the wind whipped the sails, ropes pulled taunt against the onslaught as it carried the ship over the water. the ship rocked, bobbing in and out of the water as waves lapped at its sides and rook stared as zahav seemed to dance across the deck with deceptive ease.

he seemed able to predict exactly when and where the waves would hit to knock a less practiced sailor's feet from under them. the grace and fluidity of his movements were enviable as rook clung to the side of the ship with a white knuckled grip. being on open water, rook had realized quickly, was nothing like the canal gondolas of treviso, nor the river aravels of the dalish, or even the crossroads canoe. there was an intensity that he hadn't expected, and it was thrilling.
