A story/some oc's I've been having fun with!
This started as a dream I had a long time ago but I randomly started thinking about it lately and I've been writing and drawing some stuff just for fun and it's a little bit taken over my brain ( ͡• ͜ʖ ͡• )
Yes the title is a pun because this is absolutely because I want more grunge Thai bl series vibes. Yes this is absolutely completely 100% self indulgent and I will be doing all of my favorite tropes (*/ω\*). I don't really plan on posting my writings anywhere, but I wanted to post these sketches and a summary below the cut:
"When the Bloom evolves to infect humanity, civilization crumbles. Exposure to the plant’s toxic pollen brings sickness and a slow, creeping death, flowers bursting from corpses to reanimate the dead and spread. In a matter of months, Bloom consumes the world.
In the aftermath, survivors of humanity band together into competing gangs fighting over resources, dwindling supplies, and safety. The Mafia families, retaining much of their power despite the collapse of society, claim most of the territory in Thailand.
When Nok, a short-tempered boba barista, meets Gray, a mafia heir running from his past, they fall in love despite the horror of their new world. Trapped between the ever-present threat of the deadly pollen, the vicious infected, and the ruthless Mafia, Nok and Gray must fight to build a place for themselves. But when Gray disappears without a word, Nok is left heartbroken and furious and alone. After months of fighting for only himself, Nok is even more enraged when Gray returns, charming as ever. Now Nok must make a choice: cut Gray off completely or find a way to trust again in this blighted world."
[summary written by my amazing wonderful incredible sister @speculativepages who does writing stuff! I gave her gobbly gook and she gave me a freaking series promo!! I recommend ₊₍ ᐢ..ᐢ₎/ ₊˚⊹♡]

i love how little the camera moves in our dining table and how many shots are just long and still and a little removed from the characters. it makes it feel so intimate, like the fourth wall is barely there and you're just a fly on the wall in their lives
#i'm sure it has to do with originating as a manga as much as anything#regardless the stripped down-ness of it serves the story/vibes so well#and is honestly refreshing given that most of what i watch is thai bl akdhdf#bon.txt#our dining table#bon watches odt#liveblog tag

Currently Watching - July
aka The Masterlist
Because I love a good little list - in alphabetical order! 😊
Regularly updated during the month, latest update 31.07.2024
A little link to my favorite bl-tropes-collection 💙
gif-requests are currently closed🌼
Here you can find all of my gifs.
At the end you can have a look at what we can expect in April with a MDL link and a link for a trailer (if avaible).
This is guaranteed to contain spoilers!
1. 4 Minutes 🇹🇭 (1/8)
The first episode was interesting. The second couple just stole the show for me. It was... yeah... It was intense. And because I can't watch it in HD there are no gifs from my side. But in my mind I did some. I am really interested how the story will progress. I haven't seen the trailer, I am just going in blind and this is exciting! But please give Fuaiz a happy ending! I am still not over the DFF ending...
2. Bad Guy 🇰🇷 (2/4)
Our bad guy from Blue Boys is back with his own little show. And it is good. I like it. Riu is getting married soon, but before that he gets in contact with his ex-partner and old feelings are coming back to the surface. And yes, I think he is the bad guy. But I understand him. He feels like he has no other choice and can't live a happy life being a gay guy in a relationship with another man. I am really looking forward to how this will end!
3. Century of Love 🇹🇭 (7/10)
This series is really good! I was hooked in today's episode. The tension was really good and I can't wait to get to know how this all turns out. What will happen next week? Even though I knew Vad was the bad one, I am really curious which role she is really playing. And I really felt heartbroken for Vee and San. Such a good story! Damn!
4. Hidamari ga Kikoeru 🇯🇵 (6/12)
I love them. I want to watch it again and again. It feels just so... real. So relatable. So honest. So raw. The struggle Taichi has to understand and accept his feelings for Kohei is so good to watch. He is so happy whenever he sees Kohei or speaks about him and I love his friends, who I guess, already can tell Taichi likes Kohei, but they just let him discover this on his own and are just there for him, poking him a little bit in the right direction. Oh I love this series so much!
5. His Man Season 3 🇰🇷 (12/14)
Okay, the new episodes were not as bad as the previous ones. I still don't get why everyone is crying and Jaeseung's whiny behavior because he can't get a date with Seongmin is a little bit annoying, but okay. The dates were okay. I think it is interesting that there are so many "couples", and I am curious who can stay in contact after the show and who become a real couple in the end. I don't feel it that much, but who knows how they feel.
6. I Saw You In My Dream 🇹🇭 (2/12)
I started a new series... Yay for me and my wednesdays 😭But this one really looks promising. I haven't heard of it that much and just blindly started watching. So Ai dreams and his dreams come true and he dreams he has his first time with Yu, his neighbour, who usually teases him and it is really cute. Not the first time, but the story so far.
7. My Love Mix-Up! 🇹🇭 (6/12)
I see so many posts from people not liking this one and I am sitting here enjoying most of this story. I don't compare it to anything. i just enjoy some awkward fluff and the cringe that comes with it. And I think the casting is quite good. I don't have the strongest feeling for the japanese original. I really enjoyed it and it is a great series, but I think the thai one is entertaining too and the chemistry between those two is still there. This epsiode we had a cute date and they finally progressed a little bit in their relationship-state and holding hand, which is now causing problems.
8. Takara no Vidro 🇯🇵 (5/11)
Still get some stalker-vibes from this one. But it is okay. Taishin slowly realises he likes Takara. It is kinda cute. And you can tell me what you want, but Takara is already very smitten by his little stalker friend. But it was a cute episode with them helping the little kid finding back home.
9. The Trainee 🇹🇭 (5/10)
Jane is nice to Ryan. I like it. Jane opens up to Ryan. I like it. Ryan smiles like a little sunshine because Jane is nice to him. I like it. I like this series. It is such a feel good show and OffGun are really good! And the side stories are interesting as well! Such a good sunday-watch!
10. Word of Honor 🇨🇳 (20/36)
Those two flirt a lot and are a married couple. Everyone knows that. And I love and enjoy that! Overall this is such a fun watch and the different sects and intrigues are sometimes a little bit confusing, but interesting. I love this world of martial arts and I love how protective Wen Kexing is over Zhou Zishu. I haven't felt like watching this lately. I wasn't in the right mood.
Finished in July
Series
Blue Boys Part 2 🇰🇷
Okay, we got our happy ending. I always say you can have feelings for other people when you are in a relationship. That is normal. And I am totally on Namyi's side when he asked Jaemin to trust him and to talk to him about such things. Keeping it a secret, especially when something happend, is not good. So I am happy both found their happy ending with each other and Jaemin finally allowed himself to be loved by Namyi. Over all for this second part I give a 7 out of 10.
My Stand-In 🇹🇭
Isn't it wholesome when everybody gets a happy ending in the end? Hm. Not really. Tong shouldn't have got his redemption. He should have ended up alone. Ming's dad should suffer because he finally lost his son, while the son is thriving on love. This last episode was really just a very long happy ending. And for most parts I really enjoyed it! After all the pain and the tears and the toxicity, there was finally wholesome shit on my screen! Overall it was a good show, not my favorite, but it was very much watchable. I give it 7 out of 10.
Wandee Goodday 🇹🇭
What a let down with the last episodes. This series started out so strong. The Vibe was so cool with casual sex and asexuality representation and after a few episodes... pufff... nothing. Kao has just a few scenes and when he was on camera, he was just a supporting act for Dee to get back with Yak or to think about his emotions. But his storyline was just left aside and squeezed back in the last episode, because they needed this closure... Oye never had to deal with any consequences for his actions. He just paid and now they live happily ever after... come on. Cher loves him, but this is such a big deal that I wished there was a little bit less product placement for them and some real talking about the whole stuff. And Dee and Yak. I love GreatInn together, but the script did them dirty! Yak became such a puppy, and Dee was confused and surprised all the time. And those open love expressions! I really don't like them! Especially when you have the main character telling people he can't be in a same-sex-relationship because of the media and his reputation... aha... sure... And this whole Ter gets his redemption in the end... Fuck that guy! He don't deserve anything! Just let him be miserable and alone in the end! He played with everyone! And don't get me started on the break-up-idea... Just talk about stuff and perhaps think about shit before it is almost too late! Oh, I am a little pissed... Overall I gave it 6,5 out of 10, but perhaps in the future I change it... The story was really not that strong and every little piece of problem was solved in the last episode and that just felt wrong! And it is wrong! You can't cure such a big trauma which includes halucinations just with love and some good words! No! I correct myself, I give this 5 out of 10...
The Boyfriend 🇯🇵
We've got our Happy Ending! Not just for Shun and Dai, but also for Alan and Kazuto. Now I am curious how life played for the contestants and I am looking forward to the reunion, which I won't be able to understand, because it will air in the Netflix Japan Youtube Channel without subtitles... Well, I wait for the fan-translations. I just wish all of them are happy! And my thoughts during this last moments of the show: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy. And I give this show a 10 out of 10.
We Are 🇹🇭
I am really glad I waited with this one to binge-watch it. So I dodn't have to wait that long for the next episode. It was such a fun watch. There was nothing much happening, and yet it was very entertaining. We just saw friends getting together, having a good time, developing new feelings for each other and facing every day problems. I was quite surprised how well it was written and how much I liked it in the end. I give it 9 out of 10.

This love doesn't have long beans 🇹🇭
My first drop after a while. And with such a popular show. But I really can't stand Plawan at this point. I guess I will come back from time to time, to have a look if I cringe or not, but I just know that this one isn't for me. Guess I will watch it mostly through gifs here on this heavenly hell site.
Looking forward to in July

Every You, Every Me
Story 4 (Part 1 which is ep 5 is that confusing enough for you)
Immediately panicking at the sight of a guitar in a Thai BL
Ooh the half ponytail improves this hair situation a lot
Relieved to be getting a more comedic vibe after the heavy melodrama of the last story
I wonder if this little guy in the flashback is his ex or maybe his brother
Top is shirtless an awful lot in this ep and I for one appreciate it
Well at least he's giving guitar lessons and not singing lessons, small mercies
The way this guy never stops lifting weights is killing me
HAHAHA and now the sprinkler. Who gets credit for this trope originally? Love Sick? But the yard looks so similar to the one from Puppy Honey Our Skyy... @twig-tea I need a ruling
I feel like I'm in a sexy music video (and I never want to leave)
Love the nail painting
One thing I've observed over the previous segments is that the two of them haven't been kissing much, and definitely not on what felt like a natural progression of physical intimacy for their depicted relationships, and I didn't get why. But NOT SO here. So now I am wondering whether that was intentional, and if so, to what end.
Anyway, HOT KISS 😏
A good bed scene, too! This ep is our reward for surviving the melodrama
DO YOU WANT TO SWITCH POSITIONS NEXT TIME
LMAO he did not just try to have that conversation in mime in front of his little brother
MOAR HOT KISSES
Not the kettle 🤣 and the carrot 🤣 stop it show
WHAT ARE THEY SO CUTE FOR
The energy in this latest flashback with James feels too flirty for brothers.
An angry girl has entered the story
No don't fight! Go back to kissing!
To Be Continued
WELL. This is certainly my favorite mini story of the bunch so far. Very curious to see how it finishes up in a few days. And I still have no clue if/how these stories are meant to connect. What a unique show, which is a feat since it is dealing entirely in well-worn tropes.

Hello, hi.
Next week is Cherry Magic's last episode and I'd like a suggestion as to what to watch next. Since last year I've watched some shows that I've enjoyed to different degrees. So far I've vibed more with the Japanese ones and only have watched two Thai shows: step by step and cherry magic.
I definitely like cherry magic more but I'd like to watch some more Thai bl, as I can see they're very popular, but honestly I don't know where to begin. I don't know if mentioning my favorite shows would help?
Old fashion cupcake
Cherry magic (JP)
I cannot reach you
Semantic error
Thank you so much in advance 🙌🏽
This is a perfect question for me!
I think you're vibbing more with Cherry Magic Th because it's following the original yaoi so closely, so it's def more JBL feeling story than it is ThBL.
Okay so your favorites are:
Old Fashion Cupcake
Cherry Magic original
I Cannot Reach You*
Semantic Error*
You've named some of my all time favorites, and 2 of my VERY few top 10s*. (For more of my top 10 JBLs, try here (pre 2023). For my top 10 KBLs, those are here. And my top BLs of all time are here.)
But you want Thai recommendations?
Before I start, off script, seek ye Seven Days. It's my favorite JBL of all time and it's absolutely amazing and very special. It's in two parts and worth every effor to try to find. Here's me talking about it.
First, let me triage some connective tissue.
It seems like you like soft and gentle BL. (Try this cozy list.)
You like JBL so that means higher filming standards and certain aura of authenticity.
Also a lower heat level.
Okay, here are 10 Thai BLs I think you should try, in order...
10 Thai BLs to try if you prefer soft Japanese BL
1 Until We Meet Again (YouTube)
UWMA is, without question, a work of narrative genius with a powerful and cohesive romantic backbone and stellar performances. It is (to date) the only Thai BL that I’ve rated a 10/10 predominantly on the basis of story structure. That said it is also very well cast (and it’s a BIG cast), with solid production values, and enduring pair branding and a softness and complexity that should appeal for a JBL stan. More of my feels on this on here.
trigger warning on the original trigger
2 I Feel You Linger in the Air (iQIYI or grey)
I truly loved this time travel romance. IFYLITA is an exquisite BL, from filming techniques to narrative framework (much like Until We Meet Again). Steeped in history and family drama it edges into lakorn AKA soap opera. This is an elegant and classy BL… from Thailand which normally doesn't even try for classy. The main couple (both as a pair and individuals) were excellent, particularly Bright (Yai) whose eye-work acting style is a personal favorite of mine. Pity about the ending. Oh it wasn’t that sad but it wasn’t great either. However, JBL isn't noted for sticking the landings either. Full review and discussion here.
3 My Ride (Gaga)
Thai BL grew up with this little pulp (the first ever to make my end of year top 10). It’s a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine (AKA a cinnamon roll couple) plus mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede, the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. Full review.
My caveat with this one is, like Step by Step, it is a Thai pulp which mean production values will not be up to Japan's standards. So if you bounce hard off the style of the first few 2 eps, it doesn't get better, so drop it and move on.
4 A Tale of Thousand Stars (YouTube)
With great casting and cinematography this drama nods at BL tropes but manages to elevate them (and itself) with a strong mature story concept about a spoiled rich kid who gets a heart transplant and becomes a rural teacher in order to pay out survivor’s guilt. On the way he falls in love with a local park ranger and contends with his own classism and escapist tendencies. Everyone seemed to perfectly suit their roles and GMMTV made the most out of its stable. Combined with excellent production (and post production) values, 1000 Stars is without question GMMTV’s most mature, charming, and smart BL series. I think it should go down as one of the top BLs of all time. I feel safe recommending this one to friends and non BL watchers.
5 He's Coming to Me (YouTube)
Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence. The third in my precious triumvirate of unbeatable Thai BLs, that are only nominally BL because the story, acting, and production values are so good. (others are UWMA & 1k*)
You don't mention any PNR or high concept, but I still think it's worth giving this one a try.
6 Moonlight Chicken (YouTube)
I enjoyed this complicated little show, even though it’s spectacularly messy gay with lots of shrapnel and authentic pain. I thought the leads (EarthMix from 1k*) turned in their most compelling performance to date. But it was GeminiFourth (My School President) who stole my heart. That said, the most interesting central relationship was that of Jim & Li Ming, their father-son angst mixed with evident affection made me tear up. This was more slice of life than it was BL, but it ended happily so I’m not mad at it. Full review here.
It's not as soft as you like, but you might try it anyway, because it is Very Good.
A note if you watch this and enjoy GeminiFourth, you could try their BL, My School President. I chose not to explicitly rec it to you because it's VERY Thai Bl with lots of comedy and slapstick, and you named prestige JBL and KBL (which are the anthesis of this). Taht said, MSP has no more or less than Japan's Cherry Magic, so you might enjoy it.
7 Make a Wish (grey)
An odd pull but I'm going with it. This PNR (from noted Y-novelist Sammon - Manner of Death & Triage) about a doctor who can see the dead and strikes a bargain with a wish-granting irreverent tree angel - naturally they fall in love. The Thai afterlife is incredibly bureaucratic but I enjoyed the premise and the unfolding of the story (it’s not predictable but still satisfying and with nice little twist). I like that the doctor is just gay af and has a fag hag bestie and everything. The cast is excellent but the comedic stylings could feel too overblown and tonally off. (But again no more than something like Japan's Cherry Magic.) It had sad parts and did make me cry but is ultimately happy with a great sex scene, good smiley kisses, and all the agency.
8 Bed Friend (YouTube -cut version, iQIYI - v high heat)
You didn't name My Personal Weatherman (a great high heat JBL from last year) but if you want to try some Thai-style high heat, this is your best bet. Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship that is built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly longing eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged (ALL THE TRIGGERS). NetJames give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth, the story ultimately fails them at little as it waffles and went off the rails. But that's a Thai BL thing. Full review here.
Triggers include: child abuse, attempted rape, family abuse
9 The Eclipse (YouTube)
This is a good show but the cast is excellent and the leads are absolutely flawless, which elevates it beyond just good. We got a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection, plus plenty of angst. This narrative is less about love than it is about courage and tenderness. However, near the end the pacing was off and the plot frustrating. Still, this is an enjoyable watch, with a finale that features verbal consent and a fun blooper reel.
10 Love By Chance (YouTube)
Okay I dithered a lot over this last one and finally chose this. Because in an intro to Thai BL you should have at least one trail by fire and that's bound to be a MAME offering.
AePete’s meet cute is one of the best ever put on screen. They are just so genuine and soft with each other, it’s hard not to love them from the first moment. All the best Thai BL tropes deployed (and there are a lot of them) are earned honestly by the narrative, including the seme/uke dynamic (such as it is). The characters are unique as this is a poor/rich pairing, where Ae is tough & scrappy, caring & protective, and probably demisexual, while Pete is timid, shy, lonely, and out gay (with his peers). The language is also glorious with Pete using formal (even old fashioned) register, while Ae is entirely rude. You can train your ear for Thai high & low registers with this show (in fact, it's why I started learning them). As surrounding characters point out, they shouldn't work together, and yet they're very much wonderful when they are together.
HOWEVER: You watch LBC for the mains, ignore the sides (trigger warnings), and don't bother with any of the follow ups and you'll be fine. AePete will remain in your heart for a really long time. They are still one of my all time favorite couples. Also (still) two of the Thai BL industry's most famous actors.
For those who are wondering, yes the last contender was, indeed, Bad Buddy. But I chose LBC purely on the basis of softness.
There it is.
I hope I have picked some winners for you and please loop back around and let me know how it goes?
I really want to know if any of these worked for you, this was such a fun challenge.

So the showcase ended. Time for me to talk about all the BL's and the GL that came out. As well as the one non BL/GL show I am interested in.
Leap Day
So the only non BL/GL show I am interested in. I love Gun in these types of roles. He is just really good at it.
Ossan's Love
Haven't seen the original but I don't vibe with this one. The type of comedy here is not my thing so I will skip.
The Heart Killers
OMG YES YES YES. AND BOTH FK AND JD? TWO OF MY FAVE SHIPS! EVEN BETTER. A Thai person on twitter already predicted these 2 ships would be together in a BL about 2 weeks back.
Perfect 10 Liners
Boring ships (PC&FB) with a boring director. Sounds about right. But also to big of a cast and justice for MarcPoon and AuBoom. Skip 100%
US
It's a GL so will watch. Doesn't look to spectacular but it's fine.
Thame Po, Heart that Skips a Beat
ESTWILLILAM! Rumours where 101% true. Yeh will watch just for them. Let's see how this plot will play out. Like will it have a good execution.
Revamp
Not much of a vampire fan as well as BounPrem. So will most likely not watch.
Sweet Tooth
Jittarain? 100% skip. Mark also deserves better then a bl like this.
The Ex Morning
KS COMEBACK YOU ALL. And I am seated. Also cannot believe the plot is basicly their real life story 🤣
Gotta love this

fall 2024 cdrama + kdrama check-in list
haven't done a check in/wrap up post of dramas watched in a while so wanted to do one before the end of the year ✨ hoping to have finished a lot of these and have a list of reviews at around new years
dramas watched
story of kunning palace (cdrama)
8.5/10 for me. This is my year of loving costume period cdramas and I kicked it off with sokp. Really enjoyed the time travel/redemption plot line and Bai Lu as a somewhat reformed evil empress.
the legend of shenli (cdrama)
9/10 for me. A little slow in places but this goes down in my list of fav drama romances. Badass and admirable female lead and quirky oddball male lead who simps for her (as he should). I found the fantasy somewhat goofy but lovably so. This is a *comfort* show for me now. Has the best happy ending/post finale last episode I've seen up to now.
the double (cdrama)
9.5/10 for me for the sheer melodrama. Is this technically a better drama than the legend of shenli? No, of course not. Is it entertaining as hell? Yes, so it's gets a .5 boost. Costume period one-woman's-revenge, absolutely delicious. Hilarious male lead who loves the drama of it all and is very handsome. I was telling a friend about this and she was confused. Weren't you just watching this earlier this year? No, dear reader, she had the revenge stuff confused with Story of Kunning Palace. I have a type, and that is conniving women getting what they want in beautiful period costumes while a handsome, competent man answers their beck and call and simps all the while.
currently watching
RIGHT NOW: Are You the One (cdrama) - ep 22/40
This started out as costume period brain popcorn for me but now there's intrigue and back-stabbing and a clever woman out-scheming men in power so. yeah i'm enjoying this i guess whatever...
RIGHT NOW: Cinderella at 2am (kdrama) - ep 3/10
I haven't watched a kdrama in a while and I wanted a comforting, brain-popcorn modern rom com. I think this will deliver.
My Journey to You (cdrama) - on ep 20/24
I am DETERMINED to finish the gorgeous scheming assassin ladies period drama. I WILL. It's just the main plotline made me snooze a bit at ep 20 so it's taking me a while.
The Princess Royal (cdrama) - ep 6/40
Snowfall (cdrama) - 17/24
dropped or on hold (I'm a mood watcher)
[on hold] Love Like the Galaxy part 2 (cdrama) - ep 12/29
[on hold] Meet you at the blossom (uncensored period BL, Thai) - ep 4/12
[on hold] Lost You Forever season one (cdrama) - ep 17/39
[on hold] In Blossom (cdrama) - ep 22/32
Another one I am DETERMINED to finish!! But I don't vibe with the main actress. I loved the one who played the female lead before the body swapping. Otherwise this drama has everything I would ever want: costume period murder mysteries, a very beautiful man who devotedly simps for his nice wife, a clever female lead with quirky interests, BODY SWAPPING AND IDENTITY SHENANIGANS.
[can't decide to drop or not] Only For Love (cdrama) - ep 21/36
I can't really stand modern-setting cdramas, I'm sorry. I was watching this one for Wang Hedi. I somehow made it to episode 21 despite the cringe. Might finish watching this while pmsing.
[can't decide] Tale of the Nine-tailed 1938 (kdrama) - ep 9/12
Idk why but I just found the plotline kind of boring?? I loved the extra character and world lore. But I had problems with the original TotNT too so.
[dropped] Till the End of the Moon (cdrama) - ep 20/40
This was gorgeous but I like sweet romance, I'm sorry. This was too dramatic for even me. I wanted Bai Lu to love her problematic malewife!!
[dropped] Miss Night and Day (kdrama) - ep 2/16
Loved the concept, found the show too painful to watch.
____
anyway hoping to get back into kdramas this fall or in 2025. we'll see!!

15 Day BL Challenge- Day 5
Biggest Flop- I Actually Can't Decide
[Original Challenge Here]
In my definition of flop, it means that the show did not match, let alone exceed, the expectations I had set for it by a huge margin.
When it comes to what I watch, maybe its because I am pretty good at filtering out things that don't match my vibe or maybe I just haven't been here for all that long- but I haven't yet watched a show that hasn't given me what I expected from it by that much.
That being said, there have been shows that are so hyped by everyone, and i found myself never liking them as much as them.
That being said, i am not hating on these shows, and may change my opinion if feel like rewatching
Boss and A Babe: I love Force and Book as actors, and i do think they nailed their roles but the story was sooo weakly built and didn't know how to deal with the themes it touched on at all. The ASMR thing Cher did, which was the premise of this show in the first place wasn't touched beyond bringing them together in the beginning. Tyme's betrayal and the whole stealing of ideas wasn't given half the attention it should've gotten. The discussion of themes about depression, sexual abuse, and homophobia were touched upon in the most speed run way of things, giving nothing enough importance to actually become centric to the story. The couple themselves were okay, and the chemistry was there only because Force and Book had it, but honestly they became borderline weird. I didn't find this series worth remembering, but when i started it, i didn't think i would either.
Love In The Air (but only the PhayuRain episodes): Look. Before anybody comes for me, hear me out. These two have great irl chemistry, and im excited for Boy Next World... but Phayu and Rain are ragingggg red flags and its to the point where I do not care that they can cancel each other out. I just don't. You don't fuck with your crushes car just so they'll ask you for help when they get stuck in the rain. You don't play with consent like that unless you've both pre-agreed to it. Please do not pull the stunts these two decided were okay without a word with each other. Even if you're both into it. CONSENT MATTERS AND DO NOT DAMAGE OTHER PEOPLE'S POSSESSIONS JUST TO HAVE THEM PAY ATTENTION TO YOU. COMMUNICATION EXISTS FOR BOTH OF THOSE.
That being said, Prapai and Sky managed to make it through my criteria and I love them dearly. Just can't ever say the same for Phayu and Rain.
2gether (but not Still 2gether): I can hear my girlfriend fuming as I type this because this is one of her all time favourite shows. And I can agree with what she says, its about the nostalgia of early BL days and the sorta funny jokes that make you roll your eyes but still laugh. That being said, the first season is riddled with the fact that the premise makes zero sense, the bromantic chemistry is questionable at best and the raging question that how the fuck is Tine gonna become a lawyer when he can't even defend himself from a dude hitting on him??
This show definitely does not live up to the name it carries being the most popular Thai BL, but it is not the worst. It is what it is according to the time it was made in, and the second season is actually cute. And of it gave me Drake and Frank, with whom I'm obsessed despite the tragedy.
Middleman's Love: Respectfully- GET A FUCKING GRIP OVER REALITY AND A CONTROL OVER YOUR VOLUME. That's all I have to say here.

what are some of the best bl's you think released this year?
hi!! so far i think this year has been good with bl's but i think these few are the ones that i think stand out the most.
currently airing
my personal weatherman
this one came as a shock to me. i haven't been keeping up well with mbs' bls, given that "eternal yesterday" scarred me for life. but knowing the original source, i saw the announcement of them doing this and thought, you know what, maybe it won't be so bad. it won't. and i got shocked at how much i love the actors, the setting, and the characters. i loved this series so much that my tiktok fyp page was filled with one of the actor's cute tiktok dances, and i guess that's just the algorithm for me.
kiseki: dear to me
you can already tell from the amount of gifsets i make that i love this bl. initially, i only watched because i know that my favorite bl scriptwriter, lin pei yu, who i've been a fan of since her first bl, was in charge of the series. but as it went on, i was begging for more because of how much the actors, the plot, the characters, and the setting draw me in. it will honestly become one of my most favorites after it finishes airing. the whole thing just gives off that history-trapped vibe that i've been yearning for in taiwanese bl for so long.
i feel you linger in the air
having read the original novel (go buy and read it. it's amazing), i was expecting this one to be just fine. now that a few episodes have been aired, i'm aware that they did some cutting from the novel to fit the lakorn-style series. still, the quality, acting, and chemistry are so good. i wasn't confident at first since it was directed by tee, but then again, you can't always judge a director from their other few series. especially since this one deals with heavy themes of identity, culture-bound issues, and history. so far so good. i think this might be a standout bl for this quarter.
completed
our dating sim
one of the hit bl's that i personally wasn't a fan of at first, but then i saw how good their chemistry was and how well thought out the plot was. i was also shocked that even the actors themselves didn't expect this series to blow up because it was great from start to finish. one of my favorite scenes this year is that one scene where kitae had an emotional breakdown in front of wan.
sing my crush
this one surprised me the most. having released all their episodes in one day, i was shocked at how long they've kept this from us. it was filmed during the start of the pandemic, and it was only given to us this year. such an amazing drama series.
though one of the reasons why i found this amazing was watching it when i was sick, so i guess that contributed to it.
unintentional love story
what i loved about this series is the length and character progression. it just goes to show that k-bl's have the potential to become full-length in the future.
moonlight chicken
another masterpiece made with love. i think there's not much i can say about this series other than it's one of those classic bl's. i recently recommended this to a friend for their first bl, and they loved it and became a fan instantly.
jun & jun
a bit controversial, but i think my own perception of this series was different than everyone else's. what i love about the series is its outstanding chemistry, easy-to-consume plot, and actors' visuals.
to me, this bl feels like thailand's first step in making korean bl. let me explain. one of the reasons why this series has some hint of thai production in it is because of the presence of high heat among the main characters.
now, a lot of people complain about the quality, but to me, it's fine. it's fine because it's not a series that's meant to be taken seriously, and it's also nonsensical for the sake of easy consumption among viewers. though i gotta say that the actors have great potential to be in other bl's as well.

Jack&Joker - U steal my heart!
One of the most popular Thai BL cps, Yinwar, are back with a heist themed BL after a long hiatus since Love mechanics.
*taps mic*
I refuse to spiral into insanity all by myself, so here is a thread of theories or rather poorly made assumptions regarding the characters and plot.
#1 Joker and Lupin
You know what Joker reminds me of, or rather who? Arséne Lupin.
Arséne Lupin AKA the 'Gentleman Burglar' is a French fictional book character,
There is a French live action drama on Netflix called 'Lupin' where a guy named Assane Diop, a long standing fan of the books, imitates Lupin to avenge his father's death.
Now, why am I mentioning Lupin out of nowhere? I remember binge watching the live action and wishing that one day we would have a BL with a similiar theme. The BL gods heard me lol. Joker, seems to be very similiar to Lupin/Assane. He is cocky, witty, bitchy, sassy and chaotically evil yet cares and loves beyond one may speculate.
And If Joker is our queer Lupin,
Tattoo is our Benjamin,
Benjamin used to replicate intricately made precious jewels/jwelery which helped Assane to rob the original and replace with the cloned item which looked indifferent to the human eye.
If that's that, if tattoo makes shit which gets used during heists, then maybe he was the one to create the gas which puts everyone to sleep. Literally anyone can argue that it could have been chloroform, something that's easy to access. BUT, considering the amount of 'chloroform' which flowed through the ventilators, people would have been dead. Atleast Anan. That shit results in muscle breakdown and can put people in coma.
And if we have the Assane, the benjamin, do we also have the Ganimard?
#2 Cards and Ganimard
Cards play an important role in the world of Joker, it's everywhere,
In his description
on the loan papers
It's his signature, of course.
But you know who else has a card related description?
Yes
Jack has what we call the "ace of spades"...
Now this is where this gets interesting,
If the joker is the 'harlequin' which symbolises chaos, unpredictability, wit and intelligence; who exactly what Joker is, The Lupin, then Jack is THE ace of spades, which symbolises intellectual power or spiritual growth BUT carry the reputation of being the 'Death Card' popularised during the Vietnam War. It's a die or domino with a single pip.
And If Jack is the 'ace', he can be the queer Ganimard,
This makes me think, either Jack will be the hindrance or guidance, maybe both.
It could be that, the only history Jack and Joker share is Jack getting conned by joker. IF joker did scam Jack on the 'superhuman project' which was assumbly his dream project yet Jack helps him, then he can be called inhumanely loyal and hopelessly in love.
"You are still kind and haven't changed"
And if Jack can cooperate with Joker so well (the whole fight scene against the guards), he would be the only one to know how Joker works or atleast have an idea. And If that's what it is, he would either directly join the heist by pretending to stop it and Joker, or he is actually going to do it 'cause, he is the "death card"
He is either with you, or against you.
The vibe till now seem very contrasting to Partners in Crime, while the later was more like a social commentry where two lovers rob the exploited, the rich. But this one is more like a cold witty thief who finds an extremely loyal admirer and falls for him BUT this could turn into a love story with betrayal. This show either is going to be chill, cool and quirky and little bit angsty OR extremely twisted and angsty. Let's see.

Top 6 Most Anticipated [Confirmed] BLs of 2023 (so far)!
If I can speculate...I'd add something something Semantic Error 2, something something Bump Up Business, but I'm tired of looking stupid. DMD had me placing Bed Friend as a most anticipated BL for damn near two years now and stayed coming up short. This time, I'm sticking to what I know. So, here we are--my top 6 most anticipated BLs of 2023 (thus far)! -
6) HIStory5: Love in the Future | LinusSean & JasonAnson
youtube
lbr, this is a 2023 bl trapped in a 2022 bl's body. Either way, I love a good time travel theme (gives fish out of water--my favorite trope!!) and the HIStory series usually gives us a good main couple.
5) Love Upon a Time | NetJames
youtube
Either DMD really believes in NetJames or they feel bad for cucking them in favor of ZeeNunew this past year. Either way, I am somewhat seated for this. Wild, I never expected this from NetJames or DMD more generally, but the historical portion of the story is giving everything I've been begging for from Thailand since I started watching BL. While it's not giving MileApo's period piece trailer in terms of care and attention to detail, it seems very interesting to say the least.
4) Bed Friend | NetJames
youtube
After 2 years of blue balling viewers, DMD is FINALLY giving the girls Bed Friend. I am so excited to see an office romance with actual tension between the leads and that forbidden love vibe I love so much. The story is so classic and seems entertaining from beginning-to-end. Hopefully the writing is good and the acting takes a step forward from what DMD has given so far. That said, the trailer looks promising, so fingers crossed!
3) The Next Prince (....what? It gave budget....) | ZeeNunew
youtube
Listen, I am not a zonzon or bonbon or ztormborn or whatever they call ZeeNunew stans, but I am SEATED for this. In my last list, I included Cutie Pie in my most anticipated list. Unfortunately, it didn't hit like I thought it would. But I'm willing to give them another chance as this trailer is intriguing. They're hitting budget, royalty AU, enemies (??) to lovers, direction, cinematography, etc. with this one. And the fact that the trailer was mostly silent gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, they will take the show-don't-tell subtext-led approach to acting and writing. Just hope it's not wasted on a terrible plot that goes nowhere and grating acting. S/n: Zee doing stuff w/feet again??
2) Cherry Magic (Thailand) (stfu GMMTV antis and jbl elitists, I'm tryna see sth...) | TayNew
She has no trailer and I'm already here for her.
Per MDL -
Adapted from Japan's 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii. Adachi Kiyoshi [Achi in the Thai version] is a regular salaryman who, at the age of 29, was still a virgin. On his 30th birthday, he suddenly finds himself acquiring a new power - the ability to read other people's minds whenever he touches them. Shocked and unnerved by this new ability, he struggles to cope. That is, until one day he accidentally touches the handsome and popular fellow office-worker, Kurosawa Yuichi [Karan in the Thai version], only to find out that [Karan] actually has secret romantic feelings for him. How will [Achi] cope with this new revelation?
Look, I tried the original Cherry Magic and while the concept was appealing, the execution wasn't for me. Ngl chefs, I was bored a bit. But I still love the concept and am interested to see if and how GMMTV and Taynew can handle this. It better give budget at the very least (probably won't lol). Perhaps we'll also see Newwie grow into a more serious BL role. But honestly, even if they turn it into a rom-com, I think this can really work. Either way, they have a lot of eyes on them and a lot of folks predicting their downfall. They must deliver.
1) Only Friends | NeoMark, ForceBook, FirstKhao, ForceNeo, to say the least
youtube
Where do I even start with this? Who in the fresh hell could have predicted GMMTV to come through with this? ALL the pairings are intriguing, MANY of the actors can ACT (or at least try to), THE PLOT is something straight out of my romance dreams!!! We love hotties being messy!!!! I am incoherent at this. How did GMMTV manage to outplay the player (ME)?
But to be serious, this is the most interesting BL plot in awhile... And it gets at a real part of the 20/30-something hookup culture that we have (and that people are afraid to show in the context of LGBTQ+ relationships). It's also breaking the mold and allowing actors to explore characters outside of their established ships. It's not adapted from anything (that I know of), which is, like, a first for a GMMTV BL. It includes pairings that are either on the rise (FirstKhao) or that no one could have ever seen coming but somehow feel just right (NeoMark, ForceNeo) (btw, NeoMark are up next in this industry ;)). Plus, it's directed by Jojo Tichakorn who directed and wrote for 3WBF (one of my favorite Thai dramas with a strong BL theme), and has his hands in Never Let Me Go and The Warp Effect (both with strong showings thus far). I trust him but it's gonna really come down to the budget, post-production, and, most importantly, the acting.
Thing is, Neo and First are going to show up and I trust Khao to give a strong effort. Force, I'm not too sure about but the trailer doesn't give me high hopes to be honest. Still, I'm willing to forgive if he can fuck Neo like he means it if the rest of the cast can pull their own weight. And for Mark, I'm willing to bet he'll improve from My School President (which he already is showing promise in). I'm mainly weary because the story looks to be told from Mew's perspective, who is played by Book. IMO Book is not the best....so I'm hoping he shows up. I just need it to really come together and Book holds the key to it in his hands. GMMTV already is a sketchy company for other reasons, don't waste my fucking time with yet another good concept gone by the wayside b/c y'all wanted face over talent.
Also NeoMark please don't be problematic. I want to love Badminton shawty and the best actor at GMMTV not named Gun ATP 😢

I feel like some show recs, so:
Thai BL worth checking out if you feel like?
Not Me the Series: a bunch of political activists become vigilantes, a twin replaces his brother to try and find out who put said brother in a coma, they fight a mega rich man, they get boyfriends
Never Let Me Go: rich boy with a batman esque origin story loses his dad, is set to take over company and his mom hires a boy his age to bodyguard him, then the both of them end up on the run (and falling in love). If you actually want a drama with a character who's genuinely working class with acknowledgement of status differences, of realistically portrayed differences in privilege and the enviornment, this one is for you. I'm a sucker for that dynamic so I was happy to find it here. This one also treats its world very realistically, with high schoolers that feel like real ones not "softened up for tv comedy." Also chimon is a side character, and I just love every role he does (side note: not bl but I cannot recommend The Gifted and The Gifted Graduation enough). If you can see a theme of action-romance here? You're right.
3 Will Be Free: still iconic, a hooker, a thief, and a mob boss's son end up on the run after an accidental death. Endgame polyamorous relationship, a lot of murder and action on the way there. There's also a side trio I'm very soft about but that one doesn't get a happy ending, only the main trio does. This is very character focused and I loved it.
Theory of Love: NOT my usual thing, this is older vibe Thai bl with much less physical touch then later dramas you will have seen. But it's so unique in a few ways its worth mentioning. It's a homage to SO many romance movies (like 10 Things I Hate About You), has a realistic bi side ship (in the sense this boy in college reminds me of me and friends and I appreciate his story), and the main relationship could even have Not been a romance and it'd still be meaningful to me (but it is very much a romance). Angst romance, a guy is in love with his best friend but his best friends a player who goes to him emotionally when single then immediately ignores him when dating yet another girl. Eventually guy decides to confess, then to move on because he's been treated like shit. And then the show perspective shifts to follow the best friend, who's desperate to make amends and get his best friend back again (and who's realized he loves him). It has a lot of beats that will remind you of the romance movies it references, it has very relatable friendship stories outside the romance angle, and while it uses some "fluff romance" tropes it does it in such a heartbreaking fuck-you-up make you cry way that it's nothing like the usual fluff show. The story developments feel earned. It was probably the first Thai bl that really clicked with me and if you've ever loved a friend (or had a toxic friendship honestly) it will stab you in the heart but also give you an earned happy ending.
Bad Buddy: also not my usual show type BUT if you want fluff tropes, happy ending, typical fall in love in college story? This is the first one I'm recommending. The two leads are wonderful together, and amazing actors in their own right, so it's fun watching just for their acting if for no other reason. The show both utilizes tropes you'll see widespread in Thai fluff romance but also does some new things with them, breaking the mold, and I think since Bad Buddy a lot more Thai dramas have also broken the mold and used these tropes more varied and for different effects so that's awesome. If you're used to stuff like Heartstopper? This will be a Great entry point for you into Thai bl, a great show period for you. It features mainly a romeo/juliet type story but it's also about the legacy parents put on you and that's probably the heaviest emotional bits of the story. Girl/girl side couple which is also cute.
The Eclipse: a high school that again feels a little more grounded in realism rather than "softened up for comedy." It also has queer characters that actually act femme at times and not conventionally straight guy masculine expectations (which in TV period is nice to see), features explicit mention of gay safe spaces (oh Cafe my beloved) and mentors, and general political activism for students and their freedoms (which is the focus point and wonderful to see). Someone goes missing/possibly dies, and the guy who knew him transfers to a school to investigate. His love interest is the leader of the disciplinary group of said school, trying to investigate him back. There's also again student protestors trying to advocate, and the disciplinary group being used by the adults in power to try and stifle said protests. If you liked The Gifted, this has similar vibes but without powers and with a large portion queer main characters.
Special mention, Thai gl:
GAP the Series: I haven't finished watching it, but from the eps I have seen it deserves a rec. It's acted by 2 women I suspect will continue doing interesting roles, they were in Secret Crush on You before this, and that show also aimed at a very "queer lens" experience with a story that felt more like it was made for queer people than rather about them. GAP lives up to that as well, delivering both all the gl tropes I imagine and wish we got (which is so cool to see! It's nice being indulged!) While also writing characters who are fully realized and have their own internal struggles and arcs, the plot deciding to approach its "business romance" setting with a seriousness about the actual reality of people's lives and problems in this world. The writing doesn't bend to match the romance tropes, it instead adds the romance tropes to a solid story itself. Making it very satisfying to watch if you love character arcs like me. It feels like a mix of drama slice of life, combined with romance novel indulgence I've been craving in a show about women in love with women. So sort of like History 3 Trapped tone. If you want a gl drama, this is a solid place to start.
Special mention, dark fantasy:
Midnight Museum: it just started airing recently, ep 4 just finished. I'll let you know if it turns out queer. For now, its a really fun unique experience. It reminds me of Guardian and Hotel Del Luna, but a little scarier than both while a little Less scary than Girl From Nowhere (a Thai horror drama I highly recommend). It's got all I could ask for: gratuitously guest starts in horror mystery style plots where cursed artifacts cause messes, a man with no memory of his past who can control dark forces for some reason and maybe time traveled, another man who's Immortal and knows man 1 from somewhere but won't say and is desperate to keep man 1 alive, a woman who may or may not be a ghost with ghostly powers and a healed heart played by Namtan (she's also amazing in The Player), a cop and the immortals assistant who clearly are in love and are a great side duo on their own for mystery solving, all combining into a Scooby gang running into murder scenario bullshit trying to get the artifacts back while also trying to figure out what's the deal with their memory-loss man.
#rec list#shows#thai dramas#bl dramas#other honorable mentions: my dear loser has nanon and chimon and i loved their acting and the grounded storytelling#chimon is in a bl romance in that and he always shines#Hes Coming To Me: featuring Om and Singto its a supernatural romance between ghost and human and very optimistic despite its premise

Cherry Magic Thai Remake
I can understand skeptical people, but I've seen a lot of people saying they aren't interested because they know that TayNew won't be able to bring the same vibes as the OG Japanese version, and many have been pretty rude about it. I have limited experience with TayNew, but they've been acting for a long time, and are talented. I can't say they would be able to create the same feeling as the original, but I do think they have the ability to create something that's good. One of the things that's kind of fun about these remakes is you do get to see some different takes.
I love the Cherry Magic movie, there's a very beautiful story and energy throughout. It made me want to cry almost immediately, and that's due to the skill of the actors. tbh. But I do think it's a disservice to other actors to say "why bother, you can't do as well, we don't want this." It's purposely hurtful, but also untrue.
Like when I think about actors that I've seen portray different 'versions' of characters, I can't really think of many that just did flat out bad jobs. Like...I did a quick search for examples that I recall.
Robin Hood (this is JUST live-action film, there's animated and TV versions of him too.
Sherlock Holmes (again ONLY film, not television, which includes some pretty iconic interpretations of the character).
You have Merlin (King Arthur has a pretty wide range of film media too)
And here we have a list of well-known actors who have portayed Juliet Capulet
And I'll stop here with Fitzwilliam Darcy (or what is meant to be an approximation of him). I did have to include Television here because in fairness, some of the most iconic portrayals of Mr. Darcy are from miniseries.
Now, have I seen every piece of media on these lists? No. But I have seen at least 4 different versions of these characters, more for some. And of what I have seen I would never argue that one actor embodies the TRUE ESSENCE of the character. They all bring something unique to the story, because they all have different life experiences.
I really do think that Tay and New can bring a version of Kiyoshi and Yuichi to life that will be just as heartwarming and sweet as the original film. It seems odd to write it off completely, even if you are basing your skepticism of it on previous roles. Because I'll be honest with you...watching Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman changed the way I saw his interpretation of Edward Cullen.
I also see some mentions that Thai BL's just can't bring that sweetness, but honestly, I think we get that sweetness regularly, it's just sort of split up with other things because these are often series, not films, and so the story is built out with other things. But just thinking of the BL's I've watched in the last few months, I can pick out exact scenes that really brought a similar feeling to my heart as the Cherry Magic movie.
But I guess I'll stop ranting... but please remember to be kind. Also, we didn't even get a trailer for this film, only what is almost a character poster, which is next to nothing really, in terms of relating what the final product will be.
#CherryMagicTH#GMMTV#TayNew#Y'all can be uninterested#you can be skeptical#you don't have to be rude or mean

Can I say. I’m just happy that someone else feels the same as I do about the Japanese LITA. Cause I thought I was going crazy. Everyone was hyping it up as better than the Thai version. And I’m like.
Are we watching the same show?
My biggest negative of the shorter run time. Is we get less of the scenes we got in the original of showing how absolutely smitten Phayu is with Rain already. Boy is down bad from basically the second he meets him. Though I can tell Arashi likes Rei. It’s less like. Overwhelmingly fond. Like Phayu is.
But it’s only episode 2. So maybe we get more later?
Omg yes I'm glad it's not just me either! I do generally like Thai bls more than Korea or Japan but the shorter run time is definitely not doing the characters any favors. Not just with Rei and Arashi but the side characters too. Rain and Sky's friendship from the og is one of my favorite elements and that's getting short changed too. I know some people like the shorter run time because it makes the story "tighter" but for me the nuance is gone. The vibes are not vibing for me personally. It's fine? Would I like it more if it was doing its own thing? Probably. It is only episode 2 and I may like it more as it goes on but right now...I'm meh about it.
#sorry i started to reply yesterday and then well...#sorry but LITA is my favorite bl and this is just a pale imitation so far

Release Date: June 7, 2024
One of my all time favorite GMMTV ships GEMINI-FOURTH are back with a Thai Adaptation of Kieta Hatsukoi a Japanese BL that stole my heart. The story of a simple mistake bringing love to 2 Boys. I love GEMINI-FOURTH so much however I will not be watching because I hate GMMTV Adaptations. I really wanted to see their version of Cherry Magic but copyright issues stepped in. So I'll always only love Kurosawa and Adachi (live action & anime) from Japan only.

Title: THE LAST TIME
