Wat Pa Lak Roi. A Buddhist temple park extolling the pleasures of paradise and what happens when you’re bad. Literally hundreds of hand made figures here. Many old coin operated animatronics with sound & many broken. Too much to describe, to see more check out on youtube/web. 抑圧された目のためのものではありません。 30 minutes north of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. #watpalakroi #khorat #korat #nakhonratchasima #thaiwat #wat #temples #jessepaulmiller https://www.instagram.com/p/CpfIomxvFvL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, Isan, Northeast Thailand From Wikipedia: “The Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, the most elaborate of the traditional parading of candles to wats (Thai: แห่เทียน, romanized: hae thian), is held in Ubon Ratchathani, Isan, Thailand, around the days of Asanha Puja (which commemorates the Buddha's first sermon) and Wan Kao Pansa (which marks the beginning of vassa). At the start of the Lenten period, it is traditional in preparation for the rainy season for the devout to donate to items for the personal use of monks, and of candles to dispel gloom in their quarters and elsewhere within the wat. The latter is often the core event of many village celebrations, but is at its most elaborate in the Ubon Ratchathani version, which nowadays is a major event both for residents and for tourists: giant candles are paraded through the town, each representing a local temple, district or other institution. The more elaborate versions are accompanied by scenes of Hindu and Buddhist mythology sculpted in wood or plaster and coated with wax. Of course, these candles are never burned.” I wanted to share with you what the festival was like but most of my photos of the event didn’t survive so I turned to Wikipedia Commons for Creative Commons Images and found these two. The even is colorful and the participants in the parade portion of the event are dressed in the traditional attire of the region known as Isan. There is also dancing and music. I witnessed this back in 1980, forty years ago, and it’s still vivid in my memory. #UbonRatchathani #UbonRatchathaniCandleFestival #IsanCulture #NortheastThailand #BuddhistLent #ThaiWats #BuddhistWat #BbuddhistTemple #CandleFestival https://www.instagram.com/p/CHhPbNWl2XL/?igshid=1tjpx9mje8p08

Adventure Tour - Day 4!
Temples and temples and temples!
You’ve probably heard a tourist in Asia say something along the lines of, “Once you’ve seen a few temples, you’ve seen them all!” I am here to settle this debate once and for all... FALSE!
All temples are not the same, and while they may look similar to the untrained eye, each temple is rich with its own stories, culture, and specific purpose (kind of like people)! We got to see numerous different temples and, since we had an amazing tour guide with us, learn all about the history behind each one of them. Below are two of my favorites from the whole tour...
Dragon Temple
This temple was absolutely beautifully constructed, with one of Buddha’s teeth as the center point of the temple. The walk way was steeper than the picture above makes it seem, but once again you are rewarded when you get to the top by another one of Thailand’s beautiful viewpoints. Walking around the outside of the temple (to the right), you will also see a huge golden Buddha.
Following the lead of the tour guide, I also bowed my head in prayer and thanks to the Buddha and received my prophecy.
I think it’s a pretty good one and describes me perfectly!
To receive this, I shook a cup full of numbered bamboo sticks. The number of the first one that falls out corresponds to your prophecy that is posed on the wall. I am a big (secret) fan of astrology, prophecies, and karma, so I was ecstatic to take part in this experience!
Cave Temple
This temple is probably my favorite temple that I’ve ever visited! After the 200+ stairs to get to the top of the temple, you are rewarded with a beautiful viewpoint and an even more amazing temple built into the cave system.
Most of the pictures I took of this temple just don’t do it justice, so you’ll have to take a trip out to Phang Nga, Thailand and see it for yourself!
Another cool thing about this temple, the monk that lives at this temple has been here for 26 years! Here we are after we had tea with the monk and received our blessing!
A very eventful day! Stay tuned for day 5!
Note: In case you didn’t know, “wat” means temple in most of southeast Asia (either Buddhist or Hindu). #themoreyouknow
