TF2 Monster Mercs

So, I was thinking about the TF2 mercs as monsters/mythical creatures... Scout: Jackalope  -It’s known in the game that he’s called “Jackrabbit” by Engi and is known as the fastest member of the team.  -Rabbits are fast, can be skittish and alert (especially wild ones). -Jackalopes are from North American folklore, and seem harmless (though I’d imagine that their horns can do quite a bit of damage, like a buck). -Rabbits are good kickers because of their strong legs and are good at defending themselves despite the fact that they are prey to many animals. Spy: Matagot -It’s known in game and just in regular canon that Spy is seen as sly (AKA, being sneaky and tricky) and is hard to know which person he’s turned into. -He’d be a Fox Matagot.  -Matagots are from Southern France and can turn into multiple animals, but I feel a Fox fits him. -Foxes are amazing hunters, they’re quick and hard to catch and are known for causing trouble. Soldier: Sasquatch   -Soldier is a loud Guy and is violent when protecting his team, this is just a fact in canon and in game. -Sasquatches are commonly from North america and are said to be violent, smashing rocks on things to kill it and even yelling.  -And while Sasquatches are known to run away if needed, they will roar and/or act similar to a Gorilla to scare off prey. Sniper: PouKai -Sniper is known for being a Bushman, and being able to kill someone with good aim just from a single gun and being silent at it too. -He’d be a Poukai, why? Poukai’s are from New Zealand, they’re large man-eating birds and while they are considered mythical they may have actually existed at one point because of an actual extinct bird’s similarities.  -They’re like Eagles and are able to quickly kill and eat their prey silently.  Demoman: Kelpie -Demo’s known for his many bombs and somehow inability to not die despite the fact he is just a l c o h o l. And his disliking for Nessie. -He’d be a Kelpie for these reasons, 1: Kelpies are water spirits and while there are debates about it, it’s generally believed they lived near the Loch Ness Monster. and 2: Kelpies are known for tricking people by turning into a beautiful looking person (man or woman) and/or beautiful horse and then attacking that said person, even causing the Kelpie to be called the Devil because of it (honestly, gives me the vibes that Demo calls himself when he says he’s a monster because of his cyber eye).  Heavy: Leshy -Heavy, while known for carrying a big ass gun, is a big softie and doesn’t speak much, being kind and respectful to many people regardless of size and shape. -Leshy’s are in Russian and/or Polish origin, they are known to be masculine and said to be a forest spirit that watches the woods it protects. And while they seem evil, they tend to be quite nice depending on the Humans they meet. -This fits Heavy very well, he’s not mean at his core (literally a gentle giant). And he protects his team and family and friends, always making sure they’re safe. Medic: Nachzehrer -It’s known in game and in canon that Medic is a bit unstable and likes to experiment with different organs and such (animal or Human). He’s also known for making a deal with Satan himself in the comics. -In German folklore,  Nachzehrers are kinda a mixture of Vampires and Ghouls. They are also known for being related to sickness and disease (like a plague). They are often created in sad ways (Suicide, ETC), and eat either their own bodies or their family members.  -While I don’t believe Medic would ever eat someone (including himself),  Nachzehrers are also created because of sickness (it’s believed the first person that dies becomes one in most cases).  -Medic would honestly probably just eat random people, or at the very least, his enemies. Engineer: Goatman  -Engi’s known for his sentries and many PHDs and fast thinking. And because of this, is hard to get rid of.  -From Texas and other places, the Goatman is known for protecting bridges by attacking and/or scaring off people, especially at night, by either scratching (or just generally hurting) the person and/or making many terrifying noises. -They tend to be seen as the Devil because of their violent acts if you stay on his bridge for too long. Reminds me of the line “And you best hope... not pointed at you.” Pyro: Cockatrice -It’s known in game that Pyro is well, a pyromaniac and a bit weird. But they’re protective over their friends but seem unsettling to others especially with the mask they wear. -Cockatrices is a biblical beast, known for turning people they make eye contact with into stone and/or using fire breath.  -They are violent to Humans, though I’d imagine they’d be protective over their own kind and offspring. Note: I made these little headcanons of the mercs as monsters/mythical creatures based on where they’re from and what fits them personality and job-wise- The knowledge of these creatures are from my own research, so if I get anything wrong, I do apologize- If you have more info’ on these creatures (especially if they are from where you live), please educate me! I’d be happy to learn! :)

My dad doesn’t talk to me very much ever since an awkward Christmas in 2020. There were a couple of Jews at BYU. Inhale, exhale. He’s sick though and I need to remember to call his name into the Boston Mass temple. She’s the temple who makes the most sense to me right now. Southern New England is a place very home to me. Among people, I think a lot about this guy named Noah Steinman. Noah Boah. Just this guy from middle school. Him and his friend MegN Meg in Connecticut. Ice ive I’ve mostly been to East Hartford and to Old Saybrool k Saybrook way in the southeastern corner, to go to Wells Fargo. Sometimes I cry out, "Noah!" "Trusty!" Richard Bushman says in Rough Stone Rolling that Noah is the archangel Gabriel or somethhi b something — he has this one paragraph where he lists out seven archangels. Is this Columbia tomfoolery, or sonethi even something even more dark and disturbing within Utah history? What would my life have been like if I had gone to Bowdoin? One of my childhood best friends, Ethan, went to—he says I don’t remember the name of his college. Our most recent convo was great. Over a year ago but great. He was posting an Instagram story of himself sitting in traffic and I told myself a joke that he was filming porn lol. Sitting in traffic and bragging about how he kicked his boyfriend out. Lol it was he was hot. Sitting in traffic on the way to a ski resort. Hard to explain why I would call that porn. I just — I mentioned that Idaho has a ski basin called Bogus Basin, and he expressed annoyance. I need to think about where whether that phrase is anti-Catholic. A few sentences up, about changing the time zone. Cause North Idaho is in PacificTime and the rest of Idaho is in Mountain Time. She was a fun phrase to say; that phase was entirely before I met Reap though. There are Facebook groups called "Moving to North Idaho" and such. I was sad that I lived in Southern Idaho, and one of my friends from BYU made sure to police me. She hasd had a rough experience at BYU. Maybe going on a date w/ me was one of the more uplifting parts. I almost made him to North Idaho.

I had a pretty peaceful Saturday. Wandered around the city a bunch. Practiced some DVT DBT skills. Found a Modelo beer can, Kurt’s fav beer brand five years ago, by the beach. Picked her up to either recycle her or keep her as a memento. With the way I’m using him/her/they/them instead of it, when possible, makes me think about how most words in French are gendered. I was supposed to do this speech therapy gender-affirming clinic, although he seems like I’m somewhat figuring her out on my own.

Said hello to the ladies a lot today, and they were really fun to talk to. Other hangers Gen genders as well.

I thought of writing a Wikipedia article about this Prep Tumblr phenomenon I keep talking about. This group from 201-

2012-2015 or so on Tumblr. I’m probably gonna invite my friends C (Chrissy) and A(Alexandria) as well. So funny. There was a woman named phdprep who both kept me willing to get out of bed, during the toughest parts of college, and also directly inspired my fashion choices when I got a job at Utah State University. I remember one night she kept prodding and prodding and liking my posts until she knew I was willing to keep trying— that’s a behavior mentioned on r/raisedbynarcissists and I think it’s true that peers motivati no and motivating and supporting each other feels different from child psychology. Right now, certain — there was also this dude drink the talk / drinkthentalk/ imactuallyagoodkid. Catholicboysintrouble needs to and maybe will get a full page to itself. It’s cool how just browsing the internet you can learn a bunch. 50starsand13bars, which inspired the first subreddit I became a mod of. If ppl ar e not interested in Prep Tumblr, there’s so much to say about Tumblr or internet culture in general. You know how Wikipedia articles have hyperlinks within them to other stuff? Other topics include porn on Tumblr, Yahoo’s CEO and her optimistic attempts to buy Tumblr, and much else that anyone else may want.

Kurt and I had gotten into a mild argument at the dinner table—Taco Tuesday, Cameron’s favorite—about whether he should drink and drive. He won the argument, and I still remember the brand name of that beer, Modelo, to this day. We had this inside joke called Park City Gentlemen’s Club, and I passed a Gentlemen’s Club while I was wandering the city today—realized how much better our club was. Lots of better memories w/ Reap this past year too.

I wore Nike and she felt great. Nike blue shorts that smell like butt, and that was refreshing. Some Elon Musk in my life, lol. Taking a break from Abercrombie Fierce for a while. Kurt worked at te the Nike store. I didn’t mention that because she’s a minor detail. There was a big outlet mall, like Wrentham or the other one that starts with a W, and many stores to choose from. Considering becoming a Nike person; Nike worked great for CrossFit. Maybe to wear Nike around too. I’m wearing a Ralph Lauren long sleeve grey tee from Wrentham that coat coat cost like $12 or $20 bucks. They have all kinds of discounts. I remember from that day, August 2022, just talking to the staffers there and searching hard for what I wanted. I bought a rugby shirt that ended up being a source of warmth and comfort during the rough Rhode Island winter—Reaper was right, winters near there are rough. So many of the concepts I tried to enact as a teenager, fashion wise are coming together now, and that’s awesome. A lot of my teenage fashion was clumsy and awkward for numerous reasons.

Gonna read one chapter from the Book of Mormon. I think I’m on 1 Nephi 6. Or 1 Nephi 3. This read through will be very slow and painful for multiple reasons. Ppl are invited to read with me if you want. She’s ultimately just a banned book, like many books on the Index Library Prohibitorum. Banned books are kind of a librarian value, although right now I’m actually scared to even go inside public libraries. I went to public libraries a bunch during the pandemic though. University libraries are my fav, followed — are my fav. Go figure. Slainte

If I did go inside a public library, I would want to read Angels in America because I think it he would help me refine my intellectual conclusions about the epistemology of Utah psychiatry. The Hercules Disney movie would probably accomplish a similar effect. I don’t know exactly what Angels I’m A In America is about. Just—just—I know the book is vaguely thematically relevant to what Utah psychiatry is about. Not referring to the grandfather figure saying "show me you can behave!!!!!!!" which makes me laugh so hard. His commentary. You can laugh about hos his sex joke and find comic relief from Utah, or you can think about fundamentalist polygamous groups in Utah where the grandfather has sex with his granddaughter—perhaps that’s only Warren Jeffs. I’m grateful to Reap for helping me with many stuff and just also adding complexit y to my psychiatry opinions. 👋🙂🏈

7. bomb voyage (spy/demo) - first off. incredibles reference. immediately pushes it way up and also the wordplay is so fun and silly fuckin bomb voyage. yes. you get it. reblog 8/10

6. flash fire (scout/pyro) - this one kind of rules. very nice ring to it AND it's a pun? awesome as hell 8/10

5. quick fix (medic/scout) - not my thing but this name is so good. quick fix... 9/10

4. boots n bombs (soldier/demo) - how can i not like this one!!! it doesn't have a clever pun name but it's so cute and charming. boots and bombs that's their thing! and it's so satisfying to say. giggling and kicking my feet. 9/10

3. short fuse (demo/engie) - i know i'm like biased and stuff but let's be honest here this one is just a banger. short because engie height moment. fuse because demo. shortfuse. it just works. owns 10/10

2. freedom fries (spy/soldier) - naming ships after food is always a hit or miss situation and im SO glad this one works as well as it does. youve got the wordplay. the two related things. the two same first letters. fucking rules 10/10

1. hop scotch (demo/scout) - i'll be honest this pairing itself is not my cup of tea at all but i mean this entirely genuinely this name is genius. hop is scout. scotch is demo. hop scotch as in The Game?! it's so good. why can't every name be this good man... 10/10

Name headcanons cause I'm bored!

Disclamer: This is a combination of canon and headcanon! If something doesn't seem canon to their names, it probably isn't!

Scout: Jeremy Smith.

He really dislikes being called Jeremy however, his mum told him the name was influenced by his father, and he can never get a clear answer where that guy went. If you call him Jeremy and you're a friend, he'll just avoid you for a lil. If you're an enemy or smth though? He will straight up demolish you and make sure you /know/ 'Jeremy is dead. I'm the Scout.'

This isn't to say Jeremy doesn't feel like his name! Moreso just that he really doesn't want people calling him that. Smith, if you /need/ a name.

Soldier: Jane Doe.

He has no bad feelings towards his name! That's just it! However, you best put some sort of honorific in front of or behind it, private! Or else he'll take that as real rude and condemn you to a ton of pushups!

Examples: Sir, Jane! Jane, Sir! Mister Doe!

Treat his name with respect or don't say it at all, nobody's gonna get you out of those burpees you earned yourself.

Pyro: Unknown.

Not really much to say about this one! Instead, I'll focus on nicknames! They love em~! Call them any cute thing under the sun, it's great

Yet another reason why they enjoy time with Engie, because he has a tendency to call his friends little nicknames like Pal and Bud and such. Nothing special, but still!

Heavy: Mikhail Volkov.

His name is a good name, he gets a cute little nickname from all of his loved ones because of it. Of course, he has to give you permission to call him Misha. Don't worry if you don't know if you have it, he's pretty blunt! Just ask him what you're supposed to call him, and he'll just straight up say it. 'Call me Heavy/Mikhail/Misha'

Too be honest, if you know his name is Mikhail, you can probably just call him Misha. Like, nobody calls him Mikhail except maybe his mumma.

Engineer: Dell Conagher.

He has some mixed feelings about his name, quite honestly! Its a nice name, and he feels very comfortable with it, but it's also a bit of a 'cute' name. And growing up in Texas of all places, he may have some internalized issues to work out. Either way, if someone calls him Dell, it's enough to get him to smile a little. Conagher on the other hand, he just looks like he got caught stealing from the cookie jar.

Demoman: Tavish Finnegan Degroot.

Extremely comfy with his name! Hell, does he seem like a man who's ever uncomfy with his identity? Not to me, so far at least. I need to analyze him a little more. Doesn't mind being called by his name, but nicknames formed off of his name will make him melt. Tavvy, Fin, all that jazz just makes his insides warm and fuzzy. Maybe that's the scrumpy though.

Medic: Fynn Ludwig.

No you may not know his first name, and no you may not call him it if you find it out! Doctor Ludwig only, if names are necessary. Fynn makes him feel like he's a kid again, in a bad way. Like everyone's staring down at him, just wanting to get him to the next stage of his life, and never caring. He hates being called Fynn. There will probably only ever be one exception. If him and his s/o are extremely close and very very much trust each other, he'll listen to them list off little things about his name they like. They can't call him it in public! But maybe when he's falling asleep in their arms it'll do.

Sniper: Mick Mundy.

Mister Mundy please, that is all. Mick is so.. Cute, and unprofessional. No thank you. He'd prefer stupid nicknames like Snipes and Bushman over /Mick/. However, he doesn't hate it. These are just requests and preferences. If someone he's close to keeps calling him Mick he may toss an empty threat, but later circle back and ask if they actually like it.

Spy: Aimée Daizome.

No you do not know his name no you don't. The thing about his name though? It's pronounced as "Aimer Des Hommes", which translates roughly to 'Love Men/Love Some Men/. I actually did a little research, this is based on a children's game! It's basically asking a question. Mister/Miss (Last Name) have a kid, what's the kids name? The first name basically changes the meaning of the last name. Much like the English, 'Ben Dover'. I doubt his parents were sober when this happened. Hey Carol it’s Steven. Daniela just told us that she wants a physical relationship with our wife. To be honest, I’m really gutted over this. Marc got upset and went off on her in the chat long but to be honest, I think Marc has a point. It’s very unfair that Daniela has done the bare minimum to cooperate and be kind to the system yet still wants to be with our wife.

I know Daniela is hurting and just wants to be loved but still.

Serum samples from 20 individuals who received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 thwarted a version of the coronavirus with the so-called N501Y mutation, according to a preprint posted to bioRxiv yesterday (January 7). This mutation is one of many sequence changes present in the B.1.1.7 and 501.V2 variants of SARS-CoV-2 that were first detected in the UK and South Africa, respectively, and are now rapidly spreading around the world.

“There’s no reason to think the vaccines won’t work just as well on these strains,” Frederic Bushman of the University of Pennsylvania who tracks how the virus mutates and was not involved in the work, tells the Associated Press. But he adds that the study only examined one mutation and the B.1.1.7 and 501.V2 variants have many more mutations that were not tested.

N501Y resides within the coronavirus’s spike protein that enables entry into host cells. Scientists at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston had already engineered a version of SARS-CoV-2 with the N501Y mutation to study in mice when the new variants emerged, The Washington Post reports. The researchers collaborated with scientists at Pfizer to expose serum—an antibody-containing component of blood—from vaccine recipients to the engineered virus, and found no differences in neutralization between the N501Y virus and virus with the original Y501 sequence.
