Life As We Know It
Ransom Drysdale x Reader
Warnings: language, mistakes, shitty writing...(2.7k words shit)
A/N: this is for the nacho-baby weekly challenge @optimistic-dinosaur-nacho @captainchrisbaby. Go check it out and support these loveliess!! <3
This is completely based on the movie:)
Master-list
“I can’t believe you are doing this” Ransom scoffed sitting on the couch watching his best friend fixing his tie. Peter turned towards him and a frown. “What do you mean by that”
“I mean look at you, we used to have so much fun but then you suddenly decided to get married,” Ransom said, making peter roll his eyes.
“You are saying this because you have never experienced love but one day ransom you will be standing there trying to fix this damn thing and I’ll not help you” Peter spat, still struggling with the tie.
Ransom stood up and helped his friend. “You know that’s not gonna happen. I don’t do this love shit.”
“Yeah, I know. You are an asshole. I mean you even didn’t take y/n out that day ``Peter sighed remembering, setting him up with her to- be- wife’s best friend.
“Oh god. Stop it, Peter, she was such a bitch to me, I was just an hour late and she insulted me in front of all those people.”
Peter didn’t say anything, knowing Ransom wouldn’t accept his mistake…
-----
“Omg, Alice you look so beautiful.” y/n said, her eyes filled with tears to see her best friend getting married.
“I’m so nervous, it’s time, right,” Alice said pacing around the room. y/n nodded and led her outside where everyone was waiting for them.
There she saw ransom standing beside Peter as his best man and suddenly her mood was spoiled because of his face. She knew he was going to be there but she wanted to avoid him.
The ceremony started and when the priest announced them as husband and wife, ransom made a gagging noise, which to her surprise everyone laughed at.
y/n shook her head in annoyance. He was such an asshole.
The whole evening went without any hitch, ransom got busy with some chick and y/n was enjoying her time with her friends.
And finally, it was time for speeches. Everyone made their speeches, even Ransom. y/n waited for everyone to finish, for her emotional speech.
But when it was finally her turn suddenly a tipsy ransom started the music and danced interrupting her in the middle. She felt so mad and was ready to hit him when Alice pulled her into a hug. It wasn’t the first time ransom was being an asshole to her, they had always been like this especially after the date, Peter and Alice set up for them.
Everyone knew about the rivalry so they ignored the rude intrusion of Ransom.
~
The next time the two saw each other was on Sophie’s 1st birthday. Ransom didn’t want to go but for the sake of his friend, he went there and because he was the co-god parent as well.
On the other hand, y/n was excited and was preparing the birthday cake for Sophie’s birthday. Ransom and Peter entered the kitchen. Ransom was picking up Sophie and brought her near the cake.
Sophie giggled seeing the bright colors on the cake. “You like it, baby. You like your cake” y/n cooed at her but suddenly barfed and started to cry.
Fortunately, the cake wasn’t ruined but ransom was laughing loudly. Alice stood up and took the baby in her hands.
“Omg this is hilarious,” ransom said, teasing y/n only to receive a deadly glare from her.
“Oh you two, don’t start now. She must have overfed” peter jabbed in before they could start to fight.
Everyone gathered in the living room for the cake cutting. Alice put Sophie in y/n’s hand and mentioned her to cut the cake. y/n looked at her in confusion but did it anyway. Peter also pushed ransom in their direction.
“Go on, you both are the Godparents” And with that, they both grabbed Sophie’s hand and cut the cake. Everyone cheered, making the baby giggle. “Say cheese,”
Alice said and clicked a picture of them. Everything was perfect, all of them were living happily. Sophie with her parents, ransom his bachelor life and y/n focusing on her career.
But suddenly everything was shattered when both y/n and ransom received a call of the accident. y/n was in the hospital when ransom came and saw her. Her eyes were swollen because of crying. Ransom looked at her in questioning but she shook her head.
The doctor came out and declared their friend’s death. y/n couldn’t control herself and began to sob.Ransom reluctantly, pulled her into his arms.
They both were worried about Sophie, she was too small for all of this.
`------
The next day they were called by Peter’s and Alice’s lawyer to their house. They both were sitting awkwardly next to each other, waiting for the lawyer to explain things.
And the things they had been told about blew their minds. “What?” they both declared.
The man in front of them just nodded.
“They made you both the joint guardians of her,” he told them again.
“What does that mean,” ransom said.
“How could we do anything. How are we both gonna take care of her?” y/n cut him off.
“Well, it’s all up to you. But whatever you guys decide, just remember if you couldn’t take good care of her they’ll put her for adoption.”
“They, who they?” ransom asked incredulously.
“Child protection services. They gonna observe you both for few months before you guys officially become her parents”
“Parents? We are not even married” Ransom yelled. But he just shrugged in response and stood up to leave.
y/n kept sitting in her seat, without moving. She was too shocked to understand anything. One second she was celebrating with her friends and the other, she was a mother?
But Ransom’s condition was even worse than her. He was worried about his life, he never wanted to be a father, he never wanted to settle down. But it wasn’t an issue right. The CPS wouldn’t be satisfied with them both and… Sophie would go to some orphanage and then some family would adopt her.
He didn’t know why but thinking about that made him feel worse than before. Sophie wasn’t an orphan, his friends made them her godparents.
He looked towards y/n who was still sitting there. “What are we gonna do?” he asked, for the first time like a normal person.
“I think… we should try this. For Sophie, for them” …
----
It was a tough decision, they both knew. But somehow they both started to tolerate each other. They still fight but not as usual.
And surprisingly ransom was enjoying this life, with Sophie. He was preparing the milk bottle for her because y/n was taking too long in the shower.
Sophie was crying in front of the TV which ransom thought to switch on to distract her. “Shh... it’s okay baby, here I come”
Ransom ran towards her with the bottle and took her in his arms. Sophie started to feed, with her eyes now glued to the tv screen. And suddenly it was peaceful.
y/n came downstairs after some time, her hair was still wet, and saw ransom sleeping in an awkward position with Sophie comfortable on his chest.
It had barely three weeks since they were living together and y/n’s opinion about ransom was starting to change. He still was an asshole but he could be responsible too.
He had helped her so much, always volunteered to take Sophie out whenever y/n would be working from home, he sometimes helped in changing her diaper as well.
She walked towards them silently and bent to take Sophie from his grip. Her face was too close to ransom and her wet hair touched his cheek making him open his eyes.
y/n’s breath got stuck in her throat when he opened his eyes. Ransom on the other hand didn’t understand anything that moment but then he looked down, their hands were touching as they both were grabbing the little girl.
Ransom gave her to y/n and sat up. y/n turned towards Sophie’s room to put her in the crib.
When she came back ransom was still there.
“Have you eaten anything?” y/n asked as she was warming her food in the oven. Ransom shook his head, so she served him too.
They both kept eating in silence. And for the first time, y/n thought maybe they could handle this whole guardian thing but god she was so wrong.
The very next day they fought.
It was evening when she was ransom getting ready to go out.
“Oh, you are going somewhere?” ransom hummed without looking at her. “Well, take Sophie too then cuz I’ll be going soon too. I’ll have to meet a client” she said.
“At this time?” he asked incredulously. y/n nodded and tried to give Sophie to him.
“No, I’m going on a date okay. I can’t take her” he stepped back.
“God ransom! Date?? I have a meeting to attend, can't you go tomorrow?” she asked but he just shrugged.
“No, I gotta go, you change your plans this time” and before she could reply ransom went out of the house.
y/n let out a frustrated sigh and called her Eva, her colleague to ask her to keep Sophie for a few hours.
But the time she dropped Sophie to her house and went to the meeting she was twenty minutes late.
“I’m so sorry for being late Mr. James.” she apologized but the man just shook his head complaining how long he was waiting for her.
Aside from that, the meeting went well and she came back home with Sophie. She was still pissed at Ransom.
Couldn’t he wait for one day to bang a chick? She wanted to yell at him but he didn’t come home and eventually she fell asleep.
It was past midnight when ransom came and saw her sleeping on the couch. He ignored her and went towards his bedroom locking it from inside. He knew there was a war coming tomorrow. But now he was too tired to think anything so he just went to his bed…
------
The next morning ransom went to the kitsch where y/n was making her breakfast. “Can I have some too?” he asked, his voice hoarse from sleeping.
“Go ask the chick you banged last night.” her reply made him annoyed.
“Oh C’mon y/n, it’s too early for your shit” he scoffed which made her angrier.
“My shit Ransom? I was humiliated last night because of you,” she yelled but before he could reply the doorbell rang.
He turned away from her and walked to open the door. A woman dressed up professionally was standing there.
“Hello, you must be Mr. Drysdale,” she said.
“Ransom” he replied grumpily.
“I’m Jenny, your CPS caseworker,” she said and walked inside. She looked all over the house, and ransom was internally panicking.
y/n came outside and saw the woman. “Hello,” Jenny greeted and explained her reason to come. y/n and ransom sat in front of her, as if were in some interview.
“Where is the baby?” she asked them. y/n got up with a smile and brought a sleepy sophie downstairs.
Sophie looked comfortable with y/n as if she was with her own mother. Their behavior with Sophie satisfied Jenny but she felt them a bit rude with each other.
Their answers were not the same about Sophie's routine.
“Well, you don’t know that cuz I took her for check up last week.” y/n whispered angrily to ransom.
“Oh so now you're gonna act as if I don’t do anything for her? I was the one cleaning her shit when you were too busy with your work but look I didn’t complain like you”
But before y/n could reply back Jenny cleared her throat awkwardly making them look in her way.
“Well, look, you guys are really good with sophie. Trust me I've seen so many worst cases but what I’m worried about is you two. If you couldn’t adjust with each other how you gonna keep Sophie as a family. So it’s better you decide to patch up or we could look for a new family” jenny declared and stood up to leave.
“Two more weeks, before that, decide whatever you want."
y/n and ransom watched her go and sighed. y/n sat on the couch.
“We can’t do this.” she whispered to herself. “We can’t be them, they were perfect, they never fought. And look at us.” she chuckled.
Ransom frowned at her but agreed. “You are right. This was never going to work out. I’m even surprised I made up this far.” he scoffed.
That day no one talked to each other. Even Sophie could feel something was wrong. She looked up at ransom and cooed gaining his attention. Ransom looked down and smiled at her.
“D..da..d” she made, grabby hands towards him. His breath stuck in his throat hearing those words. Who knew someone would call ransom drysdale a dad? and he would even like it?!!
And that moment ransom knew there was no way he would let anyone take the single chance to live a happy life…
-----
y/n was in her room packing her things. She thought she would be happy but she wasn’t. Living with ransom and Sophie became normal, just like they were a family.
But they weren’t perfect, as a family should be.
y/n was looking under the bed to find her things when she saw a box. She pulled it out and saw dvd’s and albums inside it.
It was all Peter and Alice, the moments they captured. The wedding, honeymoon and when Alice got pregnant.
“No Peter not blue” Alice yelled behind the camera. They were painting the baby’s room.
“But she will love blue sweetheart. Not all girls are the same” peter argued.
And then the video ended with their silly arguments, just like her and ransom. Wait, did she just compare her and ransom with them?
“So they weren’t perfect either” ransom voice came from behind. She turned to look at him, expecting him to wear a smug smile but he wasn’t.
There was a weird sadness in his eyes. y/n shrugged.
‘Does it matter. They are gone and now we will be too,” she wanted to cry for sophie.
Ransom walked towards her and kneel down. “Last try? And this time not just for Sophie or them…. But for each other too?” his eyes were filled with hope.
“This time, i won’t be late. I promise” y/n chuckled, the tears spilling from her eyes. “You better not be”
Ransom smiled and kissed her hand.
------
Two years passed and the small arguments between Random and y/n were still there. But what’s the fun without arguments? These little things are what makes a perfect family.
“C'mon sophie come to me” y/n said. It was Sophie's second birthday and yes, y/n made the cake this time as well.
Ransom chuckled seeing Sophie ignoring y/n and continued doing her thing.
“Hey, princess come to me, it’s time to cut the yummy cake” hearing his voice, Sophie giggled and took small steps towards ransom.
Y/n watched them with a wide open mouth which only made ransom smirk.
“You know she loves me more, she even called dad first.” saying that ransom ran away before y/n could burst out on him.
Everyone was present there, their friends, family, celebrating her birthday. It was the best time for ransom. So after eating the cake he walked towards y/n who was laughing with her friend.
He tapped her shoulder making her turn. Ransom knelt on his knees and took out a hand. Everyone gasped seeing this.
“Never in my life I thought I would do this, but y/n… you made me do this, you made me experience what love is. And now I want the same thing Peter did.”
Sophie came from behind with a small black box and gave it to ransom. “So y/n y/l/n, Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" ”
Y/n jumped out of excitement and nodded her head. Ransom placed the ring on her finger and stood up to kiss her.
Everyone cheered at the couple.
She looked at her parents smiling at each other, a picture of them smiling was hanging on the wall from Sophie's first birthday.
And that moment both, ransom and y/n thanked their friends to choose them as the guardians...

[ ObiRyū October | Day Sixteen | Incantation ] [ @abyssaldespair ] [ Uchiha Obito, Suigin Ryū, Hatake Kakashi ] [ Verse: Ghost Among the Ghosts ]
[ Previous ] [ Next ]
“Hi, Mom...it’s me again. I brought you some fresh flowers! Sorry I left the other ones here so long...I’ve been busy the last few weeks. School is going well, but...it’s a lot of work. I’m keeping my grades up, at least. But that means less time for...everything else. And no, I still don’t have a boyfriend. Or a girlfriend, for that matter. But maybe that’s a good thing. I’d be really inattentive lately, and that wouldn’t be fair. I dunno, maybe I’ll meet someone after, y’know? But if work is busy too, then...guess I’ll just be a crazy old cat lady. Though I don’t have a cat yet…”
She’s rambling. But then again, that usually happens when she takes a day to catch up with her mother. Sitting cross-legged in the grass, Ryū lets an elbow rest on a knee, chin held in a palm. It’s nice to just...sit and chat.
And given Reika can’t really reply, it means she can go on for as long as she wants.
“Dad came to visit yesterday. That was nice. He said he was going to stop by and see you while he was here. I hope he did. Guess he didn’t leave anything, but...well, I told him I was going to stop by today. Maybe he just figured things would get cluttered, otherwise.”
Beyond the freshly-replaced flowers, Reika’s headstone is clear. There’s a small growth of lichen, but she’ll take care of that while she’s here. Otherwise, the polished black marble is flawless.
“Anyway...I guess there’s really not much else to report. Kinda stuck in a bit of a slog, I suppose. Same routine over and over. Classes change, but the routine doesn’t.” Shifting positions, she leans back on her palms, sighing. “There’s a few people I’ve seen in a couple of classes with me, but...haven’t really made any friends. Dad says I’d scare them away anyway cuz I spend so much time here.” Ryū can’t help a snicker. “I might’ve had my baby goth phase in high school, but it didn’t stick. I just...like dark clothes and hanging out with my dead mom! Nothing weird about that, right?”
The only answer is wind rustling through the cemetery trees.
Another sigh escapes her, seeming to get lost in thought. “...guess I kinda just fell into it all. The image, I mean. People were always calling me Ghost, so...it was easier to roll with it than fight it. Is that weird? Maybe not. Guess I just kinda adopted it. Maybe part of it’s still sticking, huh?”
Another thoughtful silence before she straightens, hauling herself to her feet and brushing leaves and grass from her clothes. “Well...I won’t bug you any more today. Though I’m not really looking forward to heading back to my dorm. It’s so cramped, and my roommate snores. Not to mention I have an essay to do when I get there. So maybe I’ll just...wander around a bit. Y’know...procrastinate.”
After clearing the lichen, Ryū says her goodbyes before heading further into the cemetery rather than back toward the gate.
It’s strange. She’s here so often, yet she’s never really taken the time to look at any other parts of the graveyard. Even back when she was embracing her spooky image in high school.
Better late than never, she supposes.
The further you go, the older the plots get...and eventually, entire family crypts start popping up. Ryū eyes them curiously, feeling an old itch start bubbling up to the surface. Maybe she’ll just...take some pictures. For old time’s sake. Surely nobody will mind, right?
Out comes her phone, subtly snapping photos of some of the more unique headstones. One bears an entire full-size weeping angel, arms outstretched to the sky in mourning.
“Wicked…!”
Okay maybe her goth phase isn’t as over as she likes to pretend it is.
Soon enough she’s losing herself in it, taking artsy pics of as much spooky splendor as she can manage. The cloudy Autumn day only adds to the atmosphere, she can’t help it!
And then she hits the motherlode.
Looming up out of the gloom is one of the crypts: its own stone building to inter members of a family. And this one is massive...let alone clearly old as old gets. A wrought iron gate blocks access to the interior, and no matter how she cranes her neck, Ryū can only see so far.
Backing up a few paces, she realizes there isn’t a family name carved anywhere in the stone. That’s a bit odd. Instead, a phrase is etched along the top of the threshold. Usually it’s something in Latin, but...this doesn’t look quite right.
Brow furrowing, Ryū reads it over a few times in her head. Maybe it is Latin and she’s just...really rusty. But her curiosity persists, and so she googles it.
...nothing really comes up.
Well, drat.
A sigh escapes her, tucking away her phone for the moment. Under her breath, she tries sounding it out, doing so slowly with the Latin pronunciation that she knows.
As soon as she finishes, a flash of cold washes over her, seemingly coming up from the crypt.
Every hair on her body stands on end, tensing as eyes fly wide.
...what the…?
Fog then begins to plume up the steps, curling around the gate. And as she stares, Ryū sees hands slowly reach to grip the bars. Then with an ear-splitting creak, it starts to swing open.
Oh this is not good...what did she do?! What, was that some kind of...incantation? That stuff isn’t real…! And why would it be carved into a crypt?!
A deep, raspy chuckle then sounds, and a shiver runs its way up her spine. Every part of her brain is screaming at her to run...but she can’t get her legs to move, locked into place as she trembles.
“Well well...been a while since anyone’s given those words a read. Was starting to wonder if anyone would ever bother…”
With a lurch, she manages to stumble back half a step, body feeling rigid and stubborn. “Who...who’s there…?”
“You mean to tell me you read the invocation, and you don’t even know who you’re talking to? I should be offended. And here I was so relieved at finally getting a chance to stretch my legs! Hell gets so boring after a while…”
A figure then starts to emerge from the fog. And Ryū’s heart feels about ready to jump right out of her chest. Hell...this person’s from Hell? Then...doesn’t that mean -?
“I guess I can still manage an introduction. But...you first, hm? Only polite, since you rang.”
...is it wise to tell them that? “It...it’s Ryū. M-my name is...is Ryū.”
“Ryū…?” They seem to roll the word around in their mouth, as if tasting it. “Hm...I suppose that’ll do. And my name...is Obito.”
They take one last step, and Ryū beholds the demon in all their glory.
...it’s not an image she expects.
It’s not a gargoyle-like creature. No cloven hooves, no horns. It’s just a...a man? Wearing black slacks, shining black shoes, a violet button-down shirt, and a black vest. A hand wrapped in a fingerless glove adjusts a matching purple tie. Short dark hair, glowing red eyes, and...and…
Scars. All over the right side of his face. Some even peek up from under the loose collar of his shirt.
“Why is it everybody always stares, hm? Something on my face?”
Ryū forces herself to blink. “...I-I -?”
Ignoring her, the demon glances around. “...huh. Not where I expected to pop up. No one’s used this place in a long time. Being nosy, are we?”
“Wh-? N-no! I...I was just looking, and…?”
“And decided to recite the obviously-demonic carving on the wall?”
She sputters. Obviously demonic? How was she supposed to know?! “I-I didn’t know that’s what it was! I-I swear!”
Obito just rolls his eyes. “Uh huh. That’s what they all say.”
“Can’t you just, um...g-go back where you came from?”
“I’m afraid not, you see…” He starts sauntering toward her, her own legs attempting to retreat. “Demons, once called out of Hell, can only return once they have their contracted’s soul in their possession. It’s a system. And given that you called me...that means you.”
“I-I didn’t call you! It was an accident!”
“Yes, yes...you humans and your accidents.” He steps closer, Ryū finding herself with nowhere to run as her back finds a tree. Leaning in, Obito gives her a very unabashed once-over. “...hm…”
“W...what?”
“I think you’re lying.”
“Wh-? Why would I lie?!”
“Because I can smell it on you.”
“Smell what? I-I just took a shower this morning before I came to see Mom!”
Obito gives a roll of his eyes. “Oh, brother...so you don’t know…?”
“Know what?!”
“That you’re a witch.”
She freezes. “...I’m a...a what?”
“Oh come, now. Your appearance is telling enough. Tell me...did your mother look like you? All ghost-like…?”
Ryū feels the blood draining from her face. “...I…”
“Thought so.”
“I am not a witch! I just had a goth phase in high school! And the only reason I did was because everyone forced it on me!”
“And why do you think they did that?”
“Because I look like this!”
“And? You really think they couldn’t tell? It’s a subconscious thing, especially in this day and age. Very few people legitimately cry ‘witch’ nowadays. Most who do just get laughed at, but they’re out there. Or rather, you’re out there.”
Head shaking, Ryū rebuke, “Well...still! Witch or not, I did not call you here on purpose! So just...go back where you came from, and leave me alone!”
“I told you, I can’t do that. Not until I harvest that soul of yours. Or...mine, really. Semantics.”
She stares at him. “...so, I...I really am stuck with you…?”
“Until you utilize your contract, that’s exactly right. So hurry up and make your request so we can get this over with.”
“...and if I don’t?”
“Don’t what?”
“What if I don’t make a request? What if I just...ignore this so-called contract I didn’t agree to? Then what?”
Obito’s face goes slack. “...you can’t do that.”
“Why not?”
“For one thing, contracts have consequences the longer they go on. Consequences that are rather dire for mortals. Eventually you’d just be begging for me to end it, so there’s no real point in drawing things out.”
“I could...I could hire an exorcist!”
That earns an outright laugh. “Oh, you could. But it wouldn’t go well. We’re contracted. My suffering is your suffering. And vice versa.”
...well shit. She’s running out of ideas. Surely by now demons are rather used to all the ways humans try and wriggle their ways out of contracts. Ryū’s eyes flicker back and forth, trying to think of a solution.
All the while, looking amused, Obito watches her. He’s never actually met someone from a witch bloodline before. While they don’t all look like she does, that just makes her all the more unique. Part of him wonders what her skills would be. Are witch souls worth more than a regular human soul…? He’s not actually sure. But he’ll admit, it feels rather tantalizing compared to other humans he’s contracted with. Almost seems a shame to waste it.
“...you know, there is one way to circumvent this whole ordeal.”
He speaks without meaning to, her head shooting up.
“...and what would that be?”
“You could always become a demon yourself. It’s not easy, and technically you’d still be damned, but...you wouldn’t die.”
A stubborn scowl overtakes her face. “Not sure that’s much better.”
Shoulders shrug. “Just letting you know. Hell’s really not all that bad when you’re on Lucifer’s good side, you know.”
“...I’ll bear that in mind,” is her dry reply.
“You really should make up your mind. Time is ticking. And I’ve got other things I could be -”
“Hey!”
The pair of them turn, seeing another figure making its way toward them. Silvery, messy locks fall over a fair face, the bottom half obscured by a mask. There’s really not much remarkable about him...except for a glint of silver that jostles around his neck as he runs.
A cross.
Behind Ryū, Obito’s eyes narrow.
Reaching them, the newcomer holds an arm out between them, barring Ryū back. “I’ve been waiting for you to show your face again. Let her go!”
“This is none of your business, Kakashi. She summoned me.”
“I told you, it wasn’t on purpose!” Ryū insists from behind Kakashi’s arm.
“It’s too late! Intentional or not, what’s done is done. She has to forfeit her soul one way or another. I’m just doing what I’m meant to do.”
“Don’t you remember what it’s like to be human?” Kakashi barks in protest. “Why hurt them when you used to be one, Obito?”
Ryū’s eyes widen. He was human…?
Obito’s lip lifts in a sneer. “I was human. And that life was nothing but suffering. Poverty, loneliness, despair...and then a violent, painful end before I was even a man. Can you really blame me for letting that bitterness overcome me? Life wasn’t, isn’t fair, Kakashi. Humans suffer, and they cause suffering. They must reap what they sow.”
“And what has she done wrong, beyond being at the wrong place at the wrong time? Do you really want to damn an innocent just because you suffered in life? That won’t reverse what you went through. It will just make someone else suffer, too. Let her go.”
All the while, Ryū watches them both. It’s clear they knew each other before Obito became a demon. And if Obito is telling the truth, then...it seems to her that he had every reason to be persuaded into a role like this, given what he went through.
Suffering begets suffering, after all.
...then maybe…
“You can’t break this contract, Kakashi. You’re hardly strong enough to have any influence here. It doesn’t matter if she’s willing or not. It was a done deal as soon as she spoke the incantation. One way or another, I’ll -!”
“I know what I want.”
Both men turn to her, expressions equally surprised.
“Miss, no - you can’t go through with this! If you do, your soul will -!”
“You heard the lady, Kakashi.” Behind them, Obito gives a bone-chilling smirk. “She’s made up her mind. And about time. What’ll it be, then?”
Gently urging Kakashi’s arm aside, Ryū steps forward, studying the demon. “...so, in order for the contract to be fulfilled...you have to complete whatever task I give you...right?”
“That’s right.”
“No matter how long it takes?”
“Yes. But we demons are very efficient.”
“...and the task can be anything?”
“Well...there are a few exceptions. I can’t raise the dead, for example. Can’t make you immortal. But most things are on the table. Tell me your wish, and I’ll let you know.”
She can’t help a dry snort at the word ‘wish’. As if she sought this out. “...all right, then. What I want from you is...to protect me from all possible harm, within your ability, until I die naturally. Only once I’ve lived whatever life you can allow me to live can you have my soul. If you purposefully allow me to be killed to try to complete the contract early, then you’ll have failed, and the contract is null and void.”
As she speaks, Obito’s grin slowly falls to a neutral, and then surprised expression.
Behind her, Kakashi gives a humorless laugh. “...so, rather than a guardian angel...you’ve snagged yourself a guardian demon. Well that’s a first.”
Ryū doesn’t reply, still looking at Obito. “...so? Is that on the table…?”
Sighing curtly, Obito looks aside as if trying to think of some kind of loophole. But after a minute of silence, it’s clear he can’t recall any. “...I suppose it is.”
“And because you’ll be performing your contract, there won’t be any of those consequences you talked about?”
“...in all honesty, I can’t be sure. I’ve never had a contract quite like that. The longest I’ve had to wait was a week.” He looks her over. “...you really want a demon to be hovering over your shoulder for the rest of your life?”
“I figure that’s the best outcome I could ask for, all things considered” is her quiet reply. “...besides, something you said struck me a bit funny.”
“...and what was that?”
“That you were lonely.”
His face goes slack. “...you...can’t be serious.”
Even Kakashi has no rebuke for that.
“You’re extending your contract to the fullest possible extent because a demon implied that they were lonely…? You must be a special kind of naive, lady.”
She gives a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. “You’re the one who implied it, not me. Not everyone is a jerk, you know.”
He scowls, but doesn’t have a retort. “...all right, then. We shake on it...and your request will be set. No changing your mind. Got it?”
“Obito, I can’t let you do this!”
“There’s no can’t, Kakashi,” Obito retorts. “You couldn’t stop me if you tried. Buzz around her like an annoying little fly if you want. There’s no saving her.”
Turning to the other human, Ryū gives a somber smile. “I’ll be okay.”
“But -?”
Before he can try to argue, Ryū reaches out, and takes Obito’s hand.
The same rush of cold eddies around them, and Ryū can’t help but flinch as her hair whips around her face. Leaves kick up, the trees creaking as they get caught in the ethereal wind.
Hands still locked, Obito sneaks his other arm around her back, pulling them chest to chest with their hands pressed between them. A smirk curls his lips, hovering several inches over her own. “...it’s done.”
“This isn’t over, Obito!” Kakashi insists.
The demon turns to him, expression bored. “Well, I suppose you might have time to build up some power before she kicks the bucket. But I won’t be letting a soul go that easily, Kakashi.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to,” the demonologist replies lowly.
“Run along, then. Go bury your nose into your books and find some holy relics. You’ll be racing against the clock for this one.”
Glowering, Kakashi turns on a heel and leaves them.
“Finally, a little privacy,” Obito then sighs, giving a stretch. “You think he’d give that demonologist bit a rest…”
“So...you two know each other?”
“In a manner of speaking. But let’s not get into that, now. You’ve got a life to get to.”
It’s then that Ryū hesitates. “So...other people can see you…?”
“Only if I want them to. And even then a very small handful could otherwise. You’d be one of them, actually. If you had a bit more training, you might even be able to see what I really look like.”
“...you mean this is a ruse?”
He smirks. “...yes and no. This is my human appearance. I died at thirteen, but as a demon I’ve kept aging. This is how I’d look if I’d lived. But it’s not what I truly am, now. Not fully.”
“So I won’t have to explain why someone is constantly following me, then.”
“Not unless I decide to show myself. Which, for my own convenience, I doubt I’ll do often, if at all. I’d like this whole experience to be as painless as possible, since you seem to have it in your mind we’re going to be buddies in the meantime. Just think of me as a voice in your head that only you can see.”
...well, this is going to take some getting used to. But at least for now she has time. And it seems that this Kakashi guy wants to try and break this contract. Maybe he’ll succeed. For now, however...she’ll just have to adapt.
“...all right then. Come on. We’re leaving.”
“And going…?”
“Back to my dorm. I have homework.”
“You’re a student?”
“Studying to be a nurse.” She starts walking, and Obito follows.
“Riveting.”
“You’re the one who asked.”
Yes, this is going to take a lot of getting used to.
This is...super random but I guess it works for the prompt xD I dunno anything about demonology or whatever, so this is...purely me winging it. Also any religious mentions are just for the sake of context. That’s another subject I know little to nothing about lol A human (well, kinda) and a demon stuck in each other’s company. Surely nothing is going to wrong in this situation, right? Riiiight. I’d...say more but it’s late and this weekend is gonna suuuck so I’m gonna go sleep. Thanks for reading!

EBSS 24-28 June:
Okay, first off, I just have to hand it to the writers for covering so much ground in a span of 5 episodes. Was it rushed? Yes, for sure. But it was so, so good. Not on a single count of writing, did I feel dissatisfied. Star Plus has been ruthless, ordering a revamp so soon (ram jaane what trp they expected on this slot, esp. during the WC), but writers did an incredible job under so much pressure.👏 Its been a while I’ve been so impressed with the writing of a show, and I’m not going to stop gushing about it so soon.
Anyways, here are some scattered thoughts:
What a longgggg, and exhausting day it has been for Kabir, from parting with his wife and son, to finding out that his Dad is a shitty human being, to saving his Dad from burning to ashes, to finding himself and his family homeless, boy has been having a tough time, all within 24 hours. 😓
Initially, I was mighty annoyed that instead of giving us Kabir v/s Jahnvi, they started with the good bahu v/s bad bahu crap. Though happy about the revamp, I was curious about how will the writers manage to bring Kabir into the picture? And they did it quite smoothly. So, obviously good bahu Kavya has to poke her nose everywhere, but of course, Jahnvi can’t have that. So, she gets her out of the way, without doing anything really, because Kavya, like an idiot, has to stalk Jahnvi. Toh ab bhugto. I ain’t feeling bad for that girl. 😈
A lot of people felt it was wrong on Jahnvi’s part to frame Kavya, esp. considering she has been shown so concerned for Aarush. But the thing is, Jahnvi prizes her revenge above everything else, so it was obvious from the start, that Aarush would get hurt somewhere down the line. Will Jahnvi regret it in future? That remains to be seen.
Coming back, by framing Kavya, the writers managed to involve Kabir as well as, provide a dignified exit for Kavya. I loved the parting scene of Kabir-Kavya, surprisingly really, that by the time I like them, its too late. What I liked most, was Kabir insisting on leaving the house with Kavya, with their heads held high. Kavya already has the reassurance that Kabir trusts her, but Kabir didn’t want Kavya’s departure from the house under a cloud of accusation. He was so concerned for her respect. And that has made Kabir my most favorite male lead in the last five years, right after Asad. I just love male leads who can take a stand for females. Especially, in this case, because Kabir isn’t in love with Kavya, but he knows his duties as a husband, and friend. 😍
Kavya’s departure also seemed sensible. Even without Jahnvi framing her, PK didn’t lose an opportunity to humiliate her. The kind of asshole he is, I don’t ever see PK accepting Kavya. I’m glad she actually moved away from the shitty Mittal household, more so for Aarush, at least bachcha bach gaya. But I’ll miss baby Aarush. 😔
Now that his wife and friend was framed, obviously Kabir has to investigate, and it was the most natural transition from Kavya to Kabir as the protagonist (like it should have been from the start). I just loved how Kabir proceeded with it. The investigation, esp. the scene where he fools Amma with the microchip, was so sleek. The writers remembered that he’s a special agent, and I do assure you, its a rarity by ITV standards.
Another thing I’d like to highlight is that Kabir doesn’t lose his head through allllllll the shit that’s been happening. Why? Obviously, because he is an army man, and they are trained to deal with pressurized situations. The writers underlined this fact very subtly, I don’t even know if viewers caught on. After all that has transpired, Kabir was still being patient and composed when he was talking to Pooja.
Which brings me to Jahnvi/Pooja.....I love her so much. I think the best thing about Jahnvi is that she is so unforgiving. YAS! We need more female characters, esp. female leads who are unforgiving. Tellywood has innumerable times reinforced this idea of a kind and forgiving, farmabaddar, female lead. After Maya (of Beyhadh), thankfully this trend is changing. I am so, so glad that Jahnvi tried to immolate PK, and even gladder of the fact, that not just the perpetrators, but she punished junior Mittals too, in a way. It might seem unfair, but c’mon, they are grown up, educated adults who had a good childhood, and they can fend for themselves, unlike Pooja and Rani who lost their father, their childhood, and would have suffered a worse fate if Amma had not adopted them. Bless Amma, one of the best parental figures in ITV rn. 🤧
Was Jahnvi’s plan rushed? Hella yes. But there are two things here, first with Manohar, and then Kavya/Kabir, Pooja has had two close shaves. Even if she framed Kavya, Kabir was sure to find the truth. So, obviously she had to expedite her plan. Secondly, Jahnvi has been working on her plan for at least two years, I’m presuming, entering PK’s company as an employee, gaining his favor and trust on her skills over even his own son, then marrying into the family and gaining their trust. For the audience, the show is only two months old, but from the point where the show started, Jahnvi has already spent quite a few years reaching up till this stage, so she can’t delay anymore, especially with the chances of her cover being blown increasing.
The plan seemed too simple, but the thing is, PK was going to read the papers. For Jahnvi to avoid that, she needed two things, his unflinching trust, which she had gained over the years, and second, a pressure situation, where he can be distracted easily. I’d say finding out about a supposed arch enemy, threatening your rebellious son, and your Dad being paralyzed post a heart attack, can be pretty stressful.
Obviously Jahnvi could have lured him to a shady place and burnt him long ago, but she needed to ruin him and his family completely. So, getting the papers signed was a priority.
I think this is where the best part comes. OUFFFF Shrenu was so good in the scene burning down that house. The transition from pain and hurt, to resolve and anger, and deathly calm after she did the act. Terrific! 🔥 In the same episode, Zain and Ayub were great too.
Kabir’s motivations are so clear. He is the good cop, upholding what is right and just. Obviously he saved his Dad, because he is a son after all, but right next moment he threatened his father, in a non-negotiable tone, that he better surrender himself to the law.
And here we have the clash of values. While Pooja follows her own law, i.e. Hammurabi’s code of eye for an eye, Kabir staunchly believes in law and justice. I really liked that he restrained Dhruv, when Pooja ridiculed him, because he understood Pooja’s motivations and maybe even sympathized with her on some level.
It was a little thick of PK to shout at Dhruv and blame him for marrying Jahnvi, when he was the one who trusted Jahnvi the most in the family, and even ridiculed his son, and thanked the stars that his son was lucky enough to marry someone like Jahnvi. Hmpf.
About Dhruv’s actions, I’ve already mentioned in another post, so moving on to Pooja. I am so glad that she broke off the relationship. Why was it surprising to anyone that she had never married him for real? I thought it was obvious. I mean, she wasn’t going to really marry a guy, in the legal sense, for the sake of revenge. That too, the son of her enemy. I was so glad when she said, “Mere kareeb aane ki koshish mat karna”. Throughout the two months of the show, they’ve shown us Jahnvi’s discomfort when Dhruv comes near, even though she did feel guilty sometimes about using him. Imagine her relief to be finally rid of him. Agreed, she should not have ridiculed him like that, but there is no polite way of telling a person that “you are a dumbfuck and I used you for my revenge.” What annoyed me were the reactions on Twitter condemning Pooja for humiliating Dhruv, and insisting that JanRuv should be endgame, because ‘Dhruv loves her so much’. I mean, what sort of shitty male entitlement is this? More so, because it is propagated by female stans.
Anyways, coming back to the climax of this drama, SHRENU WAS PHENOMENAL. The transition from rage to mockery to a business-like voice telling the shitty Mitals to gtfo was so well done.👏 Esp. the moment, when she drills into their heads that ‘folks, that car ain’t yours, leave it’, I cackled so bad! 😂
I absolutely loved this week’s episodes. Only thing is, Imma gonna miss my shady Jahnvi Mittal. Shrenu was at her best with her micro-expressions and transitions, and I’ve never seen a more perfect casting on Star Plus in the past few years. No one else, and I mean it, no other actress on ITV rn can play Jahnvi Mittal, cuz no one has the calibre of micro-expressions that Shrenu does. 💜
But I’m ready for the open fight. Zain was so good this week, this show finally giving him what he’s capable of. Bring it on!

Pit-town Strays Ch.1
Kidlaw softness and redneck shenanigans in a northern mining town. Everything's fucked but whatever.
Rated T, no warnings, or just general warnings for setting-specific social ills and violence (racist cops, shitty parents, etc). Someone ordered wholesome kidlaw family feels? well HERE.
[Ch. 1] - Ch. 2 - Ch. 3 - Ch. 4 - Ch. 5
Read on Ao3 too, I’m Ossicle
“What the hell are you going to Pit-town for?” Bellamy chewed at Law with his mouth open, a smarmy sneer on his pasty face.
“None of your business.” Law scowled, turning his eyes away from his brother’s ground-up breakfast. He shoved a random pile of coursework into his backpack.
“Well I know what kids like you go up there to do. Everybody knows.” Bellamy drawled on, like he knew shit about anything besides scamming beer and shooting bottles at the quarry.
“Don’t make assumptions, idiot. I’m just babysitting.”
“Why?”
“It’s called a job? You should try it,” Law suggested primly. “Feet.”
Bellamy lifted his feet off Law’s pile of textbooks. “Why, though? You got that big scholarship, I seen the letter when it came in.”
Law frowned at him. “How did you…”
“Well it was just there, so I read it. Why don’t you move out, if you got all that money? You hate it here so much.”
Law waved this matter aside. “I owe that money to someone. Give me the volvo keys.”
Bellamy didn’t move his stupid stumpy self from the ancient recliner—prized spot in the basement space the three brothers shared. “No, I need it, I’m meeting up with some guys later to go down to the quarry. Dad said I could.”
“Bellamy, I need it to get to town. Just gimme the keys.”
“Well I need it to pick up little ladies! You can hitch, right?”
Law didn’t bother arguing. He sighed through his nose and slid his feet into his severely ratty sneakers before heading out into the yard.
“Don't tell Dad where I am or I'll tell him about your girlfriend!” Law called on his way out.
“Obviously,” Bellamy muttered.
The ancient volvo wasn’t feeling cooperative today, or Law was having a lapse or something because he couldn’t fucking hotwire it. He slammed his fist on the dash and took out his phone. It was an oddly summery fall day—not too cold to walk or bike—but his shoes were getting thin in the soles, and Law didn't like asking his dad for little stuff like that. Didn't wanna be such a burden all the time.
He scrolled through his messages and sent a couple off to see about a ride. But Robin (who'd suggested the job) was teaching, and Baby (sweet, bitter Baby) was already in the sauce.
BB: i cn still come tho? you real stuck?? big bro awwwww im sry
You: Nono dont go driving if youre partying it up, Ill hitch a ride I guess
BB: Where?
You: Just into town
BB: Where in town??????
You: The Pit.
You: or whatever.
BB: LAWWW NOOOOOOOOooo jus kidding lol no judgement here
BB: id sell it on weekends too if i were pretty liek U
You: I’m not selling my ass!!!
BB: Lol
BB: sure
BB: why else ndn boi hangs w miner trash? Shady.
You: Lots of reasons, including a babysitting job. Don’t make assumptions.
BB: “babysitting”” “””job”””’
You: Yes.
BB: God ur sheltered
BB: shltered bebe in u nice rich house
BB: don get picked up there, pit-town piggies love ndn bebes
Law pocketed his phone with an eyeroll and started walking down toward the highway.
Once he’d found a ride and gotten dropped off, it was a twenty minute walk from the highway to the Pit. Law ended up climbing over the bare, rocky hill behind the truck stop, cuz his phone’s map had the place all wrong. On top of the hill, he could see the Pit in all its glory laid out before him.
Pit-town was the weird little enclave where the town’s mine workers were housed, in tar paper houses as outdated as the mine itself. The tangled machinery of the refinery loomed just beyond the houses, and above all that, the smokestacks. White smoke drifted from their peaks, as high above him as the clouds. Nothing except low bush berries grew around here—it was like an outpost on the moon.
Law went down into the village. Men with tattooed arms watched him from pickup trucks, and women smoking in lawn chairs whispered. Half-feral dogs barked and circled.
“Ya lost, hun?” one busty woman called from her front step as he passed, and her friends chuckled.
“No…” he mumbled back, and hurried on as they all laughed.
He was flustered and out of breath by the time he got to the address, on the other fucking side of the whole village. The house was like the rest: a single-storey bungalow on a small plot of land with a car port full of dead appliances. There was a little pink bike lying on the front step, and a short dog chain attached to a pole in the middle of the bare yard. A deep trail had been trod in a circle around the pole but there was no dog in sight. Law went up and knocked lightly.
He stood there for a few minutes, feeling the neighborhood eyes on his back, before trying again. He knocked a little louder. “Hey, um. Hello?”
A harsh voice called, “YEAH IT’S OPEN.”
Law tried the door. “No it’s not?” he called back.
“YEAH IT IS JUST KICK IT AND TURN THE THING AT THE SAME TIME.”
“...No, definitely not open,” Law assured him after trying every kick-turn combination.
“AH FUCK.”
“Yeah.”
“OKAY, CAN YOU JUST BREAK IN?”
“...What??” Law was almost offended.
“I’M DOING A THING, CAN’T GET THE DOOR RIGHT NOW, JUST TRY SOMETHING.”
Obviously Law could break into stuff, because his shitty little brothers thought it was hilarious to lock him out of the house all the time. And because their father thought it was prudent to keep things like Law’s ID in a secure location. Law didn’t think that skill set was a great way to start this ‘job’ thing, though… He looked around at the prying eyes across the street and they flitted back behind their blinds. He sighed.
The lock was just one of the doorknob ones, and the jamb didn’t have a guard on it so it was easy to get a credit card in there. The door swung open and Law stepped into a cluttered hallway.
“In here!” the big voice called from down the hall.
“I here!” a little voice added.
Law navigated his way carefully, stepping over baskets of laundry, unreturned empties, and sealed up moving boxes. Something obnoxious was playing on tinny speakers in another room. He rounded the corner into a sweltering little kitchen that seemed like the only clear spot in the house.
There was a very tall redhead with a face full of piercings sitting at the kitchen table in his boxers, and a much smaller redhead in a frilly blue bathing suit beside him. They were painting their toenails black, with their feet up on the table.
The bigger redhead seemed really shocked to see Law. He almost toppled backward on his chair. “H-hi! Uh! You’re Native.”
Law blinked. “Yeah. Um. You’re naked.”
“I’m Nami!” announced the little girl.
The guy was pretty much naked, by Law’s standards. Also kind of jacked… Law could feel his face heating up and was glad that it didn’t really show on him. The man sitting there in his boxers was pale as a fucking ghost, though, and so his sudden flush was super obvious. He rushed to recover from that intro.
“I don’t mean like, ‘oh, you’re Native.’ Well, obviously you are, heh, but I don’t mind or anything!"
“Yeah, uh.” Law nodded helpfully. “I don’t mind either, that you’re… naked.”
“Kidd is a naked...” Nami sang to herself.
“I'm not even,” Kidd protested. “I'm just hot as hell. Aren't you hot?”
“Am I??” Law was completely lost.
“Not—! I mean, yeah, but you're in a hoodie? Aren't you sweltering?” Kidd clarified.
“Oooh. No, not really. I like to keep covered up,” Law explained, picking at a fraying sleeve. He supposed it was weird to be wearing jeans and a hoodie in this weather, but no weirder than wearing Crocs in public, like people here seemed into doing.
Kidd was distracted by Nami painting patterns on her feet with the nail polish. “Fuck, Nami, stop, we just paint the nails. It’s messy, see? MESSY.” He took the tiny girl and sat her on the counter instead, then went about cleaning up the table. “Sorry about the door. Can’t go anywhere with wet toenails, it smears like hell.”
Law nodded harder and went to help him. “It’s cool, I know how to break into stuff. I mean I don’t usually! But your door was easy. Not that I’ll do it again!”
“Not a problem… uh, Kidd. I’m Kidd. Hi.” The guy finally got his head together and extended a hand. His fingernails were painted black too. He had a really firm grip.
“Law,” Law replied in relief.
“And this is my sister Nami,” Kidd jabbed a thumb at the toddler perched precariously on the counter. “She’s a fucking psychopath.”
Nami ignored them, sticking towels into the toaster instead.
“You have a dog too? I saw the chain outside.” Law wondered.
“No, Dad took the dog with him. And the fuckin car…”
“Your parents are both working?” Law asked, and immediately regretted it. God, he really was sheltered.
Kidd blushed again and started stacking dishes.
Law rushed to clarify. “Or, ‘parent'? I only got one too—a dad. I'm adopted though, and my birth parents are both passed, so.”
Kidd was wiping off each dish absently under the running water, not really cleaning anything. “We got a dad and mom, they’re just… not around right now. So it’s just us! Which is better, believe me.” He growled the last bit under his breath.
“Oh, got it.”
“Anyway. I didn't wanna ask someone to come all the way here to watch Nami, but that bitch down the street won’t take her anymore because of lice or property damage or something, and I got an interview today. I’ll prolly find another illegal daycare somewhere around here if I do get this job, though, heh.”
“Yeah don’t worry about it.” Law tried not to seem squeamish at the mention of lice.
“If they do take me I’ll be starting right away, so I might be out til pretty late,” Kidd warned him. “I’ll pay you for however long you’re here for though.”
“Sounds good. You gonna work at the mine?”
This seemed like another sensitive issue. Kidd looked away and muttered, “No… you gotta be 21, and take all these courses and stuff. And anyway, like HELL will I end up in the fuckin pit,” he finished with unexpected heat.
Law was saved from having to come up with a response by Nami blowing up the toaster outlet. The kitchen appliances all blinked out.
“FUCK! Again…” Kidd rushed to pick her up and sit her back on the table as a loud dryer beep sounded from the bathroom. “And fuck, there’s my pants. Listen, can you grab a fuse from the drawer there and stick it in? I actually REALLY gotta go, like right now.”
“Yeah of course!” Law watched the strange redhead duck through the kitchen door and pick his way down the obstacle course hall to another door.
He pulled his eyes away from the muscled back and onto the little girl, who was… eating nail polish.
“You!” Law scolded her, and put her in a chair. He grabbed the few towels that weren’t burnt, and tied her to the aluminum frame. “Okay, eat cheez-its while I fix this.”
Law had got the new fuse screwed into the panel and the nail polish off Nami’s face by the time Kidd came back, dressed in clothes that didn’t seem like interview clothes to Law: heavy duck pants and steel-toed boots. He grabbed a duffel bag that was sitting on a box stack, shouldered it and then stood looking at Law.
“Uh,” Kidd was blushing again. It was kind of amazing to see this tough blacklung brat acting so unsure. “If I come back really late maybe I could bring something? To eat? And we could eat it here?”
“Yeah, that'd be good.” Law shrugged like he didn't mind either way.
“KFC?” Kidd suggested.
“Oh I don't like breaded stuff. Fries are good, though.”
“Chinese?”
“I'm trying not to eat MSG actually…”
Kidd tried to think. “So what do you eat?”
“Mostly sushi.”
“I didn't know there was any sushi places in this shit town,” Kidd admitted.
“At the college there's one. Uh, but whatever you bring is fine, don't worry about it!” Law reassured him.
“Okay. Well, see ya.” Kidd made his way outside, yelling at some hovering dogs to git!, then started swearing. “Aw fuck, Nami's FUCKING bike…”
“You trip on it?” Law poked his head outside.
“No,” Kidd was looking at an empty front walk. “Fuckin kids took off with it again. I'll just go punch their dad in the throat later, not a big deal.”
“Holy,” Law commented mildly.
He watched Kidd pull a frankenstein-ian motorcycle out of a side door and roar away on it. Then he looked around to see if anyone had caught him looking. He was just sending a good glare at the prying eyes across the street when he remembered that he was babysitting. He returned to the kitchen where Nami was sitting once again on top of the table, drawing circles in a nail polish puddle with one finger.
“Your brother is an entire entrée,” Law informed her.
She didn't reply, intent on her craft. But she objected when he tried to pick her up. “Nooo!”
“No?” he put her down.
She glared at him, a tiny girl of no more than four, ginger hair in little pigtails and her frilly blue bathing suit spotted with nail polish.
“I'm Law,” he sat down so he was at her level, and introduced himself. “Lawww.”
“Law...” She appraised him solemnly for another moment and then seemed to deem him acceptable. “I’m being a witch,” she confided in a whisper.
“A witch?”
“Yah.”
Law sat back in the chair with a laugh. “My girl! Let's talk!”
Law had the kitchen scrubbed to his own exacting standards in short order, having secured Nami firmly to a chair (with duct tape and towels this time).
She was starting to nod into her cheezits by the time he'd finished, and Law figured it was nap time. He went to review the rooms along the hallway, looking for a baby room. He couldn't figure out the logic of the place, though. There was a largeish bedroom, which seemed to be the source of the stale smoke smell, mostly taken up by a tacky king bed and Seinfeld DVDs. It clearly hadn't been used in forever. He closed that door. Then there was a smaller room that might've once been a child's room, decorated with glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and complex Lego structures piled in one corner. It was stacked floor to ceiling with file boxes and covered in dust too. Another small room seemed to be Kidd's hideout, though the bed was just a box spring covered in laundry and books. There was a guitar and practice amp, and a desk piled with half-dissected old laptops. Law resisted the urge to snoop, and closed the door.
He went back down to the other end of the hall, past the front door, where the narrow corridor opened into a small living room space. A couch and a single mattress were neatly made up into beds, in front of a large TV that seemed like the only new thing in the house.
“I want a Kidd nap.” Nami had somehow gotten out of the duct tape high chair and was at Law's side, rubbing her eyes.
“Okay? In the big bed?”
“You're silly,” she accused. She went to lie down on the couch, pulling a fuzzy blanket over herself.
Law went to sit next to her. He gestured down at the mattress on the floor, with its orange and blue comforter and many fuzzy cushions. “Is that your bed? Don't you wanna nap there?”
“No,” she explained patiently, eyes already closed.
“Right, obviously.”
He watched her shuffle and sigh her way to sleep.
“I could've had a sister,” he murmured, partly to her and partly to himself. “I mean, I do have a biological sister, but I didn't grow up with her. I think it would've been nice, though…”
Nami was already asleep when he looked over again. Easy! Law totally had this babysitting thing in hand. He pulled his stats assignment out of his bag, and got down to the real work.
Nami turned out to be a pretty chill baby, as well as being an utter terror. She mostly ignored Law, preferring to go about her little play tasks uninterrupted, with the TV playing in the background. “Being a witch,” she explained whenever Law asked what she was doing.
“Keep it up,” he encouraged her, turning back to his own work.
He quickly learned, though, to keep an ear out for silence, because she was probably blowing shit up. Law found her building a fire in the oven, then making what he was pretty sure was mustard gas in the toilet.
“How’d you do that??” He took the bleach from her and she threw a mild fit before toddling off to the next game.
By the time Kidd returned, Law was just sitting in a kitchen chair with his stats assignment disregarded in front of him, watching the four-year-old expertly jimmy the makeshift lock he'd put on the knife drawer.
“More twist on the lever,” an amused Law recommended.
“So this one's being a psychopath huh,” Kidd entered and threw his duffel bag on the table.
Law corrected him.“Um, she's a witch and a prodigy? She made several deadly potions with cleaning supplies today."
“Oh jesus now there's two of you.”
“One more and we got a coven.”
“Great. Nami, it's like 11, why ain't your ass in bed?” Kidd growled at his sister, who ignored him.
“She went down for a couple hours, but kept getting up when she heard a car go by. And I couldn't get any pajamas on her,” Law reported.
“Yeah she won't take the bathing suit off unless I bribe her. She's big into being a ‘mermaid’ this month, on top of being a witch.”
Nami had gotten the knife drawer open and was feeling around in it with one chubby hand.
Kidd scooped her up. “No knives.”
“A knife!!!”
Law shook his head and smiled. Child after his own heart. “What's she want a knife for?”
“She's been trying to slash my tires lately, so probably that. It's usually pretty funny to watch, but yeah, not at bedtime. Eh, Nami?”
“I WAN A KNIFE! A KNIFE A KNIFE A—”
Nami stopped and stared at the chocolate coin Kidd was holding up. She grabbed it and wiggled out of his arms. They followed her to the living room where she was stashing her prize under the couch.
“Holy, she's got a hoard,” Law gave a low whistle at the cache of foil coins and random shiny things.
“Yeah I think she's more dragon than mermaid,” Kidd commented.
Nami lay down in her floor bed, where she could see the glittering pile.
“I got food, if you wanna…?” Kidd nodded back toward the kitchen.
“Is she good here?”
“Yeah she pretty much puts herself to sleep, just leave WrestleMania on for her. She likes the noise.”
They went back to the kitchen, and Kidd turned on a thing Law had thought was a smashed toaster oven reconstructed with safety pins, but which turned out to be a radio. Kidd gestured to a bag on the table, and Law unpacked it while the redhead fiddled with the receiver. It mostly seemed to be picking up country music and static.
“Can almost get that alt rock station with this thing,” he muttered, “probably just needs another coat hanger.”
“You went and got sushi??” Law pulled out several little plastic containers.
Kidd’s back was to him but Law could see his neck and ears going red. He kept fiddling with the dials. “Yeah, whatever.”
“From all the way at the college?”
“Yeah. Whatever.”
“...I think that radio is using you as an antenna,” Law observed, changing the topic.
Kidd snorted and let go of the screwdriver-dial, and the radio went to mostly static. “Faboo. Maybe it wants a piercing too.”
His face had returned to a normal color under all that metal, and he joined Law at the table. Law offered him the dragon roll and took the sashimi plate.
The chopsticks were an obstacle.
“Do you stab it?” Kidd glared at the sushi and the two little sticks.
“No, look at my hand: hold one like a pencil, and the other one loosely—”
“I stab it.”
“Don’t stab it, hey, you’ll ruin the integrity of the roll shape!”
“Hm,” Kidd chewed his mangled piece. “Tastes like salad.”
“Here.” Law scooted over a chair. He took the chopsticks out of Kidd’s fist and rearranged them. Kidd’s hands were large and rough to the touch, and the scent of sweat and gas clung to his clothes. The sudden impression of body heat and machinery smacked Law right in the back of the brain.
“I’m gonna say this is finger food,” Kidd decided.
“Yeah,” Law agreed automatically.
“Yeah, fuck this. Want a beer?”
Law hated beer. “Yeah. I mean, whatever.”
Law sat and nursed the beer with determination, trying to pay attention to Kidd's animated take on government surveillance vans and Nicolas Cage. His brain was getting fuzzy really fast, though. He was such a fuckin lightweight.
“He’s not an actual human person, is all I’m saying. You seen his face tryna do face stuff?” Kidd argued, crunching his second beer can and tossing it in the bin across the room. "Nother beer? Hey, you’re not even done that one.”
“Tastes like bread,” Law noted distractedly.
“I guess. You don’t like Bud?”
“I liked the first movie,” Law hiccuped.
Kidd laughed like a fucking hooligan, and Law had to laugh too. Normally loud laughs grated on Law's ears, but he decided he liked this one. It wasn't mocking or cold; just big.
Kidd shook his head with a final chuckle and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Me too. Sooo uh, what you studying at the college?”
“General science right now, thinking I'll go into the pre-med stream,” Law answered right away. “Or maybe something more research, less clinical… uh. Or you know, like. Whatever.”
Kidd actually seemed interested. “Yeah that sounds awesome. I always wanted to go into engineering, but pure research would be cool… You um. Doing some math, there?” He looked over at Law's assignment, abandoned on the table.
“Stats. The bane of my existence. Don't stare at it too long, it'll put the bleed on your brain.”
“...you're stuck, huh?” Kidd glanced over again.
“No.” Law sniffed. “I'm considering it from many angles.”
“Okay, man.”
“Oh, like you know anything about sample sizes and shit.”
Kidd shrugged, but the line in his forehead deepened. He cracked another tallboy.
Law gripped his own beer can in the uncomfortable silence that followed, and then downed the rest all at once.
“Nother,” he wiped his mouth and Kidd raised an eyebrow but passed him a fresh one.
“Git it in ya.”
“Mhm.” Law took a deep swig and almost fucking barfed. “Sooo… you make that bike yourself huh?”
“...yeah,” Kidd's face lost the put-out look and split into a grin. “Or whatever, I just added some stuff and changed other stuff… actually, it's…”
That got another good long ramble out of the redhead, full of startling laughter and crass parallels with female body parts. Law wondered idly if Kidd was actually familiar with any female body parts, or whether this was just how people in Pit-town talked.
“Hm?” Law sat up straight, realizing that Kidd had asked him something. His brain was definitely all swimmy now.
“Or I can give you a lift back now. It's a long way to the Rez.”
“I'm not from the Rez, I live down the highway. I can just hitch my way back, it's not a big deal." Law looked at his phone—after midnight.
Kidd was giving Law a look, like he wanted to say something about that, but then grunted and downed his beer instead. “Here, for today,” he said, taking an envelope out of his pocket and pushing a few folded bills into Law's hand.
“Thanks.”
“If you're free tomorrow I'll be working again at noon. And like I said, you can stay here tonight if the trip out is—”
“Oh!” Law felt his face heating up again. “No, I gotta get home. My dad's gonna kill me as it is. I'll come back tomorrow, though, okay?”
“Okay! Or, whatever, good.”
“Yeah.” Law stood and started stuffing things back into his backpack. “Okay see ya tomorrow.”
Kidd gave him a flippant salute and cracked another beer.
Pulling on his sneakers at the door, Law felt a little tug at his pant leg.
“Law, you are going to go?” Nami worried.
“Yup, gotta go home.”
“Law, you won't be here if you go,” she started snuffling.
Law picked her up and put her back in her bed. “I'll come back tomorrow. Okay?”
“No.” She hid under the blanket and kept snuffling.
He hesitated. “I have to go.”
“She’ll get over it in a minute,” Kidd told him from the doorway, leaning backlit against the frame with crossed arms. “It's better not to draw it out.”
Law looked at the little lump among the cushions and shrugged. He stood to go.
The redhead chewed at his tongue piercing and watched him. “Okay, I don't wanna be weird about this, but like. It's the Pit. And you're... You know?”
Law wasn't getting it. “I'm...?”
“C'mon, you stick out. And it's really late, and it's just past check day, and… it'd really just be faster if I gave you a ride.”
Oh, fucking chivalry or whatever.
“So I'll put my hood up,” Law dismissed this.
“It’s the Pit, though,” Kidd said again.
“... See you tomorrow.” Law left without drawing it out any further.
Law got halfway through the village before someone pulled up next to him, apparently to offer him further unwanted courtesies.
“Looking for a place to stay?” the man offered.
“Just heading home,” Law deflected.
This didn't seem to be the answer the guy wanted, and he followed Law in his pickup at very close range, until they got to the village limits and the end of the street lights. Law gripped his phone in his pocket. He heard the truck door slam just as he went to detour off the road between two houses.
Law tried not to back away as the guy advanced. “I'll call the police.”
“I am the police,” the man pointed to the badge on his belt.
"Shit..."
"And you're trespassing."
Law held onto his phone, a harsh roaring steadily growing in his ears. The smart thing would be to play dumb and helpless so he wouldn't fucking get shot, and just hope someone came by… but the man went to grab him and he panicked just as the roar peaked. Law snapped the fist holding his phone into the man's temple, and it made a loud crunch. A couple more frantic strikes sent the pig down in a confused pile of limbs.
Well he'd fucking done it now. Maybe he could run before—
“Oohhh shit, haha,” someone commented.
Law glared over at Kidd, who was sitting there on his noisy rat bike, peering at the man on the ground.
“Hi?” Law crossed his arms.
Kidd scratched his neck. “Saw him drive past after you left, and figured… yeah. I was just gonna come and like, bam! Do a drive-by with a crowbar. But that Rocky shit was actually way cooler, haha. Is that a brass knuckles phone ring?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah…” Kidd considered the lump on the ground. “Kay, well. Can I drive you home now?”
“...” Law really, stubbornly wanted to refuse.
“Just so you can see how Marlene here rides,” Kidd patted the motorcycle. “Did I tell you I built her?”
Law's tension cracked and an incredulous laugh bubbled out. “Yeah. You told me. She's a beauty.” Kidd passed him the helmet and Law slid into place behind him.
“She’s a rubber-tit, chain-smoking old blacklung biddy, fuck yeah she's a beauty. You can ride her all day and night, she don't get tired.”
Law had been wondering how he'd get all the way home like this without popping a boner, but that mental image cleared it up.
“Uh,” Law gave the unconscious cop a guilty glance, “should we get this guy somewhere…?”
“Oh, I'll just call his wife to come get him, I guess,” Kidd snorted at the pathetic pile and took out his phone.
“You know him?”
“Everyone knows everyone here… hold on a sec. Hey, Mrs. Kyle? Yeah I just seen Kevin going off tryna fight that goose again.”
“Fuckin what??” Law snickered.
“Yeah, Cobb Road. Looked like he'd taken a good one on the head already. I dunno who taught that thing to make a fist. Yeah, anyway. Yeah, bye.” Kidd hung up, nodding to himself like that was it.
“No one's gonna believe that shit,” Law objected.
“Oh the goose? That's real, the thing's a monster. I think they should just shoot it but there's a pool on who'll defeat it in hand-to-hand combat.”
“...okay. Sure.”
“It's the Pit,” Kidd explained again.
Kidd tied a bandana onto his face as a windguard, and they pulled out of the village and onto the highway. It was fall but the air was warm and smelled like tar. Law held onto Kidd's waist and directed him by patting his arm and pointing. The smokestacks receded behind them, though the tar smell lingered on through the treeless landscape. Eventually Law signaled for them to stop.
Kidd pulled off the highway and stopped just under the lone streetlight at the turnoff. He looked around. “This is just a carpool lot. I might as well take you all the way home, right?”
“Nah, my Dad's already gonna be pissed that I'm out this late. If I ride up on a bike smelling like booze… yeah.” Law passed him the helmet and dismounted. “It's not far from here, I'm good now.”
Kidd was still processing the first part. “Aren't you in uni? You still have a curfew?”
Law shrugged. “He's strict. He just worries. Though, yeah, he's nowhere near as protective about my fuckin brothers so—”
At that exact moment Law's brain registered the whine of a familiar car, and he had to grip his bag to keep from bolting. He relaxed slightly when he saw it was just the Volvo.
“Hey Lawnboy,” Bellamy chuckled, leaning an elbow out the window.
“Hiii Law,” a gawky, sharp-eyed girl chirped from the passenger seat.
“Monet, my dream girl,” Law flirted mildly, leaning on the door frame. Monet giggled and Bellamy scowled.
“That your ~boyfriend~?” the blond troll mocked, jabbing a thumb at Kidd, who tensed and sneered.
“Yeah,” Law shot back.
There was a pause.
“Really???” Monet scrambled to get a good look at them both. Bellamy's face went slack with shock.
Kidd stuffed his head into the safety of his helmet.
“What're you doing?” Law questioned the helmeted Kidd.
“He's shy!” Monet squealed. “Ahhhh you guys are perfect!”
“Are you blushing?” Law tried to flip up the mirrored visor and Kidd held on stubbornly, shaking his head.
“Law, bring him to Hawk's place with us, I'll make youse guys’ drinks!! I got sourpuss and peach schnapps!”
“They're not coming to Hawk's,” Bellamy told her sullenly.
“Shut up Bellamy. Law, you guys coming?”
Law demurred. “Gotta work tomorrow, Monet-fique. Nother time.”
“Aw.”
“See you at home, Bellyache,” Law dismissed his pouting brother, who scowled.
“‘Babysitting’, huh. I'm telling Dad you're hoeing it up in the Pit,” Bellamy threatened.
Monet punched him in the shoulder. “Oh my god Bellamy no you're not. Later, Law! Byyye, strong silent boyfriend!”
Bellamy took his cue and screeched away.
Law turned back to Kidd, who was still hiding under his helmet. “Sorry. That was my brother. It just seemed like the best way to get him to leave.”
Kidd gave a slight shrug.
“So. See you tomorrow?” Law shouldered his bag.
Kidd nodded.
“Thanks for the ride. And for dinner and stuff…”
“Yeah it's whatever,” came Kidd's muffled voice.
“Oh yeah I mean, whatever.” Law started off down the road.
“Uh…! Thank you too, for… coming...” Kidd called after him a few steps later.
Law stopped and looked back awkwardly.
“...And for being chill about Nami's issues, and the house, and dealing with that creeping fucker… You don't have to come back after that crap. And if all this is gonna get you in trouble with your dad anyway,” Kidd offered in a nervous jumble, as Law wandered back over and stood there, feeling suddenly sad.
Law had had his share of sweet goodbye kisses under this streetlight, when he'd been a little younger and a little less worried about everything. He kinda really wanted another like that right now… But Kidd was holding onto the helmet on his head like a life preserver. And a kiss seemed like such a shallow, wrong-headed kind of assurance to offer against all ‘that crap.’
Law leaned in, and bonked his forehead lightly against the glossy helmet instead.
“Well, pick me up tomorrow, at the highway. So I don't gotta risk crossing the goose,” Law shrugged too, like it really was all just whatever.
He couldn't see Kidd's face but he could see his heaviness lift.
“You got it, Cap.”
The scruffy redhead leaned into his bike and the road, and became a fading engine roar in the dark. Law walked home slowly.

GOT7 Reaction: You being infertile (request)
A/N:Sorry this took so long. Some things happened and we all shifted the reactions around in order to have time to deal with what we needed to focus on. Sorry for any errors.
Mark:
He came home as deflated as ever. All he wanted to do was sleep and forget everything that was on his mind. He sluggishly moved towards the bedroom, his eyes purposely avoided the room that was meant to be a nursery. Gotta remember to change that back into the home office.” he thought
He walked into the bedroom making sure to be as quiet as possible to not disturb the sleeping y/n. Once done with his quick, half-assed evening routine, he climbed under the sheets.
“Mark?” Y/n’s voice peeped.
“Hi babe.”he whispered as he settled into his side of the bed. “I’m just coming home, go back to sleep.” he said with a quick kiss to her cheek, missing her lips in the dark.
“Are you mad at me?” she asked randomly.
“Mad? I’m not mad.”
“You haven’t said a word to me since the appointment.”
“Yes I have.”
“Cursing under your breathe while driving home and saying hi and bye to me isn’t “talking to me”, Mark.”
“Well you haven’t been talking either.”
“Because I’m sad! And I’m still sad.” she said in a whimper
“I’m sad too okay. So maybe, I don’t feel like talking, but that doesn’t mean I’m mad at you.”
“How am I supposed to know that when you completely shut me out.”
“Because what can I say to make anything better?” Y/n the few things that you have been saying are all things I was thinking also! I couldn’t open my mouth and agree and make you feel worse.Yes, I am sad that we can’t have a baby. Yes, I feel stupid that we tried so fucking hard for so long for nothing. Yes, this whole thing is unfair. Yes, I am heart broken that we can’t start a family of our own, but no, I’m not mad at you. I could never me mad at you over this. Y/n, just because you are the one that is infertile, doesn’t mean that this is your fault and I don’t ever want you to feel like you are at fault.”
Jb:
“Infertile” The word just rang in his ears. The doctor walked out of the office, giving him and y/n a moment to take it in. But he didn’t feel the need “to take it in”, it all had to be wrong, it just had to.There was no way y/n could be infertile, there just wasn’t. She was in amazing health, he was in amazing health, how could they not be able to have a baby?
Y/n sat quietly next to him in her chair as his mind continued to race. The more he thought about the whole thing the more upset he became. The whole situation was just so unfair.
“She couldn’t have been serious...” His voice broke through the deafening silence that filled the small room. “So she’s saying we can’t have kids? That we can’t have kids?” He turned to y/n, who only sat still and expressionless. “There are stupid and evil people out in the wold just popping kids out, but we can’t have kids even after how hard we’ve tried?!?”
“...I’m sorry.” Y/n said in a soft mumble.
“We’re good people, we’d be good parents. Fuck, we treat our cats better than some people treat their kids. Wh- why do we have to go through this? Making a baby should be the easiest part of all this!”
“I’m sorry.” Y/n repeated in a whimper.
It wasn’t until then that JB realized that Y/n had been crying. That was when his anger left him and he immediately moved to her. “Sorry? What are you sorry for?”
“B-because I -I can’t gi-give us a baby. It’s-s my fault!” she cried as she dug her face into her hands.
He gently pulled her into a hug.”It’s not your fault. Jagi, none of this is your fault.”
“Yes it is! I’m the reason we can’t have a baby! What kind of woman am i if i can’t even have a baby?”
“Jagi, look at me.” he said softly
“No!”
“Jagi...” Now was the moment to put his own feelings aside and try to be the positive voice to y/n. “Y/n, don’t feel like this is your fault. I’m sorry if i made you feel like that, but i wasn’t trying to make you feel bad... Jagi, just please look at me.”
Finally she did so. Her face was streaked with tears. The way she was looking up at him just broke his heart.
“So, yes, this sucks... this really, really- really sucks. And it’s okay to be sad. I’m sad too and mad, not mad at you, just mad at the situation, but... but just because it’s a sad situation, doesn’t means its a bad situation... Like- Like i said before, there are lots of people there having kids, but we got to remember that not everyone gets to keep their kids-”
“I know! That’s why it’s not fucking fair that I can’t have a baby!” she said with a wavering voice. “And- and-” she couldn’t even get herself to talk anymore because she started crying again.
“Y-yes, but what i’m trying to say is that we can be the ones to take a child in. We can still adopt! We have alot of love to give. IF we can;t have a child of our own, we can always care for and love a child, or children, whose parents couldn’t or wouldn’t care for them. Just because we can’t ever have our own kids, doesn’t mean we can’t ever have kids.”
Jinyoung:
He finally returned home after a long day of recording. It was pretty late in the night so he was rather surprised to find y/n awake just sitting at the kitchen table. More surprising was that he caught her drinking some beer.
“Jagi, what are you still doing up?” He asked as he walked toward her (noticing she was on her second bottle now), giving her a quick kiss then taking the empty seat next to her. “And hwy are you drinking? I thought in the pregnancy article you read a clean diet and full 8 hours of sleep helps with like fertility and stuff. You were making a big deal about it last week.” he tried to keep casual, despite the fact that he was a bit concerned about this. This whole late night drinking thing just wasn’t her style.
“There’s no point to all that stuff anymore... There never was a point.” she grumbled as she took another swig of her beer.
On top of her grumpy tone, he was noticing that her cheeks were shiny and her eyes were puffy and slightly red. “What are you talking about?” he asked nervously. This behavior wasn’t like y/n at all and his mind raced to figure out what could be making her behave this way.
“...I went to that doctor’s appointment today, you know, that one to see what exactly was the reason I haven’t gotten pregnant yet.” she mumbled in a slight slur. “Turns out all this diet crap and eliminating stress bullshit was just a waste of time, cuz i’m- I’m infertile.” she whimpered. Her eyes were beginning to get watery as her lip quivered.
“Infertile?”
A few tears slid down her cheeks. “Yup... That’s what the doctor said”
He could feel what little energy he had in his body drain out. He slouched back in his chair as if someone had just knocked the wind out of him. After the day he had, just to come home and find out this, he just didn’t want to believe it. “So we can’t have kids of our own?”
“That’s what infertile means!” she said harshly. “...Well, I can’t, you still can. Leave me and go find some whose body can actually function and you can have all the kids you want.”
“Y/n, don’t even go there!” he said a bit too sternly.
Y/n’s face fell expressionless just as she took another gulp of her beer.
He grabbed her hand, making her put the drink down. “y/n, just because we can’t have kids doesn’t mean its the end of the world.”
“To me it does!”
“No, it doesn’t, we still have options right? Of course we do!” he answered himself before she could bring herself down anymore. “We, uh, we can give invitro a try! At least once. If that doesn’t work, then we can try a surrogate, if you don’t want to do that, then we can adopt!” He hoped that the more options he threw at her, the less disappointment they would felt over the whole situation. “We talked about adoption before remember?” he waited for her response, but nothing. “Jagi, you remember that we talked about it like a few weeks ago?”
“Yeah” she frowned
He brought her into a hug, seeing how sad she still was. “We said that we’d adopt after having our first. Well, now we’ll just skip step one of our life plan and go straight to number two! You and I raising kids that we love, that’s the point of our plan, it doesn’t matter if they are biologically ours or not.”
Jackson:
Finally he was home from his week in China. It had been great being back in China, seeing his parents, being in his home, but he was even happier to be returning to y/n, especially after being so busy that they had no time to talk.
“Babe!” he called out as he walked through the door. “I’m finally home!”
Y/n emerged from the bedroom as beautiful as ever in an over-sized t-shirt and sweatpants. There was a tiny smile on her face as she ran up to him and tackled him with a hug.
He attacked her face with kisses, “I missed you so much!” *kiss* Why did we both have to be so busy *kiss* we barely talked *kiss*” He grabbed her, bringing her down with him as he flopped his tired body on the couch and settled her on top of him. “I wish you came with me like last time. My parents were disappointed they couldn’t see you. But I told my mom about us wanting a little one and she gave me a whole list of names that she would like our future mini us to have haha.” To his surprise he saw y/n frown a bit. “Don’t worry they are all only suggestions, she won’t hate you if you don’t like any of them.” he added.
However, her frown didn’t leave her face “...Jackson...”
“Hm?”
Y/n pulled herself up and sat up straight. He did the same quickly picking up on the serious vibe in the room.
“Remember how I was supposed to have a doctors appointment while you were gone?” she began.
“Yeah”
“...Well, the doctor gave me some news...”
“Good news? Like finally? Are you actually pregnant?” he asked with excitement.
All he got in return was a deeper frown growing on y/n’s face
“...So no luck this time either then?” he sighed
Y/n gave the tiniest of nobs, her eyes already getting watery. “...And there’s more”
“What is it?” he asked nervously.
“...I’m infertile.” she said with shame
“You’re what?”
“I-I ’m the reason we cant have a b-baby.” she sniffled. “The doctor let me know, that, you know, my body- It just won’t allow it.”
He couldn’t help but stare at y/n with such intensity. She just had to be messing with him somehow. What he wanted to believe was that she was putting up an act to trick him with bad news, and just give him the real news already. But the more he looked at her the more he could see how genuinely upset she was.
He could feel this ugly pain growing in his chest. It literally felt like his heart was being squeezed. All those daydreams he thought of he and y/n raising a girl or a boy that was just the perfect mix of them were all for nothing now. Every expectation and standard he had about being a father was all just a puff of smoke now. He fell back into the couch just feeling so empty.
He could feel her staring at him, waiting for his response. At a lost for words all her did was pull her close and let out a heavy breath. It took while until he could finally get himself to say “I’m sad now.” but even them his voice cracked over the lump forming in his throat.
“Me too” y/n said in a clear voice, but her cheeks streaked with tears. “I’m sorry”
He pulled her into a tighter hug. he felt mad at himself for making her feel bad. “I love you” were the only words that he could get out at the moment, but he knew that those were the only ones that mattered for now.
Youngjae:
“You’re infertile?” What y/n just told him didn’t completely make sense. Just a few days ago she had taken a few test, one actually coming back positive, but now after a few doctors appointments, she infertile.
“Yeah” she frowned.
Immediately his fingers began to fidget with the wedding ring on his left hand. Ever since their wedding, it had become a habit to fidget with his ring whenever he felt nervous or bored.Right now he caught himself doing it again and almost let out an ironic laugh. He never thought he would really get married, but that changed when he met y/n. Alot of things changed when she came into the picture.
After getting married, she pushed the idea of having kids. It wasn’t something he wanted at first, especially so soon into getting married, but the more she talked about it, the more excited he was in being a dad. When they officially started trying to get pregnant, he even caught himself daydreaming of what life would be like when they had a little one around. But now... now he could feel everything just crumble away at his feet.
“So, at least you know, you kinda got what you wanted, not having kids and stuff. At least we got married like i wanted to, not that”common law” crap you kept giving me” she said in an attempt to sound positive about the whole thing.
“What do you mean i got what i wanted? I-I want kids too now.”
“But I can’t have any!” now her voice sounded sad and frustrated.
“But we still have options right?” he asked in desperation. “Us having kids isn’t impossible! Like c’mon, look we are married now, remember how impossible it seemed to convince me on us getting married? Look at us now! We are going to have kids, I know we are!
Bambam:
“Dude what am i going to fucking do?!?”
“Bro just chill. Stop thinking about it.” Yugyeom said calmly.
‘How can i “chill”?!? Y/n might be pregnant! I can’t be a dad right now!”
“No shit, but panicking isn’t gonna make the whole thing any better.”
“Well what else-” Bambam was them cut off by his ringtone for y/n going off and Immediately he answered. ““Y/n, what’s the news?
“...C-can you come over?” Y/n’s voice was so soft over the phone. “We need to talk...”
-
She opened the door with a frown on her face and he expected the worse.
“You’re pregnant! You’re pregnant aren’t you?!?” He panicked as he ran into her place.
“Bambam”
“What are we going to do?!? We are too young to be parents! I’m way too busy to be a dad! We aren’t even married! We aren’t even-”
“Bambam i’m not pregnant.” she said blankly
He stopped on the stop. “you’re not?”
“No.” she said with a straight face.
“Thank goodness.”
There was a feeling of relief that he couldn’t describe.
“Good, this is good” he said as he let out a deep breath as if he just ran two miles
“...yeah” her reaction was nothing like his
“Aren’t you relieved y/n? “ he couldn’t help but ask, noticing her unpleasantness over the whole thing.
“Yes and no.”
He stayed quiet noticing that she had more she was going to say.”
“I’m relieved that we aren’t pregnant this time... but i also t found out i can’t get pregnant at all...” her expression became sour just getting the words out.
“What? How did you even find that out? You only went to see if you were pregnant, did you really do a whole check up every time you go or something?”
“...No... I haven’t been completely honest... There have been a few other times before I thought we had a little mistake, but each time it was nothing.” Here voice was just a soft mumble, just like on the phone earlier.
“This time i genuinely thought it was real so when we looked further into it- Well it just explains hwy i never got pregnant before.”
He didn’t really know how to take the news. He and y/n weren’t too serious, but they also weren’t complete strangers.
“Well... That means you can fuck without a condom!” he said trying to look on the bright side.
Quickly she threw him an angry look.
“You know what? I shouldn’t have told you. You can just leave now.” she said in a grumble.
“I’m sorry” he said just as fast. “I crossed the line...I don’t really know what to say... I just said something i thought that would make you laugh or something”
“Then just leave” she repeated
He wanted to do what she told him, but he couldn’t, seeing how upset she was and it felt wrong to just leave her this upset. He stayed still , not wanting to go.
“Bam, seriously leave. I just want to be alone right now.”
Still he didn’t listen. Instead he went up to her, putting a hand on her back, on for her to slap his hand away.
“Bambam, leave!”
“No”
“Why? So you can awkwardly “cheer me up” with depressing comments? I know you don’t want to be a dad, but didn’t you ever think that i would want to be a mom one day?!?” Here eyes were red and watery and she was in a sad rage. “Just because I didn’t want to be pregnant right now doesn’t mean I don’t ever want to be pregnant! But turns out i don’t even have the option, to like you care! So just leave!” she shouted
And now was the time to leave to avoid upsetting her even more. He walked to the door in defeat, but he turned to her just to give a her a few more words. “Y/n, Just because I don’t want to be a dad right now doesn’t mean i don’t ever want to be a dad either. I know we aren’t too close or too serious, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about you. I don’t like seeing you upset, so if you do want to talk about this, then i’m all ears.” he said before he walked out the door.
Yuguyeom:
It wasn’t supposed to be a night where many people would be out, but with his luck the mall was just packed with people. Being in the crowded area had him feeling paranoid. He He didn’t want to leave the safety of the clothing store and navigate through the sea of people to the next store y/n was dragging him to.He wanted to tell her it was probably time to go back home, but when he looked down at her, she looked like she was having so much fun being out and about.
He decided to stick with the date, being as unnoticeable as possible (which was hard to do considering that he was way taller than most people and that his brightly dyed hair kept peeking out of his beanie).
As he held himself back from being his loud goofy self in order to lay low, he distracted himself by taking notice of all the other mall visitors around him. They all seemed to be families. Young couples were all over, walking around and cooing at their babies and seeing them made his mind wander. He began to think of what it would be like if he and y/n were like one of the other young couple with a baby of their own here at the mall. As the cute thoughts began to fill his head, be had to admit that the idea of fatherhood didn’t seem that dad.
After about an hour of wandering from store to store, he and y/n finally went to the food court to eat. This is where they really had a moment to sit and talk without y/n getting distracted. “Y/n, have you ever thought about kids?” he asked
Y/n’s eyebrows hot up at his random topic ”...Kids? Why are you talking about kids all of a sudden?”
He shrugged “I don’t know There area lot of kids around, and it got me thinking about, you know, us having kids one day...”
That’s when y/n frowned a bit. “...Do you like really really want kids?”
Again he shrugged. “Not now obviously, maybe one day i don’t know. I wouldn’t mind us having kids in the future.” He babbled nervously as he was unprepared by his own topic. “I mean of you want kids too and all. I don’t know i just , I don’t know. All the kids here look really cute and it just got me thinking that’s all.”
“...Well... I only ask cuz... A few years ago i found something out.” she said quiet, almost as if she was embarrassed. “I found out that- that i can’t have kids of my own, i’m infertile. “she mumbled as she played with a piece of her food.
“Ooh...”
“Yeah, so i only wanted to make sure if it was something you really wanted, cuz i didn’t want to disappoint you or anything. I just want you to know so that, if kids are really your thing, and you want biological kids, well then... you can find some one who can give you some haha.” she laughed nervously at her awkward wording, trying to hide the dark message she was trying to give. “I mean i want kids, but the only option for me really is adaption, you know?” still she looked down at her food,
“... y/n...” he waited until she looked up at him. She barely did so, letting her hair fall over her eyes to hide herself a bit “We are still young ans all and i am still busy you know, with GOT7, so kids won’t be an option for know i guess.... But later, i would want to... i think... and whether kids would be our or not, as long as i have you to have a family with, that’s all i care about.”
