Got a couple of posts in colour for the story coming up, and they're taking a while to get through (this is probably gonna' be the norm with full colour work, sorry all) so here's another filler post while you wait. And in both flavours, even! although lbr, uva is clearly the superior school here, the purple uniform doesn't make my eyes bleed lmao

If you recognise these guys, great! If you know their type specialties, very cool! If you know their names, then you can hang with me. :D For those that don't know them, they're the NPC Team that joins you when you take on Tera Raids with less than a full party of players. I've grown to like them a lot once I noticed that the NPCs that join you weren't randomly generated, and are instead consistent recurring characters. I've also already started to come up with headcanons and personality quirks, and judging by the uh, ...commentary, I've seen around online, I feel like I may be the team's first and only fan :'D They're defo' gonna' be showing up a bunch in the Alex/Violet story side regardless though, because I think they're a lot of fun.

As for why I even have them drawn out in a big line up though, a big thing for me personally while drawing is that I have an almost incessant need to be consistent, which demands accuracy, which means I need ref, looooots of ref. And when I can't get clear key art, model pics, swatches, etc, I make my own ref. Oftentimes, I'll make my own refs anyway just so that I have an easy and consistent swatch base to pick from. These guys fall under that need for ref, because obviously they don't have key art, and they don't wander around town either, but they're unique enough in my book to warrant drawing. :3

Getting really tired of Tera Pokémon being able to attack two or three times in a row. If they were going to bring back Strong and Agile styles, it would have been nice if the players got it too.

(To be clear, I'm not talking about when it removes your buffs, removes its debuffs, and steals your Tera Orb charge all on a single turn, although that's annoying too. I mean when it attacks you and then attacks again, knocking you out before you even get to have your turn. Or when it does something like use Swords Dance followed by immediately attacking.)

So I still hate Tera raids :V apparently now even doing them solo, it will just randomly decide to eat a chunk off of your timer if you faint despite it never doing that before unless you battled online with other people

So top that off with the fact the NPCs do nothing when you’re out and the dialogue eats your time as well as random lag when hitting a button, Tera raids are some of the most infuriating things I’ve ever had to do in a game in a very long time, bring back dynamax dens O-O

THE SETUP

Hi Hello Hallo Bonjour Ciao! This section will contain a rudimentary breakdown of this event in plainspeak for muns, as I understand the google doc might seem intimidating at first glance.

Essentially: this is a big excuse for dnd + bg3 muses to be dressed in fancy formalwear and interact! I saw a lot of people on dash saying they wish there was a DA: I Winter Palace equivalent event in BG3, and several people seemed interested in having a form of open-fandom event taking place that gave them a reason to do that. That is the main goal of this event---to let muses have fun in fancy clothes.

Lord Dullanathri the Season Keeper is an Archfey who has brought his Domain of Delight to Baldur's Gate for his annual festivities celebrating the ushering in of Fall, which it is his duty to oversee. All of Baldur's Gate, including the Outer City areas and Duskhawk Hill, are encompassed by his domain at this time and subject to its rules and aesthetics to some degree. Namely: fall leaves and colors, Feywild plants, lots of fall harvests ( plants such as corn, kale, pumpkin, turnips, beets, etc. ), music, large feasts, and a good dose of fey whimsy. Dullanathri's presence, for those who are aware of him, is considered to be a blessing as his domain's arrival will ensure the successful harvest of all crops and forgeables in the surrounding area, leaving plenty to preserve for the upcoming Winter. Baldur's Gate also loves a good party, and though there is typical Fey mischief afoot, Dullanathri is a neutral party and will not intentionally harm others personally. While the party is going on, all individuals inside the domain will be automatically dressed in formal gala attire; feel free to choose any outfit you would like that you feel is suitable for your character and share it with others! Draw it! Make an image collage of references! Dress your character up in appropriately fancy clothes from the game! Write a drabble about it, Cinderella style! Approach this however you like, before or during the event.

What is an RPC / Dash Event ?: Consider this the dashboard equivalent of an in-game event, such as the Lantern Rite Festival in Genshin Impact or special 7⭐ Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet+Violet, where many people can come together to participate.

Who is Playing the NPCs?: You are! Or your writing partner is. Feel free to fill in the gaps of the personalities of other party attendants and citizens of Baldur's Gate in a way that is interesting to you and use the skill checks as a guide for your interactions (if you wish). This includes any battle segments, such as Flower Wars---you are free to play this as true-to-form of a real campaign battle as you want, or to plot out things with your partner in advance. Do what suits you.

Is this Mutuals Exclusive?: No! Anyone is free to take the event information / set-up and post opens or write while also respecting the rules of individuals

( ie. you do not have to be mutuals with me to participate in this event, but you must still respect the rules of other writers ( such as being mutuals-exclusive ) unless they state otherwise. )

Do Characters Have to do Side Quests?: No! The Side Quests are merely additional scenario prompts to help flesh out the party, and to give various types and personalities of characters a reason to attend and interact. Not every muse is an extrovert but some are heroic, or power motivated, or curious. These quests exist to give writers material to interact with the party in a way beyond just attending, and to write with others. If you aren't interested, you don't need to focus on them.

A couple months ago now I was fortunate enough to buy a used switch lite from my friend, and even luckier to obtain a copy of Pokemon Scarlet at the local pawn shop at a very reduced price (plus a couple other things but that's not the point rn). So, we go right from the earliest generation of pokemon to the newest back to back, with possibly just as many bugs and glitches, to my gen 9 team!

General Playthrough Notes:

Okay look I need to level with you all right off the bat, I don't like the vast majority of the pokemon introduced in gen 9. They feel like such first drafts to me. I normally go into these games with a team plan but this time I literally had two slots missing going in, I just could not think of what to put in there. And I already planned on using two poison-types and two normal-types! Normally I avoid doubling up on types as much as possible! After a bit I used the codes to get a bug-tera mew and a cetitan and was just thinking "I guess they'll be mainstays??"... then I immediately ran into a shiny shinx. Then a shiny litleo. They happened to slot right into the team and I've never been fortunate enough to use shinies in a playthrough (except my soulsilver randomized apocalocke but shhhhh we aren't there yet), so I put them on. But if they hadn't shown up and essentially saved my ass I would have been hard pressed to fill up a team of six (look I literally just used a mew I'm not in a hurry to use it again, at least it's been a couple years since I used luxray in a playthrough).

Anyways, despite all that, I had fun! I knew going in it wouldn't be too difficult and would have its lion's share of glitches, so I was just along for the ride. I like the friend group you form in this game! I like vibing with koraidon as an honorary team member! It's just a pleasant time.

Back to shinies for a moment, overworld shinies without any sound effects to indicate them is evil. I spent so much time staring at groups of pokemon trying to tell if one of them was off-palette. Thankfully, I never ran into any shinies other than the ones I caught.

The raids are neat, though since I don't have Nintendo Online and no frequent enough local players it isn't super interesting with just the npcs. Caught a few neat fellas though, including a steel-tera breloom and a fighting-tera azumarill.

Speaking of, when I first started playing those mewtwo raids were going on and I wanted to participate in them so bad. I barely missed my window, though from what I've heard I wouldn't have stood much of a chance anyway, haha.

I wish there was more post-game other than the raids. I've redone the tournament like half a dozen times now; I wish there was a battle frontier or something. To be fair, I haven't caught all those ruin legends yet; though the one I have caught I managed to get in the first ball, lol.

Do I have the dlc yet? No! I can't just throw around that kind of money willy-nilly. Maybe someday though.

Picnics are really cute though I wish I could pet my pokemon instead of just wash them. Also why can't I sit down on the chairs that are set up around the picnic table??? Still don't really get the sandwich hype, I might mess around with it a bit though, I want to give it a fair shot.

"Hey Nel, why haven't you talked about the Elite Four? You usually start these notes with them?" The E4 is very unremarkable, sorry. I won't bore you by being the billionth person to rag on how Geeta is objectively the worst champion. Also when I rematched all the gym leaders I didn't have to terastilize or heal my pokemon. They were a bit more impressive the first time around tbh. The gym puzzles were neat though!! Except for Tulip's. Fuck her.

Oh yeah, terastilizing is a thing. Mega evolution is still better.

I wanna hang out with my friiiieeeennnds more, both my irl friends and Nemona, Penny, and Arven. It would be so fun to do raids with them or something like that.

Mari's Tera Raid Guides #18 - Sceptile

It's croc time

(edit: added ice tera option) (it doesn't change much from fairy, it's just more likely that people have more shards available. Tera fairy is very popular)

Skeledirge lv.100

Tera type: Ice / Fairy

Ability: Unaware

Nature: Modest

Item: Covert Cloak

IVs: max HP, defense, special attack (maybe speed?)

EVs: 252 defense, 252 special attack, 4 HP

Moves:

-Torch Song (level up)

-Tera Blast (TM)

-Slack Off (egg move)

-Curse (egg move)

Usage:

Best to use 3 Torch Songs first (but NOT ONE MORE! Save those PP!) so you're ready to terastallize, but after those just stay still until the player stat reset (at 85% time left).

Once you see it go off, terastallize immediately while using Curse (note: DO NOT use Curse before you terastallize). After that, spend some turns setting up: I would do 1 more Curse first, then if you see you're losing health too fast throw one or two more in. Then 6x Torch Songs to maximize your sp.atk. Whenever you find yourself in yellow or red HP, use a Slack Off.

When you're satisfied with your boosts, use 1 Go All Out! cheer - Sceptile's shield is long and he has somewhat decent defenses, while we only have a 1.5x STAB modifier from the tera type... we're gonna need the help.

And NOW you can start Tera Blasting :) only stop for a Slack Off if you need to.

TL;DR: 3x Torch Song, wait for Sceptile to reset your stats, terastallize, Curse x2-4 (depends on passive healing from NPCs), Torch Song x6, Slack Off if needed (half HP or less); 1x offensive cheer (the Go All Out! one), Tera Blast spam (+ eventual Slack Off)

Other options:

If you have a fairy tera and the DLC (or otherwise access to the TMs in it), you can teach your Skeledirge Alluring Voice instead of Tera Blast. Same power, but will confuse the opponent on turns in which it raised its stats (it won't happen all that often, since you're probably gonna use it only towards the end of the battle when Sceptile's stats are all raised to the max, but still...)

Pros:

-easy to use

-easy to get (there was a free one in Pokémon Home)

-Covert Cloak protects from paralysis (and maybe even from the extra crit ratio on Leaf Blade, not sure)

Cons:

-needs tera shards

-yeah, you need Pokémon Home. Unless you have other means to get an Unaware 'dirge

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you know how that one teacher, Saguaro wants you to give him some Sweet Herba Mystica.

I've never really tried to do it since I could never really do those 5 star tera battles, which I've been told is the only way to get Herba Mystica after the main storyline. My Pokémon were never strong enough, and I play Pokémon alone, so I couldn't really get any actual people to help me with the raids, and the NPCs I get are never really helpful.

But since my Pokémon team is either level 100 or in the 90s, I've been giving those 5 star battles a go, and I even managed to defeat some. Even unlocked those higher dark crystal battles.

But I still haven't managed to get a hold of Sweet Herba Mystica. I've gotten, spicy, bitter, even sour, but not sweet. I've also gotten bottle caps or just nothing special from those battles, which I feel is a bit insulting.

This honestly happens when it comes to Pokémon games, when I want something, I can never really get it, and when I don't care or need it anymore, I finally get it. Sometimes I feel like the games are legitimately messing with me.

I stg I just forced myself to walk away from a 5 star greedant raid I was doing with npcs bc it was wasting so much time with the most time consuming attack ever - bullet seed and stock pile. Not to mention all the npcs were dumb as shut and brought terrible Pokémon, so it was my meowscarada carrying the entire battle. I hate that the timer continues through dialogue/battle commentary. I’m already getting carpal tunnel mashing A as fast as possible and it’s just for the hope of getting some herba mystica. Why do I do these things to myself? 🙃🙃🙃

Thoughts on the new Pokémon games? Any favorite Pokémon or characters?

They are pretty good! My favorite character is Nemona and my favorite Pokemon is Chi-Yu, who I have lovingly named "Splashy".

I do have some more in-depth thoughts if you want to keep reading.

Graphics (5/10)

Probably some of the worst I've seen in a mainline game, despite the character and Pokemon models being really high-quality.

The low-quality draw distance is to be expected, but it's still pretty jarring seeing NPCs without their hand animations fully rendered. Some hands would look like 🤚 when holding a Pokeball or even just a pencil.

The environments are really lackluster, and the weather can cause the frame rate to drop into the single digits.

Glitches are plentiful, but not in a good way. Pokemon spawning in walls, HP bars glitching in Tera Raids, environments glitch when camera is not at an optimal angle, etc.

However, the Pokemon's textures look absolutely fantastic. I love how shiny the Magnemite line looks. :3 I kinda wish the particle effects were better on Pokemon like Skeledirge and Chi-Yu, but that's ok.

Story (10/10)

I'm so glad the story ended up so much better in SV than in SwSh. I remember not being able to play through Shield after playing Sword because of how boring the story was. Not this time, though. SV continued to keep me engaged throughout the whole thing.

(SPOILER ALERT) I kinda wish they put more effort into making Scarlet and Violet different from each other regarding the AI Sada and Turo. I don't think it would have been too farfetched to have Sada a golem because of the existence of legendary titans.

Arven's story is fantastic, and although he is not a favorite character of mine, I've really warmed up to him after learning his goal in healing his Mabosstiff.

Gameplay (7/10)

I really thought Gym Leaders, Titans, and Team Star Battles would be scaled. That would have been really cool...

I was deeply saddened that they decided to remove the majority of the QoL features from PLA, and reverted to its traditional turn-based gameplay. It isn't bad by any means, but it makes the game slower than it should be.

Being able to sneak up on Pokemon and catching them off-guard was really fun, but I wish it can be applied to also catching them and not just battling them.

However, auto-battling is really cool and fun!! I love it! Being able to bring out my Pokemon and battle other wild Pokemon really sped things up.

Follower Pokemon are back!! Although I kinda wished they changed the speeds of some of the Pokemon when they're running/walking with you. Chien-Pao, I know you have a walking animation, please just relax and walk with me!!

RIP sparkling sounds when finding shiny Pokemon. I understand that it makes finding them more exciting, but I think it makes it harder for those who have difficulty telling colors apart to find them. I don't really get having to remove a feature that would otherwise make finding shiny Pokemon more accessible to others.

Characters (8/10)

Although no one really got me all "doki-doki" like Guzma has, the cast was absolutely fantastic this time around.

I love that almost all of the gym leaders have their gym challenges as something they do on the side. Their passion is something else that they're into and they bring it into their Pokemon battles, whether it's baking, creating art, streaming, cooking, etc.

The Elite Four is fantastic, too. It's great seeing another Gym Leader become another member of the Elite Four. :3

That said, I don't trust Geeta.

Overall Score (7.5/10)

Pretty good! It's a good start to an open-world Pokemon game, but kinda falls behind compared to other open-world games out there that have surpassed it by a long shot and were released earlier! I mean like. The franchise is nearing its 30th anniversary and it still doesn't have voice acting of any kind.

It's an obvious result of dev crunch, and I really hope they space out release dates if it means getting better games. However, I don't think this will happen anytime soon.

About the Players:

Pokémon Violet is being played by one-half of a dynamic duo (Taz/Trina of tazsaintsart) while Pokémon Sword is being played by the other half (Hope, aka gleaming_hope). Q: Is there a set posting schedule? A: Hell no. Making a schedule and deadlines is the quickest way to destroy my motivation to draw. The pressure turns into anxiety which turns into guilt which turns into shame and then nobody gets anything fun anymore.

Q: Sword's old! Why would you include it? A: Because it's new to Hope (OP's husbando) and he has his own quirky sense of humour worth sharing too. Besides, it means more story posts for you and I feel it's a great counterbalance to the story of Violet.

Q: Will you include the DLC? A: Eventually! Gotta' finish the main story first!

Q: Is it just me, or is the scaling/heights between characters a bit wonky? A: It's not you! The in-game player charas skewed my perception so it took me a while to figure out character heights that I could use consistently, so Alex might seem shorter than he should be in earlier posts, while Max was a bit bigger than he was meant to be.

Q: What's this 'Lato' thing I keep seeing mentioned? A: Lato is a fan region based on Poland, created by this blog's art assistant @diamondphantom~ In Alex's canon/backstory, he had a particularly lengthy school trip through the region four years prior to Paldea. It doesn't really affect the current story beyond showing that Alex has had a significant mood shift in the four years since the school trip.

Q: Will you draw '_____'? A: Maybe, maybe not! Aside from a set motivation for the boys, posts will just be whatever we feel like sharing.

Q: Can I suggest ideas, or submit my own work to this blog? A: The Ask and Submissions boxes are open for this very reason! I really hate this Mewtwo tera raid event. How on earth are you supposed to beat it???!!! I've been reading all the strategies online, but it's so powerful, and it keeps using Calm Mind after I've used Acid Spray on it!! And if I terastilize Mew into a Dark-type, which gives it an immunity to Psychic-type moves, it uses Aura Sphere!!!

Plus, it's getting lucky with your online team. I think I ended up with NPCs, I never have a full human team.
