By pointing out the towns they deliver to, and differences they offer.  Furthermore, we hope that this article can help you decide the best food delivery service to satisfy your cravings

First of all, these companies have web and mobile versions.  Some features may be better suited for mobile devices.  For example, some have real time tracking where you can see your food’s current position.  But also, the web versions sometimes look cleaner, and are faster.  Therefore, I suggest you  try both if you have the access to a computer. 

If you are in the San Juan Metro Area, you will have the most options.

Unfortunately, the apps that we will mention do not reach all of the towns in Puerto Rico.  But you will notice that many towns in Puerto Rico are covered.  San Juan has the most coverage.  This is also due to the amount of restaurants in the Metro Area.  You can explore our guide to see the restaurants in the Metro area. There are also many towns that you can only find delivery service from the restaurants themselves.  So we encourage for you to research their social media for any updates on their services.

  COVID-19 and how it has changed restaurants.

Because of the COVID-19 quarantine lock down, I would say that almost every restaurant is currently using one of these services.  Since businesses can not open to the public, they’re only option is either use a delivery service, deliver themselves, or offer pickup.  Before the current crisis, many restaurants would normally choose only one or two services for delivery.  As a consumer, you would have to use two or three apps to order from your favorite places.  But currently, most restaurants are using all of the services.  Now it is up to you to research the different services to see which one you like the best.  Hopefully with our information below we can help you with that!

What we like about Uber Eats, is that it is an easy to use and also, a familiar app.  I believe a large portion of the tech-savvy population has used Uber at one time or another.  So your payment information and everything is already set up.  Uber is always a good place to start if you are new to ordering food in Puerto Rico.  The only downside is that they do not offer as much options as the following apps we will review.

DoorDash

DoorDash is also very popular app that is used in the States.  They offer delivery from many fast food places, and local restaurants.  Doordash is fairly new in Puerto Rico, but they already have a large variety of options.

UVA is a local Puerto Rico food delivery company that also offers pickup at most restaurants.  They service mainly the San Juan metro area.  What we like about UVA is their large variety of local restaurants and options.  Unlike Uber Eats, they do not offer delivery from fast food restaurants.  Their mobile app is user friendly, and their customer service is always responsive.  One thing that sets UVA apart from some of the other services, is that they offer non-food items.  They have partnered with brands like Garnier that offer hair products.  Toys4fun that have a large variety of board games, and kids games.  They also offer over the counter pharmaceutical products like pain and flu medicine.  They even have a sports equipment supplier that sells jump ropes, dumbbells, and all kinds of sports balls.  UVA has found a way to use their platform as an essential delivery service for all needs.

Dame Un Bite

Dame Un Bite is also a local food delivery service.  Their offer delivery and pickup from many local restaurants, and also have fast food restaurants.  They cover larger delivery area than the other apps, and continue to branch out to more towns. 

Dame Un Bite has a really easy to use app, and what we really liked is the tracking feature that shows you where your driver is on a map.  They have an extensive restaurant list, and many of the restaurants are not in other delivery apps.  One feature that we really like about Dame Un Bite is their medicine pickup service.  They offer a service to pick up your medicine at Walgreens, CVS, or at other local pharmacies.  This is a really unique service ,  but it is only offered in the San Juan Metro Area for the time being.

There are a few things that we like about Foodnet, like their easy to use web and mobile applications.  But specifically their option to sort by fastest restaurant.  You can put your address, and they will filter the restaurants that will arrive to you in the least amount of time.  They have been around the longest of all food delivery services.  So you know your will get good service.

provide fast and consistent service.  What we like the most about RonPon is their variety of products.  We mentioned that they are a complete liquor store, but they also sell groceries, ice, dog and cat food, and cleaning supplies.  RonPon is known for their alcohol, but they have evolved into a small online grocery store as well.  We highly suggest to download their app and look at the variety of products they have to offer.

Supermax

Supermax is a large supermarket chain in Puerto Rico.  They have locations in most towns around the San Juan area.  They offer everything that they sell in the supermarket through their app, and web site.  (Speaking from

experience, I would recommend using the website instead of the app)  Also, they offer a large variety of alcohol, and freshly cut cheese and ham by the pound from their deli.  What we like the most about Supermax apart from their endless variety, is that you can choose your delivery time and date.  They provide good service, and if you like to plan ahead, you can stay home and not have to go to the grocery store.

How To: Explain Coding Projects To A Team Of Non-Coders

We've all been a part of (or have overheard) a conversation where you have no idea what someone is talking about. Perhaps you've tried to read a medical report given to you or your pet, and even though it was in English, it felt entirely foreign to you. This can be the case with the programming world as well. Trying to communicate with non-coders about specific coding aspects can leave them feeling lost.

Coding is incredibly jargon-heavy. Not only that, but the jargon can often differ in meaning depending on the language. While there are aspects to any coding projects that nearly anyone can understand, a lot of it requires you to understand the jargon. Trying to communicate with non-developers about your project requires you to find ways to explain it without using confusing jargon.

The goal of this blog is to give you tips and advice on how to effectively explain your projects to non-coding members of your team so that everyone is on the same page about what is going on in the workplace.

Explain the End Goal

Unless your project is incredibly developer-specific, try to explain the project in broad and general terms first like you would explain it to a potential user. While you’ll likely have to get into the specifics later, a general understanding of the end goal is vital for someone who is not familiar with code. It will help them be able to picture the smaller details and comprehend the more complex components by relating them to an overall picture.

If the end product is still slightly unclear, begin by explaining some features of what you’re currently working on, or explaining your overall vision for the product. Find some way to relay it to the other person that makes them as excited for the project as you are.

Use Analogies

One of the most effective ways to have people understand something is to compare it to something they might already be familiar with. While I'll go into relating it to a similar product later, don't get stuck on that if something similar doesn't exist or is too complicated. I’ll give an example of what I mean.

Say perhaps you’re trying to explain your role in the backend of a project to someone who doesn’t know anything about code. You want to convey to someone that your role in the project is building out a significant portion of the server. While this is simple to understand as a developer, we want to explain it in a way that has nothing to do with the project.

Firstly, knowing your audience is a great start. Explaining something to a tech-savvy person versus someone who hates technology will be very different. While most people who are familiar with tech will understand what a server is, someone who isn’t might be completely lost if you assume it’s an understood word.

Once you have a grasp on what your audience’s knowledge base is, you can decide what analogy will best fit. But with coding, one of the tried and true examples when explaining general client-server architecture is to use the restaurant analogy. So if you want to convey your role in the company and the project as working on the backend, it could be helpful to portray it as you being the “kitchen”. There is a great article that dives deeper into using this analogy for those that may be interested.

Regardless of your chosen method, choose an analogy that is simple and understandable.

Keep It Simple

One of the best things to remember when trying to explain a project or concept to someone less familiar with the topic is to remove anything that they don’t need to know. Don’t bog them down with information about the language and framework if they don’t need to know any aspect of it to understand it. Generally speaking, when having to explain a project to a non-coder, you're trying to explain what the project can currently do, or what it is going to be able to do. The more unnecessary information you provide someone with, the more likely they are to get confused.

It’s very easy to get excited and passionate about something you’re working on. Being able to convey that to other people on your team is important, but it’s important to not overwhelm them with any information they don’t need.

Show Them Inspiration

Very often, coding projects and software ideas come from a developer or team of people wanting more from a currently available software. Sometimes they wish a software had more features or a better sense of community, so they set out to make their own software that borrows some concepts and functionality while expanding on it with their own ideas.

This is best explained via social media. Essentially, the core of all social media is exactly the same, yet we have so many different applications available to us. You’ll also notice that when a company adds on a new feature, other applications scramble to stay relevant by implementing the same feature on their own.

This is not specific to social media and is the case with most software and applications. Unless you have an incredibly unique and niche product or service, there is probably already something similar on the market. Relate the product you’re going to be building to something else someone would have come in contact with, or can easily look up to see it working in action. Then explain how the software or application that you are building differs from it, and what features you will be adding.

All in all, the best way to describe something that is outside of someone’s knowledge base is to keep it simple and be able to relate it to things they understand already. Whether you do this through analogy or comparison, knowing how to communicate your ideas to non-coders is an essential skill as a developer.

Designing for Social Justice

“When we are trained within a profession to move from rote use of tools and techniques at our disposal in order to accomplish tasks, to instead expanding upon the tools and techniques to assure they work for different populations and contexts, we are being taught to design and make new things or to further innovate-in-use and remix existing things”. 

I remember working in a retirement home as a med tech and the transferring process from documenting on paper to documenting via a computer took such a long time. It was quite challening for my older co workers to learn this updated technology and although they were veterans within in the company, they felt defeated when this became an essential part of our work. I was thankful that I was a professional myspace user lol and it didn’t take me long to learn this new technology. I actually was very thankful for it, becuase it was a major time saver as far as scanning in medicaitons as opposed to manually documenting them in the patient’s chart. I loved being able to request a refill from the patient’s providers, follow up with getting these prescriptions filled, etc. all on the MAR. 

“ We all design personally and professionally to some extent or another”. While this process took a lot of time for my older co workers, they adapted to this new technology and was able to teach me a few tricks also. 

“ Libraries are a center for information access and serve to benefit their people in a wide range of ways. Over time, approaches and perspective have had to change to adapt to new opportunities and needs”.

I’ve witnessed this many times when visiting the public libraries where patrons are constantly seeking assistance from librarians. There have been instances where I would be asked as well  by a stranger to help them navigate the computers or online search for a book. I think with design thinking they should really take into consideration that not everyone is tech savvy and perhaps think about whether or not what they’re creating is user friendly for people who didn’t grow up with resources to the technology that we have. It would be great to see all users including those who are non english speaking being able to navigate the newest technology gadget.

Facebook Whistleblower Another Scam

LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Oct. 7, 2021.--Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen, 37, told the Senate Science, Commerce and Technology subcommittee Oct. 5 that her former employer takes profits over safety, promoting divisions in American society, including promoting the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. “The result has been more division, more harm, more lies, more threats, and more combat.  In some cases, this dangerous online talk has led to actual violence that actually harms and kills people,” Haugen told the U.S. Senate subcommittee.  Haugen knows that Facebook and other tech companies are black boxes, not something figured out by non-tech savvy members of Congress.  Hearing Haugen you’d think that the mere presence of Facebook brainwashed young-and-old alike into thinking or acting in dangerous ways. Haugen’s testimony sounded similar to Christine Blasey Ford, who testified against Associate Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh.

           Blasey Ford’s testimony was used politically to sabotage Kavanaugh’s nomination, accusing him as a high school student of attempted rape at some murky party at a suburban home  Haugen warned against Facebook causing undue harm to consumers promoting potential violence through its various apps.  “During my time a Facebook, I came to realizes a devastating truth:  Almost no one outside Facebook knows what happens inside Facebook,” Haugen told Congress, speaking in hyperbole and the most general terms.  “The company intentionally hides vital information to the public, the U.S. government and from government around the world,” Haugen said, painting nefarious activity inside the Silicon Valley behemoth. Facebook and Twitter made a big mistake banning former President Donald Trump from the platform, citing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

           When you listen to Haugen, it’s easy to see how she exaggerates the harm Facebook causes to society, the same kind of argument given to certain TV shows, video games or other aspects of pop culture claimed to cause violence.  Haugen, a former data scientist with Facebook, commented about the effect of the social network on society, claiming Congress doesn’t know what goes on inside the company.  Congress also doesn’t know what goes on inside many businesses, something Haugen doesn’t consider.  Facebook officials, including billionaire CEO Mark Zuckerberg, disagrees with Haugen’s analysis.  “It’s disheartening to see that work taking out of context and used to construct a false narrative that we don’t care,” said Zuckerberg.  Haugen’s charges are so vague, so general, so subjective that make no sense that the company places profits over public safety.

           Haugen was especially critical of its posting on teenage girls, promoting body dysmorphic disorder, promoting certain images of fashionable bodies that, according to Haugen, promotes destructive personal images for teenage girls.  When you consider society at large, all young-or-older people are subjected to Madison Aveue advertising that promotes thinness over more bulky body images.  Haugen thinks Facebook cares only about profits not the well-being of teenage girls, something so preposterous, so off-the-wall, so overly nefarious.  “It’s clear Facebook prioritizes profit over well-being of children and all users,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn, spewing useless platitudes about Facebook. “Facebook chooses to mislead and misdirect. Facebook has not earned our blind faith,” Haugen said, making no sense at all.  Haugen wants Congress to jump to unwarranted conclusions.

           Based on Haugen’s testimony, it’s clear that she has an ax to grind, much like Blasey Ford who allowed Congress to use her testimony to sabotage Kavanaugh’s nomination.  Whatever happened with Haugen’s work as a data analysis, it’s clear that she’s exploited by members of Congress that have an ax to grind against Zuckerberg and the tech giant.  Accusing Facebook of using an “algorithm” to addict young girls is preposterous, catering to the kind of paranoia that led Facebook and Twitter to ban former President Donald Trump.  Whatever problems teenage girls have with anorexia or other eating disorders hand nothing to do with Facebook’s algorithms but the kindof normal development problems associated with teen years.  Attributing some nefarious motive to Facebook does nothing to explain the kind of developmental problems that parents need to address with their children,

           Congress needs to stop playing politics when it comes to hearing from so-called whistleblowers, where it’s about Facebook,  Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh or former President Donald Trump.  Using whistleblowers has morphed into another political witch hunt, exploited by he opposing parties to retaliate and score political points. Saying Facebook helps addict teenage girls to promote anorexia or other eating disorders is preposterous.  Instead of blaming social networks, Congress should look at itself how it exploits various causes to advance political agenda. Whatever Haugen’s beef with Facebook, it shouldn’t waste time in Congress or be used to advance political agendas.  Whistleblower laws must be changed to rule out political exploitation.  Haugen’s statements to Congress are so self-serving they don’t deserve airtime.
