here is an ask what's your favorite thing about your favorite book you've read recently?

oh i’m SO glad you asked. my current favourite read is def Baba Yaga Laid an Egg (you can listen to me reading a short section of it here), which was recced to me by jaga @letterful a million years ago and it is SO. GOOD.

fave part of it so far is definitely Beba my friend Beba... she’s so important. canonically autistic old woman with absolutely massive breasts (this is plot relevant). she has long intellectual conversations WITH HERSELF about the sexual symbolism in paintings of parrots between the eighteenth and twentieth century and then goes “whew. so exhausted that was too smart for me 🥵.” she wins six hundred thousand euro at a casino by accident because she got confused while seeking change for five hundred which is all the money she has in the world. her best friends are: a young Muslim boy she met Yesterday whose war trauma manifests as permanent priapism; an elegant thrice-widowed 6’3” human tower fan; and a wizened old retired gynaecologist who wears both legs in one (1) giant fur boot. the tower fan friend introduces her to a handsome american and Beba’s immediate response is “nice to see you! die.” yes she has speech aphasia and meant “bye” but i maintain that the sentiment here was real.
