Corax woke to the sound of a softly snoring Robert Harwood. The grizzled mercenary leader was still asleep. Robert's head was buried face down in the plumage on Corax's upper chest. Corax lay in the functional, if comfortable, bed, and took in the sights of the room around him - there had been little time to do so six - neg, eight - hours earlier. Upon their arrival, it had been two minutes of frantic (and drunken, in Robert's case) undressing, an hour and a half of intense, intimate, and wall-shakingly loud coupling - Robert face down or otherwise receiving for much of it - then thirty minutes of afterglow, a quick fifteen minute shower tandem shower, and finally, sleep for the remainder of the time elapsed. Corax decided he would allow Robert as much sleep as he desired. So he looked around the room - his genetically-augmented avian night vision allowing him a good view of everything, even in the dark - at the bare metal walls, the holovid player and CD audio system on the far wall, the open door to the surprisingly well appointed bathroom... it was a nice, if functional, room. Not as well-appointed as the Argo's quarters, but better than the barracks and sibko facilities Corax had been raised in. Idly he ran his taloned hands softly across Robert's still naked back, as his mind began to wander... there are adjustments for hot drop that needed to be made to the Haast Eagle before we drop, and the stravag PPC was still showing a .085% transfer inefficiency with the capacitor off-line - but he shook off those thoughts. He wanted to take Robert there, and show him. Every Mech pilot, and many Aerospace pilots, found LAMs an alluring, fascinating, "dead end" technology, but the Haast Eagle was the first to be built since the Jihad. It was the first of a new generation - especially since the Argo's prodigy of an engineering whiz-cum-electronics sorceress Jaela Yang-Murad had cracked the problem of mounting Ferro-Fibrous armor to a LAM.

So he lay, thinking, stoking his sleeping coupling partner's back, breathing, and feeling very content.

After a while, at precisely 5:00 Taurian Standard Time, (though Corax had no way of knowing that), Robert's eyes opened, quickly snapping around the room until they settled on Corax. For a moment, his bleary eyes widened, and his jaw went slack with awe, but as the fog of sleep cleared, recognition came over him, and he schooled his expression back to pleased neutrality.

"Mornin', Nevermore," Robert says. "Nice of you to to stick around. I'm led to understand that with you Clan folk it can be a bit of a 'Wham, bam, thank you ma'am' type situation." He sits up in bed, joints making all sorts of creaks and cracks from decades of abuse. He leans over the edge of the bed, pulling himself closer to the edge.

After a moment’s looking, he turns back to Corax with a slightly annoyed expression.

"Alright, where the hell are my limbs. I'm too hungover to remember taking them off, and I need them if I'm gonna make us coffee and breakfast." He says, gesturing with his arm to the three mounting surfaces that adorn his other arm and legs.

“Thank you,” I nod and set Ruhn down onto his blanket before moving to set the kettle on, “it was my mother-in-law’s before she was freed.” I gesture to a photo of Shmi on the wall.

Jaela turns her gaze to the photos, pausing as she notes a photo of you next to a young boy that looks… like a miniature Skywalker?

How interesting. She knew he was from here but it’s quite coincidental to run into an old friend of his.

An old friend of his… who also has Force Sensitive children.

She straightens a little as her eyes land on the next photo, a selfie of the two of you from his last visit, snuggled in bed together.

“Anakin?” She blurts in surprise, gesturing to the photo, “are you- is that Anakin Skywalker?”

SILVER CELEBRATION ROCKS KHORVAIRE

The world is collectively breathing a sigh of relief and a shout of triumph due to the recent revelations by the Church of the Silver Flame. Since the initial declaration of the “Flaw in the Flame”, the history of the “Luminaries”, and the harrowing tales of the “Last Luminary” and the “Living Luminary” saving our world, over a hundred such heroes have been identified.

A source verified to work for the Brelish royal family was willing to speak to this reporter on the condition of anonymity. “King Boranel has not publicly aligned Breland with the Silver Flame…yet. He is privately speaking with high ranking members and has promised a very public show of support if in fact the rumors are proven true that one of his ancestors was in fact a Luminary. My impression? They think he’s not being serious. They are mistaken.”

A spokesman for Queen Aurala ir’Wynam released a statement yesterday. “Aundair typically holds its faith in learning over religion, though our people are free to believe whatever foolishness they would like. However, these recent stories do come with receipts, showing that much of our nation owes a debt to the Silver Flame and its Luminaries, far beyond the simple Tax Exempt status we provide them now. For the time being, a door has been opened between our people.”

Vedim ir’Omik, Karnathian Minister of the Dead, has promised to bone up on Luminary history. “There has always been power in death, this is the only true fact of life. We are perhaps not as different as the so-called ‘Purified’ have implied. We respect the Luminaries’ willingness to go to any lengths for power, and out of professional curiosity are impressed that they can achieve so much strength by the death of so few.”

New Cyrian Prince Oargev ir’Wynarn had a much brighter view of events. “Faith has been in short supply for our people since the Mourning. Of the precious few of us who remain, isolation makes it difficult to believe in anything. Suddenly the stories, myths, and local legends we grew up loving, the very culture we assumed would be impossible to maintain without our home intact, now makes us feel like we are a part of this world again. The Purified and unpurified alike now feel a kinship for each other and for the rest of the world. Walking the streets, I’ve seen smiles on the faces of my people, and children at play for the first time in years. I thank the Keeper, the High Cardinal, and the Luminaires for sharing their stories and giving my people hope, and faith. Faith in themselves as much as in something bigger.” 

Statements of praise, celebration, and personal victories from Thranish officials have been too numerous to list here. Perhaps wisely, we’ll simply say they’ve been absolutely thrilled.

PARADE BREAKS OUT IN FLAMEKEEP

A contingent of paladins leading the Living Luminary Shenron Lheri through the city to be received by Keeper Jaela were joined by well wishers in a display that quickly turned into a city-wide party. Musicians, dancers, and children wearing Luminary costumes joined in the journey, giving a warm welcome to the beloved monk, leading to a slow moving and joyous parade that lasted for 7 hours. Near the end of the journey, the lead paladin, Brother Fali’ik, was honored by a small child with a puppet in his likeness, shouting “You’re Brother Fali’ik! You’re my hero! I heard that we’re all safe now because the love and trust you put in the Lheri siblings allowed them to save us!” Brother Fali’ik somewhat nervously responded “I…was just doing my job. THAT IS ALL.” and retreated inside, while the Living Luminary hugged the child, laughing.

All Church services for the month in FlameKeep have been crowded to over-capacity, leading to an altered schedule of extra events.

CHURCH OFFICIALS UNDER STAFFED

While the Luminaries have become the talk of the world, it’s hard to not hear the swell of praise for Jeeker Jaela, though slightly more difficult to hear her voice directly.  Church officials are overwhelmed by the show of support, attendance at Church functions, and even donations. At a recent brief interview, the Keeper commented “I thank everyone for their enthusiasm and regret that I can’t be in more places at once. That said, I encourage everyone to remember that the best way to honor these heroes is to step up and help the world yourself. We *ARE* hiring, pretty much everywhere, for pretty much everything. I think it’s - Gerald? Where's the stack of job postings?” This reporter was shorter than the stack of papers.

An unprecedented international inquiry into the history of the Luminaries initiated by the Church is underway by multiple nations intelligence agencies, being spearheaded by Abrexis Wren in a joint effort with the Brelish King’s Wands. We spoke with Lia Bakker, the highest ranking Wand Seer tasked to the effort, for a status update.  “The Church has been extremely helpful in our efforts to learn more about these heroes. Through generous sharing of relics, historical documents, and access to facilities, we have been able to connect quite a few Luminaries to the Forge and the Church, as promised. We’ve even successfully been able to speak to the spirits of some, and in all cases so far what we’ve been told has been true. Great adventures by brave heroes, who in the end volunteered to make a noble sacrifice for our world by stepping into the Flame to fight the Shadow. It’s astonishing and humbling.”

Cardinal Krozen has praised these efforts, while promising that the Church would make sure to expand its usual outreach programs. “The Luminaries are and have been our true protectors, without whom we would not be here today. They are the best of us, and prove that there is nothing we can not accomplish together. But we need more like them to truly help those in need around the world. All it takes is will, and time.” When asked about the truth to rumors of a 7th forge being considered deep in the Eldeen Reaches, Krozen smiled and repeated “All it takes is will, and time.”

They been on the AT two days when Arthur first starts to regret this whole venture.

Truth be told, maybe he regretted it the first time Charles mentioned camping, getting out deep into the wilderness for days on end, and Arthur, halfway to being in love, had said, readily, "'course I love camping, who don't?"

Charles ain't fancy about it, god knows. The kids that come around Hosea's ranch turn up in their parents' Teslas and BMWs and are outfitted in a few hundred dollars worth of new gear just for a 3 hr afternoon of riding around Bethel, the 18 year old mare who was so much like riding an old couch as to not make much difference. Charles ain't the type to drop 2 thousand dollars when and old tent and grim determination will do. So when planning, Arthur hadn't fretted much or asked any advice. A mistake, maybe, in retrospect.

Charles is kind, though, endlessly, and when Arthur turned up at the trailhead two days ago in old jeans and a baseball cap, Charles had chuckled, cupping Arthur's face in his hands in the parking lot, pressing a soft kiss to his mouth before turning to dig more practical clothes out of his bag to share.

"Alright there?" Charles says easily, dropping back to walk beside Arthur as evening came upon New England in quick footed strides. The trail ain't obvious to Arthur’s untrained eyes, but Charles knows this stretch of the AT like his own name, and Arthur knows they're in no danger of wandering astray.

"I'm fine," Arthur says, maybe too grouchy. This thing between them is new, unasked for, and precious. They passed a few people on the trail, sure, but for the most part it's just been the pair of them and their footsteps and birdsong for company as they wound their way through Vermont. Arthur wants to luxuriate in it, in the peace and tranquility, in having Charles so close to hand. But, what he feels mostly is the weariness in his own feet, the frustration with himself for overselling his own outdoorsmanship when Charles had pitched this whole plan in the first place.

"Another 15 miles tomorrow, I guess?" Arthur tries to sound excited, sincere, but what he mostly sounds is tired.

Charles smiles over at him in the dusky twilight, his hair all black and silver in the shadows. “Why push it? Not like we gotta calendar to keep to.”

Arthur wants to argue that, protest, but Charles catches his hand and presses a quick kiss to his knuckles. There again and gone.

“‘Sides,” Charles says, his voice casual, purposefully so, “I might wanna sleep in tomorrow.”

Cos I can’t keep up, Arthur thinks first, and then reconsiders, feeling the weight of Charles’ eyes on him, unpresupposing and intent. Maybe there were other reasons to dally, as well.

The clearing where Charles finally calls them to a stop is lovely, a break in the treeline that gives a clear, unimpeded view of the mountains and valleys that roll away from the AT like a sigh.

“I got the tent,” Charles says, probably because he’s seen Arthur curse over the poles and canvas too much to think he’s capable of seeing to it unsupervised, “There should be an old firepit on the rise there, see if you can’t find some firewood?”

“Not cliff bars and trailmix for supper then?” Arthur says, but Charles just snorts.

“You want a cold dinner then by all means, but I wouldn’t mind a fire tonight.”

So Arthur sees to it; Lord knows he ain’t ever been a boy scout but he gathers what he needs and lights it up all the same, using a tacky-ass lighter that John bought him in Atlantic City 5 years ago, now faded and worn with use. He’s starting to doze in his boots and dusty flannel by the time Charles drops down beside him, cheery and bright-eyed as he takes in the valley below. His arm settles, strong and warm and familiar, across Arthur’s shoulders, and Arthur curls into his side, sticking his nose into Charles neck, just below his ear.

“Could’a told me,” Charles says, his voice soft and rich, and maybe Arthur is far further than half-way to being in love than he realized.

“Told you what?”

In the tall grass, the lightning bugs are waking, drifting lazily out of the meadow like sparks cast from a fire, flicking like starlight into dusk and beyond.

“That you hate camping,” Charles says, soft, indulgent, and when Arthur turns up his head to protest, Charles slides their mouths together, sure and soft and easy.

“I don’t hate it,” Arthur says, soft, looking up at Charles, thinking could love anything that makes you smile just so -

- and what Arthur will spend years realizing, coming to know is true. is it ain’t the woodsmoke or starlight or fireflies in the grass that makes Charles smile, it’s the warm breadth of Arthur pressed into his side, that having Arthur beside him is the fuel that fills that furnace of delight that makes Arthur’s chest feel small and precious -

- but that’s years down the road and far away, and this is still new enough to feel frail and uncertain, and Arthur is hesitant when he says, “Didn’t mean to spoil nothing,”

And Charles says, “Hush up, you old fool. I got marshmallows in my bag and enough graham crackers and chocolate to make even Jack sick with it, so how about we cool those aching feet of yours and enjoy the night?” “Ain’t waking with the dawn tomorrow?” Arthur says, thinking about how the smell of carmelized sugar will add to that woodsmoke and sweat smell that’s undoubtable Charles.

“If you’re up before noon, then I’ll eat my boots,” Charles says, half teasing, half a promise as he slides a hand around Arthur and slides his fingers, a weighted, comfortable promise, just beneath the top of Arthur’s jeans.

Arthur might say any number of those things in that moment, a joke, a come-on, some pitiful excuse for his lack of camping expertise, but what he says then is - nothing. Nothing comes easily when Charles is there, folding Arthur into a precious little pocket of peace that is as strange as it’s welcome.

The campfire sparks and crackles, and night folds around them like a promise, something soft and secure.

In need of some inspiration for charthur, any head canons or prompts that folks want to see? Doesn't need to be 'like thieves in the night,' I'm just having my first bonfire of the year and feeling soft about cowboys.

The cool ocean breeze hits her face. But instead of relaxing her, readying herself for another evening tangled up with Drake, it hits her like a brick. She tenses, sweeping over to the minibar as Drake shuts the door gingerly—and even that is too loud in the stillness of their former safe haven, lost and drunk on whiskey and each other for two weeks. But now?

Jaela huffs under her breath, wrapping a sheer cover up around her body, exposed to the elements all day and Drake’s needy gaze. The lock turns and music follows, Drake setting up for the evening, as he always did. Instead of a look that’ll send him to his knees, Jaela glares at him pouring two whiskeys. Who even are you, Drake?

Drake catches her glare and freezes, paling. Good. Cower. This is going to be a talk.“A… Abdi…? What’s… what’s wrong?” Jaela says nothing but sips the amber liquid, savoring the burn. She did good all day today after she voiced her concern and doubt over Liam’s preposterous request. Really, she wanted to tear into Drake—Drake of all people—to agree—no, think it was an honor—so quickly to this. On the last day of their honeymoon. No warning. No… no nothing. Just Liam begging them to give Cordonia an heir because he can’t. And for what reason?

[TouMaki Advent Calendar 2018] - Recap Post -

“First things first: °*MERRY CHRISTMAS*°, everyone!

Now, moving to more serious things: in this last month, for the second time this year and for the second year in a row, we were able to bring new TouMaki content into our small corner of fandom for 24 uninterrupted days! Yay! I don’t know if you realize what a terrific result this is and what it means not only to me personally, but for the TouMaki fandom in general: scrolling the tag and seeing a new fic and/or fanart every day is... amazing, comforting and (as a creator myself) really, really motivating. Unfortunately, in the end I wasn’t able to give my own contribution this year, but my hands freakin’ itch to write right now, which is a feeling I was sorely missing and which is back only thanks to you guys.

Therefore, let me express my biggest THANKS to all the talented and enthusiastic creators who chose to be part of the team this year and literally brought this Advent Calendar to life: I owe you guys SO MUCH, you’re a joy to work with and if I could reach through the screen and hug every single one of you, I’d do it in a heartbeat.  I’m deeply sorry if I sometimes came out a bit harsh in our conversations: I’m a curt, practical person who sometimes forgets how to English politely - my apologies on that department, it was nothing personal, I was just busy and probably frustrated by my job.

Now, on to something more technical: I have created a new Collection on AO3 called “TouMaki_FandomEvents” where I will gather, through dedicated Sub-Collections, all the TouMaki events I have moderated so far and, therefore, all the entries created for those events that are currently available on AO3. If you would like your work to be featured on that platform, please publish your fic/art on AO3 and put the event it was made for in the tags (i.e.: “toumaki advent calendar 2018″, “toumaki month 2018″, and so on): I will find it and add it to the appointed Collection. If you don’t have an AO3 account but would like one, drop me a line: I have invitations to spare. 

Last thing and then I’ll leave you to the Advent Calendar recap: in January I will start focusing on the TouMaki Month for 2019, which as far as I’m concerned will be held (please refer to this post) - details will go up in due time, but in the meantime if you have proposals and/or ideas to submit and/or would like to be part of the team again, my chatbox is always open!

I don’t know if you had the opportunity to read the description, but here it is just in case in regards to how I chose certain songs: These songs were picked for Jae's internal reflection, to share with Drake and/or Liam or to give voice to feelings and thoughts that she has difficulty putting into words.
