GTAC formed in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit for the purpose of developing a creative arts community, classes and workshops, performance art, gallery shows and exhibits, mobile art trailer, participation in local arts and festival events, and other locations from Dallas, TX to Las Cruces, New Mexico and other regional locations. Jean Roelke, a faculty member in the English Department at UNT, and Heidi Rushing, at the time a recent graduate of Austin College and a member of the Art Department, worked with local attorney and businessman Gene Roelke to form the legal and operating entity. Where was Ghost Town originally located? GTAC was originally located at 1417 and 691 in a retail development owned by the Roelke family. The appearance of the location was the inspiration for the Ghost Town name. GTAC had several gallery shows, performance art, improv theater performances, social gatherings, poetry readings, musical performance and other creative events for several years. Jean purchased the trailer for the mobile art projects and the gallery location was closed. How did GTAC decide to collaborate with Ideation Station Jean contacted Ruth Williamson at Ideation Station about using the coworking space and conference room for creativity workshops. Ruth not only said yes, but called together a group of women considering starting small businesses and community programs to collaborate on developing the concept.
