I finally found a copy of Grace in a record store, and the place was called Magnolia Thunderpussy. I feel like Jeff would be so proud

Once again, my question is...
"WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE,
TROUBLE STUDIO ALBUM?"
Note:
2013's "The Distortion Field" is the first and only studio album so far that doesn't feature Eric Wagner on vocals, but instead Kyle Thomas also known from bands like Exhorder, Alabama Thunderpussy, Floodgate, Heavy As Texas, Pitts vs. Preps...
Ps, if you vote please also reblog, the more people will do so the more this post will spread and the better the outcome and results will be. A big "thank you" in advance to anyone who will partake in this! Yours truly: @necro69mancer 🤘🍻
Oh, and also... suggestions for future polls are always welcome! 😎
Last weeks poll ended with almost 40 votes and two winners! It was a draw between Nirvana "Nevermind" (1991) and Alice In Chains "Dirt" (1992), with each 20,5%. I myself voted on Alice In Chains. All 10 bands are amongst my favorites... but Alice In Chains has that something special that keeps me coming back to their music, even to this day.

"PART ONE - THE TROUBLE STUDIO ALBUMS"
I initially was trying to make a poll about the late Eric Wagner's greatest Trouble albums and his side projects. But i soon realized there are simply too many awesome Trouble albums that would have been left out if i was trying to fit it all into one poll. So yes, there will be another poll featuring some of the best side project releases from the core members of the band. 🤘

Trouble is an American doom metal band from Aurora, Illinois, formed in 1979. They are often considered one of the pioneers of doom metal, and have been referred to as one of the genre's "big four" alongside Candlemass, Pentagram and Saint Vitus. The band created a distinct style, taking influences of the British heavy metal bands Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, and psychedelic rock of the 1970s.
youtube
Trouble's first two albums, Psalm 9 and The Skull, are cited as landmarks of doom metal. To date, they have released eight studio albums. Although never officially disbanded, they went inactive after original singer Eric Wagner left in 1997. He rejoined in 2000 and left again eight years later; he was first replaced by Kory Clarke and then by current vocalist Kyle Thomas, who had also filled in for Wagner during his initial absence from Trouble. Wagner died in 2021.
youtube
Rob talks with Eric Wagner on their tour stop in Arlington, TX on 8/6/21. Eric passed on August 22, 2021, this great interview was recorded only 16 days earlier...
Core members include Wagner, guitarists Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin, and drummer Jeff Olson. Early lyrics had a spiritual nature; Metal Blade Records initially marketed Trouble as "white metal" (in contrast to the rising black metal movement) in the 1980s.

For the concert asks: 13 and 24?
Ahh, thanks so much for asking, JoAnne! :'D
13. Have you ever had a backstage pass?
Um, hmmm...no? Well, wait, maybe...okay, well, there was that time where I had a VIP package/meet-and-greet and got to meet Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart (as much as I love this question, I unfortunately don't feel like rewriting it because I've already written about that experience!), and then, well, right before the pandemic, because I was a member of Thunderpussy's fanclub, "Club Pussy," through their app, my best friend and I got to go to The Showbox before the concert started and we got to meet 3/4 members of Thunderpussy! It was kind of endearing because the first member we talked to was the drummer, Lindsey Elias, and after we chatted briefly and she moved on, my best friend leaned toward me and said something to the effect of, "Okay, so...who was that?" and I was like *facepalm* "That was the drummer!!" and they were like "Oh shit, really? I had no idea. Oops." (They admitted to me then they weren't so great at remembering musicians' names and putting those names to faces.) So after that, I pointed out the other members and told my friend their names so they'd know and be prepared...and then when I finally got the chance to talk with my favorite member of Thunderpussy I was the unprepared one (she started talking to me pretty much as soon as I put a chip in my mouth, sigh 😞). But anyway...that was their little pre-New Year's Eve concert party that they offered to fanclub members if we gave them our name and anyone who'd be joining us, which is how we got in once we got there. So technically there wasn't any backstage pass involved, and we didn't get to meet them in any more of an intimate capacity than in the bar area of the venue before the show, but that was totally fine with me (although it was kind of awkward since I don't drink, and Thunderpussy weren't going to not drink but, meh, it was still fine). I don't need to meet my favorite bands, anyway, but when I have the fortunate opportunity to do so, I don't care if it's meeting them in the venue bar area or before a show for a brief meet-and-greet or at their merch table* or what - if the experience ends up being good (which, in the case of Heart and Thunderpussy, it was!!), I'll be grateful for even 30 seconds of their time to get to tell them how meaningful their music is. :')
24. Who is an artist you think everyone should experience live at least one?
Heeheehee, I was hoping someone would ask me this one! :D I'm gonna go with The Black Tones, first and foremost! They may be mostly known locally, but they deserve to be known by such a wider audience - their shows are SO MUCH FUCKING FUN EVERY SINGLE TIME! And I've seen them live 3 times now, and while during the third (and most reccent) time that I saw them I got the impression that they're afraid to bore their local fanbase, I would like to say right now that their shows could never be boring, which is why I'm happy to see them live again every time I possibly can! Everyone needs to see their live shows at least once (but then they'll probably want to see them more than once!). :'D

This is a bit late to notice...
I only just realized that my posts relevant to Fanny, including my posts about June Millington which I have appropriately tagged as “Fanny,” have not shown up in the tag because the tag via the NSFW ban does not exist. As such, all relevant tags that I included in the post that posted earlier for June Millington’s birthday do not include that post at all, even though “Fanny” as a tag was not even included in the first five tags on the post.
That is censorship.
A bit late to notice that, huh? What with the NSFW ban ridiculousness having gone around months earlier, I should’ve realized it sooner. But I didn’t.
You know, there’s a current American band called Thunderpussy that I like who will be hearing tomorrow from the Supreme Court about whether or not they can have their band name trademarked. The fact that they’ve been denied more than once the opportunity to have their name trademarked is also censorship. Society, but especially American culture, seems to expect that words are “dirty” and “scandalous” and “immoral,” but I ask: who decides these things? Who is the gatekeeper of language here, and how do they decide what words are “inappropriate” versus which ones aren’t despite the fact that when used in the proper context they may have the power to cut deeper than any of those “inappropriate” words can? Because, you know, words have power? So who has that power to determine what words can be used? (The answers to those questions require essays in themselves, but the straightest answers I can give you are: white, heterosexual, cis-males, and anyone who upholds white supremacy, heteronormativity, and the patriarchy. Capitalism fits in there somewhere, too.)
Fanny, as well as Thunderpussy, are band names. And more than that, they are bands who create music - music that is worthwhile to listen to and discover. So, because they’re bands of all women, that makes them different? That inherently makes them more special, or more scandalous or more worthy of suspicion? No. They simply create music. That was, and is, their goal. So now I feel like I have to copy Eddie Vedder’s example where I proclaim online, everywhere, “I buy music for minors!” I bring awareness of these bands’ and artists’ existences and experiences so that they, especially, are not kept out of the conversation concerning rock music and history. That’s what this blog was supposed to be for. But Tumblr and their entirely unnecessary censorship effort is keeping me, and this blog, from accomplishing that. That is unacceptable.
So, that being said, I plan to delete this blog as soon as possible. I will not be posting anymore after the queue runs out tonight, and I will not be reblogging anything, including this post. If you see this post, you see it. If not, well - were you able to see the post for June Millington because it included the tag “Fanny”?
Feel free to reblog this post to let people know once this blog is gone WHY it is gone. But I’m not putting up any of my contact information or anything so that you might find me or this blog’s concept in the future because I am determined to impart to this horrible site why censorship is such an issue. I’m sorry if some of you will be negatively affected by that. But if you want to do something about it, speak up about censorship. Not on behalf of me or this blog; on behalf of those whose personal history and experiences have been adversely affected because of censorship. Like Buffy Sainte-Marie, and now, like Fanny. And Thunderpussy. Not to mention the fact that Buffy Sainte-Marie and Fanny are WOC/half made up of WOC, and both Fanny and Thunderpussy include queer women. These things matter, and why they happen matters. Please continue to talk about that, do research, and speak up about it.
Thanks for a good 3 years and however many months it was until the NSFW ban took over, because truly, everything was okay up until that point. Please keep talking about these artists and bands and remember them. It’s important.

1, 7, 17, 33 for the music ask? 🥰
Thanks so much for asking, Kenny! 😄
How many live concerts have you been to? Oof, that's testing my memory! I'm going to say at least 20. I've seen Thunderpussy live 6 times, for example, as the band I've seen live the most times, so consider that I've also seen quite a few other bands and artists…turns out it's become hard for me to keep track! Also, I did not count any of the live shows that I worked doors for, even though I did get to hear all of them, but I did not technically get to see many of them, let alone for very long at a time (when I had the chance to check out their sets)…
What is the loudest concert you’ve ever been to? This is an interesting question: loud as it concerns the crowd, or loud as it concerns the music independent from the crowd? LOL I'm going to go with the music, specifically, and say several Thunderpussy concerts that I've been to. Especially the ones where I was pressed against the stage, so I was nearest to the amps of course. :'D (I REGRET NOTHING, although my ears were a little bit sorry after the end of those shows. lol)
Which show would you say was the most beautiful? I'm gonna get sappy here and say that the most beautiful show I've been to was the NYE show my best friend and I went to together. We saw Trash Fire (they certainly lived up to their name; sorry to say that), Constant Lovers (oh, I forgot about them, my bad, lmao) Bearaxe, and Thunderpussy, and I especially found Bearaxe and Thunderpussy's performances beautiful, but especially because I got to share them with my best friend. :')
Which concert do you wish had a concert film? Assuming this is about concerts I've been to and not just in general, I know that, like, the only band to ever have a concert film at The Showbox was Pearl Jam, but I would've really, REALLY loved if Thunderpussy's last NYE show at The Showbox with Ruby Dunphy had been a concert film. That was the first show I ever went to by myself (and I have repeated that action many times now, because my friends all live far from me and my desire to see bands and artists that I love far eclipses my need to have familiar people around me. Sometimes the bands and artists are familiar enough to me that I'm put at ease in seeing them!), and with love and appreciation to the other drummers who've stepped in for Thunderpussy, Ruby was and is in a class by herself (not to mention the perfect drummer for Thunderpussy). Any show that Ruby shows up to drum for Thunderpussy is a fucking great one, but that last NYE show was, in hindsight, bittersweet, and yet fucking fantastic. If this question was more general about concerts, then I'd once again give an arm AND a leg to see ANY show footage of Fanny performing live at Whisky a Go Go in 1969-1971 (because I want to hear/see them perform more songs from their first album besides just their covers!!).

Straight Songs of Sorrow Mark Lanegan (Heavenly Recordings) (released in 2020)
I was became aware of Mark Lanegan thanks to Sub Pop Records who signed him to a solo deal while he was still front man for Screaming Trees.  I was a fan of Sub Pop but I didn’t buy anything by him at that time.  Sub Pop always had a roster full of artists I either enjoyed, didn’t like or didn’t dig into and Lanegan’s work fell in the latter category.  The first album I bought bearing his name also bore the name of Isobel Campbell.  I liked the idea of the ex-Belle and Sebastian cello player joining forces with the gruff Lanegan, a nice yin-yang sort of combination and I ended up buying all three of their albums together (2005′s Ballad of The Broken Seas, 2008′s Sunday At Devil Dirt and 2010′s Hawk).  I never bought another Isobel Campbell album (although I do want her latest 2020′s There Is No Other) but I began buying Lanegan’s solo work and his work with Mark Lanegan Band.  What really got me truly turned on to his work was the three LP set from Light In The Attic’s 2013 Has God Seen My Shadow? An Anthology 1989-2011.  I wasn’t the most consistent with buying his new releases predominantly because he recorded with so many different people, it was difficult to stay on top of what was coming out.  The final album I purchased by him was Phantom Radio. I bought two copies, one was the standard album, the other was a UK release that included the EP No Bells On Sunday.
I was as surprised as everyone when Lanegan passed away on Tuesday of this week.  I had no idea that he had a new album out credited only to him and not “Mark Lanegan Band.”  I hadn’t heard word one about it.  It was his first truly solo album since 2013′s Imitations (not counting his demos release, Houston).  I wasn’t even aware he’d written several books, his most recent book, 2021′s Devil In A Coma about his rather harrowing near death experience with Covid.
I saw Lanegan with my brother at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago in October 2013 while in the throngs of a miserable migraine.  I was forced to take a shot of Imitrex and I spent most of the show sicker than hell while the medication coursed through my veins listening to Lanegan’s tales of woe.  It all felt so very appropriate and I was finally able to sit back and enjoy the show right about the time the encore began!
I was able to find a copy of his newest album at Magnolia Thunderpussy Records (what a name) on the day he died and they didn’t even raise the price.  I’ve purchased from them in the past and they are an excellent source for records (I bought three sealed John Hiatt albums from them and they even provided me with photos without complaints when I requested them).   I ordered the album Tuesday night and here it sits on my turntable three days later.  I read Lanegan considers this album a companion to his autobiography Sing Backwards and Weep.  Yes, I also bought a copy and I’m currently reading it.  What a struggling life this man led.
I will undoubtedly pick up more of his work over time.  Hopefully by then some of his music will be back in print (his first five Sub Pop albums are particularly expensive), but for now, I have several of his albums to remind me that he was definitely an individual talent well worth listening to.
The photos you see at top are the album cover (at an angle to keep reflections of me and the camera at bay) and the back of the album (that reflection is just light refracting on the shrink wrap and bouncing onto everything around my kitchen.  Next is the gatefold followed by one of the inner sleeves.  They all look the same (and I’ve blacked out the download code on the sleeve) so I’ve only included one despite having taken photos of all four sides.  The same goes for the label on Side 1, all look just the same.  The final shot is the hype sticker that appeared in the upper left hand corner.  I had to take that at a weird angle to keep my reflection from spoiling the shot.

Best of 2018 a.k.a. Give me your tired, your poor, your female solo artists and frontwomen
I usually seem to find an accidental theme in my listening habits over the course of a calendar year. In what may best be described as a precarious couple of years for women's rights in the United States (and, of course, much of the world), female musicians have certainly been making their voices heard. Art tends to reflect the political climate of the day, and the "Me Too" movement that began toward the end of 2017 made its way into music studios in 2018. Whether it's as subtle as a punch in the face with lyrics, like Courtney Barnett ("I wanna walk through the park in the dark/ Men are scared that women will laugh at them/ I wanna walk through the park in the dark/ Women are scared that men will kill them" - "Nameless, Faceless") or simply the fact that more women are writing and recording their own music, it's clear that current events have laid the groundwork for a feminist revolution in entertainment, and while this might not be surprising, as the arts obviously tend to swing left, we can only hope this trend continues into other areas of society. Clearly, my accidental theme for 2018 was Female Singer/Songwriters & Bands. By my count, 33 of my Top 50 albums were written and recorded by female solo artists or bands with women in them. But before I get to the list, I'm starting with what has become one of my favourite traditions of the last few years- Calling out an album that I had high expectations for but which completely disappointed me. The Most Disappointing Album of 2018 Jack White - Boarding House Reach I love Jack White, from the White Stripes to the Raconteurs to his solo work... but this album was not good. Pick a genre, dude. I usually include some of my favourite EPs, etc. at the beginning of my list, but there were so many this year that I gave them their own post. Click here if you missed it. Top 50 50. I'm With Her - See You Around "Game To Lose" 49. Alkaline Trio - Is This Thing Cursed? "Blackbird" 48. Poliça and s t a r g a z e - Music for the Long Emergency "Fake Like" 47.
