1. Who is your favorite character?

On the first watch it was Charles, and then on my 2nd-4th watch I was really invested in Edwin’s character… his physicality alone is just so fun to watch and pick apart. Now, 7+ watches in, I have reverted to loving Charles. He’s just so good and empathetic and also just cool. More on him for the next question haha

5. What character do you relate to the most?

I have a tendency to project onto characters with Daddy issues, especially characters who are cheerful, protective, and try really hard to be a good person. So the more I look into Charles as a character the more attached I get to him (let’s be clear tho my relationship with my dad is NOWHERE near his, but I relate to the feeling of trying so hard to be good and do things Right only for your mistakes and failures to be seen as some intentional act of rebellion). We’re getting way too deep into it here but ADHD, questioning, possibly demiromantic Charles headcanons hit me right in the heart.

"What are you looking at," she deadpans, but her mouth is curved up in that usual smirk she gives him, and Pierre realizes that her lipstick matches her dress; he clutches the corsage case tighter and shakes his head, trying to play it off, but it's no use--she's caught him red-handed as she starts making her way towards the car, and when her smirk stretches into a full-on grin, he knows he's doomed.

SO beginning w/ how they met, it was on a circuit exchange !! Castle is from a mixed circuit that contains people of all genders. Castle based their gimmick off of their favorite place, namely the ocean !! For that reason, they took an immediate liking to Hippo, seeing as he liked to surf and has a general interest in the ocean as well, unlike macho, who's also a surfer, but is too cocky for Castle's liking.

As for what they call themselves, in the simplest terms, they're in a queerplatonic relationship !! Both love the idea of being with eachother, but not being confined by the idea of a relationship or marriage, at least not yet. Or maybe not ever.

Aside from sparring, their time is also spent just doing little tasks together, like preparing food for feasts. Often times, Hippo will throw food to Castle, which she'll catch with her mouth. It makes Hippo do a little roar laugh :] (thank you maber for the idea)

They are tism4tism n sometimes Hippo will have days where he just goes nonverbal. Castle doesn't mind, he can just communicate through physical affection.

Hippo loves touching Castle's buzzed sides. It's a nice stim for him hghg

Their senses of humor line up perfectly. Hippo's is very blunt and literal which castle adores. Castle is often unintentionally funny which hippo likes to tease castle ab a lil bit

They've travelled to eachother's home countries before. In terms of the Netherlands, Hippo is especially mesmerized by all the meadows with grazing animals n architecture in the cities with canals. As for Hippo Island, Castle loves the flora and fauna n the art thats made there!!

Speaking of art, once they became closer, hippo wanted to make art for castle as she's had been doing of him. He can't really draw all that well though (big strong hands that instantly break pencils). So what does he do ? He turns to the ancient art of petroglyphs, of course !! Castle was ofc over the moon once he learned hippo carved him into a rock, the likeness so striking despite the lack of details.

Lastly...

the dichotomy between chalex and galex is fascinating to me... charles and alex are light and sweet (caught giggling before races) and then george absolutely steamrolls his way through with something so devastating, so casually poetic (touching alex's bleeding wounds mid-interview). puppy love vs. star-crossed lovers i'm afraid

there IS a dichotomy and different appeals from both of them! UNFORCH AS A CHALEX LOVER (and a galex enjoyer!) i dont think chalex is puppy love, as in i don't write them with that intent as in i obviously have an overthought thesis in my mind!!

i think georges relationship to alex is very like. if i loved you less i could talk about it more, hunger etc. (also something about george being the youngest of the three of them… the way he seeks attention…. i dont have a coherent thought about this but. something!) and yes. very poetic siken bleeding wounds cannibalistic consumption 😋

alex with charles i dont think it is alll sweetness and light! the chalex pre race chatty pics areee everything and i think that alex is… in some ways more overtly kind to charles like when he doesnt make fun of him for not understanding things he explains things to him a lot (there’s video evidence but obv im lazy) BUT i think thats also to do with how genuine charles is like. hes never hesitant to be curious and to admit when he doesnt know things. compared to george who i feel rlly wants to give the impression of competency and being In and Getting It. in return, i think alex likes it a lot when people are straightforward, it reflects his own nature!

but alex is not Not mean to charles. and im also fascinated by the work it mustve took from being teammates in the feeder series and competing against each other (iirc charles and alex were the big championship contenders….?) and charles getting to f1 first and everything… to be very nice to each other now because they get along so well is soo interesting!! i also think alex at his worst could be resentful, and spiteful. and is that not delicious??? i think charles also has a tendency towards… believing things will work out for him because they do. and a lot of alexs life has NOT worked out, has been very very hard work for him to work it out, i mean he was benched! no seat! i think those conflicting worldviews also offer a lot for the depth of their relationship. they have fundamentally different outlooks and ways for solving problems that both allows them to get along well, and at the same time is material for conflict.

its like. in chalex, alex is the one more inclined to certain neuroses. in galex, its george. (they all have neuroses but im just saying the like. tendency…)

i LOVE this kind of writing, i really do. (yes, i'm secretly an angst monster 💙) and i'm so proud of the bits of this fic i've already got!! like, i genuinely love reading it back and being like "oh wow... oh yeah i really wrote that... italicised oh"

it's just tricky to try and stitch the pieces TOGETHER, is the thing. like, i have a pretty great beginning, a fantastically angsty ending, and some really great (but disjointed) middle snippets. i just can't get them all to flow into a coherent whole yet 😑 so, yeah. bit of a pain in my ASS, is this fic, much as i fucking love every word of it.

Alex pouted, her brows knitted in a frown as she stared blankly at your post; constantly refreshing it to see whether or not you replied to her comment yet.

But every time she does, she gets disappointed—not seeing your reply just makes her grow fonder of your presence.

With a deep sighed, Alex turned off her phone and buried her face in y/n’s favorite pillow. The one she uses every time they sleep, the one that has her lingering smell on it, and the one Charles and Alex coddles up whenever they miss you. Which is constantly so they fight about whoever gets it.

Alex stared blankly at the ceiling, her mind was clouded with the thoughts of you. She just misses you so much it’s killing her. Literally.

The only reason you were out was because of your job; you love modeling that’s why they couldn’t have the guts to stop you from going. But now they just wished that they stopped you.

“Ughhhhh” she sighed, dragging the h along the tone of her boredness. Her voice echoing around the empty room which caught the attention of their boyfriend.

“What’s the matter, bébé?” Charles asked, peeking his head into the doorframe.

Alex lazily dragged her head up to face charles. “Everything’s cool, i just miss her is all” she mumbled, her voice laced with sadness and longing.

Charles smiled emphatically, he knows what it’s like to miss you— he’s going through that too but he’s not taking it as hard like Alex though. He’s trying to act strong for the both of them, i mean someone has to, right?

Alex felt the couch dipped down as Charles sat besides her frame. “Should we call y/n and see what’s she’s up to?” He asked, rubbing soft circles around her back.

“No” she replied all muffled due to her head still facing down and resting on your pillow.

She wanted them to call you; to hear your sweet voice. Alex wanted nothing more than that, but then again she doesn’t want to disturb you and ruin your fun.

“Let’s just watch a movie and try to get our minds of her, yeah?” Sighing defeatedly, alex nodded her head and muttered a low ‘sure’ making Charles smile happily.

So that’s what they did, they watched a movie, and ate all the food they could find in the house until they fell asleep.

They woke up the very next day— saw your recent post and started to miss you like crazy again.
