Freddie’s 5-year secret

Singer hid AIDS truth reveals Queen co-star

ROCK star Freddie Mercury knew he had the AIDS virus five years before he died, fellow Queen star Brian May revealed yesterday.

But the self-confessed homosexual told the group only a few months ago and did not publicly admit the truth until the day before his death.

Guitarist May and drummer Roger Taylor spoke out for the first time since the flamboyant singer's death last week "to set the record straight". They dismissed stories that he had died loveless and lonely, sayIng that he had had a "long and stable" relationship with a male lover who was at his side until his last moments.

"There were three guys who were very caring until the end and one guy in particular.”

Taylor said: "No-one really knew Freddie. He was shy, gentle and kind. He wasn't the person he put over on stage.”

May added: "The Freddie we knew wasn't wildly promiscuous or consumed by drugs. He had a responsible attitude to all people he was close to.”

The two musicians, who have vowed to fight the killer disease, revealed on TV-am that the surviving members of Queen planned a fund-raising event next year.

But grieving fans are already donating up to £1.000 a day to the AIDS charity, The Terence Higgins Trust.

The Queen hit Bohemian Rhapsody has been re-released to raise money for AIDS sufferers.

  The next morning.   Higgins went towards the Gryffindor common room. Ignoring the hostile looks from other students, he grabbed a first-year kid and asked him to call Isra Horrere out.   The poor kid nodded quickly and came back with Isra a few minutes later.   Everyone in the corrider stopped to look, wondering what the Slytherin wanted to say.   “Isra Horrere,” Higgins said. "I like you."   Gasps from the crowd. Many boys glared at him.   "What do you want from me?" Isra asked, cruel amusement glinting in her beautiful eyes.   Higgins stopped. He turned scarlet, his eyes darting on Isra's dazzling face. The face that smiled at him only in dreams.    "A kiss?" Isra suggested, her tone sincere and innocent. She pressed her delicate lips against Higgin's.    Just a moment.    Higgins blinked, and it was gone. Along with her.

Two scenes take place at extreme heights, one of which follows a bungee jump. All of the camera work in this film is either stationary or very smooth.

Stars to honour tragic Freddie

STARS of the pop world will pay tribute to the memory of Freddie Mercury at a glittering ceremony in the New Year.

The annual Brits Awards will be dedicated to the Queen singer who died of AIDS two weeks ago.

Last night the show's producer Jonathan King said: "One of the main charities to receive money from the event will be the Terence Higgins Trust which cares for victims of the virus."

Madonna

Celebrities at the big night will include Madonna, George Michael, Elton John, Annie Lennox and Bryan Adams.

The ceremony, to be screened on BBC1, will be held at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on February 12.

• Queen was nominated yesterday for a Brit Award as the best British group.
