Ta-da! My art for @pulpmusicalsfortnight2024's magic prompt! I really wanted to do some cool art of Ahlaam and I am super excited to learn more about her in episode 4. I know this isn't how the encounter goes in canon, but shhhhh let Rose have her emotional support bosun.

A friend dragged us into Pulp Musicals hell and I might or might not have listened to it all like perhaps 5 times today 😳😁 anyway here's a lil Samuel and Mags from the scene of "On The Roof" !!

Oh my GOD Matt Dahan you are such a fucking genius because the eerie silence at the end of ‘Gunpowder and Rum, Part 1’ after Rose’s “Samuel? Who are you talking to?” where it’s just the silence of the waves and the ship? And then the eerie music tone???? I can SEE IN MY BRAIN the absolute panic that would go onto Samuel’s face as he turns back to Kal with furrowed brows at first, confused by Rose’s question, only for Kal to not be there and then Samuel to just… scramble, looking around the deck, his head violently swinging from side to side as Rose grows more concerned and the sea raged in its silent but never silent way around them before it launches into the start of ‘The Conversation’. Like MY GOD it’s just so magnificent. Like he could’ve just… launched into the next song. But he lets Samuel and Rose and US THE AUDIENCE linger in that moment, that panic and realization of “Oh fuck.” And it’s just so so chef’s kiss. Each episode of Pulp Musicals is truly an experience and I am so far thoroughly enjoying my first listen of The Ghosts of Antikythera.

Genders in Rra

SO... Pridemonth, huh

I said that tribes have two morphs and mentioned that i want to make three genders.

SO once again let's gather what we have!

They all are biologically have reproductive systems of both males and females.

They have two types of appearance - two morphs - the g(h)aarrota and matsata (that were mistaken by early human-scientists for male and female sexes and genders).

They have one common pronoun ta (somewhat equall to they/them, but it would be cool if i coud turn it into ta/tem as neopronoun).

Finally, they have three genders: s'(h)eena, nk'ema and seo(h)aa.

Nk'ema usually assigned to g(h)aarrota. They expected to be more active and strong physically, to be leaders among their groups, to be hunters and defencers, to be mothers.

Seo(h)aa usually assigned to matsata. They expected to be more skilled at crafts, arts and weather-reading and to love children.

S'(h)eena is rarely assigned at birth. S'(h)eena is the gender of ancients from legends, of tamo (spirits) and dagi (protector-spirits). S'(h)eena can be assigned to elders and some chiefs or shamans. They expected to be wise, to be spiritual leaders, to be different and maybe outstanding.

Probably there are also terms like nk'emagee and seo(h)aagee, that would be the equivalents of transgenders, but i don't think it will be used too often.

Exploring it further i think there is also word tgoa (still thinking about it, but it probably came from t ngodoa that means "in the head") that is the closest thing to non-binary (non-trinary in that case i think).

I’m doing this for The gift of ashes, because in To curse an angel the names are made up… For Tgoa all names are words taken from the Esperanto language, and are meant to act as nomen-omen, representing their core qualities.

Sunon: it means Sun. It’s the name given to her by the mortals, and one she rarely uses.

Scio: it means Knowledge, hinting at her past as Moon, who was the keeper of knowledge, science and the arts.

Defío: it means defiant. He is a rebel at his core, after all.

Klara: it means clear, taken in the sense of literary fame.

Milda: it means mild. He is kind and level-headed.

Koro: it means heart. They are empathetic and passionate.

Amo: it means love. For the love of her parents and siblings.
