Carlos grabs the hem of TK’s hoodie and tugs. “Stay low,” he hisses, looking around. They’re hiding behind some tires, while Carlos plots their escape route.

TK laughs and Carlos shoots him a look. TK clears his throat and almost manages to compose himself. Until he lets out a little snort, which sets him off again.

“You’re not taking this seriously,” Carlos says. “This is all your fault!”

“And you’re taking this a little too seriously. It’s laser tag,” TK points out. “And how is it my fault? You’re the one that can hit any target from across the room!!” TK says.

Carlos rolls his eyes. “Yes, but then you had to get cocky about it and now they hate us.”

“I didn’t get cocky about- wait, what’s Mateo doing?”

Carlos watches as Mateo runs in a not-so-graceful zig-zag towards their hiding spot. He’s not being stealthy and they know he’s bait, trying to lure them out.

They watch as he takes cover behind a partition and Carlos shakes his head.

“I’ve never lost a round of laser tag,” Carlos says. “And I don’t intend to start now.”

“Okay, what do I do?” TK asks.

“Paul is up top behind the stack of tires on the east side of the course. Marjan is up there with him,” Carlos whispers. He points to an open stretch of the course without any obstacles to hide behind. “Look, they’re gonna head this way. When they do, they’re going to have to cross the north side and they won’t have anywhere to hide.”

TK grins and bites his lip. “God, do you know how sexy you are when you do that?” He looks around before hooking his hand in the top of Carlos’ vest and reeling him in for a kiss. The kiss is soft and sweet and Carlos isn’t expecting it. He freezes for a second too long before pulling away.

“What are you doing?” He hisses. “They’re gonna find us!”

“Oh, we found you.” He hears Marjan say from directly behind him. He looks around and realizes they’re surrounded; Nancy is behind TK while Paul and Mateo approach at his nine and three o’clock, respectively.

Carlos gives TK a betrayed look when he realizes he’s been set up- and that his husband had something to do with it.

“I’m sorry,” TK whines immediately. “They made me!”

“They made you?” Carlos repeats incredulously. “Hey, now. Can we talk about this?” Carlos tries as the remaining members of the 126 raise their guns towards him.

“Nope.”

They all fire at different targets on his vest. His vest flashes and as the lights fade he turns toward TK.

“You know they set you up too, right?”

“What?”

“Yeah, about that,” Nancy says. “He’s right.” She raises her gun and fires, hitting the target directly on TK’s back. His vest flashes and vibrates, then goes dark.

There’s some general high-giving and cheering before everyone realizes the game is technically still in-progress. Nancy and Mateo take off in one direction while Paul and Marjan split in the other, leaving TK and Carlos alone in the middle of the arena.

“Did that just happen?” TK asks.

“Yes, yes it did,” Carlos says. “Your friends betrayed us.” He adds as both vests light up again.

“Well, at least we have each other.”

“You’re on your own,” Carlos says.

He fires at one of the targets on TK’s vest and the vest goes dark once again.

“I deserve that,” TK says. Carlos just laughs as he disappears into the arena.

renate lives in a world where dwarves only really get magic from the spirits of their ancestors -- people who did some amazing feat in the past and now are revered by their society. renate comes from a family that is directly descended from one of these ancestor spirits, renate (original flavor). she was named after her ancestor in some "look how great our daughter is going to be" way. so. pressure.

but she thrives under the pressure. she has an older brother -- age difference just small enough to live at home together for a little bit but large enough to not be close -- she watches him sail through life being Perfect at everything, effortlessly connecting with and getting magic from renate (original flavor), and she thinks "yes, this is achievable" and gets to it.

so she goes through her teens and into early adulthood determined to be the Best at Everything, and she is. except it doesn't come easy. she spends all her free time locked away in her room studying and practicing and pretending that she's not. she lies a lot to make it look easy, but she doesn't consider it lying, really -- it's aspirational. it's harmless. it's what she is in her head.

and then she gets to the point where she decides it's time to start reaching out to her ancestor, and spends hundreds of hours working on a LARGE intricate stone inscription (one of the only things she does that she actually really loves) lovingly depicting the history of her ancestor's greatest feat -- defeating an archfey goblin king that was terrorizing her people. and renate tries every. day. to connect to her ancestor. and every day she can't. and maybe she spends a little too long carefully carving the face of the archfey adversary -- it's only because if you revere a hero, if you believe what they did was remarkable, you have to believe in the power of their enemy.

so when renate connects to Something, she assumes it's her ancestor and runs to her community to celebrate. but the magic is just a little off. the color is just a little bit too sickeningly greenish alongside the copper of her brother's. not enough to really worry, but hey, she's only level one.

Okay- so I’m totally disappointing you on this one. A while back I wrote Lost and Found which was based on the soulmate trope that when you lose something it winds up in your soulmate’s possession.

I had a couple requests for a sequel but didn’t know what to do with it. Until now. @noxsoulmate and @sanjuwrites helped my brainstorm one day and I got all the pieces figured out.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time and did not get any farther than numbering my first section. So there will not be a snippet of this one.

25. What’s your favorite decade? 

Well, I have some internal nostalgia for like. Objects? from the 90s? I miss how tactile everything used to be, VCRs and cassette tapes and clunky ass house phones and 8 trillion pound TVs you could beat on a little if they weren't getting signal right. But I don't really long for the social or political conditions of the past, I'm like. sort of banking on the hope that my favorite decade will be one of the future ones. I wanna see what happens, I just hope it ends up being good.

26. What are some seemingly childish things you like? 

apple juice boxes, animated series like Gravity Falls or Over the Garden Wall, talking in baby talk (usually to animals but also to myself lmfao), laying around thinking up anime AMVs. Idrk what I actually think is childish, but I know that a lot of times silly harmless things we like get classed that way, so yeah. stuff like this I guess lmfao. I love enjoying things.

27. What’s your favorite book? Or just one you’ve read a few times? 

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, by Stephen King, is one of my very most favorites, I think I've read that book like 15 times. the whole LOTR series, Inkheart, Faerie Wars, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. I'm reading Demons by Dostoyevsky rn which is really interesting. I used to read really avidly lmfao, but I feel like my brain has turned into cauliflower in recent years.

She thinks of him as... fairly handsome, but more importantly one of the most trustworthy of the remnants of the Crystal Braves. Of all of them, he is the most reliable. Not only does he come to [her] to inform about his suspicions of Ilberd, but he's the one that takes over for Thancred once he gets yoinked. A real guard hound-- reliable and friendly-- if there was a Eorzean equivalent to such.

Their relationship is pretty amiable. In the rare moments they're around each other they definitely give a warm hello to one another. Maybe a drink or two?

I don't think she understands a word of what he's saying though. Thieves Cant is already pretty difficult, but Limsa/Roegadyn dialect is like a foreign language to her despite living so long there (to much comedic effect).

... As an aside, I think him and Thancred would get along really well but in the best/worst way possible. They've definitely made unscrupulous bets together about her. Just sayin'.

sorry to talk about the topic again but honestly i think the whole ‘fail rp’ problem really comes down to the fact that the admins had initially said that purgatory 2 wasn’t canon to quesadilla island and the lore there wouldn’t overlap with the lore on the main island BUT that if the cc’s wanted to they could make it canon to their own character and personal lore.

so bad’s initial plan was that 1/3 of himself was transported to purgatory (the bloodthirsty part of him) while 2/3’s of himself were still on the main island (the more relaxed and chill side of him). and this would have worked fine with the fact that again, purgatory 2 wasn’t supposed to be canon unless the cc’s wanted it to be.

but then baghera and cellbit showed up and it threw bad for a loop because them being there DOES kind of throw a wrench in the whole ‘purgatory 2 isn’t canon to quesadilla island’ thing. because now he doesn’t know what parts of purgatory are canon and what parts aren’t and since he wasn’t warned about it before hand he just tried to do his best to compensate for it. him telling richas and pomme that their parents are alive makes sense for his character because like ??? why wouldn’t he tell them that 😭😭😭 but i think he ended up retconning that conversation as a whole and any other convo’s he had with people because he was stuck on how to proceed with his initial plan (his mind being split).

he has said that maybe it could work by having those conversations be taken as happening AFTER purgatory and while he does want purgatory 2 to be canon to his character he is fine with it not being canon if that’s what everyone / the admins decide.
