I had been wanting to stay at this hotel forever because they have a lazy river in the shape of the state of Texas and it’s walking distance from a lot of places that we love in downtown Houston…

I am back in Texas this week to Open the RI, Houston Tomball (HOUTM).  Tomball is about 30 minutes outside of Houston.  Surprisingly, there are lots of great food options and everything you could need.  The opening was smooth and I got to meet Joe K. a new FOSSE trainer. Tiffany the opening manager, Joe and I went out to eat at a great local spot called Bonfire Grill with a small menu but everything was fantastic, especially the home made sangria.  The restaurant is in an old service station and I would have driven right past if they didn’t tell me to look for the shaved ice stand out front.  The sign for it is tiny and it looks like, well, like an old service station.  The food was great as was the service and local vibe.

The next day I had finished up, as had Joe, so we decided to explore a little.  We headed into Houston to see the Marriott Marquis. They have an amazing resort style 6th floor pool/bar deck.  Complete with a Texas shaped lazy river.  We took the elevator to the 23rd floor to get a better view.  I would love to spend a week here relaxing in the lazy river and having a few drinks. 

After our quick tour, we headed out into Houston to find a good spot for lunch.  We ended up walking about a mile to a place called Local Foods.  They had a bunch of unique sandwiches and healthy side options like homemade dill pickles, quinoa salad, couscous, tabouli, kale salad  etc.  I had the sandwich called MILTON’S - which consisted of HEBREW NATIONAL BEEF SALAMI, SHARP CHEDDAR, CRISPY ONIONS, PICKLE AIOLI, FARM EGG, and CHALLAH TEXAS TOAST.  It was very fresh and unique.  Not my favorite sandwich but I like finding a place that doesn’t serve the same old burger or club sandwich.

Except for the bumper to bumper traffic heading back out of the city, it was a fun outing to explore the city.  It was a good way to bond with Joe too.

The next morning I found a great spot for breakfast and coffee called Cafe Marrese.  The coffee here is fantastic.  I had the almond latte and it was delicious!  I also had the Morning Wrap - Spinach, Peppers, Avocado, Tomato, Swiss, 3 eggs, chipotle sauce, in a spinach wrap with salsa.  It was the perfect breakfast for me.

It’s amazing how many wonderful food options there are in all of these small towns across the country.  I would eat here all the time if I lived locally.
