dunno if this is something you wanted other people's inputs on, but as far as 'what happens to the bodies when they respawn', i've always personally gone with the idea that the corpse dissapates. theres ways to keep parts of it, if you know how. but to me people in minecraftia only get a shock of horror through them when their friend's body doesn't fade out from the limbs in

i don't actually headcanon anyone in minecraftia with immortality other than people with a 'hero's blessing' which isn't common at all, and inevitably because you have a role in some prophecy. it's not common enough for there to be a lot of information about it, so xeph doesn't trust it'll last at all, and cloning was a thing back on his planet but only for the very rich or very important, and even then they did age. so, after everything xeph sets up a cloning lab for himself and his friends (which becomes his friend's friends and their friends because, really, its not more difficult to add 5 chambers than 1)

only people he or his inner circle care about don't age, however. those labs start mid Voltz and slowly become yoglabs!

WHY I LOVE ZADR!!!

So this is a whole ass giant long post of me absolutely spewing my feelings of love for ZADR, it was the very first thing I wrote when I made this blog and I think it’s a nice, positive thing for my fellow shippers to inhale and enjoy 👌👌

it was originally a reply to mitarashiart’s post about why HE loves ZADR (link in replies) but I decided to delete that and make my own post since MY WHOLE ENTIRE TEXT WALL WAS SHOWN IN THE REPLIES and drowned out anyone else who was trying to talk (thanks tumblr mobile u fuckin idiot)

I had also posted a summary of an AU that I’m working on in the original post, but decided to remove it since it just about doubled the length (I’m thinking about posting it separately along with the wips I’ve been putting together, we’ll see 👀)

But ANYWAY, here is about a million reasons why I think ZADR is the fucking best, so if you like reading gushy gay ship feelings, please enjoy ❤️❤️❤️

SOOO, holy hell y’all my journey back into this fandom has been a wild and unique experience for me, i went from adding invader zim to my bookmarks on kisscartoon, rewatching the series, finding out theres a movie coming out, finding out there was a shitload of content i’d never seen before (commentaries, lost episode scripts and audios, panels, the COMIC, episodes i’d never seen because the dvd i used to watch was scratched!! and a FUCKLOAD of quality modern fan art like oh my GOD) and finally curiously googling ‘zadr’ (which i was way into when i was maybeee 13/14) to see if there was any interesting new art, and holy hell, mita (the artist above) singlehandedly THREW me down the hole into modern zadr hell, first with his absolutely stunning IZ art (all his art is dope tho check him out yo), then reading the above explanation put the final nail in the coffin like, 100%

so i wanted to add onto his post here on why this ship got me so fucked up, both for anyone who might be wondering why on earth i’m shipping two characters from a kid’s show (i’m very aware how weird that is at first glance trust me) and also so i can get some ideas down for possible future reference (will i ever draw them? maybe)

(first of all, a disclaimer, and this is not pleasant to write but it’s important to address for clarity’s sake: I have no interest in romantic or sexual relationships between minors, and do not ship zim and dib as they are presented canonically in the show (as children). what i’m interested in is the conceptualized relationship they may have as modern adults, and i view zadr more as taking the concepts of existing characters and experimenting with them with different interpretations, which i personally think is a constructive and fun creative outlet, especially if these characters hold personal significance for you (childhood faves of course). growing up together is an important facet of their relationship, and certainly they were important to each other even as children (see: mopiness of doom) but as an adult i’m personally curious about what kind of adults they might’ve become, and that’s the focus of my interest. i’ll still be reblogging regular IZ art because it’s dope but if you see shippy looking art of them as tiny lil beans its either friendship or chibis (and i personally headcanon zim as getting taller with dib but some people stick with his canonical height when drawing them as adults, which is super short. it still doesn’t mean he’s a kid). aaand i wish i didnt have to write this and it would just be obvious but we live in a sick sad world and it is sourced from a children’s cartoon so i feel its necessary. end of disclaimer)

NOW THAT THAT’S OUT OF THE WAY

- ok, first reason’s a bit obvious - the nostalgia. holy hell, the feeling of rediscovering a ship that was popular when i was a preteen during the mid 2000s and discovering a totally new perspective on it as an adult comes with an almost totally overwhelming sense of nostalgia and comfort, as well as inspiration!! the kind of art that seems so common for zadr, these sketch pages of scenes and expressions and visual gags where artists would just scribble every idea they had and LOVE doing it, this was exactly the kind of art that made me so passionate about drawing as a kid, and it still sparks such a powerful feeling of love and admiration for me to this day. fan content of iz and zadr is simultaneously achingly familiar and totally new and fascinating, and it just makes me SO damn happy to consume, it is most definitely my new comfort content. and just, GOD. THE ART!! SO GOOD. FUCK

- now for the characters themselves: for some reason i just really love the thought of a mid twenties, modern Dib?? lanky goth dork, disaster bi, depressed as shit, uses bad sweaters and memes to cope?? when i was a kid i didn’t even LIKE Dib, but now i totally sympathize with him! he’s just a hyper obsessive nerd wishing there was more to life than the situation he got stuck with, how wildly relatable. he was a pretty big asshole as a kid (even to people besides zim) but he was also totally isolated and constantly bullied, so there’s a lot of room for growth. i feel there’s a lot of juicy character development potential for that boy, and there’s always been a special place in my heart for characters who are totally sad and screwed and hopeless, but there’s one thing, or person, that means the world to them and could possibly save them…

- aliens. Zim. i love nonhuman characters, i love monsters, i love aliens, i love characters that don’t understand human shit (and thus have much less room for shame or fear bc theyre just totally oblivious the negatives of modern society) and need guidance (bonding!!) from their human. i also love morally grey characters and characters with skewed logic, they’re always really interesting, and Zim himself just has such a unique personality and set of mannerisms, he contradicts himself a lot and you can never quite expect how he’ll behave, and i love that in a character, it makes them super versatile and fun, especially since there’s so many different possibilities for their development. Also, Zim is a gremlin, a little shit, and a disaster. I also love those traits in a character. And don’t even get me started on his character design?? big sparkly eyes? expressive antennae? monster teeth? complimenting colors? he’s adorable.

- mutual obsession. for someone like Dib, who seems almost repulsed by how boring and slow the people around him are, Zim quite literally personifies Dib’s  escapist fantasies, both as an inhuman entity from beyond the stars, and as a person who’s knowledge, charisma and mystery far exceeds that of anyone Dib has met in his entire life. (so basically what i’m saying is that for a shunned, jaded misanthropist, an actual alien is terribly alluring, even if said alien is dangerous, stupid, and possibly insane). not to mention Zim vindicates Dib’s entire life passion, the supernatural! Even when their relationship is totally negative, there is not a single inch of room for Dib to get tired of Zim. as mita explained, they validate each other. for Zim, WHO AGAIN, IS TOTALLY SHUNNED, ISOLATED, AND HATED BY EVERYONE HE KNOWS, Dib is the only person in the universe who gives a single shit about him!! he gives Zim credit as a threat, a capable invader, which if you ask me is the sole thing Zim is after (he’s hellbent on his mission because it would win him the approval of the tallest, all he’s ever wanted is recognition from the people he thinks so highly of). He literally gets depressed when Dib isn’t around to pay attention to him, not even the tallest were enough to motivate him before Dib came back. these two have no one and nothing without each other, and while lifelong nemeses is fine and dandy, i personally prefer friendship, affection and love, cause i’m a softie like that. how could they possibly get there after years of actively trying to kill each other?? well, i think under just the right circumstances it could become a possibility after a long, long time.

- growth. i. love. me. some. good. character growth. especially for characters with trauma/mental illness, bc again, relatable. these boys have issues, and as mita mentioned, their canon stories are actually INCREDIBLY sad! but the happy thought is, they could recover! they could help each other recover, for little reason other than the two are the only source of happiness for each other. now of course this also opens the gate for angst lovers, but at the same time offers potential for comforting, uplifting content of the boys supporting and inspiring each other, maybe even to the point of becoming happy and healthy enough to create the lives they want for themselves (as in appreciating life and doing things that make them actually happy instead of the delusions of grandeur they both sought when they were younger). gimme that positive shit and let the poor beans be happy  щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

- LITTLE THINGS. LITTLE THINGS THAT ONLY COME WITH CHILDHOOD FRIENDS. WITH HUMAN/NONHUMAN. WITH THE SHOW’S WEIRD LOGIC. Zim being the person Dib knows best and vice versa. Zim having an involuntary respect/admiration for Dib because he’s tall. Learning each other’s needs, limits, and communication methods, both emotionally and biologically. Sensitive antennae. Affectionate bickering. Being less insecure bc your partner literally has no idea why you see your flaws as flaws. Laughing at the flaws they do notice because they make no sense. Zim only wanting to eat waffles and chow mein. Dib being forced to overcome his depression lethargy and stay hygienic/keep the apartment clean because Zim has a sharper sense of smell and is afraid of germs. Endless conversation about anything and everything because they’re from literally different worlds, and endless intrigue. TOUCHING. TALKING. DOING EVERYTHING LIKE ITS THE VERY FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS NEEDING THE OTHER TO GUIDE THEM. HOLY HELL THERE IS SO MUCH POSSIBILITY FOR TINY LITTLE MOMENTS THAT MEAN THE WORLD. FUCK. GOT ME FUCKED UP.

Stole this from @potter-at-the-disco and as sure as heck nobody will ask me all of this bunch but I wanted to answer them all the same, I’m doing them in their entirety now. Tagging @fandom-glazed and @luckymoony (I can’t properly tag you for some reason, http://luckymoony.tumblr.com/) if you guys want to do this. 1. Which Hogwarts house are you? Ravenclaw, proudly so. 2. Who is your favourite professor at Hogwarts? Remus. By far. He’s the kind of teacher that we would need a hundred times over and more in our schools. 3. Would you have an owl, cat, or toad? ohmygod give me an owl to pet and send my letters, I still want to have my much loved black cat Nonny at home back tho 4. Favourite character and why? Ufff, tough one. Albus Dumbledore is turning more and more into my favourite at the time because Fantastic Beasts gives him even more depths, aspects of the Harry Potter books make more sense now and I’ve developed a good many headcanons about him and his feelings over the decades by now. On the other hand, I still adore Luna to pieces because she’s so loving and the special kind of person that I tend to gravitate to in reality. Also, I sure as heck relate to being bullied all your damned school career. Can’t really decide, honestly. 5. Pro or anti Marauders? Okay, this is a direct contradiction to having been bullied for 7 years: I’m a bit conflicted about them. I love the Marauders as a concept of very strong male friendship, coming of age, growing up in war times... Still, I’m well aware how shitty a person James and Sirius had been towards Severus, and man, I was so sorry to see him dangle upside down in 7.2, but it’s that friendship aspect that fascinates me. (And Wolfstar, Remus and Sirius, will forever be my OTP that I consider very much in tune with the canon and you can pry it from my cold dead hands.) Even if I never got the whole enemies to lovers between Lily and James. Until somebody explains to me how that happened, I’ll be a bit sceptic about that. I mean, a guy pestering you for a date who just won’t get the hint to leave you bloody alone already? Meh. 6. Avada Kedavra, Crucio, or Imperio? Man, this is a cruel one. Imperio, I’d say, cause it’s the most “““harmless”““ one. Take this with a huge grain of salt. 7. Favourite book and why? At the moment, Jane Eyre. Read it just before Christmas last year for uni and adored it from start to finish for all its directness, unmasked honesty of the conditions of early victorian times, Jane being the most self-respecting person I have ever encountered in a book and the tender love story between her and Mister Rochester. 8. Who do you think was the best father figure towards Harry? Remus. I still wish he could have grown up under his tender care. 9. Favourite movie and why? Interstellar. No unnecessary love story despite the fact that the setting very much would have allowed one between the main character Cooper and the female young Doctor Brand, for once, secondly, I’ve been in love with realistic space movies for ages and this one is by far the best in my opinion. The relationship between Cooper and his daughter Murphy is so heartbreakingly loving from start to finish, I always, ALWAYS cry during the last half hour and frankly, the director Christopher Nolan is a genius. To finish it all perfectly, the score comes from Hans Zimmer. And if Nolan and Zimmer in combination aren’t reason enough to watch a movie, I don’t know what. ... Ah, wait, you asked about my favourite Harry Potter movie, right? That would be 7.1 for the terrors of war displayed realistically for the first time and the Shell Cottage scenes with Dobby that moved me to tears. Also, riding a majestic dragon will get me every time. 10. Which character do you relate to most, and why? A mixture of Luna and Hermione. People say I’m like the latter one all the time due to my perfectionism in History and Literature (that honestly only developed when I started uni last semester, I was a mixture of okay and shit at school) and, as I said, being bullied makes you like the bullied characters more. But she’s unbroken. I admire that a lot in her. It sure as hell didn’t leave me as untouched... 11. Who was the most evil character? Umbridge. Discussion over. No, seriously, I’m well aware that Voldemort was a fascist, killing people, using Black Magic, yada yada, and Bellatrix was mad and cruel, the Dursleys abused and neglected Harry... but who didn’t hate Umbridge the most? Let’s be entirely honest there. :D 12. Thoughts on Severus Snape? Misunderstood arsehole. His character is fascinating and I loved his redemption ark, but I’d never in a lifetime want him anywhere near children to teach because he was the picture example of How Not To Be A Teacher At All. Being amused by scaring students, a fucking cynic (which stems from his character, yes, but keep that out of the class room please), favouring and mistreating certain students due to their House (or parents, for that matter)... Nope. I’ve had enough of that type in my school time, thank you very much. But as a character, he’s very interesting indeed. If you want to read a Snape that’s just as grumpy, magically capable, dark and dangerous but very much lovable in the end, read Naomi Novik’s Uprooted. Trust me. The wizard the Dragon is Snape 1:1 and it’s just so hilarious how blatant the adaption was done, I loved it. 13. Who was the bravest character in Harry Potter and why? Harry himself, I think. To sacrifice yourself so that others can live is the greatest act of bravery in my opinion. He stood up for others time and time again, somehow survived years of neglect and difficult years in school at the best of times, he would have had every right to throw it all to hell at one point, turn his back on everybody and leave. But he didn’t. 14. Best subject at Hogwarts? Transfiguration and Charms would fascinate me the most, I think, because essentially it’s the core of everyday magic. It fascinates me infinitely what one could do with Magic in Harry Potter. 15. Worst subject at Hogwarts? Potions, by far. I can’t cook, I’d be shite at Potions. xD 16. Who would be your enemy or enemies at Hogwarts? I absolutely agree with Harry that Draco was the worst, although I ship the two to death in a fanon sense and in the movies. I hate bullies and Draco was precisely that. Yes, he was scared, forced to do horrible things and under a lot of pressure by his parents, but he was arrogant and said horrible things from the very beginning until he finally grew up in book 7. You asked for my enemy, not for the worst character, because he’s absolutely not. 17. Who would be your best friend at Hogwarts? I’d probably gravitate towards Luna, Seamus, Hermione... Those are the people I’d like to have as friends. 18. If available, would you use a love potion on someone? Nope. 19. Favourite Weasley? The twins. By far. I love them so much. :D 20. Favourite Death Eater? O.o Uhm, ehrm, Snape? If he counts? Because he’s not murderous and mad and all, you know? 21. What would your boggart be? Either a very big spider, Aragog would make me scream like a child, or my math teacher from 10th grade. Yeah, no. The giant spider. Definetely the spider. 22. What is your patronus? So, Priya is kinda an obvious dom, which already can be seen by the way she treats her houseboys. No arguing here, at least not from my part, even though I can def imagine Priya as a sadomasochist, meaning she doesn’t only enjoy causing pain, but also receiving it. Anyway, that’s a different topic. 😅

My point is... There is no way Vega is a sub. NO. WAY. Not with her, not with anyone. (Even though I can imagine them switching it up since they’re both huge doms.)

Your way of supporting your claim is naming the 20s scenes as examples. Honestly, I’m very willing to analyze them. And I’m happy to do this, because Priya x Adam (Pradam, hehe) is def my OTP and I’m glad to be discussing this with you.

Beforehand I gotta say: I take this very seriously, so don’t be shocked about me dropping a huge ass analysis, lmao. This is a lot of interpretation, and I know it’s very vague, but you mentioned the 20s scenes and this is the info I got out of them, so here we go:

1920s Scene 1, Chapter 13:

“The door swings open, and Vega steps into the warehouse with Priya, his arm wrapped around her waist.”

I’ve done a bit of research on this (I just love them this much), and him having his arm around wrapped around her waist doesn’t only (or at least, most likely) mean boyfriend/girlfrend, it’s also a way of him protecting her, having her close. It’s a way of saying “She’s mine”. 

That fits Vega very well, since having his arm around her waist is the closest he gets to being “in control” over her. I mean, they could have held hands as well, but that’d be more romantic, which definitely doesn’t fit the relationship as much. Generally, he’s very possessive. He definitely considered her “his”.

Then, Vega greats Kamilah and Adrian. Note how Priya hasn’t said a single word yet. She’s being in the background, waiting for Adam to take the offensive and introduce her. That, he does when Kamilah asks him who his companion is.

“This lovely creature is Priya Lacroix.”

Notice how he says “creature”? This made me wonder a lot when I first thought about it. Like, why the hell doesn’t he just say “lady” or “woman” or whatever? “Creature” sounds so submissive. It’s usually said by humans to other humans who look or behave extremely odd to the point that their humanity is being questioned. So, why would he call her that?

Then, it hit me. When Priya meets MC for the first time in Chapter 2, the first thing she calls her is... “creature”. The fact of Priya using this to describe her prey clearly proves that it’s a submissive term. Google defines a “creature” either as an animal, or as “a person or organization considered to be under the complete control of another.” Who loves and craves control? Adam. Interesting...

Priya’s response is a happy “Hiya, doll” (to Kamilah), so she obviously accepts this and isn’t surprised or whatever.

Furthermore, there are two ways of Vega keeping Priya “in place”, regarding the whole Gaius situation. Firstly, Kamilah asks why Vega brought her to their meeting, and she says...

“Not to worry. I know my onions.”

This means that Vega has educated Priya beforehand about the whole situation. Gaius, the others, everything. He told her, because he trusted her, which is super cute, and because he would never want Priya to act out of line, especially not in that scene. This is a matter of control. Over her.

That’s supported when Priya asks Kamilah for a cigarette using slang language, which Kamilah has expressed a lack of understanding of. Before she can even react to Priya’s ask, Vega tells her...

“No need to bother Kamilah, doll. I have some.”

Even the act of giving her a cigarette is a form of control. “Don’t bother Kamilah, I have some, so you can’t potentially act up” is a hard way of saying this, but if you think about it, it is what he’s thinking at the back of his mind, consciously or not. This doesn’t mean he didn’t love her, but he definitely controlled her at least in some way, so she would behave, be in no way able to offend Kamilah.

“Vega pulls out a gold cigarette case. He hands a cigarette to Priya and lights it with a match.”

This here is a tiny example of him being a control freak, by not letting her light the cigarette herself. Of course, it’s minimal at best. He’s also a gent, so, yeah. (A bigger one would be his reaction to the Ferals fighting Adrian where even Nicole told him to chill.)

Anyway, later, they talked about their party which isn’t a hint in my opinion, but does make me wonder what kinda party it was. She uses the word “blow”, meaning a party that is wild and crazy, and he says that “the party won’t wait for” them. They’re both grinning... Orgy? 😅😅😂

Regardless, Adam meets the peak of his dominance regarding Priya when she doesn’t bow down to Gaius and asks who he is. For the first time, Adam gets angry. He says...

“I apologize, Gaius. Priya here is new to the Continent and doesn’t yet know the lay of the land.”

He doesn’t let her speak or apologize herself, by speaking for her, about her. He takes everything regarding her into his own hands, the whole time. You’re talking to Priya? Well, you’re talking to Adam, too, automatically. He just makes it his business. The whole situation is new to her, yes, but you can’t deny that Vega takes full control. Especially here:

“Vega nudges Priya with his elbow, hard.”

Vega goes rough on Priya, huh? 😌 Well, quite obviously he has no problems with doing just that to make sure that she acts accordingly, the way he wants her to. I love how they added “hard”. He isn’t the gentle type, knowing she can take it. 😌😂

Priya’s reaction supports just that. She’s not debating him or anything - maybe she has learned not to already? Damn - but lets out a surprised “Oh!” and an immediate bow to meet both the needs of Gaius and Adam without hesitation. 

Now, imagine she would have debated him on it. There is no way he wouldn’t have shown her “her place”. Wanting to protect her is the whole reason, of course. I’m not saying he didn’t love her, just that he’s def displaying dominance (over her). 🌚

After Gaius reveals his full plan, everyone is shocked, and I love the mental image of this: 

“Priya looks up at Vega, eyes wide.”

Isn’t this totally cute? Her looking at him for comfort and reassurance when she’s unnerved, afraid, insecure? Him being her rock, at least for that moment? Doesn’t that make her a small bit dependent, too? In a way, he’s responsible for this, he brought her into the situation. She trusted him with this, let him lead, guide her. Which he did, throughout the whole meeting.

All in all, regarding this scene, I have not found a single situation of Priya displaying any sort of dom vibes over him, and wonder what you’re referring to? For me, it was the opposite. I mean, of course she’s Priya and generally hella dom, but here she’s “hiding” a bit behind Vega, unconsciously or not.

Regardless, he manouvers her through it. He’s in control the whole time, and unafraid to rebuke her roughly. He wanted her to act a certain way and expected that of her, not to disappoint him and do what he had told her before the meeting (explaining Gaius, etc.). Which brings me to my conclusion: Vega. Is. Dom.

1920s Scene 2, Chapter 16:

Sadly, we didn’t get as many hints here since the scene is mainly displaying the fight.

Firstly, they start off talking and a situation happens which makes me able to refer back to what I said about Adam immediately including himself when someone speaks to Priya. 

Here, it’s Lester, reminding her angrily that her complaining regarding the waiting time isn’t helping. Adam makes this his business, taking control, by defending her and saying... 

“We are all a little tense, Lester. Leave her be.”

Obviously, he doesn’t let her handle this herself even though she would have been able to defend herself. It’s a way of lovingly protecting her, which I find adorable, but also not hiding behind her or anything. “Leave my girl alone or else...” That is so dominant.

When Gaius asks them if they agree that his plan is bs, it’s a rare moment of Adam letting Priya speak for herself after he himself has voiced his opinion.

The absolute cutest moment is obviously him screaming at Gaius “Get away from her!” when he is choking her. (Only Adam is allowed to choke Priya. 😌😌😉😏)

Even before, he kept his focus on her during the fight, screaming “Priya, look out!” when Gaius gets her, and in the end even risking his life by attacking him.

How cute is that? 😭😭😍😍

Lastly, Adrian gives an order and “the others start to obey, but Vega pauses”. Unlike Priya, bae takes no orders. 💅

Analysis over. 😂

Like I said, there’s no way he’s a sub. It contradicts itself with his entire persona. His need of power was his fall. There is no way he’d give that power and control he craves away to someone else, in no aspect of life. Also, remember she’s a vampire way weaker than him, and was only 50+ while he was 200+.

I imagine they were rough on each other. She’s so dangerous, but not to him. He liked her to “show him what she can do”, but found her cute in the same way. Like, this kinda “She’s so cute when she kills people” thing. This reminds me of an NSFW Alphabet I made for them, in case you wanna check it out. 😂

I hope my analysis kinda supported my claim, even though I know some points are weak, because there’s a lot of interpreting going on. (If you even made it this far, lmao.) Maybe we could continue our conversation via chat, exchange some headcanons? I’d def be down, and thanks for the message. 🤗

Season 1, Episode 4

I channeled En for about a week and was too lazy to quit playing Resident Evil and finish this liveblog buuuut better late than never, right?! I may only manage one of these a week but I just had a bunch of fanfic ideas (unrelated to watching the episode) so I figured I’d press onward and finish these. Mostly cuz I’m really interested in getting to season 2 because the Beppus are my favorite. But for now- IT’S THE EPISODE WHERE THEY GET BABYFIED! OMG CUTENESS ABOUND.

Context wise, it’s obvious Kinshirou told him. I mean, he might be meaning he’s since forgotten the wish (which would explain his falling out with Kinshirou in another dimension other than the curry thing) but showing that flashback in such detail and then having Atsushi remember it (or hinted that he remembers it) but without hinting that he knows what Kinshirou wished for is just kind of.... idk it bothers me. That line wasn’t 100% necessary, or perhaps it could have been something like “I don’t remember what he wished for”. Of course, for all I know he could have said that but crunchyroll could have translated it poorly idk.

Buuuut that’s the end! That was mostly just an enjoyable “aww” episode with not a lot of substance other than we discover that Kinshirou is dramatic AF, En is self conscious (perhaps even moreso than Atsushi, or possibly just vain) and Io is definitely embarrassed by public nudity. Hm. Maybe you guys have some more intelligent commentary.

I’m gonna shoot to get Ep 5 done in the next couple days (maybe hours... but this shit takes forever) because I want to finish compiling all this stuff so I can get to writing these plot bunnies that just bit me in the ass... buuuut I need research. Either Yumoto was hoping his senpais would teach him how to be popular with the ladies, or he’s just confused as to what in the hell it is that older boys want. This entire scene is just a clusterfuck of innuendo BUT I’M GONNA OVER ANALYZE IT ANYWAY.

The surface meaning of En and Atsushi’s statements here- or what the audience is supposed to get- is that being popular with girls will only get you so far. It may get you ‘love’ but having a girlfriend means jack squat if you don’t have guy friends (most likely to brag to). 

It also could be taken that En at least would rather appreciate women than exert his energy into making them lust after him, which is rather sweet if you think about it.

Atsushi’s point also draws attention to the fact that stereotypical displays of machismo are much more well-received by other men than women- ie outward displays of strength, aggression, bragging about sexual encounters... er- yeah. No need to go on, there.

So. In order to be a well-rounded man, a man needs to be popular/be admired by other men! So you aren’t a lonely loser the rest of your days.

Buuut... because I’m me... LET’S LOOK AT THE SUBTEXT IN RELATIONSHIP TO THEIR SPECULATED SEXUALITIES 8D

En basically says straight up it’s more beneficial to be admired by men. Putting aside the above statements about admiring women... En’s likely gay. Fosho.

And the top screencap of Yumoto, instead of just clarifying his senpai’s intentions, that could mean that he’s more interested in girls. HOWEVER-

With a c: face, Yumoto admits his heart flutters watching rugged young men!

Bi Yumoto anyone? (He also unironically uses the word ‘flicks’ but that’s either a translator thing or another example of a mysterious dialect but ON TOPIC-)

At least within the context of this scene, Yumoto implies he’d be interested in being popular with girls and he is attracted to at very least a certain type of man. Buuut the rest of this episode (which I will get to later) potentially directly contradicts this implication as to Yumoto’s romantic and/or otherwise attraction.

It’s too bad that we don’t get Ryuu or Atsushi’s opinions on the matter- although Ryuu makes his attractions pretty clear just from his character (and then the subtext with Io). Atsushi is a bit of a mystery, for now. 

As for Io, we get this  exchange-

And here is where Yumoto contradicts his earlier implications. Okay. 1) Writers make up your minds, although 2) ...shades of gray here.

Perhaps Kurotori’s feather spell represents sexual love (Eros for all you YOI fans~) and Yumoto is either a) too young/innocent to understand or b) somewhere on the ace spectrum. The others were affected because they are either simply older than Yumoto/past puberty or allosexual to the point where the spell could manipulate their feelings despite their existing attractions whatever those may be.

Yumoto’s earlier comments, then, could be taken to mean simply romantic attraction, even though his wording of his “heart fluttering” thanks to Yakuza men is a bit misleading in that respect. (Disclaimer: I am not on the ace spectrum so perhaps I am misrepresenting/misinterpreting here- please correct me if I have made a mistake in my understanding of asexuality- I definitely do not want to offend anyone! Just analyzing~) 

Though to play the other side, En’s comment about marriage, even though he’s under the influence of a spell, also indicates that the spell has romantic components as well as potentially sexual ones. If the spell plays to BOTH- wouldn’t Yumoto be affected as well, based on his earlier assertions?

OR PERHAPS- if it is both, Yumoto is ALSO potentially aromantic and his comments were purely of an aesthetic nature or self projection (that is, he wants to be a dashing Yakuza heartthrob, not necessarily date one). Or he was simply trying to relate to his senpais and was bluffing the entire time.

Damn, this episode can seem REALLY deep if you squint hard enough. Headcanons, abound!

Moving on- WHEN IN DOUBT, HUG THE ENEMY!

Now I’m starting to see some cleverness on the part of the writers- hear me out below- but first- MORE CUDDLES

With this, Yumoto can be read several different ways. 

On the surface and probably most importantly, regardless of what Yumoto’s personal attraction/orientation is (if he’s even figured it out at this point), he knows love at its purest form. He loves his brother. He loves his senpais (even though at this point they barely know each other- Yumoto probably latches on quickly). But more importantly, he is so in tune with his own feelings he realizes that self love is at the core of any type of love. That if you aren’t secure in yourself, if you don’t care about yourself on some level, how can anyone else care about you either?

This is another reason why I love Yumoto even though he can get a bit heavy-handed at times and seem like a one-note character; HE ISN’T.

Yumoto is incredibly introspective and even though his senapis make comments about how he just kind of shoves everything together to fit the situation he really does understand the monster-ified characters’ insecurities.

(Which can lead to some sad headcanons about how Yumoto has probably felt all of these things at one point or another... oh no...)

But back to my over-analysis of Yumoto’s orientation- with this... it’s really up to interpretation.

He can be read as a young character who hasn’t figured things out yet, he can be read as interested in romantic relationships of any variety but not necessarily anything else, he can be read as only interested in platonic relationships- anything. And while the inconsistency in his portrayal can be a bit maddening- it’s GREAT headcanon opportunity.

Thus, unless s3 gives Yumoto a canon interest- he’s whatever you think he is. Which is AWESOME! DO YOU SEE WHY I LOVE THIS SMOL CINNAMON ROLL?

Aaaand some closing, not very deep thoughts to wrap up-
