tiara has gone through about four black pens in the last three hours, each one burning out on the printer paper she scoured the abandoned back office of the clawliday inn for. he still has a handful more in the bag they came in, scored for two dollars with his player discount at the baltimore crabs gift shop and engraved with the team name in slightly-off printed faux-gold leaf.

when the fifth gives out, nothing to show for it but a bunch of scribbles and crossed out starts-stops of various poems, tiara gives up and throws the whole pack at the wall.

deborah's landing used to be nicer when she was a kid, she remembers. refurbished for ghosts and blaseball players alike, left to rot through its second decline after the black hole swallowed up everything and the decade of falls. it's emptier now than it ever was then. no spindlewheel cards left on bedside tables, no crackling radios, no messages in steamed mirrors or imprints in the carpet or new guestbook signatures or -

new ghosts. no new ghosts. tiara has to have turned over every piece of furniture in this place looking, especially feverish after rami's incineration, but they just... aren't here. he doesn't know if they know how to get there. he doesn't know if they know to look.

tiara looks back at her paper. badly drawn fires line the edges, smudges of ink from the sides of his hands easily mistakable for ash, if you tilt your head. metaphors about ash, about fire, about umpires, about anything fill the page, but none of them fit. none of them mean anything at all. not everything feels like something else, she remembers, mouth twisting into a frown.

there was a psychopomp on the crabs, once. tiara doesn't remember if she became one before or after she died, but she remembers the way nora helped organize the guestbook, how she taught tiara a handful of names for ghosts who stayed faint and distant. the ghosts are people, and he doesn't want to erase those boundaries, the walls he's spent so long building just to stop getting things asked of him that are too much for any one person to bear.

but rami and chae were teammates. friends. that doesn't change now that they're dead, either.

tiara wonders how to ask the old guard the steps to becoming a bridge.

I respect and think it's more fun ultimately how committed shadow is to the backpack magnetshot method, but it was sort of funny to hear after mob reminded us that he has the power to levitate people lol

I know it's incredibly silly to think about like, languages, when this whole fictional show has a wild and incredible premise, but just for a moment, it was fun to think about what language would be written down on the notecards (so Marn didn't have to voice so many NPCs), and what language everyone is speaking and if there's like a universal translator effect from the train?? this doesn't matter at all, just thought about it for a moment bc of the notecard joke lol

Trish's commitment to "the conductor is a stand user" theory is giving me Drawtectives "a rhinoceros did it" theory, and it's very funny to hear her build up to it again and everyone else start groaning 😄

I don't know if we'll ever get the crew meeting One-One, but if they did, my guess is maybe only Trish would possibly like them? My other guess is that Shadow would hate One-One almost immediately, but I could be wrong
