#that's not true i also care about the plot

ive been told another one of my fics (over my head) seemingly draws too much inspiration from another preexisting fic (hits different cause its you).

while i 100% do not believe this belief to be true, ill be taking it down to avoid any issues (ill be leaving it up for the rest of the day in case you'd like to save/archive it for ur own reading and then will be removing it altogether). my fic and this fic were posted one month in difference and my full-length fics usually take me months to complete, so any similarities in plot were purely coincidental.

id like to take this time to clarify that a few of my fanfics do utilize tropes/concepts ive seen other authors use but that id never actually copy or steal the actual subject matter of someone else's writing in my own. i was told by this same author that apparently there's been other writers who have issue with some of my fics copying their own, so if you're one of those people, i invite you to come forward and let me know so i can remove whichever fic you feel is similar to your own.

i want people to understand that a lot of writing on here will reminisce one another due to being about the same thirteen individuals who all share specific dynamics and personality traits, along with tropes and trope progressions being similar (if you read my fics i use the exact same trope progressions 90% of the time). and that i could easily pull up a few fics that read similarly to each other but are not the same.

i will remove any 'copied' writing (despite me knowing this is false) to avoid any issues because i dont want to entertain this. though i completely admit my fault regarding my imitation of another writer in my previous post, i wont entertain the idea that most of my writing is copied, because it is not.

with this, i will post the last few works i had already been planning on posting and move onto removing the rest of my work from tumblr altogether. for full transparency, i have a few other works i am in the middle of writing and will be posting those to patreon (i frankly dont care about anyone's opinion on my use of patreon, by the way).

i have a lot of stressors in my personal life, which is why i would only ever pop in here to post writing and leave immediately after, so i am not entertaining anything that makes this space the slightest bit uncomfortable/annoying for me lol sorry! writing has been fun, and the few people ive met on here have been very nice and i will miss them, but im not sitting and waiting for false accusations about my writing due to a mistake i made and admitted to as soon as it was pointed out to me.

id also like to clarify about my patreon since ive gotten complaints before: i do not feel any type of way about it. that money has been incredibly helpful for real-life money issues ive had and im incredibly appreciative of anyone who's supported me. ill continue posting there for a while before ultimately stopping my writing altogether.

im sorry to anyone who liked my writing on here. i'll keep it untouched for a few days in case anyone would like to save it or archive it for their own personal reading. and if anyone would like to read 'closer' (the fic i took down yesterday) message me and ill send you a google docs of it so you can personally keep it for yourself.

I have nothing to add on the topic of disorders, and I agree with everything mentioned above except one. The resulting body is not the desired effect but all the FMCs still *retain* their desirability factor despite losing weight. Nesta starving herself doesn’t affect her boobs or ass though they are fat and they should also show signs of her unhealthy state. But Cassian can’t lust after just skin and bones and still be loveable, can he?

Also, Rhysand gaining weight. You give too much credit to SJM by bringing in the stress from war and childbirth when this is clearly to imply that Rhysand has been slacking off since the war and is living the dream life. That weight gain can only be the result of laziness and inactivity. So yeah, fatphobia.

Okay, last one I promise. SJM watched a couple of reels by insta health gurus and decided that’s enough when writing Nesta’s diet. “Eat protein before a workout, it will carry you through the workout.” “Cut out all sugar from your meals.” These are advice for someone like Cassian who eats healthy and trains every fucking day. Not Nesta who has been starving herself for months!

Cassian denying sugar is sick on multiple levels. This is the first time Nesta is showing interest in food. Instead of letting her have whatever she wants and ease her into a healthy diet with time, she is outright guilted and shamed. Also, a little spoon of sugar in her food would do no harm in her current state. And she definitely wouldn’t survive the Illyrian cold or the training with the basic oatmeal that Cassian deemed a fit meal for her.

Moreover, she shouldn't be able to keep the food down since her body is not used to eating for months. Even if she wanted to, she should be struggling. The thought of food should make her sick.

This is besides the point but SJM is a visual writer. The story plays like a movie in her head and she writes it down, which isn’t unique to her and most writers fall in this category, but she never goes beyond it and does a simple research. Which is why her stories are more aesthetics oriented rather than the plot or the implication of what she puts on paper.

Feyre undergoes similar reaction after returning from UtM but instantly she’s cured once she is close to Rhysand when her starvation stems from her trauma and guilt. Nesta starves herself because of her self-hatred but she is cured when she accepts the strict regime (however she still shows no true acceptance towards her body and only acknowledges some perks of it as seen in HOFAS bonus chapter). I wouldn’t even say these are mentioned for the romantic interests to identify the FMC’s problems. These are included in the same vein as violence in these books. Sulking in a corner isn’t appealing enough or screams trauma like violently throwing up.

Nowhere in the plot is it ever addressed as an eating disorder lasting over a period of time, instead as something akin to skipping one meal out of stress or pain. I am not equating the two but that’s how SJM sees it.

This also enables plausible deniability if someone accuses of her misleading her audience, she can just deny ever explicitly mentioning it in text. We see it with the POC characters (how tan are the batboys and Lucien truly? Only the characters she doesn’t care about are dark-skinned), Bryce (she isn’t exactly curvy but if audience relate to her, then SJM is inclusive, and if not, Bryce never was curvy), other ethnic characters (Thesan, Amren).

Anyway, SJM is a shitty writer who needs to take accountability for whatever she writes.

ACOTAR Discussion

Okay, so recently my mutual @sonics-atelier posted this fic Perfect To Me (which is so fucking amazing, I cried, go read it rn) and in this fic, they write about Tamlin developing an eating disorder (specifically anorexia) since his body changed after starting to get Spring back on its feet. And it started me down a whole rant about fictional characters being the pinnacle of beauty standards, specifically in relation to what they're bodies look like. So, to save my mutuals the long spam texts about my thoughts, I'm gonna post em here.

General trigger warning- Discussion of a variety of eating disorders, body dysmorphia and Cassian.

SJM covers disordered eating within ACOTAR, it happens specifically to the female characters. And this is something, I have a huge problem with. That might seem like a massive asshole sentence, but let me explain my thought process.

These eating disorders are not well respresented, they do not further affect the plot, they only serve to be an outward appearance to the male saviour characters that something is wrong, and they never appear on the female characters in a way that makes them any less pretty, in fact, I would say, the resulting skinniness from said disordered eating, is the desired result. By that I mean, yes I think SJM writes her female characters starving themselves to make them fit the female beauty standard.

This is very evident with Nesta, who somehow miraculously only grows thinner in the waist and hips when she is starving herself. But still has massive breasts which Cassian makes a point of oogling, despite noticing how thin she is everywhere else. Instead of taking Nesta's not wanting to eat anything and turning it into a plot point for her character in which she learns to take care of and eventually love her new Fae body, SJM decides to further starve Nesta, but Cassian limiting her sugar intake, so she reminds the same 000 size in the waist.

Now, onto what really, truly makes me angry within SJM's series. Character's gaining weight, rather than losing it.

This happens once in the series. It is one singular comment, that put me off Cassian forever.

"You need to get out in the practice ring, brother. Don't want your mate to find any soft bits."

This comment was from Cassian to Rhysand in the third chapter of ACOSF, after looking Rhys up and down pretty much.

May seem like a harmless jab to a lot of people, but take into account all of the context around it.

Cassian had just been eyeing Nesta's body-clearly suffering from the effects of long-term starvation, like a hunk of meat.

They had just won a war not long ago-still coming down from the stress highs that would have no doubt been enough to put any normal person in bed for a month.

Rhysand had only recently found out about Feyre's pregnancy, if I remember correctly-would have also found out about the risks, and would be dealing the extreme stress that would be causing.

It would be incredibly normal for Rhysand to gain weight because of all these factors. Not to mention this being the first (and I'm fairly certain) only time, SJM's mentions a male character gaining weight, and it being in such a negative light, could only suggest she, and thus Cassian, find the idea unappealing or perhaps downright abhorrent.

Which really fucking pisses me off.

Most of her female characters have experienced a form of anorexia throughout the books as a trauma or stress response. And it never exists to go further than making them more conventionally attractive.

Now further on her male characters, not a single one of them ever has an ounce of fat on their body. Weight gain is entirely out of the question, even when it should be the obvious occurrence due to whatever change in their situation.

Now this also brings me to another problem I have, which also leeches into fandom behaviour.

We all love Tamlin's tits, ofc, ofc, but muscle behaves like fat if its not being actively flexed. Tamlin's pectoral muscles are no doubt incredibly strong, and would, probably be able to crack a nut (no pun intended) if flexed. But if they werent, they would be soft and squishy. No one talks about THAT THOUGH DO YOU???

Not to mention, that, Tamlin is a beast creature, wandering the forests, not training or exercising properly, and is only gouging on the carcasses of animals he kills. This could be an excellent time to lean into weight gain, and the intense feelings of guilt, and body dysmorphia that it brings.

Lets also discuss Gwyn, a traumatised young woman who fled to the Library in order to live a life of peace. She has never trained a day in her life before becoming a Valkyrie, why is she so skinny?

It's never mentioned Gwyn having any kind of reaction to her trauma that affects her eating (as far as I remember) and I think it would be far more interesting to delve into the effects grief and the lose of a dear loved one has on the body and ones eating habits.

Lets talk about Elain, who is said to use baking a coping mechanism, why is she skinny? This is the perfect opportunity to delve into a character binge eating, then extreme guilt from the times where they were in poverty, and purging. But finding comfort in food because food = wealth, wealth =safety.

And in the end, a character can be fat and be happy. Why do we have so many characters that are so thin at the end of their books?

So many of these characters also have near no stability, their diet would not doubt be changing constantly from the inconsistency in their living situations. Which should to lead to drastic changes in their body. This could be a very interesting way to explore body dysphoria. Hating seeing yourself in the mirror even if you just survived battle, because you can hardly recognise yourself. Changing so much in the mind and not even having the comfort of your body being the same. Especially with Nesta and Elain being Made against their will. I honestly believe Nesta's starvation should have been her hating her new Fae body so much that she just wants to destroy it. Her healing, should have been learning to love herself, no matter what body she is in.

In the end, your body is you, but you are more than your body. Bodies are such incredibly fascinating tool, and people don't always have to like what it looks like to care for it. Bodies can be smaller, bigger, stronger, they take your brain wherever it wants to go. But they are not all of you. And that should have been what especially Nesta's journey could have been.

Anyway, this is incredibly sensitive topic for a lot of people, so I do really want to open this up to everyone. What are your thoughts on this topic? One thing I loved that this show did is accurately capturing audience reaction to the cliffhanger in the last episode. All of us were here gushing since last week 'Oooo look how she protected her husband. She's so in love. Screams infinitely.'

But I love Haein getting annoyed at that saying she didn't do it because of that. She didn't want to become the 'Juliet'. She did it to cause problems for Yoon Eun sung. I really like the way it was addressed. I mean we all had an idea declaring her love for him wasn't the only reason but she was rightfully annoyed on how taht took center staged. And not the annihilation she served Yoon Eun Sung. Boss queen lady's mind is absolutely fantastic when it comes to business matters.

it’s with depression that i fear i have to say, i think for a long time (too long really), zuko doesn’t reach out to his uncle during his retirement in ba sing se, not even for the much needed guidance he could use, because he considers it part of the exhaustive list of reparations the fire nation (and he himself) owes

it actually needs to be studied how little i care about the zodiac academy characters. because usually i am naturally more drawn to characters and plot lines from longer series which makes sense because thinking about it logically, you spend far more time with those characters than with those in standalones or shorter series. its sort of of like comparing tv shows to movies, you might like them both, but youre going to spend more time thinking about the characters you watched the most screen time of (this is almost certainly why i have horrible addicted series brainrot that only multiplies each time i reread it. the time i’ve spent with those characters compared to others is off the charts)

now i won’t pretend to know off the top of my head how long this series was and i don’t really care to check i just know that it’s around 8-10 books probably and after this i am about to log that i finished this book and then NEVER think about these characters again im so sincere they will never cross my mind. the fact that i even got reminded that the last book released was a fluke i genuinely might have never remembered to circle back to it and im not sad about that but its just SO UNUSUAL to read this many books about a group of characters and walk away not feeling at all changed by them or feeling any connection whatsoever. and that is the truest testament to how poorly written this series was. goodbye and goodnight. see you NEVER zodiac academy 🫡 (🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳)
