We talk a lot about raising the minimum wage and yes obviously that should have happened like a decade ago but it's also about more than that. I didn't quit my retail job because it didn't pay enough. I quit because they had me work Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve night, 6am on the 26th, New Year's Eve night, and 6am on New Year's Day. For all of that year I simply did not get a holiday season. I got time and half for some of these days but not for most. I was not thanked for this in any other way.
Then, on the morning of Jan 2nd, I find out that a coworker tested positive for covid but I "could still come in to work." This was early January of 2021 and vaccines didn't exist yet. I said I would not be coming into work. Five more people tested positive that week. I was told to come into work. I said no. They said okay, use your vacation time. So I used up all of my vacation time (a luxury that most retail workers don't get, and one that had been keeping me at that job) and then quit on the spot.
I was not making a lot of money, but California's minimum wage at that time was about double the national minimum and I was putting a roof over my head. But I still quit.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the way you treat your employees means a lot too, not just the pay. This doesn't mean you can win them over with a pizza party, but it means that things like flexible schedules and not being a dick about illness go a long way. I don't just want minimum wage workers to have a living wage, I would also like them to be treated as people with lives and problems and needs.

I hate the holidays so much. My depression is already bad, but the holiday season just amplifies it.
Thanksgiving 2020, my mom and I prepared a meal for me and her and my dad. We were still in the middle of COVID, she had been receiving chemo treatments since summer of that year, but she had stage 4 cancer so there was no cure. We laughed our way through preparations though because neither of us had actually ever cooked a turkey before.
I remember giving her a hug. We were talking about what we would do differently for Thanksgiving 2021 (like getting a Honey Baked Ham instead of a turkey), and then she told me she didn't think she would be around anymore by the time Thanksgiving rolled around again. I told her not to think like that. It was impossible for me to imagine a world without my mom in it.
A month later I had to take her to the ER because she was having trouble walking. She went into the hospital the day before Christmas Eve, and a month later I had to say goodbye to her. She never came home again.
My brother and sister flew out when she was admitted into the hospital, but it was still in the midst of COVID and we couldn't spend time with her. She was in triage for three days before they finally found a room for her in the ICU.
The cancer was in her lungs (she never smoked a day in her life), in her spine, and it was spreading like wildfire throughout her brain. There were two weeks where she was in the hospital and we didn't get to see her once because of how rampant COVID was (and the people who fucking refused to take the pandemic seriously).
They had to intubate her because she stopped breathing on her own, and then finally we learned that there was nothing else they could do for her, so she ended up in hospice.
Christmas and New Years was spent worrying about my mom and being upset because we couldn't sit with her in the hospital. My mom spent about two weeks in hospice after that, and I stayed with her as much as I possibly could.
She passed away on a night I was unable to stay, in the final days of January 2021. Exactly one month before my sister's birthday and just a little over a month before my 40th birthday. It never occurred to me that she wouldn't get to live long enough to see me reach 40.
My sister's kids didn't get to fly out to visit my mom because my sister, a single mom, wasn't able to afford plane tickets for all three of them. She couldn't even get the time off work to stay out here with us for a full 24 hours.
And now my sister's former mother-in-law has stage 4 cancer, so the kids are about to lose their only other grandmother to an aggressive form of cancer as well. It hasn't even been a week since we learned this information.
It was 19 degrees outside the day we had my mom's funeral, but this same woman stood next to me while we watched them lower my mom's casket into the ground, with her arms wrapped around me, to give me some small amount of comfort on one of the worst days of my life.
And she's been cursed with a fate just as cruel as my mom's.
I feel so small. I'm broke and jobless and feel like an entirely worthless human being because my depression and anxiety are so bad right now that I can't even function like a person is supposed to.
I'm months away from turning 43 and all I can think about is how much I really want my mom right now.
#personal#i'll probably delete this later#i'm a hot fucking mess right now and feeling so alone#tw: death#tw: depression#i just want to scream at the top of my lungs#i want to write but my brain won't allow it#i want to rp but i have no one to write with#the holiday season sucks#i'm tired of existing but i continue to do so anyway

⚠️ Want all to be aware there is more to GA Family, née GAC, than G-rated Christmas movies. Though I’m including dates and details here in the spirit of being a completist, worth noting the funding and founding of this channel, which comes from the Donald Trump-aligned Hicks Equity Group, brings with it an explicit anti-diversity agenda, hiding under guise of harmless sounding words like “family-friendly” and “safe” programming. More detailed explanation here (bottom of page), and additional more recent thoughts, for those who want it. And if you’re looking for outside sources on GAF’s political affiliations and lack of inclusion, see these stories from The Daily Beast, Vulture, the L.A. Times and Bloomberg.

…Biden might, in the words of his New Year’s Eve interviewer Ryan Seacrest, “enjoy two scoops of ice cream” to kick off his New Year, but his constituents would need at least an extra $11,434 to “afford the basics” as they did at the beginning of 2021.
In reality, a majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, making it more difficult to purchase luxuries like a nice Thanksgiving dinner, Independence Day BBQ, Christmas gifts, and even ice cream.

The sweatshirt that says “Oklahoma Christmas” also says 2021 at the bottom under the word Christmas so I guess they gave them to everyone last year when they went to OK the week before Christmas and then back to LA by Christmas Eve. I remember Todd’s family went along then with them.
Ask 2:
That don’t always spend Christmas in Oklahoma, they should have made Oklahoma Thanksgiving ranch shirts instead!

Some 2022 Reflections
I had a lot of accomplishments, chaos, and defining moments in 2022.
I came out to my family in March. This was by far the hardest part of the year and something that will continue to affect me for a bit. I am proud of myself for doing this even if the weight is still heavy. Im hoping I’ll see more of the benefits of this in 2023.
M and I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment in August!! I finally have an office room and it’s cut down my stress being able to close the door when the day is done. My daily routine feels a little more structured.
I started grad school in August. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time, but life kept getting in the way. I’m very thankful that M is supportive on this decision and really helped me during the transition to full time school. I’m feeling more settled after this semester.
I transferred to a closer work location in August. This has also cut down on stress because half my day isn’t taken over my driving anymore. It took a bit to get acclimated, but (for a job I don’t like) I really enjoy working in this county vs the old one. It’s so much more structured. (Can you tell I thrive on structure? Haha)
I overcame my anxiety and flew alone again in September. This was huge after the huge panic attack I had in the airport October 2021. My anxiety has been so much more under control this year and I’m so glad I started medication.
I got married to M in November 🥰 I couldn’t imagine anyone better by my side and im glad we got to celebrate with those who fully support our marriage and who we are as individuals and as a couple.
I survived the holidays and I didn’t isolate myself. I really did not think I was going to be around anyone on thanksgiving and Christmas, but I tried my best to be thankful for the family I do have that is supportive of M and me. There were a lot of breakdowns, but I suppose that’s normal. We are ending 2022 with a mini get away trip just the two of us, so I’m happy with that :)
I made it most of the year without relapsing into harmful coping skills. I’m giving myself some grace for the end of the year because the holidays intensify emotions. I went on like, a week bender of drinking way too much intentionally, but I’m feeling a lot better now that Christmas is over. Like, I figured I’d be drunk all day Christmas Eve and even through to today, but I was able to tell myself no and now I’m back to not really having the urge. I am sad I self harmed in November, but I tend to bounce back from that easier than the drinking. amidst the bad coping skills, I’d say 90% of the time I was using healthy coping skills. Even my self talk is gentle the majority of the time. I need to focus more on the positive times than the negative because I really think overall, I did so much better at coping this year.
I think I learned a lot about myself and my needs this year. I’m still no where I want to be emotionally and I think I struggled more with emotional outbursts this year than last year, but I think I can finally identify where a lot of it is coming from…and honestly I think it has a lot to do with my parents and how I was raised. This is another topic for another day, but this was a big breakthrough moment for me. I’ve also learned more about how to ask for what I need when I’m feeling overwhelmed. It’s still a work in progress, but I think I’m getting there.
Overall, the year was not what I had hoped for, but it gave me the growth I needed. Hoping to take these skills into 2023 and continue working on this self healing journey

25. What are some of your family traditions?
Bathing would hardly be thought of as a tradition by any standard but the ritual when I was young was worth including in this category. We did not have running water or indoor plumbing in Sioux Lookout until I was probably more than six years old. Prior to that time bathing happened faithfully every Saturday evening. We had a large oval tin tub that was
placed beside the wood stove in the kitchen and buckets of warm water were added. Expedience was paramount as my brothers bathed in the same water after me, Each had some warm water added for comfort. In summer we were often sent down to the lake with a bar of soap, facecloth and towel. I think I was about seven or eight years old when sewer and water lines came to Wellington Street. That was a most welcome change to our old bathing tradition.
A far more enjoyable custom was our Sunday ritual with our Dad. We would all walk to Fasano’s Candy Store and with our five cents each to spend we bought 10 or 15 candies each. It was wartime. Sugar was rationed so it was a special treat. We then walked to the Rexall Drug Store where Daddy bought the Sunday News. The only part that interested us was the full page comic about the Teenie Weenies which was read to us much to our delight. Once we started school, going to church was added to our Sunday routine and I cannot remember when the Teenie Weenies became history.
One tradition we kept for many years was going to midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. We tried very hard to stay awake until time to go to church. The year my brother Michael was about nineteen months old we all went to Mass. Michael was an adventurous boy and kept escaping our grip and was scurrying under the pews and would pop up a few rows ahead or back of where we were seated. My older brothers and I were sent to fetch him completely overcome with giggles. Our mother threatened us with promises of a good beating when we got home. We got through the Mass and I think my Dad interceded for us. He too saw the humor in the situation and we were spared the promised discipline.
My Mom was a very good cook and we always had a Sunday dinner with a roast or chicken. There were always mashed potatoes and they were always set on the table in the very same dish. This dish matched no other dishes on the able. It is a cream colored bowl with a gold edge. There are four scenes of an elegant couple in fine formal dress standing in front of a thatched cottage. The bottom of the bowl says, “English Ware,” “Lancaster Ltd.”, “Hanley England.” I’m sure it is of no monetary value but it is one of the very few things I have that I remember well from earliest childhood.
Last year, 2021, reestablished a tradition I had begun years ago when my grandchildren were young. Robin had given me a gingerbread house mold and I decided to put it to good use. I lived on the farm in Warner at the time and the small studio down by the river was perfect for gingerbread house making. It had a wood stove and plenty of work surface. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving I would bake four gingerbread houses and the grandchildren would display incredible ingenuity in decorating them. After Kalote and Will were born they too decorated a house. The property had a variety of pines and I cut boughs and bought Christmas ribbon and the adults made wreaths and swags and the grandchildren did their houses. I made a pot of chili that stayed hot on the wood stove. Those were great times and wonderful memories. Harry made a great replica of Hogwarts one year. The girls went for elegance and the boys not so much. After the houses and wreaths were done we gathered in the big house and celebrated Will and Kalote’s birthday with cake and ice cream. In December of 2021 we reestablished the gingerbread house tradition. Will and Kalote were good enough sports to join Joanie and Everett for their first houses. This year I was back up to six houses as Murphy and Laura joined the party and Will and Kalote again anchored the project. I hope Anne will carry on the tradition.
We are now scattered far and wide. Heather and John live in South Carolina as does Robin. Jaylyn, Merton and Will are in Harvard, MA. Peter lives in Windham. Hillary and David are in Chelsea, MA. Harry and Rachel live in Philadelphia, PA. Anne and Dan live in Lowell, MA and Digger is in Tottenham, England. Kalote is in Brighton, MA. I alone live in Concord, NH and pine for the days when there were lots of little creative people running around doing wonderfully interesting things.

- frankie began calling prim “prim” after her obsession with the movie and book franchise, but also bc she had mentioned offhandedly what the flower meant

- in the event she can’t make a home game bc of a meet, or if it’s a road game, prim will listen to the game if she’s unable to watch, or watch directly on ahl.tv (frankie was not happy that she spends an ungodly amount of money to watch them play)
- frankie calls prim his good luck charm, and wears a small resin sealed primrose flower nestled next to his cross
- frankie always makes an effort to watch prim when he’s free (absolutely mesmerized by how fast she can sprint)
- consistently work out together
- frankie’s coach has had prim work out with everyone on the team to help strengthen them
- frankie and prim don’t go public with anyone except their family until christmas eve where frankie posts pictures of him and his family with prim and her family celebrating at his home in canada (everyone was in disbelief)
- once they’re public, frankie is a little more active on social media posting stories with prim, or just posts of them together in general
- prim is more active on social media, and thus kings fans, reign fans, and fan girls alike flock to get content from you about their favorite players

What Time Does the Stock Market Open in California?
Whether you are new to trading or are an experienced trader, you are bound to have questions about how to get the best trading hours. The answer to this question can be a bit confusing. There are different time periods for Pre-market trading, After-hours trading and even holiday trading. In this article we will explore all the different aspects of trading and explain the timings for all the different trading hours in California.
Pre-market trading
Traders have the ability to trade outside the regular hours of the stock market. However, trading outside the regular hours carries a number of risks. These risks include lower volume and price volatility. Traders can also face computer glitches and missed opportunities.
The US stock market opens on Monday through Friday at 9:30 AM EST. It is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve. The market opens again on Labor Day, the first Monday in September. In addition, several scheduled half-days close the market at 1:00 PM.
In addition to the regular hours of the stock market, there are pre-market and after hours trading sessions. These are important to some investors. These sessions give them access to major news announcements before the exchange opens.
These sessions are very popular because they provide investors with the opportunity to react quickly to new news. However, trading outside of the regular hours requires a considerable amount of education and knowledge. The risks associated with extended hours trading can also be significant.
After-hours trading
During the after-hours trading session, traders can react quickly to new information, and make trades in response to breaking news. This market is not for beginners, as it can be very volatile.
After-hours trading is possible because of electronic communication networks (ECNs). These networks are designed to match up buyers and sellers without the need for a traditional stock exchange. These networks are much more efficient than their traditional counterparts.
After-hours trading is best suited for experienced traders who have a high tolerance for risk. A trader may have a long position in a stock that has increased in value, but is willing to take the risk of paying a lower price for the stock in order to close out the position at a loss.
After-hours trading is also convenient for those who live in different time zones. It is often possible to trade stocks at a better price the next day. However, this type of trading is usually limited to certain stocks.
Holidays observed
Whether you're looking to buy or sell stocks, you probably want to know when the stock market opens in California. There are many variables to consider, so this article will highlight one of the main US exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
NYSE and Nasdaq will both be closed on Thanksgiving. The NYSE is also closed on New Year's Day, but the Nasdaq will be open on New Year's Eve.
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the main US exchange, and it's open Monday through Friday. It is typically open from 9:30 AM to 4 PM Eastern Time. It may also close early on certain holidays.
The NYSE and Nasdaq close early on the day after Thanksgiving. They are also closed on Christmas Eve. However, both exchanges will close at 1 PM on the day after Christmas Eve.
The Federal Reserve System observes Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day, but does not observe Good Friday. It does not observe New Year's Day, but the stock market will be open on December 31, 2021.
Crypto markets are a global market
Earlier in the year, the total value of the world's crypto assets jumped to over $3 trillion, a 20-fold increase from last year. The market was awash with activity as millions of consumers were able to access digital currencies. The value of the market continued to soar until central bank interest rates began to rise in June. But with the Fed's move away from record low interest rates, the crypto industry had its worst month in years.
The financial sector appeared to be insulated from the sharp movements. However, as the price of bitcoin fell below $15,900, investors were understandably nervous. In fact, the FTX exchange has experienced a lot of problems recently, as users began pulling out money from the platform. After a thorough review, the Binance exchange decided to pull out of the FTX exchange, as it said reports showed that the exchange was not properly handling customer funds.
