Update/Ending Hiatus
Hi all,
I've taken some much needed time to grieve the loss of my dog. Thank you everyone for understanding. This has been the hardest thing for me to overcome, and I'm grateful I have such a nice community around me.
Many of you commented on hiatus post, and thank you for your kind words. I read each and every thing everyone said and it helped me feel better about stepping away for a bit.
I'm not sure about getting back into writing for the fandom as of right now, I still don't have a lot of drive, but I am working on getting the Zine going again with @the-oscar-isaac-collective . Thank goodness for the amazing team of mods I have over there helping me, otherwise I don't think I could do it.
The contributor spotlights are continuing, and we are reaching the end of the creation period! Stay tuned for more updates!
As a side note, I have been working a lot on writing my first official novel, because for some reason my grieving brain said that's what I need to be doing, so I'll be updating you all on that soon. It's not even the novel I'd originally set out to start, WHY ARE BRAINS LIKE THIS lol.
Anyway, thank you all again, and I'll be posting again soon, see you all around!
<3 Melly

~ Moderator Spotlight ~
It's time to announce the one and only @ominoose
Admin Moderator, Writing Contributor
Mushi came in as an additional mod pretty late in the game, but we can't be more thrilled to have her to help with some of the admin work!
As a contributor, you already know (and if you don't then you need to go follow her!!) that she's an amazing writer and her works are a NECESSARY addition to the zine. She's been a great friend to me throughout my time in the fandom and having her here has been the best. Thank you for being such a good friend and for helping with all the nitty gritty stuff I couldn't manage by myself! You're a blessing.
We can't wait to share with you all what she's done for the Zine!!

thank you wren @foggieststars my belovedest for tagging me. very fitting considering our convos inspired half the fics i wrote this year LOL. ao3 wrapped 2024!!!
i have not been the most active the last 2 weeks so i have no idea who has been tagged... throwing out some no-pressure tags: @freeuselandonorris @elementalmoments @wormeo-and-juliette @userkritaaay
in chronological order, the fics i posted this year are:
relax and catch the manic rhapsody (fond freak oscar x curly girl lando)
a lobby with nine hundred windows (spooky landoscar doppelganger nonsense)
cut out the middle man (landoscar shotgunning weed)
all those static codes in the radio abyss (bad day curly girl lando x guy who pays attention oscar)
begging hands knees please (landoscar first time bottoming + bruises)
dive down deeper still (landoscar a/b/o knot drunkenness)
but my tracks are better (landoscar a/b/o free use somnophilia)
the light between the lines (telepath oscar x bitter lando fighting sci fi demons and uncovering government secrets)
feels good it's a heavy copacetic (landoscar overstim + self-bondage)
wearing nothing but glitter and lashes (r63!landoscar ft vibrators and a lot of orgasms)
holy sick divine nights (landoscar dream sharing hurt/comfort ft choking) (literally posted Today, i knew i was holding back on doing this tag game for a reason)
let's not discuss the lack of variety. shall we.
-
works published: 12 (11 fics, 1 zine)
subscriptions: 128 (which is i believe exactly 120 more than i started the year with!!! sorry to those 8 from my ted lasso days who are probably no longer subscribed. lol)
kudos: 2,962
comment threads: 160
bookmarks: 1,144 (chewis number...)
word count: 35,692
hits: 33,447
--
top 3 fics by kudos:
begging hands knees please
but my tracks are better
dive down deeper still
top 3 fics by word count:
the light between the lines (10.8k)
relax and catch the manic rhapsody (5.7k)
holy sick divine nights (3.6k)
top 3 ships:
landoscar (11)
...does it count that i allude to glance in tlbtl. and logan/george/alex in manic rhapsody.
technically the zine i made had brocedes, charlos, maxiel, and landoscar?
top 3 tags:
there are seven tags i use twice (magical realism, r63, multiple orgasms, overstim, a/b/o dynamics, vibrators, and under-negotiated kink)
and no repeats otherwise. lol
my fave tag this year was "idiots to lovers but in 2k and they're fucking for 95 percent of it" tho
im. genuinely so proud of myself for this year. from april (aka when i posted my first f1 fic) on i posted something on ao3 in every month except august. i really pushed myself this year to write things i couldn't have conceived of writing in january. or in july, even. first smut, first really truly plotty fic, first... whatever the hell holy sick divine nights is... thank u all for coming along on this journey with me!!!! much more journeying ahead of us <3

The wonderful @batmanisagatewaydrug has put together a Book Bingo for next year and I'm really excited to give it a go. I finished 14 books this year, despite doing uni for half the year, so I think 25 next year without uni is plausible. A lot of these books are outside my current literary diet (which consists mostly of queer romance novels) but they all sound really interesting.
Full list of books and prompts below the cut. Thanks to @batmanisagatewaydrug to putting this together. Also, I am doing this over on Storygraph and I have like NO friends there so if YOU are on Storygraph come be friends with me there!

Hello! I have a question about GD!Joel: why do you think he submitted to reader so quickly in the first fic? I don’t mean when she tied him down and I also know that ultimately it’s still a non-con situation, but after they fucked and he threw her off and she thought he had bested her but he actually wanted to eat her out, why do you think that was? Was he in a subspace? Or decided he just really liked giving up control in that moment? Or just really really liked reader?? Either way I liked it so thank you xx
Hello wonderful anon! I'm happy to answer for you!
The way i see Joel post outbreak is control freak. I mean, we see how he is with Tommy. He's protective yes but I think he's controlling. It makes sense, he lost everything except him.
Joel naturally submits to Tess. "He answers to me", the spooning scene where tess is big spoon, he stops when she holds up her hand...
and just look at him pre outbreak. He's a bit of a mess. Don't get me wrong he's just like me fr im not judging, but his room doesnt say "in control" to me.
Also if i remember correct, in the game the pills in his cabinet were anti- anxiety pills.
Joel craves stability, and although he's incredibly capable in a militaristic sense, he is not stable. I've explored this in like, The Wrong Way. Where Joel can lead a group of raiders and carry out brutality, but the raider house is still a bachelor pad. he takes care of litle one like he did sarah in a lot of ways, but not himself. Whe little one gained freedom, she was the one who made a garden, cooked real food, kept up the house.
So, my theory is Joel is ready and willing to submit to someone capable, but no one else is as capable as him. No one else won't get them killed. Joel trusts Tommy but he still leads him. Joel follows Tess. I think Joel was impressed with the house of booby traps, impressed with her skills that even though she did not have his strength, she was resourceful. I think that did mix in with the sub space.
If there was no outbreak, Joel would not be head of household in any scenario.
I don't mean that to say i dont like dominant strong joel, put together joel or anything like that. I've written Joel fully put together and in blessed be the fruit and puppy girl, but I think in my personal characterization he's more inclined to be subby if someone can get that out of him.
Also in my head reader is a muscle mommy lmfaoooo I imagine Joel is like ARMS tee hee
I also think theres an element of protectiveness. I think Joel is naturally protective of women having had and lost his daughter. Reader says it, he's physically stonger than her. He's bigger. I think Joel, especially with the post-nut bonding chemicals (oh my god is that a real thing? Does sex actually bond you? or is that another lie my catholic homeschool group made up for theology of the body that manipulated science. Oh no.)
ANYWAY PRESUMING THATS REAL Maybe it was just the perfect storm of events and hes like I can take care of her I can protect her and she can make it so I don't have to think.
But in general I have a problem with making people fall to fast. Looking back at the wrong way im like..... but literally why did he take little one with him lmfao.
anyway thanks for the ask!!!! come on by if you got more question! Ill probs have more guard dog in july, im focusing on my pride event and the fan Zine for oscar isaac writters.

Unfit To Lead: Thoughts On Growing Up, Queer History, And Feeling Unprepared
A short essay, written by Elliott (@pineapple-coffee, aka me)
(As context, I am a bisexual, genderqueer/gender questioning individual. I use they/she pronouns.)
In every community, there are elders. These elders pave the pathway for the generations that come after them—creating literature, sharing stories verbally, and educating the new generations on history and culture. Elders are essential beings in all communities, and their presence cannot be understated. Without those who came before us, history is lost, and the new generations, who will one day teach others, will have nothing to go on.
So what do you do if your elders died in the AIDS epidemic of the 80s? What do you do when queer history is often so underrepresented, so rarely accessible without proper guidance? Where do you go from there?
That's not to imply that there aren't elders. I know a man online named Ian—early 20s, not quite "old"—who taught me about queer cowboy culture, both of the Old West and of the modern day. Through video essays and documentaries, I learned about the true lives of notable figures, such as Oscar Wilde and Eleanor Roosevelt, instead of their more sanitized media portrayals. Thanks to queer artists and educators on social media, I proudly display a sticker of a green carnation on my laptop, still using it as a queer signaling device even over 120 years after Wilde's death. But most of the elders that I've looked up to online have two things in common: they're younger—typically between 21 and 40—and I know them only online. Rarely in my life have I physically met a queer person over the age of fifty. Only one person immediately comes to mind.
This came to a panicky culmination a few weeks ago when I realized, "Oh, damn. I'm nearly old enough to be considered a 'queer elder.'"
This thought freaked me out. I'm a young adult. I have so much to learn. I don't have a lot of elders to teach me. I've only ever been to one Pride festival in my life. Yet, to the youngest pre-teens out there who are just coming into their identities, I might be perceived as someone older and wiser.
Let me be abundantly clear: queer rage is the most powerful emotion that I have ever experienced. My queer elders did not "fail" me or anyone else—the government did. It was the government who let my queer siblings die slowly, whilst they did nothing but spit in the faces of the queer community and take the chance to spread their visceral hatred. Every day, I am filled with rage that generations of queer people have been ripped away due to the neglect of the government. I mourn the artists, musicians, partners, siblings, and activists who passed away. Every single AIDS victim deserves to tell their stories.
In my melancholy, I turned to the Internet. And through the Internet blogs, decades-old archives, and unsanitized history books, I found community.
I am thankful. I am grateful to those who archive gay and trans magazines, newsletters, zines, and adult magazines. I am grateful to those who survived, who share their stories about queer culture in memoirs and blog posts. I am grateful to those who keep history documented and make detailed accounts of each subculture and pivotal moment. I am thankful for those who create queer and trans sex education, relationship advice blogs, and provide information for trans people who want to physically transition. I am grateful to the AIDS Memorial for keeping memories alive. I am thankful for queer lawyers who debunk the nitty gritty details of anti-queer and anti-trans legislation so that everyone can understand the letter of the law.
I’ve learned about the culture of gay and lesbian bars. I learned about the Hanky Code, Hays Code, and Flower Codes. I learned about pre-Internet queer dating, the ways that people lived, and the subcultures that exist within queer communities. I learned about the brave trans women of color who gave us our rights through protests and riots. I learned, and I learned, and I learned. And at some point during my learning, I found myself with tears streaming down my face.
Never before had I learned the other side of history. The sides that include the radical activism via art and music, subcultures full of passionate people who yearn to share their craft, and the history that wasn’t touched by the mainstream.
I may feel unprepared to lead future generations, but the communities I have found have filled me with nothing short of euphoria. I feel proud to say that I’m queer, that I’m a fag, that I will be the elder one day. I display my Keith Haring merchandise with glee, sing Freddie Mercury’s songs at the top of my lungs, and abide by the motto that a day without lesbians really is a day without sunshine.
And in the times of uncertainty, perhaps community is the drive we all need. Whether you’re young, old, or somewhere in between, the queer community is always there to rally behind you.
Maybe being the next generation to lead others won’t be so scary after all.
#here’s something a little different for yall lol#essay#my writing#terfs don’t even think about getting near this one#queer community#queer#lgbtq#lgbtqia#elliott’s ramblings#queer writers#bisexual#transgender#genderqueer

We're re-airing Scott's 2020 interview with Kristian Williams about his book, Resist Everything Except Temptation: The Anarchist Philosophy of Oscar Wilde.
Transcription (thanks to MKE Lit Supply!)
PDF (unimposed)
Zine (imposed PDF)
From the original post:
I found this interview extremely illuminating, perhaps like many other people who might not have strong ties to either academia or popular education models of learning, I had sort of written Oscar Wilde off as this kind of white dead rich guy who carried little to no relevance apart from a model of queerness that we could look back on. This interview very much proved that this isn’t the case, and that he and the circumstances around him very much influence how we as queers and as anarchists can sense historical threads that pull on our lives very tangibly today. Thanks a million to Scott for researching and conducting this interview!
You can learn more about the author, Kristian Williams, who is most known for his book Our Enemies in Blue, which is a critical history of American policing and police, at his website kristianwilliams.com.

Thanks for tagging me @rockradiojunky :) :)
Name(s): I go by Cleo online (the name of a character I played in a murder mystery dinner theater once. I was the murderer.)
Pronouns: she/they
Star sign: Aquarius. it makes me mad because I don't believe in astrology but it's scarily accurate
# of siblings & fun facts about them (if you have any): one little sister - she is obsessed with The Beatles so when we're both home listening to music its like we're LARPing Abbey Road Studios
# of pets & their names: I have a praying mantis named Syd :)
Fandoms: Pink Floyd, Black Sails (my other main obsession is pirates - both real and fictional), Hannibal, various horror movies, classic lit. My other main fandom sideblog is actually fairly popular....I'm pretty sure it was my circle of mutuals that got the "doomed by the narrative" thing going
Favorite color: green and pink
Favorite song: Comfortably Numb changed my brain chemistry permanently so I have to pick it
Favorite author (of anything readable-- books, fanfics, zines, webtoons, whatever!): Oscar Wilde - my favorite book of all time is The Picture of Dorian Gray
Hobbies: I'm in grad school so I don't have a lot of these but I enjoy fiction writing, conlanging, cooking, and unnecessarily complicated literary analysis. this year I'm also trying to learn how to play piano
Favorite fic type: unfortunately I do love a good crossover
Favorite holiday: Halloween. I love horror movies and I'm kind of thematically obsessed with costumes and masks
Do you have any partner(s)? (romantic, qpp, anything!): lol no
Fun facts about you / anything extra you wanna share!: I am getting a PhD in media psychology. basically I study how people form perceptions of fictional characters (and other entertainment figures). I am especially interested in morally ambiguous/immoral characters and why we like them. I have successfully made having Blorbo Thoughts my job
I almost forgot the point of a tag game (very very optional obv): @radio-in-color @oldground @orwellianfloydfan @wheres-timmy @adreaminamistofgrey
I got bored so here's a little get-to-know-you tag game I think could be fun :3
Name(s)
Pronouns
Star sign
# of siblings & fun facts about them (if you have any)
# of pets & their names
Fandoms
Favorite color
Favorite song
Favorite author (of anything readable-- books, fanfics, zines, webtoons, whatever!)

Fun facts about you / anything extra you wanna share!
────────
Name(s): Loki (highly preferred), Elye
Pronouns : they/them mostly, he/she okay too
Star sign: Pisces
# of siblings: I've got 2! An older sister and a younger sibling. The fun fact about them is that they're also both queer; in fact, my mom is too. The only non-queer person in my immediate family is my dad.
# of pets: 4 cats! Phoebe & Frankie are our girls, Lenny and Murray are our boys :3
Fandoms: MCU (kind of), BSD, OFMD, Ranboo (does his fanbase count as a fandom?)
Fav. color: Don't have one
Fav. song: Aurora Borealis by Lemon Demon
Fav. author: Alice Oseman
Hobbies: singing, acting, drawing, writing, procrastinating
Fav. fic type: Fluff, definitely. I am a sucker for well written coffee-shop and flower-shop aus, too. Smut's fine, but only if it's romantic. I can't do angst if there's no comfort.
Fav. Holiday: Hanukkah or Halloween! I love autumn and winter
Partners?: Yes! I have a girlfriend (queerplatonic) who I love very much, and a boyfriend (romantic) who I love very much :]
Fun facts:
- Even though I'm a cat person, I really, really want a dog.
- I actually used to play sports. Because I don't do gendered leagues anymore, I don't play, but I've been looking for mixed/gender-neutral/queer sports teams. Baseball and basketball specifically!
- I started questioning my identity in 2019; I'm no closer to finding a label now than I was then. The difference is, now I don't want a label. I just am. :]

hey love!! just wanted to ask if you have any thoughts on continuing your fractured moon series? not necessarily soon, but just in general?
love you and your talent to gift us with such JUICY writing
Nonnie thank you so much for reaching out!
It genuinely means so much to know that people still care. Thank you.
I have every intention of continuing the series. I have the whole thing planned out. My motivation for writing has been coming and going and with the zine project I'm spearheading, I've been targeting most of my motivation there. @the-oscar-isaac-collective
I 100% plan to finish though, it means a lot to know you're interested <3 I'm hoping to get time/desire to work on it in the near future!
