In regards to the proship question (I’m a diff anon lol) I’d also like to respectfully ask if dark content writing and pro/comshipping are the same thing? Because I was under the impression they had a few differences 😭 I thought proshipping was an unhealthy coping mechanism/more often than not the glamorisation or romanticisation of darker topics, and that dark content writing was more of an exploration of those topics in a way that doesn’t act like it’s okay? Does that make sense? 😭 I’m not really sure how to word it

as far as i understand it, ’proshipping’ is literally just defined as being supportive of shipping no matter the pairing. you’re ”pro” shipping, even if the ships are taboo. it doesn’t mean you romanticize them - and it doesn’t have to be a coping mechanism either. it can just be exploring darker topics in writing, like you said!! and dark content is even more simple because it’s literally just a term used to describe…. dark content. which a lot of proship fics would fall under. basically, ”dark content” is an umbrella term that is only used to describe the contents of a fic, not the author’s intentions or personal beliefs… i hope that makes sense 😭

i think it’s important to make that distinction because i see a lot of people on this app who are vocally supportive of dark content, recognizing that it’s possible to explore topics in writing without supporting them irl (i have quite a few gore-leaning wips, and that doesn’t mean i have homicidal urges irl, yk? 😭) — but they still draw a firm line when it comes to proshipping. and maybe i just don’t understand the terms enough, but it confuses me because i really don’t think there’s a difference between writing a character/reader fic and a character/character fic… dark content or not. i totally understand feeling more uncomfortable around the latter because frankly i am too, but. there’s no actual difference between them. like. objectively. fics about taboo ships fall under the dc umbrella.

to word things in a more simple way… neither of these terms carry an inherent sense of the author’s intentions. i don’t think there are many dc writers/proshippers out there that think the irl equivalent of what they’re writing is okay (and if some of them do then i think it goes without saying that i want absolutely nothing to do with them) — they’re just exploring darker topics in writing, like you said!! and even though most of that content is triggering to me, i support their freedom to write what they want.
