12. Any books that disappointed you?

Oh I fucking love this question 😭 YES TOO MANY!!! I literally adore Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim, it is one of my favorite fantasy books of all time, but the sequel The Dragon’s Promise was SUCH a let down omfg! The plot was all over the place and I would’ve preferred if she had simply written a standalone. The characters felt regressive and the lack of supporting cast really bothered me. Shiori’s relationship with her family was SO important and then it was lackluster. Also I’ve seen complaints from EA readers that Lim mixed a lot of mythology together especially so in the sequel, and I got that vibe too because what the hell is Chang’e the Moon Goddess doing in a Japanese mythology book 😭 it was so random and I really did not like the ending.

God I waited forever to finally read Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating by Adiba Jaigirdar. Queer Bengali girls, even Sylheti and Muslim rep???? It was MADE for me, and yet it made me so angry for one reason. Hani spends the ENTIRE book just letting her white friends be racist and horrible to Ishu, and I’m supposed to ship that???? It literally enraged me. Other than that it was a solid book but I hated that so much.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown is one of the worst pieces of writing I’ve laid my eyes on, and I’m not shy about saying this because literally fuck that disgusting ass zionist man. The oppression in this world is so rudimentary and clearly written by someone who can’t fathom it in the slightest. The prose sucked, the MC is so hollow, the plot was incomprehensible. I’m shocked that people actually compared this to The Poppy War, a book inspired by the real mass rape and genocide in Nanking. While Red Rising is just mass rape written by a white man who has no idea how to show brutality otherwise. Dfkm 😭

Sorry lmfao I get so angry when I think about Red Rising and how many dudebros refuse to hear criticism about that shitty series 😭 but yeah those are my top 3 most disappointing reads!! there were a couple others but these were the most astonishing to me.

The alpha kids and their specific defiance of both homestucks gendered narrative AND real life societal expectations are so fun to think about to me!! but since we are talking about jake, his specific defiance of both homestucks models of masculinity and femininity in the context of his queerness is like the reason he is my fav character.

He props himself up that he wants to be the adventure "hero" in the homestuck sense (the hardheaded blue femme fatale) and the western media sense (the hardheaded action man) yet whenever pressed to actually act on what he says he always refuses or obfuscates. Because really what he wants is to just be himself! I really love the alpha kids because they all just want to be Themselves, not be restricted and defined by what is expected of them, (all the characters have this but the alphas particularly really hammer this home for me)

The heavy emphasis on their beta selves, the heteronormative archetypes they embodied and what went wrong in their lives that manifest as fears in their alpha selves... im always thinking about it. How differently society affects queer ppls choices in life and then the fact that they all get a second chance and getting to watch them live out that second chance and realize their queerness and them all caring so much abt eachother and wanting to aspire to be better FOR the ones they love!!!!!! it always tugs at my heart strings to ponder😢😢

IM SO GOOD AT GOING ON TANGENTS MY BAD but basically. The alpha kids explicit queerness and how despite the comic itself protesting, they are all shown to be deserving of love (of all kinds) And as a person who super heavily relates to jake, his experience with his own identity (and dirks unending adoration and love for him and likewise jakes belief and admiration of dirk) serves to me as a reminder that yknow! We are all worthy of love!! Even if we dont think ourselves to be (this is just the message of shrek.) and there is always hope to be found in things improving!!!!

But in a text thats explicitly queer and not shy about letting its queer characters do wrong in realistic ways i think this message is incredibly powerful and certainly one of the best things about the comic in my eyes. And i love embracing that in my art of the characters! Drawing queer (but here specifically trans) characters all getting to be proud of themselves and their appearances makes me feel proud of myself alongside them and I think its wonderful to be able appreciate other trans peoples experiences and looks through it too!!

I specifically in homestuck fandom dont really see anybody but twinks (usually dirk or eridan LMFAO) portrayed to be fem in any manner 😢 when jake is the most explicitly feminine man in the comic. (I think the transmisogyny thats kind of rampant in this fandom means people dont want to consider those outside conventional attractiveness being feminine or transfem identities outside binary transwomen if even that😭😭) I am being the change i wana see in the world 🙏 The amount of transfem fat gay bear jake in the world increases by one every time i post

So I see a common head canon to explain why Sky can sleep in everyone's bed is that after his parents died the village as a whole raised him (I love this headcanon so much)

But that got me thinking. Would young Sky's toys be spread across every house? Would he have to go on a mini hunt across the whole village to try finding which house he left his favorite blanket? Who's cooking does he prefer? How much did people miss him spending the night when he joined the academy?

I just. I had feels with these thoughts, and wanted to share them with you because I know he's you most blorbo shaped boy

HELLO I LOVE THIS!!! That’s adorable actually. I love this so much.

In my head, the islands in the sky are a lot more populated and numerous than shown in the game because of game limitations. It’s a fully functioning society, and Skyloft is the biggest island and the main city, but there are a lot more. Still, I don’t imagine there’s a lot of surplus in supplies and resources. Everyone has to be careful and only use what they have to so that everyone will have enough.

If resources are delegated by household, it would make sense that Sky has to be passed around. No one family would be able to spare the extra food or clothes or toys to take care of him full time. Oh and once little Sky is old enough to really grasp the concept of scarcity, he might feel some guilt at using other families resources. As soon as any of them realize he’s feeling that though they would quickly put an end to it. Everyone there loves him like family.

Skyloft would probably have to have some sort of system for taking care of orphans and like getting a different amount of resources per household but I don’t feel like thinking about that system rn so the headcanon remains 😂

I see a lot of fics with Pipit as Links big brother figure, and I love that headcanon. I imagine he spent a lot of time there. And I think he would’ve spent a lot of time at Zelda’s house too.

Oooohhhhhhhh AH I can see a scene in my head right now. Sky’s at Pipit’s house and Mallara is getting the boys ready for bed but then Sky realizes he doesn’t have his favorite Stuffy, and he CANNOT sleep without it (it’s a Loftwing plush named Brenda because I’m in charge hehehehehe). Sky is distraught and so Pipit comforts him while Mallara goes from door to door trying to find Sky’s Brenda.

I was tagged by @powerful-owl to post the last 6 sentences I wrote in a WIP. I'm cheating quite egregiously. It is far longer than 6 sentences. I cannot control myself to post just six sentences. This is from a tennis AU.

Max smiles into Daniel’s pec. “Going to hide on the farm forever?” 

“It’s not hiding if you know where I am.” 

“Still have the dirt bikes?” 

Daniel thinks of Max drenched in Australia's golden sun at 23 — his smile blinding as he took the bikes over jumps with the same ease he used to swing a racket. He'd spent days inventing funny backstories for the cows, making friends with the evil poodle at the nearest grocery store that Daniel swears is plotting to chomp off his leg, and diving off a boat into the ocean with reckless abandon. He took great glee in teasing Daniel from the water. Daniel always dipped a toe in and searched for anything that could kill him before he jumped.

Max hasn’t been back in the years since, but Daniel sometimes imagines Max in the mundane parts of his long, lazy days at home and subconsciously reaches out to find him in all the places he should still be.

“There’s a dirt bike for you any time you want,” Daniel promises, “and Monaco would miss me if I didn’t come back for a game of padel every so often.” 

Max presses a gentle kiss over the tan skin where he rests his chin. Daniel holds him tight to his chest and imagines the ball popping between them one final time tomorrow: current gentle smiles twisted into hard stares; orgasmic moans shifted into effortful grunts. He falls asleep with a fresh hard-on.

sorry I stumbled across your teddy Danny au on the tag and just saw the ask about him eating and why can't he just phase the food into his body? and it getting absorbed somehow. like a single cell organism almost. like imagine a little teddy holding a chicken wing to it's little mouth and it just going right through the fabric and reappearing with a piece missing a second later.

I saw that there are power restrictions at play but maybe since it's food it could be an exception because of like. survival instincts and stuff. but I don't know the details about how his powers are locked away so maybe I'm saying nonsense.

Don’t worry, you’re not annoying at all. And tbh, I did not think of that haha. And I also don’t know the restrictions of his power lock, because I am/was making stuff up as I got more asks.

I just never pictured him eating I guess. Just lounging around more or less? Since he isn’t just possessing the stuffed bunny, he’s stuck in it. And it doesn’t have a mouth or any digestive track, so why would he need to eat ya know? Or get tired or need to do any other bodily functions.

But I really do love everyone’s ideas and takes for this AU. There honestly isn’t any real canon, but there is my canon and I may like some ideas more than others. But if you want Danny to just absorb food(you’re idea is really funny btw), then that’s your canon! And I love it! It’s so cool and I love people interacting with my stuff and getting their own ideas-the joy of creation!

At the tail end of a long, grueling mission that had them run around half of Eastern Europe, Laswell had given Ghost and Soap three days of leave before they'd be flying back home. She'd even booked them a hotel in a tiny spa town for two nights. Yet even though they arrived early in the day, Soap was still exhausted enough from the mission to just let Ghost handle the check in.

Something was off, though, when Ghost returned to him. He could tell by the square set of his shoulders and the slight frown on his brows. Even without his usual balaclava, his hood and face mask hid most of Ghost's expressions from inexperienced viewers.

"Good news: Laswell's paying for two dinners each at the in house restaurant. It's supposedly very good," Ghost reported.

"And the bad news?"

Ghost subtly shifted his weight. "Only had rooms with double beds left."

"You mind sharing?" Soap raised his eyebrows.

"Nah. Thought you might."

"Nah. Let's get up to our room then. I'm right knackered from the trip."

Ghost rolled his eyes at the phrasing, but didn't comment on it. When Soap punched his shoulder to signal go time, he obediently followed to the elevator.

As forewarned, the room only had one bed. But at least it was the softest, most cloud like bed Soap'd ever had the pleasure of sitting on. He wanted to immediately lie down and never get up. First things first, though.

"Mind if I take the first shower?"

Ghost shrugged. "Feel free. Thought I'd have a look around town. Find the spa. Try the public fountains. Look at the local attractions. Tourist shite."

"Have fun. I'll cover home base while you're out on recon, then."

Ghost huffed out a small laugh as he turned to leave the room.

Soap hopped into the shower for a quick wash, dried himself off with extremely fluffy towels and then got himself comfortable in the bed. He'd planned on a quick nap, but when he woke up again, it was because someone had chucked a paper bag at his head. It smelled deliciously like baked goods.

"Got you lunch, Sleeping Beauty."

"I'd be so mad at you for waking me like that," Soap said as he sat up and bit into the bun that'd smacked him in the ear. "If this weren't so good."

"Up for an afternoon trying all the healing springs? The park is twenty minutes from here and has at least ten different fountains with different properties. Maybe one can cure stupid."

"Maybe one can cure being a dick."

"You'll never know."

They spent the afternoon together trying the water from every single fountain in the park. It had clearly been built sometime in the nineteenth century, Soap pointed out, citing the architecture and decorations. The water was various kinds of salty. More than half the fountains were claimed to have uranium in the water, a fact that led both Ghost and Soap to come up with more and more outrageous movie mutations caused by too much of the spa water. Dinner at the hotel's restaurant was fantastic. The chef didn't skimp on the fat, nor on the herbs and spices.

Soap had almost forgotten about the bed in their room by the time they got ready for bed. "I can still sleep on the floor, LT."

"Why?"

"Dunno." Soap shrugged. "Thought it might be weird to you."

"'s not." Ghost took off his boots, stripped down to his undershirt and briefs before he slipped under the covers. "Fuck. 's like a cloud in here."

Quickly, before either of them could change their mine, Soap undressed and got into bed as well. His hammering heart forced him to keep a fair distance between himself and Ghost.

"Figured you'd be a cuddler," Ghost mused.

"That an offer?"

"Mh." Under the covers, Ghost reached out to pull Soap closer to him. "Don't mind if it's you."

Soap swallowed. He let himself be pulled against Ghost, head resting on a broad chest, hand over a heart that was beating it's staccato rhythm in tandem with Soap's own.

"G'night, Simon," Soap whispered, not trusting his mouth to say more.

"Night, Johnny."

When he woke up the next morning with his Johnny sprawled out on top of him, with his breath hot against his bare neck, Ghost was immensely glad he'd convinced the hotel clerk to give them a room with a double bed. Even if it was just for one more night, he'd treasure this closeness for the rest of his life.

This felt like getting tucked into a comfy warm hotel bed of my very own <3 I hope everyone else enjoys this cloud bed as much as I do god BLESS

Tiger Zoro thoughts AGAIN lol but u know how they say that cats purring has healing properties? When anyone on the crew is feeling ill or even just upset, zoro pads up to them and curls around them and gets to purring. Always makes them feel better <3

i love this. i love this so much. his purring is STRONG, too, like a damn engine; and it helps that he can smell emotions, or at least the small hormonal changes in a person’s scent that tells him how they’re feeling. if they smell off they’re not feeling well either physically or mentally. so he bullies them into sitting at a comfortable spot and lays down around them, tucks them close to his side and starts purring and it helps.

surprisingly, the first person he does this with is usopp. the sharpshooter’s so frustrated about a project that just won’t cooperate and zoro can smell it so he corners usopp in the galley and the man squeaks, muttering a panicked okayokayokay under his breath as zoro crowds him to the wall and nudges at his knees until he sits down. he can feel how tense usopp is before he starts purring, but after a while the sharpshooter relaxes and curls up into a little ball with his knees to his chest. zoro flops his tail over usopp’s shoulder and they somehow both fall asleep.

it’s started to become sanji’s favourite way of falling asleep, too; whether zoro’s in tiger or human form, he likes to curl into zoro’s chest and hug one of his arms or paws and drift off with zoro’s purrs vibrating through him. zoro can smell the way the tension and stress of the day bleeds out of him and it’s soothing for both of them, honestly.
