Mia instinctively reaches out and takes her hand, stopping her from doing so. She wishes she could say that it's mainly because she wants to help Iris feel better, but unfortunately, that isn't the entire story. The robes they wear are passed down from acolyte to acolyte. There are spirits woven into the cloth, into the thread. To desecrate the robes and destroy them would be to destroy their ancestors, so Mia has to stop Iris from doing so. If Iris knows what Mia is doing, she doesn't say anything about it either way.

hehe i love rediscovering parts of my writing that i don't even remember! thank you for reminding me of the existence of left behind <3 since it was on frantic fanfic i think i wrote the whole thing in 9 minutes and never looked back LOL

it is No Surprise that i love the feys hehe and i think the specific lore i give to kurain changes from fic to fic, but the main idea remains the same. i like the thought of acolytes believing that spirits are all around them - in the plants, the air, the water, the house. it's a reminder of how inconsequential their own lives are - which can just as easily take a bad turn.

bc if the spirits are everywhere, when do you ever get a moment to yourself to just Breathe? they're everywhere, and that means they're inside you too. you are never belonging only to yourself. and i think that works with the way kurain and its cultures/traditions can just as easily be oppressive. it's no coincidence that most of the feys have left the village at one point or another.

i think...i touched on this in Words Are but Wind too but...i love the idea of kurain deifying spirits so much that they pay no mind to those who are actually alive. that Feys are only revered for their channeling ability but not what actually makes them Them. i think growing up with that knowledge - that you don't matter, that you are nothing but a vessel - can really Fuck You Up.

and this passage, too, is kind of like that. kurain is a plague, one that worms its way so deep that it never leaves. it is a spirit you forever channel. does mia actually care about the robes? probably not. does she even realize what she's doing? isn't she, just like the rest of the village, putting the dead above the living? she says she cares about iris and wants to take her pain away - but at this moment, the pain of the spirits is more important.

it's always interesting to me to see how the hold kurain has on everyone manifests when they leave the village. like, it would be easy to think that mia just completely turns her back on it. but...why does she still wear her magatama? do you think she ever takes pictures of herself, or does she still hold on to that belief that the vessel isn't nearly as important as the spirit?

and iris living at hazakura temple! did she feel like she was returning to something familiar, an old friend, or did it feel like walking back into the jaws of an animal that will never let you go? did dahlia feel like she was cutting herself loose? or does she, too, feel that ancestral guilt that's been coded into her over generations?

but of course, everything is just two sides of the same coin. the whole 'ancestors woven into the robes' thing can be good too! like that one scene in the anime where morgan puts maya in the box with mia's old robe, and she feels like she's having a great dream.

even morgan - does she genuinely want the position of master? or does she just think it's an honor because she was told so? so much of it is just a matter of opinion - but i constantly ask myself if the feys were ever able to form their own opinions, or if all they know is what was forced into them.

He doesn't need to justify anything because he fully accepts his choices and does not need the approval of others to be or do something.

He'd shrug and say " Yeah, ok, I did. So?" and he would be curious to see how people would react.

He has long since liberated himself from the good and bad opinions of the world.

I'm going to go with Marianne! Her quiet voice and haunting voice have captivated me, though I do frequently forget she's a deer since I recruited her to the Blue Lions my first playthrough 😅

05. favorite blue lion?

all of them hnnng it's so hard to choose, it literally changes any given day (usually bouncing between the F4 + Annette) but currently I'm going to say Dimitri. I really really enjoy not only his character, but how he's presented, in that he has a dark past and he carries significant trauma with him, but when we meet him he is gentle and kind and polite and trying so hard, and when you first ask about his parents he just says "They died." For a large part of the early game you don't even know the extent of what happened, which makes the eventual reveal all the more heartbreaking. That's just like one aspect of his character, but it's an aspect I've been really appreciating lately!

06. favorite black eagle?

Also a hard choice, but I'm going to say Ferdinand. I read a post somewhere that described him as a "Disney prince in a world with neither the patience nor the space for one" or something to that effect and it just sticks with me. The only stipulation is that he MUST be in a non-Crimson Flower route, because Rebel Ferdie has my heart in a vice grip

This is probably more... superficial? that what this question is asking? But I remember really relating to Ingrid in her support with Annette about makeup. I'm also a woman who doesn't begrudge other people who wear makeup but don't find it fun myself, and I've had friends and family like Annette who do enjoy it and want to doll me up and I'm just like... okay? If it's fun for them, I can be a canvas lol. And I appreciated how the game didn't frame Ingrid as any less feminine for not enjoying makeup, or Annette as silly for enjoying makeup. Idk it's small but I appreciated it.

tbh not really, i'm a very small and slow artist with too many grand projects but i love the validation and dreamily think about being some kind of tumblr famous someday. i've had some outliers this year (like aufest :3) but posting still feels a bit like throwing darts at the stars. Mostly tho, I'm very glad for what i do get. and as much as I'd love to be the kind of artist whose art people go feral over, i can see why most of my posted work isn't that yet

So no i'm not, in like a 'I wanna get better at art' kinda way y'know? i'll keep making art in my tiny corner of the internet bc like what am i gonna do, not share the brainrot? i would Simply Explode if i didnt

17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?

I found a fabric flammability document from the 70s and learned that out of the natural fibres, wool is the least flammable and will eventually extinguish itself.

Cotton is highly flammable, catches on fire easily, and burns quickly. Silk and linen burn almost as easily as cotton.

Other man-made fibres like acetate, nylon, and polyester are more likely to melt.

21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?

Ahahah, okay, so, because "the height of romance" has some kink exploration in it... I actually almost included a scene with the mirror and some praise kink, but then after a while I decided it didn't quite fit. Like something was missing? But then my brain was like "BUT WAIT. KNIVES!!" and that fit a lot better given the circumstances, so I cut out the mirror/praise kink stuff.

Maybe it'll show up in a future fic. Who knows :')

22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?

Usually, no. :') I tend to go in with just a vague concept or idea and then wing it. If it's longer than a drabble, it'll probably take me at least 800ish words of writing until I have an idea of how I want it to end. But! a lot of the time things change too, because what I write inspires new ideas, or maybe the path to get there gets more convoluted...

I do have one WIP with the beginning and ending written though! But that's mostly because it's something that is very tied to how the fic starts. That said, though, if I need to change it because it doesn't fit with what I end up writing in the middle, I don't mind scrapping things if that's how the story wants to unfold hehe.

5) If you had to sell your soul in order to prevent your immediate family reading one of your fics, which fic would it be?

look. we were just having dinner with my parents, and I was showing them sketches my friend sent me earlier, explaining the scene they are from and the characters' actions, backstories and motivation that culminated in these expressions. my soul is worth more than this.

9) If you could turn your fanfic history into a cake, what flavour would it be?

we have a strawberry & almond cake, which is very good. very fluffy and a nice refreshment in the spring months, which are my favourite <3

You mentioned in Noel’s bio how he has severe face blindness-, how would he go about dealing that with his darling, then? Knowing he can’t see their face? Would it frustrate him? Intrigue him? Would it make his tendencies worse or better? Just curious.

Noel is born with his face blindness so he has since learnt to deal with it. For most people, he just relies on context clues or their hair/clothes/voice etc. to recognize them.

For his s/o though, i've always had half an idea in mind that they used to be childhood friends...

(yes his natural hair colour is white. if he ever finds you looking at this picture he will be so embarrassed.)

this became a long ass post of noel lore so

Noel might be able to handle his prosopagnosia now, but that wasn't always the case. Being a somewhat shy kid, the inability to recognize other people made it harder for him to make friends. He just feels disconnected from most people --- sometimes he looks in the mirror and can hardly register that he's staring at himself.

I'd imagine this is where his s/o comes in, and they become a very stable, comforting presence in his life until one day, they moved away without saying anything.

So to Noel, his s/o is someone that he knows on a deep and personal level, and he can basically recognize them out of instinct.

Of course, his condition still frustrates him very much --- what kind of lover is he if he can't even remember his partner's face? That's why he dedicates himself to remembering every single detail of his s/o: counting every freckle and lash; replicating in his mind the exact lilt of their voice, the quirks of their body language...

but maybe in a very cheesy way, he's thankful for his condition? because it means, every day, he can re-live how he met his s/o and the first experience of seeing their face ...

... that lean makes me think of the lean Bdubs did in the syncing comic....which if course begs the question: Did Etho pick up this habit of leaning to indicate processing/suspicion from Bdubs or did Bdubs pick it up from Etho? (or is it just a good way to show that emotion in comic form XD) Also.... the hair clip... My impression is that the flashback is from pretty early on. Is the hair clip a precursor to the well known headband? In universe, why a headband? Since they both do wear headbands... Was the headband originally Bdub's? Is... I know Etho is scared during the whole Last Life thing... is he thinking that Bdubs is planning specifically on targeting one of the androids? Or is that his fear talking?

... And after all that speculating... Ouch, Poor Tango!! ( i know this is an important event for Tango, but we don't see any of his reaction or feelings about any of this yet)

this is basically a mini comic breakdown! just rambling about some of the dbhc plot and mecahnics >:D

The lean is such a fun detail, i didn't even realize the similarities-- but it's actually a really nice (totally intentional) callback! I think Etho absolutely picked up those mannerisms from Bdubs, the same way Doc did from Ren, and so on so forth-- the androids, especially throughout season 8 and last life, are using their partnered hermits (and the other hermits in general) to learn what it means to be and act human-- vocal mannerisms, physical mannerisms, learning emotions for the first time and what it means to feel them, everything! I kind of see Season 8 as their "young" period-- their first season, the season they learn who they are and develop some of their most iconic traits. Etho is still himself, shyness and stoicism and all, but he learns his whimsy and silliness and teasing nature from being with bdubs for so long :)

THE HAIR CLIP <333 Yeah Etho's "Replaying Memory" moment is when Doc was checking out his "wounds" / the damage he sustained (from the initial creeper blast that caused his deviation) for the first time! At the time of the memory, It had probably been a little while since the actual initial incident where Bdubs had covered him up a little bit to hide the damage, but i'm sure doc or someone else noticed before long LDFKGJDF so this is their first like... "checkup"! So Etho is pretty young here (Doc too, but he already has his robot arm at this point, so...), maybe within the first month or two of season 8. So he definitely normally wears a bandana at this point (the same band bdubs made him wear initially to cover up the forehead cracks a little), but he's clipped his bangs back here so Doc can get a better look at the damage :)

I have a LOT of feelings about Etho's mental dialogue throughout last life, and it's very complicated and i won't be able to shut up about it so that's for another post. I will say, I don't think Etho ever truly thought Bdubs would Boogey kill him (though, doubt is a very powerful thing, so it turns out). I think Etho is still puzzling Bdubs out (though he's definitely learned quite a lot about him), especially when it comes to more serious situations like this, so the unknowns are definitely the biggest sources of fear for him. He can only do so much with the data he currently has, and the idea that a weapon so sharp could permanently damage any of the androids... it's an unsettling thought, regardless of whoever the mostly likely victim ends up being. (I don't think Etho expects it to be Tango, either-- not until he sees that look in Bdubs' eyes 10 seconds before it happens. I think Doc's little speech about their models is just helpful information for the reader and a sense of foreshadowing (as well as a reminder for Etho of how Not-So-Indestructible he is/the other androids are), not so much that etho thinks it's going to be tango after recalling the memory. Same for Bdubs. I dont think bdubs decided to target Tango until he was staring the back of his neck down and realized he could take the opportunity before he lost it). Anyway i've already rambled too much /silly

And lastly, Yes. This is, besides his deviation, probably Tango's most formative moment. The second time he truly experiences rage. I don't know if I could do a comic or an illustration that truly does his rage moment justice after he wakes up post-respawn and has a meltdown trying to kill bdubs, but knowing that Skizz wasn't built until s9 and is therefore missing from Last Life (AKA, Tango has no one other than Etho and Bdubs), just... makes this betrayal so, so much more painful. This betrayal is very much about Tango's rage, but it's also about his sense of trust and safety and his understanding of the way the world works. Hermitcraft is safety and jokes and support, and sure there's a bit of death here and there, but this is unlike anything he's ever known-- it's adrenaline and fear and threats and betrayal and. Anyway what a normal meltdown to have! And Etho can do nothing to calm him down except hold him back from killing bdubs (there's something to be said there too, about Tango knowing for certain now that Bdubs obviously chooses Etho over himself (Because come on, Bdubs wouldn't have killed Etho. Let's be honest here), but knowing too that Etho is choosing bdubs by not letting Tango get the revenge he so rightfully deserves...) Anyway. I think i'll explode if i think about this more
