Pssst...hey... Alfred can't be "good" if Bruce is "bad"

If Bruce is written as abusive and obsessed with "the mission," then logistically, ya gotta write Alfred as an enabler/accessory to the abuse.

It is impossible for Alfred to be there throughout all Robins, be first witness for multiple years with multiple children "suffering" and still have the kids be like: "Oh well, Alfred is still an angel, though." They would've known he hadn't helped them.

Imagine a building is on fire, and someone just stands there and watches it. They didn't start it, but they also don't try to put it out. They don't help anyone get out. They don't even bother calling for help. Yet, they still get a medal for their bravery??

There would only be 2 ways that Alfred could be seen as a "loving grandfather" if he

1. Outright stops Bruce by confronting him directly or getting the kids out from the first sign of abuse.

2. If Bruce is at least a somewhat decent father. Sure, he can make mistakes, and he can fumble sometimes. But Bruce can not be actively harmful to the kids for years without Alfred being aware and choosing to leave the kids to fend for themselves.

Alfred would have to be written as a non questions asked, 100% dedicated to only a "True Wanye" kind of butler. He would have to see the kids as not real Wayne's to allow an abusive Bruce to continuously harm them. The kids would know this and hate BOTH of them.

It's also weird considering Kliener more blatantly says to fuck but Eli the only prominent black man in the series gets his words twisted into some weird vulgar statement about his daughter??

I want us to go back to when Jim Gordon's connection with Batman was legitimately a secret/seriously frowned down upon. Aside from legal reasons (Batman's not a cop and the affiliation opens up a whole can of legal worms), it makes for a more suspenseful backdrop to their interactions, goofy getaway scenarios and meeting locations. And later, when they include Harvey it'd be so much funnier to have him kidnapped from his office (with Harv's only reaction: "About time."). Now obviously the giant nightlight on the GCPD roof complicates this but they could really move that thing anywhere. Like Wayne Manor

I lauve Barney as much as the next guy but I do think we are overstating his significance in the story as a whole just a little bit

Okay so, I re-watched The Dark Knight and after this exchange between Jim and Harvey (and the amount of Duela Dent fic I've been writing) I had an angsty thought that I needed to inflict it on other people.

First, a few things.

It's implied Harvey and Rachel are sleeping together. In the restaurant scene, Harvey states "If I was sneaking out every night, someone would've noticed by now." And takes Rachel's hand, the cinematography showing and not telling us about their physical relationship.

Another thing is, during that dinner scene, she takes a drink of wine.

And yet a couple of days later, at the fundraiser, Rachel doesn't drink anything.

In fact, she's pretty much the only party guest we see (besides Bruce himself) not to have a drink in hand.

This is also the same night that Harvey pulls her aside to propose. What if these two details are related. Like say...Rachel being pregnant?

A pregnancy they only found out about recently. It's pretty early, and with everything else going on, it makes sense why they haven't told anyone yet. Maybe they were giving themselves time to let it sink in before deciding what to do about it--maybe Rachel wanted to go to the doctor and get a test done to know for sure.

But Harvey's excited. With this RICO case, they have a real chance of taking down the mob. And he might be becoming a father!

Except, Rachel is not the type of woman to get married just because she's pregnant. But Harvey's already head over heels in love with her (and worried about the insanely wealthy childhood best friend who clearly has feelings for Rachel) so what the hell, he may as well try.

Nothing's for certain yet. But they have time to figure things out.

Except they don't.

And Harvey loses his entire family before he has a chance to even have it.
