i read the whole textbook section and got all my quiz questions wrong. I tried to be engaged with the text and highlight sections and create flashcards and everything. Somehow I missed the mark entirely. I didn't retain much and it just reminded me why I hate textbook readings. I'm in my 4th year of college and I feel like I just need to give up hope 😭

i don’t just want a book about each hunger games, i want to know the entire history of panem: the fall of north america and how it became panem, how long they existed as a capitol and thirteen districts, what led to the dark days, how panem changed in the time between the 10th and 74th games, if they have contact with other countries, what happened to the other countries, how far into the future this is
the brilliance of suzanne collins is that she created such a rich world where i’m genuinely interested in any sort of story set within panem, not just in context of the games but their entire history books
#the hunger games#suzanne collins#panem#she could honestly write a full textbook about panem and i would read every word#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#coriolanus snow#lucy gray baird#the ballad of songbirds and snakes

Hi TG Fandom!
I love thinking about an AU where: Pete Mitchell is eight years old and used to being bounced around from foster home to orphanage to group home to foster home. An eight-year-old Pete who is scrappy and world-savvy and angry, just imagine a Maverick before he's Maverick — all that Maverick-ness balled up in this pint-sized Pillsbury biscuit can of whoop-ass. He runs the show wherever he goes with his loud mouth and sense of righteous fury.
But then there's this new boy at the group home, this chubby nine-year-old blond boy with broken glasses held together with duct-tape and a big sweater with patches that covers his hands and half his face. He doesn't talk and spends most of the day hiding in his bed or reading an old Chemistry textbook that he brought from wherever he came from. Pete doesn't get him, thinks he's weird and the fact that the boy always looks so scared makes his tummy feel squirmy.
So, he starts to sit next to Blondie, shares his food — basically the only thing of value he has, and starts talking, and talking, and talking and talking if only to fill up all the space that Blondie doesn't with his own words. Eventually, Blondie starts scooting closer to Pete, leans against him and starts to talk in a small whisper that only Pete can hear.
Blondie’s name is Tommy.
They grow up together in that group home, they bond to each other in a way they've never bonded to anyone else. They make plans to get out and join the Navy together one day, to fly; and they promise to never be apart or alone again.
Then Tommy gets adopted.
Pete cries; Tommy screams. They might be teenagers now but it takes three men to get them to pry their hands off of each other. Tommy gets carried down the hallway howling, hands outstretched, yelling louder than Pete’s ever heard him speak before. Suddenly, the world is meaner and colder than it has ever been before and all he has left of his Blondie is that same scuffed up Chemistry textbook and a pair of broken glasses.
Pete runs away that night, glasses in his pocket and that heavy book stuffed into his backpack, but he never finds Tommy again… he finds Nicky Bradshaw instead.
He starts to move on from the hope of ever seeing Tommy again… until Top Gun and Animal Night at the O Club, when Pete catches sight of the first boy he’s ever loved, hiding with shades on and a vodka glass in his hand, instead of a patchy sweater and a Chemistry textbook.
Pete’s still a pint-sized Pillsbury biscuit can of whoop-ass and the world has changed them both into new people…
But when Iceman comes at him with bravado and snapping teeth, stinking of the alcohol that used to scare him when he was Tommy, regaling Maverick with tales of a father who loved a bottle more than him…
Pete reaches up to slip a little boy’s pair of broken glasses onto the blond’s face with a gentle, “Hi, Blondie.”
And Iceman crumbles away, leaving a crying Tommy in his place.
“Pete.”
He still says it the same way, like he's saying home.

Cafe au where sqh is the owner of a bookcafe after he finally gets all the money he was owe in loyalties with the help of sy's lawyer. Now that he has a stable income, he comes to his cafe to write his novel.
Mbj is a regular at the cafe only because the cute boy is always working there. He's a director at Northern Desert Co. And is set to take over after his father. He started coming to Melon Seed and Read Cafe because it was the closest to the company.
They started talking one day after sqh spilled coffee on him, and the whole time, mbj was nitpicking things about the Cafe that could be improved and he gets pleasantly surprised when the things he complains about get fixed soon after. Similar sqh complains about the workers from northern desert being mean to the workers and other customers, then suddenly they came in to apologize for their behavior.
The reveal that mbj is the heir to Northern Desert and sqh is the bookcafe owner would be epic. Like Northern Desert wants to work with local stores, including sqhs, to advertise some of their product. Sqh goes to the meeting and sees mbj there. They both freeze and realize that they have been talking shit about the company/cafe to the owner. The meeting is awkward, but sqh accepts the deal after his lawyer reviews it.
Mbj stopped coming to the cafe, and sqh thinks that it was because of what he's been saying about Northern Desert. When he finally comes back, sqh avoided him because it's clearly what mbj wants. Until one day, mbj pretends to walk into sqh spilling his coffee on sqh.
Being the gentleman he is, mbj offers sqh a change of clothes, and his apartment isn't too far from here, so they can go get it. What do you think happened when sqh gets to his apartment? 😏

references for reading and studying the hebrew bible (named the old testament for some, the tanakh for others)—
biblegateway makes available most translations. ethical, responsible versions used in academia include the nrsvue (here with commentary) and the jps (here, on sefaria, with hebrew notations). software like accordance is helpful for those familiar with languages.

holding the narrative alongside introductory material is meaningful—here is a list of many, and here is the book assigned in most syllabi.
finally, oxford offers entries on heuristics and methods that might help move religious study further in meaning. here are recs for my method

one thing that has been stuck in my brain since I heard it is that marx is the most responded-to western social theorist of modernity. It’s not literally true in the sense that there are scholars who have more raw citations than he does but he became permanently unavoidable in all social scientific discussion after he came onto the scene. and even when he is intentionally avoided he’s still present. his absence is itself a presence in the text. a spectre haunting the academy one might say

[Fic Book Covers 11+12/?] Integrative Approaches by Nnm / @mouseonamoose
Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma
As soon as Aubrey Thyme, psychotherapist, had opened her office door and seen her new client, Anthony J. Crowley, sitting in her waiting area, she was observing and assessing him. At first glance, she paid attention to the following: --His clothing was expensive and stylish; --He wore very strange but noticeable cologne; --His relationship to the seat he occupied could only, very loosely, be described as “sitting;” --He looked angry; --He was wearing sunglasses. What Aubrey Thyme, a professional, thought, upon first seeing her new client was: you’re going to be a fun one, aren’t you?
Angel-Centered Therapy Through A Multicultural Lens
“I’d love to meet with you,” Davey said, apologetically, when he had been called up by a fellow looking to initiate therapy, “but I’m all booked up for months.” “Are you sure?” The fellow said, through a poor connection that crackled. Davey had been sure. And yet. Right there in his calendar was a blank spot, just a few days away, which he had somehow completely overlooked before. “How about that…I’ve got Wednesday at eleven, if you can make that work.” “What a miracle,” the fellow said, “that would be just the perfect time.”

for the reverse trope writing promts!!!
Instead of fake dating, everyone is convinced that you aren’t actually dating PLEASE
oh man, i think it works best as a crack au, like-
it starts when they're kids. that first time at the riverbank, when their brothers become enemies. They both have a sort of thought, staring eachother down. Something like, he's pretty. Then they clash blades, albeit briefly, and they think, he's strong.
So they go home. and Izuna, like the good kid he is, asks Tajima about it. If Madara still tried to kill that ugly senju guy, it wouldn't matter how he felt about him right? None of the other stuff mattered, as long as he always tried to kill him when a battle was called?
Tajima assumes this is izuna trying to be lenient to his older brother. It's obvious how devestated madara was over the loss of his friendship, clearly Izuna is just trying to wrap his head around the situation. So he agrees without argument or specification- yes, Izuna, so long as madara uses his full abilities to try and kill hashirama in battle, it's okay that he's got a lot of feelings about the boy.
Cool! Izuna says, and walks away, about to make an astounding number of decisions based off that response.
Tobirama, meanwhile, is having no such talks with butsuma or hashirama. Butsuma is mad that he didn't manage to kill izuna, and hashirama is mad that he tattled, so tobirama is not talking to anyone. he's spending a lot of his time on the outskirts of their territory to specifically avoid any talking, actually.
Which is why izuna is able to find him, and in the midst of their battle, lay out his arguement. Something akin to "Stop trying to kill me right now, save that for the official battles". Izuna's belief that his dad is fine with him dating Tobirama as long as they try to kill eachother during battle is nonsensical to Tobirama, but so are the Uchiha as a whole. and Izuna is pretty, and strong, and not even mad at him!
so they start dating. And they don't hide it.
Especially not Izuna. he's gotten permission, after all. So he runs around telling all the uchiha about his dates, and complimenting tobirama, and nobody thinks anything of it. Izuna apparently has lots of boyfriends out-clan; that's practical, no chance of pregnancy there! Izuna likes to make a lot of sarcastic comments about his lifelong rival's attractiveness and intelligence- insults the man certainly deserves. The idea he could be serious, or that those dates he's talking about are with Tobirama, never crosses anyone's mind.
Tobirama keeps his romance talk to conversations with Hashirama. Mostly it's him saying things like "you act like trying to kill madara is so difficult, as if i don't try and kill my beloved boyfriend every battle. get it together, loser." Hashirama, understandably, does not take it seriously. He assumes it's some bizarre argument tactic, not Tobirama's genuine situation.
Tobirama does succeed in stabbing Izuna to near-death like in canon; Hashirama, luckily, is able to save him; this nearly successful murder does nothing to dampen their relationship.
It takes them a little while to adjust to their new normal, with no murder attempts and only dating happening. eventually they start to talk about marriage. Everyone assumes they mean to other people. arranged marriages, perhaps, for the sake of their clans? Their big brothers hope they know they would never force them into something like that. matrimony can wait until they have a person they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with.
their claims that they already do go ignored. People start trying to date them- the marriage talks meant they're open to that, right? Wrong. They get treated as the unintentional attempt at mistressing/cuckolding they are, with a door slammed in their face.
eventually tobirama and izuna give up on anybody accepting their relationship (They sent out invitations to their wedding, which were treated as a ridiculous prank). they get married quietly and spend the rest of their lives living together, which everyone around them mourns as tragic lifelong bachelorhood. they must've been so marred by war that they never found place for romantic love in their hearts, how sad :( their shared grave goes unquestioned. tobirama was all about good finances for the village, it was probably a matter of practicality.
#sakura ships them when reading her konoha history textbook and everybody thinks shes crazy for it#tobiizu

Ooh, what's this ineffable biology poster 👀??
As a biology student, mythology nerd, and big GO fan, I had to apply my extensive bird knowledge to the Ineffables, because it hit me: Aziraphale is such a mourning dove, and Crowley is definitely a black woodpecker. Hear me out!
Mourning doves are gentle and resilient birds that symbolize peace, hope, and enduring love:
In Native American traditions (especially among the Plains and Navajo), their cooing is heard as a prayer to the spirit world and a voice encouraging harmony among people.
In Mexican folklore, they guide the souls of the departed to rest.
Early Christian settlers in America also saw the mourning dove as a symbol of divine peace.
Bonus: Mourning doves looove eating, and they're little peacemakers who stay calm and rarely take the bait for a fight.
The black woodpecker, in myths and folklore, symbolizes death, transformation, and untamed nature:
In Slavic traditions, they guard the gate to the underworld.
In Norse myth, black-winged birds are said to drill into Yggdrasil (the World Tree), letting the forces of destiny seep into the world.
Since they live in dead trees, they symbolize how even decay can lead to new life.
Bonus: In some Norse folklore, the black woodpecker is a wild, untamed bird that can summon thunderstorms with its drumming. It. Can. Summon. Thunderstorms!
Excuse my long rant, and please have some sketches tihi

I'm getting whumperflies from my textbook's chapter on behaviorism. The cold, calculated way it talks about behaviors completely separate from the person doing them and the emphasis on reinforcement and punishment are just so very whumpy. Generally it uses attention as an example of reinforcement, which leads to stuff like "it's effective to avoid eye contact and conversation while restraining a patient so that misbehaving isn't unintentionally reinforced through attention." Like that's one of the whumpiest things I've ever read and it's in a psychology textbook. Imagine a whumper just completely ceasing any eye contact or conversation while Whumpee is being punished because attention is a reinforcer
Behaviorism is so fucked up
#i don't think the textbook is trying to say behaviorism is#like#good#it's just describing the methodology and will probably only get to the criticisms at the end of the chapter#and it's not like behaviorist principles can never be useful#but pure behaviorism is just cruelty behind a mask of 'helping'#which is very whumpy#oh i should probably tag this as like#medical abuse tw#medical whump#it's fun because I knew ABA was fucked up#and reading this chapter I'm like 'oh! it's not just ABA! It's all behaviorism that's fucked up!'#some of this stuff is worded so similarly to my short with Jane explaining conditioning that it's funny#like I was purposefully trying to explain conditioning from the perspective of a sadist and it reads...#exactly the same as a professional perspective

Ilona Herr, Artyom Anoufriev's friend: "Artyom talked like a confident and quite intelligent person. He had a great sense of humor and an indescribable manner of talking. I didn't talk to Nikita, but he looked pretty inadequate." Anonymous girl who had known Artyom since childhood: "We've known each other since kindergarten. He was a quiet, very nice boy, it was interesting to communicate with him. A calm, well adjusted, attentive conversationalist. I kind of wanted to talk to him more than we did. It's hard to believe that a person whom I sincerely respected and even admired at some points, and whom I really wanted to make friends with, could do such a thing on his own, for some reason of his own. I'm sure he was pressured, brainwashed, I don't know, even to the point of clouding his mind with something, but I don't believe and don't want to believe that he could have signed up for such a thing himself from the beginning."

Maybe tmi but.
Mel means so much to me.
When I was a teenager (an obviously neurodivergent one at that, but undiagnosed at the time), I really wanted to go into healthcare. People close to me were quite discouraging - said that I am too sensitive, that the medical field will crash me. Soon enough, I started thinking that, too. After all, I, like Mel, tend to have a strong emotional reaction to things going awry. I get overwhelmed a lot. What kind of a provider would that make me?
Then there’s Mel.
To see such highly competent, emphatic character on screen, who still has those traits, still gets overwhelmed and cries and then gets back into the game…
It means a lot.
