just finished around 2/3 of volume 12, i love so much the entire dreamscape / real world mechanic and lore-wise, love the way purplebloods and their history is represented and currently romancing Lynera. i'm in love with this volume so far thank you all so much (and whoever had the idea of making TechniColor Heart an actual thing, i'd hug u)
That was me (game's director/lead writer here) - TechniColor Heart was actually in production for a few months. The April Fool's joke trailer was just a fake-out using footage from the actual game (within a game) - it's original inception goes back to the "we'll put sex in the game" meme we did on Twitter.
So I basically spent 3 months writing, coding, and doing UI design to put that in there. The assets are a combination of Friendsim 2 assets and backgrounds I did and sprites that Riotbreaker did for another game (it was cancelled in its original form and another studio may or may not be continuing it at some point, but without the original assets). I'm a big fan of committing to the bit - to the point where every one of the "hahaha wouldn't it be funny if we put this in the game?" jokes has not, in fact, been a joke.
Originally there was gonna be a shorter and less interesting dream sequence in that bit there that had a Tyzias/Tagora trial sequence (we actually had that sequence completely done with recorded dialogue) as well as some small walk-around segments using existing assets.
There were also a couple cut mini-games from Volume 12 - a sliding tile puzzle and a "light up the lights" type puzzle, neither of which was very fun - so those got replaced with Tetris and Fire Fling, respectively. (if you talk to Mallek about his GameDude console in the TechniColor Heart segment, you can actually play Gameboy versions of those games to practice them)
Overall, Volume 12 has probably been our most involved volume. One of the things I wanted to get right going into this game was how the purple bloods are portrayed, because there's a lot of baggage associated with how they're shown in canon, and I wanted to approach the whole thing thoughtfully and make it an impactful experience.
I cannot stress enough how important the contribution of the route's primary writer, Miranda Holliday, was to the experience of that route. They laid down the framework (and wrote most of the first half of the route) for a lot of the themes and how they tie into real-world issues of ethnicity, race, and culture. I picked up what they put down and then they went back over what I'd written in the second half to tighten up some of the language and provide feedback on the way the themes were developed.
Also, the route's sprite designer, Cole, was instrumental in fleshing out the character designs and giving them a unique character. Riotbreaker ended up doing the finished sprite sets off the original designs, and she did an awesome job of following Cole's reference designs.
Also, unique among the routes, we had the stark contrast between the dreamscape backgrounds (done by Dave Fowler) and the real-world backgrounds (done by Herk Lapaduza, who's done work on a couple other volumes both released and unreleased!). The dreamscape in particular was very much an exercise in "have fun with it!" to the artist, and the result was a delightfully surreal experience to contrast with the much more grounded style of the other backgrounds.
Lastly, our VAs for this route really helped sell their characters' unique personalities. Valentine was my choice to play Marvus from before we even started this game (there's an interesting story there - before FS2 was a thing I was going to do a fan dub of my Delightful Abattoir Hiveswap novel, so some of the voice cast comes from that!), and Miranda, Jason and Vyn did an amazing job with Akhnai, Barzum/Baizli, and Chahut.

I feel like I’m the only one on board w Austin being cast; it’s important to have someone who understands the satire of the book and doesn’t lean into the violence or view the character as genuine. He’s a captivating actor who’s capable of holding a film on his own, I fear Drew wouldn’t be at that stage yet (I say this because everyone thought Paul Mescal was ready for Gladiator 2 & he really really wasn’t, he’s not strong enough as an actor yet). Not only that, but with little screen time he had in Dune 2, he managed to be the character holding that film and was really the only interesting part; anyone who’s seen The Bikeriders knows he’s also capable of showcasing all these emotions without really even showing them (idk how to explain that but the people that get it will lol). None of us were in the audition room to say he deserves it or not at the end of the day, but I trust Luca and his casting team any day because he hasn’t proven us wrong with a choice ever. He sees what others don’t, hence why he’s a good director, and most people are the ones sat watching his films. Also find it funny that again people are saying “sick of seeing him” when he’s actually not been in that many things, alike to Drew, how do people expect actors to become movie stars again, or to get booked if they aren’t casted in things? It’s a lose lose situation where either you get criticised for being casted in everything and people want you to fail as an actor even though you’re good, or it’s that you get laughed at and told you’re a flop because you’re not getting casted in things. Nobody can win.
Let’s all just hold hands and be thankful it wasn’t fucking Jacob Elordi, because now he can’t act for shit and only gets cast because he’s tall and “hot”.
its so interesting when yall do this in my inbox bc im not fighting u on it

Come See Spelling Bee!
The annual spelling bee at Putnam Valley Middle School in Putnam County, NY is a fierce competition. In this hilarious, charming, and fast-paced musical, six spellers divulge their own intensity, quirks, and backstory.
Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk award for Best Book, this musical comedy based on C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, an original improvisation play created by Rebecca Feldman, touches on the pressure of competition, the roots of ambition, and how we are impacted by formative experiences from childhood.
Audiences are invited to join in the bee to experience the rush and anxiety of trying to avoid the dreaded “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Only one can be named champion.
Tickets Here.

Maya Gurung On Associate Choreographing Spelling Bee
By Abby Campion
Maya Gurung has a Harry Potter “Funko Pop!” collection. She’s also associate choreographing the upcoming Mainstage, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. A sophomore double-majoring in Economics and Theatre, Maya will be making her choreographing debut with Spelling Bee. Hardly a stranger to the theater department, or our newsletter, for that matter, Maya’s credits include directing a Cocktail; performing as OG Howland/Chief Tsauwait in the fall Mainstage production, Men On Boats; and acting in the first-year show. Before Spelling Bee, Maya organized hip-hop dances for herself and her friends and acted in her high school’s musicals. However, teaching dance to a larger group of people is an entirely brand-new venture.
When reflecting on her position, Maya acknowledges how being an associate choreographer is the perfect blend of directing and dancing. At rehearsal, Maya helps to choreograph certain parts of the dances, while providing notes and feedback to clean up some of the numbers. She collaborates with director Dustyn Martincich by offering her input whenever necessary. In terms of parts of the show that Maya has choreographed, such as sections of “Pandemonium,” she thoroughly considered how the characters’ bodies would match their emotions.
Tumblr media
Spelling Bee is an extremely fluid workspace, with all of its pieces adapting and changing until they finally fall into place. In the rehearsal process, Maya offers her ideas and suggestions for Dustyn’s visions on the production’s choreography as it gets closer and closer to the final product. Maya complimented director Dustyn, commending her investment in collaboration and her limitless creativity. Regarding their collaboration, Maya also applauds Dustyn’s eagerness to take into consideration her and Assistant Director Tessa Brizhik’s opinions. At the beginning of the Spelling Bee creative process, Maya appreciated Dustyn’s quintessential question, which was “What do you want to get out of this process?”. Dustyn’s commitment to supporting others in their artistic journeys is ever-appreciated, no less by the Spelling Bee cast.
Maya’s main approach to associate choreographing is truly “just trial-and-error.” When offered this opportunity, Maya figured she might as well just jump right into it. Throughout this process, Maya has been met with certain challenges that come with instructing one’s peers. She doesn’t view herself as an “authority figure”  by any means but rather agrees that it can be challenging to corral a vast group of people who are her age or older. “They’re so nice about it though! When they say ‘Thank you, Maya’ . . . . you know, it makes you feel good.”
Tumblr media
Pondering her favorite parts of the Spelling Bee process, Maya immediately gushes about the cast: “They’re just so fun to watch . . . they make different choices every single day.” Emphasizing senior Ryan Hill’s performance in “Magic Foot,” her favorite number, Maya notes how interesting it is to see each member of the cast find something new in the script to explore each and every day. If you’d like to see “Magic Foot,” and all of the other waney antics Spelling Bee has to offer, come see the show April 12-15!

From the Screen to her 82nd Birthday in a Jail Cell: Cassie Smith on Jane Fonda
To be completely honest, I had never heard of Jane Fonda before she came to Bucknell. Fonda was the final speaker of the “Freedom of Expression” series, an excellent fit for her. If you aren’t familiar with Jane Fonda, she gained fame from her acting career, but her most memorable moment comes from a photograph of her sitting on a North Vietnamese weapon during the Vietnam War, This gained her the infamous nickname “Hanoi Jane.”  My parents urged me to go, and my Tuesday night was free, so with the bare knowledge of a quick Google search I went to hear what she had to say.
Within a few minutes I leaned over to my friend and said, “I love her.” I think it was the way she was unapologetically herself, she didn’t try to answer the questions in a traditional or expected way, often going off on long stories or tangents. Her genuine nature shown through in the way she connected with the audience, even going as far as recognizing someone in the audience from her past and taking the time to have a short conversation with them. The majority of Fonda’s talk focused on her recent cause, environmental justice and combating the climate crisis, a relevant issue, important to many Bucknellians including me. Fonda’s message of never giving up and remaining optimistic resonated deeply, and the energy of the crowd reflected this. She was often interrupted with cheers and clapping when she said something especially impactful.
Tumblr media
As a theatre enthusiast, I was hoping to hear about Fonda’s experience and lessons from the television and movie scene. While her talk didn’t necessarily center around this like I selfishly hoped, there were golden nuggets of wisdom and humorous stories. She raved about the expression art allows the person, and the connection it creates between a human and the world around them. She encouraged aspiring performers to follow their passion and change the world with their art. She is a strong example of not becoming complacent in her position, using her art as a position to fight for positive change in the world, something that I think is very important and I strive to imitate. Overall, I think the biggest lesson I took from Jane Fonda is to keep persevering when you’re passionate about something even when it feels like the whole world is against you. Whether that means starting a petition for a cause you care about, continuing to audition for shows after rejection, or even risking spending your birthday in jail for a cause important to you.
Tumblr media
So next time you see a speaker at Bucknell you’ve never heard of, go listen to them. You will rarely regret it, and you may find yourself a new idol, like I did in Jane Fonda.

Okay! Here we go. I am going to regret this, probably, seeing as most people who post about this get hate. But I think it’s important that indigenous voices aren’t buried.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: DO NOT take this as an excuse to harass Ian Ousley or any of the other actors! This situation is bigger than one actor who may or may not even be aware of this and who was a minor when he auditioned for the part. Harassing actors for the choices of the studio is reprehensible and is never acceptable. PERIOD.
This also doesn’t mean you can’t watch or support the show. This is simply in the interest of dispelling misinformation surrounding this topic.
So let’s dive in.
Claim: Ian Ousley claims to be from a tribe called The Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky.
TRUE.
Ousley and his family members have posted about SCNK, and he even has close family members on the board.
Claim: Ousley’s acting resume claims he can play every ethnicity, with no regard for whether he is actually from those groups.
TRUE.
Seen here.
Tumblr media
Claim: Ousley’s tribe SCNK is only being picked on for being federally unrecognized.
FALSE.
Plenty of legitimate tribes are not recognized by the federal government. This is not the reason SCNK has been accused of being a fake tribe.
Claim: SCNK is recognized at the state level - making them legitimate!
FALSE.
Although the SCNK has claimed to be state recognized, this is not true. The state of Kentucky does not offer state recognition.
Here is a list of all state-recognized tribes in the United States. Kentucky is not even listed.
The SCNK’s false claims of state recognition is one of the reasons they’ve been accused of being illegitimate.
Claim: It’s only “Twitter detectives” making these claims, and therefore no one should take them seriously.
FALSE.
The allegations did not only come from the Twitter account 7GenVoices. Although this Twitter account—who claims to be run by multiple indigenous people—brought the controversy to wider attention, they are not the only ones to have made claims against the SCNK’s legitimacy.
In fact, every single federally recognized Cherokee Nation has been making these claims and raising the alarm since long before this particular casting controversy even existed.
Here is an article from The Cherokee Phoenix: the official newspaper of the Cherokee Nation.
Let’s look into the allegations within.
The Cherokee Phoenix Newspaper reports that Ian Ousley's tribe has been "decried as false by the three recognized Cherokee governments".
Ousley’s claimed membership is with the “Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky,” one of dozens of federally unacknowledged tribes decried as false by the three recognized Cherokee governments.
It is possible that the ATLA production took the word of Ousley’s management at face value, or was satisfied with membership claimed in a tribe not federally recognized. It also seems CN [Cherokee Nation] resources were not consulted.
This corroborates what 7GenVoices posted: that the Cherokee Nations were not consulted and that they did not have Ousley listed as a member.
Many offices within the CN can quickly verify whether a person has citizenship, and one department in particular can advise the entertainment industry.
…
“With the exception of the Cherokee Phoenix inquiring, the Cherokee Nation Film Office has not been contacted in regards to Mr. Ousley,” said Jennifer Loren, director of the CNFO and Original Content. “He is not registered with CNFO and is not included in any of our directories, which are readily available for citizens of any federally recognized tribe to enroll in.”
Claim: SCNK is a fake tribe made to siphon resources from indigenous people.
LET’S LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE.
So is the SCNK a fake tribe? What does that even mean?
Thank you to u/KelpieCat for their comprehensible and accessible breakdown, despite the hate they got on Reddit for their post. I will be drawing from this post because of how clearly they laid it out.
There are three federally recognised Cherokee tribes: the Cherokee Nation, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and the United Keetowah Band of Cherokee Indians.
Ian is not enrolled with any of these. Instead, he is a member of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky. The three recognized Cherokee governments have said that this group is fake .
What traits do these fake tribes have in common, and what damage do they do to Cherokee sovereignty? According to Travis Snell writing for the Cherokee Phoenix:
Sometimes people take illegal or unethical steps to form "tribes" and sell membership. Some claim treaty rights and seek state and federal recognition, while others take federal money intended for legitimate Indian nations. A group of Cherokee Nation employees and officials recently formed a task force to deal with these "wannabe" Cherokees.
There is in fact a task force that represents the Cherokee Nations and investigates “pretendians”: people who fake Cherokee heritage or tribal status.
And even though their task force has no official name, it does have an agenda.
Why is exposing fakers so important?
"It looks at protecting our sovereignty," Allen said. "We have so many individuals and groups who are using the Cherokee name and a lot of times it's in a manner that is very inappropriate. They scam people. They charge for genealogy. They charge for DNA tests that might suggest that people could be Indian. In essence, we are looking at groups that claim to be Cherokee but have no real status and who are just distorting the culture and history."
…
Wannabes scam people, schools and government officials, or come together to establish tribes seeking rights.
Even if someone has indigenous heritage, that doesn’t mean they’re automatically Cherokee. Indigenous people are not a monolith, and it’s wrong to take resources set aside to help Cherokee tribes.
"We don't deny that there are individuals out there who might have Indian heritage, but coming together as a group doesn't make them a tribe," Allen said. "They are creating an identity that is absolutely false." … "I don't think anyone (on the task force) has an objection to someone having a Cherokee heritage club and not trying to be a tribe or nation," Rhoades said. "A large part of our objection comes from when you pretend to be an Indian tribe or nation and lay claims to treaties you have no right to. That's just wrong."
So are fake tribes even a real problem? Yes.
Rhoades said there are more than 200 bogus Cherokee tribes. … Task force members said wannabe groups asking for federal recognition are the reasons why it takes so long for legitimate tribes to go through the recognition process.
The SCNK shows the hallmarks of the fake Cherokee tribes, such as:
Membership Fees
[Source]
Legitimate tribes do not charge you to remain a member of your own nation.
Cheesy Stereotypical Names
[Source]
Over-the-top stereotypical “Indian” names are considered a red flag.
Shady DNA Practices
The SCNK accept DNA test evidence as proof of Cherokee citizenship. Sounds foolproof, right?
Not so fast! It’s actually currently impossible for DNA evidence to link a person to a specific Native American tribe. And due to DNA testing companies having limited data on indigenous/Native American/Indian American people, they may even give a false positive OR false negative.
[Explanation here]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The SCNK themselves admit this but say:
"DNA test results cannot prove which Native Tribe you descend from, however, we will not discriminate against any positive Native American test result, and will promptly accept you as a Tribes-person so that you can join with us in our celebration and appreciation of our heritage."
In other words, it is not necessary to prove you are Cherokee at all to be given membership in this tribe as long as you take a DNA test and are willing to pay a membership fee. You can read more from Indigenous authors about how damaging it is to Cherokee sovereignty to use DNA tests for claims of Cherokee membership [here] and [here].
This means you may have zero Cherokee DNA, or even zero indigenous DNA and just get a blip of unrecognized DNA that gets lumped in as being indigenous, and the SCNK will accept you as Cherokee. Even if you have lived your whole life unaware, privileged, and with none of the disadvantages that the Cherokee people have had to live with, and the whole reason why resources are set aside to help them.
There are even shady companies that will give out questionable DNA results which legitimate DNA companies cannot corroborate.
SCNK doesn’t care. They will still label you as Cherokee as long as you pay.
They even outright state they will offer Cherokee membership to someone WITH ZERO INDIGENOUS DNA.
Tumblr media
That’s from their own website.
Don’t forget! These people survived genocide, systemic abuse, and continue to face poverty, violence, and injustice in the criminal justice system.
I’ll cover more in Part 2.
Yeah. We aren’t even DONE yet.
Can you make a post about the Ian Ousley/White Sokka controversy? I keep seeing contradictory information and you seem more informed.
Tumblr media
I may draft one later if there’s time this evening.

for the director’s commentary ask: can u talk about casting the les amis in your hamlet fic? I love that story so much and I’d love to hear how you decided who’d play what! (and any other thoughts on that gorgeous fic!)
oh EXCELLENT question thank you yes i did put a lot of thought into this
BE is an unusual fic in that enjolras is somewhat of an outsider to the hamlet gang, because i didn’t want to cast him as any of the characters. none of them worked for me. he’s not a hamlet, he’s too much of fire and action, and he could never be a horatio - a character much more suited to the pollux side of the coin.
grantaire, however, i loved as hamlet. the melancholy is there, which wouldn’t have suited any other character save perhaps éponine (who becomes director). so R is hamlet, E is on the outside but still Involved.
from there it felt natural to put cosette as ophelia, joly and bossuet as ros and guil. i made feuilly into horatio based on pure vibes and favoritism. the one bit of casting i was never fully happy with was montparnasse as laertes—it’s just not quite right—but i wanted him to be an antagonist and he’s too young for claudius.
some people aren’t in the show—notably courfeyrac, off in his own production—simply because i didn’t want it to feel like i was massively shoehorning characters in. like that one kpop tweet. you know?
Tumblr media
and because it felt more realistic to have adult friend groups that ranged across places and productions, even if they often get irrevocably tangled. it’s still maybe a bit convenient. but i like my choices

Congratulations on 500 followers!! Could you do nr 2 with Tom please <3
thankyou <33 im very in my feels abt friends to lover atm, so ik this is a completely unoriginal concept but here we are
warning: nothing much- maybe homesickness? (+ the fact tom has poor choice in popcorn )
^^^ sorry I couldn't not put this on here and I will reuse it lots n lots
/////////////////////////
“Right I got two options annnnddddd there is only one correct answer.” Tom hummed up at you, pulling his tired gaze away from the phone screen and up towards the kitchen where you were standing triumphantly - having just raided his cupboards. From behind your back you whipped out a bag of popcorn in each hand.
“Sweet…. or salty?” Sighing with a small chuckle Tom shook his head at your playfulness. He didn’t know how you did it but you always always made his smile.
“I’m not a psychopath…” You huffed in relief, already turning around to throw the salty back in the cupboard where it belonged. “So salty of course.”
You were trapped in a house with an absolute psychopath.
You scowled at him, for having such poor taste, expecting some sort of argument to start. That wasn’t the case though, instead he just stared at you expectantly.
He must really really be unhappy.
You’d sensed it on set that morning - it wasn’t hard to miss. Not when it was your best friend, who for the past two months you’d been spending at least 6 hours a day with whilst shooting. Even when you were supposed to have a day off, when Tom had some solo shots or vice versa, you’d still come to keep the other company. It didn’t make sense but you both just sort of liked it that way.
This wasn’t your first rodeo working together either. Your first joint project had been almost four years ago, when both of you were barely adults, still figuring everything out. Ever since it had been bumping into each other every so often, always with an easy and effortless relationship.
Your current director had noted your chemistry at an awards show (the man never switched off) and decided in that moment he HAD to cast you together for a project. And a year later, here you both were, shooting in Australia for what was set to be a record breaking new release.
And it had been going great - better than great even. But as soon as Tom had shown up to makeup this morning, you’d known something was up. It was fair to assume it was something from home, maybe even just a bit of homesickness, or perhaps something more severe. Either way, the situation was probably exacerbated by the fact he didn’t have his brother or bestfriend or manager or normal syltist with him right now. Tom was pretty renowned within the industry for always having a massive entourage - which was normally made up with his family and friends. This time though he was going it solo.
Today had been long and you’d had to do press at stupid oclock in the morning last night for your current release - which meant your plan had always been to leave promptly and collapse into bed as soon as physically possible.
But Tom needed your company. So you hadn’t. Instead, you’d somewhat subtly invited yourself to his rented house for a movie night - blaming it on your director wanting you both to study the relationship dynamics in ‘out of sight’ (a J Lo and Clooney romance movie).
“You think you know a person and then they loose all your respect… just like that.” You sigh jokingly, gesturing to the bag of ‘foul’ popcorn your costar seemed to like.
“Well we’ve come to a crossroads.”
“It’s been nice knowing you but this…” you scoffed and dramatically rolled your eyes “… I see no way out.”
“Isn’t it better if we have a bag each? Then I might manage to actually get some before you scoff them all.”
You yelped in protest, though really you were just grateful he was still up for a bit of a laugh. He had been much less jokey the whole day, though was seeming to warm up a bit.
Once you had poured the two bags of popcorn into two separate bowels and prepared the film on TV; you plopped yourself onto Tom’s sofa, so your back was against the corner and your feet were over his lap (it wasn’t weird, just normal for the two of you). Instinctively, Tom lightly grabbed your ankles, repositioning you on his thigh slightly before leaning across the pull the blanket over the both of you. Whilst he smoothed out the crinkles in the fluffy navy fabric you took the opportunity to poke your toe into his side - garnering his attention.
“I take it you don’t wanna talk about it?” After he froze, Tom then nodded jerkily. “But if you change your mind, you know I’m here right?” His demeanour changed at your second statement as his body literally sagged into the cushions, with a grateful if small smile.
He respond by mouthing an ‘I know’ and that was enough for you. Shuffling down the side a bit you pressed play, settling in for the evening. Tom still had a hand resting on your ankles, occasionally rubbing his thumb up and down the bony bit.
Honestly you didn’t really see what your director was going on about when he raved about their on screen chemistry and it seemed that neither did Tom. It wasn’t a scathing commentary that gave it away, instead it was his silence. Which you quickly realised was the he had drifted off, his head lolling a little so he was facing you, palms now completely lax on your legs. It was whilst you were just taking in the sight before you, that a buzzing cut through the otherwise soft noise from the TV - which you had turned down for Tom’s sake.
It wasn’t your phone but you instinctively still reached for it from the coffee table and seeing that the name just read “Harry H” you thought it’d be fine to answer.
“Harry?” You whispered into the receiver, slightly cupping your hand round your mouth just to make sure you weren’t too loud for Tom.
“Hello?”
“Harry it’s me”
“Who?” You’d met Harry countless times, though given the fact Tom had been alone all shoot - you shouldn’t of expected the kid to be able to recognise your voice.
“Oh sorry Y/n um Y/n L/n”
“Oh no my fault sorry Y/n. How are you?” The conversation was jilted, you could practically feel the awkward energy radiating all the way from the otherside of the world.
“I’m alright thanks, how about you.”
“Yeh not bad I uhm… I - is my brother there?” Oooh. How to answer that question.
“Um sort of, we er… we were having a movie night and he’s fallen asleep. It’s why I’m whispering like a weirdo.” Harry laughed at that and you continued. “Is everything okay? You need me to wake him?”
“No no, mum just said he was having a rough time so was going to cheer him up with my exquisite sense of humour but if you’ve bored him to death then no need.”
“What can I say I’m just talented. Anyway I should be heading back to mine anyway so um I’ll let you go?”
“Oh yeh no worries, and uhm thanks-um thanks for keeping an eye on him.”
“Someone has to” You chuckled softly back, before bidding a final farewell to Harry.
Having hung up the phone, you leaned over to gently place it back on the coffee table but making a mental note to put it on charge before you left. Your next job was to manoeuvre your legs away from him without disturbing him but before you could even start planning the movement, you noticed his weary eyes blinked over at you. Freezing, your mouth made a little ‘o’ shape as you winced at yourself for disrupting his peace - today really wasn’t the day for that. There was a silence as Tom swallowed thickly, attempting to shake off the heavy lull of rest before he spoke. “Will you stay with me… please.”
Undoubtedly, your body didn’t play it as cool as you wanted it to. Thinking you’d heard him wrong, your chin protruded forward and his eyes widened. “ Sorry not like-not like that just um-just on the sofa… theres-theres spare blankets and I can-“
“-course T, no worries…Oh and um your brother just phoned if you-“
“I know.” He spoke softly and with a nod, but didn’t move at all, apparently no interest in calling his brother back.
With a stammered nod, you stood up, finally removing your legs from his touch in order to nip to the loo. You splashed your face with water, ate some toothpaste ( better than not brushing your teeth at all) before going to collect Tom’s quilt off his bed. By the time you re-entered the living room, Tom hadn’t appeared to have moved at all. The hood of his purple jumped was still up, the blanket still only half covering him, the excess lying cold were you had been sitting. He laughed lightly at you trying to wrangle with the king size duvet and get it in without tripping over yourself or knocking anything over.
“You sure you don’t mind? I’m just being stupid and-“
“Honestly I’m too tired to walk back to mine so this is perfect.”
“You live across the road.”
“Thats like 50 steps too far.” You deadpanned back, as he raised his eyebrows and locked you direct eye contact - which you very stubbornly returned.
The both of you sat like that for a minute, Tom eventually gave up with a sigh as he motioned for you to lie back.
There wasn’t an issue at all with space. A listers rental homes were never lacking in space - the grey sofa was a U shape, with ample space for the both of you to lie down. Each of you took a respective corner, your legs meeting in the middle and gently brushing against each others.
“Thanks for babysitting me today by the way.”
“I wasn-“ You were about to deny it, except one look and Tom saw straight through you.
“Thankyou Y/n/n” Seeing there was no way out of receiving his thanks, you instead opted to just shut him up. Nudging his leg with yours and leaving it touching you murmured you last words of the evening - eyes already closed.
“Fuck off Holland, ‘m tryna sleep.”

so i am watching kinnporsche because of you and i want to watch more BLs now but there's so many i don't know where to start. which ones would you recommend? i trust your taste.
hello anon!
ah, thank you for trusting my taste lol, that might have been a mistake, but we'll see.
someone asked me for recs a little while back here, so you can check that out
but i'd like to add some i forgot or have watched since, and also, let you know what ones from that list are my ultimate faves
so!
i forgot to add history 3: trapped - mafia man & cop fall for each other. this is a fun one. it has the whole crime intrigue aspect, so if you like kp, you'll like this one i think.
y destiny - but i only really care about episodes 9 & 10, which is puth & kaeng's story. so good.
also, i have since watched:
blueming - soft and emotional and beautiful. very underrated bl.
3 will be free - this is a different one. so, again it has crime elements, and intrigued and is a pretty exciting watch, aaand, it features a polyamourous realtionship, which i have never known another bl or drama to do. so, yeah, good watch.
mr unlucky has no choice but to kiss - i haven't finished it yet actually, but it's very sweet, very funny, and like most japanese bl's, a very feel good watch.
also, literally just started watching yesterday- old fashioned cupcake - another japanese bl that's pretty short, but really good! it's totally snuck under the radar, what with everyone's kp brainrot.
now, my ultimate fave are:
kinnporsche - i mean......we been knew. i'm not gonna go into detail about why i love it, because, i'm currently here doing it everyday but yeah.......it's solidified its spot as one of my ults.
not me - not me is so special to me, i will never get over it. kinda can't really be classed a bl, more of an lgbt+ drama. bl's follow a certain formula, and that's not not me. it's about, love, found family, strength in numbers strength in community, fighting for your rights, exposing corruption, direct action! mwah! not me is just, so good.
the untamed - again. so so so special to me. this show lives on my heart forever now. it's a chinese drama, so it's not explicitly a bl, and it's incredibly long (50 episodes!) but anon, trust me, it will take you on an absolutely heart-wrenchjng journey. you will experience the full spectrum of emotion watching this show. and the writers, cast, directors, everyone, did an amazing job portraying the love and devotion of the main couple that's not a couple (in case you don't know, china has censorship laws that prohibits lgbt+ content to be shown in tv dramas). an ult fave indeed.
we best love - oh man. oh maaaannnnn, we best love is so good. i rewatch it every now and then and it hits every time. the acting..........top notch omg. everyone is so good, but the main actors are superb. it's soft, it's sweet, it's a coming of age story, but then it all changes, and it's about heartbreak, and healing. there are two seasons of this show, but i wish there were 30.
itsay - itsay (i told sunset about you) is just? iconic. a lot of people don't even really class it as a bl? same with not me actually. it's more of a coming of age drama, and god, it's just beautiful in every way. another one that will take on a journey of emotions. i always feel so wrung out after an itsay rewatch. itsay is a work art actually.
why r u? - controversial choice. not everyone liked this show, but, i can't help but get in my feelings about it. i think it was the first bl i properly watched and got sucked into. the chemistry between the main couple is amazing. in fact, that could be said for all my faves. it really is the key component to a decent bl.
i don't think i've forgotten any obvious ones.......
there are a few others, but, it's more about certain couples or, aspects of the show that are my fave, as a opposed to the show as a whole. and they'll be in the other list i linked above soooo?
enjoy?
let me know if you watch any, and what you think of them ♡♡

Daniel LaRusso: A Queer Feminine Fairytale Analysis Part 1 of 3
Disclaimers and trigger warnings:
1. These fairytales are European, although there’s often overlap in themes globally. I know European fairytales better, which is essentially the reason I’m not going to branch out too far. I opted to also stick to Western movies so as not to narrow things down, but also in particular “waves hand towards all of Ghibli” amongst many others. There’s a reason the guys in Ghibli are so gender.
2. TW for discussions of rape culture and rape fantasies
EDIT: FUCK I’M A GOBLIN CHILD! FORGOT TO PUT A MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU TO @mimsyaf WHO HAS BEEN THE NICEST, KINDEST EDITOR ON THESE THOUGHTS AND CONTRIBUTED SO MUCH TO THEM AND GENERALLY IS A WONDERFUL PERSON!
Part 2
Part 3
1. Introduction
I recently wrote a little thing, which was about Daniel as a fairytale protagonist – specifically one that goes through some of the kinds of transformations that are often associated with female protagonists of fairytales.
I used quotes from Red Riding Hood, Labyrinth, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and Dracula, which, as an aside – the overlap between fairytales, horror, and fantasy and the ways each of those genres delve into very deep, basic questions of humanity and the world is something that will always make me feral. I will be generally sticking with fairytales though. Also I am very excited about some of those Labyrinth concepts going around!
I’m going to use “feminine” and “masculine” in both gendered (as in relating specifically to people) and non-gendered (as in relating to codes) ways throughout this, depending on context.
To be binary for a moment, because sample-sizes of other genders are low, women are usually able to fall into either feminine or masculine arcs, although sometimes the masculine-coded woman can become a “not like the other girls” stereotype and the feminine-coded woman a shallow cliché – in both cases they’re also under more scrutiny and judgement, so it’s always worth asking “is this character not working for me because of the writing or because I have ingrained biases? (Both?)”
Men don’t often get feminine-coded arcs. Because. Probably a mix of biases and bigotry. But there are some that seem to have slipped beneath the shuttered fence of “Sufficient Narrative Testosterone,” and Daniel LaRusso is one of them.
2. Some Dude Comparisons (Men Doing Manly Action-Hero Things like being trans symbolism and loving your girlfriend… seriously those things are hella manly, I wish we saw more of that onscreen…)
a. Neo
Much like Neo The Matrix, whose journey is filled with transgender subtext and specifically and repeatedly references Alice In Wonderland, Daniel doesn’t go through quite the kind of hero's journey usually associated with Yer Standard Male Hero, especially the type found in the 80s/90s.
Neo is my favourite comparison, because of the purposefulness of his journey as a trans narrative and the use of Alice. But I’m sure there are other non-traditional male heroes out there (but are they trans tho? Please tell me, I want trans action heroes).
Neo “passes” as a socially acceptable man, but online goes by a different name - the name he prefers to be known by - feels like there’s something inherently wrong about the world around him and his body’s place in that society, and then gets taken down the rabbit hole (with his consent, although without really “knowing” what he’s consenting to) to discover that it’s the world that’s wrong - not him. And by accessing this truth he can literally make his body do and become whatever he wants it to.
Yay. (The message of the Matrix is actually that trans people can fly).
Neo is – kind of like Daniel – a strange character for Very Cis Straight Guys to imprint on. He spends most of the first movie unsure about what’s going on, out of his depth, and often getting beaten up. He is compared to Alice several times and at the end he dies. He loses. He has to be woken up with true love’s kiss, in a fun little Sleeping Beauty/Snow White twist. Yes, after that he can fly, but before that he’s getting dead-named and hate-crimed by The Most Obvious Stand-In For Normativity, Agent Smith, and being carried by people far more physically capable than he is (people who also fall outside of normative existence).
Tumblr media
Trinity and Neo in The Matrix. The fact that a lot of the time neither of them is gendered is something. Literally brought to life by true love’s kiss.
I’m not about to argue that Daniel LaRusso is purposefully written along these same thought processes, so much as the luck of the way he was written, cast, directed, acted, and costumed all came together in the right way. And this is even more obvious when compared to That Other Underdog Fite Movie That Was By The Same Director as Karate Kid.
b. Rocky
The interesting thing about Rocky is that he is (despite being a male action icon) also not written as a Traditionally Masculine person. Large portions of Rocky – and subsequent Rocky films – are his fear and insecurity about fighting vs his inability to apply his skills to another piece of work and wanting to do right by his girlfriend (and future wife), Adrian. The fighting is most often pushed onto him against his will.
Much like in Karate Kid there is barely any fighting in Rocky I. Most of it is dedicated to how much Rocky loves Adrian and the two of them getting together. The fight is – again like in Karate Kid – a necessary violence, rather than a glorified one (within the plot, obviously watching any movie like this is also partly about the badassness of some element of the violence – whether stamina or the crane kick, it’s all about not backing down against a more powerful opponent).
Rocky is played by Sylvester Stallone. He’s tough, he’s already a fighter (albeit in the movie not a great one yet), he’s taking the fight for cash – so although he’s also soft-spoken and sweet, you’re aware of the fact that he’s got those traits that’d make a male audience go “Hell Yeah, A Man,” or whatever it is a male audience does watching movies like that… cis straight men imprinting on oiled muscle men sure is a strange phenomenon, why do you wanna watch a boxing match? So you can watch toned guys groaning and grappling with each other? Because you want to feel like A Man by allowing yourself to touch the skin of other men?
Tumblr media
Apollo and Rocky in Rocky III. This sequence also includes prolonged shots of their crotches as they run. Sylvester Stallone directed this. This was intentional. Bros.
Daniel LaRusso is not built like that. But that doesn’t really have to matter. Being smallish and probably more likely to be described as “pretty” than handsome, and not having a toxic masculine bone in his body does not a feminine archetype make. It just makes a compelling (and pretty) underdog.
c. Daniel
So where does the main difference really lie? Between Rocky and Daniel? Well, Rocky has the plot in his hands – Daniel, largely, does not. Rocky is acting. Daniel is reacting or being pushed into situations by others. Just like our boy Neo. Just like Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Snow White – just like some of the women in some contemporary(ish) fairytale films like Buttercup (Princess Bride), Dorothy (Wizard of Oz), or Sarah (Labyrinth).
This isn’t a necessary negative about stories about girls and women, so much as looking at what it is girls and women in fairytales have/don’t have, what they want, and how they’re going to get it. It’s about power (lack of), sexuality (repressed, then liberated), men, and crossing some taboo lines. It’s also about queerness.
3. The Karate Kid Part One: Leaving Home
Daniel LaRusso is a poor, skinny, shortish kid (played by a skinny, shortish twenty-two-year old) who doesn’t fit in after having been taken away from the home he was familiar with against his will. Not every male protagonist in a fairytale leaves of his own will, and not every female protagonist leaves under duress – Red Riding Hood, for example, seems perfectly happy to enter the forest. However generally a hero is “striking out to make his fortune,” and generally a heroine is fleeing or making a bargain or being married off or waiting for help to arrive. She is often stuck (and even Red Riding Hood requires saving at some point).
Daniel then encounters a beautiful, lovely girl on the beach, puts on a red hoodie (red is significant), is beaten up by a large, attractive bully, loses what little clout he may have had with his new friends, and generally has a mostly miserable time until he befriends and is saved by Mr Miyagi. To do a little Cinderella comparison: Miyagi is the fairy godmother who pushes Daniel to go to the ball in disguise as well, and that disguise falls to pieces as he’s running away.
Then Daniel asks for help, Miyagi gets him enrolled in a Karate Tournament, and starts teaching him. Daniel wins the tournament and gets the girl, the end.
While Daniel has chutzpah and is a wonderful character, none of the big events are initiated by him, except for the initial going to the forest/beach (and within all of these events Daniel absolutely makes choices – I’m not saying he’s passive): Lucille takes them to California, Miyagi pushes him to go to the dance, Miyagi again decides to enroll him in the tournament and trains him, and only because Kreese doesn’t allow for any other option, Ali is the one who more often than not approaches Daniel, and even their first encounter is pushed by Daniel’s friends.
Tumblr media
Daniel really is at a dance/ball in disguise and receives a flower from a girl who recognises him through said disguise, it’s unbearable! It’s adorable! I get it Ali, I fucking get it!
Daniel’s main journey within this – apart from not getting killed by karate thugs (love u Johnny <3) and kissing Ali – is to learn from Miyagi. He’s not necessarily a full-on feminine fairytale archetype at this point, although there are fun things to pull out of it, mainly in the context of later films and Cobra Kai: the subtext of karate and how that builds throughout all the stories, the red clothes, the themes of obsession, his being targeted by boys whose masculinity is more than a little bit toxic and based on shame… more on all that coming up.
He doesn’t technically get a home until they build him a room at Miyagi’s place, but he definitely leaves the woods at the end of this one, trophy lifted in the air after being handed to him by a tearful Johnny and all.
And then they made a sequel.
4. The Karate Kid Part Two: Not Out Of The Woods Yet
Daniel’s won the competition, Kreese chokes out Johnny for daring to lose and cry, more life-lessons are given (for man without forgiveness in heart…) and Daniel and Ali break-up off-screen, confirming that TKK1 was not really about the girl after all, which, despite Daniel and Kumiko having wonderful chemistry, is also an ongoing theme. Daniel enters the screen in The Most Baby-Blue Outfit seen since Tiana’s dress in Princess and the Frog? Or that dress in Enchanted? Maybe Cinderella’s (technically silver, but later depicted as blue)?
(Sidenote: At everyone who says Sam ought to wear a callback to that suit,  you are correct and sexy).
Surprise, Miyagi’s building him a room.
Double-surprise, Miyagi needs to go to Okinawa.
Triple surprise, Daniel reveals he’s going with him, because he’s his son dammit.
The Karate Kid Part Two is maybe the least Daniel-LaRusso-Feminine-Fairytale-Protagonist of the three, because it’s not really his movie. Daniel runs around with Kumiko (aka the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen), continues to be The Best Non-Toxic Boy a middle-aged Okinawan karate master could ask for, lands himself another Built Karate Rival (twice is just a coincidence, right? Right?), and eventually doesn’t die while wearing red again – twice: When Chozen almost strangles him to death at the Miyagi dojo and then during the final fight. The Saving Of The Girl (both the little girl in the storm and Kumiko) actually puts him in a more traditional masculine space than the previous movie did, even if the main theme of the film is about compassion and kindness and by the end, once more the boy whose masculinity is built on rockhard abs and matchsticks is on his knees. Daniel just has that power over big boys. It’s called kick/punch them in the face hard enough that they see stars.
There’s an aside to be made here about how much Daniel really is an observer in other peoples stories in this, although he is the factor that sends both Chozen and Kumiko into completely different directions in life (Chozen and Kumiko main characters when?) Anyway he comes out of it presumably okay, despite being almost killed. Maybe a few therapy sessions and he’ll get over it. Too bad Terry Silver is lurking around the corner…
5. The Karate Kid Part Three: The Big Bad Wolf
Alright people have written Words about the third movie. It’s fascinating. It’s odd. It’s eye-straining. It’s like olives – you’re either fully onboard the madness or it’s too off-putting for you (or you’re like. Eh, don’t see what all the fuss is about either way...). It’s basically a non-consensual secret BDSM relationship between a guy in his thirties (played by a Very Tall twenty-seven year old Thomas Ian Griffith) and a 17/18 year old (played by a shorter twenty-eight year old Ralph Macchio).
Also recently we got more information on Mr. Griffith’s input on the uh… vibes of the film. Apparently it wasn’t just The Sweetness of Ralph Macchio’s face, the screenplay (whatever that amounted to in the first place – release the script!), the soundtrack, the direction to not tone it down under any circumstances, the fact that Macchio categorically refused to play a romance between himself and an actress who was sixteen, no: it was also TIG coming up with fun ways to torture Daniel’s character and suggesting these to the director. Clearly everyone has fun hurting Mr Macchio (including Mr Macchio).
The point is that aaallll of that amounts to that Intense Homoerotic Dubiously-Consented-To D/s subtext that haunts the movie and gives a lot of fun stuff to play with. It’s also a film that – if we’re analysing Daniel along feminine-coded fairytale lines recontextualises his role in this universe.
The Fairytale goes topsy-turvy. Through the looking glass. Enter Big Bad Wolf stage right. Karate is a metaphor for Daniel’s bisexual awakening.
“Oh, when will an attractive man touch me in ways that aren’t about hurting me?” he asks after two movies of being hurt by boys with rippling muscles. “Why do men continue to notice me only to hit me? Do you think wearing red is making me too noticeable? Anyway, Mr Silver looked really good in his gi today.”
Daniel’s diary must be a trip.

Alex in Wonderland (Mankai Stage Spring 2019 translation)
translation for the stage version of spring’s second play! song can be found in full here
i’m including a little bit of spoken lines before the song starts because...yeah. it’s technically still part of the thing. but u just won’t get to hear it and i’m sorry for that.
cast list Usui Masumi (Makishima Hikaru) as Alex Chigasaki Itaru (Tateishi Toshiki) as Mad Hatter, Professor Minagi Tsuzuru (Maekawa Yuuki) as White Rabbit, Usaka Sakuma Sakuya (Yokota Ryugi) as Cheshire Cat, Nekota Citron (Furuya Yamato) as King of Hearts, Shintani (i’m not sure this is actually his name i can’t hear very well and i don’t have the script sdjfndjsh if anyone knows lmk!!)
[bell chimes]
Shintani: A~h. They’re late.
Nekota: Hey!
Usaka: Sorry to keep you waiting!
(all three of them like, fist bumping and going EYYYY at each other. yeah)
Usaka: So something really funny happened at my club today--
Nekota: Oh, if it isn’t Alex! Good morning--
Alex: (walks past them)
Nekota: Eh, he’s totally ignoring us? Don’t you recognise us? It’s Nekota, Usaka, and Shintani!
Shintani: We’re in the same class so...let’s be friends! (holds out his hand for a fist bump c’mon alex don’t leave him hanging like that)
Alex: No thanks, I’m not interested. (sits down to read his book)
Usaka: Man, he’s sour. What’s he even coming to school for?
Shintani: (puts his hand down with the most hurt look on his face i’m so sad)
Nekota: Nah, it’s fine, right? Everyone’s different! But anyway-- (nekota and usaka exit)
Shintani: (running after them) What is it~?
Professor: Now, are you sitting here reading on your own again? Why don’t you act a little more like a college student and go have fun with your friends?
Alex: That would be a waste of my time. Books give me knowledge, meanwhile all they can give me are pointless conversations and boredom.
Professor: Though you might hate humans, you like animals, do you not?
Alex: For the most part, yes, but...that’s because they’re fluffy. Fluffiness can heal people, it’s not pointless at all.
Professor: Do you really hate useless things so much?
Alex: Of course. I didn’t come to university to waste time being unproductive.
Professor: Hmm. Productivity, you say. ...Alex, say there is a treasure of gold that only your friends can see, but is invisible to you. What could it be?
Alex: If we think about it logically, Professor, a situation like that could never exist in reality. Therefore, the only conclusion is that it is a dream. Please stop with the pointless questions.
Professor: Alex, what you have in intelligence, you lack in imagination. Here, try drinking this. (SIR DON’T OFFER YOUR STUDENT ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES. SIR.)
Alex: And this is?
Professor: Plain black tea. Perhaps it’ll help loosen up your rigid way of thinking.
Alex: I doubt it, but I’ll take your word for it. I know you won’t let me leave til I drink it, anyway...
Professor: You’re a tough one, as usual.
(alex drinks the tea and stuff starts to get funky! from this point onward is the actual song)
White Rabbit: Oh dear, I’m late! You, get out of my way!
Alex: What’s with the ears? You’re in college, but you’re still dressing up like that?
White Rabbit: Enough of that, just let me through. It’ll all be over for me if I’m late!
(commotion ensues as white rabbit tries to carry alex out of the way, and throws him down to wonderland)
Alex: Ah---!
White Rabbit: I’m going to be terribly late!
Professor: Now, Alex. It’s time to search for that golden treasure!
(i’m not typing this all out it’s the same lalala as in wonderland a go go dnfjsdhsd)
Cheshire Cat That’s my favourite napping spot Get out of the way! Go away!
Alex: What are you--?! Where am I...
Cheshire Cat I’m Cheshire and this is Wonderland!
Alex: Wonderland, you say? That’s absurd! Even making me put on this kind of costume...
Alex I need to return to my own world Have you seen someone with white rabbit ears?
Cheshire Cat If you mean White Rabbit, he’s seeing the King
Alex Take me there, he’s the one who brought me here
Cheshire Cat You’re one to demand something of me! Well, it’s fine~! This fellow and the King should be fun to see
[spring telepathy time part 1] Sakuya: (Isn’t this amazing, Masumi-kun? It’s only the first show, but we’ve already settled down like this!)
Masumi: (You seem like you’re enjoying yourself, as usual.)
Sakuya: (Yeah! Maybe it isn’t enough for me to just be doing that, but...this really is fun!)
(more funny stuff where they’re thinking while still acting as the character bc...sakuya is talking as himself here, but    walking on all fours as cheshire. and masumi is responding to him perfectly normally. it’s hilarious.)
Cheshire Cat: Follow me.
Masumi: (That’s fine...I think you’re fine that way.)
-
King of Hearts: The court has decided, the White Rabbit will be put to death.
White Rabbit: Please wait. I was only late by three seconds!
King of Hearts: For the crime of stealing away my time, White Rabbit is sentenced to death. Off with his head!
Alex: Wait. Don’t just murder that rabbit!
King of Hearts: What is it to you? Are you a friend of his?
Alex: No. But I need him around.
King of Hearts: Then you can take his place.
Alex: Eh?
King of Hearts: We’ll have another trial by croquet just for this. Now, the preparations for the trial!
-
Alex: Hold on. This is a flamingo and a hedgehog.
King of Hearts: And what of it?
Alex: I can’t do this...not to these cute little babies...
King of Hearts: Then you have chosen death. Off with his head!
[spring telepathy time part 2] Citron: (I’m saying the lines properly. I’m getting better at Japanese!)
Masumi: (If you’re going to act onstage, that’s only to be expected.)
Citron: (I hate kings, but I like this role. I’ll move upstage more like you said, Masumi!)
Masumi: (Good. We’ll get along better if you’re not forcing it.) (you all need to know that this entire time he’s just holding the flamingo and hedgehog plushies to his chest like little baby. son.)
-
White Rabbit: Ah--! I guess I don’t have a choice, do I?
King of Hearts(??? i think): What are you--
White Rabbit: Take that! (he smacks the cards. it’s cute.) Let’s go. This is thanks for you saving me. That way, I don’t owe you anything!
King of Hearts: What do you think you’re doing! Seize them!
-
White Rabbit: Whew, we finally shook them off...
Alex: Tell me how to get back to the surface.
White Rabbit: No idea.
Alex: Huh?
Cheshire Cat: My, my, looks like you finally found White Rabbit~
Alex: And yet I haven’t achieved my goal. I want to return to the surface.
Cheshire Cat: Then you should go ask the Hatter.
-
Alex: Professor?!
White Rabbit: This guy wants to go back to...his own world, he says.
Alex: If I drink that tea again, I should be able to return home! Mad Hatter: Now, I’ve never heard of anything like that. Isn’t that right? (directed at the audience) What do you all think we should do with this young man? Hmm, I see! Alex: ...who have you been talking to. Mad Hatter: Reality is not limited to what you can see. There are those in this world who sink a lot of money into things that cannot be seen. Like, say, items in a game.
Alex: I’m getting a headache...
[spring telepathy time part 3] Masumi: Don’t do weird adlibs like that.
Itaru: I told you, let’s just do things our own way. Besides, you look like you’re having fun too. Is that for the director?
Masumi: Of course. But today, it’s not just that. Acting...is fun.
Itaru: Hmm~? What was that?
Masumi: Shut up!
-
Mad Hatter Then I shall tell you! The world is always the world that you are in!
Alex: Huh?
Mad Hatter You are me, and he is you, and I am he
Alex: Enough of the Zen questions and answers! Just send me back to the world I came from!
Mad Hatter The only one who can rescue you from what you’re telling me is yourself.
-
King of Hearts: Found you!
Alex: What are you doing here?!
Mad Hatter: You ask why, well, that’s the King’s seat.
King of Hearts: Off with his head!
Alex: Wait! I don’t want to die here!
King of Hearts: Then you should ask one of your friends. If the White Rabbit will take his place, then Alex will live.
White Rabbit: I don’t owe him anything anymore. In the first place, we aren’t even friends.
King of Hearts: And you?
Mad Hatter: You must be joking. I have no need for friends.
King of Hearts: And you?
Cheshire Cat: Isn’t having friends pointless?
Alex: Haha...we’d get along. I feel the same way.
Alex: ...get along...? You are me...he is you...I am he...could it be that this world is my subconscious? How absurd!
King of Hearts: For the crime of having no friends, you are sentenced to death!
Alex: You’re only being so aggressive because you do want friends, don’t you?
King of Hearts: Huh? Just who do you think you’re talking to?!
Alex: You’re lonely. So you push everyone away to protect yourself.
King of Hearts: How do you know that?
Alex: ...because I’m the same.
King of Hearts: What...?
Alex: So...if you’ll have me...can we be friends?
King of Hearts: Friends...with me?!
Alex: I don’t know what it’s like to have friends, so I was afraid of having anything to do with anyone. You’re the same, aren’t you? But since we’re each other’s first friends, even if we’re both awkward, we’ll be able to forgive each other.
[spring telepathy part 4] Masumi: Tsuzuru, this is just what’s in the script and not my own words.
Tsuzuru: But you’re acting it out even better than I expected!
Masumi: Of course I am. For Director’s sake...and because I’m an actor.
Tsuzuru: They’re lines I don’t think you’d be able to say if you didn’t really think them, Masumi.
-
King of Hearts: Let’s...let’s be friends!
Alex: I also want you to stop doing terrible things to animals.
King of Hearts: I will. An official decree! Free all the animals, and all of the prisoners. Ten days of consecutive holidays for all the land!
White Rabbit: My dream vacation?!
Alex: He’s way too happy about this...
King of Hearts: Now, everyone! A party for the whole country, and a toast to my friend, Alex!
Everyone: Yay!!
the lalalas from wonderland a-go go
King of Hearts: Let’s carry Alex into the air!
Everyone: Yay! Heave-ho!
-
this is like, the part where it’s just alex and hatter for a bit and everyone goes away. like a dream. woooo.
Professor: Good morning. How are you feeling?
Alex: Awful. Like I just wasted a bunch of time.
Professor: That’s the answer to my earlier question. That which only you cannot see, is the treasure of spare time.
-
[i’ve lost count of the spring telepathy times] Itaru: So, do you get it? What it means to be an adult.
Masumi: Yes, with you as a cautionary tale.
-
Professor: Was it a bad dream?
Alex: I didn’t...hate it.
Professor: My! How honest.
Alex: I just don’t want any more of that tea.
-
Masumi: I won’t grow up to be like you.
Itaru: Well, if you’ve ever got any worries, you can come talk to me.
Masumi: No thanks. I’ve had enough of arcades.
Itaru: Come on, it’s the last scene.
Masumi: Don’t you tell me what to do. Let’s go.
-
Alex We are alone, but
Hatter We are not alone
Alex and Hatter If you close your eyes, Everyone will always be there smiling in your heart
Alex There, in Wonderland
Hatter (in Wonderland)
Alex I found
Alex and Hatter An important key
All Now unlock your dreams and your heart It’s a fantasy!
(and as always, they go into the actual song here. tl from the wiki, as usual.)
Alex Since I've fallen into this Wonderland, Why don't you and I go on a journey together?
Hatter Although this world is filled with uncertainty, As long as
Alex I'm with you
Alex and Hatter It seems like we'll be just fine.
Alex and Hatter Since we've fallen into this Wonderland, Why don't you and I go on a journey together? Although this world is filled with uncertainty, As long as I'm with you It seems like we'll be just fine As long as I'm with with you, it seems like we'll be just fine

Two topics. I found Texts & Turnabouts and read it one go and I'm like either mushy or laughing. Thank you for the recommendation! As for the second topic, I saw your comment about Steel Samurai headcanons. If I may ask, would you share some of them? I love stories in stories.
You’re super welcome, and yes, my reactions exactly, it’s such a good read!
As for my Steel Samurai stuff, I remain in awe over how excited people are to hear about it, but am also happy to share! Here’s what I have on-hand at the moment (I need to go through Saturation again and add a few things to it >_>U):
Steel Samurai: ran for seven seasons, Power’s trial happened during what was meant to be the filming of the 8th (2008-2016) (This bit is very much non-canon, it only has the one season in-universe if I’ve got my facts straight, but I wanted to have the space a longer-running series would give me to play with!)
Pink Princess sequel series (2016-17)
Season 3 of the show     mixed things up a bit by moving the location around every few episodes as     the Steel Samurai and Pink Princess pursed the Evil Magistrate across Neo     Olde Japan. This was the season that revealed that other cities beyond Neo     Olde Tokyo have their own defenders, including the Silver Swordsman,     protector of Neo Olde Osaka (only around for a few episodes, he’s a fan     favorite and returned as a reoccurring background character in season 7).
In season 6 the series began to explore some of the more mystical/spiritual elements of the Neo Olde world, a topic previously touched on only lightly in the show and mostly explored in supplementary material, including source books and novelizations/graphic novelizations
There are multiple ‘Samurai paths’ within the series, similar to how there are different styles of kung fu, these ones based upon the Asian elements of Earth, Wood, Fire, Water, and Metal.
The Steel Samurai follows the Metal path, naturally
The Pink Princess follows the Wood path, which is slightly more mystical (and also has flashier special effects)
While the Steel Samurai and Pink Princess both have non-powered forms, due to Will Powers’s reluctance to show his face on camera, the Steel Samurai’s face has never been revealed in any format - it is always cast in shadow or off-frame or somehow obscured
There are so many fan theories around this - most people are unaware of Will’s stance on the issue
Due to preferring not to show his face, it’s actually almost impossible to get an autograph off of Will Powers simply because he doesn’t really go to conventions or signing     sessions and stuff - you basically have to luck out and run into him in person and be carrying something he can sign
The Pink Princess’s non-powered form is actually bald. This was not part of her original character design, but, a few weeks before they were set to begin filming, a friend of the actress playing Pink Princess began chemo, and the actress shaved her head out of solidarity and support, didn’t even warn anyone, just feckin’ risked her job and shaved it. She figured she’d either get fired or have to wear a wig.
In a shocking twist, instead of doing either, the director just decided to roll with it, they reworked her costume design a bit, and it’s become one of the Pink Princess’s signature characterizations that she is bald by choice.
There are ninjas in the Steel Samurai world, they mostly don’t get along with the samurai
Samurai in this series will work with mystics, priestesses, and the like, but tend to be a bit suspicious of mystical arts outside those included in the Samurai paths
While the original show is live-action, there have been both a cartoon and an anime remake, each putting a slightly different spin on various events and characters
In a wild twist, they came out the same year. The fans went insane.
And that’s the baseline set of headcanons I run with when doing Steel Samurai stuff!
Thanks for the ask!

I'm just gonna take a moment after finishing the "last" episode (I may or may not be in denial and I've always said hope is undiscovered disappointment buuuuut), to gush about Wynonna Earp.
It's March of 2017, I just left California to move to Austin Texas with my mom and older brother. She had to sell our home and I couldn't afford to stay in cali alone at the time. We were living in a resident inn for about a month and then drove 17hrs to Texas. There we were in another hotel. I was currently looking for work, feeling lost (I had just graduated college and realized Wtf did I get this degree for), and unsure if I had made the right choice but wanting to stay with my family.
I was bored so I hopped on Netflix. Hoping to find something to watch to distract me from the sudden course my life had taken. And I stumbled upon a show called Wynonna Earp. I had vaguely heard of Wyatt Earp, but I was intrigued by the description. So I watched the first episode. And I was immediately hooked. Which is rare for a show on the first episode to accomplish. The writing was just... Soooo damn good and unlike shows I had ever watched before. I wound up binging the entire first season (the only one on Netflix at the time I believe) and needed more. Wanted more. So like the great researcher I am, I Googled it n saw there was not only gonna be another season but that it was a Canadian show. And I was shocked because man, no wonder why I hadn't I heard of it! It was soo good I was wondering why it wasn't being more advertised here in the US ( I've come to find foreign shows are some of the best shows as well, check out Wanted on Netflix. Australian show, no queer activity and lacks the baiting as well imo, I'm looking st you supergirl. But if u want a show with two women on the run together u got it).
After watching the second season (and falling more in love with the wayhaught story line) I hopped on Twitter (cuz I never used that shit) to see what people were saying. And I found out about "ships", "ship names", wayhaught and this amazing group of fans. I would later realize however when a season 4 looked like it may not happen, that I had found something much greater and didn't even know could exist.
I remember I was obsessed with lost girl after having finished season 1 of wynonna earp (thanks Netflix for that on par recommendation, and also made me confront the possibility that maybe I don't solely just admire female characters and queer characters and that perhaps it's a bit more than admiration but I digress) I started looking up their conventions and I also found Wynonna conventions and interviews on YouTube.
I was... In awe. Because I immediately loved the cast. I mean I loved their characters, but off screen they were these amazing people. Just pure kindness and light. And the show runner/executive producer just created this aurora and vibe that was so comforting, inviting, accepting, hilarious, and family oriented. I was drawn in and wanted to hear more about them, the show, and what was in store. And I grew to love them as much as I did on screen off screen. And followed them on social media to see what they were doing in their lives outside of the show and I had never followed a cast in that way. Like ever. Even though I was obsessed with lost girl, it didn't hit the same as Wynonna did and I still haven't been able to pin point why. Just that magic of Wynonna Earp.
During all that life happens, shows wrap u up in their world and offer an escape from ur story to watch and feel someone else's. And I love that aspect of TV and movies. But this show wasn't like other shows that provided me an escape, or learned something from. I truly learned about others, myself, about representation, about how important different things like trauma, mental health, strength, and forgiveness mainly of one's self from this show. The show was an escape during an transitional period in my life, that transformed and affected me as much as the reality that was happening around me. And for that, for the cast, for the crew, the director, the executive producer, and anyone else involved, and the fans who made me feel welcomed, I thank you. ❤️
It's been a hell of a journey and a pleasure. This last episode was everything I could have wanted for these characters and it's a perfect way to end with a new beginning. And as it's been said, I'm going to "try to enjoy the this of this instead of thinking about the end of this," and I will think about all of the wonderful moments of this show rather than how much I will miss its comforting presence in my life these past four years.

From the period-specific tunes of “The Crown” to the surprising instrumental reworkings of modern pop hits in “Bridgerton,” this season’s Emmy contenders in music supervision showcase the growing field’s continued influence.
Alexandra Patsavas
“Bridgerton” may give veteran music supervisor Patsavas her best shot yet at an Emmy thanks to her clever use of chamber music-style covers of modern pop songs, which help trace the emotional journey of Daphne and Simon (Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page) in Regency-era London.
The Vitamin String Quartet’s renditions of Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next,” Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood” and Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” along with Duomo’s cover of Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams,” sent streaming numbers into the stratosphere soon after the Netflix series debuted in December.
According to Patsavas, discussions about “how a period project could be relevant and inviting,” musically speaking , began months before shooting with producer Shonda Rhimes and series creator Chris Van Dusen. Says Patsavas: “How could the source [music] moments be seamless, presented with a wink and yet still feel appropriate to the beautiful costumes and production design? [Listeners] might sense that they knew the song, but it wouldn’t be an immediate recognition. You’d hear the lyrics in your head.”
Another cover was tailor-made by score composer Kris Bowers, playing piano, and cellist Hillary Smith, of Celeste’s “Strange,” for the couple making love for the first time. Not all the music is faux-classical. Many numbers are the real thing: selections by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Vivaldi and Chopin are also heard in the background of “Bridgerton.” Themes in Bowers’ dramatic underscore were inspired by Ravel piano pieces initially suggested by Van Dusen. Patsavas, who is now director, music creative/production for Netflix, is a trailblazer in the music supervision sector, with early credits on “Grey’s Anatomy” and the “Twilight” films. She has three Grammy nominations and eight more from the Guild of Music Supervisors but has never won a major industry honor.
Maggie Phillips
Kansas City in 1950 is the setting for the fourth season of “Fargo,” and that time and place influenced many of music supervisor Phillips’ choices of songs.
As Phillips explains, show creator Noah Hawley sends her (and composer Jeff Russo) his scripts six to eight months prior to shooting. “He writes with music in mind,” she says. “He gives us some initial jumping-off points, me for listening and Jeff for writing.” To wit: Hawley had Duke Ellington’s Jazz standard “Caravan” in mind for the opening of the season’s first episode, which chronicles the history of ethnic businessmen during the first half of the 20th century. Phillips licensed the Ellington tune as the centerpiece, and Russo adapted the music into different period-appropriate arrangements over the first 20 minutes.
Not all the music needed to be specific to that period, though. Jazzman Art Blakey’s “Moanin’” dates from 1959; Willie Dixon’s “Insane Asylum” from 1968; and Johnny Cash’s “What Is Man” from the 1970s. Says Phillips: “It’s important to capture the emotion.
Jeff Richmond
Richmond, composer-songwriter-music supervisor on “Girls5Eva,” is no stranger to coming up with songs in a hurry. “All those years of writing pastiches and jingles and musical numbers on ‘Saturday Night Live,’” he says. “The train is moving, write it quickly, get a demo out.”
The Peacock series imagines a short-lived ’90s girl group plotting a comeback after a rapper samples their one big hit. It fell to Richmond to re-create that decade’s “girl-power ballad” style for the song flashbacks as well as the new tunes to drive their hoped-for resurgence.
Creator Meredith Scardino’s early scripts had “pieces of songs,” and at first, Richmond says, “we didn’t necessarily know if they were going to be full-length.” “Dream Girlfriends” was designed as a big comeback number, but “Space Boys” was a comedy cutaway and “New York Lonely Boy” was a minute-long song playing in the mind of Dawn (Sara Bareilles).
Many were penned by Richmond and Scardino, but as Dawn begins to write her own material in the series, “we knew that the arc of the music should be a little more honest, sound a little more like Sara’s songs would sound.” So she began contributing too, and the finale song, “4 Stars,” is hers alone.
The pandemic complicated the process, as Richmond was writing and producing in his home studio, sending music to arranger-mixer-guitarist Hanan Rubinstein for improvement, the cast was often singing live during shooting (and tweaking the vocals during post-production), and Richmond was adding strings — all recorded remotely — for the final mix of songs and score. “Things got very hectic,” Richmond says.
Sarah Bridge
Season 4 of “The Crown,” which focuses on Princess Diana’s time in Buckingham Palace, featured more songs than in previous years. “It’s a natural progression as we step into the ’80s, but also the introduction of the younger generation of the royal family becoming center stage,” says music supervisor Bridge.

The opening and closing of Episode 3, as Diana celebrates, and later regrets, her marriage to Prince Charles, is especially compelling for its use of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen.” At first, Diana is euphoric, and she and her flatmates dance to it in a nightclub. Bridge persuaded Nicks to let the production access her raw vocals, heard a cappella under the end titles.
Says Bridge: “Hearing the power and fragility as well within it, it really reflected where Diana ends up. It felt a perfect end-credits moment, to leave it in a kind of isolated, lonely feeling, reflecting Diana’s emotion and where she is at the end of that episode. Stevie was really happy for us to feature it.” That same episode features Elton John’s “Song for Guy,” as Diana dances herself into a frenzy. Bridges re-recorded “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” for a scene where Charles and Diana are touring Australia, and gained permission from Andrew Lloyd Webber to re-record “All I Ask of You” from his “Phantom of the Opera” with a 28-piece orchestra for Episode 9, as Diana presents Charles with a tape of her performance of the song.
*Emmys Nominations-round voting begins on June 17, 2021.

A3! Sakuma Sakuya - Translation [SR] MANKAI Playback (2/2)
Tumblr media
*Please read disclaimer on blog; default name set as Izumi
---
Sakuya: Uwahh… It’s full of people!
Tumblr media
Izumi: (Sakuya-kun looks happy… I’m glad.) (…As expected, the uniform is a bit embarrassing though.)
Masumi: *Sigh*… Director’s cute… Our uniform really suits you…
Izumi: D-does it…?
Tsuzuru: How many times are you gonna go on with that? I’ve heard you say that 5 times already…
Tumblr media
Masumi: I’ll say it countless times. At least 100 more times.
Izumi: Ummm… Where are the other three?
Tsuzuru: In the changing room. Itaru-san still hasn’t prepared his heart yet.
Izumi: Yeah, I understand how he feels. I never thought that it would actually turn out like this…
*flashback starts*
Izumi: I’m fine with going to an amusement park, but even without uniforms…
Masumi: You can’t, I want to go on a uniform date with Director.
Itaru: Alright, so only Director-san.
Tumblr media
Izumi: Hey, that’s not fair..! If I’m doing this, then I’m taking everyone with me!
Itaru: Ehh… Tsuzuru, you’re against the uniforms, right?
Tsuzuru: I wore a school uniform in our performance the other day, so I don’t really mind.
Itaru: Seriously? An unexpected betrayal.
Citron: Give up!
Itaru: Now, now, we still have senpai.
Chikage: Well it’s true I’d like to decline… Give me a break and let me be the teacher in charge.
Citron: No way! It’s meaningful if everyone does it together!
Itaru: —Oh yeah, we don’t have enough uniforms! I mean we don’t have 4 sets of them, right?
Masumi: If it’s uniforms, we can borrow one from Banri; Banri and I both have spares.
Tsuzuru: Just give up already, you three. At this point, we’re all in the same boat.
Sakuya: I’ll ask my friends too!
Itaru: GG…
Chikage: Good grief…
Izumi: We have no choice but to give up, huh…
*flashback ends*
Tsuzuru: We told them we were forcing them to come along and then finally… Ah, they’re here, they’re here.
Tumblr media
Itaru: Ugh, this is seriously cringe! Let me go home right now, I beg you!
Chikage: Give up. You’re not the only one suffering.
Tumblr media
Citron: You’re horrible at sports!*
Itaru: You mean we’re terrible sports.
Chikage: Sorry for the wait.
Sakuya: Wahh! Both Itaru-san and Chikage-san look great in their uniforms!
Chikage: Thank you, Sakuya. …I should’ve avoided the role of a high school student though.
Itaru: Serves you right for tripping the flag… is what I want to say, but I’m also involved here.
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: Anyways, everyone’s here now so let’s go in.
Chikage: Ah, before that, I have something I want you to promise me. It’s that we definitely won’t take any photos.
Itaru: It’s legit a matter of life or death if I’m seen by the people at the office like this. So it’s especially the worst of the worst if Kazunari finds out. So pictures are absolutely NG, kthx.
Tsuzuru: Ahh, that guy… He’ll probably post it to instablam in the blink of an eye.
Izumi: That’d be rough for me too…
Sakuya: I understand! Though that’s kind of too bad.
Citron: It can’t be helped. If the birthday boy can live with that, then I can live with it too!
Tumblr media
Masumi: Let’s go already. My date time with Director is decreasing.
Tsuzuru: You seriously don’t waver, huh…
Citron: Sakuya, you’ve put your birthday badge on properly, right?
Sakuya: Yes!
Izumi: You get various benefits when you’re wearing the birthday badge, right?
Sakuya: Yes, I can’t wait!
-pause-
Cast member A: Happy birthday!
Sakuya: Thank you very much!
Tumblr media
Izumi: The effect of the birthday badge really is impressive, huh?
Sakuya: I’m happy various cast members called out to me and also put on performances for me.
Tsuzuru: For now, what should we ride first?
Masumi: The Ferris wheel.
Sakuya: It seems fun if we ride it together, right!
Izumi: If it’s the Ferris wheel here, then it looks like we can all fit inside.
Masumi: Even though I wanted the two of us to ride it together, why did it turn out everyone’s joining…
Tsuzuru: Alright, alright, you can do that next time. Sakuya said he wants everyone to ride it together.
Masumi: …I got it. But I’m the one who will sit next to Director.
Tumblr media
-pause-
Izumi:  The haunted house was pretty scary and intense…!
Sakuya: Right? At first, it was scary and intense. But Citron-san taught me all the names of the ghosts so then rather than being scared, I started to feel a bond with them.
Tsuzuru: The names of the ghosts…
Sakuya: Mii-chan, Takkun, he knew everyone’s names!
Citron: The other day on TV, they said when you think you’re scared, if you give them names then you can be content** over your fear!
Itaru: You mean you can conquer your fear.
Citron: That’s it!
Izumi: (That sounds like a lesson from a children’s education program…)
-pause-
Chikage: It’s about lunch time, right?
Izumi: Fufufu, I’ve been waiting to hear those words! Tah daaah! Actually, I made lunch boxes!
Masumi: Director’s handmade lunch box…! I’ll eat them all.
Izumi: Tsuzuru-kun and I made them together for everyone.
Masumi: …Then I’ll only eat the parts that were made by Director.
Tsuzuru: You get nothing.
Sakuya: Ah! It’s napolitan!
Option 1: “Because that’s what Sakuya-kun likes.”
Izumi: Yeah, because that’s what Sakuya-kun likes!
Sakuya: Thank you very much… I’m happy!
Chikage: As expected of Director-san. By the way, I’d be glad if you had tabasco sauce.
Masumi: I don’t understand why you’d put tabasco in the precious food she made.
Option 2: “Its colour combination is nice too, right?”
Izumi: Its colour combination is nice too, right!
Sakuya: That’s true… there’s a lot of garnishes put in.
Itaru: This isn’t the amount you put in for garnishes. They’re the main dish.
Izumi: Eat up, alright, Sakuya-kun!
Sakuya: Yes!
Citron: And now, we can’t forget about this! Happy birthday~!
Sakuya: That’s a big cake! Wait, from where!?
Citron: Fufufu… The surprise is a huge success! Our preparations were perfect!
Sakuya: I’m really happy! Thank you very much, everyone! I was longing for this a little—going out and having fun to my fullest in my uniform. I never imagined it would come true after I graduated…
Izumi: …That’s so great, right, Sakuya-kun?
Sakuya: Yes! U-um… I have something I'd like to do.
Tsuzuru: It’s rare for Sakuya to say something like that.
Izumi: That’s true… What is it that you want to do?
Sakuya: Would you please allow me to take a picture with my smartphone? Just one photo for my memories is enough, so…!
Izumi: A picture…?
Sakuya: I definitely won’t show it to anyone else!
Tsuzuru: That’s fine with me but… How about Itaru-san and you guys?
Chikage: …If the main lead today says so then it can’t be helped.
Tumblr media
Itaru: Well, I guess it’s only fine if Sakuya’s the one who takes it. Since I’m sure he won’t send it to anyone.
Sakuya: Thank you very much!
Citron: I brought a shellfish stick!***
Sakuya: Shellfish stick?
Tsuzuru: Could you mean a selfie stick?
Citron: That’s it!
Izumi: …Alright. I think everyone’s in frame. Make sure to smile properly, alright, Itaru-san and Chikage-san.
Chikage: I understand.
Itaru: Roger.
Izumi: Then once again, Sakuya-kun…
Troupe members: Happy birthday!

*Citron says "お嬢様が悪い" (ojou-sama ga warui: ~the young mistress is bad), which Itaru corrects as "往生際が悪い" (oujougiwa ga warui: a phrase meaning ~being a sore loser/not knowing when to give up) **Citron says "幸福" (koufuku: happiness/joy), which Itaru corrects as "克服" (kokufuku: overcome/conquer) **Citron says "千鳥足" (chidoriashi: staggering/drunken steps), which Tsuzuru corrects as "自撮り棒" (jidoribou: selfie stick)
