The biggest nightmare of studying Sanskrit for 4 years in school was learning those endless tables of Dhatu Roop and Shabd Roop.

Description: ME3 ERA--Ashley stumbles upon Regis after dealing with some inner turmoil of her own.
Pairings: Regis Shepard/Kaidan Alenko/Zaeed Massani
Note: been in a slump for a while...but I found myself a little rejuvenated after writing in Ashley's POV again.
Many things could be said about Regis Shepard. Butcher of Torfan. Savior of the Citadel. Destroyer of the Collectors.
To some, even a traitor to the Alliance, even after returning the SR-2 with a dossier full of Cerberus secrets. A condemner of the Council after his actions after the Battle of the Citadel. For every good title, Regis has another worse one lurking underneath.
He almost seems to carry both sides proudly.
To his crew, they never saw him as those titles after shaking off the first initial impressions, getting used to having Commander Shepard as their superior officer. Always surprised at his occasional openness around the crew, memorizing their names, their home planets, their hobbies... preferred shifts and foods, even going so far as to find out if they want to join him for biotic drills if they were attuned as such.
Out on the field, he turned into something else. An aura of command that made everyone want to stand to attention even if ordered to be at ease. A ruthlessness tinged by his glowing eyes and scars, a demon out in the field. Purple biotics a sign of his arrival, ripping through anyone and anything in their path if he deemed it a threat. Obey or die. Crafting alliances and leaving bodies in his path, Reapers and indoctrinated Cerebrus souls no match for him and his forward squads.
But sometimes, late at night, he could be seen standing in front of the memorial wall. Or he'll sit cross legged in front of it, sipping on tea with a book--an honest to God paper book.
Those nights were rare. Some considered them rumors, fake, people trying to stir up trouble on skeleton crew nights.
Ashley knew better. A heart hidden underneath, gleaming gold in the right light. He cared, oh, he cared so much.
Ashley found him one such night, coming up from cargo where she destroyed one of Vega's bags, her body aching under her exertion. Nightmares about X-57. About Balak surviving and still committing atrocities while those civilians burned from her choice.
"Hey, Skipper," she said, cracking her knuckles as she exited the elevator. "Out here on your own?" This was the first night Kaidan was back on board. Hell, some of the crew even picked up on Regis's happier attitude, finally whole again. She figured they would be... celebrating.
Adams will probably put that board up again if he hasn't already. Their resident L2 biotics cause so many sensor issues on a good day.
Even the whole common area was empty. Usually there's at least a few crewmembers about. A couple of marines standing guard in case something happens--what happened for Regis to become so damn paranoid?
Perhaps this is the time to ask.
He closed his book after dog-earing a page. "Yeah."
One word responses. Even from him, that wasn't good.
"Want a friend?"
He inclined his head, which she took as a yes.
She sat down next to him, crossing her legs, saying nothing at first, offering a silent companionship. Part of this felt like some nights on the SR-1, where someone will be up late and inevitably it seemed like someone else would join them. Regis's insomnia was sometimes at it worst during their first mission, and she would run into him often.
She often thought about one such conversation they had where Regis told her about his father's ring. About his recommendations for her.
About Eden Prime.
She and Kaidan sat vigil together many moments after Virmire. After Alchera when they could. Thinking about what they lost. Thinking about what could've been.
A few moments passed in silence.
Her gaze turned to the wall, scanning over the names. This wasn't her first time spending a few moments in front of it, lamenting the dead. Friends from the SR-1. Tanaka, who shared her love for literature, swapping recommendations as they found the time. Pakti, who gave her some tips on how to best mod shotguns. Laflamme, who loved sparring and a good cup of tea.
Newton, Bryant, Chi, Porter... the marines who died in Regis's attempt to save them both.
There were times when she saw her own name up there. She and Kaidan never talked about it. They never will. But, if Regis didn't see Virmire as a winning scenario, she may not have made it off that damn planet.
Is that something she's made peace with? That answer to herself changes all the time.
Some names she didn't fully recognize. They were emblazed with yellow, not the silver of the SR-1 crew. They may have been crewmembers that lost their lives when the Normandy flew under Cerberus's colors. Regis never talked much about his time under their command. It may have been his ship, but she knew he was never in charge.
Killing him every second he was on board.
Three of them belonged to those that lost their lives on his suicide mission. Those she heard about even less, only knowing them because EDI elaborated on them when she asked. A krogan grown to be a genetically perfect soldier, a new destiny. A geth that allied itself with them.
A turian that was almost a part of their crew on the hunt against Saren.
All EDI said regarding them and Regis were that they were never close. Disagreed with some more often than not, but still considered them key parts of the puzzle against the Collectors.
"I didn't take the time to learn much about the Cerberus crew," Regis said after a long sigh. "Sure, I knew their names. 'Ranks.' Designations. Skills. Talents. All the shit I'm obligated to know. But I didn't know them like I did with the SR-1. Couldn't tell you their dreams or their families or their favorite goddamn vid."
"What happened to them?" She asked first.
"There was a mission that needed all of our attention. Normally, I don't send the full crew out. Too risky. But EDI got a signal of something that seemed like another Reaper corpse, this time planet side. So, I called everyone in. All twelve of them. Took our shuttle down. Before we knew it, it was nothing. A fucking trap so the Collectors could board our ship."
That explains the marines.
"They wanted my crew specially, I'm sure, but all of us went down. When we came back, Moreau was the only one left after he and EDI took back the ship. They took the bodies too," Regis said, his voice flat. "Only found out exactly who we lost after Mordin escorted the crew back to the ship. If we didn't attack the base as soon as we did... I may have had no one to save."
Even thinking about hypotheticals. Something must really be bothering him. Normally he's the type to live and let live, never dwelling on what could've been.
"But you did. You succeeded," she said. "I can't imagine what you went through on that damn mission."
He clenched his jaw, his eyes narrowing. "I did what I could. It was a success in nearly every definition of the word."
Nearly.
She didn't point out his word choice, sensing a sore spot. "And it got you back to the Alliance. That's the real success."
"Was it? You and I both know the mission Kaidan and I went on before I was officially back."
The Alpha Relay. Hackett's request for a stealthy mission to save a key asset that turned into far more.
Sometimes she thinks about Kaidan and wonders how he decided he was going to be the one to condemn the lives in Bahak.
And she worries about the few she condemned on X-57.
No, that's not fair. None of them should have to make the hard choices like that, no matter how many lives could be at stake.
Regis and Kaidan both made that choice. But she knew Kaidan pressed that goddamn button.
He was quieter now. Even more in control of his perfect Alliance Golden Boy persona.
They all were marred with something now.
"You're still here," she said. "Don't tell me you want to undo Wren's work in keeping that off of both your records."
A sharp laugh escaped him. Bitter, dry, mocking. "No, I'd rather not incur the wrath of our dear Broker."
Just ask him, goddammit.
She turned to face him, and he raised an eyebrow, seemingly aware of what she was going to ask. "You can tell me to fuck off and I will, but what's really going on? You aren't yourself."
She racked her mind for something, anything that could've gotten him in such a dark mood. The date seemed insignificant, he was celebrating the arrival of Kaidan back on the ship, and nothing seemed wrong earlier when discussing their next move.
"You got me," he said, letting out a breath. "Normally, this day doesn't bother me. But today was the day my father died."
Shit. She had no idea.
Unsure if she should apologize or not, she opened her mouth, but he beat her to it. "Don't bother. It's in the past."
"Even so, it's clearly bothering you. Would Adrian want to--"
"No," he interrupted with a finality. "Not him, nor Vik. Vik didn't even know Atlas anyway, but they'll be busy with Adrian. I've already took them both off shift since we won't be able to visit Earth and his gravestone."
Another piece of the puzzle.
"I'm sorry," she said, leaning in closer to him. To her surprise, he didn't push her away, putting his head on her shoulder. She pulled him in. "A tradition?"
"Kinda."
Back to the one word answers.
"You could create a new one," she suggested, but carefully. Not wanting to butt in with advice if that wasn't what he wanted.
"Maybe. Last time we were still on Earth, so we all went. Me, Hannah, and Adrian. While we were prepping for the Reapers..." He trailed off. "Didn't enjoy seeing my headstone there, but it was good updating him on all the crazy shit in my life."
At her look, he continued. "We got it removed. Slipped through the fucking cracks after I came back, but then again..." He trailed off again, and her mind helpfully filled in the blanks.
He may have needed that headstone if his mission failed.
"I wanted to take Zaeed and Kaidan with me, but Zee was out gathering allies and Kaidan was with his spec ops squad. With them here with me, it got me thinking."
And there it is.
When Ashley first talked about her faith, Regis was receptive to it, but admitted he was an atheist and knew very little about it. He knew more about pagan traditions and the asari Athame doctrine. There was a certain... clear attention he gave her every time she brought it up, now knowing he was fine with it.
"I'm sure he's keeping an eye on you now," she offered.
"You think?"
"I know."
He shook his head. "You know, sometimes I've thought about those two fucking years. Did we meet? Or was there nothing? I don't remember anything beyond dying in space and waking up on that damn table," he said, likely for her benefit. She did wonder. Selfishly, she wanted to confirm her beliefs.
"But that doesn't mean there wasn't anything." He let out a huff that almost sounded like a laugh. "Hannah says he would be proud of me. I can almost believe it now from her."
"Almost?"
He closed his eyes. "I've never had a good relationship with her after I became old enough to stop considering space to be the coolest shit ever."
She did know that they weren't close, but beyond that, she wondered why. Hannah Shepard was always a great paragon within the Alliance, continuing to carry a legacy that Regis shattered with Torfan. Not that she considered that as such, but many did.
Alliance royalty and the fallen disciple.
But there were times she met up with Hannah in those two years that showed... regrets from Hannah. The way she would hope that they would never have a Torfan, but to be prepared for something that could become it.
And that they would have her support no matter what. Lurking underneath was guilt from something she did after Regis's notoriety.
Perhaps that's why Kaidan always seemed more subdued, almost judgemental around her.
"Well, then I'll say he's proud of you. Achieving so much and surrounding yourself with incredible people and loving two men that obviously feel the same way," she said, rubbing his shoulder.
He looked up at her, those red eyes softening. "Thanks. I hate to say it, but my mother's and I's relationship got better after my death."
She tried not to flinch at that, but probably failed by the way Regis sighed. "Sorry. I hate having this gap. Fucks up my perception."
"It's hard on all of us," she said, recovering. "I don't like thinking about it, but it happened. Say it all you want, because against all odds, we're stuck with you again."
"Come on, tell me how you really feel," he laughed. Something in him seemed to loosen even as he straightened back up. "What were you doing up?" He glanced at her hands. "Someone went a little hard on the bags."
She rubbed her knuckles. "Did you ever read the reports on the X-57 incident?"
"I did, yes." His tone betrayed nothing.
"That's why I'm up," she said, letting out a sigh. "Sometimes, I think about the choice I made. And wonder if I should've chose different. There are nights that all I see are those damn bodies... the sacrifice I made to ensure Balak would never walk free again."
"Are you asking what I would've done?" Regis asked.
"Yes. No." She let out a frustrated sound. "I don't know. This mission helped secure me both the N7 track and a Spectre recommendation, but all I can think about is what I lost in the process."
"Then that makes you a good person," Regis said. "Don't lose that. Hell, I immortalized my damn squad for a reason." He rubbed the back of his neck, his skull tattoo peeking up from the collar of his hoodie. "Don't forget what you lost, but don't let it consume you either."
He never said what he would've chose. Even knowing Regis and his own personal code--he always tries to save as many innocent lives as possible--she wasn't sure what choice he would've made.
Maybe she doesn't want to know. Could she have survived Torfan, the Alpha Relay, the hard choices on his damn suicide mission? Not to mention his decision to hold back the Alliance fleet back when Saren and Sovereign were their biggest threats.
Best not to dwell on it.
"I'll keep that in mind. I've had to make some hard choices before, but... I don't know. Maybe it's all the shit surrounding that mission that made it hit deeper. All the things I could've done instead."
Regis nodded, looking back at the wall. "Zee and I had a long talk after the suicide mission. I was... not struggling per se but I was dealing with those I had lost. I wasn't close with them. Maybe that contributed, maybe not. In the moment, their deaths felt unavoidable. Still do, most of the time."
He frowned. "But that mission still weighs on me. Maybe even more than Torfan did. Too many outcomes and potential changes. I don't like what ifs... but I also think about what could've been if I put Taylor as the second squad leader instead of Vakarian. Legion with the crew escort. Grunt as my backup against that fucking abomination.... but I didn't make those choices. Could've been worse for us and me. And that's why I don't fucking dwell on this shit. Because it always could've been far worse just as much as it could've been better."
She nodded, pulling her knees to her chest. "It seemed so easy in the moment to deal with Balak and his squad. They were going to kill millions..."
"I understand," Regis said, his voice quiet. More than you know, was left unsaid, but she heard it all the same.
Distantly, she heard the elevator doors open. She turned around, and Kaidan and Zaeed walked out. Kaidan neglected to put a shirt on but was in soft cotton joggers, and Zaeed was in a loose tanktop and shorts.
Surely they knew what was going on today, right?
"We're here to collect our stray Commander," Kaidan said, holding out a hand for Regis.
"Bastard thought he could slip away from us," Zaeed said, shaking his head. "Come on, baby. Let's go back to bed."
Regis didn't defend himself from Zaeed, only reaching up to clasp Kaidan's hand, letting him help him up. Zaeed held out a hand for her to use, and she took it with a smile, using him as leverage to stand up.
"He was good company, though," Ashley said, pulling the attention back to her. "But I'm with you. It's late and I'm going to regret being up tomorrow morning."
"Take some time," Kaidan said, waving her concerns off. "We're in an adjustment period right now."
"Says you," Regis said, kissing him on the cheek. "Sorry for not waking you both. I needed some time."
"I know," Zaeed said. "But still, we're here for a goddamn reason, you know. Kaid, go ahead and escort him back up. I'll make us something to drink."
Kaidan nodded, not protesting at all. Maybe there was a plan to this. Regis didn't protest either, following Kaidan into the elevator.
Once the doors, closed, he walked over to the kitchen and pulled out a few mugs and put some water in the kettle. "Did he tell you?" he asked, reaching for a few hot chocolate packets. She slightly judged him for making it with water, but the gesture was sweet, even grabbing one for her.
"Well, he told me about a lot of things, honestly," Ashley admitted. "But yes, today is the day his father died. I didn't know."
"Not many do," he replied. "Kaid and I were thinking about talking with EDI and replicating a new plaque for the wall."
"I think he would appreciate that. I know he spends... more time than he likes to admit with the wall."
Zaeed nodded, crossing his arms. "I'm still not sure it was a good choice, but it seems to give peace to a lot of people here."
"Does Regis..." she trailed off, trying to figure out how to word what she wants to say without coming off as being too nosy.
"I think I get what you want to ask. Does he suffer from what happened on Alchera?"
"I sometimes forget how damn perceptive you are."
He winked. "Comes with the job." He took a moment to pour the pre-portioned packets into each mug, checking on the kettle. "Almost done," he muttered. He cleared his throat. "To answer the question, yes and no. He visited the site of the crash and recovered as many tags and effects he could all on his own. I insisted that I should go with him, but he refused. He also won't open that damn shutter in the ceiling. Cerberus knew damn well what they were pulling with that shit."
Regis also closes the Observation ones every time he enters. Joker and EDI keep the pilot shutters closed. She's noticed.
They all have.
"Kaidan once told me that Regis's biggest fear was dying in space. I'm surprised he still is willing to be on a ship after that."
Zaeed pressed his lips together in a hard line. "Duty above all else."
"You clearly don't believe that."
"But Regis does and will as long as we have the fucking Reapers to deal with." He scoffed. "Self-sacrificing goddamn idiot. I love him and my heart aches every time he goes out into the field, every time he has to yell at every selfish bastard in this galaxy to step up and do the right thing. And he gets back up each day, to do it all over again. If we win this, he'll either be the most celebrated hero or the biggest goddamn villain."
Regis has been called similar things. A hero for what he did on the Citadel, but more vocal outrage over a human condemning the Council and the Ascension.
And now... Regis has garnered the support of the turians, gained an army in the krogan, dealt a damning political blow to the salarians, and has many other allies in his pocket from what he's done even while under Cerberus's lock and key.
"I hope he gets the rest he deserves."
The kettle sang. Zaeed poured the water into each mug, grabbing a spoon to stir each one up.
"You and me both, Ash." He held out a mug.
She took it. "But we both know that's not going to happen anytime soon."
"And that's why we're here so he's not doing it alone. Good night, Ash. Thanks for keeping him company."
She smiled from behind her mug. "And thanks for the drink."
"Anytime."

The 7 churches of Revelation
What can we learn from them? 3. Pergamum
To the Church in Pergamum- The compromised church
The city of Pergamum was built in land on a rocky hill and was about 25 miles inland. The city was filled with statues and tributes to the serpent-god Aesculapius a clear sign of Satan. The rod of Aesculapius was adopted by many healers and magicians as a symbol and today appears on NHS ambulances in England and Wales. The city also had an alter to Zeus the king of the so-called gods of Greece. Pergamum was also the centre of emperor worship. Evidences of Satan and his activities were all over the place. Not an easy place to be a Christian! Sin city!
Revelation 2:12 “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:
These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.
Satan’s throne may refer to the 200 foot high alter to Zeus specifically or in all the Satanic symbolism throughout the city. Jesus commends the church in Pergamum a highly satanic city for their refusal to deny Him and clinging to their faith even when Antipas the first Asian martyr was put to death in Satan’s hometown as it were. History records that Antipas was burned to death in a large bull-shaped copper vat for daring to cast out demons which were worshipped by the local people. In Pergamum the rulers enforced the Roman policy of confessing ‘Caesar is Lord’. Each citizen was required to offer a pinch of incense to Caesar and make a public declaration that ‘Caesar is Lord’ after which they were given a certificate showing they had done this. Anyone refusing to do this was immediately put to death. Quite a test for the Christians living then who saw this as a clear case of needing to declare instead ‘Jesus is Lord’ thus forfeiting their lives.
14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam [1], who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. 15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
Jesus now turns his attention to the various criticisms of the church in Pergamum. Some of the church members were mixing their Christianity with pagan practices including eating meat sacrificed to idols and actually taking part in immoralities of the pagan festivals. The teaching of Balaam and later the Nicolaitans encouraged God’s people to licentiousness by sexually intermingling with the pagan peoples during rituals thus mixing the true religion with an evil one. The church needed to discipline those people who were mixing their faith with outrageous pagan practices. They probably did this to keep their livelihoods. Christians would be thrown out of their various guilds and their employment if they did not participate in the worship of the local god of that particular guild. Jesus condemns these practices and calls the church to repentance warning them that He is coming soon to deal with such enemies.
17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To those who are victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give each of them a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
Whoever is able and willing to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying and is obedient to it will receive true food –the bread of Heaven- and be satisfied with it. The white stone may represent the inner person of Christ as revealed personally to the recipient. The stone (psephos) is like a ‘not guilty’ voting chip from God and is a token of a wonderful and everlasting personalised fellowship with the believer and with Jesus’ new name reflecting on the believer in some way perhaps giving them a new name too. The bestowing of a new name on God’s servants was prophesied by Isaiah [2]
Further commentary from Jacqueline Wilson (the contribution of the late David Hilsley is acknowledged)
Pergamum was the Capital city of Asia until the close of the first century. It was a city given over to the worship of many Greek idols. Two of the most prominent religious systems of the city were the worship of Bacchus (the god of revelry) and the worship of Asclepius (the god of healing)
Verse 13 twice refers to the city as the place where “Satan’s throne is” or where Satan dwells.” Satan has a kingdom; Babylon has from earliest times been considered the capital of this kingdom. Idolatry gained its start in Babylon through Nimrod and his mother inspired by Satan. As long as Babylon was a dominant world power, it made an excellent headquarters for Satan’s attack on mankind. However, when Babylon’s glory began to decline and it was left desolate Satan looked for another location. He selected Pergamum because of its strong idolatrous religions.
The Indulged Church A.D. 312 - 606
Satan learned from his attack on the church of Smyrna that persecution only caused the Church to flourish and continue in a perpetual state of revival. After Diocletian’s unsuccessful attack on the Church, Constantine succeeded him as emperor of Rome. Constantine’s ascendancy to the throne was not without controversy, and it had far-reaching effects on the Christian Church of the fourth, fifth, and sixth centuries.
Constantine, already attracted by Christianity, allegedly saw a vision of a fiery cross in the sky and heard a voice saying, “In this sign conquer”.
Paganism introduced into the Church
The influence of paganism on the Church increased over the years step by step. The Church began to shroud itself in “mystery” and ritualism that had a strong resemblance to Babylonian mysticism. The following is a partial list of unscriptural changes introduced during this age. Gradually these changes became more prominent than the original teachings of Christianity.
A.D. 300 - Prayers for the dead
A.D. 300 - Making sign of the cross
A.D. 375 - Worship of saints and angels
A.D. 394 - Mass first instituted
A.D. 431 - Worship of Mary began
A.D. 500 - Priests began dressing differently than laymen
A.D. 526 - Extreme unction (a sacrament in which a priest anoints and prays for the recovery and salvation of a critically ill or injured person.)
A.D. 593 - Doctrine of purgatory introduced
A.D. 600 - Worship services conducted in Latin
A.D. 600 - Prayers directed to Mary
From A.D. 312 on, the Church became more Roman and less Christian on its practices. The Roman Catholic Church of today is hard put to trace its ancestry beyond A.D. 312.
The name Pergamum literally means “marriage” or “elevation”. As the Church became married to the governmental authority and elevated to a place of acceptance, it declined in spiritual blessing and power.
Postmillennialism Introduced
As the Church became rich and powerful, it was suggested that the world was getting better and better, that Jesus’ kingdom was already ushered in, and that he would come at the end of the thousand year reign. This demanded reinterpretation of the status of Israel, which was accomplished by suggesting that Israel had been “cast off forever” and the promises of Israel now applied to the Church.
Whenever a local Church or denomination has maintained a strong emphasis on the second coming of Jesus, it has been an evangelistic, missionary-sending station. Where this doctrine has been neglected, the church has become cold, indifferent, and worldly.
The Nature of Jesus Revealed to Pergamum
To Pergamum he revealed the “sharp two-edged sword” which without question
refers to the Word of God. The cure for the problems of the local Church at Pergamum, of the Pergamum age of the Church, or of any church is the Word of God
Jesus used the Word of God to sanctify His Church (John 17:17)
to clean it (John 15:3)
to bring it joy (John 15:11)
to bring it peace (John 16:3)
Had the church of Pergamum and the Pergamum age heeded the Word of God, the evils of the Dark Ages could well have been avoided.
Jesus’ Commendation to Pergamum
The commendation of Jesus to Pergamum, in verse 13 falls into three basic categories.
1. I know your works, and where you dwell, even where Satan’s throne is.
2. You hold fast to my name. Criticism cannot be hurled against the Doctrine this Church or church age, for they were doctrinally pure. But they sinned by taking in the ceremonies of paganism.
3. ..and hast not denied my faith. Much of this has already been covered.
Condemnation
The condemnation of Jesus given to the church of Pergamum reveals that although their theological doctrine was correct, their practical doctrines were radically evil. These false doctrines fell into two main categories.
Revelation 2:14
The Doctrine of Balaam
The Doctrine of the Nicolaitans
Counsel
Repent or be judged by the Word of God
Jesus’ Challenge to the Church of Pergamum
It is directed to overcomers - two beautiful symbols loaded with meaning
“hidden manna” and “a white stone”
Hidden manna (Expanded in Conversation)
The White Stone (Expanded in Conversation)
Amen

tolerate it.
vii. if it's all in my head, tell me now.
— “not so strangely, the stranger knows where my hiding spots, my weak spots, and the spots in my body no one else knew about and i knew exactly where his were. he knew where to hit the walls to make it crumble, but he never tried to hitting it hard enough to break it. does he want me to break it for him? is he waiting for me to make a hole in the exact shape of him for him to actually try?”

“Madam Eli!” Kyle happily greets Eli as soon as she opens the door to her own home. The rest of them were in the dining table, and true to his word, Leon did kept Kyle out of the kitchen, making the first to notice that she was home.
Aside from the occasional updates over social media and yapping from Ynes, she has never heard from Kyle personally since her departure with them years ago. She thought that he’d have changed like her best friend did all those years, but oddly enough, he was still the same. He was probably taller in stature and looked more manly now than then but his aura exuded the same warmth as she recalls it.
Eli could not help but smile at him.
Leon saw it—the way she smiled at him so easily like it was a natural response to his bandmate. Ever since they were shoved inside of this house, he has never seen Eli smile that warmly at him. Eli never even looked at him unless she needed to. You could just tell that Eli couldn’t even stomach considering him even as a friend. Was she really that hurt?
“Eli!” Amir stood up from the dining table and followed Kyle, even opening his arms to offer a hug for Eli.
Leon can’t tell if it was jealousy or just guilt. Maybe it was a mix of both. There was a heavy feeling on his chest when Eli accepted the hug and even asked him how he was, apologizing for how things turned out for Margot, Leon’s now ex-girlfriend. Amir responded to her the way he used to four years ago, with so much care as if he was his own little sister too. After all, they knew each other for that long for him to see her in that kind of light. Amir tells her it’s not her apology to make and it wasn’t an apology he is to accept either way and that there’s nothing she should be guilty of.
Amir knew the words to comfort Eli and Leon couldn't help but hate himself for not knowing what to say whenever Eli thought of things like that. It’s not like Eli told him about her thoughts either way. They were always away at work and Eli has been missing their dinners on purpose to avoid him. Maybe even more now than before, after he intruded in her work station last night.
“Akin na ‘yan.”
Even with his urges to fight his friends for being better at him in making Eli feel comfortable, fighting them would only fuel that already burning fire of hatred Eli had for him. Instead, he tries to take Eli’s bags from her shoulder, along with her canister drawing tube.
“It’s okay, kaya ko naman,” Eli responds to him, surprisingly, softly. She did not sound angry at all. Especially after what happened this morning during the food tasting, he expected that Eli would be fuming at him for pulling that kind of shit for the sake of convincing other people into their game — but she was calm.
“I know, hindi ko naman sinabi na hindi mo kaya.”
Eli seemed taken back by his response that she froze before she could stop them from taking it from her. Truth to be told, her bag was heavy as fuck with her gadgets and everything else in them but she already got used to the weight of it after years of carrying it around for the nature of her job. “Magbihis ka na sa taas, I’ll call you kapag okay na ang dinner.”
Everyone else looks at them in curiosity, seeing how they are able to stand each other for longer than 5 seconds without someone attempting to break the other’s neck.
“I’ll cook with Kuya,” Eli replies, tapping his shoulder. “Wala naman akong balak lasunin kayo.”
Leon smiles at her, fondly, for that matter. “Okay,” he says, before playfully poking her cheek. “Saan ito ilalagay?”
She responds by also playfully glaring at him for poking her cheek. “Sa atelier.”
“Okay lang na pumasok ako doon?”
Elijah thinks of it for a good while, thinking back to her and Ynes’ conversation earlier. Her works were great and Leon might just be the luckiest person in the world to inspire most of them. She always painted him the best colors that she had even after setting her aside just like that.
There was a difference between letting everyone in her atelier and going inside the atelier. She wasn’t ready for him to see all the mess that came out from her heartbreaks and surges of emotions— but right now seemed the right time.
Eli nodded at him. “Isama mo sila Kuya Amir,” she smiled at him. Leon felt his heart skip a beat and then flutter. This is what it feels like when she feels at her best.
She smiled at him. For the first time since they got in here. It didn’t even feel real.
“Dalian mo na bago pa magbago ang isip ko,” she joked before pulling up her sleeves and walking over to Tobias, who is busy cutting up meat for their dinner.
“Good mood ka,” Tobi chuckled at her, before handing her some of the cut up meat to marinate.
“Maybe,” she replied curtly. “Or baka may ibang tao lang kaya hindi s’ya nakakainis.”
“Galing n’yo kanina ha,” Tobi laughed, leaning against the marble counters to look at Eli properly. “If I didn’t know any better, iisipin ko na nagkakamabutihan na kayo.”
“Well, I’m not Soren Yang’s daughter for nothing.”
“But really, Ellie,” Tobi sighed, suddenly changing his tone. “What’s holding you back? Bakit ayaw n’yo pang pagusapan ‘yung nangyari?”
“It’s either there really is nothing to it, or hindi pa kami mature enough to talk about it,” Elijah responded truthfully while still avoiding Tobi’s gaze. It was obvious that Tobi was trying to get a decent answer from her, but what she said really was all she knew. She didn’t know.
“You know, I tried naman to put up with your brother,” Eli continued. “But I don’t know him anymore. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells when we’re alone. I don’t know how to address things with him. Nasa point na ako minsan na naiisip ko kung magiging okay pa ba ang mga bagay sa kanya. Kasi minsan he’s nice and all, but there are times na parang hindi n’ya matiis ang presensya ko. He keeps saying shit that aggravates me and nakakafrustrate na s’ya, kuya. I can’t say na I haven’t tried. I’m just tired at this point.”
“Leon had a meltdown noong nagbreak sila ni Krizal,” Tobi started before going back to cutting up he meat. “Krizal kept on accusing him of cheating on her with you kahit na it was obvious na he already ditched you for her. Hindi ko alam kung ano pa ang gusto n’ya. But he wasn’t the same anymore after that. Hindi namin rin alam what triggered him to switch up like that, ‘yon ba ‘yung narealize n’ya na iniwan ka n’ya para sa taong hindi pala worth it o dahil iniwan s’ya ng taong ginawa n’ya ang lahat para lang na patunayan na mahal n’ya.
“Either way, Leon wasn’t the same anymore after that. He coped by dating people that were different from Krizal and the next one was different from the last one. The moment na ma-bring up ang pangalan mo, he would either detach and just wait for them to break up with him. Siguro nasanay nalang din kami na ganoon kaya natitiis na namin s’ya ngayon. Kaya if you’re thinking na ang hirap hirap n’yang intindihin ngayon dahil hindi na s’ya yung Leon na kilala mo noon, there’s nothing to worry about. Dumaan rin kami doon.
“I’m not saying na i-tolerate mo, ‘yon. We don’t tolerate him when he’s being an asshole. You’re doing a great job in ignoring him kapag nagtatanga-tangahan nanaman s’ya. I’m just saying na kung nahihirapan kang intindihin si Leon, valid ang feelings mo. Totoo ‘yon. Hindi na rin ganoon ka-open si Leon matapos n’yo mag-fall out. Ang hirap n’yang intindihin. Nagsasabi naman ‘yan dati sa amin ni Bia kapag may bumabagabag sa kan’ya. But ngayon hindi na.”
“He dated a literal psychotherapist,” Eli scoffed. “Wala ba s’yang natutunan about a thing or two sa pakikipagcommunicate?”
“Talent ni Mags ang intindihin ang hayop na ‘yan,” Tobi chuckled. “Maybe that’s why they worked out so well. Si Margot lang ang may pasensya na makipagusap sa kan’ya kapag magkakaganon s’ya. Margot was his only ex-girlfriend that was willing to listen to him to talk about kung gaano kahirap sa kan’ya ang iwan at noong pumayag ka lang na iwanan ka. Si tanga, kasalanan naman n’ya. Pero ayon, dahil nga si Mags lang ang babae na hindi ka brining up against kay Leon, siguro dahil doon kaya bakit ang sama sama ng loob n’ya. Si Mags lang ‘yung hindi takot na kuhanin mo si Leon sa kan’ya eh.”
“And I was the one who took him from her.”
“Hindi ikaw,” Tobi corrected. “Hindi naman ikaw ang may gusto. For all we know, inagaw ka lang rin kay Isaac. Isaac nga ano? Tama ba?” Elijah nodded. “Oh ‘di ba? Parehas lang kayong inipit dito. Lahat kayo, actually, inipit dito. It’s unfair, pero ano nga ba ang magagawa na’tin?
“But really, thank you.”
Elijah looked up at him from where she was massaging the meat into the sauce. “Bakit?”
“Niligtas mo ‘yung banda just as much as Margot did noong hindi mo tinakbuhan ‘yung deal. Ang dali kasing tumakbo nalang at taguan sila haanggang sa tigilan ka nila. But you stayed. Alam ko namang hindi ‘yon ang dahilan mo, pero salamat pa rin.”
Elijah could not help but feel tears in the corner of her eyes, remembering how much it hurt her to detach from the band. The thought of Tobias and possibly Amir as well, going through that same feeling hurt her more than she liked to admit. She would never want to wish that kind of heartache to anyone, especially to two of the most passionate musicians she’s ever met in her entire life—the very foundations of both the Loophole and the Midnight Covey.
“I’m always going to be Midnight Covey’s first fan,” she smiled at him, “Nothing is going to change that, Kuya.”
“Thank you,” he smiled at him.

cont. to elijah and bianca's conversation (click here)
“Babes, you look alright,” Ynes sighed, pulling Elijah away from the mirror of their room. They’ve been with each other since dawn, opting to drive to Batangas before Leon so they’d have more time to prepare for the party in the venue.
“Hindi ba ako mukhang underdressed? Papa has a lot of business partners coming, I don’t wanna look unkempt—”
“Gusto mo ba mag-gown na? Maganda na nga sabi,” Jacynthe frustratingly helps Ynes with pulling Elijah away from the full-length mirror to sit her down for make-up. Honestly, though it would’ve been better to just hire a make-up artist, they just decided to let Jas have the pleasure to do the job. After all, Jas has been doing this for them long before there was something like this happening in their lives. Plus, Eli’s anxiety would’ve put her off by just the mere fact that she’ll have someone stare at her face for hours on end just to make her ‘prettier’.
“Okay, run down muna uli ng mga hindi n’yo pwedeng gawin,” Al announced, her iPad in her hand, seemingly having a list on her notes app just so they would be able to go through every single one of them.
Everyone but Jas, who is now busy matching lipstick shades for Eli, looked at Al attentively.
“Number one, bawal awayin si Leon,” Al sighed.
“Sayang,” Bella jokes, but still ended up getting a playful smack on the arm from Ynes.
“Please, in love dapat sila sa isa’t isa. Which brings us to number two, hindi p’wede i-mention si Isaac or si Margot Lee. Kung magawa n’yo man, isusungalngal ko ‘to sa ngalangala n’yo,” Al raises her pencil up to show exactly what she was talking about. “Please, don’t mention anything. Lagot tayo. Maraming businessmen, socialites and other elite families ang andito and we’re doomed if malaman nila na arranged ang lahat ng ‘to and the fairytale bullshit na finabricate nila ay hindi totoo. Also, my parents are going to be there. I think Jas’ parents are too, ‘yung kay Ynes sure na and’yan, and yung kay Bella probably won’t be there kasi her parents are in SoKor. So, unless gusto n’yong maging shitshow rin ito for the rest of us, ‘wag nalang natin imention.”
“Noted, Ma’am!” Jas chuckles.
It’s not hard to admit that all of them can get a little neurotic when it comes to things that mattered to them. This was especially important to Eli, considering that she will be the one presented later. Though she’s never felt more objectified to be offered to another family as a gift to prove their loyalty to building their collaborated project, it still felt like her responsibility to put up a good front for her family. After all, if the image suffers, everyone does and god forbid she wants to Cielo and Bianca to experience half the shit they are going through right now.
“Number three, last na to. Please don’t get shit-faced drunk,” Ally sighed. “God, ‘yung ginawa n’yo noong isang gabi—big no. Utang na loob. If you can help it, walang lalapit sa bar. Jacynthe, heavy on you, if you do end up hooking up with someone tonight, make sure you’re not going to end up pregnant and make sure you reach out to me to figure out an NDA if you end up boning with a filthy rich guy. Kasi those people with fuck you up and it’s not gonna end well. Bawasan na natin ng sakit ng ulo si Tita, okay? But that applies to everyone. Malaki na kayo. Do it safe. Eli, if you’ll be the one to do it with someone na hindi si Leon, which is unlikely based sa personality mo, please wag kang magpapahuli kasi lagot ka.”
“Noted po,” Elijah sighed, slumping back on her chair, letting her mind wander off to what happened last night.
“Isang kanta lang, Madam,” Kyle whined, already begging with the acoustic guitar in hand, for her to play just one song for tomorrow.
Truth was, Elijah wasn’t even sure if she could still play. The music room was there for a few reasons, some of them being she never thought she’d be the one living in there and she’s always wanted her kids to learn music one day. Because if her parents were against the thought of her pursuing music, she would never do that to her own children if she ended up having any.
But it was never there because she planned to play in a band ever again.
“Anong kanta?”
“Payag ka na?” Amir’s head whipped towards her direction from where he was sitting.
“Ano munang kanta?”
“Mahika,” Kyle cheekily grins in front of her. Mahika was one of the few songs that Elijah sang when she was still in the Loophole. It was probably the last song that had its clout in their underground band scene before Elijah left the band for good. Her singing in it and the band gaining a good amount of popularity from it was probably what ticked Soren Yang to force Elijah out of it because he was afraid she’ll pursue it instead of actually doing something that would be beneficial to the company.
Mahika was a song that she wrote on her own. It getting its own kind of short glory really makes her heart swell in happiness but that short glory, that miniscule chance that the band will be successful one day, was the very reason her happiness was taken away from her. It was a bittersweet relationship between her and that song. Most times she wished she never showed it to Leon so that it was never proposed to be played and recorded at all. She still would’ve been in the band.
“Okay lang?”
“Yeah, sure. Basta kapag pumutok ang ugat sa batok ng tatay ko, kasalanan n’yo.”
“Okay na, darling,” Jas smiled, poking a finger on her cheek to get her attention.
She was never one to toot her own horn but Jas’ work was beautiful. She genuinely felt beautiful enough to face the hundreds of people that their parents invited for the reason that the wedding would be much more intimate and strictly family and close friends-only in the guest list.
“Lamig pa rin ng kamay mo,” Leon chuckled as he held Eli’s hand in between both of his while they waited for the organizer’s call that the event was going to start and they were needed in the venue.. It’s only been two days since Leon started initiating things like holding hands and occasionally having his hand around her waist or shoulders. Normally Eli would’ve freaked out already, but for the sake of putting on a show, she’s already gotten used to it. Though she would still deny that there was some sort of comfort in holding his hand.
After all, most of their ill-history and personal differences aside, the both of them are on the losing side here. There was comfort in the fact whether or not they see each other eye to eye, they are in each other’s corner.
“Kinakabahan ka?” He asked gently, squeezing her hand to get her attention after noticing she was spaced out. He knew she was, but if there was something he learned from Margot, anticipation is where you are the most anxious and talking can distract you from it. Leon did not know if assurance would be the best thing that Eli would want right now, but it’s what he gave when he saw her respond with a nod. “It’s okay— Well, hindi s’ya okay. But I’m here. Alam kong lagi tayong magkaaway and magkasama tayo buong araw ngayon, kaya if you need something, just tell me. I’ll do my best to get it for you, okay?”
Eli didn’t know how to feel about that. Frankly, after everything that has been through, she didn’t know if she was strong enough to trust Leon like that again.
Why is he doing this?
How long is he going to be like this?
Those questions kept on bothering her every time he did something other than picking a fight.
She didn’t want to get used to something that was gonna go away in a few days or months or maybe even years. The thought of her being abandoned once again haunted her.
And if Leon, even after literally spending his entire life with her, once was able to quickly leave her for someone he wanted to pursue. He can do it again now that he already did it once. What weight does he hold on him now?
Probably not a lot.
Leon would leave the second he gets the chance.
Elijah would too… maybe.
“What’s on your mind?” Leon asks, pulling Elijah close to him and making her look at him by lifting her chin up.
Leon was astounded by how Elijah’s face stood so close to his. The distance gave him enough time to see how every curve, every beauty mark, the way her tired looking eyes fluttered, and even the way her lips were in a slight pout. It was all so beautiful to him, but also so new.
Maybe it was the light in the room. Or the nerves. Or something else. But he’s never seen Elijah look so beautiful before.
She looked divine.
He was sure she was Aphrodite in disguise at that very moment.
“I’m not sure,” she lies but the same fear from yesterday was bubbling in the pit of her stomach once again.
Leon went to move closer to the alluring sight in front of him…
and closer…
and closer…
As if the fear scurried away when he was just an inch away from her face, Elijah did not dare to step back and instead, and out of impulse moves closer to close the gap between their lips.
Leon did not hold back, hand moving from holding her hand to her waist to pull her impossibly closer while the other caresses her face ever so gently. While both of hers finds solace on the sides of both of his arms, feeling the soft fabric of his dress shirt, clinging on it as they relish on the wet feeling of their lips moving on each other like it has always supposed to belong to each other.
She could feel her thumping heart finally slowing down, letting her defenses down as she calms from the anxiety over everything that's about to happen.
Finally at rest, or so they thought.
“Ate?”
Both of them abruptly pull away from the kiss and turn to see Liz with an appalled expression on her face and Bianca in a panicked state trying to pull Liz away from the door.
“Shit.”
“Liz, let me explain,” Eli does not waste a moment, following Liz and Bianca towards the hall. “Annaliz!”
“Explain what, Ate? Na you’re already making out with someone in less than two weeks since your break up with kuya?” Liz spat with so much venom coating her words that Eli felt it taunting her for acting so recklessly. She then turns to Bianca, “Ikaw? Ano? Kaya ba isinama mo ako dito? Para ano? Ipagmalaki na nanalo na uli ang Kuya mo?”
“Liz…” Bianca looked nothing less than disappointed with how Liz was reacting to the situation. “How can you say that?”
“Anong how can you say that? I expected so much more sa inyo! I thought you hated this guy, Ate Ellie, tell me why the hell were you making out with him just now?”
Eli did not know what to say. This was all her fault. She shouldn't have kissed Leon. She shouldn’t have allowed her impulse to take over her.
God ang stupid talaga.
“Liz, calm down–”
“You know what,” she snatches her hand away from Bianca. “I can’t stay here. Ang sasama ng mga ugali n’yo. You and all your families are cruel and evil. It’s even worse to think now that I thought I was falling in love with you, Bianca.”
She then walks away before any of them could say something.
Elijah couldn’t think of anything else to do but fall to her knees and apologize to Bianca, who looked so distraught over what happened.
“Bia, I’m so sorry,” she sobbed, holding both of her hands as she stayed on her knees, begging for the younger girl’s forgiveness for ruining her just budding relationship with her ex’s little sister.
Both Bianca and Leon were trying to get her off her knees but Elijah remained unconsolable as she let out painful sobs.
“It’s not your fault, ate,” Bianca mumbles through her own tears as she helps her brother to get Elijah up
“I… I didn’t mean for it to end up that way— Gosh, ang tanga tanga. I’m so sorry.”
“Bia, look for Kuya Santi or si Ate Ynes,” Leon orders her, handing her a handkerchief to wipe her face first before dashing out of the building and into the event grounds.
“I’m sorry I kissed you,” Elijah whimpered against his shoulder as they stood there in the empty hall of the hotel they managed to rent for the entire event. “Nasira ko ‘yung relasyon ni Bia—”
“Hey, it was my fault too,” Leon sighs, rubbing soothing circles on her back. The entire situation was taunting him as well for causing so much distress on Elijah once again because he was just as reckless with his decisions. “I’m sorry you have to go through this, Eli.”
It was the first time he called her by that name since they got stuck together and it just slipped out of his mouth. As much as he knew it would be hard for Elijah to believe it, this was hurting him just as much. He was just as careless and the price to pay was his own little sister’s happiness for the actions that he did.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been the nicest person in the world,” he mumbles, choking on some words as he tries to hold back tears as well. He was never one to cry in front of anyone. But this is Eli. His Eli. Eli will never judge her for having emotions. For being hurt especially.
“I’m so sorry, I left you, Eli.”
“Are you really?” She asked, looking up to him.
It didn’t sound like she was mocking him. It sounded more like she was hopeful that it was true. Like she was hoping that the fall out maimed him too unlike what she had always thought.
“I am,” he replied softly as he stared at her glossed over eyes, breaking his own heart in the process. No one has looked this beautiful this close while crying. But he had to hold himself back from doing just what he did earlier. Instead he rests his forehead on hers and mumbles yet another apology.
God. If he is lying, please tell me now. Tell me I’m not wrong for believing him right now. Elijah’s thoughts ran in circles over and over until she might just pass out, but this wasn’t the right time. She had to fight against her ruminating thoughts, even just for tonight.
For the show.

LIGHT OF LIFE 399
John 1:4
UNDERSTANDING PROPHETIC MANDATES 33: CHANNEL FOR PROPHECY 6
Amo 3:7 CERTAINLY, THE ALMIGHTY LORD DOESN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS HE FIRST REVEALS HIS SECRET TO HIS SERVANTS THE PROPHETS. GW
It is important to establish that the SOURCE of TRUE Prophecy, is DIVINE.
Thank God that the English dictionary acknowledges this. So, what was Balaam, the soothsayer’s source?
Num 24:1 Now when Balaam saw that it was the Lord's pleasure to give his blessing to Israel, HE DID NOT, AS AT OTHER TIMES, MAKE USE OF SECRET ARTS, but turning his face to the waste land, BBE
As shown in the last lesson, Balaam was satan’s tool, commonly consulting with demons to practice his art.
God probably chose him to make some Divine Prophetic statements concerning Israel, and in the presence of the whole world.
Before then, he had nothing Divine at all.
Num 24:2 and saw the tribes of Israel camped below. JUST THEN, GOD'S SPIRIT TOOK CONTROL OF HIM, CEV
As we all know, all powers belong to God, but satan uses what he is permitted to use, negatively.
From time to time however, God showcases His supremacy by using whomsoever He will anyhow.
You see, God initially told Balaam not to honour Balak, by going to curse His people.
Num 22:12 But God said to Balaam, “YOU MUST NOT GO WITH THEM; YOU MUST NOT CURSE THE PEOPLE, for they are blessed.” NET
But when God saw Balaam’s insistence, based on greed, God decided to impose on his prospect by showing His own Supremacy.
So, the source of Balaam words over Israel, was clearly God!
It was Balaam’s Prophetic affirmation that made me know that JESUS was amongst His people then.
Num 23:21 HE HAS NOT SEEN INIQUITY IN JACOB, NEITHER HAS HE SEEN PERVERSENESS IN ISRAEL. Jehovah his God is with him, and THE SHOUT OF A KING AMONG THEM. MKJV
God has not seen iniquity in Jacob because the “Shout of a King” (Jesus) Advocates for them as He travels with them.
1Co 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For THEY DRANK FROM THE SPIRITUAL ROCK THAT FOLLOWED THEM, AND THE ROCK WAS CHRIST. ESV
Therefore beloved, God can speak or have a Divine Prophetic Mandate carried out by even a madman.
All men and angels, standing or fallen, converted, pagan or apostate, belong to God and He can do whatever He wants with any of them at any time.
Jer 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way humans act is not under their control. Humans do not direct their steps as they walk. GW
It didn’t say: “the way of Christians…”, meaning not only Christians are used and controlled by God.
All Humans are directed and intrinsically used by Him, whenever He is ready to use them.
Psa 135:6 HE DOES WHAT HE PLEASES, WITH UNLIMITED POWER AND AUTHORITY, extending his greatness THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE! TPT
The big question now will be: why would a Holy God, whose eyes are too pure to behold uncleanness, decide to use random unholy vessels to convey and/or execute such Divine Mandates?
Hab 2:12-14 A CURSE ON HIM WHO IS BUILDING A PLACE WITH BLOOD, and basing a town on evil-doing! See, is it not the pleasure of the Lord of armies that the peoples are working for the fire and using themselves up for nothing? FOR THE EARTH WILL BE FULL OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GLORY OF THE LORD AS THE SEA IS COVERED BY THE WATERS. BBE
Yes! The Prophecies are Divine and from a Holy God, but they are [mostly] records of Retributions on Men over their dastardly acts of defiance, wickedness and rebellions.
Prophecies are declared Supremacy of God’s Glory over that of degenerate Men.
Hab 2:16 YOU ARE FILLED WITH SHAME INSTEAD OF GLORY; drink also, and be seen as one uncircumcised! THE CUP OF JEHOVAH'S RIGHT HAND SHALL TURN ON YOU, AND DISGRACE SHALL BE YOUR GLORY. GNB
Even when they are Prophecies of blessings, they are mostly for men, laden with sins still.
2Ki 7:1 ELISHA ANSWERED, "I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR YOU. THE LORD PROMISES THAT TOMORROW HERE IN SAMARIA, you will be able to buy a large sack of flour or two large sacks of barley for almost nothing." CEV
So, anyone can deliver a Divine Prophetic Mandate.
If you have information for either criminals or free men, you can deliver direct or send one of them.
Do you now know why Jesus said:
Joh 6:49 Your ancestors ate THE MANNA GOD GAVE THEM in the desert, BUT IT DIDN'T KEEP THEM FROM DYING. ERV
May Divine Prophetic Mandates over our lives, not be a waste of God’s time, IN JESUS NAME.
Come back on Friday, for more of this insightful and enlightening Sub-Subtopic.
Keep Shinning!
Brother Prince

Avvar History Reconstruction, part 7
Finally, I’ve reached the last part of this project! “Avvar History Reconstruction” is my attempt to piece together what’s known about the Avvar history, starting from their journey south-east (still as one with the Alamarri) through the birth of their tribe, the toll of Tevene occupation, the wars with neighbouring nations, all the way into the Dragon Age.
It took 10 000 words, 29 pages, and 13 maps to cover over 3000 years of history, and it just barely scratches the surface. There are many blank spots that might never be filled, as the series seems to be moving away from the Frostback Mountains. But that just means it’s a free space for headcanons.
<<Read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6>>
Part 7: Current state
Tumblr media
The Avvar people still reside in the remote parts of the Frostback Mountains. Their population numbers are unknown but they are able to endure in the harsh environment with relative success.
They are not recognized as sovereign state by any of the neighbouring nations, and the situation is unlikely to change in the years to come. The Avvar don’t have a central government, each hold is led by a different thane, and they don’t seem inclined to significantly alter their way of living and imitate Ferelden by uniting the tribes into a new nation. Occasionally, they form alliances with nearby holds, but there has been no large-scale movement since the rise of warlord Balak during the Steel Age. Gurd Harofsen, the leader of the Jaws of Hakkon, may have had a potential to follow in Balak’s footsteps, but his warmongering tendencies were thwarted before he could threaten the Lowlands. Even if Gurd did succeed, I find it highly improbable that attacking the Lowlanders with Hakkon Wintersbreath on the leash would benefit the Avvar as a whole, much less that it could grant them sovereignty. It’d certainly result in a great chaos - comparable to a Blight, from what we’re told in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC - that would lead to resistance forming in the neighbouring nations. Ferelden, still weakened from the real Blight, would suffer heavy losses, but the chance that the Jaws of Hakkon could vanquish the Lowlands is extremely infinitesimal. All in all, I see no signs in canon sources of the Avvar becoming a sovereign nation in the near future, either through peaceable unification or through conquest.
It appears that the Avvar tribes are concentrated in the southern part of the Frostback Mountains. The northern and central regions were probably depopulated as a result of the Tevinter occupation and the conflicts between Orlais and Ferelden, forcing the Avvar further up and south into the Frostbacks. The eastern frontiers may overlap with the lands inhabited by the Chasind people. The Avvar tribes who live near the Korcari Wilds possibly share some characteristics with the Chasind.

Figure 13. Avvar settlements
Red - extinct hold
Purple - possible location of a hold
Blue - known hold
Let’s review the Avvar settlements one by one.
Stone Bear Hold is the only Avvar hold whose current location and status are fully known, as we can visit it in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC and observe the Avvar lifestyle from up close. It’s situated in the far south of the Frostback Mountains. According to Arvid Rolfsen, a few generations ago, when he was very young, the hold was located further north, but it moved into the Frostback Basin due to unspecified reasons and remained in the same place for a couple of decades.[1] The Avvar holds are said to be temporary, but it’s unknown what’s the average time between relocations. It might range from several generations to a few seasons, depending on the situation in the hold and the access to food sources, though I believe that it’s usually on the longer end. The Stone-Bear Hold inhabitants appear to obtain their nourishment in large part from hunting and foraging, but it’s also evidenced that they regularly engage in animal husbandry, and possibly in growing crops.
The Journal of Gurd Harofsen contains the following description of Stone-Bear Hold:
“The tales tell of this area, but the Stone-Bears, a hold of fishermen and chicken farmers, have lived here for generations and seen no sign.”[2]
Codex entry: On Avvar Cuisine can be obtained by interacting with a swine head inside a merchant’s shop in Stone-Bear Hold, and there’s also a number of pig carcasses and sausages placed around the room, suggesting that the inhabitants of the hold raise pigs for meat consumption. The food items found in the hold also include cheese, indicating that the Stone-Bear folks keep dairy animals, and this is confirmed in conversations with Svarah Sun-Hair, as she references goats multiple times.
Svarah: “Pens are for goats and chickens, not hold-kin.” [...] “We have no need of your lowlands, not when our goats are fat and our fish are plenty.”
(Fun fact: Avvar swear words commonly reference domesticated animals, examples: “goat-lovers” used by both Svarah and Hask;  “goat-kissing” and “chicken-craps” used by Svarah.)
The evidence of arable farming among the Avvar is less apparent in-game. Some of the food items found in Stone-Bear Hold resemble bread, pies, and potatoes, suggesting that they do grow crops in larger quantities, but I do not recall any confirmation of that in dialogues or codex entries. The farming practices are, however, referenced in the official tabletop guide, though this source has debatable canonicity, so… take this with a grain of salt.
“In late spring and through the summer, the air becomes warm and humid. The farmers among the Avvars take swift advantage of the brief planting season by moving down from their stone-walled holds and into the foothills to grow crops, which they tend in nomadic fashion as they herd their flocks of goats and keep wary of lowlanders.”[3]
All in all, I would say that the Avvar people do not relocate often, certainly not as often as the fully nomadic Dalish. Stone-Bear Hold shows signs of permanence, or at least semi-permanence. Perhaps in the past, the Avvar had practiced a nomadic lifestyle of typical hunter-gatherers, but they’re transitioning into another mode of living.
Now let’s take a look at the holds we haven’t visited.
Red-Lion Hold is the hold that gave birth to the new iteration of the Jaws of Hakkon. It was destroyed during the Blight and its inhabitants had to flee. Gurd Harofsen described in his journal that “The darkspawn struck Red-Lion Hold. I heard the news in a tavern in Redcliffe.”[4] so I assume that Red-Lion Hold was located south of Lake Calenhad and was attacked by the darkspawn horde before Redcliffe, though its exact location is a mystery. Therefore, its placement on the map is just one of my ideas. When the news of Red-Lion’s destruction reached Gurd, he left the mercenary group he was part of and returned to his homeland. He gathered the survivors and set a new course for them, and they became the Jaws of Hakkon reborn. The newly formed faction was unlike the other Avvar tribes. As Gurd declared in his journal “We will build no home, for homes can die.”[5] And indeed, they were continuously on the move, searching for Hakkon to bring him back and set him on the Lowlanders, until they reached the Frostback Basin. This wandering behaviour is seen as odd among the people of Stone-Bear Hold, further suggesting that the typical Avvar settlement is somewhat permanent. As I discussed previously, I doubt the Jaws of Hakkon’s plan would in any way improve the situation of the Avvar people.
Stone-Bear Hold also has contact with other Avvar holds, as evidenced in conversations with Svarah:
“Other holds share oaths with the Jaws of Hakkon. They are sworn to defend or avenge them.”
as well as the ambient dialogue heard after defeating the Jaws of Hakkon:
Avvar man: We should have a feast and invite the other friend-sworn holds.
Avvar woman: It feels like ages since we saw them. Should the lowlanders come?”
However, these holds are never identified by name, and it’s difficult to say how distant they are from Stone-Bear Hold.
Edvarr Hold is the hold from which chieftain Movran the Under and his son Hand of Korth originate. Its name is only referenced in ambient dialogue during the fight with Hand of Korth, when some other members of the hold, who followed the Hand into the Fallow Mire, may exclaim “For Edvarr Hold!”. However, it could also be how Hand of Korth decided to rename the Hargrave Keep after claiming it, and if that’s the case, the other hold led by chieftain Movran is unnamed in-game, as he himself doesn’t identify which hold he’s governing while speaking to the Inquisitor. Personally, I’m assuming that “Edvarr Hold” does refer to the hold led by Movran, and I’m using it as such. Edvarr Hold is probably located somewhere in the south-eastern part of the Frostbacks, in or near the Fallow Mire region, which is bordering with the Korcari Wilds. Movran has sent his son, Hand of Korth, to get rid of the Venatori in the area. Amund, the Sky Watcher who handles funerals among his tribe members, can also be found in the Fallow Mire, further leading me to believe that Hand of Korth did not go too far from his original hold. Depending on the player's choices, the settlement might actually become abandoned, as Movran takes his tribesmen to Skyhold, and he can be exiled together with them to Tevinter. If this option is chosen, Movran and his people relocate to Tevinter, possibly for the rest of their lives, which is rather intriguing, and I wonder what will become of them in the future.
“We have received word that "Movran the Under" has made good on your judgment of armed exile in Tevinter.  He and his clan immediately staked a claim to a large section of land along the Imperial Highway, at the edge of the Silent Plains.”[6]
Fennec-Tooth Hold is a settlement mentioned in the codex entry “On Avvar cuisine”. It had been visited by an Orlesian noble, so I would place it on the western slope of the Frostback Mountains. Its current status is unknown, though I like to think that it’s still inhabited. If it survived the wars between Orlais and Ferelden, it might yet thrive.
Wyvern Hold, Kinloch Hold and Vigil’s Keep were inhabited by the Avvar in the Ancient Age, prior to Tevinter occupation of the south (see Part 3 and Part 4 for more information). Judging by the information available, they were never reclaimed by the Avvar, even after the Imperium ceded its territories.
Skyhold too may have been inhabited by the Avvar at some point in history. The fortress had been claimed by many different groups of people, including the Chasind[7] and the Alamarri.[8] The name “Skyhold” might derive from the Avvar, seeing as it fits the naming convention of the Avvar settlements.
One of the notes mentions the hints of Avvar imagery in Skyhold.
“Avvar totemic representation of mabari, which followed into early Fereldan imagery. Ancient; we can't know if they were carved here or brought later. Interesting note: the kaddis pattern is subtly different than is typical, with unmistakable Tevinter elements. A strange addition if the occupants were Fereldan. Rivets in the pillar are often marks of generations of occupants, but eight seems high given how often Skyhold changed hands. Unless these are breeding generations of mabari. An interesting question would be: "eight starting from what?"[9]
These totems could represent the first generations of the mabari that deserted their previous owners and instead joined with the “barbarians” living in the lands occupied by Tevinter Imperium. The mabari breed was originally created by Tevene mages to help subdue the local population.[10] The Alamarri (and subsequently Fereldans) become known for their connection to the mabari, but the war dogs also accompany some Avvar people, such as Kell ap Morgan, a former Avvar jarl.
However, even if some Avvar had lived in Skyhold, it was many, many years before. Prior to the Inquisition relocating there, the fortress had been completely abandoned, probably for the last few centuries.
Speaking of Kell ap Morgan, he used to be a leader of an Avvar clan. His home is briefly described in the novel “The Calling” by David Gaider, though only in the form of a Fade dream. It’s implied that Kell’s clan suffered a great loss, something that affected his wife and child and caused Kell to abandon the Frostback Mountains and join the Wardens down the line. It’s possible that his entire hold has perished, though the reason has not been revealed in the novel, nor in any other media, as far as I know. The name of the settlement is also a mystery.
Another briefly referenced Avvar clan pops up in the story of Marethari Talas. When Marethari was a young mage, the First to the Keeper, her clan set camp in the Frostback Mountains, though it’s unclear where exactly. Likely, it was the eastern side, bordering Ferelden. In the winter of 8:82 Blessed, after a good hunting season, the clan was attacked by Avvar warriors for an unknown reason. The name of their hold is also unknown. The Keeper was gravely wounded in the attack, and many members of the Dalish clan were killed, including Marethari’s husband. Marethari took leadership of the survivors and ordered them to go into the Ferelden lowlands, while she went the other way, into an alpine forest, to seek out the Witch of the Wilds. She returned three days later, and the next day, the previous Keeper of the Sabrae clan died.
“And the Avvar tribe fell prey to what some survivors said were trees come to life, the wrath of the Mountain-Father himself.”[11]
The tabletop campaign also includes an Avvar settlement called Redhold, but as I mentioned, its position in the canon is debatable, so I’ll only point out that it exists in the RPG guidebook.
Summing up, there’s only one Avvar settlement that we can really examine from up close, with possibly two more persisting into the current times. As such, a lot of guesswork and headcanoning is involved when discussing this part of the Dragon Age setting. Each Avvar tribe is also a bit different from one another, but they still share core values, such as the worship of spirits. I encourage everyone interested in Avvar lore to explore it and draw their own conclusions, but what matters in the end is to have fun. I certainly enjoyed working on these theories, and I hope you enjoyed reading them if you reached this far.
Lady keep you!

ME + DA Friend Pairings
Okay but hear me out...
Shepard x The Warden/The Inquisitor
They would share stories of their heroism and their incredible strokes of luck. They would enjoy each other’s company, but would respectfully leave each other be out of the fear that some conflict would spawn out of nowhere and threaten the world (again).
Jeff “Joker” Moreau x Hawke / Varric Tethras
They would absolutely need tissues from crying out of laughter. No one would be safe from the treachery of their humor. Joker would spin stories at a rate that even Hawke was impressed with... Varric may have met his match. That begs the question, though: How much of  their stories are true?
Garrus Vakarian x Cullen Rutherford
Calibrations, strategy, and weaponry. Need I say more? These two would deliberate on their dreadful pasts and reflect on how they have changed their lives little by little to ensure that those tragedies don’t repeat themselves as long as they are still alive.
Kaidan Alenko x Alistair Theirin
Strong connections to their homeland. Would probably argue over who has the best national anthem, but laugh about it later over a warm homemade brew of Canadian-Fereldan craft beer.
Liara T’Soni x Lace Harding / Shaper Valta (same voice actress!)
Precious cinnamon rolls. All three of them. Each of them are curious about the world around them and are passionate when they talk about their work. However, they would not need to be protected at all costs, for they could easily protect themselves.
James Vega x The Iron Bull (same voice actor!)
They would host public contests to showcase who is stronger. Iron Bull would either hit James or hit on him. There’s no telling which would take place (first). There would be lots of competing and dancing between the two of them. Jimmy and Patches would have trouble getting bored.
Zaeed Massani x Fenris
Vengefully brooding in some corner, no doubt leaving a trail of dead bodies behind them. Zaeed would tell Fenris stories of how he killed a number of slavers as a mercenary, which would make him feel more comfortable in his company. Fenris, in turn, humored Zaeed by explaining how his hate for mages applies to biotics.
Urdnot Wrex x Sten
Severe levels of loyalty to their kin, to the point where they can make questionable decisions out of blind loyalty. They find respect for each other after questioning each other in their decisions and finding that they both learned from their experiences, and that an outsider’s influence may not have been the worst thing that could have happened to them.
Grunt x Oghren
Would absolutely attempt to out-drink each other. Grunt would learn to respect Oghren after he drank four bottles of ryncol and still managed to swing his axe in a 360 motion seven times without falling over. Grunt could do double that, but it was still more than anything a being half of his height could do.
Samara x Wynne
These two would talk about their need to protect others, and how their motherly love has grown to benefit those who need it. While Samara is dictated by the code, Wynne is aided by the spirit that possesses her. They ponder how they are lucky to be born with the gifts they are given, and that they are content with whatever fate has in store for them.
Thane Krios x Solas
I would be surprised if they did not discuss the meaning of life. They take pride in the fact that their role in their own lives is to serve as they are needed, and accept that some powers are greater than their own. However, this would not stop either of them in their endeavors to ensure that the ones they love are safe. Solas would attempt to replicate Thane’s reflective and vivid memories in the Fade, and invite him to experience it to lighten his burdens.
Morinth x Zevran Arainai
A dangerously provocative duo. These two would constantly tease each other into a bed somewhere, where Morinth could attempt to get Zevran to embrace eternity. Luckily, Zevran is smart enough to know when he is about to be overwhelmed by a woman (in a bad way), and can easily weasel his way out of her grasp. Regardless, the cycle continues.
Miranda Lawson x Isabella
These ladies would likely find comfort in talking about the little things that give them so much in common. It would help take away from their hectic lives, and allow peace to be found in fashion catalogs and their fierce independence.
Jack x Sera
At first, Jack would be incredibly annoyed by Sera. I mean, really, really annoyed. That is, until Jack stumbles upon some brownies in her quarters. Sera’s baking skills have improved since the bad cookies, and have evolved into a mastery of a red sand and lyrium brownies. It started out as a prank, but Jack makes sure to carry a few of them with her wherever she goes now, usually to remind herself not to destroy Sera the next time she sees her.
Kasumi Goto x Leliana
These girls would create some kind of secret language they could use to share information in a normal conversation with their peers. Even though they would refuse to share any secrets of their own, they would at least have fun with each other in the new world they have created together.
Ashley Williams x Anders
Both of these characters would share their constant strife with their unpopular opinions, which they do not hesitate to share. While they may find it difficult to get along with their peers because of this, they manage to get along with each other due to their dedication to their morals.
Commander Bailey x Blackwall
Would sit in immeasurable amounts of guilt and silence and avoid eye contact like the plague. Still, they could do that together and have a mutual understanding without speaking a word. The crossed arms would be enough.
Tali’Zorah vas Normandy x Josephine Montiliyet
They would share stories of their people’s history, which took place in ships that led to the success of generations. Each of them would explain the logistics of the ships they speak of, and be shocked in the stark difference between them. However, they would no doubt take notes of the intricate and fragile operations they function within.
Legion x Cole / Justice
An interesting combination, these three are. They have had the most elaborate journeys in self discovery, that they find it most beneficial that they share their knowledge. They also face identity crises, and find the experience most enlightening. They share the fear of becoming corrupted in the world they live in, which is a fear that is often shared with organics outside of the veil.
Mordin Solus x Merrill
Two researchers who are known for their questionable work, Mordin and Merrill would have the most interesting interactions. Merrill would be too anxious to cut Mordin off to explain how her magic works, so she would just silently sit and watch him pace back and forth and wait until he got close to passing out.
Dr. Karin Chakwas x Flemeth
Incredible amounts of wisdom. Essentially cares for others as needed, and they would go out of their way to ensure that others heed their warnings. Chakwas would share her grief about Joker and his resistance to take his medicine, while Flemeth would share her grief about Morrigan and her resistance to take her seriously.
Aria x Morrigan
They have both worked hard to attain their knowledge and power, and they will fight others to the death over what is theirs. However, if they grow close enough, they ~might~ show each other some vulnerability out of the sheer confidence that they are strong enough to destroy the other. However, Aria would remember Nyreen’s ethics and try to ensure that Kieran remains untouched.

Numbers 22:21-23:30, Luke 1:57-80, Psalms 58:1-11, Proverbs 11:12-13
Today is the 15th day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it's great to be here with you today. This is as close as we can get to the center of the month, right? Halfway through today is I think the dead center of the month. So, welcome to the middle of March. A couple weeks from now we will complete the first quarter of the year if you can believe it. A couple weeks from now it's gonna be just about Easter if you can believe it. But we’re here. We’re here in the season that we know as Lent, a season that is leading us toward Easter, a season that allows us to just spend 40 days of…of deep introspection and contemplation on the sacrifice of Jesus and all of His work on our behalf, but also, the ways we reject that to our own peril and doom and we invite God, we invite the Holy Spirit to rearrange us, to remove from us the things that don't belong in our lives, even if they were good things and they just have no purpose anymore, to remove the things that don't belong in our lives and to introduce the things that do belong into our lives and to rearrange the things that belong that are in our lives as we aim toward resurrection day. So, I guess…I guess that’s the lay of the land. That's where we are in our year, but we've come for one thing and that is to take the next step forward in the Scriptures today. And, so, let's get to it. We’re reading from the God's Word translation this week. We are in the book of Numbers. The children of Israel are wandering around the wilderness. Just their very presence is causing anxiety among the leaders of different nations around them. The Moabites have sent for a person to come and curse the Israelites in the desert. His name is Balaam and we’re…we’re in the middle of his story. That's where we'll pick up today. Numbers chapter 22 verse 21 through 23 verse 30.
Commentary:
Okay. So, there is plenty we could talk about from the book of Numbers and this story of Balak the king of Moab and Balaam. I don't know what we would call him, the hired curse assassin or something like that, like the person who’s hired to come and put a curse upon people. It's a really weird story isn't it? Like talking donkeys, the whole nine. It's very strange, but we need to get a little bit further into it and so we’ll wait until tomorrow so that we can see the full complexion of the story because, man it’s like so many the other points in the Bible, it’s a mirror. So, we’ll get to that probably tomorrow. Let’s just pay attention to what's going on in this story.
In the book of Luke, we’re…we’re still in chapter 1 of the book of Luke so we’re just getting going, but the book of Luke begins with the narrative telling us of the birth of Jesus. And I point that out because this is the last time this year where we will encounter that narrative, the story that we know as…as the Christmas story. Only two of the four Gospels have anything to say about the birth of Jesus and that would be Matthew and Luke whereas Mark and John don't…don’t refer to the birth of Jesus or tell that story. So, I'm pointing that out so that again we don't just assume, “well we’ll hear that story again, I’ve heard it a million times” so that we actually press into the narrative of the coming of Jesus into the world and the development of His ministry. So, we have already, you know, Gabriel's already come to Mary and she's…she's given her permission, she surrendered herself to God's will. She's already seen her cousin Elizabeth, who is also pregnant in her old age. So, a bit of a miraculous turn of events. And Zechariah the priest, the husband of Elizabeth how he was struck dumb as he was serving in the temple because he couldn't get his head around how he was gonna have this child in his old age. So, he wasn’t allowed to talk. He wasn’t able to speak until the child was born, which is what we witnessed today. John, the cousin of Jesus was born and he will grow up and will be known as John the Baptist or John the baptizer because that's what his ministry will look like and we’ll see that soon enough as we get a little bit further into the book of Luke. What I want to point out today is how easy it is for us to read the narratives of the Gospels and just kind of…it's…it's like Jesus and John, they just show up one day. We…we hear of their births and then they just show up one day. John just wanders in out of the desert and starts calling the people to repentance or Jesus just seems to show up at the Jordan and gets baptized. And it's like they grew up in a vacuum somewhere and then just appeared magically when that's not really what happened, and we’ll see this with Jesus as well as we go forward. But with John today. Well, what happened? Elizabeth and Zechariah a priest of God, so somebody who would be known by the community, they were righteous according to the New Testament and they were also elderly, and they were also childless. The people around them would've known all of these things and then when the priest Zechariah receives his commission to go and burn incense before the Lord and goes into the temple and he's in there too long and then he comes out and can't talk then everybody who was waiting outside knew that…that he had seen a vision according to the New Testament and he couldn't talk. So, obviously something’s up, something supernatural is up. People are going to be talking about these things. And then finally John is born to Elizabeth and Zechariah in their old age. Zechariah still can't talk to name the child. And, so, Elizabeth says his name is gonna be John, which is another thing that confuses the people because that’s not usually how you name people in your family. Like this son should be named after his father and nobody else in the family is named John. So, it’s odd. And, so, they appealed to Zechariah and Zechariah confirms his name is John and that opens his mouth and he’s able to talk again and the Spirit falls upon him and he prophesies. So, John didn't just appear out of nowhere in a vacuum. All of these events happened that are noteworthy and would've had the people talking, right? So, if you had followed that story and were around Jerusalem or in the outskirts of Jerusalem around Zechariah and Elizabeth you knew their story and how they had this child miraculously and then named him oddly and then Zechariah prophesies. This is the kind of stuff you’re gonna be talking about and you’re gonna wonder, “what’s gonna become of that kid? Like what's…what is all of this that's happening? What is his destiny? What is this future?” So, then when John does show up coming out of the desert at the Jordan River calling the people to repentance, he’s not just some crazy person who has just gone mad out in the desert. He has a reputation from birth that God has his hand upon this man. And, so, we can see in the gospel narratives that the people believe John to be a genuine prophet of the most-high God. Even when the religious leaders confront Jesus about his own authority Jesus confounds their questioning by saying, “where did John's authority come from, right?” Because all of the people believed he was a true prophet of the most-high God except for the religious people. And this is an miraculous thing. That's the thing of it. Like this is a miraculous thing for a prophet of the most-high God to show up because in their story a prophet of God hadn't been among them for 400 years from the end of what we would call the Old Testament, from the last book, the book of Malachi. 400 years go by before there is a legitimate prophet of the most-high God that the people actually recognize. So, that's where we are in the book of Luke with John beginning his ministry and his ministry, of course, as he declares is to prepare the way of the Lord. So, let's enter into this. As we…as we move through the gospel of Luke let's enter into the details of the story. Let's look at the context surrounding the story so that we might more accurately and truly embrace the story and make it a part of our story.
Prayer:
Father we thank You for Your word and we thank You for all of the people that we get to meet in Your word, all of the spiritual ancestry that has gone before. And we look at these people and there’s so many time we can see miraculous things happening but they’re normal people. There is nothing particularly different about them than us, and You have invited us to be a part of Your story upon this earth at this time. And, so, as we engage with and interact with the stories in the Scriptures, we find ourselves. So, Holy Spirit come. Continue to lead us into all truth. This is…this is all we want, is all truth, that we might walk the narrow path that leads to life. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Hey family this is Benjamin the Sower calling. I would just like some prayer today just for the people in my life, that God has placed in my path. Just that I've gotten the chance to reach out to and that He's….God has given me given me some friendship or connection or ability to…to witness to, my hairdresser Gage and neighbor Dale, my coworker Elise, just people who believe in…in God but that don't really know much more than that. I find just a lot of people out there are just kind of agnostic or call themselves atheist but that are like, “oh we can't know.” And just kind of hold that humility and, you know, they hold it up high but really it's…I think it might be fear of exploring. And yeah, just in those conversations it's been really cool but sometimes I've just felt tongue tide and, you know, hindsight afterwards, I'm sure we all have had that, looking back and thinking, “I wish that I had said, you know, said…said…said this or said more about you” or especially in times of covid just people looking for peace and hope. I just don't want to be ashamed of the gospel. I just…I've experienced the joy of it, and I want that for others. So, I would just love…love prayer over that for boldness, just for more opportunities. At my church we call it like taps on the shoulder from God, which is kind of…kind of cool. So, I just want the Holy Spirit to be tapping me more on the shoulder just to be able to…to see the needs around me and to see the chance of the gospel to come to life. Alright. Love you guys so much. Bye.
Hey everybody this is Carmen from Germany I thought it was time I call in again. I've been wanting to call, oh gosh, for weeks and you just kind of put it off. And I don't have any major requests for myself but I hear all of your requests and I pray along with you and keep thinking, “well I need to call in and…and let people know, you know, that I'm still here, that I'm praying for you.” But I just listened to March 12th and I heard the call from the anonymous woman who said she got herself into a pickle by doing…by taking her…her eyes off of God. And I thought, you know, you're speaking for so many of us. When I look back on my life and I think of all the times I've hurt people, I've got into bad…bad whatever, I mean, broken relationships, everything, it's always been because I took my eyes off of God and my own selfishness, thinking, you know, somehow, I could justify whatever I was doing either that or…or being so selfish that I didn't even think about it. But anyway, I want you to know that I'm going to be praying for you as well as so many people because I think you speak for so many of us and I think that so many of us can relate to what you're…you’re saying and probably even what you're going through without knowing the details because we’ve all got our own versions of pickles we go through. Anyway, I'm praying for you. I thank you also for letting us know as a reminder for us to keep our eyes on Jesus just as that song says, “look full into His wonderful face.” So, thank you very much. I'm praying for you. Brian happy belated birthday and Jill I just want to let you know you are wonderful. I just love everything that you're doing on the DABC. So, the both of you and Brian together, what a wonderful…
I’d just like to thank the Lord for taking away my wife's cancer. She was diagnosed two years ago with metastatic Melanoma and through fervent prayer from family members and church members it's gone. The treatment worked. Her spirits are good. Now we just need to go back in six months to continue to do cat scans and MRIs to make sure it doesn't come back. And we were told by the doctor that only 10% of the people who recovered the way she did can get it back, only 10%. So, I continue in prayer and all my good friends at the Daily Audio Bible which I've been doing now for eight years every day, for eight years. I hear the prayers. I hear the crying that happens, and it breaks my heart, but together we all must pray and keep each other strong and continue to pray for Brian and his family. Prayer does work for our Lord is on the throne, doesn't change. But prayer changes things. And may we all seek the wisdom of God, have a joyful heart, and faith back and move mountains. Come Holy Spirit I pray. I ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Hi DAB family this is Abiola from New York I'm calling in wanting to throw another log on our wonderfully warm fire. I love you guys so much. Thank you, guys for having me a part. Praise God. Thank Him so much for the Holy Spirit guiding us all to this platform to where we can encourage and love on one another and not skip that beat in recognizing who He is in our lives. He's so good to us and I just wanted you all to know that I pray with and for all of you guys. I'm asking for prayer to ask for prayer. I struggled with asking for help and asking people to pray for me and trusting people with things that's going on with me and how I feel. So, I know that I need to ask. So, pray for me to be able to ask for prayer. I also wanted to pray for Kelly from Boston. Sis, I am praying with you that you and your husband in the second half of your marriage comes out better than the first half. I'm praying for total reconciliation and love and forgiveness to resonate through your relationship. I'm also praying the same for anonymous. God bless you for being able to confess your sin. I pray that those people around you in your relationships have a softened heart towards you. I pray that you guys can all reconcile and love. The of Christ can be the epitome of all of our lives. God bless you all.
Hi, my name is Marybeth I'm calling from New Hampshire I'm a first-time caller asking for a prayer request. I'm going in for an endoscopy on March 22nd and I've been having a lot of symptoms and I'm really concerned and I'm…my imagination keeps going towards cancer and I just have to hold my thoughts captive and not go there and just trust in the Lord. I just ask for healing and I just pray that God's will be done. And I also ask if you will pray for my husband for his Salvation and I pray for my son. He is in the military in the Middle East, and I pray for his Salvation. And I thank you for everybody's prayers in advance. Thank you.

LIFE UPDATE
to all the people who are probably minding their own business, Hi! padaan naman sa dashboard niyo. Ayways, since I’M DONE WITH THIS SEM! tho last last week pa at di naman ganon kadami reqs ko, LET ME CELEBRATE!! yaay at dahil last day na ng june 2020 at sana nasa kalahati na siguro tayo sa daang malubak na ito, may ishashare ako.
at from our compound’s pov, di mo kita ang kalsada so mga halos buong araw lang ako nakahiga or nakaupo (which is very unhealthy pero kasi tinatamad ako mag exercise atleast binalak ko diba?) ayon so here’s the list of things na ginagawa ko or skills na dinedevelop ko ngayon for self satisfaction at siguro magagamit ko at some point in time?
BUJO/ART- sooo I’m back at it again tho di naman ako artist  plus di naman ako marunong magdrawing at natripan ko lang talaga to dati kasi puro aesthetic accounts finofollow ko dito at sa yt sooo gumaya ako. And sadly medyo tinigil ko to midway last year kasi di kinaya ng powers ko magka extra time dahil medyo natagalan pa ako bago maka-adjust sa pagiging isang college student so I would prefer sleep over any hobbies kasi I swear ramdam na ramdam ko noon na parang kulang ang 24 hours sa isang araw para macomplete lahat ng kailangan ko gawin para sa class kinabukasan (okay tama na masyadong roller coaster ride lang talaga first sem). I’ve decided to start again kasi baka amagin na lahat ng art supplies ko dito and yung savings ko nung hs halos dito napunta lahat at para na din magkahobby ulet ako
FANGIRL- henloooo stan twt! I’m back medyo di muna kasi ako nag stan twt last sem I mean lowkey na lang di tulad noon na everyday all day stan twt lang inaatupag ko. And I must say, source of happiness talaga ito. yun lang naman sana di niyo malaman stan twt ko (tho madami akong accounts mga isa per group) kasi ang hyper ko don.
GENERAL RANDOM KNOWLEDGE- so basically ginagawa ko lang to kasi puno ng regrets yung 4 month vacation ko last year which resulted sa kalawang na utak kaya medyo nahirapan ako pagbalik ng school. Ang purpose talaga nito ay para lang di ko makalimutan kung paano mag-aral kasi ganon nangyari sakin last year bago mag college. As of now, puro daily trivias and know-hows lang inaalam ko na makakalimutan ko din at some point pero gusto ko sana aralin like hindi naman sauluhin kasi di naman ako cocontest like kakabisaduhin ko lang yung flags of the world or capitals ng bawat country kaso iniisip ko pa lang napapagod na ako so sana dumating yug araw na masimulan ko na
THIRD LANGUAGE-  di naman ako nageexpect maging fluent dito kasi number 1, the key to fluency ay kailangan may kausap ka on a daily basis at hindi straight from text books lang. Tho sinimulan ko na to dati and may alam naman akong basic korean words before and natuto ako ng hangul nung grade 8 pa,  I AM VERY PROUD OF MYSELF DAHIL NAKAKAITINDI NA AKO NG VIDEOS NA WALANG SUB hindi naman fully pero siguro mga 50% of the time. Mostly kapag nanonood nanay ko, nakatalikod ako sa tv and tinatranslate ko in english at tumatama naman ako. Nakakaintindi na ako ng mga drama without sub (hindi lang yung context like yung dialogue din) pero shempre may mga parts na left out pati live ng mga idols uwu. Sooner or later balak ko din gumawa ng account for live translations e sana may time ako.
So naisipan ko na parang gusto ko magsulat with my left hand. I did some research naman and practice is the key lang talaga tho malabo daw yung chance na magkapareho ng handwriting ng left and right hand, atleast marunong diba like kapag napagod ako with the right kaya ko magsulat with the left. I started writing whole page paragraphs sa isang notebook and nakakatuwa lang kasi nakikita mo yung progress talaga and I’m proud!

"Wait, so, explain it again? Because that just doesn't make any sense." A confused human looked up at the creature that stood before him, a large being seeming made of living stone.
Og'knuk let out a slow sigh, a sound akin to shifting sand. "Smith, Almost no other planets engage in the eating of other living life forms. Especially from their own planetoid. We Og'sai, for example, subsist upon minerals and other hard carbons when needed. The concept of eating another living being, sentient or not, is just..." He paused for a moment as he searched for the right human word, "disturbing."
"Well, what else are we supposed to do? It's how our species was raised so to speak. Since as far as we've been able to tell through our own artifacts, it was either be eaten by other creatures or eat them." Smith gave a small matter-of-fact shrug. "Sure, we eat plant life on our planet as well, but we kinda have to in order to survive." He paused a moment before sheepishly bowing his head in the direction of a nearby window where a tree-like creature stood. "No offence intended."
"So why not evolve to change? Subsist on light protons like the tranni or even radiation like the balak tur? Why continue to devour others?"
Og'knuk was surprised when Smith laughed in response. "Just evolve to change? Do you have any idea how to do that? Well, actually you probably do to be fair. Your the ones with interplanetary space travel, while we can still barely send out probes." Smith shook his head a moment at himself. "Look, simply put we can't just force ourselves to evolve a certain way. Hell, the majority of my planet doesn't even believe in evolution in the first place no matter how hard you try. And believe me I've tried. Maybe actual aliens, no offence, would change their mind. But even then it's not like we could do something like that anyway. We don't have tech to even pretend, let alone try." Smith shook his head again. "And people are stuck in their ways. Trying to change them is like trying to do something impossible. I'd use an earth analogy but I feel they would be lost to interpretation as insult."
The stone creature simply nodded in understanding. The human was right. Compared to almost every other known inhabited planet earth was practically in last place in technology. Perhaps that was the explanation after all. But when Smith spoke again, it sent fissures through his core.
"If I could make one suggestion, don't try to show humans other species that are organic. While some may want to befriend them, depending on how they may look compared to earth creatures... Well, let's just say they might get a bit hungry."
Living things literally eating each other is actually pretty rare in the universe. Earth is one of the few places. Most thing evolved to eat minerals or survive off the sun, chemicals, or radioactive materials. That’s actually why the aliens don’t visit us. They find Earth deeply disturbing.

Pairing meme #10, Shenko
Shenko / #10 “Teach me how to play?”
Apparently the muse chose my TSP Shenko… and set it between ME2 and ME3… which is divergent from the actual game quite a bit.
——
It still felt a bit strange to him, sitting on a couch in her apartment, as they ate out of Chinese cartons. He saw her practically every day, when they met for her requisite training, but of late, he saw her twice, when he inevitably stopped by to bring her dinner. They’d share a meal, in relative silence, and he’d eventually head on to his own place. It was all rather domestic of them.
And Kaidan could tell Alexis hated every bit of that.
Her blonde hair fell across her shoulders, against the pale grey sweater that was clearly too large for her. She tucked her legs underneath her, all while holding her chopsticks like she intended to stab him with them at the first opportunity. That ought to have terrified him, yet he couldn’t help but chuckle about the circumstances.
She raised an eyebrow, her blue eyes narrowing, as she jabbed the contents of her carton. “What’s so funny?”
“Just…” He put his own carton aside, next to the half drank beer on the coffee table. The last thing he wanted to do was ruin the moment, so he chose his words carefully. “Amused by the situation.”
She scrunched her nose, like she did whenever she disliked what someone was telling her. It was rather cute when she did, but he wasn’t about to say that either. “Well, there’s nothing amusing about me being locked up here.”
“One,” he reached for his beer, taking a swig of it. “You’re not being kept here against your will. You’ve been given leave to go wherever you want.”
She took another bite of her food. “On the base. With an escort.”
“It’s a precaution.”
“It’s insulting.” Setting her carton on the table, she took a long drink of her own beer. As insulting as she thought it was, she knew all the reasons why the brass enforced the escort and kept her on their grounds. After what happened to her, they were taking no chances with her safety. His gut twisted as those dark thoughts flitted by. “Besides which, half of the places I want to go to, I’m told no.”
“Such as?”
“The range. Last time I tried I was refused.”
That much made sense to him. She liked her guns, always had. He was sure that there was a reason for the restriction initially, but she had been on Earth for a couple of months now. There was a good chance they could lift that restriction now. “I can try to talk to someone then. See if I can get you access.”
“Don’t bother.” With a huff, she leaned back against the couch, arms crossed under her breasts.
He ignored the insult that her words conveyed. Everything about her situation was difficult to say the least. He didn’t blame her so much for rejecting the help, but it was frustrating. Part of why she was here was because she needed help. He wanted to be part of that for her. “You need a hobby then.”
She scoffed at the notion, refusing to look at him. “Like what?”
“Oh, I don’t know. How about cooking?”
“Cooking?” There was an incredulous note in her voice, matched by the arch of a brow.
It wasn’t a terrible idea. Kaidan knew from past experience that she didn’t really cook, just based on how she handled Julia. “What, don’t tell me you enjoy eating out all the time?”
“No, but I’ve never had the patience for it. Nor the desire.” She shook her head, the blonde hair swaying against her shoulders. “Besides that’s more Ella’s thing.”
He opened his mouth to counter that point, but he decided against it. Kaidan never truly understood the intricacies of the Shepard relationships, which obviously included calling carte blanche on certain activities. It was time to start reaching for other ideas. “You could catch up on your reading?”
“I can’t read all day. That’s going to drive me even more crazy.”
That was the problem. She was going crazy because all she had before this happened was her work. He knew that. The only thing that she ever really gave herself to other than the Alliance was to her music, a problematic subject to be certain. Still, perhaps with the mandated therapy, it was an option again. “Have you thought about…”
“No. Absolutely not.” The words came as if she read his mind. She couldn’t. That was the part she didn’t say, and he didn’t need to hear her say those words. He knew that much, and he was an ass to even try to bring it up. Even now, he watched as she flexed her fingers; he wasn’t even sure she was aware she did that whenever anyone mentioned music to her these days. Balak robbed her of a great many things, including two years of her life, but the loss of her music had to be one of the most egregious of offenses. It had been her passion, her place of calm, and her connection to her father.
It was important to her, and just like that, it was gone.
“Alright, well,” he paused as he tried to think of anything else that she’d like. It shouldn’t be so difficult, but her Alliance career had taken priority over everything for so long. Not to mention, that despite the connection, the feelings between them, they never got a chance to really share much of their personal lives prior to, well, everything. “Hell, Alexis, I’m not sure what to suggest. Unless you wanted to take up one of my hobbies.”
With a shake of head, he took another bite of his food, hoping he managed to cover his own frustrations about the situation. The last thing he wanted was to make things more difficult, for either of them, and with as quiet and still, as she had gotten, he really suspected that he may have pushed the wrong buttons. One of these days, he would manage to do things right.
A single hand reached up and raked itself through her blonde hair before she reached back out to her food, her blue eyes intently upon him. “Like what?”
“Like what, what?”
“What’s one of your hobbies?”
Oh, hell, he had been mostly joking about that. It wasn’t like he had much time for them these days between work and her. Not that he minded; she was more than worth that sacrifice. He shrugged a bit. “Well, as you know, I do rather enjoy taking apart tech, learning more about how it works.” There was an immediate scrunch of her nose that made him laugh, earning a dark look from her. “Oh, don’t worry, I recall that you and tech don’t get along. Apart from that, I enjoy playing strategy games. Like chess, Risk, and even Mech-Tech.”
“Mech-Tech?”
He chuckled a bit as she looked to him, her brow furrowed as she regarded what he said. “It’s a game where you control a group of giant robots and set out to destroy one another. You have to maneuver around the terrain, gauge your resources, and sometimes pray for a bit of luck. You know, you would probably really enjoy it.”
There was another stretch of silence as she returned to eating, stabbing at the contents of her carton. Knowing his luck, she was looking for a polite way to turn him down. At least he could console himself with knowing that he tried.
“Could you…” Her voice wavered a bit, as she broke the silence, still staring at the Chinese food in her hands, “Teach me how to play?”
Had she actually been nervous to ask him that? Was it really that difficult for her to reach out, to ask for help, of any sort? Would it have been that difficult before? He pushed aside those thoughts as he scooted a bit closer to her, setting his own food aside. He placed a hand gently on her forearm, ignoring the way she stiffened underneath the simple contact. Another thing that they would work on - in time. “Of course I will.”

Amen

Okay so let me first say this: MARIPOS’ CHARACTER DESIGN IS VERY GOOD! He does not look too much alike humans (e.g Kaizo, Fang, Tarung, and the shield siblings) but he’s not exactly weird shape either (e.g Adudu, Kokoci, mopmop aliens, the mushroom aliens in bbbm2 that I forgot their name). You know he’s not a usual being you saw everyday but he’s not that different at all. And the hat?? The cloak????? Just for the character design only he already got an 8 out of 10 for me.
He’s also sassy?? And smiling, enjoying the fight?? That’s just more plus for him. I like him and I hope he becomes a regular character and I hope he has cool story afterwards though I don’t wanna have high hopes after what he got from Kaizo, sigh. Kaizo had so much potential.
His skill reminds me of Itachi from Naruto lmao I mean??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not a bad thing but I’m highly suspicious the one who wrote this issue is an Itachi fan lol. Not to say Maripos’ butterfly also make Gopal hypnotized (I know genjutsu is not exactly hypnotizing but ye you know what I mean)
Enough fangirling of Maripos(or maybe not?! Once I read issue 12 I probably will comeback to hype him up), I have a probably controversial opinion of the conflict (you probably can guess it already)
I’m okay with Boboiboy give her wind power to Kuputeri.
Look, he has 7 powers so by an outsider person view: they will think its ok even if he lose one, he would still be super strong! Some would even think that he's greedy to want all 7 elements. But then from bbb view: obviously he has sentimental value with his power, its impotant to him and to lose one? It would affect him mentally (just like in movie 2) But what if there's a dire situation that require him to give taufan away? Would he still oppose it or will he went with a more morale solution: give it away ?
You give an excellent point.
But look, all of Boboiboy’s powers are actually stolen. Like okay Retak’ka is the one who stole all of them and okay Boboiboy defeated Retak’ka the bad guy, but ultimately, all of those powers’ statuses are still “stolen” and needed to be back to its original owners unless they willingly give it to Boboiboy. Maybe except for Cahaya/Solar/Gamma power because Retak’ka is abusing his power, but what about the other?
Kasa has willingly give the boy his Tanah/Gempa/Crystal power (wait is the Crystal still on Kasa or does Kasa has given it to BBB? I forgot, it’s in the movie right?). King Balakung is already dead but his people agree for bbb to become the next master of Daun/Duri/Balak. But what about other original users? Kuputeri says she wants her Angin/Taufan/Beliung power back, and by any means she has every right to ask it back, no matter how BBB is emotionally attached to all of his powers, because none of them are actually HIS.
Even if in the end Kuputeri agreed to give it back to BBB (I’m almost 100% sure she will lmao BBBG is a kids’ show after all) I want to see more of BBB’s internal conflict with eventually mengikhlaskan (idk what’s the english word for it, google translate said sincerely but--) his powers to be back to its original user if the original user desire to have it back.
But I also want to blame Hang Kasa for this. He had Ochobot absorbing all of Retak’ka’s power and didn’t give it back to the original users despite knowing all of them? Even if he lost Ochobot not so long after he defeated Retak’ka, there was still time for Ochobot to absorbed Kasa’s Tanah & Gempa power (I’m curious how he got his power absorbed, couldn’t be by accident right? And if I remember correctly Adudu found Ochobot in a wild meteor, so did Kasa accidentally lost Ochobot?) But my point is Kasa did nothing to give everyone their power back 100 years ago and now BBB had to face the consequences of the things he didn’t even know.
To be honest this is a difficult situations and I understand if BBB had a hard time to accept that his powers aren’t actually his, but I hope he got the character development he deserved. As the main character he lacks of characterization, really :(.
Okay so that’s my opinion about it!

Exodus 10:1-11 comments: a plague of locusts
Exodus 10:1 ¶  And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him: 2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD. 3 And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me. 4 Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: 5  And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field: 6  And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. 7  And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? 8  And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? 9  And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD. 10  And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. 11 Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
Verse two of chapter ten gives us one of the reasons for what is happening. God has an eye on history. These plagues on Egypt are a testimony for future generations. Christians should look to these events to understand God’s power and to have their faith confirmed in part.
Romans 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Sadly, the Hebrews will not honor God’s commission regarding teaching, although technically for the hyperliteralist they did honor the command through the second generation. Of course, common sense tells us that God wanted the teaching done in every generation but, then, hyperliteralists aren’t possessed of much common sense.
Judges 2:7  And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel...10  And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
In verse 4 we have the promise of a plague of locusts to enter Egypt’s border which is the definition of the word coast in the Bible.
Numbers 21:13  From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Numbers 22:36  And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
The National Geographic website explains that locusts are related to grasshoppers and look very much alike but their behavior is much different. While locusts are solitary insects like grasshoppers they have a phase they can go through which is called the, “gregarious phase.” They can, under the right environmental conditions, with plenty of food and conditions ripe for breeding, grow into, “thick, mobile, ravenous swarms,” that can destroy crops and cause major agricultural damage, famine, and starvation.[1] This swarm of locusts will be unlike anything anyone has ever experienced before so there is no use trying to find a comparison with swarms of locusts you read about in the news today. God is working through these creatures as He works through men and women.
Solomon, in Proverbs, makes a statement about four types of creatures that goes against all modern concepts, such as evolution, in ascribing personhood, which is based on self-identity, and wisdom, which is a synonym for understanding, to specific creatures which we have been taught are not much more than simple and annoying biological machines. People, folk, and going out by bands, a term used again when talking about the Roman military units or a group of people, all imply something more than the modernist and the evolutionist give them credit for. Is the following simply metaphorical speech, an anthropomorphism, or describing something with deeper meaning?
Proverbs 30:24 ¶  There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: 25  The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; 26  The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; 27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; 28  The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.
We all play our part in the bundle of life (1Samuel 25:29).
After the counsel of Pharaoh’s servants to let the Hebrew men only leave, the Pharaoh calls them again and tells them he will let the men go to worship, leaving their families. That is the limit of his concession at this point, to let the men go to worship after the advice of his servants, probably not meaning domestic servants but ministers and advisers.
1Kings 10:5  And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
Esther 6:3  And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
Moses and Aaron are then driven from the Pharaoh’s presence. A rod turned into a serpent, infestations of frogs, lice, flies, a great plague among the Egyptian cattle, boils on the Egyptians themselves, hail mingled with thunder and lightning and fire and now a gigantic swarm of locusts. A nation is being brought to its knees by God and still, its leader will not listen or yield. There is always a question isn’t there? God has not spoken directly to Pharaoh but through Moses and Aaron and these terrifying signs. Pride is a great blinding mechanism, though. Has it been in your life?

MASS EFFECT OC WEEK
You know what? Eff it. I’m still in a Writerly Mood, and I forgot about the Shakedown characters, which is a travesty on my part. I’m gonna answer my own questions! (and put them behind a readmore in case you want to avoid my self-indulgence)
So let’s talk about Korbin Vorek.
What is the character’s full name, and how did you come up with it?
We don’t get a lot of batarian names in Mass Effect, so I went with the one that we definitely do—Balak. That gave me a base to start with, and I always want to stay as close to canon as I can, so I stuck with the same exact format; five letters, a K, some vowels, two syllables, had to be easy to say. Vorek worked.
Korbin came from Bruce Willis’ character in The Fifth Element, natch. Except I changed it from an E to an I, because that would have been too many E’s. It sounded good, it fit, it had a K in it. It all flowed nicely. Korbin Vorek. I’m actually still sort of proud of that. Names can be real hard to get right.
What inspired you to create this character?
Mass Effect never had a batarian squadmate. They remained the one-dimensional shitty bad guys for the entire trilogy. We got a geth squadmate and we never got a batarian. That’s just insane to me.
Also, while I wrote this before DA3, I love the Dorian archetype for a squaddie. Someone from the Bad Place that has layers and is a complicated character. Except unlike Dorian, Vorek never tries to justify anything the Hegemony does. He never makes excuses, never goes “not all batarians!!!” or anything like that. All he wants (if he wants anything from anyone) is to gently, indirectly remind people that the Hegemony is composed of people, and while the Hegemony might be a one-dimensional shitty bad guy, the people who compose it aren’t. Most of them, anyway.
What is the character’s greatest strength? What do they *think* is their greatest strength?
Vorek would probably say his intellect, because he’d take the question literally. But I think his greatest strength is probably his... well, humanity, for lack of any better word. There’s a gentleness to him that the Hegemony wasn’t able to stamp out, and a desire for peace for himself and his family that I think he would extend to anyone else. There’s very few people in this universe Vorek hates, I think. Whether you’d consider that a strength or not is I guess up to you.
What’s something (a person, a belief, a goal…) that your character would be willing to make major sacrifices for?
Vorek would do literally anything, up to and including violating his own ethics, if he felt it would protect his family from harm. But he isn’t an idiot, and he knows that said family wouldn’t want him to (his wife in particular would never forgive him) so he keeps that part of himself in check. And after all, much of what he did in defecting from the Hegemony was informed by his ethics as much as it was for their safety.
And he’d probably risk his life for most of the people he serves with on the Normandy, honestly. Sawyer in particular, who was the first real friend he made since his defection. He couldn’t really live with himself if he didn’t. (Which is a theme in a few of the characters I’ve written, now I think about it...)
