i dont think bdubs is a woman i do think etho is but bdubs doesnt know etho is a woman bc he has negative 10 points in gender radar (stat you can have) and etho has no interest in medically transitioning at all so bdubs decides he needs to become a woman and well its not that hes homophobic he just thinks hes straight (hes not) so hes decided the only way he can be with etho is if one of them is a woman but he doesnt wanna ask etho to be the woman and when he starts presenting femininely cleo cracks a joke about etho and bdubs being lesbians now and bdubs is like ? i think witch of doom fits grian really well. the idea of grian being tied to the idea of fate, futility & rules. especially seen recently in lim life with the multiple boogeys, the relation to him being admin/a watcher/however u choose to interpret, and with the /kill of scott. i think heir of doom is decent for grian as well, but the idea of the manipulation of rules is so poignant for grian's character that i just cant resist it!

witches are also (speculated) to be the active class counterpart of heirs, so it makes sense that grian is an heir contender. an active class is self serving, and grian's character is NOTORIOUSLY self serving. even in moments where he is at his most altruistic, he often gets caught up in the bit, or focuses too narrowly on his own preservation. this doesnt mean he cant be generous of course, and its all in good fun, but he has a selfish streak in him that makes him a compelling characters in last life ("we can still be friends!") and double life (his secret soulmate).

grian is also a victim of fate, the kill your closest ally curse ofc. and he frequently breaks the rules (3l triple kill springs to mind!) i think plenty of people would jump to paint him as a seer (and claspecting is not immune to the pull of aesthetics and irony) but the idea of a witch, one who manipulates their aspect, is so apt for grian, who is the textbook example of a character who lies to the audience.

so thieves in homestuck get a bit of a bad rep. the two canon thieves are vriska and meenah so you can see why. but narratively it's hard not to (especially in 3l, double life, and now in lim life) to see scar's role as anything but a con-man and an arsonist. his character is charismatic and lovable, but incredibly morally bereft (to humorous effect, of course!) he fits active classes all too well, and thief is a shoe in for him.

initially i'm drawn to life for scar because doom and life are opposite aspects. but reading this meta paragraph made me lock in my decision.

life is healing in homestuck, and if we look at jane and feferi it's easy to say "well thats not scar really!" but the idea that life players often put others' needs above their own brings to mind the idea of the end of 3rd life ("you can slay me") and in double life ("theyre for your secret soulmate"). scar is a scammer, sure, and he will rob you blind, but he's also deathly loyal.

also, the canon example for thief of life is meenah/the condesce so. make of that what you will

i'm trying to find a way to phrase this gently but i think the reality of the situation is that martyn is bisexual but he's married with kids so he doesn't have time for all that. meanwhile rendog's bisexuality haunts him like a fucking angry spectre like i think he has nightmares about kissing martyn that leave him jolting up in bed at night drenched in sweat and then he experiences such a profound guilt about it that he has to go for a walk and i think it probably doesnt help because he lives alone and he tells himself he prefers it this way but the whole time he's walking he cannot stop getting flashes of the dream and he says fuck it and he opens discord to draft a text to martyn and it never gets past a "Hey!" because the weight of the fact that martyn is asleep in bed with his wife right now bears down on him. and then martyn gets on stream and cracks a few jokes about treebark bait and meanwhile ren is looking at the grindr app he downloaded and never opened

in last life joel grian and scar do have a polycule going on but its clear that joel is there to facilitate some weird sex thing between scar and grian who really would honestly be better off just beating each other to death with rocks. this is fine with joel because him and lizzie are experimenting with being in toxic relationships for fun.
