I've been writing and rewriting this fic for about 2 years, and I finally decided that it is time to start posting it.

I want to thank everyone in the Dragon Effect server, and my besties, who have listened to me rant and rave and come up with increasingly angsty bullshit to put Alex through for the last 2 years. Truly, I don't think I'd have gotten this far without y'all.

This is still a WIP, and as of right now I am planning on posting every other week.

Alex shrugs. “I know more than most of the crew. Covert pickup on Eden Prime. Testing the stealth systems in action.” He looks at Nihlus. Spectres are the galaxy’s best soldiers. They don’t ask questions like that without already knowing the answer. “But you know something I don’t, or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

“Yes.” The bass of Nihlus’ subvocals offset the tenor of his voice in a pleasant harmony. “I’m sure you are aware that the Alliance has been pushing for the induction of a human Spectre for years. I’ve been sent to evaluate your candidacy.”

I am a fan since: 2017. I had finished the Dead Space series and was emotionally devastated, and wanted to try out more sci fic games. I had heard about Mass Effect (in particular the mess that the original ending for me3 had been and the Andromeda hate wave that was going around back then) and decided to give it a go. And I ended up emotinally devastated once more lol

Favourite game of the series?: ME3. The story, the soundtrack, the whole emotional weight and all the heavy moments make it my favourite of the series.

MShep or FShep?: Femshep, but I've definetely grown to like Maleshep over the years, especially cause of the Cortez romance.

Earthborn, Colonist or Spacer?: Most of my Sheps are earthborns, but I have a couple colonists and just one spacer. Love me some tragic backstories lol

Biotics or Tech: Tech 4 ever. Incinerate, hacking, tech armour goes brrr.

Paragon or Renegade: Have always leaned more towards renegade or paragade or renegon, mostly cause I feel that a pure Paragon Shep feels almost too naive and innocent with some of the responses they have.

Favourite Class: Infiltrator, followed closely behind by Sentinel and Engineer.

Favourite Companion: A tie between Javik, Kasumi and Zaeed.

Least favourite Companion: Legion. Not that I dont like Legion in particular, its just that i dont care much about the Geth overall.

My squad selection: I dont really have a set squad. Im always rotating characters to hear their dialogues.

Favourite In-game romance: Shiara was my main ship for many years, but now my favourites are Shaynor and Shortez.

Other pairings I like: Jack and Kahlee Sanders, Javik and Zaeed, Ashley and Samantha, Kaidan and Steve, etc. Rarepairs are my jam and I have so many lol.

Favourite NPC: So many, but just to name some. Gianna Parasini, Kelly, Lorik Qui'in and the turian mechanic in Noveria.

Favourite Antagonist: The Illusive Man without a doubt.

Favourite Mission: ME1 - Feros, ME2 - Kasumi's Loyalty Mission, ME3 - Thessia.

Favourite Loyalty Mission: Kasumi's.

Favourite DLC: Omega and Leviathan.

Control, Synthesis or Destroy: Low EMS destroy is my favourite ending, cause I love all the angst and how it really shows just how destructive the war really was, and how hard the rebuilding will be. Its imo the most "realistic" version of the endings. Also really like Control and Refusal.

Favourite Weapon: The Black Widow and the Phalanx cause I like the sound it makes.

Favourite Place: Ilos cause it always makes me so nostalgic about the first time I played.

A quote I like: "There. Earth. I wish you could see it like I do, Shepard. It's so... perfect". This quote from TIM devastated me when I first heard it and it keeps giving me all the feels to this day.

I am a fan since: 2017, I got it for Christmas in 2016 so I always just say '17

Favorite Game of the series: By virtue of simply replaying it the most, three. I really love the combat in it so I've played it near thirty times? But all time fave would have to 1 because of the aesthetic, tone, and story. There's something about first discovering a world which is what me1 is about.

MShep or Femshep? Gotta go with Femshep. I have played both, its just hard to capture the male shepard image I have in my head in the character creator so Femshep it is.

Earthborn, Colonist, or Spacer: earthborn! My main Shepard Jenn is earthborn so that's what I'm going with. Though, I have numerous Shepard's are various background combinations. I have feelings about each background trust me

Biotics or tech: Both! Though I really do love biotics, you can do some cool stuff with them, setting up and detonating both biotic and tech explosions.

Paragon or Renegade: I have to repeat what nowandthane said, paragon choices, renegade dialogue.

Favorite Class: Sentinel. I love the versatility of the class, but I do have an affection for Infiltrator because that's what got me through me2 on insanity.

Favorite Companion: Tali. By story value, Javik. He's like one of the most important characters

Least Favorite Companion: Javik, throw your attitude out the airlock. IM JOKING! (he has every reason to be like he is. I love him very much) Liara is my answer though only because I don't like some of the story choices the devs did with her. (ex: why does she have Shepard's armor in a display case when i didn't even romance her??? I can't mention this at all??)

My squad selection: For Jenn's playthrough: Wrex/Tali in me1. Garrus/Mordin/Miranda generally in me2. Thane and Miranda/Samara for the collector base. Kaidan/Javik/James in me3. Of course, I mix it up based on story aspects and the difficulty settings. But me3 is pretty fixed bc I always play on insanity.

Favorite in-game Romance: Tali and Garrus. I'm a sucker for awkward, wet cat of a man like Garrus is. But Tali's romance man.... her parting line to Shepard during the beam run "I have a home" makes me insane actually

Other pairings I like: Obligatory Nihlus/Shepard/Kal (and the duos within in this throuple) mention here. Other than that, Joker/Miranda and Joker/James, Ashley/Garrus, and Shepard/Wrex, I could list a whole lot so I'll keep it to those ships lol

Favorite NPC: Nihlus and Kal'Reegar for sure. Victus and of course Niftu Cal our favorite biotic god.

Favorite Antagonist: Saren. He's the best one that we get in all three games (Harby could have been number one if they did anything with him in three but that's a rant for another time lmao)

Favorite Mission: Haestrom/Tali's Loyalty mission because that's when I get to see Kal <3 and blow up a colossus with the Cain. Also, the Collector Ship mission I have to mention because it's frankly the only mission besides the two previously stated where I've loaded up the save to play it on insanity when I'm bored. It's fun. Of course, this is with the Infiltrator.

Favorite Loyalty Mission: Tali for numerous reasons. Kal mention here. But I love the insight into Quarian culture we get. Also we see that fire in her when she's talking to the Board which I always appreciate. Along with her dialogue at the end, "I got better, Shepard. I got you." and then on the ship afterwards, "I don't think life is about what we deserve." I love her so much.

Favorite DLC: Leviathan. Only because of the horror aspect.

Control, Sythesis, or Destroy? Destroy. I have so many issues with the ending and that's the least worst option in my opinion so. (I too ignore that it wipes out the Geth and Edi fuck that)

Favorite Weapon: The M-90 Cain or the M-99 Saber aka the "Big Iron". Lancer in three was my favorite weapon before I found the Saber. Special mention to my bud the Mattock, I have been convinced of its glory. I do not think the Harrier is better anymore lol which my brother would be happy to hear

Favorite Place: me1 Citadel my BELOVED.

A quote I like Quotes I Like: The ENTIRETY of Sovereign's dialogue on Virmire GOD ITS SO GOOD!!!! / "Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer." / "Does this unit have a soul?" / "Just followed your example, Shepard. Favourite game of the series?: Dont hate me for this, but its Mass Effect 1. The others have better mechanics, but the storyline and just pure variety and choice you have in one, not to mention THE MAKO! just makes me love it so much. And I'm saying this as someone who has yet to even romance anyone in 1.

MShep or FShep?: FShep hands down. Have never even contemplated playing MShep lol.

Earthborn, Colonist or Spacer?: Ive been Earthborn 2 or 3 times but I also enjoy Spacer.

Biotics or Tech: Tech. I am a tech girlie through and through. Ive only played a biotic class once. It was fun but I still prefer tech.

Paragon or Renegade: Paragon hands down lol. Sometimes a pit of Paragade but I'm too nice to be mean to people.

Favourite Class: Engineer or Soldier. I love the tech powers of Engineer but I also love my assault rifles lol

33. What skills do they have that are a surprise to the people around them?

he enjoys sketching buildings/cityscapes, especially when he gets to visit the citadel or other species' homeworlds. he was a spacer, so even earth is fascinating to him. it always surprises people to see how detailed and accurate his drawings are.

35. Which companions have they lost? How do they cope with it?

i assume this means in canon i.e. virmire/suicide mission? he chose kaidan on virmire because of rank, but he takes ash's loss extremely hard because he feels like he robbed her of her chance to redeem her family. he struggles with her death for a long time, because he knows the pressure of being part of an alliance family.

37. Got any bad habits?

haven't thought much about this but i'm thinking avoidant behavior and a past history of nail-biting dskjfhsdjk

39. Do they keep around any sentimental items?

not at first but after the sr-1 gets destroyed he keeps his old dog tags to keep him connected to the alliance while he works with cerberus (he was a sole survivor so me2 is like rock bottom for him) and to remind him that just because he's survived some scrapes with death, it doesn't mean he always will

18. Who’s the dream team? Which companions does Shepard fight best with and why?

for audrey, people that can get up into the fray while she hangs back and snipes/gives orders are the best. she usually takes one biotic and one high-damage squadmate, so like wrex and liara would have been a good team for her in me1

28. What about hyperfixations? What’s the topic that will get Shepard rolling no matter the person or place

hyperfixations: when she gets starts on a jewelry/sculpting project she can get very consumed by it. when she gets materials for tinkering she tends to keep to her cabin until she's made something. for the second part, she doesn't laugh a lot unless she's comfortable with the people around, but on the other hand it's really easy to make her laugh if she is comfortable with you. she likes her squadmates' senses of humor.

38. Does Shepard do any activities with the companions and crew during downtime?

it depends. she's more introverted, but she tries to organize gatherings so that her team can do teambuilding and she understands how important it is for the squad and crew to see her face and interact directly with her. it does make her tired, though, so she needs to decompress after

48. What abilities do they rely on the most in a fight?

she relies heavily on her sniper rifle and tactical cloak

5. How well does Shepard know their crew? Not just the companions, but the folks making up the Normandy

she knows everyone pretty well bc she's personable and outgoing. some people take a while to warm up to her because of her history and she's very unrefined, especially for an officer, but most people eventually see that she's loyal and cares about them, even if they don't always agree with her demeanor or choices

15. What colors does Shepard prefer for their armor?

black and red, classic

25. How emotionally articulate is your Shepard? Do they emote well?

evanna is not the great at expressing emotions that aren't anger or joy. anything more complex than those two will usually see them at the bar

35. Which companions have they lost? How do they cope with it?

they sacrificed kaidan on virmire, but at the end of the day that sacrifice is kinda overshadowed by her history on earth, where she was forced to kill her own teammates. she carries kaidan's death with her, but she doesn't really blame herself so much as she wishes it didn't have to be that way and kinda like. blames fate/god/the universe.

answering questions about my wips here!!

so delineation is the working title for my mass effect detective/noir AU (yes 2024 actually is the year of the AU, i am actively working on three!!!) it's a retelling of garrus's mission from me1 but with a straight edge detective kaidan and a gray area garrus who quit the force after the two fucked up their last mission, here's a snippet:

Garrus clicks the buckle on his seatbelt open and stands up, feeling the blood flow back into his legs as he moves. He has always hated sitting around. Kaidan looks comfortable in the too narrow seat of this tin box of a ship, just fine sitting in the pilot’s chair, content to wait. Always okay with following the rules, no matter how stupid they are. He must find some security in this, in the guardrails the rules provide, the safety. Garrus can’t stand it.

“He got away because you wouldn’t let me kill him.” 

Kaidan swallows, his throat moving too loudly in the quiet around them. Garrus watches his neck, the skin moving, the Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. “Is that what you came here to do, Garrus? Kill him?”

“I came here to stop him.” Garrus has to look down, at the worn metal floor, the shiny points where shoes have pressed down again and again as other officers have used this old hunk of junk. How many disagreements have been had here? How many friendships ended? How many partnerships dissolved? How many more? “If that means he needs to die, then I hope you won’t stop me this time.”

Shepard sways closer, looking up at him and tilting his head. Were his eyes always so dark? “No one’s ever prepared for me.” “That’s for sure.”

Been working on Rhys and Kaidan's next chapter. Here's a little bit of a new addition to what I already had...

Standing up on her tiptoes, Sara plops one hat after another on his head trying to find one that fits well.  Rhys bends over slightly to help her out, but she still only manages to land them on the front of his head and blocking his vision each time.    “Okay, here’s the last one,” she announces about ten minutes later, setting the last choice just as she has all the others.  “Let’s hope it’s big enough.” Sighing, Rhys re-settles the hat on his head while teasing, “Are you saying I’m big headed, Ryder?” Bright, bubbly laughter fills the shop, and he can’t help but grin in response to it.  “Gotta keep all that knowledge tucked away safe, right, Doc?”

I can't tell you all how much I love Rhys' relationship with Sara Ryder! I'm excited to have her tagging along through ME1 with them!

Measurements - Mass Effect; Shakarian AU in which Shepard is a designer commissioned to create outfits for a C-Sec gala and Garrus is one of the employees she's designing for.

Ignite - Mass Effect, pre-Shakarian, my version of Shepard and Garrus's first major conversation aboard the Normandy. My first ever Mass Effect fic, and while I've grown quite a bit as a writer since writing it, I'm still fond of it.

Suggestion - Mass Effect canon-ish, pre-Shakarian, featuring Liv propositioning Garrus post-ME1. I'm not someone who's precious about making tweaks to canon, but I'm happy with how I pulled this one off, and with how it changes the dynamics between Liv and Garrus in ME2 (because now it's not just that your friend is back from the dead, it's that your friend you had plans to fuck is back from the dead and you're not sure if she's still interested in the sex part).

looking at you like a star from the place the world forgot - Mass Effect, pre-Shakarian; Garrus fantasizes about Shepard while on Omega. Written for the Solo Satisfaction 2024 challenge.

the sweetest submission (drinking you in) - Dragon Age: Origins; Zevran/M!Cousland. Pure smut, featuring some praise kink, begging, and light D/s dynamics. Definitely the horniest of my Dragon Age fics for now.

First of all thanks for the ask, I love to do this things.

I've re-read all my stuff recently, and I have to say my opinion about which of my fics I prefer has changed like A LOT, so here go my new 5 favourites:

Listen Before I Go (Unfinished) - My Shepard's backstory in the Alliance told by my Ryder to Kaidan in between ME1 and ME2, when they both think she's dead. - I think that the fact that I know this won't be popular no matter what, gives me the freedom to do whatever I want and experiment, and I simply love the result.

The Three Letters (Unfinished) - My Tomb Raider fic. It's just awesome (maybe I'm biased lol), but it's a clear example of: it doesn't exist and no one asked for it, but I want it with all my heart so I'm gonna write myself. - The fandom is so small that is a delight writing in it, and you can see that I'm having a great time when you read it.

Don't Leave me Behind (finished) - ME3 ending + Shepard's rescue. - Chapters 3 and 4 are so freaking good that I still can't believe it was me who wrote them lol

Somebody that I Used to Know (f) / Never Have I Ever (f) / Didn't Have the Heart (u) - I know, I know... I'm cheating a little bit by naming three at the same time, but they are continuations of each other, so it's like one big fic and I couldn't decide which one I like better - StIUtK is my 1st ME fic, and I'm in love the story, NHIE was hilarious to write, I still cry when I read it, and DHtH it's a mix of the two, so how can I choose between them?

Do your Worst (finished) - My Ryder after the ending of MEA going back to Kadara to see Reyes... Smut happens - My first fic ever (posted online, that is). - This will always be in this type of lists, for it holds a special place in my heart. Also, my Ryder is amazing and super sexy and funny, and her banter with Reyes gives me life <3
