What fandoms do you write in?

Currently Dead Boy Detectives. It’s the fandom I’ve published the most for. Gotta' pay tribute to my roots as a Ninja Turtle fan, though. One day I will publish another chapter of that space clones fic...

How many words have you published in 2024?

AO3 says 67,256, but 57,966 words is more accurate, because it doesn’t count the fics I just went into and added art chapters to from last year. I’ve got roughly another 12k words spread across my wips so far, not including notes, though. {:

And I’ve got some extra free time lined up for this winter, so tune into my AO3 around Christmas time. Shit’s about to go crazy.  Hopefully.

What is your greatest achievement this year?

Making my tumblr account!! Glad to finally be socializing with the fandom, instead of just sitting quietly in my own weird corner. Nice to talk to people outside of AO3 comments. I’m very happy about all of the friends I’ve made. <3<3<3

What are your top three fics you’ve written this year?

Oof. Making me choose my favorites. If I have to choose three though...

What have you learned?

If you want to get something done, make it a one shot. That’s the best way for me to write at least. Not that I didn’t have a great time with my multi chapter fics this year, but I really like snapshot stories. In the Garden is some of the best writing I’ve ever done, and it was written over like... two nights.

What fic did you want to do but never made it off the ground?

Oh, dear... Let me check my notes... Okay, the only idea I had that I almost certainly wouldn’t write is a multichapter royalty omegaverse au where Charles is the son of a governor living abroad, and is sent to the palace to court Prince Edwin. 

Monty was going to be there. He and Charles were going to bond over their shitty parents, while also competing for Edwin’s hand. There was going to be a whole thing where Ester threatened to turn Monty into a bird, and eat him if he failed. 

It was just too long. I have no way to tie that together cohesively. Anyways, if someone else wants to write something with that premise, go ahead I guess. (Just no being mean to me if I ever change my mind, and decide to write my version, too.)

Did you beta any fics? Any favs you want to shout out?

I did! I helped beta @gali-in-distress's fic, I got my love to keep me warm. They gifted it to me. <3<3<3 Love you, Gali!

It’s Omega x Omega Payneland, and they’re expecting a baby. It’s amazing. <3

What ideas are percolating for next year?

Mermaids. Screw Mer-may. I’m doing mer-fucking-december. Mer-cember. Mer-anuary. Mer-ebruary. Mermaids are good year-round, and more of us need to realize that. I fucking love mermaid fics.

Thank you to @cannibalisticcorpse for being my first friend in fandom, and @gali-in-distress for bouncing ideas back and forth at night like we’re ping-pong olympians. (Also for always checking in on me. <3 )

How many wips do you have currently?

okay, let's be reasonable about this (lol). WIPs that im currently working on, only 4. don't- hey! don't look into my Google Docs! ignore all those files. sometimes i like to jot a sentence or idea down, that doesn't mean it's an active WIP! that also doesn't mean they are abandoned. they are just... marinating. snoozing. biding their time.

Which one are you finding the hardest to finish? Why do you think that is?

oh geez, probably Savory & Sweet. it's so silly because the first chapter of that flew out of me. it was so fun to write and its a verse i definitely revisit from time to time... and technically the first chapter works as a stand alone- i don't need to write a follow up. but after i had posted it, i really had every intention to write more. but for some reason the motivation to actually sit down and write it out is fleeting. but it's a year old at this point and i just want. it. FINISHED!

What does it usually look like when inspiration strikes for you?

it never strikes when i want it to, firstly. never when im sitting down and writing. it sometimes comes when i dont have access to a pen and paper or my phone- like riding my bike or in the shower, so whatever great idea/line of dialogue/scene that pops into my head in that moment, i repeat in my head over and over until i can finally scramble to get it hastily written down lmao. but it is very random... and usually strikes when im alone and in my own head, doing nothing in particular.

Do you curate playlists for each fic or is your process different?

no. and i write in absolute silence as well. lyrics distract me and music has never spoken to me that way- not enough to influence writing at least. of course the big exception is Bolt in the Blue lmao. but i think it makes sense that im making playlists for that fic. (oh and i made one for Let Me Down Easy as well... but these two fics have literally been the only times in my entire fanfic history that i've made playlists haha)

Do you go balls to the wall and write as you go or are you more organised?

for the moooost part i have a bit of organization, even if it's a few scattered notes. i learned my lesson quite late about making sure to at least have an ending in mind before i start writing and publishing (to be very real with y'all, the reason the dreamling Road Trip au hasn't gotten off the ground yet is because i can't think of a good ending for it). that being said though, once i do have an ending sorted out, my writing process is basically chaos. sometimes plot points or arcs will change entirely... which is a little scary, but as long as i can keep my ending the same, fuck it.

Haven’t collabed with @renconner in a long while for a mini comic (minus our big one, Instinct). We were talking about one of Stan’s lowest moments involving being outside with that damn sign, so we decided to make a comic with Stan remembering it. I’ve also kinda of assumed Filbrick would lie to Ford about what’s going on with Stan (Stan probably did too to some extent).

i’ve been thinking about innocuous photos like the one on the left. because it is my job to neglect the sprouts of imperialism and racism that accompanied my upbringing, i've been attempting to find solidarity even in the innocuous. and how easily it comes: marah and i, both schoolgirls who like cute things, both compelled by the desire to photograph our supplies after arranging them to be just-so. the photo on the right is an old one of mine.

if you were to ask yourself:

“how much do i have in common with a palestinian?”

i think the answer would be “everything.” maybe you’re united by the love you have for your pets, being fans of the same goth rock band, or the fact that, were something of severity to happen to your family, you’d also be online, asking for help in a way your elders might find it hard to wrap their heads around, and making sure people knew they could trust your campaign.

and if this were a message you were sending, i hope that your hope would remain in tact, because people like us, on the other end, would be doing everything they could to help you.
