i think theres this idea in the general public that the "best" fanfic gets turned into real books like 50 shades of grey. but the truth is that the best fanfic can never be published as an actual book because its intricately woven into the canon material so its inseparable even if you change the names
#no shade (ha) to 50 shades. ive never actually read it so idk if its good#but imo the idea of creating an au fanfic thats so divorced from the original work is boring! why are you even making a fanfic atp#the only good fanfic is when you can tell the author loves the source material and uses it#the best fanfics ive ever read could never be published as actual books because it wouldnt work without the context of the original story

I'm knitting in the corner at a party
and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom.
I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me.
I'm knitting in the corner at a party and everyone knows where to find me when they need a minute, when socializing is too much and the music is too loud and they need to catch their breath. They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands.
The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.
#knitting#knitblr#poetry#tagging this with poetry feels ridiculous#but oh well#anyway this is a true story#or technically two true stories smushed into one#i sent this to one of the guys who hosted the party and he said “this is really nice” like twenty times#and then he thanked me again for helping to curate the vibe#anyway i feel like those of us who do it know the kind of impact that knitting in public can have#but i guess it wasn't until i was reflecting on this party that i realized it could be used to create a safe space#if you will#okay that's enough tags#anyway i hope you enjoy#bon appetit#etc#UNEDITED BTW SO BE NICE#please

I don't have the words for this but. Art and science are always hand in hand.
The perfectionism of artists has them researching stuff in a way that only scientists can compare. Some artists become experts in biology or anatomy. Other special interests have them going down rabbit holes to make them better at their art.
Disney animators said "we are perfecting the code for this snow if it kills us" and researched and invented code until it acted like real snow in Frozen and snow scientists were like hey. Did we just fucking solve the Dyatlov Pass mystery. And the animators answered no. We made snow. YOU applied the knowledge and did the experiments to solve what could have happened at Dyatlov Pass.
And it was a team effort because of course it was. You can't have art without science. And you can't have science without art.
#art#science#anyway please start writing stories where an artist and a scientist are best friends#but it's the artist who is completely unhinged about creating the perfect thing#and the scientist is the one going 'i need you to take a breath and instead of asking can i do this ask SHOULD i do this'

Happy one year anniversary to In Stars and Time!
#ISAT#in stars and time#siffrin#loop#I truly mean it when I say that this was the best game I have played since Disco Elysium.#It pulls off some of the best examples of Ludonarritive Harmony in a video game...possibly ever?#Not to mention just...wow. What a great story. What a tale of twists and introspection. What a tale about the need for home and connection#I know many of you have trusted me before with media recommendations. Trust me one more time.#Do you want to experience the torment of being in a timeloop? And *still* have fun and feel like your time is being respected?#PLAY IN STARS AND TIME!#Do you yearn for complex characters and love unravelling mysteries? PLAY IN STARS AND TIME!!!!#Please heed the content warnings; I took them a little too lightly on my playthrough! They are there for a reason! Don't be like me!#This game means a lot to me and so many others. On the small chance the dev sees this (they are on tumblr after all):#Thank you so much for all your hard work in creating this game and seeing the project through.#It has been a year for us fans but many years for you. So thank you!#I hope it has been a joyful year for you! Watching as people descend into shrieks of agony from playing your game.#It's good! It made me vomit blood. I had so much fun! I felt like I was torturing the protagonist when I played it. I loved it! I cried.

another thing fantasy writers should keep track of is how much of their worldbuilding is aesthetic-based. it's not unlike the sci-fi hardness scale, which measures how closely a story holds to known, real principles of science. The Martian is extremely hard sci-fi, with nearly every detail being grounded in realistic fact as we know it; Star Trek is extremely soft sci-fi, with a vaguely plausible "space travel and no resource scarcity" premise used as a foundation for the wildest ideas the writers' room could come up with. and much as Star Trek fuckin rules, there's nothing wrong with aesthetic-based fantasy worldbuilding!
(sidenote we're not calling this 'soft fantasy' bc there's already a hard/soft divide in fantasy: hard magic follows consistent rules, like "earthbenders can always and only bend earth", and soft magic follows vague rules that often just ~feel right~, like the Force. this frankly kinda maps, but I'm not talking about just the magic, I'm talking about the worldbuilding as a whole.
actually for the purposes of this post we're calling it grounded vs airy fantasy, bc that's succinct and sounds cool.)
a great example of grounded fantasy is Dungeon Meshi: the dungeon ecosystem is meticulously thought out, the plot is driven by the very realistic need to eat well while adventuring, the story touches on both social and psychological effects of the whole 'no one dies forever down here' situation, the list goes on. the worldbuilding wants to be engaged with on a mechanical level and it rewards that engagement.
deliberately airy fantasy is less common, because in a funny way it's much harder to do. people tend to like explanations. it takes skill to pull off "the world is this way because I said so." Narnia manages: these kids fall into a magic world through the back of a wardrobe, befriend talking beavers who drink tea, get weapons from Santa Claus, dance with Bacchus and his maenads, and sail to the edge of the world, without ever breaking suspension of disbelief. it works because every new thing that happens fits the vibes. it's all just vibes! engaging with the worldbuilding on a mechanical level wouldn't just be futile, it'd be missing the point entirely.
the reason I started off calling this aesthetic-based is that an airy story will usually lean hard on an existing aesthetic, ideally one that's widely known by the target audience. Lewis was drawing on fables, fairy tales, myths, children's stories, and the vague idea of ~medieval europe~ that is to this day our most generic fantasy setting. when a prince falls in love with a fallen star, when there are giants who welcome lost children warmly and fatten them up for the feast, it all fits because these are things we'd expect to find in this story. none of this jars against what we've already seen.
and the point of it is to be wondrous and whimsical, to set the tone for the story Lewis wants to tell. and it does a great job! the airy worldbuilding serves the purposes of the story, and it's no less elegant than Ryōko Kui's elaborately grounded dungeon. neither kind of worldbuilding is better than the other.
however.
you do have to know which one you're doing.
the whole reason I'm writing this is that I saw yet another long, entertaining post dragging GRRM for absolute filth. asoiaf is a fun one because on some axes it's pretty grounded (political fuck-around-and-find-out, rumors spread farther than fact, fastest way to lose a war is to let your people starve, etc), but on others it's entirely airy (some people have magic Just Cause, the various peoples are each based on an aesthetic/stereotype/cliché with no real thought to how they influence each other as neighbors, the super-long seasons have no effect on ecology, etc).
and again! none of this is actually bad! (well ok some of those stereotypes are quite bigoted. but other than that this isn't bad.) there's nothing wrong with the season thing being there to highlight how the nobles are focused on short-sighted wars for power instead of storing up resources for the extremely dangerous and inevitable winter, that's a nice allegory, and the looming threat of many harsh years set the narrative tone. and you can always mix and match airy and grounded worldbuilding – everyone does it, frankly it's a necessity, because sooner or later the answer to every worldbuilding question is "because the author wanted it to be that way." the only completely grounded writing is nonfiction.
the problem is when you pretend that your entirely airy worldbuilding is actually super duper grounded. like, for instance, claiming that your vibes-based depiction of Medieval Europe (Gritty Edition) is completely historical, and then never even showing anyone spinning. or sniffing dismissively at Tolkien for not detailing Aragorn's tax policy, and then never addressing how a pre-industrial grain-based agricultural society is going years without harvesting any crops. (stored grain goes bad! you can't even mouse-proof your silos, how are you going to deal with mold?) and the list goes on.
the man went up on national television and invited us to engage with his worldbuilding mechanically, and then if you actually do that, it shatters like spun sugar under the pressure. doesn't he realize that's not the part of the story that's load-bearing! he should've directed our focus to the political machinations and extensive trope deconstruction, not the handwavey bit.
point is, as a fantasy writer there will always be some amount of your worldbuilding that boils down to 'because I said so,' and there's nothing wrong with that. nor is there anything wrong with making that your whole thing – airy worldbuilding can be beautiful and inspiring. but you have to be aware of what you're doing, because if you ask your readers to engage with the worldbuilding in gritty mechanical detail, you had better have some actual mechanics to show them.
#finx rambles#worldbuilding#for writers#honestly I quite liked the asoiaf books I read#it's a well-constructed story! it's a well-constructed world too on its own merits#none of this stuff about grain and spinning is actually important to the story#the problem is that grrm himself seems to just. not realize this#and goes about blithely insisting he's created an extraordinarily realistic fantasy world where all the tax policies make sense#he has not!#he has invited people to tear his creation apart if they can and! it turns out! they absolutely can!#this shit's got no tensile strength! it's made of glue and popsicle sticks!#you're not supposed to put weight on it

Future Son????
It has been a while since I have done an original prompt. So DCxDP prompt #2
Danny gets into a fight with Impulse/Bart about Bart changing the timeline messing things up for Danny and effectively erasing his family, because the change made it so Maddie and Jack never got together. But because of Clockwork sending him on a mission to the past while Bart changed the timeline and the medallion Dan had phased into Danny he remembers the old timeline. Also he has access to his powers but for some reason can’t change into ghost form.
This fight happens in front of the rest of the young justice team. And Nightwing was coming there to teach a training lesson and over hears half of what Danny is shouting.
From Dick’s point of view there is a black haired, blue eyed kid with powers that are suspiciously like a Tamuraneans, yelling at Bart about losing his family because his parents never got together. Also Dick and Kori had recently broken up. (Feel free to make up a reason.)
Due to a misunderstanding Dick is going to help his time displaced “son” adjust to the new reality.

“Why does [blank] happen when I think [blank]?”
BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT CONSISTENT.
When I say that I don’t mean constantly affirming, I mean consistently thinking that. When you have a clear idea, that should be the only thing you see in that narrow tunnel. Meaning, the only thing you should believe.
“I have long luscious hair”
Then why do you always look so sad and unhappy when you look at yourself. You believe you have long hair right? THEN ACT LIKE IT.
“I don’t have school tomorrow”
Then why do you keep stressing out about that test tomorrow or visualizing all the work you’ll have to do. If you don’t have school tomorrow, you should be feeling relax.
Like baby you not getting no answer because you’re not being clear. If I’m consistently thinking two contradicting ideas, which one do you think will be answered? NEITHER!

The whole Mooneye team and Kyle Banks were some really busy bees in the last few weeks and worked very hard to get our fluffy friend Chesley ready for his big debut!
So with excitement we are happy to finally be able to say the magic words:
🥳 FAREWELL NORTH IS OUT NOW! 🥳
Restore color to the desolate islands of Farewell North, an atmospheric journey where you play as a border collie on an adventure with your human. Explore land and sea, uncover hidden paths and free wildlife to bring color back to her world, while revealing an emotional story about saying farewell. ---
It’s been quite a journey for us too and we are so happy that we can finally share this wonderful project with everybody. We can’t wait to hear from your experiences and thoughts and we really hope you’ll enjoy this wholesome, yet emotional adventure with Chesley and Cailey 🐾
Ah, and if you played the game, please consider leaving a review on Steam since it supports the game and everybody who worked on it tremendously ❤️
#GOOD BOI GAME IS HERE#indiegame#indiedev#farewell north#gaming#wholesomegame#thank you so much for all the support we received so far ❤️#and a big applause to the dev Kyle Banks for creating such a wonderful and beautiful game#with a story that made me ugly cry even after the 10th playtest run

you could have your desires by now.
just think about it. remember when you joined loablr- was it days? weeks? months? years??
imagine if after the first post you saw that "really made it click for you", you just stopped scrolling. you stopped looking for success stories, informative posts, etc etc, and you started applying the law. you would probably be living your dream life right now.
but instead, you stay on loablr and delude yourself into thinking you're "looking for the key to loa", when in reality, you're just lazy and you don't want to apply!
"b-but i can't manifest! i have intrusive thoughts and difficult circumstances and should i use states or a&p and do i have to believe it and which technique should i use and i-"
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!! you're making this SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT HAS TO BE!!!
this post is calling out everyone who's said stuff like that. this post is a sign to LOG TF OUT OF TUMBLR AND GET YOUR DESIRES!! You know what to do and how to apply, so WHY THE HELL AREN'T YOU DOING IT?!
and i don't want to hear anybody going "well, i got off tumblr and persisted for a week, but i still don't have my desires!" THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM- YOU KEEP LOOKING FOR YOUR DESIRES IN THE 3D.
When are you gonna realize that when people say "persist in the 4d and understand that the 3d is irrelevant", THEY MEAN IT! FOCUS ON THE 4D!! STOP SAYING "i'm persisting in the 4d but i still don't have my desires? where are they?" IF YOU WERE ACTUALLY PERSISTING IN THE 4D, YOU WOULDN'T BE LOOKING FOR RESULTS IN THE 3D- YOU WOULD BE SATISFIED WITH IMAGINATION.
again, get off of tumblr. don't say "ok well i'm just gonna scroll for a little bit longer 🤪" i'm serious, get off of tumblr. screenshot 1 or 2 posts that really make you understand the law, then apply it!
xoxo, your fav stargirl aaliyah

There’s honestly something so poetic about Wendell and Usha both having this big moment of confronting their alter egos,
but while Wendell is learning how to become one with his persona, Usha is slowly being taken over by hers.
#literally my favorite point I. the episode was watching them all create this part of the story#with the whole g13 taking over thing#the way that they slowly built off of eachother and got to a point of deciding g13s goal was to be the one who gets to leave#and go out to the real world#god I love seeing people create stories in real time#dimension 20#nsbu#never stop blowing up#dropout#nsbu spoilers

The way Orv will dangle the basic premise in front of you like a set of keys and have you going "Ha! So Joonghyuk is the novel's protagonist but Dokja is OUR main character." and you're so busy enjoying that layer of meta text that you don't notice their other hand winding up the Han Sooyoung hammer to whack you with.
#Orv#Orv rambles#It's so good it's so funny#She doesn't exist for the first like 30 chapters. And she writes the whole thing#It's a love letter from her to Dokja using Joonghyuk#And yet it all unfolds so slowly she's just a little guy. A little fella. A ruthless little asshole.#And then boom surprise she is the past the present and the future the reason this story exists#The reason Dokja is alive the reason Yoo Joonghyuk was created#Dokja's life starts being born in normal reality. Yjh's life begins when HSY writes him#HSY created herself. She's the chicken and egg a perfect loop with no end point#She IS the story in every sense

It's so interesting to me that Slay the Princess is the kind of art that leaves little room for structured interpretation of the text because it's so good at exploring what is it about (almost everything you want to say about it is already in the text! just go play it again), while easily supporting a lot of derivative reimaginings, remixes and fanworks.
#eng#fandomposting#slay the princess#i haven't checked out ao3 but it's just so natural to build on preexisting routes and branchings to create adjacent stories#& yet so hard to talk about it without simply repeating what the game more or less explicitly says#or maybe i just need to let it stew for longer. who knows
