It's very frustrating to me that the gotham creators established that Lee holds grudges in season three and then just completely did away with that when they needed to prove Ed was straight in season 4

Like, she literally despises Jim (the love of her life) when he kills her husband to save her. Even after she recognizes that the Tetch virus was awful, she still doesn't forgive Jim, just asks Carmine to call Zsaszles off. She's still angry, still upset, still holds a grudge.

But the man who killed her best friend and ensured that she had to go through one of the most traumatic events in her life completely alone (losing her baby while Jim was being framed for a murder Ed committed), she's all good with him? So much so that she's willing to take him with her when she leaves gotham? So much so that she'll pursue some kind of relationship with him?

Fuck you, Gotham. This is character assassination at its worst. Like what you did to Ed was bad enough. What you did to Lee was also fucking unforgivable.

Edward Nygma and Leslie Thompkins deserved better then and they deserve better now.

imo the Tetch virus arc was written quite clumsily…the whole thing is supposed to be a loss of control a loss of self by acting in your own impulses like a wild animal but their ego is still like. Very much there it becomes more a violent defense of the ego instead of what's beneath, what is truly repressed the most by the individual. like we dont see deep down what these characters truly are if you took away any social paint and put their worst most repress impulses on the frontline. its literally just the original characters but a bit more fucked up, the virus should focus way wayyyyyyyy more on the impulses than the ego justifications

like jim gordon we get told multiple times how much gulit he has for his actions how hes huanted by whats he done to others during this AND WE SEE JACK SHIT OF THAT WHEN HE HAS THE VIRUS THAT MAKES YOU ACT ON YOUR IMPULSES! MAKE HIM SHOW WEAKNESS IN THIS ARC! SHOW TEARS! SHOW GULIT! SHAME! ANYTHING HE FUCKING REPRESSES MORE THAN HIS LITTLE FITS OF ANGER!!!!!!!!!! basically in my rewrite the tetch virus basically just almost completely removes the impulse control of someone and fixates on the things most repressed by the individual, taking them over completely, making them unrecognizable, making them act like a wild animal. those most repressed impulses/desires will also begin to seep themselves into other aspects of being as well, like hunger, thirst, libido, anything like that. the virus also often makes someone be able to lose a shit ton of blood while still living, if it didn't then it wouldn't be able to spread to other people as easily

lee still puts Jim in a coffin with a little radio linked to one she gave the GCPD but more so to give them a long and tortuous death while making sure everyone else around him suffers too, the only reason he got out AND GOT THE VIRUS WHEN LEE NEVER INTENDED THAT TO HAPPENED was they found him in that fucking coffin after over a hour and lee accidentally bled all over his face, not even aware she was bleeding from her own neck because of how focused she was on having this fucker die

how many eps did you watch this time? it feels like barely anything even happened in this show except for like. ed being the most oblivious straight bf possible towards oswald and oswald having the worst time ever emotionally

ive managed to get through 3 episodes so far this morning (am still going, ideally will get through to the finale by tonight but maybe i'll get tired idk) and actually a bit has happened but i havent posted about most of it because i dont really like the main plot rn 😭 tldr uhhh the police captain murdered some people and is now in arkham, lee's fiance is infected with the tetch virus and just burst a guys skull, and selina bruce and ivy are all kinda working together against the court of owls. theres also a professor pyg thing on the backburner but there hasnt been an update on that one in a bit

Lee + A Critique

Late to fandom, and I am sure that this was talked about a ton, but I really, REALLY hate what they did to Lee.

And I don't mean the stuff with the Tetch virus and her breaking bad. I mean the fact that they gave her a real kick-ass purpose in Season 4 as the Queen of the Narrows, only to completely retcon it in Season 5 by making her more like Lee from Seasons 2 & 3.

No real mention of her whole thing with Ed (which I actually liked), nothing about how she ran the Narrows and was this strong, independent, anti-hero. Nope, she forgot everything, started dressing "normally" again, and then married Jim. Just like that.

I miss this Lee and would have really liked to have seen more of what she was doing. I also liked that Ed kind of found a little bit of empathy through her, and then all of that was taken away. Was their relationship completely toxic? Yeah, a little, but she showed him a little more humanity than Oswald, and I liked that. I liked the departure from textbook Villain for Ed.

Also, I liked her and Ed way more than her and Jim. (there, I said it again)

I'm heading into Season 5 soon and I will probably edit this opinion. But only slightly!

Alliance or Destruction idea

It’s been a long time since I posted an idea here, but I’m watching a video on YouTube on top 30 werewolf movies and it has sparked an idea for a fun bit of Gotham smut. This was inspired by seeing movies like Skinwalkers from 2006 or 2007 (can’t remember) and the Underwolrd franchise, so please be aware of similarities.

Many hundreds of years ago, Jim Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth were not only friends, but also secret lovers who knew they could never be open about their love. Things got even worse when, one night while they were meeting, they didn’t notice the full moon in the sky and came across another meeting, though not one of lovers. They are a werewolf and a vampire, trying to destroy one another, as their species always try to do.

In the ensuing struggle, both creatures are killed, but not before the vampire bites Alfred and the werewolf bites Jim, infecting the lovers with enemy DNA. They are found by the Vampire’s Court and taken in, though once they determine Jim’s bite is a werewolf bite and not a vampire bite. Alfred manages to enlist help from Leslie Thompkins to free Jim as he hasn’t done any harm to the vampires and doesn’t deserve to die. The pair manage it and Jim manages to flee, where he is accepted by the pack of the deceased werewolf.

Years go by in the blink of an eye for the immortal lovers who do all they can to look perfect to the elders of their species, so they can be left alone and meet where they can. Things get easier when Alfred becomes a Master Vampire and Jim becomes an Alpha Werewolf who manages to wrangle some land for themselves in Gotham. By the time it’s revealed the pair are still lovers despite being genetic enemies, Head Vampire Kathryn Monroe and Alpha Theo Galavan want to kill them, but they each have their own Court and Pack who will fight to protect their heads.

Jim has a number of wolves who are loyal to him, like Harvey Dent, Harvey Bullock, Sarah Essen, Alvarez, Harper, but his top wolves are Jerome Valeska, Jonathan Crane, Bridgit Pike, Ivy Pepper, and Oswald Cobblepot, all of whom delight in their bloodlust almost as much as Galavan, and are more than ready to burn him if he touches the Alpha who saved them from their abusive families (here, Gertrude died much earlier and, after Elijah found out he had a son, naturally took care of him, but Oswald was hated by his step-mother and siblings. Once Elijah was poisoned, Grace, Charles, and Sasha were even more cruel, until Jim saved him).

Alfred’s Court is smaller, but no less deadly with people like Lee who agreed that the rivalry was stupid when Jim and Alfred were proof the two could get along, and there was also Jeremiah Valeska (who was injured the night Jerome became a werewolf and, by some twist of fate, Jeremiah received a blood transfer from a vampire instead of a human; fellow vampire Hugo Strange was curious as to what would happen and Alfred tore his head off soon after), his partner Ecco, Jervis Tetch, Victor Fries, Victor Zsasz, and Sofia Falcone (the Falcone’s were born werewolves but had a history of occasionally producing a ‘dud’. Sofia was this ‘dud’ when she didn’t transform when she was 13 and was cast out. She deliberately sought out Alfred to turn her instead, which he did when she turned 21).

Things are pretty calm between the respective Court and Pack until Sofia gets news from her wolf brother about a child who has been born in Gotham and will be either the doom or salvation of werewolves and vampires. Their DNA is unique in the fact that it can handle the virus of both lycanthropy and vampirism at the same time; a hybrid. On their 18th birthday, if they are bitten by a vampire, then every werewolf on Earth will die. If they are bitten by a werewolf, then every vampire will die. But, if they are bitten by both species when they turn 18, then not only will both species live, but they shall live in harmony.

Mario warns her that there are those on both sides that either want to claim this child or have it killed to protect their species. Some even want to kill it just to avoid the idea of living in harmony with their ‘enemies’. They don’t know the name of the child or even what year it was born; the prophecy merely said that the child was in Gotham, implying that the child has already been born, instead of will be born. The two species go through all the hospital records they can find, hoping to see if they can smell anything different about this prophecy child.

Neither species has any luck finding the child, which leads Kathryn and Galavan to suggest killing all the children, but Alfred and Jim fight back against this idea as that would be over 200,000 deaths (this is based off of the fact that there reportedly almost 210,000 babies born in New York City in 2020); not only would it be monstrous, but it would almost surely expose them to the world. The threat of exposure brings the other packs and courts away from the idea of infanticide and they all agree to keep watch for this prophecy child.

Things are quiet for the next 17 and a half years, until Bridgit, Ecco, Sofia, Lee, and Ivy’s human friend, Selina Kyle, brings a new friend to one of their girls nights out; Bryce Wayne. The quintet of supernatural ladies think nothing of this girl until one guy tries to hit on Ivy and, when he refuses to take no for an answer, going so far as to hit Ivy, Bryce responds by beating the guy up, impressing the werewolves. After the guy is knocked out, Lee helps Bryce stand up and she notices an odd birthmark; what looks like a crescent moon cradling what looks like a vampire’s bite wound.

Later, when Lee tells Alfred and Jim about the mark, they question how the hunters missed Bryce, prompting Jerome and Jeremiah to reveal that Martha had great trouble with her pregnancy, right up until she had to give premature birth to her baby girl and the doctors were reluctant to make any official documentation until there was more of a guarantee the child would live. Furthermore, apparently the hunters focused more on male children like Brant Jones and Tommy Elliot instead of females like Grace Blomdahl or Bryce Wayne.

What cements the idea that Bryce is the prophecy child is when Jonathan and Fries do some calculations and realize that the night of Bryce’s 18th birthday will be a total lunar eclipse, complete with a blood moon. Alfred and Jim know the orphaned girl is the only chance they have at being together without others trying to tear them apart, and have the members of their Pack/Courts befriend the girl and keep her safe, with the Master Vampire and Alpha Werewolf digging into their seldom used magical abilities, and seducing Bryce through her dreams so that, when the time comes, she won’t resist them.

Will their plans work and keep Bryce safe? Will Bryce succumb to Alfred and Jim’s charms? Does anyone think this idea might be worth something more than the space it grew in my smut farm brain?

I have finally gotten to the part where Ed and Lee started to interact (in Season 4) and….I’m utterly confused on how and why they start dating.

Like I understand that Lee is manipulating him and Ed has 86 mental illnesses and should not be allowed in most public spaces, but….you’re telling me that the woman cares so much for the people she hurt by taking the Tetch virus (for some reason) that she came back to Gotham to help them is going to willingly date and enable a murderer? Even if it’s just for manipulation purposes. Especially when you consider everything he did to her and Jim.

just saw your post about gnc leslie and so true. She was working two extremely taxing jobs day and night in the narrows. She was running around trying to inspire revolution whilst caring for hundreds of sick patients. She was dealing with the aftermath of all the shit that happened with the tetch virus and Jim. I feel like with all of that going on she'd reach a level of self acceptance to just not care about makeup or shaving. She's beyond trying to construct an appealing image of a white collar worker and desireable person. She's finding herself and channelling her actions towards caring for humanity. I think she'd start wearing simple button down shirts and oversized thrifted tea shirts. She'd wear warm practical, comfortable coats, and re-wear the same jeans through out the week. She'd be free to be herself.

Also kind of related, but in general seeing leslie in the narrows dolled up in makeup, and seeing selina always wearing a full face of makeup with stylised hair always irked me a little. They are both living in poverty, it seems out of character. But also... it's gotham, none of the details of this show make practical sense. The series prioritises style and I respect it's commitment to that at least.

AAAAAAAAAAA YOU GET ITTTTTTTT!!!!! It makes no sense it doesn’t fit her character progression and is only there because Gotham is allergic to women being more masculine than cishet men like. It’s like the show is scared we won’t even know they’re women without makeup, like makeup and femininity define their womanhood it’s a performance. To see Leslie escape from having to constantly be the perfect woman, the perfect wife and become more should reflect her appearance too, she shouldn’t be worrying about being feminine when she has a lot to fucking do AND HER NOT BEING FEMININE WOULD BE HER CHARACTER EVOLVING OUT OF WHAT PEOPLE WANTED HER TO BE IN BOTH JOB AND PERSONALITY AND LOOKS! Because Gotham is so against masculine woman they genuinely had a missed opportunity to show more of her character arc by having it affect her looks.

that being said, I’m not inherently against her wearing makeup during the narrows arc. I do think cherri would be one of those bosses who would make their female employees doll up to keep guests around. If her ass is concerned about money all the time, she would make Lee wear makeup most of the time. After cherri is gone though? Yeah Lee is not wearing that shit (which can also represent how she is not owned by anyone anymore. She has no expectations for how she’s supposed to dress or look like with makeup. She can finally be free.)
