He has arms! The wire is a little flimsy but his pawsies are too small for normal rods so they will have to do until I can think up something better. I am happy that he is all assembled finally!

Some photos taken of the construction of the Rabbit puppet built by Matt Brooks for The Book of Pooh (2001-2003)
A small departure from what I usually post, but I’ve always been fascinated by the puppetry in the series and it’s fun to get a look behind the scenes!
Along with Brooks, Rabbit was also puppeteered by Noel MacNeal, Paul McGinnis, and sometimes Tyler Bunch in place of Brooks.
Production photos also give some neat insight into the process behind the puppetry and filming. Take this one featuring Rick Lyon assisting with the Tigger puppet for instance!
On his website, Lyon says:
“… a picture of me with Tigger -- I happened to be assisting with his hands that day. Why am I wearing that freaky green outfit? The puppets are performed Bunraku-style (from behind, usually with three puppeteers performing one character), with the puppeteers in green from head to toe in front of a green background, which is keyed out (like a weatherman standing in front of a weather map). The scenery for the show is all computer generated, in real time, such that wherever the camera turns, the computer-generated scenery shifts accordingly.”
He also shares photos of some of the other folks behind the series. Pictured here is Ronald Binion, principal puppeteer behind Eeyore who also designed and built the puppet, and Amanda Maddock, another principal puppeteer who happened to be performing Owl.
“Per-forming Eeyore is really tricky -- he is, after all, the only quadraped in the cast, and that makes it incredibly hard to manipulate his legs without green rods crossing his body and creating problems with the key.”
Pictured amongst a flurry of puppeteer action is creator and executive producer Mitchell Kriegman. Along with having directed many of the episodes, Mitchell is also the creator behind another show featuring puppets, Bear in the Big Blue House.
Ron Binion also shares some photos that offer a glimpse into the filming of Book of Pooh on his website as well, as seen here.

The song was performed by Bear (Noel MacNeal), joined by Treelo (Tyler Bunch), Ojo (Vicki Eibner), Tutter (Peter Linz), Pip (Peter Linz) and Pop (Tyler Bunch).

Noel MacNeal, likely best known for his role as the titular Bear on Bear in the Big Blue House, various roles on Between the Lions, as well as writing for Gullah Gullah Island, and various roles on Sesame Street and Muppets projects, is currently the vacation cover for Audrey II in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors
#does anyone know where a certain someone (me) could find an audio of his “feed me”?#i know he has done adult roles before and has a LENGTHY career#i did not expect him to be Audrey II though! good for him!!!#he is SUCH a talented puppeteer#theatre#musical theatre

🎀: What’s the best gift you’ve received? What in your opinion is the best gift you’ve given someone?
🎀 I’ve been blessed with a lot of really great gifts. My mom’s friend gifted me with a signed Spider-Man two poster by Sam Raimi, who directed the original trilogy. my mom is pretty great at gifts. When I turned 21 it was during the pandemic so she got me zoom calls with Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum because I love Smallville. this birthday was also where she got me two autographs from people and two of my favorite movies of all time. And they’re super cute and I just adore them so much. This past year for my 23rd birthday she got me an autograph from Joseph Quinn, which I love so much. Last year for college graduation, she idiot got me a cameo from Noel MacNeal, who voices Bear (from Bear in the Big Blue House), this was a favorite show of mine as a kid, and she had him congratulate me on graduating college, and it was the cutest thing ever!! I’m sorry I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging but it’s so hard to pick a favorite 🥺
In terms of giving gifts, that is my love language. I don’t need to be given anything. I would rather give gifts any day of the week. I got a former friend tickets to a concert that she really wanted to see. I for Christmas this past year made little gifts sets that I sent to a couple of my friends from university!! I bought my mom a meet and greet with one of her favorite celebrities. I’ve bought my dad, a signed a script of his favorite movie, from one of his favorite directors! I love giving gifts. Hell I love everything I give because I like to think of the people that I’m buying it for and it’s so much fun to just get them something that I think they’ll really enjoy!
thank you lovely!! I’m sorry this was such a long answer 😅🫶🏻

ok, so, something i regularly do when i have a shower is argue with myself, it doesnt matter what, it always happens.
today it started with the song i'd been listening to, 'Good Morning, Good Morning' by the Beatles, tried to sing it, but I don't remember the words, the only song i could remember with something to do with the sun and mornings is the one from Bear in the Big Blue House, of which I only know the end of it, the 'Good Morning Ray, Good Morning Bear' bit. and that got me onto my main argument. if I was arguing who had the most effect on younger me, or even me at my current point, Noel MacNeal, the guy that played Bear, might be up there. the example I gave myself was, if there was like a contest for who had more effect, and the current entrants came up to me and said;
'Hi, I'm Kevin Conroy, and I played Batman for like 30 years'
'Hi, I'm the guy that played Bear on Bear in the Big Blue House'
Noel'd probably win that. He'd win most of them. then I got myself with a trickier entry.
'Hi, I'm the guy that played Bear on Bear in the Big Blue House'
'Hi, I'm Jay Laga'aia'
Jay'd probably win that. (Jay Laga'aia was one of the hosts of Play School, a long-running kids show in Australia, it's 56 this year, and i had like 4 of his albums growing up)
so that got me to the stage that I was thinking that the only people who could beat Noel are; people from shows which were big and important to me as a young kid (Steve from Blues Clues) or people who were on a show i kinda watched in the mid-2010s and come back to watch now (Jonathan Tan from Detentionaire or Jay Baruchel for the Dragons animated show)
also, there was this show i kinda remember watching in around 2014 called something like Bionamals, and i thought it was so cool, it had like 3d animated animals interacting with a live-action guy, and they took him to their cgi worlds, and I thought it was the shit. i have no idea if it actually exists or not, the wiki article for shows that ABC4kids aired doesnt mention it, neither does the similar article for ABC3. so i have no idea. it's probably canadian, 90% of the shows were.

I once listened to an interview with Noel MacNeal, who was the voice and puppeteer for Bear on Bear in the Big Blue House, and he spoke about how since Bear was a full-body puppet (like Big Bird or Mr Snuffleupagus), it was even more immersive because he could walk around and interact with people, even doing a meet-and-greet at Disney World on one occasion.
Like if you watch Bear’s appearances on Hollywood Squares or Donny and Marie, he’s able to come out on stage like a regular guest star, and there’s no need to hide his puppeteer or ignore the fact that he’s perched on someone’s arm.
youtube
I should also note that throughout this interview Noel was constantly referring to Bear in the third person, fully treating Bear as his own person instead of just him in a giant suit.
As I grow older I feel my capacity to understand that Miss Piggy is not a real person reached a peak in my adolescence and is now on a steady decline. I watched a Wendy Williams interview and there's this part that's like "can we get a ring cam!" and Miss Piggy shows her bling and I'm just like fuck she's so iconic. Miss Piggy who are you wearing? Miss Piggy have you ever considered running for office??

Woke up to find that Bear of the Big Blue House himself liked my Bear in the Big Blue House tweet o.O
[ID: a screenshot of the notification page on the Twitter app showing that a tweet from OP, RadarsTeddyBear, reading “The #BearInTheBigBlueHouse ep about Tutter’s birthday (1.03) has a whole bit abt how little ones can get so caught up in the festivities that they think it’s *their* birthday, & Bear talks through it w/ Treelo in such a lovely way. It makes my child development heart so happy 💙,” has been liked by Noel MacNeal 🇺🇦. End ID]

I'm sincerely curious what the legal status of someone building a Bear puppet for Noel MacNeal would be. Like, he doesn't have access to the original costumes since they're either in storage or destroyed. He doesn't own the character. I'm not sure who is sitting on that license.
Legal or no that is a thing that's happened.
#it's silly that he didn't have access to a puppet of that character#but I'm also wondering if he's going to get cease-and-desisted#i guess it's worth clarifying that noel macneal performed the bear in the big blue house#it's kind of funny how much his normal speaking voice sounds like the character#i suspect at least one of the playhouse Disney live show costumes survives somewhere#i can't remember if the Henson company or Disney own those characters#I'd imagine the Henson people would be less stupid about it
