Except not when talking about Blue-Green color acuity.
See, Blue and Green are both colors humans have cones for. When a wavelength of light sets off both, your brain makes a best estimate of what color it is based on which cones reacted more.
Blue and green being right next to each other in the visible spectrum means our blue and green cones have an Overlapping Range, and when something in that range hits your eye your brain has to decide How Blue or How Green that shade of terquoise or teal is.
Like being left or right handed, some peeps brains lean one way or the other, the reasons for that ranging from morphological differences ( having more green cones than blue cones means you have more detectors for green, more green cones get set off in the overlap range, Teal appears greener to that person, and vice veraa for perceving it as more blue ) to cultural differences ( not every culture calls colors the same things or even identifies Teal as an in between tone, and don't differentiate between Powder Blue ( color of the sky on a bright autumn morning ) vs an Oceanic Blue ( intense dark navy to indigo with greens in the blacks ); defining both tones as Blue.
Some folks also have a pretty even split with their cones, tho I have no idea if an even ratio of blue to green is even Proven To Be Human Baseline. Like.... assuming the middle is the average is skipping a few steps. The most common form of colorblindness is Green-Red insensitivity, loads of folks see things as more blue and full green acuity is missing from like 30% of the male population in the US last I checked.
Green, without insensitivity, is the color humans can see the most shades of. Our green detectors developed sensitivity to let us delinate between a lil and a lot of green, so I find it genuinely interesting that a good chunk of the population Thinks Blue Is Green because they're allergic to being corrected and don't know they're green insensitive.
The best color acuity tests have you arrange color swatches by shade, testing how well you can deliniate those shades. Average score on a 100 swatch test is 80 something, and most individuals struggle with shades of red and violet. Red is the hardest color for the human eye to process, so deliniating shades there of is NOT a universal ability. Some folks see Bright Candy Gumdrops and Dark globs of bloody vicera and perceive it as the same shade of red.
And again, that's if they still call it red if its bright- then folks tend to call it pink, peach, salmon, or rust.
Also, we have blue and red cones and perceive violet / purple when both activate.
However, we don't have a cone for yellow. Yellow is what we see when NONE of the cones go off, but the rods still detect light.
So yeah, purple is real and yellow is a lie, pass it on.
HOW DO YOUR PERCEIVE BLUE AND GREEN?
