh cow is not instilling me with confidence. My dream (which i know they will crush) is them releasing actual KPOP. But im expecting american radio doodoo.

Join Us As we Dissect The Life Of Ozzient Do you ever reminisce about that special person you thought was going to be with you forever, how do you feel when you think about that person? Does it bring back good memories or bad memories, how does it make you feel, these are the feelings that oozes out of  Reminiscin', the latest track from the camp of Ozzient. He produced “Reminiscin”, and invited talented rappers to further bring out the theme of the song, and just as expected they delivered. But the centre of Ozzient grew up in a musical home full of creatives and this has really helped in shaping his musical ear. During his childhood he was taught how to play the Güira, it is a percussion instrument from the Dominican Republic used as a percussion instrument, it is made of a metal sheet and played with a stiff brush. But later along the line, he started to play the piano which was self-taught, although his mother plays the guitar, that wasn’t where his interest was. In a recent interview with Mister Styx of Musicarenagh, Ozzient shed more light on his upbringing and also touched on his musical journey and some of the challenges. Listen to Reminiscin below https://open.spotify.com/track/0foXhR1UYPXkWH3doKGD1Y Facebook Twitter Spotify Soundcloud Youtube Instagram What is your stage name? My stage name is Ozzient Is there a story behind your stage name? The story behind my stage name is that my friends in highschool used to call me Ozzie. I decided to add the "nt" at the end cause I feel like it adds a nice ring to it and also "ent" is kinda short for the word entertainment. Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration everywhere I go. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? As a young kid I used to play the Güira (still do from time to time), I play the piano & I also beatbox as well. Are you from a musical or artistic family? I'm from a musically talented family, my brother taught me how to play the Güira, I always had an interest in playing the piano, & my mom loves to play the guitar. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? The person who inspired me to be part of the music industry has always been my brother that knows how to dance, sing, and play the güira because he's very versatile and always told me to never give up. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? I learned to play the piano by ear, and by looking at YouTube videos. My brother taught me how to play the güira. And beatboxing just naturally came to me. What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? The first concert I went to was FLOSSTRADAMUS & Dillon Francis. How could you describe your music? The best way I can describe my music would be versatile, I like blending and mixing different elements of genres together. Describe your creative process. My creative process is to start off with the melody, then the chords, followed by the drums. I usually always start off with making the hook. Chorus first then work my way into making the verses of the tracks. https://www.musicarenagh.com/ozzient-features-pronto-valid-kay9-clarissa-on-feelin-a-vibe/ What is your main inspiration? My main inspirations are Eminem, DJ Khaled, Calvin Harris, & Mike Will Made-It. As to why is because I'd love to not only give back to my parents but also be able to be free and not worry about the money situation and of course I just love listening and making music in general. What musician do you admire most and why? The musician I admire most is Eminem because his music is always different as well as his flows, cadance, and delivery. He delves into different styles of music. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? I'd say that my style has evolved from the beginning. Who do you see as your main competitor? I don't see anyone has my competitors, we're all striving musicians, content creators and I think we should all be helping and supporting each other, that's how we grow as a community. "Team work makes the dream work."
What are your interests outside of music? My interests outside music consists of making graphic designs, playing video games, playing soccer, baseball & watching movies. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? I honestly wouldn't know what I would be doing if it wasn't music. Music has always been my passion. What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? The biggest problem I have encountered in the journey of music has been keeping up with promotion, networking, marketing, advertising & making more versatile types of content. It's a learning process and I love it cause it build character as well as your own portfolio. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? If I could change one thing in the music industry I think it would be the lack of support that comes from other artists & the biases that come from the music industry itself. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4T4wzr7w6p4zYpEAG0il5c Why did you choose this as the title of this project? The reason why I chose this as the title of this project is because this song talks about reminiscing about that special someone, who you taught would be the one. What are your plans for the coming months? My plans for the coming months are to continue putting out content that I enjoy and hope that people also enjoy it. Do you have any artistic collaboration plans? My artistic collaboration plans are to help smaller artists get a bigger spotlight as well as also getting their visions brought to life and heard by others. What message would you like to give to your fans? The message that I would like to give to my fans would be to never give up on your dreams, stay true to yourself and keep working hard at it. Thank you for being supportive and for always being there!!

Solar - Colours
I enjoyed this album a lot! I don’t know much of Solar’s solo stuff (in fact I only really know Honey), and I only really know Mamamoo’s titles, and most of Mamamoo+’s discography. So I have a decent understanding of how Solar and her voice are used, but I was still very pleasantly surprised with this album. I heard some sides of her that I hadn’t before, and some sides of her that I wish I could hear more of.
Another thought that I had was “Wendy and Jihyo wish they had done this album” lol, which maybe sounds mildly insulting … and I guess it kind of is. But here’s what I mean. Jihyo did the whole self-producing thing for Zone, and it ended up fine, but it didn’t end up particularly diverse. A lot of the songs were very samey to me, and so I was kinda bored by the album. Wendy’s album was good, a bit more diverse, but she didn’t contribute at all to it. And as a result, it was very safe; the producers did what they knew she could do well.
This album, on the other hand, was really creative. It’s basically just Solar flexing on us for 16 minutes straight, and honestly it was a really enjoyable experience. I really do love her voice, she can do so many things really well. I want her to rap more, that part in Honey lives in my head rent-free. Regardless, this album showcased so many sides of her, I loved it. I guess one criticism is that it’s so short: only one song was over three minutes long! The songs didn’t have much time to develop because of that; they were more snapshots in time than moments in time.
Average score of 8.2, which might be a tad high, but still. Really good mini overall, definitely give it a listen. I imagine that most of these songs will survive on my playlist.
(Also, why is the album called “Colours” but the first song is called “Colors”? That feels a bit odd, is there a reason for that?)
- Colors
Not what I expected
Okay, this is more what I expected
I should comment that I don’t usually check out teasers or trailers or whatever. So I’m completely blind to this
But I think this is what they call “gay club music”
What’s this instrument in the chorus?
Haha the “ahhhhh!”
Oh wait, this is all English isn’t it
8/10, you have my attention Solar, but I want a bit more. The song didn’t really go anywhere
But I
Notice how everything is very muted color
Except the fire, and now her dress
Lol okay
This feels like what Wendy’s IWYH could’ve been
Not typing too much because I’m paying so much attention to the MV
Lovely visuals
But yeah, basically the only Colors in this MV were the fire and the dress
8/10
Empty
Ballad time?
That was a neat intro
Maybe slow jam time, these snaps are very slow jammy
Okay, not a classic slow jam
Actually she’s kind of doing the Nmixx thing in this album, where she stars off doing one song, but then subverts our expectations
That song Felt too short. And looking at the runtime, it definitely was
7/10
Honey Honey
Well this won’t get confusing with her other songs lol
This album feels overall more electronic than I think I expect from Solar
A bit too close to the Ive album, in that sense
I like this song, doesn’t feel a thing like Honey though
Oh it’s in six, that’s cute
Dude Solar is actually Such a good rapper oml
Or, maybe not technically great, but I love her rapping voice
That cute vocal run around 2:00 was so fun
I kind of get rainy vibes out of this song, not really Honey vibes
Maybe it’s “honey” as in “darling”, and not as in “bee juice”
8/10
Easy Peasy
Le Sserafim have ruined this phrase for me
This does NOT sound like Solar lmao wow
I guess we don’t often hear her with this range/tone, usually she’s beltier
I actually get early IU vibes out of this song
Yes lol with the plucks and the drums and the harmonies omg
Honestly I really enjoyed this song
9/10
Blues
(This sounds nothing like blues)
This is like … electronic r&b so far, based on the intro
We’re in three
Solar does harmonies so well
Yeah, here’s the classic Solar voice we like so much
The “dadadada” part is So good
Haha the vocal flexing, love it
And the guitars! Yes!
And now the piano
Too anthemic to be blues
And now the drums here
I mean I can kind of get it, but honestly I’d call this rock more than Blues
Actually it’s really theatrical
Lol mic drop
9/10

Week 4
Deren’s article Amateur vs Professional is my favorite reading so far. So much so that I decided I’ll be keeping a copy of it on my desktop for the rest of the semester to reference. I’m also an independent music producer, but it took me a while to get comfortable with calling myself that. I started at 23, which felt pretty late in the grand scheme of things. But as time went on, I stopped being intimidated by the one’s I considered “pro” and started to better appreciate the liberation that comes with being “amatuer”, much like how Darren described in her article. And as even more time goes on, the technology and accessibility continues to improve, it has never been a better time to be an amateur.
I found Deren’s Meshes in the Afternoon on YouTube and watched it again. Now I don’t have a lot of context for movies made in 1943, but this film seems like it’s filled to the brim with experimental techniques that I imagine would be incredibly novel for the time. Not to mention, all of the extreme close-up shots made it feel like a modern music video, just shot in black and white. I also can’t get over the fact that her first husband was the cameraman and her third husband would end up composing the music later on. To me, this adds a whole new level of interpretation regarding her being unable to escape a cyclical pattern of mistakes; maybe even one she didn’t expect.
A lot of what I have to say carries over to the experimental French film. I know it’s not exactly what we’re supposed to be paying attention to, but for me the music is 50% of what makes for an experience. And having Massive Attack go so well on a film that is 60+ years old only cements my opinion on the matter of timelessness. Depeche Mode would have also been an acceptable alternative. I felt Katherine Dunham’s description of Deren was a very classy way of saying that she lived in a very free, creative, and boldly sexual way that might not have sat well with gender associations for the time, and I think I could kinda tell this from Meshes in the Afternoon alone. I’ll remember that when I continue to reference her article for the rest of the semester.

HI so I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your podcast and I listened to Wooden Overcoats because I heard you recommend it and now i absolutely love Wooden Overcoats!!! (Both finales had me making excited screaming noises and walking around in circles in my room while i liveblogged them to my girlfriend)
Do you have other recommendations in a similar vein?
Oh my goodness, sorry for the delay on this but YAY Wooden Overcoats! It's an absolute all-time fave of ours and needless to say there was much screaming in our household as well. Would die for Antigone Funn tbh.
As far as recs go, have you listened to Victoriocity? It's an alternate-Victorian-London mystery/comedy, and Tom Crowley (Eric Chapman from Wooden Overcoats) plays one of the leads. The theme song is so dramatic and catchy, it's got really snappy dialogue like Wooden Overcoats, the voice acting is across the board excellent, and we would die for Clara Entwhistle.
Some other recs, in case you haven't already checked these out:
Death by Dying: Super dark comedy about an obituary writer in a very odd town--some of our hardest laughs in any audio drama and a show that our writers quote on the DAILY
Wolf 359 and EOS10: Likely you've already listened to one or the other at this point, they're classics for a reason, but just in case you haven't--do it! These were two of our first intros to audio fiction and have been SUPER formative in teaching us how to write comedy and drama for the medium. Really great comedies that also do a fantastic job of sneakily getting you to care about the characters SO much.
Midnight Burger: Look, this show frickin rocks. Tight writing, incredibly clear character writing, just arrives from minute one with such a strong sense of tone and identity. If you like our show's vague Doctor Who vibes, there is literally no way you won't love the crew of Midnight Burger.
Mockery Manor: More of a mystery than outright comedy vibe, but the MUSIC! The SOUND DESIGN! The SETTING! It's a murder-mystery 80s show set at a theme park in the UK, with jingles left and right. We did in fact buy the soundtrack the day it became available, it's bangers beginning to end.
Brimstone Valley Mall: Speaking of music! A 90s comedy about a group of demons who work in a shopping mall and have a band. This ensemble is a frickin delight and we love a Hot Topic joke.
Two Flat Earthers Kidnap a Freemason: Full disclosure, our producer/Narrator, Lauren, is a voice actor on this, but we think if you like the satire of our show and our particular brand of morally grey protagonists, this one will be right up your alley. We'd tell you the plot but...it's kinda right there in the title, innit?
BONUS: If you have Audible or want to do some creative searching, we also highly recommend the BBC radio shows Bleak Expectations and Cabin Pressure--both incredibly funny and well-made audio sitcoms! These two shows were our gateway into audio fiction and remain the gold standard in our mind for comedy scripts that boast a frankly ridiculous joke-per-minute ratio.
We will likely add on shows from here as we think of them, but hopefully this gets you started with something that sounds fun!

It took a certain self-realization to have him turn it around. And boy, did he. We discuss with him many of life’s lessons that he’s learned along the way and how he weaves them into his work: having empathy for others and leading with compassion, the belief in making happen what you want, the confidence in your own creative self, the courage in leaving everything behind to focus on exploration.

reaction: when you are intimidated by them; ateez
Tumblr media
req:  Hi, could you maybe do a ateez thing where the reader is friends with another member and when the reader is introduced to another member by the other one the reader is scared of them or shy around them. (...) maybe this is simular to that be its when the reader and member meet for the first time?
a/n: thank you for requesting this! sorry it took this long and also it might be a lil all over the place this was kinda hard to write ngl jkesbfjefjwe but i tried my best so i hope you will like it hehet
genre - fluff, angst | pairing - ateez x reader | warnings - brief mentions of food | word count - 2.3k
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ seonghwa
you honestly didn't think for a second that you would be this timid and shy in front of seonghwa because even jongho didn't make you feel this way, despite his inhumane strength and athleticism. you've also heard from jongho many times that seonghwa is nothing like how you would think purely based on his appearance, but it's hard to remember that when you're right beside him as the two of you wait for your orders at the coffee shop, his slightly furrowed eyebrows as he typed away on his phone only amplifiying the sheer coldness of his aura.
"oh sorry about that, the boys were asking me to get some fruits from the convenience store on our way back," seonghwa said as he slid his phone back into his jeans pocket. "so i heard that you two met at the gym?"
"who?" obviously he meant you and jongho, stupid, you thought to yourself as you held back the urge to facepalm, not only because of how stupid that question was, but also because that came out about 5 times higher than your normal speaking voice, you literally just squeaked.
"you and jongho, met at the gym right?"
"oh, jongho...yea" it was very obvious to seonghwa now that you were either intimidated by him, or you had a thing for him, because back at the studio you were socialising pretty well with the other members even without jongho's help.
seonghwa would probably try to break the ice between the two of you by sharing some stories about jongho and hoping that you would be able to relate and share some too, like "you know, everytime i order iced americano with more than one pump of syrup, jongho just has to say that he drinks his without any"
"I KNOW RIGHT, but im telling you he does, sometimes, after an intense workout."
"urgh, i knew it"
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ hongjoong
it was simply just how serious and intelligent he had looked while he was discussing about what he was envisioning for the current song he was working on with the other producers in the studio that scared you. he was more impressive than you had expected and you blame that on seonghwa for always telling you about him as if he was this very soft and shy music geek that seonghwa had to baby, which is true to a certain extent but really, to say that was an exaggeration.
"what do you think?" hongjoong asked once the two of you were alone again in the studio, the both of you just waiting for seonghwa to come back from his morning radio schedule before heading out for some food.  he had played a snippet of what was supposed to be one of the title tracks for their upcoming album and you honestly really liked it, but you hesitated with that comment. you were scared that your simple comment would sound very thoughtless, how could you not when the other producers actually had constructive and educated feedbacks?
"i think the addition of the...uhm...gayageum..sound..at the prechorus part was nice, and then the change in...counts..at the chorus was refreshing and..unique."
hongjoong could only chuckle at how you were trying your best to give him a proper feedback, not because he found it ridiculous but because it was endearing and he appreciated it. and he was really only asking while expecting a simple answer, because if the song didn't sound good it wouldn't matter how creative he was with it. if the both of you were friends, he would most definitely tease you saying that he didn't change the counts even if he did but for now he just says, "so it sounds good, yes?"
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ yunho
everyone would probably think that you're silly if you told them that you were intimidated by yunho. yunho? that cute handsome guy with soft cheeks and the warmest smile? really? maybe because everyone described him as such that you were disappointed with how....cold he actually was, in comparison, when hongjoong had finally introduced you to the other members. it's not that he wasn't friendly, he just didn't take the initiative to strike up a conversation with you like you had expected him to, and frankly, you were planning to rely on his extrovertedness to ease you into this new social circle. it felt like he was doing everything out of courtesy because you were hongjoong's friend and that he actually didnt really like you or your vibe or whatever it was. every move he made, everything he said, all felt so robotic and well thought out. and that scared you truly because, is he always like this? is this who he really was as a person?
but yunho is quick to pick up on the fact that you were giving him back the same energy he gave you even though you were quickly warming up to the other members and the room was getting a little noisier. he still wouldnt randomly jump in and start a conversation with you because that would be so weird after half an hour of completely treating you like a random stranger so he waited until someone brought up a topic that the both of you really enjoyed — gaming.
so of course yunho takes the opportunity and asks you to play games with him, and from then on you could see that he was finally putting his mask down and being more like what you had expected. i mean, it's hard to hide your true personality when youre playing an intense game. anyways, he ended up apologising for being so "fake" initially and that he was only doing that because he didn't want to embarrass hongjoong in front of his friend. he's a thoughtful boy.
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ yeosang
yeosang is a certified good boy by all his members and you know they love him to death, even picking him as the only one they would introduce their sisters to if they had one. he's just as thoughtful as yunho, i don't doubt it, but in a very different way. if yunho was "okay i cannot do anything weird or hongjoong would look bad", yeosang was more of a "how far can my jokes cross the line with them? should i start off with some easy banter and sarcastic remarks to give them a feel of how it's like to be my friend or should i just bombard them with the worst and see whether they are still up to be my friend"
so you and yunho decided to make some food so that you could all bond over a meal and yeosang just happened to come into the kitchen to get a glass of water. yunho pulls yeosang over to the stove, feeds him a spoon of whatever you were in charge of cooking, and asked, "how does it taste"
"i can tell you tried your best but birds of the same feather really flock together" and it really doesn't help that he says it with such a stoic face.
honestly? yeosang thought that it was pretty decent, but in his mind, just saying "it's good" sounded way more insincere and thoughtless than a banter. it's as if no matter how it tasted he would have said that it was good anyways because it was polite, and yeosang didn't want you to feel like that was the case. but how else was he going to express his thoughts and emotions without being too weird like showering you with praise.
but the moment he saw you kinda panic and grabbing another spoon to taste your food hurriedly, and the way your eyes could no longer meet his own both out of embarassment and intimidation, he quickly clarified himself, "i mean it's edible"
"yeosang, that is not making things any better"
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ san
maybe it's because you were so used to yeosang's dry humour and icy cold rbf that when you met san, who just oozes gentleness and warmth despite his insanely godlike facial and bone structure, you were intimidated. it made you feel so small because, damn, people like that really exist? he has such an outstanding aura physically yet he is so down to earth, the contrast between his personality and his looks so large that it didn't feel real. you were definitely putting him on a pedestal on this point because its hard to remind yourself that he is also just a normal human being like yourself when he was that perfect in your eyes.
yeosang had left you alone with san in the dance studio because you have been requesting to see him dance up close irl for the longest time possible. and you dont know if you had overestimated your ability to not be so obviously awestruck in front of san, or if you had underestimated his ability to make you feel so small and irelevant. watching from the side, your eyes only dared to watch his reflection in the mirror instead of his actual body, and san could tell what you were feeling right away as he also watched you through the mirror in front of him.
san would do anything to make people feel comfortable around him and if messing up the choreography was going to make you see him more as a human you could befriend rather than a great performer that you could never associate yourself with, he would gladly do so. so he does, pretending that he had slipped a little, or falling to the floor halfway through a tough choreography and all of that while he made eye contact with you and laughed at himself.
"it's so hard, im so tired. y/n, save meeeee," he would also whine a little later in the dance session, figuring that by opening up a little more, you would do the same too, hopefully. and it worked, because by the time yeosang comes back into the dance studio, he feels like a third wheel but for friendships if you know what i mean.
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ mingi
he looks so put together, his voice sounds so mature just like his thoughts and the things he say, his presence just as big if not even bigger than his height itself, his aura just as sharp and intimidating as his facial features. it's not that you feel that you don't deserve to talk to him, of course you do btw, it's just that you feel like you shouldn't, like you would only make a fool of yourself. because the brands that he's wearing right now? some of them you haven't even heard of before and you feared that he would think you were shallow for only knowing more mainstream luxury brands.
and mingi only made things worse when he complimented your shoes which were probably ten times cheaper than his, he didn't do that to point out and remind you that your shoes were not as fancy as his, but somehow it felt that way. but he's not stupid, he can tell that you were internally shrinking when you hesitated to accept his compliment and even adding that they were very cheap, to which he said, "you know i wasn't born dressed in designer clothes, right? i don't appreciate things purely based on their price value, those are really some nice shoes you have."
you can't even blame him at this point because you feel even more stupid and shallow for thinking that mingi was a snob just because his outfit of the day could probably pay your tuition fees.
"hmm, san must have said that i was super cool and that he wants to be like me, huh?"
"huh?"
"why else are you so afraid of me?"
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ wooyoung
you appreciate how friendly he is, you really do. but perhaps someone needs to teach this boy how to GRADUALLY make friends with people and not just scream into their face and jump into their arms on the first meeting. you won't deny he makes you feel as if he has known you all his life, and it makes you feel very welcomed and accepted int his social circle but damn, you're scared. scared because what if you can't match his energy and he finds you not worth his time anymore, because this fast food type friendship always seem too good to be true, most of the time they are people looking to drag you into a cult but,,, uh, yeah,, anyways.
you and mingi have known each other for years now but the two of you have never even bit each other, not that it was a common thing to do between friends, but then wooyoung came and bit your shoulders before greeting you, "HELLO MINGI'S FRIEND WE'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT YOU, NICE TO MEET YOU. YOU ARE HIS FRIEND SO YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY OUR FRIEND TOO"
even though he was so hyped up in front of everyone else, when only the two of you happen to be away from the rest, wooyoung would probably check with you if he had crossed the line earlier on. because while he wants to just be himself, he also understands that not everyone is comfortable with it, and that maybe him being so loud and open gave you no chance to open up to him, ironically. conclusion, he's also a thoughtful boy, just a little too excited sometimes.
"oh yeah, and sorry i called you "mingi's friend" instead of your name, i kinda forgot."
Tumblr media
⭒❃.✮:▹ jongho
there's a lot of things about jongho that intimidates the hell out of you. why is this boy good at literally everything???? you wouldn't win him at sports, or singing, rapping, drawing, and the list just goes on and on. you were always a little intimidated by him, but today was just,,,, too much. so you were trying to piece together a jigsaw puzzle with wooyoung and jongho just had to come into the room right when you were visibly stressed out.
"wooyoung, i really can't find this piece i need oh my go- grrrrr" you grunted as you sift through the countless number of puzzle pieces with one hand, the other pushing your hair away from your face. and jongho just watches the two of you quietly from the corner of the room with a plate of fruits in his hands because he doesn't know if it was the right time to interrupt.
"can i help" he finally asks after a few minutes. so you let him, and somehow he's piecing the puzzle together faster than you and wooyoung combined, and this scares you because now you feel like a fool. and being so stressed out in front of him was just embarrassing with how he was doing this with ease. on top of all of that, you didn't need to be worse than jongho in yet another aspect. but on the other hand, your friend was very amused.
"shit, how are you so good at this too" "you just got to stay calm so you can think straight and see clearly" jongho answers, intentionally shooting you a glance and a smile, and you feel heat rushing to your cheeks. you can't tell if he was making fun of you or not, though you would not even blame him for doing so. jongho leaves the plate of fruits with the two of you and leaves the room shortly after helping piece almost a quarter of the puzzle. but right before he leaves, he says "feel free to ask me for help if yall are still struggling"
"wooyoung, please tell me that was him being friendly"

I first read Percy Jackson and the Olympians in the summer or fall of 2009. The trailer for the movie had just dropped, and a bunch of my classmates were reading the Lightning Thief every waking moment; they couldn't put it down. I didn't understand the hype but it looked interesting, so my mom bought me a copy from K-Mart, and I was instantly hooked! I just so happened to be 12 at the time, so it felt like the books were written specifically for me (I even had black hair and lived near the ocean; I wanted to be Percy SO BAD).
Over the next few months, every time my parents went to K-Mart for any reason I would beg them to let me come along, and then I'd beg them harder to buy me the next book in the series (they wouldn't buy them for me all at once because they were like seven or eight bucks a pop, so I had to space them out going into 2010). They sold paperback copies of the first four, but the Last Olympian was an oversized hardcover, so it doesn't match the rest of the collection (this still bugs me to no end).
I remember in the summer of 2010 when the Heroes of Olympus series was announced, I kept refreshing Rick Riordan's website for the cover reveal. I was so excited that you got to see the characters' faces this time (in a blurry jpeg, but I still thought it was super cool). He also published the first chapter for free as a teaser, and instead of scrolling through a wall of text it had pages you could click and drag across the screen like a real book, which blew my 13 year old mind.
My older sister grew up on Harry Potter, but I didn't get into that series until 2011 when the final movie came out (I had seen them all with my mom and sister, though not in order and I wasn't really paying attention), so PJO was the first series that got me interested in reading outside of school. I could hardly wait to read Heroes of Olympus, and I was SO upset when I realized it kinda stunk. I don't know what it was about that series, but it took me forever to slog through Lost Hero, and I couldn't even make myself finish Son of Neptune, I was completely checked out. I never got around to reading any of the others, or the Trials of Apollo series, or Magnus Chase or any of the other spinoffs; they just weren't my cup of tea.
The Lightning Thief movie was, well, different than I expected, but I didn't necesarilly hate it (I thought the actors were too old and it really bothered me that Annabeth wasn't even blonde!), but Sea of Monsters was downright unwatchable. I'm really glad they didn't adapt Titan's Curse because it would have blown HARD. I have zero expectations for the upcoming Disney+ show, but as long as Rick Riordan has ANY creative input as a producer it can't possibly be as bad as I fear (knock on wood). I'm 24 going on 25, I feel like I'm too old to get excited about a kid's show, but this series will always have a special place in my heart.
Fingers crossed that the show doesn't suck. I liked the musical, so this stone hasn't been bled completely dry just yet.

pls do talk more about b*s and their current image (censoring because if you don’t have great things to say i don’t want you to be attacked by their crazy stans :))
i always bring this up when i talk about them but it’s really :( that they are the way they are now. like i was a fan because of their hyyh era and their songs about the troubled youth. and of course they can’t stay in that image forever (because we all grow up and it would just be v fake if they tried to continue it given their status and wealth now.) it’s just disappointing that they went down the ‘safe, disney image’ and are releasing generic mainstream pop songs people will forget after a couple listens. i’m no longer a fan of them now but yuh.
also not to mention how they essentially made kpop boring for me now lol i wish companies had fun with their music selections instead of aiming for whatever b*s has. like we will never get a group like orange caramel again (i know wjsn chocome’s concept was similar but it just didn’t feel the same. you talked about it before and i wholeheartedly agree with ur points.)
thank you for the consideration of censoring the name but honestly i'm not that worried about it. i do however find the increasingly creative ways people censor it to be extremely hilarious so keep it up if you would like.
i addressed most of the first part of your ask in the second part of my response here, this is now the third installment in a series, somehow. (the first part is here).
not to level this at you in specific anon, because i know a lot of people share this sentiment of kpop being 'boring' now, and while there is an element of this that is influenced by bts, and although it is true we aren't getting the same level of wild that produced orange caramel, there is actually interesting and kinda weird stuff happening in kpop; it's just not by the groups that are getting the most attention. dreamcatcher has been out here doing horror rock since their debut in 2017. onf has put out two excellent summer pop tracks with fun and stupid genre mvs. i love this recent ghost9 track. i'm obsessed with the instrumental in the chorus of bdc's moon walker. just b debuted last month with a strange bang yongguk track and a very 2013 feeling mv. here's another weird and fun boy group debut, blitzers. a.c.e have put out favourite boys, the fave boyz remix, down, and higher as their last four releases which all have the most coherent and well designed concepts in the last year. and while i'm at it i might as well include take me higher and undercover. oneus put out a mad max themed performance video randomly for no reason like three weeks ago. the rest of the industry were cowards for not following up on to be or not to be with a shakespeare comeback wave. rip onlyoneof but they gave us a whole three week comeback of dick grabs. hanya brought my attention to this weird as shit debut track from a group that has now totally disappeared. knk's sunset exists. we moved on way too fast from the mv because taeyang was being cunty on music shows but sf9's teardrop has probably some of the most interesting shots in a kpop mv in the last several years. and we definitely moved on too fast from my favourite just some guy and goofy movie character woodz's feel like.
i think it's pretty fatalistic to view bts as having singlehandedly made the industry boring because honestly......i don't think they have. if you want to talk about the downturn to plainclothes styling....well that's shinee's fault. and the general trend to less dramatic fashion and visual tastes is not exclusive to the kpop industry, it's been a whole cultural trend. the mid to late 2010s were the rise of 'normcore' and we haven't burst the bubble yet. bts is just reflecting trends happening in the wider world, and in particular the western one. for the most viewed kpop mv of 2020 dynamite did....what exactly? it didn't really spawn any significant copycats in terms of sound or aesthetics, with the exception of maybe superm's we do if you look at it a bit sideways. although this is one of bts' better styled mvs, 70s retro did not make any resurgence in kpop styling, EXCEPT in magazine and fashion shoots, which it was already doing in the west. taemin's criminal was significantly more influential; i can think of at least three different male soloist mvs that borrowed heavily from it. honestly i think stylists and groups are trying to steer as clear as possible of whatever aesthetics bts uses, lest they accidentally doom themselves to a (perceived) slighted fanbase. plus, there's been a pretty sizable resurgence in contemporary hanbok styling, so even though there is a lot more outward attention going to things like international promotions for other groups and whatever the hell sm keeps trying to do with nct, i think a fair amount of companies are interested in maintaining the koreanness of kpop while facilitating broader global access.
and honestly, bigger acts have also put out interesting things in the last year. we did all see taemin's back to back release roster for ngda right? criminal? idea???? advice???????? fuck, chocolate was barely a year ago. whatever your opinions on yunho are, thank u is fucking brilliant mv. sunmi's tail. lie to me and tell me the mv for you can't sit with us isn't fun as fuck. i dunno what the hell the new nct127 song is gonna be like but the teaser photos and mood sampler are weird as hell and i'm absolutely interested. he's only kpop adjacent at the moment but jackson's 100 ways and lmly are really sharply produced low budget mvs with clean and interesting visuals. maniac shot to the top of my most listened immediately after it dropped because lia kim AND those slick horns in the instrumental???? ten's paint me naked was not at all what i was expecting but it's still fun as hell and has a pretty unique aesthetic.
the tldr of this whole three parter is this: bts has always been reactionary to wider cultural trends and that's been how they've made it this far. yes their influence on the industry looms very large because of the predominence of them on the scene, but it's mostly in the perception of kpop rather than in the artistry of it.
i don't think any company is going to be able to achieve what bts and hybe have, which i think is fine. they're the scale tipped too far. hopefully by now most companies have probably noticed that they don't need to cater to the western market so hard, and that it's probably not a good idea to offer their artists up on the racist chopping block of the western pop scene. you can market to an international fanbase without trying to gun for a grammy or for billboard or whatever. creating interesting art should be at the fore, not numbers goals. but we're just gonna have to wait and see what happens in the next year or so.

Royals Reality Ep.2
hannah, seri, and miya gather together and talk about how their members found out they were doing a collab album
Tumblr media
{legend: yoonmi seri hannah} {italics are english}
well, this is our second episode
it’s still just a little strange
right? we’re here, filming together without the boys
it feels kinda like we’re incomplete… but, anyway, what’s today’s agenda?
how about we start off with how this whole thing came to be?
easy. the companies talked, then they asked us if we’d like to try it out. now we’re here! that’s basic stuff, they want to know the juicy bits like reactions and all
the two girls laughed at seri who just gave them a pointed look
she has a point. miya, how did the bangtan oppas take it?
i experienced it first hand, they were terrified
oh god, i think i almost gave them a heart attack
Tumblr media
Yoonmi arrived back from the studio at three in the morning. She expected everyone to either be asleep or in their rooms doing their own thing, but Jungkook was there on the couch, a box of pizza open.
“About time you came home.” He leaned back and used the pizza in his hand to point to the rest of it. “Eat before it gets cold.”
“Cold pizza isn’t too bad,” she smiled as she sat next to him and grabbed a slice for herself, “not when it reminds us of trainee days. Did you wait up for me?”
“I did. You spend so much time in your studio, I figured you’d forget to eat dinner.” He looked her in the eye as she nibbled on her slice. “Which is strange. we’ve already finalized Be. Are you working on a solo comeback?”
“Not exactly, but I am working on something new, yeah. So how was your day?”
Yoonmi couldn’t tell, but the gears in Jungkook’s head were spinning. She was already working on new music? But it wasn’t for a solo… Was she producing for another group again?
The next day, she came back home at nine in the evening to six boys looking at her expectantly (Yoongi being in Daegu for his shoulder’s recovery). She looked at them weirdly as she removed her coat and took off her shoes.
“I came back early today,” she held her hands up in surrender, “like I promised. Why the weird atmosphere?”
“Where were you?” Namjoon asked her. She was taken aback by his question. “You said you had a meeting in the morning then you’d work on a new project afterwards.”
She laughed and sat next to Jimin who put an arm around her. “Well, I didn’t lie. That’s what I was doing.”
“You weren’t in your studio,” Jungkook noted.
“Also, you met with the creatives team?” Hoseok looked at her worriedly. “You only meet with them when we or you or TXT are having a comeback.”
“Well, I’m not having a comeback.”
“Neither are TXT,” Taehyung noted. “Not for a while. They just released Blue Hour.”
“Why the secrets, princess?” Seokjin asked her.
Yoonmi laughed and shook her head. “I wanted this to be a surprise, but you all look worried. I was at SM because Boa sunbaenim asked me, Seri, and Hannah unnie to join her for her special stage.”
The other boys sat in silence while they processed her words. She laughed at their stunned faces before heading towards her room.
“That, and another thing. I’m a little tired, so I’ll go head to bed, yeah? See you in the morning, oppas.”
Once her door shut, the members quickly turned to each other.
“That can’t be it,” Jimin began. “Another thing? What’s she doing?”
“I already knew about the Boa sunbaenim stage,” Namjoon noted,” that really isn’t it all yet.”
“I heard her saying she was working on her line distribution,” Jungkook’s eyes widened.
Hoseok suddenly sat straight up. “She only goes to meet with our creative team alone when it’s for her solo albums, though.”
“Hyungs,” Taehyung caught everyone’s attention, “you don’t think that, with Bighit acquiring Source Music, they’re going to make Yoonmi leave us and debut in a girl group, do you? With Seri, too? Beomgyu mentioned that Seri’s always gone, too.”
“Of course not!” Seokjin laughed nervously. “She’s our kid, and she’s our makdungie. Seri’s TXT’s middle ground. There’s no way they’d make them do that? Right, Namjoon?” has
Everyone turned to their leader who looked back at everyone slightly worried.
He rubbed his forehead. “Unless they want to leave on their own…”
Another silence fell upon the members. Jungkook immediately stood up and knocked on Yoonmi’s door, surprised to find it locked when she never locks it.
“Mimi,” he called, “sleepover?”
“Sorry, Ggukoo oppa, not today.” Her voice was slightly muffled through the door. “I have to stay up a little more to work on this project, then I’ll be right to sleep.”
Jungkook’s shoulders slumped while he looked back to his hyungs. His wide eyes and scared expression made him look like he was sixteen again. He looked like he did when Hoseok was considering leaving the group. Yoonmi never denied sleepovers with Jungkook.
“What did we do wrong?” Seokjin asked. They were all dumbfounded.
For the next few days, Yoonmi found herself receiving a little extra care from her older members. She’d arrive at the studio to find extra plushies, some of the older members’ hoodies, or maybe a few snacks hanging on her door. The members would come in with meals at set times. There was considerably a lot less roughhousing with her, and the hyung line in particular would sit with her and ask her about what ticks her off, which isn’t much, honestly.
One day, she was going through the letters from ARMY she had on her wall when Taehyung and Jimin popped into her studio. He had a laptop in hand and sat her down before beginning to play their video from the BTS Memories of 2019.
“What is all this?” She was confused as they sat her down on her beanbag chairs by the wall.
“Look at all the amazing things we’ve done together,” Jimin smiled at her, “you know, all of us! Eight of us! Together!”
“None of us need to leave, ever!”
Yoonmi laughed when Jimin elbowed the younger 95-liner. She knew where this was going. Honestly, she was kinda amused but sorry for worrying them.
“You guys think I’m leaving the group?” She laughed. “Do you guys not remember 2017? I’m not leaving! I’m just doing a collaboration album aith Seri and Hannah unnie, and I wanted it to be a surprise. I guess you guys got scared, huh?”
“Nevermind, Soobin. Forget what I was saying.”
Yoonmi turned towards the door to find Jungkook hanging up his phone. He grinned at her before running straight towards her and trapping her in a noogie.
“You’re here to stay!” Jungkook’s cheers were joined by the 95s as they trapped her in a hug. She let out a giggle.
“So much for that surprise.”
Tumblr media
that’s adorable as—
unnie!
hannah laughed and held her hands up in surrender and chuckled while seri tossed them both bottles of banana milk
no wine? we’re all adults here
unnie…
the bangtan oppas are strangely endearing… how did suga oppa take it?
they didn’t tell him. something about keeping him from dying
i wouldn’t put it past him. how about you, seri? soobin told me he didn’t find out until jungkook oppa called him
oh my god, they almost ate me alive
Tumblr media
The TXT members were gathered in the Bighit artist lounge. They were taking a break from practice and just messing around. Seri found herself in the bottom of a dogpile consisting of the 02 liners and Yeonjun.
“Okay,” she laughed out, “I’ll pay for the next takeout! Now get off!”
“But, noona.” Taehyun didn’t finish his statement. He buried his face in her neck instead, his laughter tickling her alongside Kai’s hair which was lightly brushing her face.
“My kids are adorable.” Yeonjun was cooing at them before jumping on top of them and making the maknae line squeal in laughter.
Beomgyu was off to the side avoiding getting crushed and taking a video of them. Soobin, on the other hand, was on the other side of the room laughing at their antics when his phone rang. He was a little surprised when he saw the contact name.
“Hyung,” Soobin began as he picked up the phone, “why the sudden call?”
“Soobin.” Jungkook’s tone was alert and a little panicked. “Has Seri been out recently?”
“She’s usually out, yeah. I think she’s meeting with friends. You know how she is.”
There was a sigh on the other end of the line. “Have you been doing anything that might have made her annoyed with the group?”
“Well,” Soobin looked back at the dogpile on the couch, “I don’t think so. The kids and Yeonjun hyung are a little extra clingy, and she’s been paying for our takeouts recently.”
Soobin was confused. Why was Jungkook so worried?
“Listen to me, Soobin,” Jungkook began, “Yoonmi’s been disappearing lately, and things are pointing to a new girl group debut. We think the company might be taking Yoonmi and Seri away to debut them with girls from Source Music.”
“Seri wouldn’t let that happen.”
Soobin’s nervous laugh caught the attention of the five other members as they turned to him. Seri gently nudged the members off of her and approached Soobin who looked at her worriedly and wrapped a hand around her wrist. His grip was tight.
“That’s what we thought about Yoonmi,” Jungkook added, “but Namjoon hyung thought, what if they wanted to leave? That’s why we’re trying to see if we did anything wrong to her the past few months… Oh.”
“Hyung?”
“Oh… Nevermind, Soobin. Forget what I was saying.”
“HYUNG!”
The call ended. Soobin’s panicked face made the other members worry. He turned to Seri with wide eyes, hiding his phone away and holding both her shoulders. He bent down a little to be on eye level with her.
“Lily,” he began, “have we done anything wrong to you in the past few weeks? Months, even?”
“Not that I know of.” She looked at him in confusion. She exchanged glances with Beomgyu who just shrugged.
“I promise I’ll get the others to lay off of you, and I’ll pay for all our meals,” he pulled her into a hug, hiding his face in her hair, “just don’t leave us!”
“Soobin, what are you talking about?” Yeonjun laughed. “I don’t think Seri’s leaving us anytime soon.”
“Please don’t.” Soobin was hugging her tighter at this point. “I know we’re not girls, but we can do cuter concepts or something. Please don’t leave us to join a girl group!”
“WHAT?” “GIRL GROUP?” “LEAVE?”
“Guys, wait!”
Next thing Seri knew, she was pulled away from Soobin and was being hounded by all her members with questions. She felt arms pull her down into a lap and secure themselves around her waist like a seatbelt. She turned her head and saw Kai with a determined look on his face.
“Guys…”
They were all talking over each other, some members asking what they did wrong, others listing reasons why she should stay.
“Could I say something?”
Her words sailed over their heads while they tried to reason with her. Eventually, she sighed and took in a deep breath.
“I’m not leaving!” Her voice was just above a yell and enough to silence everyone. They winced at her voice. “Would you guys relax? Looks like the surprise is over.”
“Surprise?” Beomgyu looked at her. She sighed and nodded while placing her hands on top of Kai’s to try and get up. He tightened his grip on her, though.
“Nope,” he shook his head, “not until I’m 1,000% sure you aren’t leaving.”
“I’m doing a collaboration album with Yoonmi and Hannah unnie! You guys couldn’t get me out of this group if you tried.”
They looked at her.
“A collaboration album?” Beomgyu asked her. “So, you’re not leaving the group, right?”
“I wouldn’t even if I could,” she reassured them with a smile, “not when you guys are literally my family now.”
“Oh, thank god.” Yeonjun pulled the five of them into his arms for a group hug. “None of us are leaving, alright?”
Tumblr media
you see, the problem here is you two tried to make it a surprise when you know you have overprotective members
well, what did you do, unnie?
it’s not like you just told one person then suddenly everyone knew
there was a silence as hannah smirked and popped some popcorn into her mouth. yoonmi and seri exchanged a look
oh my god, no way
listen here. nothing big happens in my group without the others finding out in at most an hour
Tumblr media
Hannah tried to sneak her way into the practice room without being caught. They still had a while before the music video filming, but they were already working hard to practice for Resonance. It just so happened that she had a meeting for the collaboration project right before scheduled practice.
She didn’t go in unnoticed.
Mark sat next to her and bumped his shoulder against hers. “Hey, you were gone before I woke up. Why so late to practice?”
She snorted and took out her sneakers to change into from her bag. “First of all, I’m not late. I came right on time. Second, I was in a meeting with the uppers.”
“Jesus, Hans, what did you do?”
“Nothing! It was just about this collaboration album I’m doing with Yoonmi and Seri.”
“Oh.” Hannah waited two seconds while Mark processed what she told him. “COLLABORATION ALBUM?”
He stared at her in surprise. The way he yelled made the 22 other people in the room with them turn their heads towards her.
“Well, yeah,” she shrugged while beginning her stretching routine, “collaboration album. The higher ups spoke to Bighit for some reason then asked us about it. Now, Yoonmi, Seri, and I are doing a collaboration album. And, no, you guys don’t get to hear anything in advance. Not even Mark.”
She looked up from where she was sitting straddle on the floor and stretching forward. The 23 boys were all still looking at her weirdly. She sent them a questioning look.
Johnny chuckled. “Only you would regard preparing for a collaboration album in the middle of promoting a different album as an everyday thing.”
“It won’t help me if I freak out.” She shrugged and hopped over to the computer that was hooked to the speakers. “I wanna go home early, so how about we do one run before our choreographer gets here?”
Shr saw multiple heads turn to Taeyong who shook his head fondly and nodded. He told everyone to get in position. Donghyuck made his way to her, a spring in his step from excitement.
“You’re spilling all the details later.”
“Alright.”
She laughed at him as he got in position and invited the members next to him to join them. She shook her head, already knowing that all 23 of her members would be staying behind to hear the details. Well, the details she was willing to talk about. It would take a while considering she knows a bunch of then would have a ton of questions. But that was a worry for later. For now...
She pressed play then ran to her spot.
Tumblr media
that was… uneventful
we were in the middle of promoting an album where we debuted two new members and mix and matched technically four sub-units. nothing was really that surprising at that point
ooooh are sho-chan and sungchannie coming to our showcase?
believe it or not, they were the first to confirm
well, to nct sunbaes, sorry to say this, but you have the most boring reaction for a group with 24 people
hannah snorted at that while yoonmi covered her mouth to keep from laughing. a few giggles were escaping her, though. suddenly, there was a knock on the door. yoonmi went to open it and came back with boxes of fried chicken
just in time for our next video’s topics
talk about impeccable timing
wow, that felt like no time at all… but i guess we’ll see you guys on the next video?
hannah and yoonmi followed seri’s lead and looked into the camera while waving their hands. waving the chicken boxes, in yoonmi’s case
next video will be interesting
you bet. the production process and behind the scenes stories are what we’re gonna talk about, so be sure to watch as well
Tumblr media
yoonmi, no, wait!
a small crash was heard
there was an empty wrapper where you were gonna step
i think i know that now
what am i gonna do with you two?
