YESSS i had actually been wondering this, im so glad someone else asked !!!
STTMH question:
does killing Classic give someone exp? he respawns, after all.
This one took me a bit because I had to sit down and think about it! The short answer is yes, it would give EXP. The way I view EXP is killing with harmful intent mixed with the perception of the killing. If the person/monster perceives their kill as successful, then their soul would increase in EXP.
Here's a hypothetical: If an outcode killed someone in a universe that later reset, would that individual lose the EXP gained? I answered this as no, as EXP is a stat stored in the soul, and would not be connected to another monster/human other than itself. Therefore, EXP relies on as much as the actual killing as the knowledge that they killed.
Fun note: I have a doc I haven't touched for a bit where I did a bunch of brainstorming for the stats I was going to use (hidden and not) plus how they would work in STTMH, and your question was one I had on there!

Note
Ok but for real how do you manage to get so many E2, I am battling like crazy for the exp and money and of course the sanity that it takes. Is it a work of patience or you just go slavedriver like good old Admiral Drimito
It never becomes a trivial process like “Oh, I just have Infinite Of Every Relevant Resource In My Stash, I can just max out any unit the moment I roll them”, but it does become a faster process as you accrue strength and have access to more maps. For instance, Chapter 4 and 5 unlock plenty of maps in which you can farm Tier 3 materials with a chance of Tier 4 of the same material instead of just Tier 3. Down the line, you ARE going to get a good amount of T4 drops while getting T3s either because you need them or because you are getting them to Workshop them into T4s, significantly cutting down Mats Gathering Time.
Regarding Money And Experience, you have some options here:
I tend to run 4 Factories and 2 Trading Posts. I’ll go ham on making Gold Bars until I’m in the 150s of surplus, then switch all Factories to Gold EXP for a few days. Then I go back to gathering materials and let those build up naturally. Making 200-300k like this takes but a few days.
If I need money in a hurry, then I turn a Factory into a Trading Post (something I’m experimenting with and that has given favorable results, since downgrading returns all materials needed sans Drones) and turn those bars into tangible assets faster while I run EXP5 or get more mats.
Either way, it shouldn’t take long to accumulate what you need, just be sure to always be building towards something so you don’t waste time and/or think “MAN I CANNOT WAIT TO E2 THIS BOZZO”, just keep building one way or another, gathering mats for them or another character, stockpiling EXP (you’ll never have enough so might as well just get as much as possible) and you’ll have enough.
Now, this is more of a personal tip thing, you see what you do with it, but I’d say get to a pretty comfortable power baseline before focusing on E2. What I did was get everyone I use (sans Shifters who can always afford to be lower level) to E1 Lv.50, and THEN I started focusing on E2ing people one by one. It’s not a big jump to take anyone from E1L50 to their cap, and it’s a good baseline level to challenge practically all content as you become stronger. It honestly becomes much faster once you lay down the groundwork across your units and then go one by one from there.
Lastly but definitely worth mentioning is that I am what today’s youth refers to as a dolphin, since I do buy the monthly card and don’t mind buying some nuggets to turn into Sanity aside from it (someone’s gonna say ”but you could be using those to roll!” shut up I don’t really roll that much, I wanna play tower defense), which obviously expedites the process, but even without these, it doesn’t take terribly long to E2 units one by one with the method detailed above (getting everyone to a baseline of E1L50 and going one by one from there)

Part two of everyone’s BiS- AA
There’s no easy way to say this but a lot of optimized AA is either gear lab or research, if you saved your combat data packs (please please PLEASE do NOT use these on PR exp just grind some ships I know it’s painful but prototype cores are infinitely more useful) You can pick up a couple staples that you can use on your aa carries or particularly needing (read poor aa) ships
Anti Air guns are split up into three types- Damage, Acceleration and buffsticks
Damages are pretty self explanatory, you put these on high efficiency aa ships (Cheshire, Seattle, San Diego, Akashi |dm me if you’d like a rundown on why she’s here|) and shred planes, this is done with mainly sexy bofors
Tumblr media
If you saved data packs you can purchase these from the proto store but we’re not here for the nice stuff we’re here for poor people
For manual you want Pom-Poms
Tumblr media
(Can be farmed from 7-1 or be found in Royal Navy t4 tech boxes)
For auto you want roombas
Tumblr media
(7-2 or RN T4 tech boxes)
For everyone else use quad bofors
Tumblr media
(5-4 or Eagle Union T4s)
The rest of this post will be goals to aim for since there aren’t any good accels or stat sticks that aren’t from either gear lab or research sorry, skip ahead if you’re just here for poverty builds
Accelators- let’s say you have a ship, nice beatstick maybe shimmy (accels are usually dds) who has massive hitting potential but their aa suffered heavily for it, well the good news is that AA is a team effort and everyone pitches in on fly swatting, the bad news is that means shimmy is bringing down the curve, but what she can do to help is she can use a gun that is weak but fast to make everyone else’s dakka go faster
Tumblr media
Gear lab
Tumblr media
Gear lab
Tumblr media
Proto shop series two or research (series two only, an easy pickup if you’re focusing freddy or azuma)
Statsticks- Main Fleet (backrow) AA, while important, is not nearly as important as their damage, as well as certain dds/beatstick vgs (Poikai, Agir, Khronshtadt, kitakaze, Suzutsuki etc) who have decent aa but tragically prefer violence (you don’t need AA if you kill the carrier quick enough) and as such prefer AA that give extra stats in certain areas that aren’t AA
Tumblr media
Stagg my beloved, extra 10 to hit- any backrow or larger vg (CAs CBs I wouldn’t go any lower then that ngl) will absolutely adore this, you can get the prints from basically every research but in my experience they’re pretty rare so give them to you favorites
Tumblr media
Hazemeyer, staags little sister- you can’t get them from pr1 research but any other is fair game, use these on anyone you wish had a staag (you can use them to make staags too in gear lab but :painpeko: just make something else)
Tumblr media
FP dds and certain large ships that don’t have staags can use maid aa, it has bonus to fp so funny numbers can be funnier (they’re gear lab but they’re not *horrible* to make and you only need like three or four in my experience)
Shoutout to @sillynightmarearbiter for the idea for this
So you’ve picked (back possibly) up Azur Lane, I get it, pngs are cute, it’s a generous gacha and the gameplay is refreshing for the usual turnbased gachas, it’s a home run in every way shape and form- You’re in deep (or at least you wanna try and be) but there’s one small issue, everyone is telling you BiS (best in slot) gear that takes OpSi or Research to get, research takes months and you need BiS gear to farm OpSi in any way that doesn’t take decades so what gives? Must you slog and suffer in the mines? Oomfie im here to tell you that 90% of people in this game who give decent advice have also been playing this game forever, the low level scene is alien to them- but fear not! Your beloved oomfie Smugg will pass you the deets on how to gear up your pngs like a pro without having to spend a decade looking up cheap strats, gimme a couple paragraphs of your time and you’ll be c6ing and meta 15ing in no time at all
Let’s start with a bit of a preface, this will take grinding- a lot of grinding, 10s of thousands of oil of grinding, the road to heaven is paved with violence but- rejoice, unlike old AL you no longer have to do it yourself! If you’re doing something that you can leave your phone on and press a button every once in a while by all means do it! I grind during viddy gaems, while I’m cleaning, anytime I’m not actively using my phone (which isn’t all that often ngl but) I’m always on the grind- you don’t need to go crazy and stupid like me but you get the idea. Enough cock rating, time for a taste test
Chapter one- baldi’s basics
I’m sure you’ve noticed certain ships share certain slots, every ship has Auxiliaries (shortened to auxs), Most ships have Main guns (shortened to mg), most Vanguard (vg) have torpedos (torps), and a whoooole lot have Anti Air guns (AA), Carriers (and light carriers) have Dive Bomber (DB), Torp Bombers (TB) and Fighters (don’t shorten this one idk why), a few of these share a BiS (remember best in slot, this one will be said a lot) so we’re gonna go over shared first
Torpedos :) -
Torps are classified in two different ways, either you’re willing to manual (control your funny little kansen) or you’re not (auto)- I will tell you now, top level play of this game is auto mostly, with a bit of manual for the hardest stuff you can find, don’t get caught up on the silly stuff, both are challenging in their own right if you know what you’re doing- For auto torps you’re going to want mags (magnetic), and I’m sure you’ve all heard the name Quintmags
Tumblr media
the crème de la crem, but tragically they’re locked behind gear lab, which takes OpSi, which takes good gear. I’m sure I know what you’re all thinking “oomfie if quintmags are the best don’t we just rarity down, the gold mags are easy to get” I like where your going with this but hold your horses, rainbow quintmags have much better tracking then their gold cousins, what you’re gonna want are gold quadmags
Tumblr media
They’ve got one less torp but are waaaay more likely to hit because they have a much more favorable spread (the angle at which they fire, will be used with a lot of weapons), best part? You can get them from IB tech boxes (and divergent chessboard warchives d1 if you’re really fiending), try and get as many of these as you can because these are your best friends till you get your quintmag. Now for manual; when you manual there are two types of ways to play torps, either you play passively and try to hit as many torps as you can if your boats aren’t particularly torpedo inclined, or you do a strategy called “face torping” where you find some good ships with excellent torp (shimakaze, ayanami, noshiro, jintsuu, Duca, naganami etc) and hood your torps till you’ve got them all saved up, wait for skills to proc if you need them (like helena or ayayas for example), then run up on the boss and nuke the fuck out of them, for passive play style the 533 is only outclassed by its gearlab counterparts
Tumblr media
While for face torping 610 quads (or quints if you played during shimmy event) are the way to go
