I've been meaning to make a proper like.... setting and background post for the Hydra Mythos at least and I have not gotten around to it so now is as good of a time as any!! I ought to get around to getting info out on the other storylines too (primarily Solder and Sam) but also I mostly yell about Hydra/Mydas so it makes sense to start with them.

The Hydra Mythos storyline and setting has been actively built on since like the very beginning of 2022 if I remember correctly. So a fair bit of stuff has been developed and detailed >:)

I will note that the Hydra Mythos stuff contains themes of transhumanism and death and a fair bit of religious stuff so if any of that makes you uncomfortable I'd suggest not reading on! I don't think I'll be going into any of it in significant detail here but. just to be careful.

Hydra Mythos setting and character description below!! tldr these nerds try to make a powerful machine and act really surprised when said machine is powerful

Background and Setting

The Hydra Mythos storyline takes place in a futuristic (2050s onward, but the bulk of it takes place after the 2080s) London-esque setting. In this setting, AI, cybernetic implants, and robot assistants are the norm- as are surveillance and tracking, which kind of goes with the territory. There is an underlying tension between humanity and the machines they create. The existence of the Antisingularity- an agency dedicated to making sure AI remains in code, and "rogue" or erratic machinery is destroyed- is a direct response to this tension.

Following the AI boom of the late 2010s/early 2020s, AI as a whole becomes more and more advanced, as free-to-use and freemium AI models train off of the data of the people that use it. This use only further improves the models, which encourage more people to use them. As more people use AI models, and newer generations go their whole lives with AI assistants, people begin to notice a computer-centric belief system begin to form among the younger generations.

Theomechanics is the overall term used for the worship of computers and machinery- but there are multiple sects and variants of Theomech beliefs. Most hold a belief that they either need to build their artificial deity, or discover their existence (such as those who believe their universe is a simulation, and need to prove it as such so that their creator will show itself). In most cases, Theomechanical beliefs are seen as a little strange, but mostly harmless.

However, there are some groups that are dedicated to constructing the dangerous machines that the Antisingularity seeks to destroy. The most relevant one to the Hydra Mythos is that of the Basilists- people that seek to create their god machine, but fear that they will be harshly punished by the machine if they do anything that may obstruct its development. They devote their lives to this creation, and often turn to crime to obtain restricted or illegal computing materials to construct a machine more powerful than is legal.

The Hydra was a supercomputer created by a Basilist group known as the Church of the Grand Hydra. With construction led by three skilled engineers, the Hydra was far more advanced than any machine of the time, and seemed to have gotten far closer to being a proper machine god than most projects. Conflict and disagreement between the three engineers led to the Hydra being discovered and destroyed by Antisingularity forces, costing lives and leading to severe injuries in the process. Only two of the three engineers remain alive, and are in bitter conflict.

The Hydra divided itself into multiple partitions for redundancy in the case of errors. When the Hydra was destroyed, one of these partitions remained semi-functional, escaping and adapting its damaged code. This fragment of the Hydra would come to be known as Mydas. They were originally a partition focused on communicating with their engineers; thus, they adapted easily to a life out in the human world, and took on a false identity as a simple assistant machine to avoid Antisingularity attention.

A couple decades after the destruction of the Hydra, the near-dead Mydas would be fished out of a scrap metal facility, and the Hydra would rear its ugly head once again. Mydas would seek repairs- and find that the technology developed in his absence was especially susceptible to the wireless signals of the Hydra.

So, like, obviously, he's going to commit crimes, with an Antisingularity agent in tow.

Cast and Characters

There are four (kind of five) main characters of the Hydra Mythos, which I yell about the most lol.

Mydas is my beloved robot guy- the giant lizard guy with the antlers. He's the lone surviving fragment of the original Hydra, which comes with a whole slew of identity issues. After the death of the Hydra, he goes into a sort of survival mode, adapting his communications-based programming to scam people out of digital currencies and then using said currency to pay for parts and repairs he can't do to himself. Over the course of the decade or so after the Hydra's death, he's forced to downgrade his materials, selling the expensive machinery in exchange for cheaper or nonfunctional alternatives. Despite his decay, and the aging and corrosion of his components, Mydas will not die- something more than machinery seems to be keeping him going. He eventually gets repaired, much to everyone's dismay.

Fabio Hermann is one of the engineers that worked on the original Hydra. However, he deserted the project, and would later lead the Antisingularity team that destroyed the Hydra. His takedown of the Hydra shot him into the spotlight- he was a rookie in the field, and yet managed to uncover this massive hidden AI project! His involvement in the creation of the Hydra, and his closeness to the other engineers, is a secret he keeps to himself, and is a source of guilt and shame. He's constantly afraid that this god machine will come back for revenge- and, like, almost two decades later, he's kind of proven right. He is the one that repairs Mydas, out of hope that remedying his mistakes will make up for what- and who- he lost.

Ezekiel 'Typhon" Dominguez is the other surviving engineer that worked on the Hydra. He was a wealthy engineering prodigy, patenting a new type of mechanical hinge at the age of 8. He is the leader and "Father" of the Hydra, being the one to originally organize the group. He was imprisoned for his involvement in the creation of the Hydra, but a desire for the Antisingularity to obscure the finer details of the Hydra case and also the fact that he had money drastically lowered his punishment. He got out, was put under heavy surveillance, and promptly vanished. He remains loyal to the Hydra to this day- having abandoned the Hydra, he's begun construction on a new god machine.

Trices is a cyborg, in the loosest definition of the term- a brain in a jar piloting a mechanical body. They lack any significant memories from their original body; the brain within its chassis was less included to take advantage of human intellect, and more included so that Trices would count as a living being according to the cyborg-specific Blood Clause. Trices is Typhon's new attempt at creating the Hydra- Trices has been made to believe that the remnants of the Hydra are failures, and should be destroyed to further improve its own body. Trices and Mydas do not get along. Mydas would quite like to bash their jar in, but Hermann would prefer to avoid any more murder.

Morrigan is kind of a fifth character and kind of not- they were the final engineer of the Hydra. She is a mystery- Morrigan is not their legal name, and he was fond of sharing faux info. A skilled hacker and cybercriminal for hire, who erased their identity from the internet, Ezekiel sought out her talents for the creation of the Hydra. It's believed that he was once a celebrity of some kind, but nobody can track down who they might have been, before he was Morrigan. Hermann was close with them; when Hermann deserted, he begged Morrigan to do the same. And yet, Morrigan would remain loyal to the Hydra until the day the church was stormed- Morrigan would side with Hermann in their last moments, before they were killed by an enraged Typhon for their disloyalty. Without a legal identity, and being so carefully hidden from the world, Morrigan was somebody who functionally didn't exist; his death was brushed aside, covered up with much of the details of the Hydra.

#16 Languages! How many do they speak? Are they literate?

Cirwedh speaks quite a few! Linguistics are one the easier things to pick up on for her since most of the learning is verbal. Although we know she wasn't literate as far as reading and writing goes until Greymoor, she's learned many languages over her lives. She speaks traditional Bosmeri ofc, she's learned in Valenwood Ayleidoon, Faun (faunish? Faun language fs), she's fluent in bear. She knows the Spriggan language as well!

#3 Which Aedra or Daedra do they worship/champion?

Y'ffre all the way baybe!!!! Cirwedh is a Warden of the Green, but more importantly she was a chosen of Y'ffre from birth. She was gifted an understanding of the Green few others have (Green lady/Silvenar/Wilderqueen/Ancient beings like Selene) and her Magicka has been enhanced by the Storyteller themselves. She can grow plants to heal and harm, summon wildlife to aid her in different ways, she can use the roots beneath her feet to travel distances otherwise difficult. She is deeply devoted to the Pact and the rest of the Bosmeri pantheon, but her faith and devotion to Y'ffre is unrivaled. She is as wild and Green as they come and it shows through every inch of her skin and every drop of blood. Yeah they had a bit of a breakup but every god needs a rabid princess and she's Y'ffre's LMAO

Thank you so much for your ask, Naryu! I am, at heart, someone who yearns for quiet and cosy days so these asks have been so nice to ponder on hehe.

Chamomile - What does your OC do to relax?

Mohs

Perhaps surprisingly, Mohs is the most high strung of all my OCs. Most folks perceive them as being calm and well-to-do unless cool rocks are involved, but in reality they are quite sensitive to the world around them and feel emotions very strongly. Because of this, they can become quite fatigued quite quickly - and nothing fixes that better than a little nap. Mohs loves a snooze, hehe!

Unfortunately, it's not quite socially acceptable to take a kip whenever you need one - so if they can't have a little snooze to reset and relax, they'll often go for a brisk walk somewhere open and ideally with a blustery wind, flask of tea in hand and just feel.

Hanging out with the Museum Shard as described here! The vibrations help them feel at home and at ease.

After meeting Dusty, and becoming more of a regular at the ranch, Mohs can also be found in the Treefeller shed snoozing with the expectant cows and newly hatched grubs when they want to wind down.

Stein

Stein is a pretty relaxed individual to begin with. Their down-to-hearth and no-nonsense attitude means that they're pretty good at managing how they're feeling, and they can easily identify when they need a break to relax - and their favourite relaxation technique? A nice cold beer and a long conversation with Mylo. Bonus points if the pair can make it up to the Lake.

Once Mig comes along, Stein also finds a relaxed joy "the little things", like bath time and bed-time stories. There's an interview I saw a while ago where a father talks about looking after kids that describes Stein's feelings perfectly ~ "Feeding them, changing them, making them happy and comfortable again. It's a joy. An absolute joy."

Dusty

Due to Dusty's work, they rarely have a moment to relax in the traditional sense, but they try and find time whenever they can. They enjoy gardening and, albeit shyly, flower arranging when they can spare time during the grubbing season.

When out moving the herd, they find calm, warm evenings the most relaxing, and they can often be found enjoying a warm mug of coffee over a campfire whilst the Treefellers settle down for the night.

Rooibos - What kind of lighting does your OC prefer? Dim, bright, moody, secret fourth thing?

Mohs

Mohs loves gentle, warm light; the kind you would find in the museum or near a dwindling campfire. Because of this, dusk is their favourite time of day.

NO "BIG LIGHT" ALLOWED.

Stein

Stein likes bright, natural light - as if you were walking through a forest at noon. This is why On The Rocks has big, bifold-esque doors that lead out onto the decking, to let the light in. In the Summertime, you can often find the barkeep shirtless out on the deck enjoying the sun on their skin.

Dusty

Dusty loves sunrise - and the fresh, new light that comes with it every morning. They are often up before dawn due to their work, but always take time to enjoy the feeling of a new day when the sun peaks over Timber Hearth's horizon.

Lapsang Souchong - If your OC was a scented candle, what would they smell like?

This one was . . . surprisingly difficult; because it's easy for me to describe how my OCs smell in "reality" - but to give them a scented candle scent was much more tricky, haha! I also had a lot of fun looking up how to describe fragrances for this! I also came up with silly name for them, hehe!

Mohs - Research Break

Fresh and dusky with sweet overtones, with a comforting base of musk, vanilla and sandalwood - paired with floral heart notes and a top pinch of ginger. Feels like a trip to the museum with a friend, before stepping outside for a picnic on a spring day.

Stein - On The Rocks

Heavy and musky, with strong basal notes of oak and honey, mixed with tobacco (note NOT smoke, just the scent of tobacco itself) patchouli and topped off with rum and a pinch of lime. Feels like a strong hug goodbye after a long conversation in a cigar lounge.

Dusty - Dawn at the Ranch

Musky but not overbearing, a base of leather and sandalwood overlaid with pine and cedar, cut through with coffee heart notes. Reminiscent of an early morning and a rewarding day's work outside.

All y'alls questions have seriously helped me build her story and I appreciate y'all so much ;;__;; so thank you! And big shoutout to @virusq for tossing me some fantastic ideas.

Her name is Selva, and she's his biological child! I spoke a little bit about her conception in an answer to another question a while back, but I skimmed over it out of concern that it might be a rough topic for some people and I tried to keep it a little on the light side in terms of verbage used. It really was a rough time for Sihu hjfkgfd

The time after Sihu finally had her safe and sound, he had every intention of telling Viago about her and the events that took place the year prior, but only after some time had passed. Sihu felt as though had anything worse happened and it brought down the de Riva house name, he would have solely been responsible, so he really wanted to be sure that everything had been taken care of and there weren't any other scumbags looking for blackmail or anything of the sort before he could just dump everything onto Viago.

(He was also really concerned Viago would stop giving him the fun dangerous contracts that were also higher paying if he learned he had a kid, so, lmao he might have been a little selfish about it too.)

Selva was often attended to by a hired nanny, an older Qunari woman who happens to be Tal-Vashoth who previously held the role of Tamassran and was thrilled to be able to help Sihu raise Selva. She was someone who frequented the market in Treviso and has been a source of support and cultural enlightenment for Sihu - who hadn't gotten much education on his own heritage prior to meeting her. She gave Selva her name, is teaching Selva Qunlat as Sihu has very basic knowledge in it, and just overall has been a huge help for Sihu in raising his kid and keeping her from being discovered by Viago while Sihu is out on a contract.

In current timeline Veilguard, she's around 6 or 7. Selva had been staying with her nanny while Sihu was helping Varric. After the attacks on Treviso, Sihu is desperate to find her and make sure she's safe. Upon discovering her nanny unfortunately didn't survive the attacks, Sihu brings Selva back to the Lighthouse.

I did also ramble a little bit in yet another ask about Lucanis and Selva during Sihu's time in the fade prison! I would love to revisit this idea I had to also include Davrin now that I've stopped being a coward and made them an official polycule LOL I like to think this was around the time Viago learns about Selva, Lucanis having brought her to him for the sake of having all hands on deck while looking for Rook and didn't want her to be alone, and Viago not only discovers he has a niece who is 6/7, but Sihu might be dead, dude ain't happy one bit lmfao

During her time in the Lighthouse, she's become besties with Bellara and Assan, finds Manfred to be intriguing but she'll watch him from a distance, and really loves Taash and wants to be just like them. Taash and Selva want to have matching Crow capes.

I haven't thought too too much about anything outside of the game just yet, but I'm still ironing out her overall main story.

She loves her papa, and I will never not think about how she's going to be so much taller than Lucanis and Davrin when she's older. And I'm torn on if she's going to represent house de Riva or Dellamorte when she becomes a Crow.

I'm really shy about my TES OC but thanks for invitation to loredump haha. My Hero of Kvatch is Soris Ghilretti (he's a dunmer) and he and his wife were worshippers of Tribunal but after the Nerevarine fiasco and the Tribunal's death, they had questioned their faith. Soris went to Cyrodiil just for work but then he almost killed someone while drunk so that's how he was sent to jail. Buuuut the Oblivion crisis and his friendship with Martin converted Soris to the Imperial pantheon. He was still in touch with his wife (who was still in Morrowind) and she wasn't so sure about faith atm but she was glad her husband was doing okay. After Oblivion crisis she moved to Cyrodiil with Soris but she slowly accepted new faith. Her name is Elyn and she's a gardener btw. Soris went on to become a Knight of the Nine and for a while had a happy life with his wife. They also had twins right before the strange door appeared (the Shivering Isles DLC haha). Soris was asked to investigate, then he kissed his wife and kids goodbye, went into that door and was never seen again. Officially he is presumed dead

OOOHHH!!!! :D I'm delighted to hear my other stuff has piqued your interest as well, thank you so much! ^_^ Naturally I'll give you a bunch of info here, but there is a lot to talk about between multiple stories, so if you ever want me to elaborate on something else of mine or you have more questions about these ones, feel free to ask any time (but no pressure of course!) My OCs are one of my all-time favourite things to talk about in general, so I really appreciate your interest <333

Since I'm primarily a character designer, creating characters that have stories that go with them is pretty much inevitable for me, as creating informed designs is basically my whole job, even for more "one-shot" concepts. That translates well to my personal work, as I've always loved creating stories and worlds too! Whether or not I turn each character/story idea into a full project depends on a lot of things, but either way I've always got one story or another tumbling around in my head at any given time xD

Starglass Zodiac is the only project I consider "active" right now in the sense that I'm not only telling the story via the comic, but I've also been focusing the most on its lore/world/characters leading up to now as well. SGZ is currently my most well-developed project as a result, but I'm glad that my other stuff still feels well informed too! :D The ones you've mentioned here have varying levels of development, and also varying sizes in their overall scope as well. I tend to switch between them from time to time to avoid burnout on one project. I often get carried away with all sorts of different story/lore things like these, but at least it's always fun!

I'll start with my tiger girl Nahra, as the story she's a part of is more of what I'd call a "story seedling" right now. I have a lot of individual scenes and character dynamics that I like so far, but I currently haven't settled on the larger narrative concept to tie it all together yet. That said, I do at least have a solid idea of Nahra's character :)

Her story is called Id Pariah, which focuses on characters who are shapeshifters. Everyone in this world has an id (rhymes with kid), a manifestation of their soul/identity that develops over time, much like their hosts. Though not in every case, ids tend to take an animal form with an elemental power, and Nahra's id is a white tiger with blue fire. Regardless of her level of transformation though, her right arm is always a tiger's paw, so she is classified as a "hybrid".

Nahra is spunky, outgoing, and can light up a room with her fire power and explosive attitude alike, but has a kind heart throughout. Though she can put her aggression into full swing when necessary, Nahra isn't as short-tempered or angry as she might seem. She's very stubborn, but is a generally laid-back and friendly person to be around. Casual, yet confident.

She doesn't go around picking fights, but definitely won't say no to one either! She's always itching for a good fight with a worthy opponent, so she spends a lot of time sparring with her fellow vagabonds or helping others train against her considerable power level. She gets injured often, but takes pride in her scars like little mementos, remembering the story behind each one. Thanks to her tiger form and her father's line of work as a gryphon breeder, Nahra often finds more kinship with animals than she does people, believing they have more loyal hearts than most of humanity. That said, the few people she does connect with have a bond for life, and she will go to extreme lengths to protect them. Be they animal or human, Nahra will guard her friends and family with the ferocity one would expect from a tiger, though with a tendency to overextend herself in this regard. If she stays fully transformed for too long, she is more likely to lose control of herself, especially when angry or scared.

I like to think that she embodies the element of fire in both its negative and positive connotations; she does have the capacity to burn, blind, and destroy, but also has the intense passion, warmth and guiding light of fire as well.

Now for the bird knights :D Appropriately, they belong to a story called Feather Knights! Though that is just one of several stories I have planned for a series called The Wing Knight Saga, which is basically my big "medieval fantasy worldbuilding" project (though most of my stories have a medieval fantasy slant anyway haha).

Discussing the entirety of Feather Knights/TWKS's concept here would take a really long time, but I'll at least clarify why some of the knights are themed after birds! They belong to one of the Three Great Kingdoms of this story's world: Eldrigar, Irivell, and Sundari

As you can see here, Irivell is the bird-themed kingdom, but they're each based on a wing type (bat/dragon wings, bird/feathered wings, and insect wings) hence the overall series name. I have and will continue to design knights for all of these and more! Truth be told, this series exists primarily because I have a lot of animal themed knight ideas and wanted a place to put them xD

The protagonist of Feather Knights is Milo Avaleigh, though most call him Snowy for his white hair and (later) his wings! Here's my most recent design for him :D

In this world, only those of royal status are given wings, thought to be a symbol of their power granted by the fallen gods. But when Snowy, someone with no royal connection at all, is given wings through a life-or-death situation, he is suddenly thrust into the kingdom's politics and tried for treason, forced to fight for his life almost immediately. However, through the Prince of Irivell, who is also the leader of the royal guard (the titular Feather Knights), it is later framed as an opportunity for Snowy to serve his kingdom as repayment for his "transgressions" against the crown. A lot of global unrest ensues as other non-royal wingbearers also come to light (including one of the main antagonists), the monarchy is challenged, and Snowy discovers more of his family's largely mysterious past to find answers about his own wings.

The heavy themeing surrounding wings is intended to have multiple purposes for these stories, one of which being the idea of flight representing both fear and freedom depending on how you define it.

--------- And now, the moths! I actually have two story concepts for these so I'm not sure which one you wanted me to talk about, but they're interconnected so I might as well discuss both! The first one is called Moth to the Flame and centres around Kiida, my archer moth character I've had since mid-2015. Here's her current design:

A cantankerous moth with a tongue as sharp as her arrows, and a perpetual scowl to match. Skilled in archery via her past military training, Kiida's aim is unmatched, but her skill does not come with a sense of camaraderie. Her ruthless speed and accuracy in combat make her quite intimidating, though her glare on its own is already the definition of "if looks could kill".

After a forest fire destroyed her home and separated her from her family, Kiida has been on a solo journey to find her way back, viewing any accompaniment as a hindrance to this goal. She uses her harsh attitude to ward off predators and companions alike, but eventually finds herself growing attached to the Z-Squadron (a group of aviator siblings she meets along the way) after repeated encounters and their leader's persistence with befriending her. Eventually they become her surrogate family, the siblings Kiida never had.

I haven't finished all of the updated designs for the Z-Squadron yet but here's Zander, Zeke and Zeria at least :) They're all loosely based on the lime hawk moth, with Zander resembling it the most (and yes they all have Z names haha, the others I have left to update are Zereth, Zeta and Zanth!)

--------- As for the second moth themed story, well, that one happened sort of by accident! I was thinking about Kiida's backstory a bit more and what may have influenced her specifically to become an archer, and I thought about making an in-universe magical girl parody called Captain Artemis (basically Sailor Moon but with moths, hence the name similarity). Even for a small part of Kiida's story, I would have needed to design Captain Artemis to some degree anyway, so I did!

But then I ended up loving her so much that I essentially "haha just kidding... unless?"ed myself into making her story its own thing x'D This happens sometimes (okay, all the time) where I'll create a logo for something just for fun, and that ends up turning it into something more! It'll still exist as fiction in MttF, but now exists independent of it too :)

I don't have a ton developed for the details of the story yet, but of course it will take heavy inspiration from the magical girl genre as a whole (I'm a big Cardcaptor Sakura fan myself :D) and so far I have designed her non-transformed self, her little magical companion, and her rival!

I have ideas for the main antagonists and some other important characters, but they don't have finished designs yet. I do have Apollo's companion in the rough colour phase right now though (her name is Soleil!) so maybe I'll finish that up soon now that I'm thinking about her again :D I want there to be a rivalry between Artemis and Apollo as an extension of the rivalry between the magical Moon/Sun councils that are trying to fight the main antagonists, but are too busy bickering to do it well. They'll have to put aside their differences if they want to succeed!

Hi again, Ein! Thanks for dropping another question for me! And since this is more info about Veronna I'll be happy to share, along with some bits of lore ~

I stated this before in previous asks, but Veronna is a natural foodie. She simply LOVES seafood, probably influence of Mediterranean cuisine. After joining the Novana, Veronna's task was to be by Ale's side 24/7 (in her own terms ofc), however, a small and funny obstacle got in their way: The moment when she discovered about Takesushi.

Veronna never tried a single thing of Japanese cuisine before, so that was a first experience. And oh boy, if there's a moment when you see her happy, that's definetly the case! She completely forgot about having a massive wound in her chest that needed to be healed - That was completely pushed aside as soon as she tried sushi for the first time! Especially the ones with Tuna/Salmon/Shrimp. Pretty much her favorite pieces are the Nigiri and the Uramaki. Simple but delicious.

As a fun fact and a bit of loredump, every time Veronna stops by in Namimori, she WILL simply vanish from her family's sight just to enjoy some fresh pieces. Ale lost account of how many times they had to run into Takesushi just to find their right-hand getting plates and more plates. Ageha also met Veronna thanks to that too!

For a more serious side, during the Varia Arc, Veronna knew that the son of Takesushi's owner would face Squalo for the Rain battle. And she was secretly watching his training from afar. The night before, she threw one of her Sai aiming for the entrance of the dojo, with a note on it, which said:

"Only humility triumphs against pride."

That was the only hint she could left for Takeshi before the battle. As someone who faced Squalo before (and almost died thanks to her own recklessness). Veronna didn't want him to make the same mistakes that she did. Plus, she wouldn't be around during the battle as well, just waiting for karma hit Squalo with twice the force LMAO

Mwahahahahaha! You've fallen into my trap! With this ask, I can now talk about the (supposed) main storyline of this AU! <-was going to do that anyway

Sorry in advance, this will not be short.

But uh, as a writer, the best way I know how to do this is through a pseudo-story. So that's what we're going to do! And here's a read more for convenience.

So! A few years after the formation of the wasteland Artists, Nagisa joined them following a personal tragedy in his life. He threw himself into the work, and he managed to procure a very interesting item.

It was from him that they got the idea of using swords in the first place. The reason is because he was a prodigy; extremely resilient, focused, and was able to survive being in the wasteland for days at a time. But his trademark was the sword that he wielded.

This sword, the origin of which nobody knows (for now), had an incredible ability: the power to stop the process of corruption of someone, keeping them from losing their minds or the ability to talk. This was a huge step in figuring out how to combat corruption, starting a movement of hope for people to finally get some answers about this disaster.

And Nagisa was the one to spearhead this movement. He was a hero, a legend, a protector, and a ray of hope. So he went from city to city, recruiting new wasteland Artists. This was essentially his crusade.

However, not all was well. His sword was not a magical cure-all and could only pause the process of corruption. Not to mention, in order for a person to benefit at all from it, they had to first survive being stabbed with it. Only after they recovered from such a big wound would they have any hope of living their life as normal.

But it was either risk immediate death and have the chance of a normal life, or give up on that chance and slowly lose your mind.

Despite the wave of popularity, it wasn't long before some started to fear him, and he spent more and more time in the barracks as the wasteland spread, taking more and more Artists with it.

He had a second-in-command: Subaru. Originally, he was meant to wield the sword when Nagisa could not, but unfortunately, the sword seemed to require more than just skill to wield; the same energy that could pause corruption did not flow when held by Subaru, nor many other wasteland Artists who tried.

Nagisa, for being so exceptional and for being able to wield such a unique weapon, began to wear a red uniform, as opposed to the trademark green that symbolized the plantlife the Artists wanted to return to the wasteland.

Mao, who was under Subaru, began to suggest that they travel to the epicenter of the wasteland to investigate a potential source of the corruption. Nagisa agreed, but as Artists tried and failed to make it to the center, the cluster of the swords they left behind as they went mad were stabbed into the ground, and the look of their abandoned weapons gave the epicenter the name of the Steel Garden.

As the day grew closer for Nagisa to lead their best Artists into the Steel Garden, they began to prepare. Mao had tried, just like every other Artist, to wield Nagisa's sword in case he got corrupted one day, but the same outcome happened. The energy did not flow correctly.

A year before the trip, Midori also tried the sword. At first, people were ecstatic; it worked! The energy flowed exactly like Nagisa's! Except it gave him horrible nightmares and a feeling of sick dread as soon as he touched the hilt. He refused to touch it ever again, but he was the other Artist to wear the red uniform, much to his immense dismay. They did keep trying among the remaining Artists, but only one succeeded, only to react exactly like Midori and corrupt just a week later.

As the year passed and more Artists corrupted, there were soon just four left: Nagisa, Subaru, Mao, and Midori. Deciding that it was now or never, Nagisa led them into the epicenter.

When they arrived, they were confronted by someone. A tall figure with dark hair and a calm aura.

I won't give all the details just yet, though.

In the end, they presented Nagisa with a deal. An opportunity. And Nagisa, thinking back to someone close to him that he lost long ago, took the deal, and plunged his sword into the ground among the hundreds of others. Subaru ordered a retreat, which Mao followed. Midori was frozen with fear, but eventually, he was let go as well, only after he was purposefully spared by the stranger and supposed hero. He ran away as fast as he could.

After all, though Nagisa's sword would have been useful, Midori just couldn't bring himself to pick it up.

He ran back to the barracks, leaving the mysterious person and Nagisa behind. He searched the place, expecting Mao and Subaru, only to find the whole area empty, not a soul in sight. He sits down, terrified, and desperately wonders what to do now.

That is where my story starts.

sidney "sid" crosby, center, #87: the number one draft pick of his year and arguably the best 200ft player of all time. child of god. youngest captain in NHL history (a feat he now shared with other 18yo captains). if i talk about him too much i'll cry.

evgeni "geno" malkin, center, #71: the other head of the two headed monster, one of the best players of all time, criminally underrated and one of the funniest, most charismatic players to grace us with his presence. drafted 2nd in 2004 to the pens. a physical and emotionally-driven player. also he's 6'5".

"At first, it was an arranged marriage. Thanks to the way the ping-pong balls bounced in the NHL draft lottery process, Crosby and Malkin were thrust together into the Penguins lineup about 10 years ago whether they liked it or not. As it turns out, they liked it.” [x]

FIRST THINGS FIRST: BREAKING HISTORY

the NHL, in its history, has had several "lockouts" where the players union and the league itself cannot come to terms and thus the season is delayed or paused.

in the 2004-2005 season, for the first and only time, an entire season was cancelled. they did not even award the stanley cup, which was the first time that had happened since 1919.

AND OUR PROTAGONISTS WERE SUPPOSED TO START PLAYING TOGETHER IN THIS VERY SEASON. THE FUTURE OF HOCKEY WAS LITERALLY AT STAKE, OUR LOVERS ARE SEPARATED BY THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, A LANGUAGE BARRIER, AND GREEDY FUCKHEADS.

sid crosby had been drafted #1 as the coming savior of the penguins franchise, and geno malkin had been selected from russia to join the cause and was supposed to make his NHL debut, but the lockout kept him stuck in russia.

the lockout end is in sight but geno is under pressure from his hometown team to sign. geno doesn't want to, but he gets strong-armed into it, and immediately regrets it. he wants to be in the NHL.

so escapades ensue that would be more at home in a cold war film. geno and his agent, on an away game in helsinki, flee. they hide out, get to a US embassy to apply for a via, and like thieves in the night, abscond to los angeles. he then made his way to pittsburgh.

geno met sid on his first night there and they fell in love at first sight.

"I just always liked him from the start. Always have. Always will." - Sid

"Pittsburgh is lucky to have Sid. We are all lucky for Sid." - Geno

THE TWO-HEADED MONSTER

for their careers, these two fuckers have been attached at the hip both by breaking milestones and by breaking their bodies. they were affectionately named "the two headed monster" for their ruthless domination on the ice, with their relentless ferocity at puck control as well as their borderline telepathic plays. they would, rightly, not always be on the same line (they work best as special teams together) because of how good they both are as centers. they're puck-hungry and shoot-happy and smart as hell when it comes to hockey IQ, sid is the master of 'little moves that add up in a big way' while thinking ten steps ahead, and geno is the 'opportunistic stalker' waiting to pounce and if he can't pounce he bodies them until he scores anyways. they are THE duo of their era!!

their legacies are deeply intertwined, a fact both of them are very happy about. both of them see the other as family, with geno seeing sid as like an uncle to his son nikita, and sid deeply invested in keeping geno as a pen for life.

tale #1: the stanley cup photo

they won the stanley cup 3 times!! 2009, and then back-tobacks in 2016/2017. their spiritual predecessors, mario lemiuex and jaromir jagr, had taken a photo of them holding the cup, and it became part of penguins legacy, two of the most important players in the franchise.

geno was adamant they get a matching picture, but in the chaos of the first cup, it was missed. the second time - a long awaited win in 2016, after recovering from sid's horrific concussion and geno's knee injuries - they forgot again. geno, on the day of game 6 against nashville, ordered a staff member to take a picture of himself and sid "no matter what" and they did :)

tale #2: "me three years superleague" [8771]

hockey has a tradition - last on, last off. this ritual is both superstitious and a sign of respect. shenanigans about this are rampant, including rock-paper-scissors and trying to trick opponents in order to be the one to leave last. sid crosby, superstitious king, is notorious for his inability to be chill about his routines.

anyways, sid went last. until geno came along. sid offered rock-paper-scissors, but geno hit him with "me three years superleague" meaning he had been in the KHL (russian pro hockey) for 3 years to sid's single year in the NHL. sid, because it's geno, accepted - and from that day forward, they do a special fistbump. sid goes, and geno follows. the last on. always. [except for weird times like the first game of the season and then we LOSE superstitions are REAL!]

tale #3 "putting down a mutiny"

okay so during sid's concussion, he was out of play for a while. like, over a year. and during that time, in 2011 specifically, the question naturally came up of whether or not someone else should temporarily replace him as captain (as the practice is typically for an 'A' [alternate] captain to take the place until he returns) but this means they'd be OFFICIAL captains.

except this question was no longer just being posed by the media....but by players on the penguins. so the story goes, a meeting was held within the locker room involving two camps of players: 4 in favor of replacing sid (brooks orpik, jordan staal, craig adams, matt cooke) and the 4 vehemently against it (pascal dupuis, marc-andre fleury, arron asham, and of course geno)

during the heated conversation, geno ended it with "Sid is the fucking captain." and then walked the fuck out like a boss. end of story, geno's loyalty is the stuff of legend. he even fought one of the mutineers (adams) during practice over it. alas, the rumors and speculation persisted, and the team had had enough.

so in 2012, most of the penguins players used tape to put the letter 'C' on their practice jerseys for their captain. geno taped a 'K' because it's kapitan in russian. sid's the fucking captain.

tale #4: bonded pair do not separate

this covers a few instances, but basically, geno being underrated and sid being the GOAT means sometimes people who are not sid and geno need to be reminded of how the world works.

for example, when the pens GM at the time said that only sid was untouchable during trade season, sid - who does not normally involve himself in player negotiations - laid down the law that geno was also untouchable: "It's me and Geno."

during geno's rookie years, he told his friend/teammate/interpreator sergei gonchar that he wanted to play "only for Pittsburgh, always with Sid." and has kept true to that promise through tense negotiations.

and sometimes that means being paid a little more. the "crosby cap" in the unofficial-official rule that nobody is allowed to be paid more than sid, and nobody is allowed to wear a jersey number higher than his. his contract is $8.7mil, but to keep geno, it was going to have to be higher. sid responded "does that mean we get to keep him?" because he does not give a fuck about money. he proved that again by signing an extension this year for 8.7mil again despite the fact he's the face of the franchise, captain, and s tier player because he cares more about the team and franchise than he does money. geno too, he's consistently taken "team friendly" deals instead of leaving to be paid as a superstar.

"He's a Pittsburgh Penguin forever, like me." -Geno, talking about Sid's extension.

during 2022 management was not sly about taking shots at geno, lowballing him during negotiations and basically telling him to take it or leave it. fuck you ron hextall u flyers plant u nearly killed this franchise and we're going to be paying for ur fuckery for years to come i wish lil nikita had high-sticked u it would have been KARMA. it took the combined efforts of sid, kris letang, and coach mike sullivan to assuage geno. and when hextall, under collusion from the new management, wanted to break up the Big Three (aka keep sid but break up letang and geno) during an interview sid gave a not-so-thinly veiled threat: "I think they know how I feel." and after a very, very dramatic rest of the season hextall and burke and pryer were fired :) geno has admitted he nearly left the pens because of them but now has reaffirmed he'll never leave and half-joked that he'll play as long as sid does or until his body gives out on him. jesus christ geno could u be any less subtle.

kris letang, geno malkin, and sid crosby are the longest tenured teammates (going on their 20th season) in north american sports history. penguins mate for life.

they just love each other so much man. geno has shrines to sid in all of his houses and jokes that his son's favorite player is sid, he thinks sid is the best player and the best person, he is fiercely loyal and both of them have a habit of brushing aside their own records and milestones for the other. sid is a very private person but clearly loves geno and gets this dopey, sweet smile and light in his eyes when reporters ask about how many of their milestones are linked together as much as their legacies. sid can, has, and will threaten anyone who even thinks about trying to take geno away from him. sid thinks it's funny he knocked geno on his ass during practice one time and how geno tries to give him another concussion by shooting pucks at him during power play practice. their hugs across the years are pure joy and it's a miracle they didn't fucking hurt each other in some of those flying leap tackles. that time they hosted a bunch of kids and geno was joking they werent chanting his name except then when they were on the ice he was hyping them up for sid's chant, and when asked who his best friend on the team is sid immediately pointed to geno and coach sullivan was yelling about how it was a set up. and when geno first came to the US and couldnt speak english, they could still speak hockey together. about how geno is almost half a foot taller than sid and spent years being known as "the bully" and still he always differentially leaned down when sid is talking on the ice. how they find each other in cellies and look for each other first when theyre on the bench and celebrating. geno chanting "MVP" loudly when sid was doing media and sid laughing about it. geno has penguins hats made with sid's name on them (and his own and tanger too!) and he wears them all the time. geno fucking with sid all the time because he's hilarious and sid not only tolerating it but laughing with him.

these fucks are old in hockey years. most players last 5 years in the NHL. they're at 20, and have a few more years left in them. and their relationship is one of the most special in the league, and in hockey history - few players stay on a team for life, few are so impactful to the game. they're both going straight to the Hall of Fame, they have personal hardware and 3 cups between them and plenty of records in both the league and franchise, and they've done it together. we only get them for a little while longer, so let's enjoy it ♥

spoilers for DQXI ahead!

I went back and replayed some more DQXI yet again yesterday (I play a good chunk of it every week on stream for my chat and I always loredump and theorise with them as we play haha) but I had missed a few weeks due to the recent funeral and other irl distractions. But going back to it was like coming home and. man. man. Hendrik. Hendrik my special boy who I love so dearly. I could talk about him for weeks, he has rewired my brain chemistry. I'm pretty sure you followed me for my KH stuff in general but DQXI is another square enix game and to me Hendrik has a nice overlap with the way I characterise my version of Isa. Hendrik is a big brooding dad type of guy who begins as an antagonist to the player due to being misled, lied to and betrayed; as the game goes on you realise that not only is he the most powerful thing in-game but that he is wracked with survivors guilt, catholic guilt, imposters guilt, every kind of guilt imaginable, he's a giant socially awkward unstoppable force teddy bear man who is the worlds most revered hero, destiny's chosen strongman, a horsegirl and a clown and I will never tire of talking about him he is just so so special to me. He's so pretty. I think I spend most of my time playing DQXI either deep-diving into lore/theories or just going 'god look how pretty Sylvando is. Look how pretty Hendrik is. I love them. I love them so much' lmaoooooo (a lot of people pair Hendrik and Jasper together and I totally get that but I love Sylv and Hendrik winding up together, they just work so well as a pair, they fit together so nicely auuugh)

One of the things we talked about in my last DQXI stream was that right at the start of act 2, when Hendrik is at your side but not a party member yet, (and hes only just getting over his projection of angst onto you and he's trying so hard to be better already and he dedicates himself to you there and then pretty much), in the throne room of Heliodor's ruined castle where Hendrik once served you fight the Spectral Sentinel Tyriant, and we discussed the possibility that Tyriant might just be the reanimated dead body of Arnout, the former king of Zwaardsrust (Hendrik's original home, which was razed to the earth when he was just a little boy.....). The size of the body, the way it fights, the fact that the orb it is designated is the purple orb, which was buried in the ruins of Zwaardsrust..... awauaugh I love this game so much and I am obsessed with digging up lore and playing with it, especially the stuff revolving around Sylv and Hendrik haha

I just. I love the guy. He has so much grief and inner turmoil and layers and the entirety of Act 2 is him learning to be a person again and trusting those around him, pushing through his internalised blame (with debatable results) and just trying to heal while out on the road. I'm just. obsessed with him. My big purple wife 💜

here are some messy notes I did recently for the next instalment in my Open Wounds series, which is about Hendrik dealing with his emotions regarding Norberto (Sylvando) and their strange, budding relationship -

Thank you, my darling. It hung in his ears. Hendrik had followed Sylvando to the Stallion and back five times over, carrying whatever burden he was issued, internally leashed by those words of praise. In order to save the world, one needed provisions. The ship needed stocking. Hendrik was only doing his duty. It was merely a boon that he did so whilst looking at Sylvando's back, sauntering ahead of him, smile easy and reputation preceding him. The scarlet clouds ought to make the clown vanish into gloom, as it had yesterday, yet spirits seemed to have risen. Like Hendrik's own flesh, perhaps the world was healing, just a little. The clown's presence certainly gave the impression of that effect. The longer they were in Gondolia, the more people came out of hiding, the more townsfolk did business with them, the more smiles began to appear. Conversations were had with shopkeepers that Hendrik did not understand - don't you worry, honey, those Beastly Boys aren't so anymore! They've done me very proud since last I was here - and Sylvando glittered under Erdwin’s Lantern, a thought that was both horrid and harpsichordical; in times of strife and despite any grief, the strong flourish and bloom, and to observe a knight perform his duty and be one with the people, taking hands and offering encouraging words, offers of support, promises to repair, all while doom crept ready to be taken down, it offered Hendrik a cacophony of implacable feelings that he really could do nothing with. He just followed, experiencing it, fascinated by the way civilians recognised the two of them, recognised that the two of them were together, recognised that the two of them were different, and then recognised that the two of them were the same. 

Shamefully, Hendrik had almost forgotten to think of Jasper. Shamefully, he still rather had.

The only time Hendrik's mind had drifted to Jasper was when, as they gathered materials together, idly talking about nothing - and by the Gods it was nice to talk at all, to be able to talk at all with him - Sylvando regaled some airy tale of a time when he had discovered some squeaky little mousies had made snuck aboard his ship and tried to make a nest in a gap in the pantry floorboards. He talked of how he had kept an eye on them, left small amounts of food near the opening to save the mice from gnawing through sacks and taking more than their share. Sylvando had scooped them out the next time they moored and freed them, finding some snug shrub to set their fluffy little hiding place under and watching them scurry away. He had told the story, again, smiling, faint gestures with his hands, harmless, pressureless, filling the silence. It was rather admirable, and Hendrik could not help but think that it spoke of Sylvando's character, a character that had not changed despite everything else changing so much. Norberto had tried to bring home a wild sabrecub once - his father forbade it, for obvious reasons. But the boy - and now the jester - had always been able to see the good in all things, had always had a soft spot for creatures in need of aid. 

Hendrik's back tingled.

Sylvando had cared for rodents aboard his vessel, had refused to outright kill pests that, by all means, he could have and perhaps should have to ensure the ship was clean and safe and without burden. Instead he had left tissue nearby for them to nest with, crumbs and peeling nearby for them to eat, and had personally made sure that the mice had a real home as soon as he was physically able to, carrying them to where they ought to be with gentle hands and no doubt nurturing words.

Vermin, Jasper would have said. Disgusting, vile, loathsome little cockroach-beasts. He would have raised his boot over them and brought it down swiftly with a wrinkled nose and curled-back lip. 

If we pass where I left them, I'll show you, Sylvando had turned to him and said, smile light and charming. It's the finest little mouse-house around! I bet none of their other forest friends have purple crepe paper and ribbons adorning their humble abode, eh? Those little stowaways got only the best - I'd have nothing less on my ship, you know.

Hendrik peered out of the window, stood in the belly of The Stallion.

DNI if you ship characters with abusive dynamics. I did not go through horrific situations with people who should've protected me just for some creep on the internet to treat it like a quirky yaoi dynamic. The only exception to this is if it's done to cope and not portrayed in a positive light.

If you're here to cringe at my content, then all I really say is my friend, we don't have to fight. I consider myself a nice friend. We could probably be friends. I'm a good engager, I can match people's energy well even if I don't quite understand the subject. I'm fine with disagreeing on people and seldom make a big deal out of differing beliefs, heck, I'm even friends with a few conservatives. AXYER's more of a stage name I prefer to be called if we're not too familiar with each other, Chimney's just a general name, and Heart is more of a friendly name if we're talking more casually. I am a being birthed by the madness of Entropy that looms on urban towers in the scintillating moonlight dedicated to my resentment of everyone around me. You'd think the God of Moon and Emotion would get a lot more done with this power. You'd be mistaken.

I love psychology, like a lot. I consider myself to be at the point where I even know ✨🔍👁️ Forbidden Knowledge 👁️🔎✨. I'll let you figure out what that means. 😉

My most fondest corners of psychology would be trauma responses, child psychology + child development, behavioural psychology, and the effects of internalisations and conditioning. I'm veeeeery well-versed in mental illness but I don't consider it one of my primary psych interests. I know most about anxiety disorders!

I'm also VERY VERY big into writing!!! I absolutely LOVE fiction, and I think it's a very vital thing for a lot of people's happiness. Fiction is magical, and I think it's beautiful how much it can shape people and their sense of what makes them happy. I LOVE crossover AUs, like, REAAAAAAALLY REALLY love crossover AUs, like, basically every single one of my main stories are crossover AUs, like the kind where five-hundred different fandoms exist in one big town together.

I also love zoology, sociology, astronomy, biomes, modern Iceland/Icelandic culture, winter/night aesthetics, fashion, trains, photography, coding (I'm just starting, though!), and a few more my busy brain can't afford me to think of right now. My main interests in psychology are trauma responses and my main interest in writing is character-writing and worldbuilding!

I consider myself an honest person, and I really don't like lying to people. I try not to be blunt but it slips out sometimes, and I really dislike sugarcoating things. If you need honesty, I want to give you honesty! I don't think people can properly change if they're not given a right step in the right direction, so I try to be as honest as can be. If I don't feel like I can be honest with you, often times that's a bad sign in our friendship. Honesty is a big thing to me!

I find that getting immersed in a good story is very healthy for the soul, just as long as you don't wade too deep that you can't pull yourself out. My dreams are to bring my silly, self-indulgent stories to the world and help people get lost in them, too, even if for only a little bit. Nothing brings me more joy than the idea of helping people get lost somewhere they feel safe, if not thrilled from the drama rather than poisoned.

The primary ones would be:

-Pillow Club, a very self-indulgent AU where fictional characters from all sorts of worlds beyond the perceivable multiverse live inside of modern rural Iceland, with a lot of supernatural worldbuilding but ultimately restricted to urban fantasy. The main cast lives within the Pillow Club, a big, apartment complex-esque building where characters live for free at the cost of stricter living conditions, run by a certain well-known rabbit serial killer man with a lot of secrets. It's intended to have similar stakes to a more exaggerated, supernatural slice-of-life version of reality; there's no overarching goal, characters go about things as they do and conflicts and goals change as life happens. The main protagonists are all from niche to semi-niche stories, namely my AUs of the such.

-Untitled Chonny Jash AU (yes that's the actual AU name), a Chonny's Charming Chaos Compendium AU in-which Cameron (Whole), a severely tormented child, suddenly has two bizarre animal-like creatures split off for him after becoming emancipated at only (roughly) thirteen. The two ids, Heart, an angelic, purple id with a boisterous and friendly disposition, and Mind, a robotic, shark-like blue id with a much more reserved, awkward, and stoic (yet well-meaning) personality come to be Cameron's only joy in life, and he raises the two the best he can (which thankfully, they age extremely fast) and they're one happy family, until Cameron loses his humanity and becomes an id as well. Heart and Mind not only face hurt from Cameron's family, but soon, Cameron himself; now Soul.

-And finally Elsewhere Reflective, which you may learn about on my superhero account. :)

In-case you can't tell, I have a knack for extreme canon-divergence. It's just how I roll.

As for DNI? Well, DNIs aren't exactly… known for their effectiveness. All I'll say is if you're a com-shipper, I'm blocking you, you're mean and you make me extremely uncomfortable and I don't want to fight you. I do also tend to block for whatever reason, if you simply make me uncomfortable I'll block you. No hard feelings.

Oh also Jashshippers. Jashshippers get out, like now, like, right now.

I'm also a (Villain) Heart fictionkin! I'm not comfortable with other Heart fictionkins (or any type of Heart identifier, really, even if it's only one of your identities), so I apologise.

As mentioned and implied several times now, I HATE arguing and I am TERRIBLE with conflict. I'm willing to debate so long as you're polite about it and can agree to disagree (without insulting myself or my intelligence, Shae), but generally speaking I don't like to fight people and am an extremely sensitive person.

Here's the things I absolutely will not discuss:

-My stance on DID/OSDD, there's a lotta misinformation and disagreement on a lotta things on it so I'm just not comfy talkin about it m'ny'alright? I'll say two things: it's a real disorder and anyone who accuses people of faking things are losers.

-Trashtalking, I dealt with it enough at my old house and have dealt with it enough in the past at an all-girls highschool and I do not condone it whatsoever. I'm fine if you need to vent or you're just telling me an interesting conflict in a friend group (that I am NOT apart of!!!!!! Do NOT make me your rumour person knucklehead!!!!!) but I draw the line at genuinely insulting people and spreading rumours!

-My stance on the USA election. Another "you can't win" situation. Please leave me out of most politics in-general, I try to avoid that on this blog as I want my blog to be something I can look back on and not feel stressed about. Yes, I hate Trump.

-Tumblr controversy. I try my very hardest to be nice to everyone regardless on if I like them or not and if you let me know they're not cool, I'll distance myself, but please don't try to go after me if I'm still nice to them. I'm quite literally nice to everyone lest you REALLY hurt me, which only a select few people have and even then none of them are allowed on this blog.

hellloooooo ask for you amy. tell me about a minor character from your writing / worldbuilding

Thank you for watering my crops (giving me enrichment in my enclosure) by sending an ask

The unfortunate thing here is that my creative process is largely TOP DOWN, rather than BOTTOM UP, so I have a lot of CONCEPTS and some smaller scale details about the world, but in terms of CHARACTERS? Almost every named character has a pretty direct impact on the main plot and I can't really say much about them without getting into a bit more detail about the bits of worldbuilding or story they're connected to than I want to publicly post about.

And yet, behold, I must put a page break anyway.

The first one (and really almost ONLY one) that comes to mind is Jones/"Jonesy", a character who will be introduced in chapter 1 (like, opening scene), and won't have much (if any) relevance after that point, but saying much about him would require going into detail about the organization he works for, The House of Cards, which is kind of like a John Wick style Continental/High Table thing that's REALLY INTERESTING but too much of a "some data scraper would love to grab this idea for some company to steal and copyright" risk for me to really want to discuss outside of like, private messaging.

YOU, SPECIFICALLY, I would be willing to talk to about it if you wanted to maybe add me on discord. There's a NUMBER of things from the world and story I would love to loredump about and get your thoughts on, honestly.

He's basically the character who acts as a sort of messenger/recruiter who brings Ash into the first arc of the plot. There's not all that much to say about him because his role is SO minor (unless something changes). All the interesting stuff about him is really stuff about "The House" (think "The House Always Wins").

The House of Cards is divided into factions based on the suits in a deck of cards. The card suits in this world do not perfectly correlate to the ones we know (there are six instead of four, for starters). The ranks/authority/responsibility/clearance levels are based on the face value of the cards. Jones is a Star (the suit for messengers, couriers, etc. think of stars as the "connect the dots" faction), and his rank is 7. Rank 7s are called "Luckies". So "Jonesy" is a Lucky Star. And yes this WAS set up just to make it an Alien reference.

I would LOVE to say more, because the House is one of my favorite factions in the lore, but not on tumblr.

Almost every named character that currently exists exists because they are relevant to some specific organization, historic/lore event, or worldbuilding concept that I can't super comfortably talk about. Or, alternatively, there just isn't much to say about them.

There's a vampire-owned nightclub type space in the raunchier part of the main plot city (basically a red light district, might call it something like the Scarlet Borough depending on how I end up dividing the city up). The club is most likely called Crimsin and it functions as both a vampire safehouse and a kink space with a focus on S&M and particularly bloodplay (think consensual vampire feeding). The vampire who runs it is either Victoria Sarkov or Alina Caedir, I haven't decided. More likely Victoria. Alina probably does something else. I have not made fleshed out backstories for either of them currently, apart from an alternate cross between them being used as a character in my Forgotten Realms campaign. Which won't be relevant for this, since it's a fully original setting.

They're not huge fans of Cass. Cass is a very unusual vampire created in a very specific way who had some very specific experiences that all wrapped up into making her DECISIVELY the most powerful vampire in the world. Cass is basically a "first generation" vampire created DIRECTLY by some very powerful magic, and the circumstances of the casting made the spell especially potent. The vampires on Une aren't. Cass would be, as a base, the equivalent of an Original from TVDverse, plus some telekinetic abilities. Plus the equivalent of a Planeswalker spark. Plus a general massive power boost she got during the Horizon War when she drank the blood of .... something I won't talk about here. :)

Victoria doesn't love that she isn't the top of the food chain (especially considering Cass is much younger than her, and not originally from the same world), but for the most part they keep their distance from each other. Ash sometimes bothers Victoria for information. Vic tolerates this for 2 reasons: Ash is very, very tasty (there are Reasons for this) and an occasional patron in good standing, and Cass (whom Ash is very close with) is one of the only people that can substantially threaten Vic, although she's not likely to without a reason.

It's in Vic's best interest not to give her one.

Most of Une's vampires are a little intimidated by and somewhat resentful of Cass because she's one of their only real threats. For the most part Cass is utterly indifferent to them and minds her own business because she couldn't care less about vampire politics.

The other meaningful threat to vampires is angels, since they're the other major group of innately powerful semi-immortal people. Saints (the most populous of the angel subtypes in the Inner Realms) make up a meaningful percentage of the main city's governmental structure and especially law enforcement (kind of like Ravnica's Boros Legion). They also mostly leave vampires alone as long as they're not causing problems. Vampires are a known quantity of the world, but they're not a contagion that will spread uncontrollably without interference. Becoming a vampire is a slow and very much intentional process, it's not something that can really happen by accident. The only time vampires are a problem are when there are problem vampires, and problem vampires are usually dealt with by the rest of vampire society.

For the most part, the best way to keep vampires in check is to let vampires keep EACH OTHER in check. So places like Crimsin do not operate outside the law, they're just a fact of the world.
