A Sweetheart Analysis because she might have a god complex

In-game, Sweetheart has always been a narcissist. She literally tries to marry herself, calling herself perfect and beautiful. It's a huge part of her character and personality, Sweetheart clearly believing that she's superior to everyone else, but another part is her laugh. And it was while looking at her laugh that I came upon a realisation:

Sweetheart has a god complex.

Now, I am by no means a psychological expert, but by researching it, I found that some typical traits of a god complex- often associated with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)- were:

Extreme entitlement

Arrogance

An inability to take responsibility

Believing in their superiority to others

An alarming lack of empathy for others

An inflated sense of self-importance

A conviction that one is infallible (See sites such as verywellmind for evidence)

And Sweetheart exhibits all of these throughout the course of Omori. She believes that Hero is obligated to fall in love with and marry her, outraged when he doesn't and saying that the idea is preposterous. She locks Hero and Rococo away when they refuse her/break up, and has a special cell made for Spaceboy after they seperate, refusing to accept responsibility for the falling-apart relationships and completely uncaring of how this affected them. She constantly compliments herself, taking self-love to its extremes as she tries to marry herself and later clones of herself. She's flabbergasted when she loses to Omori and co. in their fight, disbelieving and in denial. Her deepest desires are manifested into a castle where she has everything, from films made about her to an endless crowd of mindless, adoring fans. She's egocentric and shows no regard for others, and apparently has since she was younger, Rococo saying that she 'always won' their arguments and since he 'fought back', he got very good at running. She's ready to and tries to destroy/eternally imprison a group of children because they crashed her wedding.

Not only this, but Sweetheart compares herself to a literal god in-game:

The fact that 'blasphemy' is defined as 'the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk' speaks for itself. Sweetheart views herself as a god, or at least whatever comes closest to it.

Furthermore, I'd like you to look at her laugh:

...yeah. Now, does it remind you of anything? No? How about this:

Both of them use 'oho' as a sound in regular conversation, though Sweetheart incorporates it through her laugh while it is the only word that Biscuit uses to converse. In a way, it's his language.

Now, consider the fact that Sweetheart was raised in Orange Oasis, where the Unbread Twins are known about and respected. Bread is left under a giant carving of them. There are still legends about them. They're treated as gods, because that's what they are. Doughie and Biscuit are actual deities, and one of them only uses the language of 'oho'.

Sweetheart knows all of this, and most likely believes in the twins herself. By imitating Biscuit's manner of speaking at times, she could be interpreted as imitating the language of the gods. It's a stretch, but the connection between 'Ohoo' and 'OHO' is made easily enough.

She considers herself to be so superior to everyone else that she compares herself to a higher being multiple times. She even attempts to bend the laws of nature in Headspace and make sentient copies of herself that are just like her so that she can have someone to marry.

I'm not saying she definitely has a god complex because that's not something that I am able to diagnose, especially not to a video game character. But there's certainly evidence to support this, and it's been fun compiling it!

Bear in mind that Sweetheart potentially having NPD does not mean that everyone with NPD is exactly like Sweetheart! Everyone is unique, and a mental illness/disorder does not define a person. Do not use this as an excuse to stigmatise NPD or take this as me being against it. I am talking about a fictional character who is incredibly overdramatised because that's her whole character- the narcissist looking for a date who serves as an obstacle to finding out the truth. NPD and a god complex are also not the same thing, so consider that when bringing it up!

Annnnd I have a silly question. I love Elucien and I'm at the point where nothing else in the Acotar universe (or sjm multiverse swh) interests me anymore. I just wanna see their storyline. I've never read Crescent City series and since the next book is the closest thing to getting an update on how our fox boy is doing I'm considering giving it a shot. But I don't what to read a bigilion pages about how perfect and smart and winged and dark and well-dicked some guys are and a little plot that doesn't make any sense by the next book. Do you think I should just stop complaining and give it a shot? Or maybe it won't worth it since the next book won't even mention Lucien 😒 Do you think he will be in it?

Thank you for your message!!!! I'm sorry I've been a bit absent from blogging the last few weeks, I hit one of those slumps where I'm frustrated with the lack of ACOTAR news. Like you, I adore Elucien and considering they have been an unanswered mystery since 2016 (I feel empathy for anyone who has been waiting for answers since then!!), it gets to a point where the not knowing can be aggravating. As to your question about Crescent City, I don't think we're going to see much (if any) Lucien in Crescent City 3. Lucien shares information about Spring and the Human Lands with the IC but we've yet to see that in reverse, where the IC shares information with Lucien. He wasn't included in the discussion about the made weapons, he wasn't included in their plans for Nesta's training, etc. Which I understand because he's not really part of the IC. I think after Bryce's arrival in Prythian, the IC is going to want to keep it as much a secret as they can (for now) until they can figure out exactly what consequences her arrival could have for the rest of their world. Announcing that they had a visitor from outer-space would only cause panic among the courts at this point (the courts are already struggling to figure things out after the war and the wall having come down) and Rhys tends to hold information close to the vest until he figures out the next steps. Maybe Helion will make an appearance in CC3 but I can't see any other side characters outside the NC being brought into the crossover in January. I do think Lucien will eventually learn of everything that happened in CC3 but in a future ACOTAR novel. And I don't think when the next ACOTAR novel starts, it will delve right into the crossover. SF ended with the characters worried about Beron allying with Koschei, with the fae on the continent refusing to sign the treaty and with Spring still in shambles. There are ACOTAR only readers (you being one of them!) and many are not in the fandom so it doesn't make sense to start the next book after Bryce's arrival in Prythian where the characters are discussing an alien visitor. That's much too big of a plot jump forward. To me it would make sense if SJM started the next book sometime between SF and the crossover, then eventually leads up to what happened in it.

Now if you're a fan of Urban Fantasy and looking for a new read, you may want to read the Crescent City series for that fact alone. However, if that's not your thing I think you'll be able to get by on learning about what happens in the crossover through the fandom. I think most would also be willing to share whether there are Lucien appearances (if I'm wrong and he does show up). Personally, I've struggled with CC. I really don't care for Urban Fantasy and I'm not a fan of Bryce. She reads as the most immature SJM heroine to date and though I'm all about feminism and someone being an independent woman, a character constantly having to proclaim herself as such misses the mark. I also think there's just way too much being thrown into the series, sort of like "everything but the kitchen sink" all in one book. I got through book 1 but have only been able to tolerate paragraphs here and there of book 2. But, I think most of the feedback I've seen is in favor of the CC series so I realize I'm probably in the minority! It's funny because I've always loved the bat boys and the IC but at this point, her series feel oversaturated with them which has made me like them less. "Too much of a good thing" and all that. I really would like to see her explore characters outside of the IC to give us a breather. Eris, Lucien, Vassa, Jurian, Helion, the LoA, etc. And Elain of course because she's not really coming off as "one of the IC". She's given us crumbs for these characters for so long without ever giving them a chance to tell their stories and it feels like it's time.

Testing the Waters: Prank Date

In my post here, I've briefly touched upon this date and it's significance in the development of Gavin and MCs relationship. Which is why here is a quite short analysis on this date.

Before we start some update on my works... I've received all of your asks and read them all, there are so good questions among them that I just can't answer them in a single sentence. But I've also received all of the analysis requests. Thank you all so much for your compliments, comments and trust! I appreciate it dearly in my heart and reading them brightens my day! 💖💖💖

All of them already have a draft, but please have just a little bit of patience until I complete them. One of the asks is including all of the LIs and therefore requires me to go through their dates as to not overlook anything. If there is a committed Victor Stan out there to volunteer, I would appreciate it so much! I'm also working on putting GavinxMC storyline in a chronological order (with a healthy sparkle of Headcanon as to which date might take place during which chapter). In this work, I put everything together alongside their highlights which might also serve as a Date/Main story glossary for the new Gavin stans and the older ones, so beware! 🥰

Without further ado...Spoilers ahead!

First things first... This date takes place right after the Romantic Date and before the "Kiro crisis" Date ;)

During this date Gavin and MC are still in the earlier stage of their relationship. Gavin is surprised to see MC awake at 6 am and MC worries about getting a cold from the wind swh. But Gavin already knows about MCs favorite breakfast spot and MC knows that Gavin can handle spicy food. The date comes to because Gavin takes MC to the shooting spot, which is roughly an hour away (MC wakes up 90 min. earlier to make it in time, but Gavin needs only 30 min. to get her there). So he makes sure they can have breakfast first. Assuring that their date starts early in the morning.

The shooting has a Prank theme to it so everyone on set is in a mischievous mood. For example the director offers MC sandwich biscuits with mustard in them, to which Gavin activates his "protective bf" protocol and intimidates the poor director. Freezing the atmosphere in an instant. BUT! Get this... What he does next earns my respect.

After this the director tries to smoothen the vibe by saying Gavin does that because he cares about MC and then offers him a biscuit (which is a pretty shameless act since everybody knows now that some of them are pranked. One shouldn't ever try to pull a prank on someone with whom they had an unpleasant encounter just a second ago). Gavin knows this so well and yet thanks him, takes the spicy biscuit, eats it as a whole and then says it tastes good. People, this is how you deal with bullies elegantly. Plus the friendly tone he uses shows that he is over with what happened a moment ago and that he isn't important enough to annoy him. Gavin had the chance to just downright rejected him, but instead he saw his challenge, accepted it and robbed him of his joy. Moreover, the director then thought Gavin had a normal biscuit so he tried one lol... What an idiot.

After the break, MC takes Gavin to the backstage room and asks him to wait for her. And than leaves for 2 hours! Once she's back, she finds Gavin sleeping on the couch, inviting her to... check on him?! Anyways Gavin was apperantly having a nightmare, MC tries to touch him to which he reacts with his military reflex by catching her hand mid air all the while having messy hair and then MC comes up with the idea of grooming him a little since she wants to see him bare foreheaded to which he replies he did, in fact, have shorter hair in the military! (we need a karma on this, asap)

Afterwards Gavin took on the role of a coiffeur and braids her hair first but then gives her the look she had while at high school (our birdcop is always nostalgic about high school).

One thing leads to another and Gavin decides to take the advantage of the situation they're in. As I said earlier, this date takes place after Romantic Date, so Gavin has spent a valentine's day with MC and met her family before that, so my guess is that he is already sensing some mushy vibes (Joe's word for romance) on MCs end, that's why he decides to test the waters and see how frequent these vibes go.

The best part is, he doesn't plan on doing anything up to this point, but as he sees her in a low pony, I think it just triggers his inner emotions and he gives in. He can't help but opening up to her about how he wished he could've spent the missing years with her, which flusters her big time. He takes this as athe signal he was waiting for so here he goes.

Gavin's 4 step plan in seeing if MC is willing to kiss him:

Step 1: Call her out on being nervous.

Step 2: Intensify the sexual tension.

Step 3: Answer her questions with questions. (keep the ball in her court)

Step 4: Tilt your head and shorten the distance...

Step 5: Get cockblocked 😂

God knows I die for his sigh by the end. It speaks a thousand words 😆

But Gavin isn't a quitter, so once they're left alone he makes sure he clears the air and explains his intentions as he has her in his arms...

Still keeping the ball on her court though and leaves it to her interpretation as to what he just did was a Prank or not. ;)

- celestine watches like a disappointed mother, and sends him straight home because lord knows he won't rest otherwise

- when he's sick, it usually settles in his chest, doesn't really sneeze that often. if he does, it's one and it's done

- except for the fact that he's allergic to perfume. like, one sniff and he's set off for the next few hours

- celestine came in with a new perfume one day and artem was in his office forever, barely getting anything done because he kept sneezing instead of working

- he's got the dad sneeze. softer than the typical dad sneeze, but still a dad sneeze ("hhUUu'sHHRsh!")

- he usually muffles with his arm, he's polite. but everyone in a 5 mile radius immediately knows who that sound came from

- yes, he is very embarrassed about this fact and therefore tries to avoid sneezing whenever possible

1. Why did you choose your url?

Mostly just wanted a change of pace from my old one! (Also my biological & abusive father was stalking my old url so.) But basically uhhhh i love wandering around in the middle of nowhere like a lost child and also corvids <3

2. Any side blogs?

Quite a bit actually! None of them are super active anymore because I stopped caring about social media. Only one that’s still kinda used is @softsayings which is a joint blog between rickshaww and I.

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

…I wanna say 2017??? Is when I made my first account? I abandoned it after a couple of months and never picked it up again (it was a kin blog, surprising probably no one) and I made this one in,,, March 2018 according to the archive. So when I was about 16.

I do not and the only thing I put in my queue is the anthropocene sea foam post whenever someone reminds me about it <3

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

This blog originally was a witchcraft blog. I. don’t think that’s the case anymore lmao.

@rickshaww my beloved drew us for my birthday present and I wanted to show it off :3

Cool and sexy abandoned building we found during a roadtrip and one wall looked like album art!! (Also think it’s especially cool how that building had the lyrics from the Garages’ Deicide written on the wall and how I’d absolutely never even think about doing something like that.)

On this blog, it is, and I quote, “AAAAAAAA DISCIPLINE FUCKS HARDCORE” which 30 whole people seemed to like and I pray my blog never gets any bigger because if it gets like my old aesthetic blog I will just nuke this one and start over.

No clue! I think I’m mutuals with most of the ppl I follow/that I regularly see on my dash though.

109!! And I never want to get above 200.
